A straight forward teacher...do your homework, get a good grade
Wonderful professor! He's the best college math professor I've had so far. To bad he doesn't teach calc every semester...
Great teacher. You will work hard in his class but you learn.
He really is a wonderful teacher! Do you homework!
Great teacher! Very helpful! He makes sure that you understand the material and he doesn't go too fast.
Great class. He is very encouraging.
Very energetic about teaching math and communicates well which is a plus . Very helpful before and after class or online communication. Best professor I've ever had in any subject.
I LOVE him as an instructor..he goes the extra mile.
The best!!!! Make sure you get good grades at the beginning, if you get an A before the final you don't have to take the final!!!
This guy is awesome. I learned a lot from his class. He always has time for students and puts a lot of effort into making sure you understand the material. Do your homework, ask questions, make an easy A.
Mac1147, Mac2311 He is the BEST teacher ever!!! Very helpfull, very clear!!
Math is not easy BUT this teacher will make you understand it and love it!! He will explain the subject very clearly without confusing you. Very patient and ready to answer all the questions you have for him. No tricky questions on the test!A++
BEST TEACHER i've ever had!! Comes to class prepared. NEVER slacks. Very organized in his teaching. You will learn a lot.
This guy is the best math professor period. Very clear and precise. Very cool guy.
Great teacher for calc. little hard to understand for some people because of his accent.
Very enjoyable teacher
I loved this professor. I recommend him to all of my friends.
very cool teacher.
I take him as much as I can for math classes and have recommended him to all my friends. Clear, organized, helpful, prepared, great teacher. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!
Great professor! Very helpful. Lots of homework but it pays off and prepares you for the tests. I recommend him!
not clear at all. went too fast.
course requires lots of study unless this type of math comes naturally. Mr AbuSawwa goes way too fast it can be very difficult to keep up.
He was a great teacher to me. He would take the time to make sure you understood before he went on. I would take him over if I had the chance. Great GUY
He is by far the best professor I have had. He is very willing to help you understand. Class was extremely fast paced and a lot of work. It is crucial to keep up with homewrok to pass, but it is worth come test time. I have recommended him to everyone!
He is a great instructor and I will recommend him to anyone who is willing to do the work. He isn't hard but when you take an 8 week PreCalc course you have to be willing to do the homework and study to make a good grade.
He explained everything clearly and was extremely willing to go over everything again if anyone had questions. He gave enough homework to make sure the processes were familar without over burdening you.
He's a really good teacher, and has lots of patience. His smile makes him adorable!

very cool teacher, he does move fast, but he will slow down if you ask him. excellent teacher...you seldomly find excellence like this
GREAT Professor. Going into Intermediate Algebra was a little scary. But I heard great things about his teaching and how helpful he was. I am glad I selected him. I strongly recommend him.
He was too fast, If you don't know, you'll get lost. Don't miss a class. However, he is a nice person.
I loved this guy hes the nicest guy ever, very helpful, very clear, very straightforward and an excellent teacher. He explains things very well, you just have to pay attention and do your work and youll ace this class. I recommend him highly.
i hate math and can fail any math class, this is the first time i actually got a B in a math class
Nice man He knows the subject The class, however goes too fast But the professor himself is good and a safe bet to take him
He goes very fast, but knows exactly what he is talking about. He will answer any questions asked to the best of his ability.
Awesome teacher.Always willing to help.Very fast class but its not his fault its just the way it is.Not an easy A YOU WILL HAVE TO WORK HARD.and you save a sem.
Awsome teacher, has an accent, but hes so funny at times. He is really into his subject and is very concered to have his students pass. All in all if you have to take a math course, Id recomend taking him. He's really not hard, this class is a dual course, so sure it might seem fast paced.
Difficult subject but he does an excellent job. Goes pretty fast but is willing to go back and recover anything. Tests are easier than homework. Goes above and beyond to help students succeed. Great Teacher!
VERY HELPFUL!!!!!!! He is a great teacher he is worth taking the class. He is very understanding and helped me alot. He goes a little fast but will slow down a knot if you ask. He's worth taking.
overall a good teacher.
Combined (trig/pre-calc) very fast paced! Requires good amount of outside class study. He gives best pract test reviews that are extremely helpful and sets you up for success. VERY possible to study reviews only and pass with A or high B if math inclined.
Very helpful and understanding. You have to do the homework if you want a good grade. Awesome teacher. Will be taking him from mac 1147 to cal 3.
The best teacher i ever had.Very very helpful.Work the assigned problems, test reviews get an A.He will answer all your questions. You will know what you will be asked on a test.If you run out of time during a test he will take you to his office so you can finish.I HAD HIM FOR 3 MATH COURSES 3 A'S
He is a very good teacher. Really enjoyed the way he organized the class, he gives you the best test reviews, answers all questions from homework, and gives graded homework to help you do your practicing. If you make a 90% or more you dont NOT have to take the final. drops lowest test grade.=)
He was great, very helpful. Got a B in his cal. 1 class.
Of all the math classes, Calc2 is Mr. Sawa's favorite to teach. Attend every class and do the practice problems, and you should have no problem.Partial fractions are no joke though.

Took for calc 2. only some homework due on test days. gives you optional work for practice. some points for attendance helps. no quizzes. You can drop the lowest test grade. great at teaching the concepts and goes over any problems from the optional hw you have questions for. give partial credit on tests. try and take him.
He makes what should be a difficult class way too easy. Assigns only the easy problems, maybe one out of a section will tickle your brain, his test questions are even simpiler. midway into the term, apparently are large chunk of the class was not "up to standard" so he dumbed it down. if a student isn't up to speed, shouldnt they drop or fail?
Awesome teacher.I had him from 1147 to mac 2312. No hw except for turn in on test days which count as quiz. As long as you do the hw completly you will get a 9 out of ten if not 10. Awesome teacher for a hard class

Abu-Sawwa is an excellent professor. He knows the material like the back of his hand so he puts it out clearly in easy to follow lectures. He also asks the class questions a lot during class to promote participation. I would have taken hime for Calc I and Calc II if the scheduling would have allowed.
I have taken him for four consecutive classes now and would not take any one else. Pre-cal and Trig was the hardest class because it is a combined class...He is very fair with points. Drops the lowest test scores.
He is a great teacher. Very nice & helpful. You just have to talk w/ him. His class books fast. I have him for college algebra too.
so droll. it is impossible to stay awake. our first test wasn't even on real calc. we spent 3 weeks on freakin limits!
He is a great individual, but I am having issues with the pace.
If ur not a math major, getting an "A" is difficult. With honest studying, anyone can get a "B". Can't pass this guy? Then u don't have what it takes or didn't do what it takes(u lazy bum). He's understanding when it comes to service members duty reqs. Let's you take a test early, late. Overall, I wouldn't go with anyone else but Abu-Sawwa.
I have taken him for College algebra, precalculus and calculus the best teacher ever.very very helpful. I have gotten A's an all his classes, and i was never a math nerd.Study and do your homeworks, he will help you achieve the grade you want. I highly recomend him.
A lot of people say he is really good,I've had better.I would just say he is good not really good. just do the homework study hard for the test and you will do fine.your grade will come from homework, attendance, and test,so try not to miss classes and do your homework (its good practice).since it is a math class you have to put some effort into it
does a good job explaining things, will help those who need it, (you need to be able to absorb knowledge quickly to take this class)
great teacher!! Is fare with people in the millitary
Pro. Abu-Sawwa is an AWESOME math teacher. I had him for pre-cal/trig. He does move quickly, but he is very clear, and is ALWAYS more than willing to give you extra help during his office hours!
A very Wise mathematician and willing to assist you with any problem.
A very good teacher.
Great Teacher! He cares about his students and is very fair. A lot of homework. So, be prepared to do some hard work. I got a D on my first test but I managed to get an A at the end. If you're having problem, don't hesitate to talk to him after class. I highly recommend him to anyone who is serious in learning about Math.
Teacher was an ok teacher, I do have to agree with some of the other peoples rating in that he was a little to fast. It was hard to follow him sometimes, and he occasionally would get frustrated with the students expecting us to understand things, that we didn't. But I learned alot, but it wasn't easy by any means, got an A in the class.
He gets frustrated when you ask questions. He moves way too fast. Have to be able to learn quickly, especially if most of the people in your class understand it and you don't. Very nice guy, however if you are a bit slower at math (even if you are sharp in college alg), do not take this guy. i took him because of this website. boo.
Very pleasant and helpfull.
Syllabis is outdated, says there is a quiz every week, we only had 5. He only gives you 10-15 minutes to take quizzes and it's 25% of your grade, so don't mess up because the quizzes can drop your average significantly. No extra credit offered unless you can attend his calculator seminar. picks favorites and docs them less on test. Very Fast paced
this class was very bright. infinitely positive.
Professor is not flexible for those who balance work/school. Professor has low tolerance for those who don't comprehend quickly, was rude at times, was not resourceful with what to expect on tests , and offered extra-credit only to those that could attend his workshop which fell during most of the students' work hours. Battled an A average
I liked this professor. Challenging class. He taught right out of the book. Some better study guides for the tetst would have been nice because it always seemed like there was some things different on there then I had expected. Judt do the homework until you understand the concept and you should be fine.
I got an A, didn't have to take the final by the skin of my teeth. He doesn't explain any algebra, at all! Moves fast. Tough accent. But altogether a good guy. If you want to learn Calc, try Kitto at Downtown!
gives you a study guide that basically tells you whats on the test. do it and you will do good.
Professor Abu Sawwa was extremely professional and intelligent! Nice guy too! Very helpful, answers all questions, and his accent throw off a little. Basically, the only thing I could complain about is the massive material, but that was clearly what you sign up for the class for. Advice: DO THE HOMEWORK HE ASSIGNS!!!
I hate to rip the guy because he is very passionate about teaching, and honestly , he is a very fair teacher. I myself have had difficulty comprehending the material he teaches because teaches straight from the book in typical math jargin. His tests are compiled of the more simple questions from the book. Be prepared to write notes really fast.
This is a challenging course. Set aside plenty of time for studying each concept and ALWAYS opt to do your homework before each class. Don't give up if you are having trouble. Ask lots of questions and show you care about the subject. You will do fine.
Good professor to build a foundation in calculus. I dont know why I like him so much, but I have always been "bad" at and hated math, and since I have started taking his classes my understanding is improving and I am enjoying what I'm learning. Just do the practice problems and review sheets.
Awesome teacher. Loved very minute of Calculus I so I am going onto Calculus II. Take him. He isn't very hard at all.
He's an AWESOME professor. He moves very...well...swiftly through the lessons, but is ALWAYS willing to help you if you have any questions or problems. You'll have to write notes really quickly, but you get used to it. His tests are based on the things you cover in class, and nothing you shouldn't know. I would reccommend him to everyone.
Marwan Abu-Sawwa is an excellent professor. He genuinely loves to teach and is extremely helpful. His classes are quickly paced, so quick note-taking is essential. As long as you take the necessary time to study and keep up with homework, the class should be both challenging and rewarding.
It was easy. But when I got to Calculus 2 he just went down hill. Well take himj yoursef and see.
Prof Abu-Sawwa is an excellent teacher. He takes time for help and explains things clearly.Do the homework and it will help.He goes over is and you learn from it.Attendance is not mandatory, but helps when ur a few points off of another grade.Summer term is fast paced so hold on to ur seat if u take trig/precal.
Not an easy class, but not crazy hard either. He drops one quiz and one test. Homework is not mandatory, but it is helpful. He is very helpful if you have questions after class. Take good notes because he goes fast. Everything is covered for the tests, so if you fail it's your own fault. I am taking his next course.
best math teacher in the world... not an easy class but very interesting... you will be cool with his accent as time goes by, i took last summer and got a A!
Had him for calc2. He is a challenging teacher, but when you leave the class you understand the subject. No homework collected, but the tests are hard, but still fun. He is helpful and truly knows the subject. Not an easy A, you must work, but math shouldn't have easy A's.
He is a good teacher, he dropped the lowest test and quiz grade, you get points on going to class, if you have any questions with hw or on your study guide he'll help!!This class was difficult so STUDY STUDY!!
I was anxious about the class, but he is an amazing teacher. He was very clear, and would help you extra if you asked for help. He always said what would be on tests and quizzes, and gave notice of quiz dates. Great class; as long as you show up and do your homework you'll do fine.
Good professor. Goes fast but is very thorough and knowledgeable.
He is a great professor! He explains the material very well! You must do the homework though! He is very dissapointed when no one asks questions in class. Final exam was difficult, but the class was ok.
great professor and very helpful. drops the lowest test and quiz! take him
Great Prof. You know exactly what to expect from exams and your overall grade. He moves kinda fast, but teaches the material well. A little harder in MAC1147, but that's only bc it is two courses in one and alot of material. But once you move on to calc I after MAC1147, it will be a breeze with him. Wouldn't take another Math prof. at FCCJ!
I don't understand why his reviews are so good. Yes, he is a great guy but as a professor, he fails to do the most important thing: make sure his students understand what they are learning. He goes too fast though the material and rather than truly explaining it, gives many examples that we don?t even have time to grasp, let along solve on our own
Ok I took this guy like five years ago a couple of times sothis reviw is long overdue. The problem with him is he moves to fast the reason he is getting positive reviews is because most of the students already know the stuff he is teaching, if ur like me and have no idea wats up with math find someone else he did go out of his way to help but to fa
Great Prof...you will learn!
Prof. Abu-Sawwa is a really nice guy, aside from that, if your math skills are not strong DO'T TAKE HIM! This particular class moves VERY fast (not his fault, it's two courses in one), but he doesn't EXPLAIN things very well, he gives countless examples but doesn't break things down. He has a LOVE of math but I wouldn't recommend/take him again.
Well. You have to like the subject to understand and able to do good. Fast paced, but keep in mind lots of amterials also. Very helpfull when asked. Many examples for student to understand the material. In math, you either get it or you do not and if not, you need to go back to the rules 3 hrs of study per 1 contact hour.
Honestly, a really good teacher. I hated math in highschool but he made me like it. I thought i was too dumb for math, but he showed me easy simple ways that really helped me. I did really good in his class and i would recommend him to anyone!
My favorite math teacher ever Will really help you understand if you're having trouble.
Professor Abu Sawwa really enjoys math. He is very fair. He gives partial credit on tests. Without being paid for it, he gave an additional class to explain the use of the calculator, and even gave extra credit to those who attended. His tests are not hard to pass, but it is a little tough to get an A. You really need to study.
Do your homework, ask questions, and you'll do well.
This professor trully loves teaching and is great at it. His class is not hard IF you study, tests are somewhat tough if you dont put enough effort. But you are in college and should have study habits so i dont see why making an A or a B in this class would be hard. Extremely helpfull by far the best math prof. i have taken! Would deff. recommend
I have always had a hard time with algebra, but I sware the teacher could teach anyone. He is fun entertaining and extremely helpful will do what ever you need him to do. home work is a must, do ALL the homework & quiz's online an there is no reason you can not get an A in his class.
AWESOME PROFESSOR! Has a great grading system, really helpful, great guy! Will take him again, and recommend him to anyone who wants to learn and pass. He cares about his students and wants you to do well. Best professor yet!!!
Prof. Abu Sawwa is clear and helpful. He gives a lot of examples in class and welcomes questions on homework. He reviews extensively before tests and grades fairly.
GREAT PROFESSOR! very fair, he wants all of his students to pass, and gives you every opportunity to do well on exams. He gives you a review, answers ANY question you have in class, responds quickly to emails, you must do your homework and stay on top of your online assignments. He makes math fun, I highly recommend him for upper level mathematics
If you're looking to take MAC1147, this is THE man to take. His classes are very structured, he reviews for tests thoroughly, has great grading policies, and really has a love for math; he knows his stuff, and wants all his students to pass. I'd take him again easily and recommend him to anyone--especially for upper level Math.
pretty easty for a 5 cred class. loved professor nice and very helpful. encourages questions. gave one take home test. gives test reviews and lets u ask questions on ANYTHING. gives good notes also. online hw and qzzs plus book hw. only online stuff is graded so do book stuff if u need extra help. in math practice makes perfect so do the HW!!!!!!!!
This teacher is very fair and pretty nice. The class is very tough and there is a lot of information to learn. You must attend the class everyday in order to keep up and also he adds your attendance as 5% of your final grade. Textbook barely ever used, all HW and quizzed on line. Do not wait until last minute for HW! Lowest quiz and test dropped :)
I really enjoyed having him for math. He gives you plenty of examples, goes over the homework with you, and gives test reviews. So long as you come to class, take notes, and do your homework his class should be a breeze!
coll algebra-failed the first time 5 years ago and had to take it again, this guy is really good, knows his stuff. use calculator on test and in class. homework not graded but pretty much need to do it. he drops one test and one quiz. Very willing to help. kinda funny--had no idea I would do so well in this class! take him!!
Awesome teacher. I would take again. Shows up on time and is available at his office hours. Would recomend. Do your sudy guide and you will be good.
teaches you TONS of awesome tricks on the calculator that make algebra a breeze. Always meets in office hours and was always available. WARNING: infamous for putting wrong answers on test reviews (study guides). not a problem for me because i never do math alone (tutors aka the wizards of the math lab, study groups) if you study alone be careful
The class is harder then it should be. He is hard to understand sometimes, he goes really fast and he gives you harder problems that you can't find examples for. He does give study guides and always goes over them. Tests are semi-tough. Attendance is mandatory. Gives hw, but not required for grade.
The material isn't easy, but he teaches it well. He moves through the subjects pretty fast, but a lot of material has to be covered. He is always willing to answer questions during class and office hours. Do homework (not graded) and study guides and you should do well. 5 exams, 4 quizzes, attendance, and a final. Highly recommended!
Great Math teacher, I had him at UNF. I hate math and I loved his class....
Super nice and approachable. He really loves math and has fun teaching. He does move quite quickly in his lectures, so be prepared to take condensed notes, or do extra self-study after class. The practice homework is a must, even though it's not required. Awesome professor!
BEWARE: He goes fast compared to other teachers. Sometimes his accent cant be hard to understand, but he always provides an example for each new thing taught. Attend class, take lots of notes, HW is optional but I definitely would do it. Just a few quizes, tests, and a final! Go to the Math Lab and make friends with the tutors, IT HELPS!
It's really BASED ON YOU and how well you do in math in general (I do well in math). He give the notes, & the quiz/test. The tests for me is not easy. Your grade will be based on the Tests and Quizzes. The assignments are optional so it's JUST like a high school math class w/ the assignments being optional. I'm a lazy student. so take my word.
Professor Abu-Sawwa is a very nice man, but his exams are really hard unless you are a math whiz or study your brains out. A word of advice: take easy classes if you are going to take a full load of classes with this one. This class will take up ALL OF YOUR TIME. Also if you are military this professor is the best at letting you make stuff up.
After getting used to his fast pace, the class really isnt that bad. However, if you're not a strong math student I wouldn't recommend him for you. Lots of HW. Hard review sheets. Fair tests. If you like math and work hard you'll get an A. Also, dont take with other demanding classes. Overall, loved him and happy I took the class.
Excellent professor who knows his material inside and out. Gives thorough lectures with tons of examples, will answer any question and work out any problem on the board at any time. HW is not graded but a MUST if you want to do well on quizzes and exams. What you put in is what you get out of it.
Let me start by saying he is super nice and helpful. But its a Very Fast Class (although I took summer) He teaches quickly. So it just depends on your learning style. If you like learning on your own then yes take him. He does more of a "example" teaching style. NO HW (at least turning in) there are only Quizzes, and Tests but he gives study guides.
Though HW is not graded, if u do not practice them, it will be hard to comprehend his lectures. I took summer class and was present all the time. He knows his stuff, and answers all your questions, there were 4 quizzes and 5 test. Do not take this class if you are taking another hard class. Study and Practice, Good Luck
Fantastic math professor. Professor Abu-Sawwa is incredibly helpful and will always stay after class to answer additional questions. His lectures move very quickly and it can be difficult to understand most of the material while seeing it for the first time in class. He gives plenty of optional homework and great review sheets for quizzes and test.
Prof. Abu-Sawwa is wonderful! One of the best math professors I've had. He truly understands the material and teaches it thoroughly, but at a very quick pace! Always helpful and willing to answer questions. Grades very quickly. Optional homework assignments. Quizzes given between exams. Provides excellent review sheets to help you prep for exams.
I took Pre-Calc and Trig together and it was not easy. But professor Abu-Sawwa does an "ok" job of explaining the subject in class, but he skips a lot of steps and goes very fast, I mean covering more than 2 sections a day. He's very, very helpful outside of class during his office hours though. All I can say is be prepared to take very good notes.
He was very good and clear at explaining the equations and whatnot. He was also very nice. In simpler words, 5/5 would take again.
Super nice guy. Super smart. Only tests-60%, Final-20%, Quizzes-15% and Attendance-5%. Don't have to do homework but it helps w/understanding of material. He moves pretty fast through material so take good notes...I had to review notes and book to help sometimes w/new concepts.Got a B+ and totally tanked last 2 tests.
Absolutely fantastic professor. Does make the class extremely easy to pass though, drops one quiz and one test so there is no reason not to do great.
I really like how this professor sticks to just book work and physical tests. Nothing is online, so there is no mymathlab-blah-blah-blah. Homework is optional. Really, all you have to do is show up, take the quizzes and tests, take the final, and get an A.
This guy is the best math teacher that I've ever had. I'm already enrolled in his Calculus class for next semester and will be taking every math class I can from him in the future. He explains the course material clearly and provides study guides for every test. I can't count the number of a-ha moments I had in his class. Take him!
He's a fairly straighforward teacher. He'll tell you where a theorem came from, then do a couple of examples. He drops a quiz, and allowed the final to replace the lowest test score, which was nice. He also gave 5% extra credit for tutoring in the math lab for 20 hours (which I was unable to do, or I would have gotten an A.)
I am in love with Marwan Abu Sawwa. He is by far the best, hottest teacher i have ever been blessed with. I plan on taking every class he teaches in the future. 3 3
Just plain fantastic. Awesome accent :)
This professor is an amazing math teacher. be sure to study and take notes, but he does drop your lowest test and quiz... which really helps out.
HE IS AMAZING!! I've failed Pre-Calculus 3 times and he has made all the concepts clear. I plan on taking Cal I, II, III with him. He tends to go fast because it's a 5 credit hour course. BUT if you ask him to slow down, he kindly slows down. Go to his office hours if you do understand. He gives a review sheet for exams with answers. HW is optional
Abu-Sawwa is my favorite professor at FSCJ! Also took him for MAC1147. He goes a bit fast, but is more than happy to help during class or office hours. He's very clear and enthusiastic about math, which makes the class enjoyable. Easy to take good notes, gives a study guide for every test, and drops the lowest test and quiz. Definitely take him!
Prof. Abu-Sawwa is a passionate mathematics professor. He gives very detailed lectures and goes over a lot of information. Don't miss class! Drops your lowest quiz and test. He will also replace your lowest test with your final if you score over 80% on the final exam. He will go above and beyond to help if you're putting in the work.
Currently taking him for Pre-Cal AlgebraTrig. He's a great teacher and if I could take him for Calc, I would. He's very very helpful, though he moves a little fast. Which is to be expected because this is a two subject course. Grades solely based on testquizzes but is a pretty lenient grader when it comes to them. Will take his time if needed.
MAC2312 is a hard class and Professor Abu Sawwa is an incredible professor. I had retaken MAC2311 twice so by no means am I good at math. He is capable of explaining everything very well (although he does go a bit fast), gives good notes and he is more than willing to help you if you put in the work. His reviews and handouts are extremely helpful.
Abu-Sawwa is an incredible professor. I loved participating in his class. I haven't always been an expert in math, and I was skeptical about taking a combo class over the summer, but I got an A because I earned it. Abu-Sawwa helped me get there, and I don't think I would have done as good with another professor.
Nice guy! I took him for combination PreCalc/Trig class so things went very quickly but he does a good job teaching the material. Has quizzes pretty frequently but the problems are basic and easy to ace if you understand the concepts. Every test had 9 points of extra credit and were pretty easy, but study! DO NOT SKIP HOMEWORK!
Abu-Sawwa is awesome! He makes calculus easier to understand. He's very helpful and willing to break it down further in office hours. Drops lowest test and quiz and gives extra credit on test. Its extremely fair! Im horrible at math and I was able to work towards an A!
Ask questions and you'll be fine. Very helpful and gives partial credit . Tries to get students to pass by engaging them. Reviews before each quiz and test. If you don't do well it's not his fault. He does explain things a little fast, just ask him to slow down and ask ask ask questions.
I'm learning disabled and have a very difficult time learning from lectures. I watched youtube "Professor Leonard (enter name of chapter)" before the class and also did the HW before the chapter was taught in class which resulted in an A. No required HW, however you will have 2 do it for an A. He's funny and teaches with passion but goes way 2 fast
I went into this class pretty optimistically, but after the first week, I quickly realized I'd be happy with a C. Math has never been my strong suit but I'm glad I had this professor when I took this course. Quizzes are super easy, tests are hard af to me. He drops lowest quiz and test grade at the end (thank god). Final exam was the easiest test.
A very good math teacher, math is hard, but he can help you understand it. A few quizzes and just 4 tests; drops the lowest grade from both criteria. Final test is multiple choice and longer, but get an 80% and he'll drop another test. HW not required but you better try it for an A; if you're pretty good at math(I mean for real) this class is easy.
This was the first math class I had taken in over six years so I was little apprehensive, but Professor Abu Sawwa is outstanding. If you struggle to understand a concept from his initial teaching, he will work with you until it begins to make sense. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. I did all my homework, didn't study at all for any tests, and had averaged a 95.
great teacher, tests are usually multiple choice, attendance counts for a grade, five tests total, including the final, five quizzes. lowest quiz grade and one test grade get dropped by test 4 if it's higher than those. homework is optional, not for a grade. I didn't do any of the homework and I got a C. Definitely use the study guides. show up!
If you do homework & show up to lectures you are sure to get an A! He uses questions from homework on the test. Very caring professor he can tell if you're working hard. Also gives partial credit if you work out problems correctly on the test. I really enjoyed taking his class because of his generosity.
For Calc, you can't get a better professor. HW is optional (but recommended). 4 tests, and 1 final. 4 quizzes. Drops lowest quiz and test. Gives 3 good examples from each section. Work hard and you will pass. Highly recommended!
One of the best math teachers I have ever had. He knows his stuff and helps you learn as well. He is very blunt, straight to the point. Homework is optional but important if you want to understand the material. Graded on 4 test, 4 or 5 quizzes and one Final. If you study you should be fine.
Professor Abu-Sawwa is an amazing mathematics professor. He gives you every chance to succeed, even if you are not good at math. As long as you do the homework and the study guides, you should do well in the course.
Professor Abu Sawwa amazing! It was a bit overwhelming at first being a 5 credit course, but manageable if you do the work. His lectures can be fast but he teaches in a clear manner that is easy to follow. He loves math and it shows. If you have to take Mac1147 or higher take this class! Don't take this class if you don't do your homework.
If you aren't math smart I don't recommend. He doesn't really teach and skips steps and goes really fast. Gets kinda fussy if you ask questions "it's so simple why don't you get it?" Expect to teach yourself the material. Notes aren't helpful. Some extra credit and drops lowest quiz and test. Homework is optional but I recommend to learn concepts.
Professor Abu Sawwa is a great professor. After taking his courses I feel more confident about my math ability. His lectures are great, and he is very helpful during his office hours if you have any questions regarding the chapter. Homework is optional, but necessary. I highly recommend him to anyone who really wants to learn Calculus.
Mr. Sawwa will expect you to know your college algebra in the beginning, as he is pretty fast covering the first few sections. After that, he does a great job in teaching you the new materials. If you put in the effort, he will work with you. I highly recommend him. I received an A even after being out of math for 8 years!
Professor Abu-Sawwa is a fantastic professor I highly recommend this professor to anyone who needs a good foundation in calculus. However he does expect you to know algebra, trig, and precalc so if you do not have a good foundation in those courses you might struggle at first. However he is very helpful in any questions that you might have.
4 tests and bunch of quizzes he drops lowest grade from both hw not graded but some questions on test. don't skip a test or you will get a harder version. he does teach and a great man. don't skip attendance for points. practice ur math to get A . if u get 80 or up o final, it will replace ur lowest grade for test or quiz other than dropped
Prof Abu-Sawwa is great! He is so kind and helpful. Takes attendance for a small grade. Tests are medium difficulty, but the questions are VERY similar to the homework and review assignments. He gives regular quizzes which help you keep up with the class. Go to class, and do the homework/reviews (even though theyre not graded) and you will be fine!
Marwan Abu-Sawwa taught me one of the most important things I have learned in my lifetime. That specific piece of information I am referring to? The Condercet method! For years the ancient Greeks toiled over finding a fair way to elect a ruler, but it was not until Marwan-Abu-Sawwa discovered the Condercet method, which must satisfy the CWC rule.
This will be your hardest class for the semester. I am not a math person but Marwan is an understanding professor and will answer your questions. Don't be afraid to ask questions in class or during his office hours. There is homework after every lecture and his tests are similar to the homework, test reviews and quizzes.
1. Would stop lectures to answer your question 2. Easy for me (altho i already took calc in HS) 3. No HW checked 4. I do notice he does go a bit fast and if hadn't learned calc before, I would be confused. Don't worry about asking questions 5. Funny and responds to emails if you had Qs a day before the test- he does the problem and sends you a pic
Perhaps my favorite prof so far. That being said this was also the hardest class Ive ever taken. Cheap txtbook, relaxed lectures, would go over material again in case it is not clear. BUT be ready for the workload. Do the hw, go to Math Lab, and know the test reviewers like the back of your hand. Not an easy A, but it is likely with enough effort
Perfect professor ever!
GREAT prof. Take his class and calculus will be interesting. If I weren't moving to a univ I'd have taken him until Calc 3.
He is a very good professor. He would stop a lecture to answer students' questions. He explains everything as clear as possible. This class is very challenging. Be ready for a lot of tests and quizzes. Homework is not required, though. Mr. Abu Sawwa is great, overall.
This is the Professor to take for any math class. He explains things well through examples. If you take good notes, do the homework & ask questions youll do great. He wants to answer questions & make sure you understand. His test questions are more straight forward than the homework problems. Hes a brilliant professor.
Really makes calculus easier to understand. Also provides study guides and plenty of time for review before tests. He gives a lot of homework but it's optional and just to help reinforce the ideas from the lectures. Lastly, he drops and replaces lowest grades.
He wants to see you do well! It's by no means an easy A. It's one of the harder classes you'll take, it's just a lot of knowledge to retain, & memorizing a ton of formulas. You definitely want a study buddy, go to math lab, do the HW, and do test reviews. HW helps you a lot. DO NOT MISS 1 CLASS! It's hard to keep up just by missing one lecture.
very good professor, a little fast paced but that's because of the material that he needs to cover.
Amazing teacher. He goes fast but I think it just makes the class go by faster. Attendance is part of your grade so I wouldn't miss. He doesn't check homework and I never did it but he gives great review before every test and quizzes to help you out so learning isn't hard. Def would recommend him for this hard class.
His class is difficult and his lectures are very fast. However, he will answer any questions you have. Better yet, he drops your lowest grade in the class. But whatever you do, do NOT skip class.
Abu Sawwa is not a bad guy. However he teachs very fast & doesnt explain things well. He also made alot of mistakes on the study guides & the online program Achieve takes points away every time you get the answer wrong & doesnt give you a chance to retry. Ive token other math classes & never had any issues with understanding the matrial.
Professer Sawwa is a great professor. His lectures are fast, but he allows time for you to ask questions and goes over any problems you may have trouble with so you can understand. You MUST come to class and study but if you do those things and ask questions you will come out with a great understanding of necessary trig and precal.
He has a rather thick accent so sometimes it is hard to understand
One of my favorite professors of all time!!
Do Not Recommend.
Don't take him, all he grades is tests and quizzes which are time limited with little time given and a lot of questions, showing all work is needed for tests and quizzes. He goes way too fast and doesn't explain things well, all he does is read form a power point and never checks the chat section while lecturing.
Useless. Does not show example problems in any detail. Will lecture and then qiuz you in same day. Absolutely DO NOT take this. You will struggle no matter how good at math you are. HARD PASS on Marwan Abu-Sawwa
I wish it was face-to-face. The material and test time limit WILL kill you, but he is awesome enough to answer any question without having to make you feel stupid. He moves fast, but if you're unable to keep up, he records every lecture so you can re-watch them later. Responds to emails FAST, so he's there to help. Hard class, but amazing teacher.
Graded on Tests & quizzes( no extra credit). When asked how many questions are on the Test/Quiz he says 20 and the test includes parts for every question which makes the 20 questions 30, gives you 45 minutes to complete. Never checks the chat and talks for 2 hours straight without stopping, and reads from a PowerPoint without showing examples.
He is a very knowledgeable professor but doesn't give very detailed feedback when you ask questions. Not alot of homework and he drops the lowest test/quiz grades. Warning! Final Exam was WAY harder than the practice tests were!
If youre struggling, he will write out the instructions to show you every step taken to get to the solution the correct/fastest way (responds QUICK). In lectures, he answers everyone's questions and explains topics perfectly/thoroughly. He also provides a lot of non-graded review material to make sure you understand. 100% taking him again for CAL2.
Worst professor ever. He has a very heavy accent so it is hard to understand what he is saying. He makes mistakes on study guides. It is very confusing. The homework does not prepare you for the test. Skip class and you wont pass.
You definitely have to show up to class, if you don't it is really hard to keep up with the material. It's nice to have friends to be able to work with them, which makes the class a lot easier. He is really nice, helps you understand the material, and always answers questions thoroughly.
There are four tests and a final. There is also one HW for each section and a quiz a week before each test. He has a review day between learning new material and the test for it. He gives extensive study guides and recommended practice problems for you to do. If you study well, you should do very well; if you fall behind on learning, you will fail.
I enjoyed his class. He was amazing! I took Calculus I many years ago and continued Calculus II with no idea what I was doing. He took his time and explained very carefully. On top of that, he really cared about his students; he never bothered being asked so many questions.
Professor Abu-Sawwa was definitely a great Professor. I used RateMyProfessor to find him. I took his class in the fall of 2021 my last semester and although it was a five credit math class and I got a C+ I feel like had I applied myself more I would have easily had the A I wanted. Anyways, I am taking him in the spring for Calc 1 and I am ready!
He did not like explaining things to students. He made me feel stupid for asking certain questions and whenever I missed a class because I had COVID he told me I should've caught up on my own. He does drop a quiz and a test but he does not teach well. He goes through the sections really fast and just expects you to know things.
the goat! makes calculus easy just show up to his lectures and its as simple as that. drops 2 lowest hw, 1 lowest quiz, and 1 lowest test score so really helps
Took for cal 1 and cal 2 and he is why I aced both! really good teacher. drops 2 lowest hw, 1 lowest quiz, and 1 lowest test score so really helps
Grade is my fault, I didn't put in enough effort. But he is great at teaching! Plan to take him for Calc 1. Clear homework, gives test reviews for extra credit sometimes. Drops lowest 2 hw, 1 lowest quiz, and 1 lowest test!
He is such a great professor. No homework, although there are optional example problems in the syllabus. Four quizzes and four tests each semester plus a final. Work is difficult but he explains everything in detail. Needs a graphing calculator. Save money and don't buy the book. Instead, complete and study the study guides and write the notes.
Lectures are very in depth. The class is graded on quizzes and tests and he drops the lowest score on both. Great teacher!
I took two of the math courses offered by Prof. Sawwa. I aced both and really felt like I understood the material and concepts. He is a very caring professor who wants each of his students to succeed. Best calc and diffy q professor at FSCJ.
Took him for Calc I & II, and D.E. Extremely good professor. All lectures were easy to follow and concise. Drops lowest test, quiz, and two homeworks. What more can you ask for?
Great professor to learn with.
great professor to learn with.
Prof. Abu-Sawwa is fantastic. I took Precalc online and hated every minute of it. I've got one quiz and one test left in Calc 1 with him and have already signed up for Calc 2. I have to take Calc 3 and Diff EQ as well and 10000% will be taking those classes with him. He's very energetic and never monotonous. He drops lowest test and quiz too!
Study guides for the tests are really helpful, but he sometimes gives incorrect answers on the study guides which is very frustrating. He drops one test and one quiz. Homework questions did not seem to be consistent with questions on the test.
This professor was not for me. I did not like his teaching style and had to teach myself. After sitting in his class for 2 hours, I was more confused and frustrated than before. I aced every test and homework but flunked the final-he decided to make it incredibly confusing and different. This is my only B ever! He drops the lowest test and quiz.
Professor Abu Sawwa was great, but his teaching style wasn't for me. His teaching is very fast-paced, and the problems he solves in class somewhat help with the homework, but not always. He does drop the lowest quiz and test grades, which helps a lot!
Professor Abu Sawwa is a caring teacher who wants students to pass. Most people in the classes I took with him (Calc 2 and Differential Equations) passed with an A. Dropping the lowest quiz and test should qualify him for sainthood. Formula sheets help a lot as well. 10/10 wish he could teach me all high level maths.
First time taking Prof. Marwan Abu Sawwa. He seems like a reasonable person dropping 1 (Quiz and Test) but his grading was only attendance, quiz and test. Homework were only for practice, I withdrew because I wasn't sure about taking him so I opt for a different professor
If you want to know why the U.S.A ranks 26th in Math.. take this course..
Great Professor, Heres what you need to know. 4 tests and The lowest one is dropped. If you take the final it will replace your lowest exam grade. In-class quizzes which are fairly easy, this is coming from someone who doesn't do that well in math. Homework is only around 8 questions which is small. Responds to emails very fast. AMAZING lectures!!!
Professor Abu Sawwa's class is fast-paced, but his teaching style works well if you engage with it. The free textbook is useful, and attending lectures is a must. For study prep, I found unstuck study and ChatGPT quite helpful alongside the usual resources. Overall, a rewarding class if you're willing to put in the work.
If you want to fail this class, take him. I wouldn't be writing this if I hadn't studied hard and still gotten a C-. He explains poorly, makes mistakes, and makes you feel stupid for asking questions. The practice tests don't match the real ones, and students get different versions. It's unfair.
This professor teaches very fast. The exams and practice questions are not the same, and only about five questions on the test might match what you practiced. During lectures, he only gives one example for each type of question. During tests, he hovers over me, which makes me uncomfortable and unable to focus. I wouldn't recommend taking this class
He was very good at what he does, he takes the first couple minutes of class dedicated to go over the homework, and takes his time going over new subjects and will go over problems as many times as needed for you to understand.
Amazing lectures. I think people forget we are not in highschool anymore and we do not see our teachers every single day of the week. For only meeting twice a week, his lectures fully covers all the material you need to know. Great teaching style and you can tell he has such a passion for math, its so inspiring. Take him if you are READY to LEARN!!
This class is NOT structured well. Homework, textbook and lecures never line up. I could never figure out what to write in my notes. Half the time he would spend to prove the reason behind the method for solving the problem, and then I could never tell when he was solving the problem and what to memorize for the tests.
He lectures too fast, gives extremely little homework, disables all of the practice work, and only lets you do the quizes during the weekend when the campus is closed. He setup the practice tests as real tests so that I couldn't get any feedback on what I was doing. He will never do anything he promises to do, even when he says he will every week.
Abu Sawwa is an AMAZING Calculus II professor. His lectures are quick, he does not waste your time. His Tests are not difficult, and he grades generously. His class was decently difficult at the beginning, but after the first unit was not hard. Generous on HW due dates, gives you papers for tests. He should give more HW though. Would take again!
One of the most caring professors I've ever had. Really grades generously and wants you to do well. Best to prepare questions before class because he will answer all of them as long as you bring them! That will definitely be most helpful.
Great professor for this subject. He explains the concepts very well. His in-person classes are right next to the math tutoring section. If you get help from there and genuinely try you will get an easy A in his classes. He drops your lowest test score and some homeworks. If your late just talk to him and he will open it back up
Don't pay any attention to the negative reviews. Professor Abu Sawwa is one of the best. He is lecture heavy and his attendance is mandatory, but if you take the time to understand the homework, without using AI for a quick solve, then you will be fine. Calculus II can be challenging, but you won't find a better professor for the class.
ItookCalc 2+DiffEq withhim.Ifyoutakehisclass, youshouldwatchvideosonYoutubeorreadthematerial before coming to class. Most of his lectures are kind of useless unless you prep first. He will go quite fast and skip basic step. Ofc, when we're all in Calc 2 and DE, he expects us to be good at algebra. If you feel unclear at sth, ask him immediately.
Awesome professor who is very passionate and invested in his students' success. His lectures are very fast-paced and it is easy to get lost, but he is always willing to go back over a concept until you understand it. One of the most helpful professors I've had. If you're willing to put in the work he is willing to help you however he can.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. He does an amazing job at breaking down new concepts in ways that build off what he's already taught and are very easy to understand. I'm done with math now, but if I had to take another math class I would 100% try to get him as a professor again.
Gave a clear format of what to do. Taught everything needed to know to prepare for tests. For tests and final exam, review/skim notes, do practice tests on Pearson if you want, but especially do the reviews he gives you to prepare for each test. That will help you so much! Would recommend to anyone.
