Very hard professor!! Tests are ridiculously hard and he will not grade on a curve.

One of the best teachers I've ever had. Thankfully, he decides to teach at Truman. If you have the chance to take him, don't pass it up. His extensive background makes subjects even more interesting.

Listen,hands down this is the best teacher I have every had. No, he is not easy, but if you come to class and take notes you will be just fine. He does not use a text book at all so, if you are not in class to take notes you miss out. This teacher made me want to take more Bio classes and I might even change my majior.

Energetic, passionate and serious, but he loves to make you laugh. Dr. Amarin truly loves what he does and will prove it to you on a daily basis. His class is not easy but he makes you want to do well. If the class is having an "off" day you might get to witness one of his famous rants of frustration and anger. Highly recommend.

Don't buy the textbook; you won't need it. Take detailed notes. Seriously, write down every word he says because it may be on the test. His tests varies because your class is allowed to vote which kind of test you can take. Multiple choice was our class, and it contained detailed questions. STUDY. He made biology fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Dr. Amarin is truly a devoted professor, he is so experienced in this subject!! Best of all, he KNOWS HOW TO TEACH.If you take all the notes and study after class you will have it really easy on the test day!! He really loves what he does and knowS how to transmit it. I've graduated from Truman and moved on to UIC, and I can tell you Dr Amarin is the greatest professor I've had to date. He will make this long class entertaining. SUPER funny guy who truly cares about his students. You don't need a book, just take good notes and you'll be fine.

He's great if you're majoring in Bio..If not his class is difficult. While he is amusing and keeps you on the edge of your seat, he assumes everyone comes from a science background. He often comes off arrogant but is willing to help. His tests are VERY difficult, and there are quite a few writing assignments for a science class.

Gives you everything to need to earn an A in class. He's irreverent and politically incorrect, but an amazing teacher. He may come off sarcastic & snarky in class, but it's a show. If you see him privately, he will do everything he can to help you understand. As aggravated as he claims students make him, you can tell he really enjoys teaching.

I knew Bio was going to be hard, and I know what I was expecting, but the test were HARD for people who do not study! Trust me, if you study and put effor in the class, you will pass it. Professor Amarin is by far one of the best teachers the city colleges has to offer. His qualifications by far surpass anyone else in the bio dept. He is very engaging, enthusaistic and incredibly easy to listen to. Honestly, Dr. Amarin is one of the BEST professors I have ever taken at Truman. Yes, the class is hard and he can be intimidating, but come on folks, it's college. What do you expect? I absolutely LOVE this professor. He does have a bit of a temper sometimes, but that was due to students not applying themselves in this class. Some were even asleep! Really? I wished that I could take another class of his, but sadly I do not require Microbiology. How lucky to have such an accomplished professor at Truman.

One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. With that being said, he was truly a great professor. IF you were willing to put in extra time and effort outside of class, he was willing to help you in any way he could. I don't think he picked favorites. He did however tend to gravitate to the students who really put in the effort.

He was AWESOME. He made micro really interesting with tons of stories and jokes that kept me interested the whole period. He gets really animated and into the material which actually helps me remember. Take good notes. He never uses the book but the gets are 100% multiple choice and based purely on class notes.

If having a good foundation in Biology is important to you, take this course. You will work & tests are difficult. Make sure you take great notes, 100% attend & don't ever get behind. Keep in mind: he is outspoken & unconventionally challenging (publicly) to students. It is worth it, but know ahead of time. He is a one of the best Professors.

Excellent professor! This class is perfect for those who are going into the sciences and need to build a solid foundation. Very challenging, but he is available during office hours and responds to emails in a timely manner to answer any questions. If you participate and are always present, he will help you out when you need it.

Funny guy. Wants everyone to learn and pass. No extra credit but will work with you. Must take notes andor come to class. Very knowledgable and will break down anything or tell you fun facts that might be on the tests (hint hint). Do the homework helps a lot for good grade. Very approachable. Study for his lectures and tests. Labs were easy.

Very amusing professor, though can be slightly condescending at times. Tests are based entirely on the lectures, so taking great notes is a must. They're also tricky, so grasping the concepts is necessary to get an A. Two 8-page papers were assigned. Minimal participation goes a long way. Tip: Write down every word he says, and study it.

He always made lectures entertaining (super important for an almost 2 hour class), had endless patience, offered a plethora of visual and verbal examples, and was an all-around joy to learn from. 10/10 highly recommend!

You will learn a LOT if you take good notes and study. Doing the homework well and participating in class will net you a higher grade than just doing well on exams. Plenty of opportunities offered to raise your grade throughout the semester if you struggle at any point. His sense of humor is GREAT, make sure to bring yours to class.

This review is long overdue. I took Microbiology with prof Amarin in 2016 and he is the best professor ever. His class was interesting and exams were not hard at all. While he is a tough grader and there is no extra credit, he will give you all the info you need for your exam. There are no surprises and really, no reason not to pass.

My professor was so inspirational that I almost shifted gears to embrace medical studies. That possibility is not yet completely ruled out; because I will take the BIOLOGY classes after completing the four-year degree.

Homework assignments are few, but long. He KNOWS his stuff. Jokes with class, yells and gets excited, holds you to high standard. Goes over tests immediately after. He wants you to pass.

Professor Amarin is a real professional. I'm not a science person, but he is so good at what he's doing that I actually enjoyed Biology. The class was challenging, but everyone had so much fun!

This was my favorite class I have ever taken, and I'm TERRIBLE at anything science. He truly cares about his students and the material he is teaching. It is very lecture heavy, so if you miss even 2 classes, you will fall very far behind. And make sure to write down EVERYTHING he says/writes down. Anything and everything will be on the tests.

Prof. M. is truly knowledgeable and cares for students who participate. Like others mentioned taking thorough notes is key. His exams require you to memorize your notes VERY thoroughly. Half way through the semester around 10 student dropped due to poor exam grades but really if you take the time to really study your notes you will be successful.

Hands down the best professor I have ever had. This is my 2nd time taking Bio 114 as my first instructor wasn't the best. This time around was so much different. Dr. Amarin explains things so well that you can easily grasp all material covered. If you go over ALL your notes thoroughly (it's a very lecture heavy) and pay attention, you'll do fine!

He's very knowledgeable about the subject. You need to be good at notetaking to pass the class and his exams. He makes sure that the exams only cover what he went over in class and if you go over your notes you should be fun. He's really funny but he won't take bs from his students. Respect him and he'll respect you.

I took Dr. Amarin for MedTerm. His way of explaining material is clear and detailed. You will retain information. 2 semesters later and the material he taught me in 1 short summer class was revisited in Bio107, Bio121, Bio226(all different professors), making those classes seem as though they were review. He was a very tough grader, you have to study rigorously and you cannot be afraid to participate. Professor Amarin is a fake tough guy. He puts on a very tough and strict demeanor but deep down he cares and loves his students. He doesnt want to fail anyone and tries his best to make sure everyone succeeds as long as effort is shown.

Professor Marwan made microbiology very interesting and hes very funny. His personality makes you want to come to class and learn. One of my favorite professors I've encuntered so far. Very lecture heavy class with few assignments so your grades rely heavily on how well you do on exams. The exams can be tricky but if you study and pay attention you'll do fine. Also, he's quite the character (in a good way) and is quite funny.

It's very clear that he cares a lot about the material and his students. He doesn't want to fail anyone, but he will make you work for your grade. Overall a very tough class, so don't take him if you're trying to coast to an easy passing grade, but one of the best instructors I've had. He's very funny and keeps you engaged during his lectures.

I took this class, and struggled up until the middle of the semester. The class was hard, but if you really try and you participate, itll be a piece of cake. His grading criteria isnt very clear and he is a tough grader. His lectures are easy to understand and I recommend visiting his office hours if something is unclear.

The only reason I got a high C is because I was taking another science course and didn't give micro my full attention. IT'S A LOT OF MATERIAL FOR ONLY 4 MONTHS. Your grade will come from tests, labs, and Hwrks. Over all he's great!

This professor is amazing ! Hes super energetic and likes to make jokes. Yes he is strict and has high expectations but as long as you do the work and understand hes amazing ! He was respectful towards me and other students. When Id see him in the hallway hed always say hi.

He was the best professor that I ever had. Not only does he go over the exam, but he will take time during lecture to go over any questions in particular to lab exam and lecture exam. He also make sure that you understand the material. Exams are straight forward (Listen to his lecture!!!!) I will definitely take him again.

Professor Marwan is fun, intelligent and caring. He makes sure to explain every topic in details and that makes participation in class very key. If you do not listen carefully, you might miss an exam question. He also likes to know his students so sometimes he will call you out just to make sure you are paying attention.

Here's how the class went: We have one mandatory zoom meeting in the week, and the second is watching recorded lectures. Professor Amarin was very helpful, very funny, and relaxed for the most part. Participation is key, but it's very easy when you watch the recorded lectures. If he likes your class or you show you care, he will help and pass you.

Dr. Amarin is an incredible professor. He wants to make sure that each student understands the material and does the utmost in class. The material is not easy, but Dr. Amarin's recordings, given material, study guides and the student's effort give the highest outcome in this class. I do highly recommend him!
