she speaks so soft, that is hardly hear, but she always blame the air conditioner.if you want to be a teacher, please be sure students hear you okay!!she is hard, her essays are not easy. the reason i don't like is her attitude to students, if students her question, she becomes annoy, and said why don't you listen
helpful teacher. Explain very clearly. essays are easy relative to other teacher...take her
Her class is very easy to get A. She is nice and always helps student. Those people who said her class is hard is just they dont pay attention in class. Take her class and can get A for sure
Bonillia is challenging but not impossible. The AC is a problem but she ignores it and that hampers the students ability. She is scattered and not organized. Her Sylibus will change each day. She assigns a lot of feminist writings and sadly never addresses this from a male POV. Not terrible but not great. Staying afloat means EXTREME FOCUS!
an individual presentation for at least 5 mins, papers & essays all over the quarter, 40-50 pages of reading assignments every class meeting, in-class essays, research paper for at least 7 pages, and one novel. A class of challenge. Don't take her if you r an english learner, cuz there will b a lot of discussion abt social events.
Ms. Bonilla did not use feminist writers only; the women writers were FirstAmend authors! She helped me a lot and I speak another language. Students who copy have problems becuse they must turn in prep. work.
My writing improved. She is the best English instructor I ever had. Take her class!
do not take her class ~~
Great class! I loved the reading materials and improved my writing skills. Take this class!
Very rigorious essay grading. Make sure to take time on essays! She was very hard on my final and brought my grade down from a B to a C. =( But she's nice.
Great class

great helpful teacher, was hard in beg of year but she had a good reason why...very Intelegant lady. highly recomanded.
dont ever take her class she is so disorganised and a bad grader!!!!please dont take her she is one of the mean person i have ever seen.
OK heres the scoop.Bonilla is a good teacher,no doubt. You just have to be prepared to step up your game homeboys/gals.Listen to what she wants you to do,then,do it and double check for grammatical errors, flaws in argumentation and structure. The class isnt "hella" easy and papers will take quite a while to get 'A' right. But its worth it.A=possible
she is really really hard, can say she is a spiritcrusher.
she's pretty strict on attendance, great at summarizing and writing (she'll tell you all about that), flexible curriculum, listens to students comments, a mildly lenient grader. she gives tons of comments so you'll improve on your writing a lot if you want to.
pls for heaven sake do not take her..... very hard grader and she is not organized at all. very messy teacher.
Great teacher. Not for the slacker student. If you want to learn how to write a good essay take her; if you are interested in just passing take another teacher. I enjoyed the class greatly.
Please dont take her, i had to drop in the middle of the quarter she is really hard as hell.
you gotta work hard to get that grade in this class..even more, you have to go talk to her to really know what she wants....but good teacher who tries to actually teach you to write.
I have to admit that her class is hard BUT she is VERY HELPFUL and VERY CLEAR. Her handouts are very helpful and very easy to follow. Because of Ms. Bonilla, my essays were outstanding and have full of great ideas. IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN ENGLISH, THEN I 100% RECOMMEND TAKING HER CLASS ALONG WITH MR. PICHON :)
She treats her students like we are idiots. Doesn't seem to know what she's doing. But takes it out on students. Shes old but seems like new at teaching. AWFUL!!!
Mrs. Bonilla is a very wonderful yet hard teacher. Homework is a must but all the skills that she has taught really did help me in EWRT1a.
She started oy very hard. I wont lie though she taught me how toright a perfect essay. She is very strict, so I only recommend you take her if you up to the challenge. Oh yeah, she does make you feel like a bunch of idiots and talks about her accomplishments all the time.
Ms. Bonilla worked with every student to help them to write better. She is very easy to talk to and very supportive of her students. Ewrt1A was easy because of her class.
This professor cares and helps and goes out of her way to help students. I had her for 100b and 2 and I feel prepared for UC. You will not be disappointed. She isn't hard because she helps. I RECOMMEND her to EVERYONE who wants to SUCCEED. She has a good sense of humor too.
I took her Ewrt100B and she's very nice and helpful! She is preparing you to do great in 1A and so on.
If you want someone to stop beating around the bush and show you how to write a good essay, TAKE THIS CLASS. The class isn't easy, but Ms. Bonilla is one of the kindest and most caring teachers you'll find and she'll give you as much help as you ask for. If you want to learn, take this class.
Please dónt take her !!!
She is very weird. Sometimes she will be looking in your direction for no reason, talking as if she is talking directly to you and then when you act surprised, she is like "oh no im not talking to you!" She can be very rude, but sometimes she doesn't mean it. I think she should try to connect with the class more!
Nice lady. Too nice. She pushes out due dates to help the slackers, but adds requirements that hurt those who finish on time. She poorly communicates progress when requested. She gives instructions in metaphor and is unclear. Do not take her literally. She is a very nurturing teacher and probably good for 100A or B. Do not take her for 1A or 1B.
Maryalice ROCKS! im totally taking her ERWT2 class in the spring. very helpful, very specific on what is expected, but flexible on what students can do. great discussions, really drives students.
take her class if you wanna challenge urself!
very rude, not helpful
I took her class in spring quarter and she is such a cool teacher who could teach you many skills to improve your writing. if u wanna learn how to write take her for pass no pass class. she is hard though.
she was cool, easygoing.
Great Professor. One who truely knows how to "TEACH" the students to write great essays that make sense.
Mrs. Bonilla is a wonderful teacher. She's dedicated toward helping her students (as long as they want it). Although she's tough, if you wanna learn how to write well, she's who you gotta take. And ask her for help because she'll be more than willing to give it.
rude, not helping ....don't take her
Mary Alice is amazing. Among the numerous English teachers I've had, she is undoubtedly the BEST, hands down. DO take this class if you want to learn how to write and CRITICALLY THINK (harder than it sounds). DON'T take it if you're a slacker expecting an A+. She's NOT your typical De Anza teacher. She cares so much for every one of her student!
I really loved taking Mary Alice's critical thinking class. She genuinely cared about us and if you're willing to learn she's willing to teach. She doesn't grade easily and she really expects a lot out of you in terms of papers. She wants you to put in your best efforts when writing papers.
After reading all the previous comments, I believed that despite her difficulty I would be able to survive in this class. I was wrong and she is by far the hardest teacher at De Anza. She's not clear and my class would have 30 minute discussions just to clarify the topic of her essays. Take her if your willing to write ridiculously hard essays.
hard to understand and not clear at all
Such great class. I didn't know what to expect, but you really learn how to think. This woman is the most brilliant english teacher.
At first, I thought I shouldn't have taken her class because it seemed she was a boring teacher. But, believe me, she turned out to be the best English teacher I have ever had. your writng skill, especially organization, will be amazingly improved after taking her class. ps. she is always in her office to help students out. Really great!
Not very clear on assignments as far as due dates and what we had to read. Sometimes she came off as rude. She is not private in discussing grades AT ALL. If you don't turn in an assignment be ready for her to point it out awkwardly in front of everyone. The best advice for ANYONE taking her class GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS as much as you can.
Very friendly, definitely enjoys class discussions. Gets off track easily so assignments are constantly delayed leaving a crunch at the end of the quarter. Not very detailed ... assigns homework and then forgets to collect it. Super helpful if you approach for further understanding. Lots of group work.
Take this class with ANYONE else! Save yourself the frustration. She is not clear about anything. more than half my class dropped, and I wish I had been one of them. Each class when something was given for an assignment, we would be asking her questions for a 1/2 hour just to confirm everything she wanted. She never gives a straigt answer :(
Ms. Bonilla knows how to teach you writing. She really helped me learn the rules of essay writing. With those rules I will always be able to write good essays. However, she is easily irritated if you do something wrong and her frequent giggling somehow got on my nerves. So, if you don't want her to be irritated then do your job on time.
I'm an English major, and I love love love her. The only people in my class that didn't like her were the ones that weren't willing to put in any work. And yes, there's a lot of work, but you will thank her in the end. I can debate any topic successfully after her critical thinking/writing class. If you're lazy, don't take her class.
Professor Bonilla is one of the best english instructors. she cares about her students' success and willing to help them with whole heartedly. she encourages u to think critically doesn't matter u r in her critical writing class or not. she noes how to teach the students to be a good writer. recommend her definitely 100% u will learn valuable skill
Very helpful. Learn a lot of important materials in her class. Somewhat difficult. Not laid-back. Her lectures can be boring at times. She's willing to help those who wants individual help. Take her!
This is college guys! Class is easy if you do the work. Responding to all those people that commented bad, they're just lazy! I just hated the in class essays cuz I like to take my time. However, she is a good teacher to learn from. If you're transferring, you better take her to write properly! She's willing to help you, if you're willing to try.
Has no respect for other instructors. Thinks she is god's gift to English. She is unorganized and unprofessional at times. Negatively Targets students who have rcvd A's in other English classes. She has potential 2 B an EXCELLENT professor, if she'd set aside her arrogance. If you take her class, "KNOW YOUR STUDENT RIGHTS" She will violate them
Mary Alice has got to be the best teacher I've ever had at De Anza. She's pretty much what college is supposed to be - packed with reading and work - since we all know De Anza doesn't challenge most people. As stated in other ratings, this class is definitely not for lazy students; she will make you work.
I did not like her one bit! She talks down to her students which i did not respect one bit. She is very unorganized and would "sometimes" come to class unprepared. Her lecture is very hard to understand. She never clarify exactly what she would want us to do. When ask for help, she would always assume that we don't pay attention! Bad teacher!
A great tough brilliant teacher. She will help you maximum if you try. But do not come to class unprepared, or expect to be babied. She will give you a sheet with all the details of what she expects. Read it. You will think and work hard. If you want to get into a 4-year, and hope to get a job someday, and her class is too hard for you, good luck.
This professor is the best of the best! She can teach you how to write sentences that make you sound like a genius! Seriously take her!!!Your writing skills will improve and reading comprehension will become better than ever before! This class is not the easiest class, but i can guarentee you that it's the class of a life time and that she beats th
What a great class! She is clear clear clear, if you pay attention, take notes, ask questions, and do the work. She met with me for hours. I am so grateful. My writing is definitely better. More than that, she helped me begin to grow up, to think clearly about my future. I wish all my teachers were as focused and devoted to my success.
Spent half the quarter talking about herself and how wonderful a student she was. She was absolutely baffled when the entire class dropped a grade on an essay, never once questioning her teaching. Too difficult a class for 1A, and Mary Alice was just plain rude and condescending most of the time. Not worth it.
Great class, She tought us some great tools that will help up in be successful in the future. She was honest about all the right things helping the class build realistic views for the future.
She is very sweet and caring but a little unclear. Very hard grader and the class was incredibly hard. I would suggest this class with Patton.
Her class is so disorganized! You pretty much do not know what to expect each day when you're in her class. Also, she takes forever going over stuff that seems pointless, and her class just seems to drag on and on. What's worse is that a lot of times she would talk about pointless stuff. I would not recommend her since her class is really hard.
Great teacher! She is a tough essay grader but she gives you useful feedback so you can improve your writing.
She's very arrogant and has a huge ego to be checked. Every other class meeting would be filled with someone asking her a question and her complaining the whole time. Very unorganized and has nothing good to say about anyones work.tagging up someones paper with negatives remarks is not going to help. and she wonders why people do badly on essays..
Mary Alice reminds me of my 6th grade to teacher. My self esteem would be crushed on a daily basis and i began to grow a very deep hatred for school. I was always scared to ask questions from the fear of being treated like some idiot. I dont know how she is in her other classes but do not, i repeat do not take her ewrt 1b
She's a decent teacher. She was a philosophy major, so she can sometimes get a little hard to follow. She is rather scatterbrained, and we ended up having most stuff crammed into the last few weeks of class. It was not hard to pass, a big last essay, several other essays. She was not bad, just kinda mediocre. You could learn a lot in this class.
Very hard teacher. Really unclear, and I really wouldn't suggest her for EWRT 1C.
You must be willing to ask her for help. Don't be shy, stay after for class or talk to her during office hours. I enjoyed the subject matter and her approach to teaching ideas that seemed overwhelming at times. Her honesty and support helped me become a better writer, as well as a better person. Most importantly she taught me how to reason.
Gotta put some work in her class. Work meaning, gotta challenge yourself to escape the chains that lock your mind up. If you dont do that, you can never appreciate what she does as a teacher. Mary must teach differently to adapt to today's changing world. Her class is a breath of fresh air compared to some instructors. Open ur mind, u can learn
My view on english is to read material about life's ups and downs and strong personalities and write about that. In this class u will read material that all deliver political messages. Isnt anyone else tired of these teachers trying to make us hop on their political bandwagons? p.s. she will try to convince you terrorism can be justified! LOL :]
This class is extremely difficult, to the point where most students failed the first essay. It makes all of my previous classes look like kindergarten. Hopefully, the difficulty of the class will prepare me for UC and CSU professors.
Bonilla is a good teacher if you take the time to go see her individually. In class, she is a bit unorganized but still manages to excel at leading interesting class discussions. She does, however, need to work on her constructive criticism of students' comments because she sometimes makes them feel incompetent. You will be challenged and learn!
MRS BONILLA IS AN AMAZING TEACHER.... SHE IS TOUGH BUT FAIR.... I LEARNED SO MUCH FROM HER... IF YOUR IN CLASS AND PARTICIPATE YOU CAN TRULY LEARN AND BE SUCCESSFUL IN HER CLASS...I ENJOYED HER CLASS AND WILL BE TAKING her EWRT1A CLASS IN THE FALL
She really cares about her students eventhough she grades our paper really hard at first but trust me if you want to be a successful student and do good in EWRT 1A TAKE HER CLASS BECAUSE YOU WILL LEARN
I was quite resistant to her teaching methods when it came to writing, but she really loves what she does and she knows what she is doing. It's frustrating at first, but just perserve and you'll learn loads. I went into the class begrudgingly but I learned so much. Truly. :)
Hard, confused, unorganized, rude. Not recommended unless you like challenging.Usually I'm thankful for my instructors but I have a horrible experience with her. She rarely directly answers ur questions coz she wants u to think, but it's confusing dude.TBH,I was scared and had a hard time with her.Again, not recommended unless u like challenging.
Hard, confused, unorganized, rude. Not recommended unless u like challenging yourselves. Usually I'm thankful for my instructors but I had a terrible experience with her. Never be satisfied and wasted students'time.Yeah u'll learn, in a extremly stressful and difficult way.Again, not recommended unless u have lots of free time and patience
Excellent Professor. I had her in spring quarter 2011, LART211 course. Though it was challenging, she helped me become a more efficient english essay writer. She is nice and encourages students to ask her questions. She helps you think a lot about the subject. Thinking is what makes a better writer.
Ms. Bonilla is a tough professor as her standards are exactly where they should be. Don't enroll in this class thinking that it will be an easy A, cause it won't be. Instead, if your interested in becoming a better writer and thinker, this is the class for you. PS. Office hrs should be used!!
If you are an accomplished writer, she'll show you how you suck. If you're not, she'll help you get there. She makes you the best you can be because she doesn't set standards. That being said, you probably don't have to work as hard as you'd think if you're trying to get a B/C. But, she will de disappointed because she actually cares.
Overall Ms. Bonilla is a ok teacher, but for our class she is really unprganized. She tells us that her class will go hand in hand with her rubric, but it doesnt. She is very unclear about her assignment. She has overall good intentions, but truthfully i woouldnt reccomend this class to anyone!
First off you need to understand that ELIT 48A is an entry level class that requires no prerequisites. She grades the class however as if we are all upper level english majors. Due to the collective animosity of the class she let up a bit as the quarter wore on. I would not recommend this class if you have a full workload as it is.
As a Literature teacher she's a disappointment. She's does little more than give endless monologues to a bewildered classroom. She's smart, but not well organized, and as a community college teacher her expectations are through the roof. Community college is meant to PREPARE one for university level work, but apparently, she didn't get the memo.
People find her class to be difficult. Ms. Bonilla cares for her students and genuinely wants them to succeed. College is college. She definitely reminds you that we're not in high school any more. I've learned so much in this class. I had no idea how to write essays. By the end, I find that I'm capable of writing a research papers. Awesome teacher
Avoid this teacher if possible.
For english/lit majors, she helps writers organize and develop different ways of thinking and looking at the texts. Discussions are controlled by the same people who voluntarily speak so they weren't as thoughtful. She's also highly disorganized, but in the end she was able to improve my writing skills and prepare me for upper division level work.
Not a good lit teacher at all. It seems her expertise is in writing and this is where her focus is in the class. Very little textual analysis and poor grading methods. Would not recommend for lit, would reccomend for writing
Bonilla's class really helped me improve my writing and way of approaching scenarios. Lots of inclass discussions about essays and controversial court cases. My concerns are during the quarter I had her she is still figuring out how to arrange the class and will call out students if they don't read what was assigned to them.
Many of the discussions that take place in the class make me very uncomfortable as a white male.
Do not take her...she comes to class unprepared and types up things she should have done prior to class during class..Also, does not explain assignments thoroughly and wastes time talking about global issues rather than actual writing and critical thinking. Total waste of time, do not take. Take Tono Ramirez for critical thinking instead!
Class is all discussion, grade is all essays. Critical thinking and reading articles and analyzing, class was boring and frusturating. Got an A- but you gotta work hard for it and really do well on essays, nice lady tho. If youre a really good essay writer you should be fine if not avoid cause you wont really improve taking this class
Unorganized. Petty. Fancies herself infallible. Do yourself a favor and take another class
This teacher really cares about her students. She makes it a point that she's not perfect and therefore we shouldn't be either. She's very understandable if you take the time to talk to her outside of class. If you need help she'll give it to you if you seek it. I really enjoyed her class and she showed me that she believed in me.
Ms.Bonilla truly cares about the success of each student. Her classes can be difficult at times. However, the difficulty level is very appropriate for the subject matter that she teaches. Ms. Bonilla's teaching style has one question one's own value system, and therefore the difficulty lies in the interpretation of one's own struggles. A+++ instr
BEST TEACHER EVER!! she really does care about you! not strict at all, moves schedule around for you, works with you and grades on essays only, 2 take home essays and 2 in class essays, no quizzes what so ever
every class was useless analytical discussion on articles, extremely hard on grading, pointless, still got an A- but had to work hard last essay is like a 12pg research paper where you argue and rebuttal meh shes ok
hard but I took a lot out of this class.very strict on outlines.take her!7
She is the worst teacher ever. I ended up getting an A+ in the class, but only after I had to deal with her giving me a hard time for showing up at her office hours and working my butt off to write the final essay exactly how she specified (she loved to correct her previous corrections, it drove me mad). Do yourself a favor and don't take her.
She's so incredibly negative. She loves berating you and telling you what you did wrong without highlighting anything you did right. She constantly brags about how she took APs in high school her many masters degrees and expects you to be as smart as her while saying she doesn't want to turn you into a mini-her.
Super vague with due dates and what's actually due. Like she'll say OUTLINE DUE. So I'll turn in an outline NOT KNOWING THERE WAS A WORKS CITED DUE AS WELL. I tell her that I know I messed up and I expect my grade on it to reflect it. She just stares at me like I'm some kind of idiot. Wouldn't have had these problems if things were clearly stated.
Quite literally the worst teacher ive ever had.Thinks shes infallible, rude&arrogant, high expectations, terrible teaching, inconsiderate, bossy.realistic as in She expects nothing extraordinary, but, she is a terrible teacher.you will learn to copy her instead learning new style.has a fight w/student every day b.c of her arrogance. its funny go see!
she's very rude and condescending, do not take her!
Even though she was a tough teacher I honestly learned so much from her and she was truly their for those who really cared to learn. And for those who were not interested she could be a bit catty. Other than that I would recommend her if you really want to learn how to write essays.
She seemed hard at first, but she truly cares about her students. She is one of those few teachers that will hold your hand and tell you what you need to improve on. If you put in the effort, Mrs. Bonilla will transform you as a writer. After writing your final essay, you will feel very accomplished, and thankful for having her as a mentor.
She's a good teacher. Not a lot of homework at all, just some readings and one novel that was really good. We had about 4 papers, 3 take home and one in class. The papers are most of your grade. Your writing will get really good. You can miss a couple classes.
Prof Bonilla has to be one of my favorite professors I've ever had. The first few weeks I thought I was destined to fail the class, as she is very demanding in what she wants. However, once you start to understand what she's looking for, the class becomes a breeze. She's sweet and really cares about her students, but she's also not a pushover.
Hard grading professor but gives out good feedback. She requires students do outlines for essays which help in the long run. Do not expect to get an A in the essays or the class. However, you should be more comfortable writing essays after her class.
This is the hardest class you will ever take but it is SO worth it. Trust me when I say she will make you a great writer. If you take this class, prepare to be frustrated, prepare to cry. But I guarantee you will emerge a MUCH better, much more direct and clear writer. Take this class, but bring tissues.
Although she is a tough grader, it is much worth taking a brutal marking on your papers. She tends to be on the harsh side but it isn't to be mean but to get you to understand what you're doing wrong. I would most definitely recommend taking her, if you want to really develop your writing skills.
Very rude and very hard to understand. Expects you to write an amazing paper without showing you how to actually do it. Terrible feedback on papers.
The worst professor I have ever had. She is very unclear about the essays she requires and has really high expectations. She won't help you improve but expects you to get better and better
Ms. Bonilla is one of my favorite teachers, she inspires me to do better, not just in writing but in life. She cares greatly about the content of essays, and gives constructive, honest feedback. Shes a little blunt and at first the class sucks but overall made me a greater writer. Take if you are willing to learn
Professor Bonilla was tough, but damn she improved my writing. If you want to get better and learn to write a college essay to the best of your ability, take her class. She will prepare you for essays by going over detailed pre-writing strategies and giving you tough but fair feedback and grades. She is not an easy A, but a great teacher!
She was really rude. Asked her if she had a pen once and said she's too educated to be my employee. As far as teaching she's a very tough grader but her outline method helped me a lot but that's pretty much all I got out of her class. Minimal homework.
I had professor Bonilla last quarter and she was Amazing !!!!! My writing improved so much because of her ! You're not just given your grade, she expects you to work for it ! Her outline method helped me so much. All the long nights and homework were worth it ! Im taking her EWRT 2 Class this fall ! I recommend her to whoever wants to improve !!
SHE IS A VERY TOUGH GRADER! If you even use a word she doesnt feel belongs in a sentence she will mark you down. Expect to write essays her way and if not you will not pass her class. If possible take another professor.
Do not take her she wants essay to be written her way with her ideas and if they aren't there will be markings all over your paper. Her lectures are general unhelpful and so are her comments on essays. During class she will insult students on their writing skills and in personal conversations the disrespect is more blatant.
I really enjoyed this class! This class really helped me organize my thoughts and improved my writing for any class. You need to show up to take advantage of the lectures, but I found the information interesting and thought provoking. She's also very helpful if you need guidance. I'll probably take her again!
I have plenty to say but I rather just say it's not worth taking her class.
this time was my first time taking her class and to be honest I shouldve dropped it when i had the chance to. She is sarcastic and will yell at you in front of everyone it was just a really awkward class to be in. I would not recommend taking her class.
She is a tough grader, but helps me organize my thoughts and create outlines. I talked to her after class and she answered my questions and discussed my concerns. Unfortunately, she can sometimes come across as sarcastic or rude towards students. But if you speak with her one on one you will find she is really a caring teacher!
Prof Bonilla teaches a lot about writing. She makes sure you write an outline to organize your ideas before an essay. She assigns readings every week, but come on, reading is how you improve your writing. She's not an easy grader; but once you get her feedback, talk to her!! Take her, especially EWRT211,you see your writing significantly improved
-Very helpful in regarding general writing advice as whenever she assigns an essay, we construct an example essay to a similar prompt during class. During this time, she assists us with word choice, sentence structure, logical progression etc. No accent, is easy to understand. Each assignment is worth more than the last. articles/short stories
Professor Bonilla is a great person! She really wants her students to succeed and has a clear grading criteria. If you get an answer wrong in class she isn't afraid to correct you, but she does this to help her students grow as a write and critical analyst. The work load was not too heavy, however we did write a couple essay this quarter. Take her!
She's very egotistical and can have an attitude at times but you'll definitely come out of her class a better writer. If what you're looking for is an easy A, then I wouldn't recommend her class. However, if you are truly seeking to improve your writing skills, she's definitely someone you should consider.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken at De Anza. She makes you attend every class, and if you don't, she will skull you the nest session. Her lectures are irrelevant to the course material. She grades essays like you are in Ph.D. school.
Professor Bonilla is a great teacher! If you want to learn how to write an essay properly & be ready for a 4 year university or state college then take her class. She is a very caring teacher, gives great feed back when you write, & if you need help she is there for her students. If you are looking for something easy this is not it.
Very helpful if you ask for it. She makes small modifications to your writings that make them a lot better while keeping your style in there. Her sass can get annoying sometimes when you're not in a good mood, but otherwise it was pretty entertaining
She is very helpful & gives good feedback on papers. Assigns readings that you'll use throughout the course. You'll develop good writing skills that will help at a University level. Very helpful if you communicate, & class discussions are engaging. She is best resource if you are having difficulty with essays. Took EWRT 211-2, A's in all 3.
Amazing. Just loved attending her classes. The papers we wrote were thought-provoking and really let me flex my creative and vocabulary muscles. Copious feedback and clear grading criteria help you course correct in specific areas as necessary. Prof Bonilla is passionate about her work and her enthusiasm shines through in all her classes.
She's really caring, and really loves teaching clearly. If you really want to learn I recommend this class. She can be a little mean, but that's just her personality. Participation and attendance are defiantly mandatory and she will call you out. If you participate she will like you!
Prof Bonilla is a great professor;she cares about her job, and you can tell by the way she carries her classes. She always has office hours and she responds to emails very quickly. If you're okay with doing alot of homework and attending lectures, then I would recommend this class. If you want a class that will improve your writing this is the one.
This professor is super arrogant and bombards students with journals as if they have all the time in the world to do them.
I wish I had checked this site before having her as my professor. She's way too egotistical and says that she wants to "help" her students but instead she completely criticizes everything about you when you do ask for help. I wouldn't take her class ever again.
Professor Bonilla is awesome. If you are struggling with writing, her class is definitely the one you should take. Her teaching skills are great and she is super caring. There has been so many time where I was struggling with my paper and asked her for help after class and received awesome feedback. She even wrote a recommendation letter for me.
I found this class extremely helpful and insightful. Even though it is DIFFICULT at times, (due to timing) your hard work is indeed rewarded. Her lectures are really helpful and relevant. At times she can be VERY harsh though she speaks from experience. Just note there's a lota of work. Good luck.
Professor Bonilla is amazing. She is one of the best professors I have met. She responded to students' questions very quickly and really try to help her students improve their writing. She is patient and listens to her students. Yes, there is a lot of assignment. Pay attention to the schedule and you will do well.
If you're looking to get prepared for real college level coursework then Bonilla is the one for you, those that complain are clearly not prepared to take academic life seriously. One of the first assignments she gives you is to prepare a schedule for yourself which if you take seriously will help you pass her class.
My absolute favorite professor at De Anza! She is such a wonderful teacher that will prepare you for university. YES, this class is tough, but you come out as an amazing writer on the other end. It may appear that she is critical but it is because she truly wants the best for her students. Always gives good feedback, will be taking her class again!
I was actually hoping to be challenged by her so I could become a better writer and actually learn something but instead, she literally belittled and bullied me for no reason. How does that challenge someone to become better? She only favored the students who seemed more advance than everyone and picked on the students who struggled like It was fun
I had high hopes when I entered this class. However, professor Bonilla is extremely rude and disrespectful. She constantly belittled our online class and made us feel bad about our writing skills. You can never satisfy her, her instructions are confusing and unclear. If you can, find another professor.
Friendly reminder, take it if you have confidence that you have excellent writing skills unless you need a good grade to transfer to UC/CSU, DON'T take this class!! If your grade is lower than 85% during sem consider dropping it. She will bring down your grade after the final!! Because she will not grade your work until you are done with the final!
Bonilla is a hard ass professor, but only because she cares about the future of her students. I entered the quarter with pure hatred for getting stuck in such a heavy assignment class with a very long syllabus. What I received was how to effectively write in an academic environment. Take the class. Do the work. Participate. It's worth it.
just dont
If youre serious about your education and aren't afraid of a challenge, take her. I had a rough start with her because she doesn't take any BS, she will push you to be your best and she has no time for your incompetance. DO THE WORK- SEEK THE HELP- TRY YOUR BEST- if you do you will walk out PREPARED for higher education.
EWRT 1A is exponentially easier taught by ANY other professor. Bonilla makes her own rules, bullies her students, favors the ones of the same ethnicity as herself...SO much material, graded as if it's not an intro level class and most students' first quarter. Avoid at all costs. If she doesn't personally like you, ur not getting an A, it's rigged.
