She seems like a good teacher, but if you are stupid at math DON'T take her. I did okay on homework and quizzes but her tests are really hard and she does not always give a curve. Other students I talked to agreed.

Took class with 120 people, aced the quizzes, homework, bombed 3 tests, and came out with a B. Really nice professor, and she curved all our tests with 5pt multiples. Twice got a 15 pt curve. She also gives pts to the class when lots of people leave early
I am bad in math, but she made it easier. I liked her ok. She sometimes seems stupid and spacey, but she is pretty good.
I hate math with a passion and usually do average at it but she actually made it interesting and easy to understand for the most part. Plus she builds in a lot of curves into the tests so you have a better chance at making a decent grade.
Eventhough she requires more work from you than Dr. Cherry - she's a lot easier to understand than he is. Especially if you're not very good in math- like me! And she does give pretty big curves on the exams :)
Prof Teel is very sharp and very good at explaining connections between topics. She expects her students to come to class having looked through the section and having written definitions and other things for reference during her lecture. When coming prepared this class is very exciting and rewarding
her class is really easy but she talks to us like we're in third grade. and when people ask her questions in class she looks at them like they're stupid before she answers them. easy class, don't like her much though.
she talks to her students like they're in pre-school and then makes tests out that seem rather chalengging and almost too difficult..since she goes over the easy stuff in class and puts the hard stuff on the tests. don't take teel if your aiming for an A or B!!!
If you do your homework and turn it in on time, and do well on your quizzes, you're set bc her tests are a little hard which leaves room for you to make mistakes on them. Also STUDY THE REVIEWS!Shes gets some of her questions from them but just re words them. made a C &never did anything. take her!

BEST math teacher I've had. Explainations are crystal clear and to the point. Easiest A ever.

All I remember, was this was the one math class that I didn't DREAD every day. She was personable, and made fun of herself all of the time, which I found funny. She made it understandable and not so daunting!
Excellent teacher. She makes math simple for those who are ordinarilly intimidated by it and keeps those who are more mathematically advanced interested. Very helpful, will always listen and take questions. If you're putting off that last math credit you n
I have no idea why there are ANY negative comments about Teel on here, she is so incredibly patient and really makes sure everyone understands the material before overwhelming you. I was quite often a bad student in more than one of her classes, but she was always an awesome teacher. Thanks Ms.Teel!
One of the best professors I have ever had. She is funny, comes up with good examples, and makes the class pretty easy. She is highly recommended in my book
Nice teacher~~ The test is easy. She gives you a good review before the test. It is similar to the exam. She talks slow and explain stuff well.
The first exam is over Algebra (great for those who haven't done math in a while). Teaching style is annoying at first because of how she shows every little step, but very helpful later on with less familiar material.
Wow, Mrs. Teal is clear and helpful and although I had this as an early morning class :( I did learn a lot and enjoy it. Tests are pretty self explainiitory if you go to class every day. Loved it I hope I can get in her class for second half math.
I'm sorry, but anyone that praises this **** needs to be slapped or something. Any work she assigns is annoying busy work that doesn't make sense unless you go to HER class and learn how to do it HER way and HER way only. I'm sorry, but I learned all this crap in middle school, I shouldn't HAVE to learn it YOUR way, ****.
she didnt prepare us well b4 tests. Her review is tht she reads off of her tests, and says what she reads is on the test. But, i have not found that to be true bc i studied off of that & she puts out things on the test that i dont remember her mentioning. i think she needs to give better reviews b4 tst day. shes 2 into going to the nxt chp
she's funny. very cynical and sarcastic. her class is pretty tough if you are not good at math. you need to go to class everyday or you'll definitely miss something.
She is very thorough in her lecture, and explains each step. You'll hate it at first, but appreciate it later. Keep all of your work from the beginning of the semester because you'll need it to study for the final.
crazy, but a good teacher
Articulate, excellent communicator, good at explaining. Moves at comfortable speed, not too fast or slow. Uses analogies to help you relate new material to something you understand. Recommend her for anyone with math anxiety. I wish those with bad attitudes would look at themselves before badmouthing someone that cares about her students.
DO NOT take this class online if you're weak in math. I regret taking it, however I managed to pull off a high C. She was communicative if you had any questions, and she was very clear about assignments. I don't know her teaching style but she seems nice.
I hate math and usually skip classes, but i did not miss a single one because she actually made it very bearable. She is a mom and has college aged kids, so she knows what we're going through. She wrote the workbook used, so she always knew exactly what to teach us and how. Lots of homework though, but it helps you do better on the tests.
She's always so grumpy like she's mad at the class, no complaints on course content just a grumpy lady.
Treated the class like high school kids, didn't really explain anything on a level that was understandable, used completely crappy software to do the work, worst class I've ever taken.
This class was okay. She had weird moods, most of the time she's grumpy and sometimes she was happy. Don't buy the book, you'll never use it. Homework and quizzes are all online. It was a pretty easy class.
She gets the point across, but is very hard to keep attention in class. It is like high school all over again, just add 100 more assignments. if doing alot of homework is easy for you, take this class. A good thing about the class is that the homework is a easy hundred but counts little on over grade. test are most inportant, but must study to pass
She give alot of homework because she has to, but other than than she makes things easy to understand and really cares about the student concerns and she admits when she makes a mistake. i wish i could have her again.
There was a lot of homework but at the end of the semester she gave us a week to make up any assignments that we had not completed. She teaches the material a week in advance of the homework making it hard to understand sometimes.
Math 1010/110 two part course, don't take it. Great teacher, though. Cares a lot about her students and tries as hard as she can to help you pass without just giving you an A, you have to work for it. She makes things interesting, though. I thought she was a really great teacher.
She was a VERY Good teacher. I was in the class cuz of computers going down in my orientation... Since I had already passed the prereqs in Texas(TAKS Test)for attendance to not count. My attendance was not necessary and I rarely went to class but passed with a B. EVERYTHING is online Dont buy book.Seems grumpy at 1st but is very nice when approached
She really does care about her students, and if they pass the class. she does go really slow at first which makes it kinda hard to pay attention...but you get used to it...its a lot like a high school math class. DONT BUY TEXT BOOK!! all online only buy the MyMathLab packet!!!!
This class was easy, very good to take before college algebra. Ms. Teel was a great teacher and very helpful. We recieved great opportunities with the home work and quizes, and the tests practically came from my math lab. Enjoyed this class eventhough I'm terrible at math.
Horrible teacher, way too much work and test were hard. Had to due 2 online assignments every week that took atleast 2 hours and do a paper assignment and a quiz every week! On top of that 3 test plus a exam and a final. Bull teacher do not take! DO NOT TAKE! She kills gpa's
She is extremely hard, you have to earn a c. If you can do her 1650 class then the advance math class will be easy because she is so freaking hard.
DO NOT TAKE HER! She is absolutely horrible. Teel is a nice and sweet lady, but the class is as hard as it could possibly be. Her class examples convince you that the homework will be similar and easy but NEVER is. The tests are made harder than any example she will ever give as if she purposely does it. You may have a hard time staying awake also.
Worst teacher I have ever had,she does not help on anything at all. She gives reviews that are meaningless and gives way to much work. take cherry instead way better instructor.
DO NOT TAKE TEEL, ESPECIALLY IN MAYMESTER!! In the short 3-week course she gives the most difficult problems on purpose thinking it helps the students, but all it does is CONFUSE them. REVIEWS DO NOT MATCH EXAMS. She picks out harder exams for students she dislikes, VERY UNFAIR. RUN SCREAMING FROM HER CLASSES! Kills gpa's of normally "A" students.
Im not sure what the person below me is talking about. I am finishing maymester class with her and it's the best thing i have done. I have known many people who have taken Math 1100 twice and i think ill get a B. Yes it is a crazy amount of work, but of your commited its no biggie. I have been vary pleased with her as a professor.
lots of homework, 5 day class!!
Ms. Teel is a wonderful professor. The only reason people don't like her is because they are immature little children, who don't like to be considerate of others, that are surprised when a professor actually calls them out. If you aren't a child and, rather, a disciplined adult willing to learn, then Ms. Teel is for you!
She is immature, but I don't really let that bother me. That should not affect how you learn in her class. I like the fact that we do our homework on mymathlab. I got a A in the class, and I think that she explains the material VERY well, despite the way she acts. DO the EXTRA credit!! It will save you for when you forget to do a quiz or h/w.
Lots of homework to turn-in (at least 2-3 assignments per week) and each takes a couple of hours. Way too much hmwk for a lower-level math class. It's also worth a lot--20% of grade. Tests are not hard if you keep up with the workload. Mymathlab and online text is HUGELY helpful---best $75 spent on any class material.
She isn't a very good teacher. I took the exact same class at a community college and passed with a high A but it didn't transfer over so I had to take it again and passed with a C even though it was all of the same material. You have homework every class day and quizzes don't always match with the notes. She isn't very clear when she teaches.
She is horrible. She gives crazy amount of homework and does not match her teaching. Her tests are easy ;however ,your score will be drop o lot by her difficult homework, which is worth 20% on the entire score. More important, homework does not help you because it is too difficult that usually does not appear on exams.
Great teacher. Use the book! Ask questions, she will answer them!!! Work is not that easy, but lecture is very clear. Tests are multiple choice. Good Luck!
Ms. Teel was amazing! I am horrible at math and she was really helpful when I didn't understand. she was very supportive and encouraging. There is a lot of homework but she also gave a lot of extra credit. I would encourage anyone who is bad at math to take her class!
She likes to make jokes that aren't relevant to the subject, but she takes things slow so if you want to learn you will be able to. For being in such a big class I thought she was pretty good at keeping everyone together. She always gave opportunities to get extra credit on the tests too!
She is a good professor. She's comical and entertaining in some respects. She's not the most amazing teacher ever, but she takes things slow so that you can really understand them. Crazy amounts of online homework, and the ALEKS lab is HORRIFIC!!!!!! However, her exams aren't too easy or too hard, and she gives extra credit.
Mrs. Teel is SUPERRR nice.. she likes to make jokes and is pretty dingy.. but she takes her time during lectures, and she really tries to work with you. I would advice you to take her.. the math lab portion of the class sucks but its not under her control. She even offers extra credit.. tests aren't too hard! TAKE HER!
Math has never been my best subject, but she took the time to go through the notes and thoroughly explain everything in a way that everyone understands it. Attendance isn't required, but I strongly advise showing up every class. She gives out extra credit a lot and goes over material that will be on the tests.
Im not sure what people are talking about when they say she kills gpa's. SHE doesn't do kill anything, if you fail its because of YOU not her! I have taken algebra 5 times and passed with flying colors during a maymester! She is a wonderful teacher! Take her if you plan to succeed! and Take responsibility for your grades
Teel is a great teacher I just got out of her Maymester and I passed with either a high c or low b. It's a lot of work and your grade is dependent on you. She gives incentives for studying the practice exams and this helps you study. My math lab is very helpfull in this class and I am awful at math. I highly recommend taking Teel!
I liked Mrs. Teel well enough. She could be funny at times but people often got confused when she was lecturing. But overall she is very nice and is more than willing to help you if you ask for it. If you take her you'll be just fine.
I've enjoyed her class because she can be funny at times. Also, she recognizes that everyone in her class isn't that great at math, so she tries to be as clear as possible. She gives extra credit for attendance, so go. There is a lot of work though. And the MathLab program it's done on can be flawed at times. Either way, I'd recommend her.
choose this teacher! she is awesome! so sweet and funny. she is willing to do what ever it takes for her students to pass. she offers extra credit for test if you attend class on the day she announces extra credit she offers replacement quizes and test. you also you My stat lab which is extremely helpful! she is very patient.
Possibly the least helpful professor I've ever encountered at the university. Between the lab, (that's not related to the course what so ever) the quizzes, homework, and tests it's a lot, especially if you aren't a math-oriented person like myself. I didn't pass her class, even after additional points, and attending every class lecture.
Ms. Teel is an AWESOME teacher. She's a lil corny but overall such a nice teacher to listen to. She clarifies the subject matter and offers plenty of incentives to come to class. I think when she was younger she must've been super duper hot! Take her for math1190 and you'll do well!
Although I would never recommend a math class to anyone, if you have to take one, take it with Teel. She has 3 tests, and then a final exam. She gives you practice tests (which are EXACTLY LIKE THE ACTUAL TESTS) before each of the 3 tests. You can earn up to 10 points on each test if you do the practice tests. It's not that bad. Just be diligent.
I've had 5 Math professors in my undergraduate career. She gives you SO many chances to succeed, even if Math is your weakness. Her class is straightforward, and you are never worried about what the tests will look like. Her practice tests ARE the tests. Take her she's awesome!
Ms. Teel has a very fair math class set up to help you succeed, but whether you do or not is totally how much effort you put into it. It's not a very hard class, even if your not that good at math, but you have to put forth some effort for sure. If you have to take this class, then I would definitely recommend you take Teel.
I like MrsTeel. She really does what everyone to pass but does not care for slackers. If you suck at math she is the teacher for you she explains super slow. There are extra points and she gives you practice tests that are just like the actual tests. Even if you fail ALEKS, you can still pass. Go to class, and keep up with the online portion.
teel is extremenly helpful, she give out practice test before every exam, the exams are taken 100% from mystatlab homework and doing the practice test will get you extra points, sometimes when there is record low attendance she give extra point, the aleks portion is easy if you put in the time for it.
Great instructor who went out of her way to make certain we knew he expectations and she helped any time we asked. If you apply yourself and the time needed for the class there is no reason why you should not do well with her.
She is tough but fair. Very strict when it comes to classroom ettiquette. Do your homework, it is the test exactly. Gives bonus points. Hard work will get you an A with her. I recommend her
I took her class during the Summer and LOVED it. She was so helpful and made the material easy to understand and I HATE MATH. I made nearly perfect scores on all Tests! Was lazy on hw so i made a B could have easily made an A. She's caring and funny, Take her class! I highly recommend her :) One of the BEST math Professor at UNT.
Mrs. Teel is a saint and honestly, in my opinion, the best lecturer and teacher I have ever had in my whole life. She is extremely caring, Brilliantly funny, and has the BEST sense of style!!! Mary Ann Teel is AMAZING. I would 100% recommend her. Thank you Mrs. Teel.
Very easy class. She does examples in class and the tests are exactly like the homework. If you have to take this class, she's the professor you want!!
Great teacher! Really funny and knows what she is talkng about! A lot of homeswork but it is very easy and it is almost impossible not to make atleast a B in the class.
Ms. Teel is a wonderful math teacher! Her tests come straight from the mymathlab.com quizes and she even tells you the objectives she is putting on the test so you know what to study. Also provides many opportunities to make a good grade (drops one quiz, makeup assignments). Attendence isn't mandatory she but takes it randomly for extra credit!
Great Algebra Teacher! :D Made an A in her Class my freshman semester! I hardly showed up, & did not buy the textbook!
Wonderful Teacher! Words can not say how appreciative of her I am! She is very willing to help if you show that you are trying to learn! AMAZING teacher.
She is a GREAT teacher! She is funny, clear and willing to help if you ask for it. The tests are multiple choice and come straight from mymathlab. Attendance is mandatory, but when a lot of people dont show she gives extra credit! I definitely recommend taking her class!
An easy A if you do all the h/w. Gives a lot of extra credit. I definitely recommend taking her class. At times though the class can get a bit boring.
Ms. Teel is a wonderful professor! I think its easier to pass this class than fail. If you come to class, pay attention, and generally just do your work when its due then you will be fine! Love, love, love this teacher even though I hate, hate, hate math!
this prof is awesome. she gives you a copy of the test in the reviews. attendance is mandatory and she is a little RIDICULOUS about it. You have to come to class or she will drop you with a WF! do all homework's and reviews and you will do very well. she's a little absent minded and kinda corky. Do not use your phone ever!
There is no way, you could not pass this class she gives you every opportunity, for extra credit. Several chance when it comes to homework, and if you do the review, it's that exact replica of the upcoming exam.
Amazing, brilliant woman! Takes special care to help you understand, lots of work, but its a good feeling knowing what you're doing because she went the extra mile to help those who had a hard time understanding! I cant say enough about Ms.Teel, fantastic personality, great educator! Take this professor you wont regret it!
I had a hard time in this class, but I emailed her about what I was getting wrong and she would walk me through it and point out my mistakes. She gave a couple extra credit assignments.
Professor Teel is an amazing professor, the only thing is, she isn't helpful when it comes to questions. When you ask her a simply question she will respond with "check the syllabus" when she can easily answer the question. She is very sarcastic and almost rude, beware if you don't like those types of professors.
The class isn't easy but definitely isn'thard. She wants you to pass and will help out if you need it. Gives reviews for the test that you can get extra credit from. If you're in remedial math this is probably the best option to squeeze by and get it over with. She's big on attendance but it doesn't count toward your grade. No cellphones or laptops
Ms. Teel is an amazing woman who will go out of her way to help any student who does not understand. However, she'll only help you if you visit her office hours, very hard exams, but she gives A TON of extra credit. Her grading system is set up to where if you fail all three exams with at least a 50, you can still get at least a C in the course.
She is very tough. She does not allow students to email for help. Can only come to her office hours that has a very small slot for the week. Goes through lectures very quickly and assigns the HW from mymathlab the same day she finishes lecture, which does not give those who have a job enough time to complete. If you're good at math take her.
She is an amazing professor. She is super nice and very helpful. Doesn't tolerate rudeness and interruptions in class. There is A LOT of homework in this class. Very fast-paced. Exams are LENGTHY and hard to finish on time. You will discover material not covered in lecture popping up in HW. Prepare for sleepless nights!
Took her online via Richland College. Standard online class. There was some opportunity to recover if you did poorly early on. Never saw my graded written exams, but I wd. guess that she is fairly generous. BTW, and this is not a reflection on her at all, but I do not recommend taking an online class that uses WebAssign if you have other options.
She is a great teacher. She has printed notes for the entire course with reviews in them for each section. She gives extra credit homework assignments and the end of course that will be the review for the final exam and if you pass them you get 10 extra points and to your final. The class is very hard if your not good at math.
Math is not my strong point, but I was able to make a B. She tells you what to expect on tests, which are manageable. There's a lot of homework, but she will often extend deadlines or increase the amount of attempts. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Attendance is MANDATORY- she will drop you. Funny and easy to understand. Highly recommend her!
Just follow the notes an you'll be fine
Not professional, does not like to help students out. Has an attitude when you walk into her office hours, and demands more than any professor I ever had. Very strict if you're into that then go ahead.
She's pretty strict. She is clear in class but homework online isn't always what we've gone over so I've had to teach myself a little. You can get 100's on all HW due to the multiple attempts allowed. Tests are pretty difficult, even with studying so be prepared to REALLY work for it. This is coming from someone who usually gets math easily.
I would not recommend this teacher to any student. She is always at least 2 to 3 chapters ahead of every other class. She doesn't clearly explain anything she does the work for you and expects you to know how to do it. If you have a test of a Thursday, that Tuesday instead of giving of helping you for the test she will teach you new information.
I think this professor likes her subject, but she doesn't teach it so well. I think she tries to act like nothing bothers, she can sometimes say some sorta mean things while trying to maintain a cold exterior. She doesn't post grades. I would not suggest her unless you're very good at math and don't mind dedicating much of your time to studying.
She is an amazing professor! I recommend her to all of you out there who lost hope for math! Do your homework, and ask questions!!! she likes that and then she will be fun in class. P.S. Just dont do anything disrespectful or she will be your worst enemy haha
She teaches with a sense of everyone is at her level. Screams, does not have any patience, leaves about 150 math problems, tough exams. If ur not good in math run away from her. She is fake and pretends she cares.
Ms. Teel is great! shes so funny and you can tell she loves teaching math and makes this class quite enjoyable whether you love math or not. classwork is 100% the online textbook so expect to have easy homework at least twice a week. She gives test reviews that are the exact questions that'll be on the test and gives extra credit if you do them.
What she teaches in her lectures dont even match the homework she assigns or the tests that she gives. both of which are extremely hard.
Every single person i talked to failed every single test. She is a tough grader and not a good teacher. Good luck if you have to take the class!! And be prepared to take notes and do hw every night.
Ms. Teel is great! She makes her lectures enjoyable by making jokes, interacting with the class, and helping students when they have questions! The homework is from the book, so sometimes there is content she does not have time to cover! The tests are hard, so study for them! The recitation helped me the most for this class!
This math class is designed for you to pass. Homework' can be redone so that you can get a 100 on every one However, No extra credit is ever given. Notes are given in a guided class note outline which is a tremendous help. She doesn't offer any more help than a brief question or 2 in class, otherwise you are directed to see the math lab tutors.
Ms. Teel is a great professor. She really knows her material and teaches it clearly. At the end of the semester she gave us a chance to re-do a few of the online homework assignments that we didn't do well on.
I had Mrs. Teel Tues/Thurs from 9:00-10:50. The lectures were extremely long. She does not teach the material necessarily. She shows you how she works the problem and gives you the answer. You have to teach yourself, which is hard since she does not do a good job of explaining her reasoning while working a problem.
Great teacher, GO TO OFFICE HOURS; going will benefit you greatly, she is very down to earth and helpful.. Go to class, after 4 absences you get dropped.. other than that take notes do the HW and always take advantage of her extra credit opportunities. You'll do fine.
Teel is a great teacher but she writes crazy hard tests. If you study the material well then you will be OK, but this is no easy A. Homework is normal for any math class, and she gives you opportunities to work to improve your grade. Hard class, but very educational. I am really prepared for 1190.
Professor Teel is immensely intelligent. She makes the same jokes everyday, but it's okay. She cares about her students even though it may not seem like it. Try not to piss her off, because I'm pretty sure she keeps razors in her hair. Listen, Print the Notes, SILENCE YOUR PHONE! -- She passed me when she should have failed me! Love HER!
Super awesome professors. Her lectures are straightforward, but if you get lost she's always up for clarifying. She uses mathlab which is tricky with due dates, so make sure to check at least every other day. She genuinely cares about her students passing and understanding the material, so if you're lost just ask.
Before each test she gives you a review and in order to get a good grade you NEED to go through the review. Sometimes the lectures feel like they're going on forever but just keep paying attention and write down everything that she does. She takes attendance at every class and if you leave early she will notice.
The class was hard because she moved every fast. If you are having trouble print out the homework then go to her office hours. She will help you. That is the only reason I pasted the class.
Loves her job. She is an amazing teacher. There is a lot of homework but it is a math course so it is expected. Her lectures are long but she explains the subject clearly. She is always willing to help students and she wants her students to do well. If you show up to class and try she will pass you. One of the best professors I had this semester.
sometimes she gets lost. She goes off-topic sometimes and says something very random then she expects you to finish the content on your own. Provides lecture notes but moves very fast. No curves.
She is the best of the best. If you really want to learn and understand, please go to her office hour any time you need. She doesn't bite!! She loves anyone who come to her office hour .
She knows exactly what she teaches and helps you in any way possible. If you don't ask for help, she doesn't know you need it. Very calculator based, a lot to take in, but a fairly easy grade. Hardest part is remembering various formulas.
I took her in Math 1180 & really liked her. Hard class, but fair grader. Took her again in summer for Math 1190. Terrible idea. 6+ hours of homework every night. 230 question final review that youre only given 36 hours to complete. ALOT of work in the summer. I do not recommend it. I had to take off work for 5 weeks cause there was so much work.
Great professor, but an extremely tough grader. She gives extra credit assignments that can help boost your test grade but the exams can be hard work. Homework is tedious but that is to be expected with math lab. Would not recommend taking this as a summer course though, I probably would have made a better grade during a full term.
Literally assigns a RIDICULOUS amount of homework. I understand homework serves a purpose, but for a non-majors, freshman-level math course, this is seriously outrageous. I honestly found myself stressed over the course-load for this class far more than any of my other courses. 0/10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
Terrible teacher, terrible attitude. If it's not exactly the way she wants you to do it, dont expect to get credit for it. She's probably one of the worst math professors I've ever had
Professor does not go over material well at all. Assigns ridiculous amount of homework. Course is extremely difficult for a college algebra class.
I dropped my math class from Professor Barber. The content was fairly easy, but the professor was extremely unorganized. She told us the first day of class not to email her. She never posted the notes online because some of the material was wrong. The homework was also ridiculous. It did not cover class content and was due at 6AM.
Avoid this professor at all costs. The amount of homework is insane, I would be doing 4+ hours of just math homework DAILY on top of my other classes. She's unorganized and has a bad attitude every day. Also her tests are much more difficult than the other math professors.
She's honestly not that bad. I have her in an 8am class and she's easy to stay awake to because her personality is pretty funny. I'm making almost a 90 and the homework is only due every morning before class online. I don't see why everyone hates her so much, as long as you do the work on time you'll understand what's going on.
I was a late add to this class. She would not say if she would accept my student information sheet late which was 12% of your grade and then went on to tell me she would allow me 2 days to get caught up on 4 additional math sections for full credit. To top it off once I dropped she emailed me within 5 hours to ASK if I dropped as if to taunt me.
DO NOT TAKE HER. This is supposed to be a freshman level, NON MAJOR math class and she makes it seem like this IS THE ONLY CLASS YOU ARE TAKING AND THAT YOU SHOULD DO MATH FOR 6 HOURS EVERY OTHER DAY. I had a panic attack almost every time I had to do the homework. If this is the only class that fits your schedule, WAIT. FIND ANOTHER CLASS.
Please don't take this professor. Homework takes 4-5+ hours to complete every other day. Professor is not very interested in helping people and doesn't teach course very thoroughly. If you can avoid this professor, do so and to avoid a difficult school year.
I took her in the summer 2016, and it is by far the most stressful experience ive ever had. You literally eat, breath, and live math. I went from working 35-40 hours a week to 10-15. It's a lot of work and definitely do not recommend it in the summer. If it were a regular semester, I'm sure it would have been a lot easier. She's ok, the class sucks
I have no clue why Ms. Barber has such a low rating. I have her for an 8 A.M., and it's easy to stay awake because she is funny. Lots of extra credit on tests, homework, and the final. She is always willing to help during office hours. I feel like most of the people here hate math, not her.
She is horrible. She is easily distracted and it is hard to stay engaged. She had the hardest tests and curriculum compared to other UNT 1580 professors. She is very cold and her policy is stupid. This will be one of your most time consuming classes if you actually want a A.
Ms. Barber is great! While this class isn't necessarily an easy A and you will have to work for it, the amount of extra credit is insane. If you take advantage of the extra credit and practice tests you can not fail. The practice tests are the exact same as the exams so take them! She is fun and keeps things interesting. I highly recommend her!
If I could take another 1580 professor, I would've. After talking to other students I found that she was giving us a lot more work than other professors. If you want to and can put in the time to work on the homework that takes hours, then you'll get an A. GO TO CLASS especially at the end bc she may give you extra time to study the practice test.
For this class you HAVE to stay on top of the my math lab tests and assignments. There are a lot of tests and assignments and you WILL be dropped if you skip too many times. Unnecessary amounts of ridiculous homework- coming from an honor student. Avoid her class if possible, there are way easier teachers and this should be an easy subject.
I took this class online, and it's actually insanely easy. As long as you do the homework, you can do well. She offers a lot of extra credit as well, and the practice exams (which count as extra credit) prepare you very well for the exams. The 3 exams and final exam were worth 70% of the class. I'm also an art major and naturally bad at math...
She is a very tough professor, but she expects the best from her students. Military friendly but don't expect a pass! Go to class, take the proper notes and do your homework. Don't be afraid of her office hours, I hear she has good advice!
Most intense person I've ever seen at 8 am, bring unit notes to class to follow and to study. 3-5 hours of homework after each class, 3 tests (good practice tests) and a final. Don't go to office hours because she is not friendly and has no sympathy. Last 2 weeks of class are most vital, went from C to A, Final is 25% and replaces lowest test grade
She is hard, but she will help you. Gives a lot of extra credit, but it is HARD. Her tests are just as he study guide. STUDY and ask questions in class because she teaches by doing the problems over and over. If you don't understand he foundation you will be lost when derivatives start.
this is my third semester at UNT and she is one of my favorite teachers! She's funny and straight forward, so paying attention in class is never an issue, which is a god send for a 2 hours class.. The material is tough, but it is business calculus. She's very helpful and does care about her students, she just doesn't entertain nonsense.
I had Barber for a condensed 5 week summer course so the class was very fast paced with lots of homework due the next day, everyday. Other than the homework load, Barber is a great teacher who definitely cares about her students. She gave extra credit options for every test and even the final, a few times just because for attendance. Great teacher!
Online class: She is very hard to get a hold of this is why I think she tells you to write questions in the discussion board so someone else in the class will answer your question. She will make you download a webcam/window blocker for Tests. All written assignments must scanned in pdf vs uploading through BB. 1000 class should not be this hard.
Professor Barber is a great math professor! She is always willing to help! I was always pretty bad at math, but now I am very confident in what i'm doing thanks to her teaching!
Worst teacher. If she experiences issues on her end and doesn't know what's happening she gives you a 0 and lacks communication(would post her emails if I could). Gives lots of homework, at least 3 MyMathLab a week, 1 discussion, 1 written assignment, and summary quiz per chapter. She's very picky about how to upload assignments. I usually make A's
Professor Barber is absolutely hilarious and is I thought she made math interesting. There was a lot of homework, but that was because she wanted us to get enough practice so that we knew what we were doing when it came time to take tests. So you can expect to have to put work into this class, but if you try and pay attention you should pass.
I took this same class at TTU and didn't do as well as planned but knew i could do better so I decided to take it online at a CC and turns out theres more content online than at a state institution!?? Also, I had to go to a funeral and missed an exam, she wouldn't let me make it up because I didn't inform her in time? She needs to be reevaluated.
I'm not a math person at all but Ms. Barber made it bearable. She's a great woman, super nice, and very willing to help. There's a lot of note taking and homework, always remember to print your notes! I would recommend (if your not in one of the fields specified by this course) to take something easier. This class is challenging.
I took online math 1580. This class is essentially you teaching yourself math. Ms Barber is intentionally vague and generally unhelpful. You will have roughly 4 assignments a week separate from the group discussions and written assignments. She's not usually available for questions and when she is she speaks in parables.
This class can be difficult, but if you do the assignments you will pass. I found her to be helpful and prompt, and I enjoyed her teaching style. I highly recommend printing the notes she provides, and doing your homework in advance as it can be time consuming.
Shes rude and talks down to you, she goes out of her way to make you feel 10inches tall. Better have tough skin because it appears that she enjoys making her students cry
Just don't do it. She's not helpful in any way. Terrible attitude. Thankful that I dropped her in time.
online class, she makes you print out papers then scan them back in. So if you dont have a printer then drive to staples print it out, do the paper then have it scanned as a pdf to turn it in, if its not a pdf it doesnt count. All of the work is on Pearson so she doesnt really do anything but be strict on what she actually grades.
This professor was alright. It was a difficult class and there is a LOT of homework, but there almost has to be since it was a lot of information in a 5 week course. The units would range from laughably easy to incredibly difficult. However she was always very prompt in replying to questions, and she dropped low hw grades at the end of the unit.
She is an amazing teacher. I'm terrible at math but she made all topics extremely easy to understand and she was very accessible. Her reviews cover all test topics, so do the review!! I highly recommend taking her for any math course she offers.
I took this course online and was not a fan. The units were so inconsistent and were either incredibly difficult or really simple. When there were technical issues with Pearson, she would first blame us and THEN look into if there was something wrong. I would not take this professor again.
I found this professor to be too impatient and she took too long grading. The material we went over was inconsistent and never in order making it harder to know what material needed to be studied and the professor was hardly available when you had questions. The course was online and I will definitely take online classes again just not hers.
Wasn't terrible, gives extra credit if you actually attend class. Doesn't keep track of attendance after the first few weeks.
Took the online Summer 10-Week course, however, this professor crammed it into 8-weeks! Mounds of daily work, weekly quizzes, tedious weekly written assignments (you MUST print then upload), inconsistent lectures (simple problems), and exam every other week (DIFFICULT problems, and material not covered). This a VERY difficult professor!
Classwork due 4-5 days a week. The assignments are very heavy, 25 problems +, 5 major exams & only given 1 day during the week to take it with lockdown browser and webcam. Definitely study the reviews, it helps a ton. Some modules are easier than others but still keeps you very busy. Be prepared to work or you will not pass.
I wouldn't be surprised if she is a career professor (someone who has never worked beyond the educational system). I say this because she is merciless. You will be expected to complete about 50+ homework assignments (no joke) and it'll only be worth about 10% of your grade. If you work and/or have a family, I would steer away from this mean lady.
The extra credit is a lie! She straight up lies to the class when offering extra credit, none of the "extra credit" earned actually gets added or computed into your grade. I emailed her about and she said "it gets added to my spreadsheet" and canvas won't allow her to adjust grades. Another lie because my exam grade was lowered in canvas
She was the worst at teaching. I get simple mistakes here and there but I was everyday! Then she would mess up on a problem teach us all the way through the long problem then at the end thats not the right answer, tell us the correct answer but WOULDNT show us the correct way to get to the answer. IF YOU CAN DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. E V E R
Barber's teaching style is great. her lecture notes really provide all the information you need to pass the class. I made an A through the semester without the use of a textbook. She definitely has more personality than some of the other teachers at UNT.
This professor is very rigid. I work very hard and I am usually an A student. This semester many of us students have had to work to adapt to the many changes due to the pandemic. However, she has failed to understand the extraordinary situation many of us have had to adjust to. Avoid this professor.
Teacher is terrible, its an online class and she teaches nothing, no problem with this however she just seems to always make it harder and harder for no reason the assignments arent hard just tedious to complete. 2020 and she has us writing on paper and scanning documents. I wonder how UNT Employed her
Im only writing this because calculus is a pointless subject in my field and I took it ONLINE in the summer so I could pass it more easily!(wink wink) Yup thats not the case, tests are split into 2 parts. Written (35pt) and Multiple choice (65pt), plus with a zoom call during the lockdown browser tests. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE IF YOU NEED EASY CREDIT
Amazing teacher. Professor Barber genuinely cares about her students and does everything to help them succeed. Take notes during lecture, do the homework, study for tests and you're good.
AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS! She sucks at teaching, she doesn't drop any low grades for ANYTHING, and she "offered" extra credit after everyone failed her exam because there were things that weren't ever taught in her lectures. I put quotations because even after hand writing a three page essay on derivatives, she won't give you any extra credit.
If you have taken calc in high school, the course will go smoothly. If this is your first time going through Calculus then you will have a hard time.
I loved taking Ms Barbers class! As a student who struggles with math her class was easy to understand and she was helpful.
Barber is possibly the worst professor/teacher I have ever had. She knows calculus well obviously, but she fails to teach her students well. She literally said "I want y'all to struggle" in one of her lectures. She doesn't grade most of the stuff and when she does, she doesn't put any effort in. Most of her class failed the second test.
Knows calc but doesnt teach it well,Teaches as if we all taken the class before, Said in one lecture she wants us to struggle which is evident in how she teaches,Test are not like the lectures or assignments, Dont expect any extra credit and if you cant make her office hours then youre out of luck
I have NEVER taken a class where I did not complete one single assignment. This teacher had an assignment due every single day. In addition to this, she wants us to have a webcam. I have never seen a basic class have so many requirements. Math is my worst subject, and she did not make it any easier especially through this pandemic. DO NOT TAKE
I will NEVER take her class again! Dont get me wrong, she just may not have been my cup of tea. But, this woman is not nice at all! She gives WAY TOO MUCH HOMEWORK! She always calls on the same people in class and its so nerve wracking when she calls your name! Shes not cooperative about grades either! Even if you have a good reason! Avoid her!
Probably the worst teacher on campus, avoid taking her class at any cost. There are 50 pieces of homework but it's only worth 15% of your grade. The 7 exams covers over material she never taught in lessons either. You'll have to be on a hospital bed for her to think twice about redoing the assignments you missed. Can't believe I paid for this.
This woman is by far THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. She locked the grade book for the entire semester so I wasnt able to view my grade at all. Shes not a good teacher at all. In the next round of budget cuts, she should be next to go. This woman was no help to me and my fellow students. I worked so hard in her class only to fail in the end.
Barber was a good teacher for me because she gave us a lot of examples and gave us many options to learn the material. She also gave us the opportunity for extra credit for one of the tests after saying she wouldnt. The final also replaced your lowest test grade. Overall, she was fine but she didnt post the semester grade on canvas just on myunt.
Professor Barbara made this class extremely difficult for me. When I came to her with questions, she went out of her way to make disparaging and discouraging comments. You should have a 100 on all your homework, and Youre wasting your time going to tutoring. Please stay away from this professor.
Mary Ann Barber is the worst professor ever and she is rude. She doesn't allow you to see your grade the entire semester and if you ask her about your grade she will tell you "calculate it yourself" in the most disrespectful way possible. Never ask her questions because she will be passive aggressive and make you feel incompetent. SAVE YOURSELF.
I took the Math 1580 Wintermester. I read a lot of bad things but gave her the benefit of the doubt. There is a lot of homework and if you don't have time to dedicate yourself, you will not pass. The homework is totally on you. Take notes as you go! The test were all multiple choice but muted at the end until after the test date. Overall, not bad.
overwhelming amount of work, rude responses to messages, insists on hand written work which is insane in this age. I was at the tutoring center every few days trying to make sense of what she was teaching and then paid for external tutoring as well. didn't grade on time, no feedback, Unnecessarily difficult. Want to hate Calc? Take this class
I had Barber last spring for MATH 1720. When the class was in person, she was fantastic at lecturing, when the class moved online she was abysmal. She assigns many homework assignment, but they were very easy. The tests were fairly difficult, but not horrible. The hitch is she doesn't give partial credit. She is a sweet person but a bad professor.
I took this class during summer 2020. It was incredibly difficult, and I'm bad at math. I was in her office hours every day and she took the time to help me individually and was very caring. We had a lot of homework and the course took several hours a day. Her videos were very comprehensive and made the class passable, despite the difficult content
She just grades extremely tough
Terrible Prof, No feedback other than to go and learn. Unwilling to work with students who have a tight schedule. If you have the chance to avoid this her, take it.
Class wasnt bad if you have a decent understanding of math. Ms. Barber is pretty detached from the class, Ive never seen what she looks like. HW is through MyLabs and she does guided notes for each chapter. Exams are easier than homework. Sometimes she is very passive aggressive in her emails. Discussion posts are easy
Best math teacher I have ever had! For lack of a better word, she really dumbs the material down so which was essential in my passing this course. Read the chapter before lecture, do the assignment right after class and complete the quizzes for extra credit at the end. Highly recommend if you struggle with math! Application to real-world problems!
She is a great math professor in the sense that she clearly understands the content of the subject. However, we may not easily grasp right away it because of the 'complexity' of the subject. I did not put in enough effort into this class but I should say that she does grade tough and does not approximate final grades (89.9 is still a B) .
Run. She might be the most unreasonable professor there is. I'm a 4.0 student and I can def say she made this class way harder than it should have been simply because of the way she taught it. Don't take her online class
If you take this class please BEWARE. She test heavy on the exams which weigh about 60% so if you want to pass make sure you pass quizzes web assigns etc, if you know your not a good tester because those will make up for your exams. You dont learn and she is very inconsiderate. She feels that her class is your life and she doesnt care. STAY AWAY!
Beware! She is a tough grader and the exams were heavy. She tends to be passive aggressive on her emails and announcements. She disables your grade all semester and wont let you see it until the class ends. Dont take her online class.
Terrible. Does not explain anything properly and expects us to know many things beforehand. CRAZY amounts of homework. Stay away
Barber was not the worst teacher, honestly I would take her again. Attending the lecture is important because she mainly teaches everything in class but there is a fair amount of homework with a required textbook purchase. The homework isn't terrible with the "help me solve this" button! If you do the homework and attend class you will be fine! :)
Terrible Professor. Your going to need to take tests with a camera, audio, and you have to show your phones off every other question. If you dont show your phone youll fail for cheating. You have to set at a desk during exams nothing else.
Where do I begin? She is such an amazing professor! You can't go wrong with Ms. Barber, all you have to do to get the A is put in the work. If you show up to the classes and do the homework, you will definitely pass. She is fairly charming in the lectures, and she really does care that you learn and do well. Textbook is trash, just get webassign.
I definitely couldve study more so my grade is mostly on part. Shes not a bad professor but some of the course work can be confusing, so just pay extra attention to it. One thing that sucked is that the course grade is locked the entire semester, you actually never see what your final grade in the course is. Would take again if this was changed.
Ms. Barber is a fabulous teacher. Yes, you must put effort into this class. Showing up is vital! But she teaches in such a way that makes it super easy to understand. Ive never excelled in math but I ended with a 95% in her course. Exams are easy and fair and she prepares you well!
Ms. Barber is a very kind professor and really cares about the wellbeing of her class. She is also easily distracted and might derail her own lecture for a tangent. I was not a huge fan of the recitation period but that was more on the TA than her. She relied on the TA to teach a fair bit of material and mine was not that good.
I am a non-trad student, and I struggle with math, I chose to take this class online to allow myself time to work through the content in a way that would allow time to understand the material. Terrible decision. The class is laid out day by day rather than week by week, and requires specific logins on any day of the week. Tight schedule? Stay Away!
She is a good Calculus 2 Teacher but Cal 2 is a difficult class. She explains the new material well but there are not as many examples. If you have a question about the material she is able to explain it to you and if she doesn't know she will get back to you. The only downside is that she tends to make small mistakes going over examples.
She posts the notes she's gonna go over and is pretty thorough on what's to be expected on exams and how to tackle all the information. Attendance isn't mandatory, but bonus points on the exams are given if you do. It's a hard class but if you show up, you'll pass. Great prof, and cares a lot about all of her students. Definitely recommend.
I took this class along with the UGMT 1300 lab that went with it, so I had her 5 days a weeks and she was always very respectful and kind to everyone and made sure that we all knew the material I would recommend this course for anyone who is not a math person like me. Do expect lots of homework though
Firstly, she doesn't accept late work, like at all. Ever. But, she does drop the 3 lowest homework grades at the end of the semester. HW is due every other day (all on paper except a few) but it's only hard if you don't pace yourself. I'd definitely get a tutor or study buddy for this class, but overall she was very kind and respectful.
I don't even take her class but have to watch her videos and my head pounds with more and more pain every time I watch a video of her. She explains things in a way that makes you feel like you are a 5-year-old but at the same time makes it as complicated as possible.
Ms Barber was the BEST math professor! took 1580, she made me love math again! i got an A, and was so happy it was all because of her teaching. in person no note paper exams, exam materials provided. online interactive textbook through person mylabs. GO TO CLASS, graded attendance, print all notes and materials to prepare for each lecture. SO FUNNY
Took her Online Calculus course in Summer, as long as you are familiar with Cengage, you will be good! take all the extra credit you can get,
I hate math, but Professor Barber is hilarious. Lots of homework (online), lots of notes (paper), attendance isn't mandatory but she will sometimes give extra credit for it. TAKE ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT YOU CAN GET! With the extra credit, I got an A in math for the first time since my freshman year of high school. Pace yourself and don't get behind
I hate math, no matter what kind, but Professor Barber made it enjoyable. Amazing sense of humor and keeps the class engaged! There is a lot of homework but I feel lime it really prepares for the midterms and finals. You can use an iPad or paper notes for the lecture notes, if you use paper print a few lessons at a time.
Professor is a nice lady, but this course was kind of horrible. Homework ranges from 20 mins to 2.5 hrs each, with 3 assignments weekly. Exam is formatted very differently from it, so it feels unhelpful given the volume of work. Many people dropped from the stress & exams dragging their average down to failure. So glad to be done with this class.
Ms. Barber was the only option for this required class so I stuck through it but I would not recommend taking her class AT ALL. She does not give extra credit, the only "extra credit" was us completing required homework with an A to drop one exam grade (there is 7 exams) and replace it with the final (which is mandatory). A lot of homework.
She's a great professor but very fast paced in my opinion. No late work accepted. Homework due twice a week and sometimes would have 3 assignments due in one day.
This class is very easy, but I got a C for not showing up and taking advantage of the extra credit. You get one or two HW assignments per week(you get a 100 just for doing them), a review before each exam, and 3 or 4 exams with problems similar to the HW. Show up, do the extra credit and you're golden.
This online class was harder than I thought it would be, if you STRUGGLE with math...good luck my guy. If you're relatively good at math then you'll do fine, there's LOTS of homework. Every other day you will have homework and you do have to pay for mylab pearson, it was around 70-75 dollars, there's no way around it. Good luck !!!
Professor Barber taught Business Calc so well. One of the best teachers I've had in college. The only downfall is some of the homework has nothing to do with the tests. She does care about your success and offers ample opportunities for office hours and a lot of review for upcoming tests.
She is very to the point, but it can sometimes come off as rude. I was locked out of the online textbook for homework assignments at 10PM with an assignment due at 11:59PM. Emailed her about saying what happened, just in case I wouldn't get credit for it. She messaged back, denying me credit for my assignment, even though it wasn't my fault.
She never provided me with the information I needed for quizzes and exams, like how to access them. I emailed her from 9am to 9pm and never received a response from her on the day my exam was due. She emailed me back the following day and told me she couldn't do anything because the materials I needed were already provided which they were not.
Prof. Barber is hilarious and engaging, making math enjoyable even for non-math people. Lots of homework but it's worth it - try Unstuckstudy ai for prep alongside the class materials.
If you have the option to choose a different class, I recommend doing so, especially if you're someone who dislikes homework and reading math problems. This course requires purchasing Pearson for homework, which costs about $75, and all tests must be taken with a webcam and lockdown browser. Furthermore, late work is not accepted.

Be prepared to take a lot of notes. Really caring professor, but really tough on grading. Answers emails fast, and accurately. She made math "click", but don't expect her to be your best friend.
I HIGHLY recommend you take any teacher but this one. I learned absolutely nothing from her. The lectures honestly do not do anything to help with the HW nor the exams and when you ask for more help she basically tells you to figure it out as she's stated she's "preparing you for the real world." I basically taught myself in this class.
Not sure how any managed to pass this class with an A or B. Extremely difficult exams that are nothing similar to the lectures she provides. You are better taking this course with any other professor but her. Many students stated they struggled.
If possible, avoid taking a class with this professor. The exams are nothing like the lecture material and the homework is created to be difficult, tedious, and hard to complete on purpose. This professor also doesn't proof
Exams are graded heavily and they aren't anything like exam review. She's has some extra credit but it doesn't help. You have to teach yourself most of the time and if your bad at math it sucks.
Grades extremely hard. The test are way harder then expected. Worst math class I ever taken. Get ready to try to teach yourself.
Professor Barber was an okay professor. Attend class and pay attention to notes and you will do fine. Don't go to her for extra help; she will confuse you more than anything. Highly recommend the math lab!
I'm going to genuinely tweak out bruh I hate this prof so bad Tell me why there is an assignment due like everyday IM TWEAKING NEVER take this professor I swear to god you are a masochist if u wanna take this class DONT TAKE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've never felt the need to go out of my way to write a review about anything, let alone a professor. This has to be THE WORST professor I've ever seen. The notes are long videos reading off the slides. The class is so test heavy, no matter how well you do on any hw or discussion, it means zilch. Just please, do yourself the favor and don't bother.
She acts like this is your only class but is a little humorous. The content of the course itself isn't bad but she assigns an incredible ammount of work.
The class does have a lot of homework per week, but it is never very long or difficult and is just the way the course is designed to give you practice. I am honestly not very good at math, but she has a way of simplifying things in a way that made the course seem very simple. There's so much extra credit also, no reason not to pass with her.
She's decent, doesn't answer any questions the way its asked, usually repeats what she said. Not the worst but could be better.
good teacher but overall I felt target cus of my skin color.
