Impossible! Tests are difficult, extra help isnt worth much

Grading System was unclear. Said one thing turned out to be something completely different.
Overall she was a good professor and the tests were reasonable for a 200 level class. I personally found her annoying, especially her comment of "Practice, practice, practice."
Large ego, grading on papers is random, overall teaching ability is terrible. Stop trying to prove to students that you are smarter than them.
Very confusing grading scheme, was never really clear on how it worked. Very insitant on her knowlege...
Her lectures were very good so make sure you go to class. She tests you on what she says she is going to. Curves her grades a lot and gives lots of hidden extra credit.
I had her for intro to Econ and she was horrible and rude but I took her again in a 300 level class and she was actually very nice and pleasent. I really enjoyed the latter class. Her grading system is just bonkers. Never know if Failing or getting an A.
Best Professor I've ever had. Anyone can benefit from taking her class, she takes a "boring" subject and brings life to it!
Good professor. Passionate about the subject but VERY egotistical. Thinks that she should run our economy because she could do it better than anyone else. Nice, but somewhat difficult tests.
there is not a lot of work involved in the majority of the class. a lot of work should go into the papers and presentation but it can all be done the day before.
She is a nice lady, and she makes everything seem simple for the most part, but her tests are not the best. Part of the test is true false, and she is detirmined to confuse you on them (she said so in class many a time). Class was interesting though, and she gives out random extra credit.
Great teacher, makes it interesting, lots of extra credit ops. Definetly reccomend, only complaint is based soley on 2 midterms and a non-cumulative final.
Great lecturer, everything you need to know for testing is laid out in front of you clear as day, of course whether or not you take advantage of that is up to you. Very much lecture based with reading used as support. Do your work and you'll get an A, highly reccomended.
Tough class in terms of material. She gives you everything you need to know in class (some reading)Interesting lectures, interacts well with the class. READ INSTRUCTIONS she is really big on instructions. Lots of extra credit chances.
She tells funny stories and is a nice woman. As for the subject matter, the layout kinda reminded me of high school. She doesn't tell you too much in advance what to read, but she gives random days off and doesn't usually make you do any work over weekends! Overall, good class.
Kinda crazy and obsessed with dogs. Has hidden extra credit and curves the grades in a good way. You only need 150/300 points in the class to get a C-. Tests are all multiple choice and true false.
she will help you if you go and ask for it, and she doesn't make you feel stupid when she shows you your mistakes
Great professor, a little awkward at times, espeically when she yells practice, practice, practice, but thoroughly explains everything, and makes the topic interesting with stories. Will likely take 207 and any other econ class I can fit into my schedule with her.
Prof Hendryson is GREAT! If you are needing to take Econ, you should take it from her. He tests are very reasonable, and she's really cool. She makes economics interesting! I'm taking her again for 207. You have to study for her tests, but they're not tricky at all.
Makes a potentially boring topic interesting. BUT if you don't test well she only gives 3 tests.... but you only need half the points to get your C-. If you want a grade back in a timely fashion though forget it......still waiting after over a week for the final grade.
She explains things really well. Great for 206/207 classes because you will actually learn the stuff you need to know for the upper level classes. Somee people might say she is mean but if you go to class you will gain a lot from her class.
Great teacher to take, she really understands her matterial. You know exactly what will be on the exams. 3 tolal. curves the grade. Do a little at a time and you dont have to study for tests. I reallly enjoyed the class.
Expects you to do a lot within a month, but after submitting the 1st draft, life is easy. As long as you do your part, you're set.
Professor Hendryson is a very nice lady, if you go to class. Her tests can be tricky, but if you study you won't have a hard time. Go to class and take notes, and do the supplement problems. Plus there is hidden extra credit. If you need help, she is excellent at explaining things. I would highly reccomend her.
Easiest class I ever took in college. Almost everybody got an A. She can be a ****, but most of the class is the students sitting around ****ting. Gives 5 free days a quarter, the students pick which ones. Fun class. Highly recommend.
Class was much more clear than econ 206. Allowed me to understand enough for 309 easily. Good class & professor

Very good teacher. Tells you only what you need to know without drowning you in a bunch of useless information. Gives you excellent preperation for the tests and really tries to help everybody do well and be fair. She also understand exactly where you're coming from as a student...her motto is "everyone acts in their own self interests"...and it's great cause she follows the rule herself. Definitely recomend any of her classes.
Besides the fact that she needs to shave the gotee on her neck, she is a great professor. She likes getting mad at students for little things in class, and drinks the same Diet Coke every day. Nonetheless, you will learn the material if you take her.
Hendryson is great! She explains everything clearly and follows the study guide on her exams. Three exams, each counts for 1/3 of the final grade. Homework is not collected but additional sample problem is a great help for preparing the exams. Make sure you read everything on the blackboard and exam paper coz extra credit is usually given there.
Shes a great lady and is very clear. Is willing to help anybody if in need and is very patient as well. Makes a boring topic such as micro, somewhat entertaining. She tends to be a bit unclear on what she wants on her tests to be exact, and is a bit tedious about labeling but other than that is great.
She's a great professor, helpful in class in giving examples. Maybe a little to easy because there is no collected homework or cumulative exams, so it made me kind of slack. If you aren't good at this subject, you'd probably need someone that cares more about the hw issue otherwise you won't learn.. Although she encourages all students to study.
great profesor
at first i was annoyed with her because she rambles a lot and talks about her dogs. But as the term went on i realized that she is pretty good and is a nice lady. I have also talked to people from other 206 classes and theirs sounds much worse then her class was. She also does not assign hw.
This class was hard because I didn't do the assigned work. You should do the work even if she doesn't grade it.
She knows economics. Period. Ramble or not, she knows her stuff, listen and ask questions. The class is specifically taught to the tests, so study and do the homework.
She talks about herself and her dogs too much. It takes up too much time in the class that could be spent on actual teaching. She is available for extra help though and does know her stuff. The class is hard but just do the reading and go to class and you'll be fine.
Good teacher, hard class. She pretty much does her own thing, and is obsessed with her dogs, but shes pretty funny
This class is awesome. It's interesting, and actually kinda fun--she talks about sports a ton. And it's really not hard, just do what she says and you will get an A. You'd have to be stupid to get less than an A- in this class. She's very helpful too. Take it!!!
Easy, Lots of talk about baseball economics. Half of the class periods are presentations. She talks about her dogs a lot, and likes to cancel class whenever she is given an excuse. Do what you are assigned and this class should not be hard for you. No tests, only a presentation (in a group) and a paper (outline, draft, final)
Hendryson is hands down the one of the best profs I have had yet at western. She is both entertaining and easy to understand. I would encourage anyone taking 207 or 206 to fight nail and tooth to get in her class. Make sure you go to class because it is defiantly in your best interest.
Incredibly nice, clear, helpful, approachable. The class isn't very difficult simply because she is so good at teaching it, not because she goes easy.
you don't have to be stupid to get less than an A- in this class, you just have to disagree with her once and she'll blacklist you for the rest of the quarter. no joke. this class was absolute **** if you actually want to learn something useful (other than sports economics). perfect class if you'd like to pretend you're in high school again.
I liked her class a lot. The lecture is clear and fun. This was the first time to take ECON class, but I enjoyed it. Take this class!
Class is fun. Lectures are clear and simple. Reading compliments the lectures, not a substitute. Class is often let out early and or canceled weeks before, but 4 credits of information was transfered to the students over the quarter. Tests are 90% knowledge learned in class. The last 10% is seeing beyond what you already know.
I'm shocked at all the positive responses. I strongly disliked the class. She didn't show up for class several times, talkes about her dogs, and generally wastes time not doing anything. She's not too hard, but the tests were a little confusing
Nice professor, good class. Very clear about expectations (and her expectations are very reasonable). She's a good lecturer (entertaining and informative), so as long as you do your work and come to class, there's no reason not to do well.
class isn't too hard, as long as you show up and do the work and study all the problems and answers she gives. she's frustrating in that she doesn't show up to class all the time, same with her office hours. she's pretty entertaining even if she is opinionated. i learned a lot in the class regardless
Very clear about what she wants you to know, very fair. You will learn a lot about the world and economics in this class. has very helpful study guide to help on her tests, grades on a curve.
very nice and approachable. come to class take notes and do problems and you will do fine. fair teacher!
This is quite possibly the best professor @ Western. She is so entertaining and know's her stuff backwards and forwards. She is highly opinionated which is half the fun of the class, just remember that "Economic is the study of the allocation of scarce resources over competing and alternative uses." -Hendryson
Pretty good teacher. Shes a little wierd, but a good teacher. Go to class, take notes, and read the text. Kind of hard class, but if you do that you'll do fine. Oh and she is really willing to help.
She is very helpful in clarifying things. She is extremely weird-but she knows that so it's all good!
Really Really easy to talk with and very good at clarifying and helping you with just about anything. Extremely helpful when you're struggling with anything. Will go out of her way to help. Was great to have her for the smaller lab sections because she went slower than Dupont and showed things on the board. She's pretty weird but she knows it!
she was the worst professor ive had at western. she treats people in class like they are dogs, i dont know how there are positive ratings of her. she is extremely annoying to listen to and wastes alot of class time. its better to just read the book than go to her class.
Be sure to read the book carefully or you're pretty much SOL. Tests have a ton of trick questions/obscure book references, so if you're not on your A game in that department you're in trouble. I'd definitely take macro with a diff prof if I had it to do again
She kept it interesting and fun. You could tell she really enjoyed her job, which made me really enjoy the class!
I am currently taking Econ 206 but decided to give Prof. Hendryson an early rating because she is such a great Prof. She is interesting and is easy to listen to. Our class goes for an hour and forty min. and I lose focus. She knows her topic, knows how to teach it, and tells you exactly what's important. (she loves her dogs too)
I accidently rated the easiness of the class as a 2. It is easier than that if you go to class and take notes. Anyone who didn't like her class probably talked while she was talking (she will call you out) or disagreed with her views. (She is opionated but it's all in fun) It's not a debate class.
if it wasn't for hendryson being such an amazing teacher i'm sure i would fail economics. she is very clear of the topics and what she is going to put on the test. she is so helpful i would recommend her to anybody that doesn't understand econ! she is super nice, Fantastic professor! she's really funny too
I'm taking her this quarter- She has a great sense of humor, explains things super well, great teacher! She makes it fun, I wasn't considering the major before her class.
A two hour class, and she spends 40 minutes talking about completely useless information. ie her dogs, how to study, and her clearly conservative opinions.
Professor Hendryson was absolutely amazing!! She was a bit crazy about her dogs, but that just made the class fun. For an introductory class, I feel like it was pretty easy. She does a very good job of explaining concepts and providing examples and applications of them. Take any class from her!!
She is a real fun professor and makes the class fun to attend, definitely one of the best econ teachers we have. P.S be ready to listen to dog show stories ha ha
She is a very staight forward teacher. The book she uses is very clear also. Plus she gives extra credit- READ HER DIRECTIONS. I'm sorry if you don't like Economics but take her class because she will help you get through it.
I hate economics and she is such a great professor for an entry level economics class. The tests are hard but she is very clear on her lectures and she offers extra credit. She is very nice and I enjoyed her class, she's pretty funny too.
Work hard and you'll do fine. the dog stories are just used to break up the class time. Who really wants to talk about economics for two straight hours?
loved, loved, LOVED her!! yes she talks about her dogs a lot and tends to get off topic a lot, but it makes the class more enjoyable!! She does it to keep your attention!! attendance not mandatory but she gives extra credit if you show up! tests not too difficult as long as you do the additional sample problems! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Hendryson is probably one of the best in the Economics department. If you study in her class, it should be easy enough. She will give plenty of opportunities for extra credit. If you study exactly like she tells you to, you will do fine on her exams. And the best part, you will actually learn and be interested into economics.
I took her for econ 206/207 and I LOVE HER! She is really interesting and lectures are awesome! If you do sample problems you will do good on tests. She made me love economics so much that I'm majoring in it! DON'T TAKE ECON FROM ANYONE ELSE!
Hard teacher and gives too many trick problems on the tests. She wants you to do poorly. Talks about dogs too much. Attendance is mandatory. She gives extra credit that helps. But your grade is based off 3 tests that are really hard. Take someone else.
I have no idea how she got so many good reviews. In a one hr and 20 min class we cover 20 min of econ. She talks about her conservative views too much. Class starts and ends with stories about her dogs. She knows her stuff, but class is a WASTE OF TIME even though it helps to go b/c she rates topics depending on how they will show up on exams.
uggh. thought this class would be awesome but she just pissed me off more and more throughout the quarter. Way too opinionated and closed minded, barely teaches at all (relies on student presentations, which you can't skip) and she was lazy. Took forever to return work. Unreliable! waste of my time!
My first year at Western and by far Mrs Hendryson is the worst teacher this term. She invests most of the classtime talking about her own political opinion or her dogs. She has the most conservative world view imaginable and is not shy of telling class about it. Her tests are far from easy. I don't recommend her at all!
Mary Ann is an awesome prof! She does a great job explaining and giving examples of the tough concepts she lectures on. I enjoy her lectures and her tests are fair, but tricky. Read the book and be ready to hear some random stories in class. Great prof!
She is a hard professor with her tricky tests and your grade is based off three tests. She can be funny. Hey people, you say you dont like her conservative reviews... we'll people dont like your democratic ideas in class.
She legitimately talks about her dogs for half the class everyday but she is a very good teacher. Very easy to understand, and her lectures are very straightforward. Exams (MC & a few work problems) are tricky... but DO THE ADDITIONAL SAMPLE PROBLEMS b/c they are pretty much exactly what's on the exam. Grade based on 3 exams and a little bit of EC.
Kind of crazy, weird lady but I kind of really liked her. Sure she talks about dogs a lot, but it serves as a great break inbetween an economics lecture. Gives tons of reading and problems for homework and is very tough and specific when grading tests. Grade is based on 3 tests so you have to work pretty hard to do well.
I adored this class and this professor. She goes off topic sometimes but they always serve as a good break during her lectures. She's very clear on what is important and the lectures are easy to understand. Tests can be challenging but you'll know what to expect. Go to class, read your book, study a bit and you'll be fine. Also, practice!
she was a good professor and taught the class really well, but the tests require absolute mastery of all of the material, which can hurt since my class required 95% for an A, out of three 100 point tests. i wouldn't take this class unless economics runs in your veins.
One of the best professors I've had at WWU. She is very clear and doesn't overload you with material. Throughout the quarter she will cancel a few classes. None of the homework is graded. I did most of it, but it probably isn't necessary to get an A. Tests aren't tough as long as you study notes from lecture and do the review questions.
Great teacher and class. She likes to get off topic and has strong opinions, but she's very enjoyable. She never tries to trick you and tells you exactly what you need to know so go to class. Extra credit is hidden in places so make sure you read everything she gives you. Take econ from her!!
She is a great professor for ECON 207. I had a rather dreadful experience with ECON 206, and Professor Hendryson has been amazing! She isn't going to give you an A, but if you work for it, you'll be capable of getting it.
Hendryson is a good teacher and makes everything clear and makes it a point to answer all questions. She always offers trick extra credit so always check blackboard and READ ALL DIRECTIONS ON TESTS! All in all, the tests are challenging but doable if you study and read the book.
I don't know how anybody could say she is a good prof. She knows her stuff but barely spent any time teaching the actual subject, she was opinionated and rude about it. I dreaded going to class everyday and I love econ, I'm an econ major and she almost made me change my major. WORST CLASS I HAVE TAKEN AT WESTERN.
Professor Hendryson seems to know her subject, but spent most of the class talking about her dogs or talking about unrelated issues. If you need a professor to learn the subject I would avoid her at all costs because most of your information will come from the book
I don't really understand why people complained so much about her talking about her dogs... it wasn't off topic it actually helped you understand the subject better! she's super friendly and wants you to succeed. good amount of EC offered (read directions!) you do have to study and do her practice problems.. if you do you'll do great!
super friendly, at times it seems like shes off topic but it always amazes me how it gets connected back to microeconomics
So she talks about her dogs a lot, but it's over all not a bad class. It's a fairly hard subject and you'll have to put your own time in to learn it but at least you wont be falling asleep in class everyday. Plus, she lets you out early quite a bit and cancels class as well.
great lecturer. clear in expectations, and learning objectives, but very... quirky. to the point. digress sometimes and talks about her dogs. she offers alot of extra credits. buy her version of the book. it's worth the money and has free study guide.
Hendryson does a pretty good job of teaching econ. She knows a lot about what she's talking about, although for a portion of the class each day she talks about random stuff that doesn't really relate. The multiple choice setup of her tests make them harder than they should be. She is really helpful outside of class though if you need it.
I like the way she lectures. Yeah, it does get a bit off topic but it keeps it interesting. I also like that she encourages questions even tho I was def shut down a couple of times. The tests are hard and she throws in a couple trick questions. I didnt like that she seemed lazy beings how she doesnt give homework because she doesnt want to grade.
the first three weeks were agonizing! She says one thing she wont do is waste class time, and thats exactly what she does, repeating stories of her past. After that she is a great lecturer, clear and the tests are reasonable but its really easy to lose a lot of points if one part confuses you.
She did have lots of personal stories and did seem to waste class time. She was a great teacher when she did finally start teaching though. The class is not particularly hard, but beware of her tests. Multiple choice does not mean they are easy. The average for our class was a C meaning that more people got C's then anything else. A's are hard.
AWESOME econ proff. she knows her material and makes it CRYSTAL CLEAR what is going to be on the tests. she randomly offers extra credit too!! when she lectures on the actual material, its very good but does randomly get off topic about her dogs.overall good class though! i would take her again if i needed more econ classes. oh and get her textbook
Hendryson is a hard professor, but she really knows her stuff. She doesn't use technology, just the whiteboard; makes it easy to keep track of what she's gone over in the period. she does get off topic a bit, but it's nice to get that break. also her off topics usually relate to the economy somehow and helps you see the big picture. great prof!
I recommend this class/teacher, for anyone who wants to want to go to class. Without going to the lectures, there's no need to sign up for this particular class because material is material. But I enjoyed the class because of how she taught it.
Really really nice prof, but lectures are soooooo boring. So boring. She rambles forever and you don't learn a lot.
She's a really nice teacher and makes class time interesting because she is so funny. I've never laughed so much in a class. But she does tend to get off topic and as far as the class goes it can be hard because you're only graded on tests and they can be difficult. Whatever the class average is for the test, she makes that a C.
Overall I liked her class. First of all, if you don't wanna hear about her dogs, don't take her class. She'll rant about stuff but its a nice break. She is funny and makes the material easy to understand. The tests are difficult though so be warned, but as long as you read the book and do her study problems, you should do fine
Good enough teacher, you can tell she wants you to succeed, the course is just difficult. Go to class and participate for extra credit (this one guy even got a bunch of free stuff for volunteering)
Hendryson is a very nice person and her class can be entertaining but she her class is kind of scattered, she doesn't have a calendar and you don't know your curved grade until the end. It is almost impossible to know what she is going to ask on a test and this class made me strongly dislike economics.
I recommend taking Hendryson's class. I had no desire to take Econ before but now I am considering it as a major.
I was failing her class because I couldn't get to class with my own personal stuff going on and she helped me get caught up and pass the course in two weeks while keeping my sanity. She is funny in class and a very kind person. Even if you don't get in her class, ask her for help with scheduling or with stress or just life in general-she is awesome
I like her as a person, not as a teacher. She will go on SO many tagents every single day. She gets so off course that you can't retain anything she's taught you in a day and it never has anything to do with what gets put on the tests. I would recommend Econ, just not her as a teacher.
She is very knowledgeable and has a lot of examples that make the class easy to understand. I wouldn't recommend buying the book though because its very expensive and it isn't necessary. She is very funny and easy going as long as you follow the classroom rules; no electronics of any kind. Some people think that isn't fair but they need to grow up.
Mary Ann is a very organized professor. Her lectures are very useful and are exactly what are on the test. I really enjoyed having her but her tests are pretty hard. Easy to get a B in the class very difficult to get an A. ALWAYS volunteer for extra credit.
I liked Mary's course. I took Econ 206 for summer quarter. She breaks the material down in a way that is understandable and unabstract. The way she uses examples when explaining material is great. All problems are presented exactly the way she wants them on exams and how she expects you to learn them. Overall, good straight forward course.
She is clear about the non-controversial stuff but she will get onto tangents and extremely laissez-faire in her point of view which shows in her class. Make sure you do your own research on her tangents, especially where she claims Canadians prefer America's health care! Like any class, if she makes an unsubstantiated claim, do your own research.
She has a clear and organized way of presenting lecture material, her opinions and rants take away too much from the course. Her study guides and tests find a way to push her political and social opinions on the material for a grade. She is harsh to students when they ask questions and talks down to you if she doesn't like your major. VERY BAD.
Great professor; also very funny and chill. Anyone who says she doesn't make what is going to be on the test is just not listening/checking canvas. If you do the reading and chapter problems and additional sample problems you should be able to know what on the test. She throws in some curve balls but if you really know your stuff, you can get an A
This is not an easy course. And it is not easy to get an A. But if you make an effort and go to her office hours, Mary Ann will give you information about the exams and she will help you succeed. Do not take this course if you want an easy A. Her tests are very difficult, but she offers many extra credit opportunities.
I would not recommend her. I would love to learn more about Econ, but she is too busy talking about her dogs and other events going on in her life. Literally, half an hour before every class she will ramble about something highly irrelevant. The book helped more than she did. When she wanted to teach she was good, but I felt as if she didn't care.
I would not recommend taking her. The difficulty of her class alongside her 30min or more rants about her dogs, obamacare, taxes, bottled water ban and all her other political beliefs made this class exceptionally frustrating.
She is a very blunt professor. All jokes aside about her physical unhealthiness, she does a good job teaching the topic. She loves to throw curveballs on the tests. She tells you what's on the tests so study that and practice variations. Read everything all the way through for possible extra credit opportunities
Professor is very kind. I am pretty sure I got like, a D on more than one exam and still managed to get a B- in the class somehow. Learned a lot.
Sure, she gets the point across to you, but you have to listen to her talk about her opinions and stories for the first hour of class then cram in your notes for the last 20 min. Hated her teaching style. Could have read the textbook on my own and learned more than I did listening to her "lectures" if you can call them that.
She's hard. If you can take a different prof, do it. I got an A with no interest in econ, just pay attention. Yes she talks a LOT about completely irrelevant stuff and will waste your time, then expect you to know what'll be on the test and WILL try to trick you. Go to class anyway since the book is terrible. Watch out for the hidden extra credit.
Try to take another professor. She doesn't use her time efficiently in class and can be overly harsh on people for no reason. I have never had such trouble with a professor in my life. Before this class I was very interested in econ but now I honestly have lost that interest.
Tough exams, but she tells you what is on them for the most part. She has a strange grading system, and strange class policies. She treated my class like we were all high schoolers. Very flexible teacher- if you can't take an exam and let her know beforehand you can reschedule. My favorite part of hr class was she didn't have a cumulative final!
Do not take a class with this professor. She is very nice and explains things pretty well when she lectures, the only problem is that she spends about 5 minutes talking about econ. Literally 5 minutes per class, while the rest of the time she talks about herself. She expects way too much on her tests for what she is teaching in class.
Awesome laid back prof. Talks to you like a real person not an underling
She is a nice person. However, when it comes to her teaching style it is hard to adapt the first few days and after that you learn to love her. Sometime when there is not much to teach she will only each for 30 mins of Econ then go on lecturing about life. You learn more if you go to class also she give out extra credit. Don't argue with her.
This was the worst class I've ever taken and only because of the instructor. She was unclear and never on topic during her hour and a half long lectures.
Shes a love or hate teacher. She is her own type of person. Hopefully she comes back take her classes. Shes great at econ teaching, but not really much else but that makes her funny. fair grader too.
One of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Go for help everyday because she has high expectations and the tests are NOT easy. She does give out some extra credit which helps but she can be difficult to relate to and can make you feel like an idiot.
