The Professor is great, and class is fun and not boring at all.
She is very personable and educated on the subject. She has experience not only as a psych professor, but as a therapist as well and has some really interesting and funny stories to share. She can be a bit disorganized, but if you are an organized person, you can work around that, no problem.
Massoglia is a very helpful teacher, she pay attention to each student, she has lot of experiences, do your assignment, read your course syllabus, please be on time in class then you won't bother others students. Her class is a easy A. I love her and recommend to everyone.
Great teacher, well organized. Just be sure to keep up with the syllabus. It may seem overwhelming at first since a majority of the coursework is handed out on the first day, but as long as you dont procrastinate you'll do just fine.
Today is my last day in this class as it was a summer session and I will miss Ms. Massoglia very much. She's a GREAT professor and she knows her stuff. She had lots of great stories, and is very funny. Not boring at all. She is very helpful when you have questions and be sure to read the textbook. You will not pass unless you read the textbook.
Love this teacher, she's amazing! Definitely knows her stuff and keeps the class engaged. For me this was an easy A, but beware: tons of writing, reading, and homework. Just don't procrastinate or cut corners and you'll do fine.
Professor was extremely helpful and made the material easy to follow. She related the material to real life and incorporated a variety of learning styles which made it easier to learn . I enjoyed her class and would love to have her again in the future.
She is a very hard teacher. Doesn't expect to get away with anything. She is excellent in her field. She makes the subject come easy but you must study. Be prepared to work for your grade but it is worth it.
I HAD A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE WITH MS MASSOGLIA,I RECOMMEND HER ANY TIME,BECAUSE SHE RELATES HER TEACHINGS TO REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE,SHE IS JUST THE BEST,YOU CAN NEVER SLEEP IN HER CLASS BECAUSE ITS SO INTERESTING.
She is really good. Worth your time and money. You will never be bored and she makes the class interesting and fun!
She is the best professor. She's fair and so thoughtful. It is important to read the books and do your work but it's not even hard work. Can't wait to have her for HMDV200. :)
She is very helpful when you go by her office. She makes learning easy. Definately a good choice.
Best professor I've had! Super helpful, energetic, sweet, funny, definitely a morning person, but the class overall is great! I recommend this professor to anyone and everyone.
she is the best. she understands individual needs and always willing to help with anything. you definately have to study for your grade but she makes the course easy and interesting to study.
This instructor is awesome. She makes the lecture interesting and fun. She is more than willing to help you if needed.
She is amazing, helps you with anything you ask for. Has a lot of experience, so she fits in the class. Uses the textbook a lot (mandatory). Doesn't like if you are late, either way your not suppose to be late because you signed up to the class and paid for it. Overall, she is truly an amazing professor!
Such a great teacher, she really loves her job. Very willing to help students in all aspects, a genuine good person! Her class taught me a lot about life, and she was able to get students to work together and discuss!
I loved Ms. Massoglia's class. She always looks out for your. She also loves telling stories of her children, life, etc. I find that she is an outstanding professor and I HIGHLY recommend her for students at Howard Community College
Its easy if you read the book, listen in class, and follow directions. If you cannot do these three simple things the class will be difficult. She spends a lot of time on one topic so if you have a question by all means ask it or have an idea that pertains to the topic share it with the class. Like I said above the textbook is going to be a friend.
Really nice lady. She offers alot of extra credit and really wants you to do well. Definitely take her
She's an amazing teacher, leads great discussions, and really cares about each individual and what she is teaching.
Amazing teacher! Has great experience
Ms. Massoglia was one of the most helpful teachers I've had. She is almost always able to give examples for concepts, and often from experience. For anyone looking to take a General Psychology class, she does a great job.
PAY ATTENTION TO HER WHATEVER SHE SAYS WILL BE ON THE QUIZZES AND ALSO READ BUT SHES AN AWESOME PROFESSOR
I really enjoyed this class. She is an amazing teacher and she really knows what she is talking about. I would recommend taking her for any class!
This was probably the most helpful professor I've had. She was always very clear in her explanations, and was consistently available to ask questions. She had a lot of experience, and she was able to provide examples for just about every single topic that we covered. I honestly recommend her class over any other class at Howard Community College.
I was very satisfied with this professor. She is helpful and she lets you know that she is there to help you. She made what could have been a very boring course very interesting. Don't think you can sit in this class and not be a part of what is happening. She is inclusive. By the way, being on time is mandatory!
very involved in class discussions
A very nice lady. She does her best to make sure that the topics are understood. Lots of class activities. Listen and ask questions if you do not understand. Make sure you are on time and do not disrupt the class.
Ms. Massoglia is a great professor.I took her class in the Summer and we covered so many things. She could give examples for almost everything and has a lot of experience. She really wants everybody to be involved and offers a lot of help.I would always recommend her.Be sure to be on time. She is a professor who really cares about her students!
Ms. Massoglia is a very informative helpful teacher. She can come off as very strict, but once you become apart of her class and participate she becomes more likable. She does not like people to be late. If you work hard and try hard in her class you will succeed.
I loved her!!! She is an awesome teacher and extremely smart! I wish she would teach at UMD! Highly recommend her!
She likes helping students when they are confused. You should study hard for quizzes, midterm exams, and final exams. Reading the textbook will be very helpful when studying for quizzes and tests. The professor does not give study guides, so it was hard to know what to study for. Although I did not do well on tests, I ended with an A.
very strict attendance, if you get to the class even ONE minute late she won't accept your assignment and will count you late... ridiculous
Amazing teacher, Do the reading and you'll pass easily. It's a lot but it's worth it. She's wonderful and so helpful whether you're having trouble in the classroom or at home. Helps and students with housing problems; how awesome is that!?
Mrs. Massoglia is a very attentive and thoughtful teacher, and helps students with any questions they have about the curriculum. I had some problems turning assignments in online, and she thoroughly assisted me in submitting them. Class is very text-book based, and you have to be in class if you want to get a good grade. Don't slack in her class!
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST PROFESSOR! you should know psych is a writing intensive course and this class WILL be hard if you don't try. you must do all your work to pass and attendance is MANDATORY! but prof. massoglia is one of a kind. you'll regret not taking this course with her!i absolutely loved every single one of her lectures.
This class wasnt easy but if you go to class and read the textbook youll do fine. Shes a wonderful teacher who really has a heart of gold. You can tell she has dedicated her life to helping people which is very inspiring. BE ON TIME TO CLASS. I dont know why the is so freaking hard for people, but she hates it. If youre taking this course- get her.
She is a professor that truly cares about her students and overall the well being of people. She relates her life to the study and listening to them made class a lot more interesting. Attendance is important and I don't why people wouldn't want to come. Do her papers correctly, prepare for the quizzes and you will get a deserving grade. ENERGETIC.
You will use your text a lot . Lectures can be dry at times.
Very unhelpful, got sick during the semester and missed a couple of weeks of class and refused to let me makeup work and test that I missed, because of this I was forced to drop the class. Attendance is also crazy strict, like others have said one minute late and you can't turn in homework or sometimes take a test.
PLEASE TAKE MULITCULTURAL PSYCHOLOGY!! By far the best course I have EVER taken, it changed how I viewed life and it was super fun, too! The teacher is very forward and will tell you like it is, it just takes getting used to. The information she gives you is mind-blowing and will make you question things. Easy class, she will make sure you get an A
I personally thought she was a very supportive teacher who knows a lot about psychology. She is willing to talk to anyone about anything you discuss in class or even about your personal life. However, she gets easily distracted and hates when you show up late to class (don't even bother coming if you'll be late). Such a great course despite that.
One of the best classes ever. I loved her and how she taught. I took the winter coarse so it was truly difficult but she made it easier and made class a fun place to be. She has a different teaching style. Have her in spring for lifespan and can't wait to have her again. There needs to be more teachers like her!!!
Be even thirty seconds late to class she'll mark you late, it's very high school and quite ridiculous considering the parking at HCC is horrendous. We are all grown adults in this class we should be treated as such. Lectures aren't bad, a lot of stories about her life. They're interesting.

punctuation is highly recommend. she has power points and flash cards that are helpful just for quizzes. It is very hard to read about 50 pages for one chapter and exams are really difficult. she can help you to understand the course if you go to her office and do what she wants you do as she wants. Psych is supposed to be fun but it was not at all
Absolutely loved her AND her course! I didn't expect to learn so much in 12 weeks. Great teacher with a love for her students and psychology. Her door is always open if you need someone to talk to, very approachable. Class is designed for students to pass, very hard to fail her class. Don't be late, but if you are, don't panic, not more than 2x.
She's a great instructor. Sometimes not the best techno-savy. Overall she's pretty great. She definitely knows what she's talking about. She really cares about her students and their education! I recommend her for Life Span Development
Professor Massoglia is an amazing professor! She knows what she's teaching, quizzes are fair and homework is reasonable. She can be a little blunt sometimes, but never mean. Her lectures aren't boring because she makes them relatable. Just make sure you respect her and keep up with the assignments and you'll be fine.
Please take Multicultural Psychology. Her class is amazing. It's not a hard class, she will make sure you get an A. This class has been life changing. She's very straightforward of what she expects, don't be late. You will write but it's very manageable but 200% satisfactory class. You won't regret it has a twist to it.
Hands down the best professor you can get! You won't want to miss this class because the material is so interesting. She presents the information in a way that is relatable so not only is it useful but it's easy to remember. Definitely would take again if I could!!! Do your homework and read the textbook and you should be fine
She was very clear and helpful to the class by tying her own life experiences as examples. She is super nice. She made everything easy to understand. She also does a lot of helpful activities to help us more. I wish I had her class again! I took her winter session and wish every teacher was like her. NO REGRETS FOR TAKING HER CLASS. Be on time!
best teacher so far hands down, she gives you the resources you need to pass her class and her lectures are too interesting because she relates content based on her personal experiences. if your taking psychology or any thing related to this course. SHE'S THE TEACHER YOU WANT TO GET!
She will help you in her best of her ability and try to help you get best grade as possible. well that is if you do your part. Read and listen closely and sit at front and you shall reap the benefit and be on time and listen you will learn and gain insight. If you dont, prepare for fire and brimstone of getting that wonderful failing grade
Very good teacher. She won't tell you in class that you can come to her, but if you do, she will definitely help you. Does not use technology very often. Always pay attention to the lectures. Dry sense of humor and has lots of stories related to the topic.
she is the best!!!!!!!!!!!! fyi if you don't do your part you wont pass, if you do your part its an easy
Grading was fair, lecture was thorough, brings class together to actually get to know each other through group activities . Took her summer 15
This was by far the best teacher I've ever had my whole college experience I would definitely recommend her!
Amazing teacher, she's tough on grading and her test are hard so be ready to read your book and know it, however she is fair in grading and prepares you really well on what to expect on quizzes and test. Class participation counts, she is unbiased and respects everyone so class discussions/debates are awesome not one is left feeling judged.
I would not recommend taking this class. The teacher was very discouraging this semester. I've had her for other classes, but this one was horrible. The format changed twice during the semester and it was very confusing what was due and expected of you. Wait to take this at your four year school, it won't transfer any way. Don't take this class.
Wonderful environment to be in
Thoroughly enjoyed the class. Good material and lectures. Only issue was there were too many cancerous students that made it toxic environment and many people who did not do well was due to no show and no homework and no participation. Too many saltiness and lacking responsibility. Enjoyed class did not enjoyed classmate. Class: 10/10 Mates: -10/10
10/10 Will take again
Took this class after taking PSYC101. Changed many perspective of the world and learned much from it. I personally learn so much more about my heritage after being in this class. One thing is you really have to read the materials to do well in this class and come to class and you will be able to get an A. She asks students to come for help.
The class curriculum wise is interesting, you learn a lot from it; the class itself is discouraging. She responds negatively when some pseudo expectation is not met. The set up is very inconsistent, expect a lot of last minute announcements and unclear assignments. The class substance wise is great, her teaching style not so much. Save your GPA.
She is one of the best professors I have ever had. You must do all of the assignments and come to class, but the lectures are interesting and she cares about her students. She is fair.
The semester just began but I love the course already!
Really great teacher, as long as you put forth effort in her class you will pass.
She tells a lot of stories, but they are related to the lectures she gives. There is a lot of note taking, so you better be prepared to write them all cause there is a lot. Her class isn't that hard cause her assignments are not as difficult as say English papers. I would love to take another class with her.
Amazing professor, really good teacher with really good stories that help you understand the class!
Was a wonderful class where she puts in a lot of personal stories to help you understand the course material. Her tests make you really read the text book but then she will go over and help you find the relevant information in it in class and answer all the questions you have.
Important to read textbook chapters as she assigns them so you can participate in the class. Your grade is an accurate reflection to the amount of effort you put into the class. Make sure your are on time so be aware if you decide to take the 8am class.
As long as you don't turn in late work or miss class you won't have any problems. She grades reasonably and if you pay attention in class and read the textbook you'll definitely pass.
Offers great examples of use in real life, mentions her open door policy all the time, not too much work but not too little, work isn't that hard though as long as you have an idea of the book subject. Come to class and bring your textbook.
The class overall is good. The teacher is good at teaching, the assignments are a decent amount, reading is required (1 week per chapter), online homework and class work, have had only a mid-term exam and final exam. The concept is easy but it isn't as simple as not reading and passing the exams.
She is one of the best professors I have ever had. She makes psychology easy to understand by incorporating stories into her lecture and let's people participate with their own stories or questions. You will use the textbook a lot but she doesn't give you a lot of work. She is very straightforward & tells you everything you need to do on first day.
Her lectures are mostly stories about her life in the field of psychology so it is easy to learn topics.. great class, but don't miss any of the online assignments
Each lecture is guaranteed to have a story from her life to go with it and this helped with understanding course material.
She is a great teacher, and uses lots of real life examples and relevant personal experience to expand upon the course material. The class is incredibly interesting, and full of relatable content that can be applied to everyday life. I'm an engineering major, and I am glad I took this class. There's more to take away from it than just an A.
Whoever gave Massoglia a bad review probably just didn't do their assignments; she is an amazing prof! She gives a lot of homework but it really helps you understand the material & receive lots of points to bump up your grade. Her door is always open for academic or personal talk & she has a ton of personal stories to go with what we are learning.
She's an amazing professor. Explains material very well, gives short stories with each topic, sometimes videos just for the students to understand. The class is tough, but if you do the exercises and other extra credit, you are bound to pass. She's approachable, nice and want all her students to succeed. Very particular about paper and time.
I would recommend Massoglia 11/10 times. She is so nice and funny. Her biggest pet peeve is students coming in late and if you do, she'll make you sit in the front of the room. Other than that, she is so funny and a great professor.
She explains the topics very well. She tells lots of stories which makes the class very interesting. Has a good sense of humor. Homework isn't hard, but a lot of reading. She's a great professor overall.
Awesome professor best I've had so far. HATES when you're late otherwise great course. Read your textbook and do online work and you should pass.
Great teacher
I loved the class but, it was my fault I didn't pass
Mary Ann Massoglia is very helpful teacher for psychology course which requires better understanding by comparing the topics with real life examples. Be on time and maintain participation and attendance which will be beneficial for any course like this course.
She's a good teacher
Awesome professor, really nice and caring, she really knows what she is talking about and is very enthusiastic about her work. Pet peeve would be showing up late to class
Ms. Massoglia is an EXCELLENT Professor. You will absolutely adore her. I did :)
As long as you attend class regularly and complete your assignments on time, you'll easily earn an A in her class!!
Make sure you show up. For my psych101-909 class, there are 144 points for showing up and being on time, which is worth more than anything by itself.
She was a good professor, she loves to tell stories which are very interesting.
She gives a lot of amazing stories that help you remember what you are trying to learn.
Great class!
She is incredibly funny and understanding. Her class is very easy and her lectures are filled with jokes and great explanations. Would definitely recommend her, I looked forward to going to her class every day.
She talks a loooooot, so if you can take this class twice a week instead of once a week(3hrs) please do!! Overall, she's too funny and always have interesting stories.
What makes her really great is how caring she is. She is always willing to go out of her way to help students. She always tries to prepare students for the future. This class wasn't easy but Massoglia makes the class interesting with her stories!
Best class I have ever taken. The lectures are interesting.
I took a winter class with her. I am glad I did! Ha the midterm tonight and I think I made a good grade. TAKE HER! You won't be sorry.
I took her class during winter semester so it was a tough course. But she was a really good professor.
Ms. Massoglia is a very fair teacher, she provides plenty of opportunities for extra credit but does not bend from her protocol. You get what you get so she will not round your grade, but you get out what you put in plus some.
DO NOT BE LATE!
Ms. Massoglia is really fair. She takes no BS but still cares about her students. She tells the best stories and really makes you think
If I have a last hour to live, I would have chose to be in her class for sure. She is just awesome. I had a anger issue before taking this class, and she helped me with that and now I am much less angrier than before. She always helps you with stuffs which is out of the class. I got to know about my dreams and why I am seeing those in real.
Don't take her during summer or winter.
SHE IS A GREAT TEACHER
Summer classes are really fast paced but I did well because Massoglia helped all of us make the best possible grades. I would definitely take her again.
I always knew what was expected and my grade. She graded homework and papers quickly like within a day. And she helped me become a better student.
Great Teacher! Although some of her material covered sensitive topics and she shared her opinions on some topics, she was open to listening to the class and understanding other view points. If you take this class, you may leave on the last day with a more open mind set.
I loved her personality, she has a lot of stories that she incorporates into the class to make it more relatable. A HUGE stickler for tardiness- don't be even 1 min late. Keep up with the textbook and participate in class and you should be fine. She is heavy on posting announcements to communicate with the class through the semester so always check
My semester with her started out rough, but after a few weeks, it got really good. I did not read the textbook much (except for a few assignments) because her lectures were great and gave you everything you'd need to know. Would definitely recommend taking her.
I love her!!!! At first her teaching style needed some getting used to, but once the semester went on I learned to really appreciate it. Her stories are awesome. If you pay attention in class and do your work you'll be fine!!!!!!
She does not cater to the needs of challenged students and not sensitive to different learning styles. Does not employ other ways to facilitate learning. If you are more of brawn than a brain, you better look for another professor who can bring out the best in you.
Professor Massoglia is an excellent professor! Uses real-world examples to explain concepts covered in class. Stickler for being on-time. Likes lots of participation to facilitate discussions.
Massoglia was amazing. She took time and helped each student understand the course. Couldn't have made the grade I did without her. Take her. You won't be sorry.
She scared me at first because she was in the army, so very strict- Dont be a minute late. Tests are VERY fair, not too hard if you study at all. Interesting life stories! Not much homework, just a few bigger assignments. Very helpful outside of class and ALWAYS excited to help you. Shes intimidating but I promise, she is so genuine!
I don't believe her class lectures and real world examples were strong or transparent . I took the AP course in 12 grade, and she failed to broaden my understanding for psychology. Her grading is very petty I was given a C and I ended the semester with a 79.9%. She even gave me 0's on completed assignments. If you want a just teacher DONT take her!
Very interesting class- Im taking it for nursing. Fairly easy, just make sure you proof read all your work. Tests are fair, all multiple choice. Only negative side- comes off rude until you get to know her, and takes points off on papers for silly mistakes. Very smart lady!
lectures a lot, helpful with study guides for midterm and final, every chapter has a quiz-like hw, a written response hw, and a quiz. gives extra credit opportunities. is strict with grades and STRICT with syllabus!
I passed the course with an A, however, it was not the easiest class I've ever taken. I love Psychology but the structure of the class made studying for tests difficult. She deviates from power points, jumps around the book, and uses statistics in exams. She provided practice quiz websites based on the book. Use the learning objectives and read!
I had her post Psych 101 & Pscyh 200. She has experience working in Psychology. She has the greatest influence on me. Most people think she's strict but she just wants the best out of her students. If your really interested in learning about the course take her class. Read the chapter before going into class and be prepare for her to go over it.
I had a nice experience
Great teacher, I highly recommend taking her class if possible. Just be sure to always be on time.
She's a hard grader, strict about lateness, and it's hard to take notes but besides that her class was fun, hilarious, and interesting. She tells so many stories that are related to psychology and makes it easier to remember. If you put in the effort, she'll meet you halfway.
She's a great teacher! She uses real world examples which helps to explain material really well! She may seem pretty intimidating at first but throughout the semester you'll come to find that she is really a nice professor. She is strict about the lateness policy, but if she gets there on time then we should be able to as well. Highly recommend!
Relates information through personal stories and examples rather than death by PowerPoint. Able to break down and deliver complicated material in a way that is easy to understand and easier to remember come test time. Put in the work and you will not be disappointed with your grade. One of the best professors I've studied under.
Every time i take a psychology course, i look to see if she teaches it. I love her!! Shes a great professor, comes off harsh at first, but it is definitely worth it to take her class in the end
There's a reason professor Massoglia is number 1, her lectures are phenomenal, she gives good feedback, and is very helpful. If you're going to be taking any psychology course, make sure it's with her.
Professor Massoglia is literally my favorite professor in all of HCC. She is super funny and absolutely helpful as well. Her classes are pretty lecture heavy, but she makes them entertaining and interesting. I took her for psyc101 and took her again for psyc202 because she's that great and I do not regret it!
Taking a winter class is really hard because we cover the entire textbook and had a snow day . Massoglia is helping everyone do well in the class. She meets in her office or in class. There is too much work in the winter so I will not take another winter class. I am really glad I took this class with Massoglia. She is the best! So caring.
She was so receptive to any question asked and she was willing 5o go out of her way to help stusents however she can.
Her assignments are time-consuming, but it's easy to get good points if you follow her instructions. The only real issue I have with her is that she tests on things that she clearly has not taught or will give small group assignments based on material we haven't covered and not be around to give assistance- BUT you can pass if you do the work.
Nicest lady with great intention & wonderful knowledge. However, every person I talked too in my class, was just as confused as I was. The lectures are basically her randomly writing notes on the board from the summary page of your textbook. Her assignments are way outdated. Be prepared to teach yourself. Wish I would have dropped and saved my GPA
This prof. knows her material very well, its just she doesn't really give good lectures. Most of my classmate feel as if she's not really not going over all the material of the book. She does have her own stories that she "thinks" it relates to the class but really doesn't. She is strict on attendance, you can't even be one min late to her class.
Worst professor I've had during my time at HCC. Takes off points on assignments for the smallest things. Does not explain information well at all, especially for people who don't learn the way she teaches... which is scribbling random words on the white board and not explaining what it means. Would not recommend her at all.
Prof Massoglia covers the material so I can understand it. I can go by her office and she always helps me understand the things I do not understand. She makes me want to do well.
She gives lots of assignments, most of which are for no points. You have to complete some assignments just to get participation points for the next class day. Her lectures are never about what is in the book, but more about her own personal stories. Her stories are interesting but I feel they distract from the actual textbook/course material.
This professor knows the material very well but isn't the best with lectures. Mostly she just scribbles on the board and the inofrmtation isn't always necessary to know. Can be very picky when it comes to grading and some assignments are required but not graded. Attendence is very important and she does not stand for arriving late to class.
What a wonderful professor! She is concerned about her students and really knows how to make you feel comfortable in class and with the course materials. She takes time to know her students and makes them feel they are valued and respected.
AWESOME professor. Awesome class!
Take her class. Don't skip class. And definitely don't be late!
Professor Massoglia makes you work hard but the hard work pays off in your grade. She is a fast grader and will help you. Do the work and you will pass.
I am taking a summer course this summer. I cannot believe how much we have done and the class just started. I love it. I am learning so much already. Come to class and you will pass. She helped me in her office, too.
She is great!
I took my midterm exam this morning and feel I did really well, mostly because Professor Massoglia helped all of us understand the things we covered in class. Her midterm was hard but fair. If I took the course again I would not take it during the summer. Take her course but study and do the homework.
I just finished her summer course. It was an awesome class! If you take this course in the summer, be warned there is a lot of info packed into 5-weeks. I did it and worked a full time job! You can do it too. Don't be late. Her grading is very clear. She has an amazing open door policy, and she is always willing to talk or communicate through email
She definately sets you up for success if you do the homework and listen in class. I really enjoyed the writing/ analysis assignments. It's very apparent how much she loves what she does, and is very caring. She posted tons of resources on canvas, which is super awesome. I'm taking another of her classes next semester.
Very specific, you'll never understand how she wants you to write your essays. Expect to not get any real help back from her and she'll make you wait a couple of minutes outside if ur late to class since she doesn't let her students open the door. Will put you on the spot for little things, for example: throwing trash way while shes talk, etc.
She is an amazing person. In general its a tough a class, its a lot of material to learn. The lectures can be long but her examples help understand. Shes flexible and understanding. If you are confused she will take her time to help you understand.
She is great, funny and strict at the same time. Gives good advice and she is always available for out of a class meeting. Her lectures are really clear you will learn a lot with her.
She is a great teacher. She care for students need for success . She goes extra mile to help student with textbook.
This Professor is great! but TOUGH. IF you don't attend class, you will not pass. Plain and Simple. She does a very good job at making things very clear for students,. She doesn't sugar coat, or BS , she gives it to you straight, which I've grow to appreciate. If you suck at time management don't even bother, because you'll be out of luck.
She is a great professor, hands down. Learned a lot, she used her own life stories to help students understand. She does have a strong personality/ character. For the homework, it is not A LOT but they just take a while to complete. They are mostly are about 5 questions but she makes you think about it, putting you in real-world situations.
She's very direct and straight forward with her expectations and boundaries. Overall, she cares about her students and wants them to succeed. It's a lot of work and you won't pass if you miss class. There's a lot of material to cover, so it's very lecture heavy. She may work for some students, but she's not good for my learning style.
As a land-based teacher, she was great! She was very helpful and gave great lectures. But when classes got switched online because of corona it became very apparent that she does not know how to use technology. There was a lot of reading and homework assignments for the class which only doubled when we went online.
Professor Massoglia was an exceptional teacher! Her teaching style really helps you to learn the information and retain. She cares about each of her students. Like she says, "once my student, always my student". She will go out of her way to help you understand the course material. She may seem a little intimidating at first but she's kindhearted.
She is tough, but she will help you if you asked help from her. Don't be late in class or don't skip her class, follow as she says. Her exams were one extract from whole paragraph, so studying shortcuts or Quizlet may not be of great help. You really have to study a few times before taking any quizzes or tests. No late homework submission allowed.
This professor was probably one of the worst I've ever had. Now don't get me wrong, shes very nice, kinda sweet too, but the way she teaches definitely didn't work for me or several of my other classmates at the time. She grades extremely too hard, and isn't very useful or much available outside of the classroom. I would highly recommend... don't.
Professor Massoglia can definitely come off as intimidating at first. She wants you to take your education seriously, though, and have a real sense of personal responsibility. She helps you learn the material by applying it to real-life and personal situations. You must attend every class /on time/, or you will have a hard time passing.
Professor Massoglia is pretty strict but if you take her class seriously she will be a great teacher. She is always willing to go the extra mile to help students.
She is nice but she gives so many papers and she is a tough grader
You could read the entire 40 page chapter front and back, but you don't know the material. Quiz questions are weird- almost like they're meant for a different textbook. They don't make sense. She's the type that acts like she does everyone favors, then grades harshly and sends out rather cold announcements. She may or may not message you back.
Professor Massoglia really cares about her students and does extra things to help us pass. She was available every time I needed extra help and went out of her way to make sure I passed. Great class.
Professor Massoglia is a very caring professor cares about her students and not just about their learning but about their outside of school life. She is always giving information about any type of help that may be offered from the college such as food pantry information or scholarship opportunities, or even mental health information.
I took her flexible online class for PSYC-200. Attending lecture was not mandatory. I have taken her for PSYC-101 and I still love her! She cares about each of her students and wants you to do well. You're required to read the textbook (DO NOT just skim it). She sometimes uses homework questions on the exams so study hard! She's a great professor!
This was my first online class and I was worried I would not do well. I made an A in the class by doing the homework and passing the tests. The course was well organized and full of useful information. She really cares what happens to her students. Worth taking her.
I was scared to take psychology, especially as someone who is not good with memorization, but Professor Massoglia was fantastic. The information was interesting to learn about and the guidelines for assignments were easy to follow. Exams were fine if you watch the lectures and read the textbook. I really enjoyed taking this class, would recommend!
Best Professor ever & probably will ever have! Friendly, cares about students, precise in teaching, optional ZOOM meets (do attend!)& helps you extend the knowledge of any Psychology you could use in your life. Super fast responses-hard worker. I had to relearn how to work in her course bc it was heavy. I read the whole textbook and studied daily
This is an online course. Lots of materials read and term to memorize
Professor Massoglia is so great. Psychology involved a lot of reading, and as long as you can write well you'll do fine. She's very encouraging and treats her students like individuals rather than numbers. She made psychology enjoyable and graded sort of hard but she was very reasonable and gives lots of personal feedback.
She is one of the best professors I've ever had. She provides a TON of resources throughout the semester for students. She genuinely cares about the students wellbeing and overall success.
Professor Massoglia really cares about her students and goes out of her way to provide resources for classwork and day to day life. She grades all work extremely fast and leaves excellent feedback so you're never left wondering about your grades.
She is one of the best professors at HCC. I took her on asynchronous class and it was great. She gave us multiple ways to pass the course and there was no way you wouldnt be able to pass. She also the ONLY Professor I know that goes out of line to help her student ie she has links for food stamp, assault help line etc. I would take her again.
If you put in the work you can do well. It's a lot of reading. There are multiple assignments where you see the content more than once which helps to retain the information for quizzes and tests.
I took my PSYC-200 class online, however, Professor Massoglia went out of her way to be very interactive and involved with her students. She always left comments on every assignment stating what she liked or what needed to be improved. She responds to messages quickly and is grades assignments very fast.
I took PSYC200 this summer and it was the greatest experience with her. She is very involved with students and gives feedback on what you need to work on. Also, she grades assignments REALLY fast and if you cannot get a book she has some alternatives you can try. I highly recommend her.
Shes the best and very easy as long as you get the work done
Professor Massoglia is very friendly and gives very thorough feedback on assignments. She can be a pretty tough grader and will take points off if you arent very careful, but otherwise she is a great prof.
I took this course online. The reviews of her were good but read carefully. She assigned hard stuff every other day and it is hard to stay on top of your work. Her tests and work have lots of errors and it is hard to weed through all of her errors. I wasn't taking a full course load and it was hard to keep up. It was a terrible experience.
Always gives good feedback! Read syllabus carefully and assignment descriptions because points will be taken off. If you cant buy the textbook, she gave a more affordable option
she truly cares for her students and that matters! The class does have a good amount of work, but it is not overwhelming and it is the same week to week so you know how to plan for it. Going to class is a MUST! a lot is covered and you learn exact things from quizzes and tests that you won't know unless you want to read the textbook fully
Took her PSYC 101 class in the Winter. A whole lotta busy work and 80 - question tests with questions copied and pasted from test banks gathered from the nether regions of the universe - You can tell from how shoddily they are pasted into all the multiple choice assignments.
Professor Massoglia is great and all but she is very very very strict with grading, and I dont think its suitable for her grading criteria especially since its point based. She takes off points for the littlest things! I think she should try to reconsider her grading criteria or add extra credit assignment to help recover those missing points.
Im taking her for winter, the work itself isnt hard but its such a large amount of coursework for such a short semester. Her grading system is weird. I wish she would give extra credit since shes so strict with grading.
I took this class over the winter term. It is a lot of work. It is a full semester course crammed into 3 weeks, so that is to be expected. I do not find the grading to be overly strict. The key is to read the instructions, do the assignment, and then double check the instructions. The assignments helped me master the material. Great course!
I dont think that anybody told her that she doesnt have to cram the ENTIRE version of the course into just 3.5 weeks. You can make an abridged version for an abridged time-frame. You read 11 textbook chapters in this time period. 300+ pages! As a student in America, once you enroll your professors are your gods so you have to roll with the punches
I used my discretion to pick this winter course and it was fine. A lot of work (assignments due every day) but that's a given because it's a short course. Absolutely need the book. Don't trip based off the negative reviews here, sacrifice 3 weeks of free time to finish my prereqs early? I'd do it again. It's not as bad as some are saying.
So much whining. Yes, a winter term class needs to cover as much material as a full term class. She told us exactly what would be expected. Do the work and you will be fine.
Amazing lecturer and wants to give you all the resources you need to succeed. She's stern and a bit no-nonsense, but she really just wants to see her students do well. As long as she sees you putting in the effort or has been given proper warning she tries to be as understanding/supportive as possible. Make sure to participate in class discussions.
This has to be one of the absolute worst professors ever. Usually you have a little lee way or 10 percent taken off, no, everything is locked right away. Even if you try to explain you're going through something she essentially says I don't care. You cannot balance life with this professor. STAY AWAY PLEASE.
A lot of writing assignments and discussion posts that have very rigid rules. You have to watch boring 2-3 hours long documentary with no educational value for the writing assignments. She is more focused on your ability in English writing and following every rule she sets than the Psychology itself.
DO NOT TAKE HER FOR THIS CLASS!
Great professor! I took her PSYC-101 class and loved her as a professor so I signed up for her PSYC 200 class! She makes expectations very clear. She gives helpful feedback on homework/exams so you can better prepare for future assignments. Lots of resources for help and lots of homework. As long as you stay on top of things, you will be fine.
Really cares about her students.
Very thoughtful professor. She is a quick grader and provides feedback on every assignment. She is also very accessible outside of class (emails, etc.) and clearly cares for her students and their success. Overall amazing lecturer and enjoyable class. Just keep up with the chapters and content and you will be fine.
Great Professor. She cares about her students. Provides extensive resources. Lectures were great. Always gives great feedback.
WARNING TO STUDENTS WITH ACCOMMODATIONS: DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS The professor does not provide PowerPoints that reflect the lectures, actively stating they do not follow lectures of content taught. Is dismissive of the Leniency Extension of Deadlines Policy. She did not stop music that was playing during an in class test. used the R-word in lecture
Professor Massoglia is amazing. She graded quickly, met with me two times in Zoom to explain materials I did not understand, gave helpful feedback, and really cares for her students. I would take her again,
She is an amazing lecturer, get ready to work, please.
READ: If you will read one review, make this the one you read. After browsing through her reviews, the initial assumption is that she is an amazing and wonderful professor. But, all of these positive reviews are fake. Mary Ann Massoglia created them herself. Notice how all of these 5 rating reviews recommend reading the textbook and stop whining.
Stumbling across the bad reviews was shocking to me, but I do understand that everyone's experience may not be the same. I took her class online in the summer and Professor Massoglia was great! She graded all the assignments very quick; she provided a ton of supporting information to help with assignments and she was a great communicator.
Professor Massoglia's lectures were always very engaging and easy to follow. Her note-taking may be confusing to some so pay attention in class and read the textbook beforehand for context. I loved that she was such a genuine person any student could connect to. You can tell that she is very experienced and passionate about teaching
Prof. Massoglia's PSYC101 class is engaging, but can be quite intensive. The lectures are informative, and she's very approachable. Just make sure to stay on top of the readings and assignments. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for preparing for exams!
