class takes work and is crowded

Mrs. Pettit ("Pet it") is one of those rare proffessors who hands you a great grade on a silver platter. If you write down what she writes on the board and the overheads you don't even need to crack the book - Just memorize and regurgitate.
Awesome teacher, very helpful and fun!
Don't miss a single class. She is boring with a monotone voice.

She is a great teacher!!! Lots of notes and her tests take forever but as long as you show up for class and read your notes before the test you'll do fine. The class is always abnormally large and it's very hard to keep everyone in the class focused.
I'm partially through the semester now, I think she's okay. She tends to go off on tangents every now and then and she's kind of boring. But the subject is boring to me so that's probably it! I think she's okay.
I really like her. You have 3 tests and a paper and thats the only grades. You don't even need your book, just study notes for tests. She tells you everything you need to know for the tests.
Awesome teacher, a little boring but her stories are fun. Tests are easy and straight from the notes.
Excellent
Best Econ teacher you could ever get. Makes class interesting and not dead boring. I was dreading taking Econ but now it is my favorite class because of what a great professor she is. I highly recommend this class.
She is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Her voice is very annoying. She has no idea of what she is talking about. She teaches the class from newspapers and her ideas. You must tell her what she wants to hear on tests in order to get an A. She also grades very anally.
Pettit makes econ interesting even for people who aren't interested. She may ramble occasionally about things you don't need to know but her stories are usually interesting. Tests are multiple choice straight from the notes and the paper is pretty easy too. If you have questions she is more than willing to answer them, she wants to help you.
She is a amazing teacher. I definately reccomend taking her section. She is very helpful, clear, and intersting.
do not take econ history 221 with this teacher.i know ive heard she is ok for other classes but she is a horrible teacher for this class.the worst part is how she grades her tests.if you don't have the exact answer she wants on each question she will****you for points.her test questions are completely random and not relevant to the matieral
awesome
She is pretty nice and the class isn't too bad as long as you pay attention during the class and takes notes. There is no work to do outside of class except the one paper you write, which isn't too bad at all.
The test is completely based on the notes, so if you want to do well go to every class and stay awake.
Good teacher. Really takes an interest in the students. tests are extremely easy
I LOVE THIS TEACHER! she is an amazing teacher would recommend her to anyone. She makes econ seem so easy and it really isnt and as long as u go to class and get the notes u can get an A easy.
Very nice, and down to earth. She get a little flighty on her lectures occasionally. There is no work outside of class, except on paper. The paper is easy. I did it the night before and got an A. Test are straight from notes. She tells you specific things to study. I didnt open my book one time during the semester.
Mrs. Pettit was awesome. Exams straight from notes, she tells you what to pay attention to. Paper is easy, Exams are moderately easy. She commands the class really well and she has a sense of humor. Ask questions, shes always nice. Just take notes. AND never take a Friday morning 3 hour class for economics. Its not fun. But Pettit's a good teacher.
Easy class. Copy the lecture notes and study them for the test. Only homework is one 3 page paper.
I had Pettit for Econ 111 and 112. 111 was very easy, but 112 was tough. She was helpful, but there were too many people in that class for her to know anyone. Most of my problems were with the class and not her, except that she had THE WORST handwriting I have ever seen. It was hard to read a word of her notes!
It seems like she completely made up this course. Uses articles from newspapers and articles not from the book. Take good notes and highlight what she emphasizes in class because you need to talk about the main points on your exams or she'll mark you off. But topics were very interesting and definitely learned a lot in her class. And she's ripped!!
This class is easy to an extent. Just copy the notes and study from them and you are fine. Only homework is a 3 page paper. However you only get 4 grades in the class 3test and a paper... so don't screw up on one of the papers.
not helpful, never emails you back. lectures are clear but test questions are not. does grade very easy on paper so do a good job on that and you should be fine.
She does not use the text book. Her lectures are sloppy and not well informed. She will not respond to e-mails and will not make any effort to help you out if it at all goes against her usual ways. The class consists of 2 test, a paper, and a final.
Wonderful. She tells you exactly what to expect on tests. If you go to class and pay attention you will do great.(no need to even open the book.) wrote one paper, it was NOT hard (i got a 105%) if you need to take Econ TAKE HER.
Failed to properly explain the paper. Downgrades for not including "3 goals of economics" that are 'required' despite not being explained on the assignment handout.
You are crazy if you do not pick her for an econ teacher!!!
I had this professor for ECON 112 and thought she was pretty solid overall. However, in ECON 221 this was not the case. The tests were over little bits of information from over 30 pages of notes and the paper was not explained to us that well. I was not impressed with Professor Pettit at all in this class. I was actually disappointed in the course.
Great teacher. Attendance isn't mandatory, she doesn't give homework; only 3 tests and 1 essay make up your grade. She teaches at a easy pace. If you show up for class, getting an "A" should not take much effort.
First and foremost, you have to attend class to get a good grade, and you have to study, but that is expected out of a college course. She is an excellent teacher who knows her stuff. If I have the opportunity to be one of her students again, I will.
Funny Profesor! Attendance is not required. Go to class, take notes = A. Exams come right from the notes! 1 research paper - fairly easy write, just don't forget the 3 economic goals. Extremely helpful as well!! Best Economics professor in the entire department!!!
Great teacher! Attendance isn't mandatory. No homework; only 3 tests and 1 essay make up your grade (25% each). If you show up for class, getting an "A" should be easy. Will count off for not including "3 goals of economics" in the research paper. I would totally recommend her!
From what i hear, better than Wolffe.
Great teacher who cares about her students. She focuses more on the broad topics and less on the specifics. I got an A without ever opening my textbook and I have never had an econ class before. I really recommend this teacher if you have to take econ
Take notes and study or your screwed
Go to class and take notes and you'll be fine.
She is one of the best teachers at the school. Yes you have to go to class and yes you have to take notes, but otherwise she is super easy. Test questions are literally taken straight from the notes. She is extremely nice and helpful and if you have a question she is super nice about it and will help answer it.
Mary Ann is very clear and straightforward. Show up to class, take notes and your do great. Great real life examples.
Good prof, very funny! Don't miss any classes and its crucial to take notes.
Love her!! I really wish I was able to get her for 112. She does a wonderful job explaining, and is very clear about what she expects and what you'll be tested on. The paper is pretty easy, too. You have to show up to class because she does not post ANYTHING on bb. Take notes because the test comes directly from them!
Teaches good but she will NOT let you have your cell phone. She will kick you out of class for the day if she sees it. Sometimes test questions are worded poorly but again she teaches and explains well.
This class is extremely easy and she doesn't a good job teaching it. She stresses over and over and over what you need to know. You don't even need to pick up the book. Yes, she is a bit fanatical about the cell phones for some reason. I don't see a reason you can complain about her really.
She is very straightforward in what she teaches. The problem i had with class was that there were only 4 grades. The test questions try to trick you sometimes but she gives you everything you need to know. Come to class, you will get important information.
Like the previous comment, I agree that she is extremely straighforward about the class. Zero curveballs or tricky questions on anything. She is a good professor and I really became interested in economics. We had a midterm paper, but it is nothing to sweat over. If you go to class and pay attention, you will be golden.
She was really great. Interesting. The class was easy yet thought-provoking. If you're taking econ, I strongly suggest taking it with her. Pay attention, take notes, and study a little for the tests, and you won't have any problems.
Spends most of class in distracted tangents. Takes points off essay questions for bogus reasons. The woman just makes me want so scream pretty sure I ended up in rehab because of this teacher! AVOID!
Great teacher except for the facts that her handwriting is horrible, you won't be able to read the simplest words, and her accent makes her sound retarded and that's something you will never get used to. Her tests are worded differently than she teaches, which makes it difficult to understand some of the questions. I wouldn't recommend her.
She gets distracted very easily and goes off on tangents for most the class. The slides are sometimes helpful, but the things she says are not. Just pay attention to the slides and read the book. Even though she says we don't need to read the book, read it anyway because a lot of the questions on the exams are in the book and not part of her notes.
If you like retarded teachers who stutter and mumble all the time, then she's the right one for you!
She gives out notes that are directly correlated to the test. So attendance is necessary!
Very difficult to understand. She goes off on distracted tangents the majority of the class. The examples she uses never make sense. Her handwriting is incomprehensible and her power point slides are useless. She says if you study the slides, you'll do fine on the tests, but nothing from the slides are on the test. Avoid.
Made the concepts very clear! I wasn't really that interested in economics until I took her class.
She is so ripped! She'll kick you out if you use a cell phone. There is really no work involved. There are 2 tests, a midterm paper, and a non-cumulative final each worth 25% of the grade. She talks a lot and not everything on the tests is directly from her notes, but you can figure pretty much any of it out if you pay attention. Best 111 teacher!
Her tests are difficult which sucks cause there's only 4 each worth 25% of your grade. She will kick you out if you use a cell phone and never cancels class which you should probably show up to since she puts nothing on BB. I would take a different teacher if you can.
Had her last sem. for 112 and this sem. for 111...BY CHOICE! She is funny, helpful, makes econ. easily understandable, gives real life examples. YOU MUST ATTEND TO TAKE NOTES AND STUDY FOR AN "A"!! 4 tests worth 25% each for your grade. Final NOT comprehensive. Have an A after 2 tests and never cracked the book open. NO CELL PHONES OR YOUR OUT!
Must attend class to take notes! Cant use a cell phone or she will kick you out as others have said. Only 4 tests now worth 25% each each is non cummulative. There is no paper anymore for the ones that said there was she said she was disappointed in them so she took them out. I would take because its the easiest econ111 teacher there is
Pettit is a great professor of Economics! There are only 4 grades in her class: two exams, a paper(which she has since taken out), and a noncomprehensive final! If you want humor, take her class! She is a Southern Belle that sticks to her syllabus, especially about the cell phone. Bottom line, sit in the back and don't get caught! A+ Teacher!
She's a good professor and makes things easy to understand, but she's a total Keynesian and it shows.
She's a nice woman and I somewhat enjoyed her class. The tests are difficult and you will need to study for them seeing as they are your only grade
She is hilarious. I really enjoyed her class, but it is fairly difficult. You must attend regularly and take notes if you expect to do well. She has 4 exams which you will need to study for, and they will be your only grade in the class. The only negative thing I could say about her is she often gets off topic but other than that she's great.
Good teacher but you need to go to class. She's funny and cares about her students but you have to work to get an A
Pettit was an overall good teacher. Her test were extremely difficult for me. A lot of her questions were worded very difficult to understand. You're going to want to show up every day for this class. Only 4 test determine your final grade. The test content is strictly pulled from the lecture too.
Her tests are definitely difficultly worded, and she studders which makes it hard for me to pay attention. Lectures were boring and she's strict about phone usage. Was not a fan of her class.
She words her test really far from lecture notes! Gets off topic all the time! Strict about cellphones and doesn't offer any other opportunity for credit excpet for test! Take another teacher if possible!!!
The only grades in her class are 4 exams. If you attend class and take notes, you should be able to do just fine on the exams. Attending class is the tricky part though, because it can get boring at times.
All you have to do is show up to class, take decent notes, and study for the exams. I never even cracked the book all semester and got a pretty easy "A". Be forewarned though: she means business about the no cell phone policy.
I do not recommend this teacher. She only gives 4 tests including final. She is also very rude, when I email her, she always replied with insulting, rude remarks.
Very Difficult, unwilling to work with students, very strict and test are very differently worded
4 exams. Only grades. 25% each. Was on the borderline of whether I should drop or just study hard and try to pass. I thought I could pass it. Studied hard and still failed. Had to withdraw with a WF. No help to students. Her direct comment after visiting office hours "be careful on the next test"...terrible. Rude. Can't believe she gets paid.
Great teacher. Made Economics easy to understand and interesting.
Although attendance is not mandatory, it is definitely mandatory if you want to get an A. She only tests you on the notes/handouts/lectures. If you memorize all of the notes prior to the test you will get an A/B easily. The hardest part about the class is that the multiple choice is worth 4pts/question. And there are always 3 or 4 that are wordy.
Class is not mandatory but is recommended you go as that's where most of the test material comes from. Didn't have to open my book once, but I found YouTube videos to be more helpful than her class. Memorize notes, she isn't kidding when she says to start studying weeks before the test or everyday.
Attendance highly suggested. She does not post her slides on BB and does not offer study guides. Your notes are your only tool. She is a good teacher though and explains things thoroughly. If you use your phone, she kicks you out which is annoying. If she even sees it sitting out she will call you out on it
The only grade for this class are four tests. She tells you right away to study the notes and copy everything down. If you do this, then you are fine. You can tell she enjoys the topic and that makes class interesting. She is very strict on in class cell phone use and you will get kicked out. Be prepared to be wished a "Happy Friday" every week!
Had her for macro. Sit in the front, take notes (on projector) study the notes for your test and you'll make it. I got a B avg.
I actually took this class twice. I didn't show up for class a lot the first time around and I did poorly on the exams because of it. The exams come straight from her notes but you have to be there and have to pay attention in order to get them. Just make sure you show up and you'll do fine.
She'd be better suited as a high school teacher. She doesn't seem able to answer questions as she doesn't seem to possess enough handle on the subject matter. Tests are a crap shoot. It doesn't matter how well or thorough you answer a question if you haven't used specific keywords she wants to see -- of which you have no prior knowledge of.
No assignments, just tests. She didn't take attendance, but she did not post her lectures online so going to class was a must to pass a test.
She is a good teacher but can be a little strict, especially about cell phones. She doesn't actually take attendance but she notices if you're gone. No homework, just exam grades. Exams aren't bad if you actually study and go to class. Most of it is straight from the notes.
If you don't go to class, don't expect to pass. You have to take ALL the tests or you can't pass her either. Still very upbeat and tries to make course interesting. If you sit up front and interact during class she will do more to help you out. When she repeats something multiple times, make sure you highlight it; it will be on the test!
Probably one of the best professors I've had. Her expectations are clear and concise, and she makes things easy to understand. Econ can be tricky, but I never had any trouble understanding it the way she explained it.
One of the best teachers I have had. She's funny and keeps lectures entertaining. Makes material clear and gives good examples. There are no assignments, papers, or quizzes. The only grades are 4 tests that come from the notes. She doesn't take attendance, but notices when you are gone. Show up to class, take notes, and study and you'll do good.
Just attend your classes
Four tests. No extra credit. No quizzes. No homework
Superb
In micro she is really good at explaining and she stresses what is often missed on previous test. If you have questions she is really good about answering them in class or after class. You have to study for her test because there are 4 tests and that is your grade. There is no homework.
Mary Ann Pettit is a great professor. Of course it is important that you go to class as you should with any class, but she makes it fun. Her tests come right from her notes which are not too heavy. If you are struggling with the material I would recommend reading the book or at least skimming it before one of her 4 tests. She'd be happy to help! :)
She is a wonderful professor, but she doesnt waste her time with students who dont want to learn. If you dont want to be there, she doesnt want you there. That said, she is helpful, clear, and kind. I would take her for every class possible. Her lectures tell you exactly what will be on the test.
She stretches what would normally be a 15-25 minute lecture to an hour by rambling about irrelevant stories and adding unnecessary dramatic effects to her powerpoints. She words her exams differently from the notes and if you memorized the notes completely you still might get a B on it; she also gives absolutely no help or clarification on exams.
She is a very good professor. I plan to take her for my remaining econ classes. However, a lot of students do stuggle due to skipping class. Show up and take notes easy A
I liked her at the beginning she was cool or whatever. Then, she started confronting us and asking what we do on our laptops. I showed her my notes repeatedly. She still didn't believe I took notes. I had a slideshow for my deceased brother and people looked at my screen. She thought it was suspicious. I would never go back to her class.
You HAVE to attend class and take notes in order to do well in her class. Her tests are worded differently from notes so make sure truly understand them and DO THE MODULES. It's easy to get on her bad side if you're always on your phone in class. Make sure you're on her good side by paying attention in class and she will round your grade up!
A very good teacher. Her tests are easy and the content is clear.
Great teacher! She makes the boring subject interesting. As long as you go to class take notes, and study a bit before the tests, you should be able to get an A. Her tests are clear and line up with the notes. I would take from her again.
She goes on a lot of tangents during her lectures and takes forever to get to her point she tries to tell us. Her power points are unorganized and my notes hurt because of it. She also has us read articles in class to fill up class time. Never used the textbook that was assigned. If you pay attention the whole time, props to you.
she's a nice lady and a great teacher. need to take notes and attend class to pass. test are a little hard. you need to study to pass her class. only grade in the class are 4 test and there is no extra credit.
Write her power points word-for-word in your notes. Memorize it. Her written tests exactly what your notes are, in order. Easy A if you pay attention and study for a few hours. Easy F if you don't.
Professor Pettit was a great teacher! She used great examples and prepared us well for the test. I plan to take her again. Pay close attention to her notes and her "My EconLab" homework. If you pay attention and do a little outside work, this class will be a breeze!
Pettit was great. She was extremely clear on what was required. Only issue I had with her was the fact that there was no way to prepare for the tests besides reading the notes. You could try to do the homework to study but it won't get you far because the tests are always much more difficult.
Great professor, I got a lot out of her lectures. But the only assignments you were graded on were the 4 exams she gave during the semester. Therefore, if you don't do good on the first two exams, you'll need to study hard for the last two in order to receive a good grade.
Easy class and tests if you show up every day and take notes. There's no chance of passing without the notes.
She is very patronizing and her idea of helping when asked is, "why don't you know" I would not recommend her if it's possible.
She's the best economics teacher at SIUE. I've taken her for both 111 and 112
This class was so boring. Everything she says came exactly from the powerpoint. It was a very easy class, just wasn't the best teacher.
Please study for her tests!!! She is a good professor and it is not hard to get an A or B in the class let alone pass, but study! Use quizlet or whatever works for you. If you don't do well on a test you will be having to work harder the rest of the semester because she only grades you off of four tests for her Micro/Macro Econ. classes
She will tell you everything you need to know to pass. If you pay attention to what she is saying and write down what she dictates, you will get an A. She is very knowledgeable and seems to have teaching down to a science. Sometimes the lectures can get boring, but that is the nature of the subject.
This class is made up of just four tests which makes getting an A tough. If you show up, pay attention and make quizlets you should be okay. The test questions are hard so you need to know more than just basic information and really understand the concepts to thrive. Overall, she is very sweet but is old fashioned and believes in a strict average.
If you go to class, studying and understand the notes youll pass.
She is a great professor. She doesn't allow any electronics though. The class is made up of 3 exams and a final that is not cumulative. Take notes everyday and you'll do great. If you miss a day you have to get the notes from a classmate because she doesn't post them on BB. There are modules online to help teach you the material but not for credit.
Lectures can be pretty dry, but it is Econ after all... 4 exams total, those are the ONLY points available (100 each.) Does not take attendance, but does not post any of the power points online. So be prepared to show up to class or have a friend share notes. Teaches very well, I found the class to be tolerable and not difficult.
Your only grade is three tests, so you have to really study for them. If you take good notes (which means go to class) and study really hard for those tests you will pass. She is an excellent professor and makes class really interesting for a typically boring class. She is hilarious and really nice.
Patronizing and unhelpful. Wont put PowerPoints on BB because no one would show up if she did, so I guess it helps her feel important. She has a temper when it comes to petty things. She just needs to get over herself. Lectures are fine, just dont do anything to make her mad, which includes participating in class if you dont know it all
She made the material very easy to understand. If you show up to class and review the material, it is an easy A.
Pettit is a solid teacher, she knows economics well and wants you to learn. She is very kind-hearted and nice, she cares for all of her student. There is a no phone/laptop/ electronic policy in her class so if she catches you on your phone she will dismiss you. Econ is hard but she does a good job explaining. Put the work in and you will get an A.
Pay close attention in lectures. Test are hard if you study only the powerpoint part of the lectures but talk to her before hand on what you can do to do well in the class.
She's a nice and knowledgeable person, but her lectures can get boring at times. It's easy to get an A in this class: just go to class, copy down her powerpoint slides and what she says, and study your notes. Make sure to study for the exams, though; your entire grade is based off of 4 of them. She also doesn't allow technology FYI.
I took Prof. Pettit for both econ 111 & 112. Both classes have almost the same material up to the first test. Your grade is based on 4 exams, the last being a non cumulative final :) To get an A in her class, show up and take notes everyday. All material comes from the notes. star the things she makes bold, & know the 1st thing on each list she has
Great at teaching the material, LOTS of notes, just only graded by tests
Lectures heavy and only takes 4 grades, but I left the class every single day feeling as if I understood the material better than any of my other classes. She comes off as intimidating but she is actually kind of funny and very sweet. You have to study, but I think she makes it worth it by giving us the material we need to take the test in notes
Professor Pettit is okay. This class is just boring. Pay attention to bold face type in power point, study a lot, this class was no joke. You only have 3 exams plus the final, no homework. Also zero electronics are allowed, no laptops, tablets, phones, etc.. if caught with one you will be asked to leave.
Had to take this , but she's a good pick. Knows her stuff, easy to hear & understand, & tests are fair. It's only 4 test grades which sounds scary but you just attend, pay attention, do any practice, & you're fine. She has a problem with people leaving class for any reason but I don't care I leave anyway cuz I gotta go to the bathroom, so sue me
Mrs. Pettit is alright. Your grade is only based off the four exams, which may be intimidating, but you'll do fine as long as you attend and take good notes. Make sure you write stuff that isn't on the slides that she emphasizes.
Teacher was very disrespectful towards students. Has no compassion for them. A student in my class was seizing on an exam day and she had no sympathy and wanted to hand out the exam anyways.
She knows what she is talking about and is really passionate about the subject. She gives lots of handouts and as long as you go to class you will pass. No electronics allowed or she will ask you to leave. Her exams are hard but make sure you study the material talked about in class. Write more than just the lectures as she says a lot of info!
She presents the information in a way that is easy to understand. There are 4 tests, if you study the notes you will do good. You have to come to class every day because its 100% lecture. She lacks empathy, she insisted on passing out a test while a student was seizuring with blood coming out of his mouth. Thankfully a police officer stopped her...
Pettit is a tough, independent woman who does not take lip from anyone. She knows Economics and will make sure the students that show up will know it too. There are 4 tests, which are your only grades. Show up, pay attention, get an A. Easy.
As a freshman coming into their first semester of college, this course hit me like a semi on the interstate. If you are like myself and took your basic econ class in high school, that will not cut it here. I had gone in for help after the first 2 (ROUGH) exams and was told to just drop the class and that economics will be my downfall.
Comes off really condescending. If you miss class, even for a good reason, she will not give you the material you missed. Her tests are really hard, and ultimately if you do not do well she will tell you to drop. Definitely harder than a 100 level course
Pettit is the best economics professor at SIUE. Her lessons teach you everything you need to know for her tests and everything from on the exam is straight from the class. The only downside to that is if you dont attend her class you will fail. But if you attend most of her classes you will at least get a B.
Mary prefers to read off a presentation and never go into full detail. Her tests; however, are extremely detailed and somewhat difficult if the book has not been read. To pass this course with a decent grade and minimal effort, find a better teacher.
Petitt did nothing but notes and expected you to copy verbatim. The whole grade was made of only 4 test graders bomb a test you might a well drop the class.
Knows her subject very well. Illustrates without rabbit trailing. Shes very strict about technology usage - no laptops or cell phones. Definitely no headphones. If you can stand to be off your phone for an hour, show up to class and take decent notes shes a breeze. 111 was 4 non comphrehensive exams with no homework. Come to class and its easy.
Pettit is a great professor. She can come off as mean sometimes, but she is just very real. Shes a strong independent person and doesnt care about your feelings. How it should be. Take notes. The tests are based right from the notes. Not hard at all. Pretty easy class overall. And interesting. Probably the best Business prof at siue.
I loved having Professor Pettit! As long as you stay on top of her assignments, which are not taken for a grade, and show up to class for notes, you'll do fine! You will only receive a grade on four exams. Attendance is not a grade.
She is the best Econ professor at SIUE. She made it very straight forward and easy. Show up to class and take detailed notes to study for the exams!
Look, I'll be frank with you, Mrs. Pettit is an easy class, however, you best hope you have 0 issues otherwise she will drop you like its no one's business. She is known for handing out more withdrawals than any other teacher at SIUE so your safest bet is to show up to every class and you'll pass easily, have any issues good luck.
Petit is a really difficult teacher if you want to slide by. She is a hard a$$ and honestly, I wouldn't have her any other way. She gives great feedback, has detailed lectures, and will explain everything clearly so you will understand it. If she could teach all of my classes, I would be happy.
Your grade is ONLY 4 exams. The notes do not help you study and half of the notes are not on the exams. I studied for this class everyday and I have no idea how I did so bad. A 100 level class should not be this difficult. Very boring lectures.
Never had a teacher that outright refused to help students because they weren't a major that applied to their class. Not a bad teacher by any means, but she knows what kinds of students she's teaching for. Attend lectures and follow through with her notes and you'll do fine, but I honestly wouldn't recommend unless you were certain of your major.
You pretty much can't ask her any questions. You'll ask her a question and she'll tell you to look at your syllabus which might be the most confusing thing I have even seen. During this online class, she has not made an effort to reach out to anyone if they are doing well or not. There are only 4 grades the whole semester and they are all tests.
Pettit is without a doubt the worst instructor Ive ever had. She is cold and drags on about things that dont pertain to the lectures. Pettit has yelled at adults for using the bathroom, showing up a little late, and for not taking notes to her satisfaction. I was in the hospital for multiple days before finals and she couldnt care less. A demon.
If you do your homework, understand the material, and take notes, it is really hard to fail here. Ms. Pettit describes the basics of economics in this class really well and leaves out specific things that may be beneficial to economics majors. None the less she describes and teaches what is included well. Memorize the syllabus.
this class is solely based off test. the homework grades have to be 100% on all of them or shell deduct 15 points off the test. its a fairly simple class but the lack of grades make it stressful. lectures drag on too much for just reading off slides
I missed one of the only 4 grades in the class because the teacher is inactive in class and doesn't remind students of due dates so it is now impossible to pass. Teacher disrespected me when I addressed her calmly about the situation. AVOID AVOID AVOID
Another teacher that did not transfer to online learning well and YOU the student are punished for it.
Your only grades the whole semester are four exams. There are a few videos you have to watch and assignments you have to get 100% on or she takes 15 points off your exam. When I contacted her about a mistake and misunderstanding she was rude and not helpful. Might be good in person but not online.
Mrs Pettit is most likely the worst teacher you can have for Econ 111, Multiple times she was disrespectful when I had tried to contact her, as well as her not caring about the course and not being prevalent in anything to do with the class. I would HIGHLY recommend a different Prof.
She is a great lecturer and is engaged with students. I took the in person class. Don't miss any lectures. Also keep in mind that if you don't finish the homework, or if you don't finish the little homework quizzes with 100%'s, you automatically lose point from your next exam. Remember that most of the homework modules are repeatable, most....
Mary Ann Pettit is not a good teacher for this class. She reads off powerpoints and is NOT accessible outside of class. Only 4 exams in the class and theyre each worth 25% of your grade. Someone in my class got into a severe car accident and asked her to take the final exam on a different date because he was in the hospital and she told him no!!
She is the worst teacher ever. Rude asl and just rambles on and on about nothing.
This class was a joke. I am retaking it with someone else because I am confident to say that the only reason i received an F is because of Petit. One on one conversations with her? She'll be rude. Emailing her? She'll be rude. Perfect instance of having to take a class that has nothing to do with your major, and basically being slapped in the face.
Professor Pettit knows her stuff that is very obvious, but her class is set up for failure in my opinion. You only get your 4 exam grades all semester and that is it. If you miss her class she will not give out the notes from the class you have missed. Overall she is not a good teacher or helpful whatsoever.
Course is set up to fail you. Only grades are test and the test dont always match up with lectures. If you dont do homework or get anything less than 100% its 15 points off your test grade.
Class is set up to fail. Only get 4 exam grades and for every homework assignment you do not get a 100% on it is 15 points off of your exam grade. Not a good teacher and is not helpful outside of class.
Despite what others have said, your success is guaranteed if you review the material given by Mary. Lecture notes, modules, module quiz questions, videos. Make sure you memorize AND understand all information given through these. It's not Mary's job to force you to do anything, it's what you make of it. I promise you'll do good if you try!
Professor Pettit teaches econ 112 very well. However, the class is only graded on four exams, and any missed problems on the homework result in a deduction from your exam score. If you study you should get an A, but do not expect to attend office hours or ask questions :(
ECON111 & 112 were pretty basic freshman year lecture hall classes. NO PHONES ALLOWED! She's very strict on this, I am not even kidding, seen her ask someone to leave the classroom for having their phone out. The entire grade is based on only 4 exams. Do your online reviews before the exams. Be prepared, learn the content, and you'll get an A.
The only grades for this class are the 4 tests that are taken and the online modules that are required don't help your grade yet you have to do them because if you don't or you get anything less than 100% it affects your test grades
Everything on the tests is covered in the lectures. Your final grade is based on 4 tests, including the final, (25% each). She does not post slides, so go to the lectures or have someone who does send you their notes.
She's about the most mediocre professor you can have. Her class is based on 4 exams, which is not really that difficult if you study. She has modules that you must repeat and get 100% on. Except some of them aren't repeatable, and if you do not get 100% on those it's a 15% reduction on your exam. So be cautious with her, seriously.
If you commute (and don't want to nearly die in a snowstorm but be forced to attend as the test that day is 25% of your grade, she will not offer a make up opportunity under any circumstance), want access to basic resources, or want to be treated kindly avoid at all cost. She makes incredibly clear that she does not want a professional or (1/2)
Miss class? You're not getting the notes unless you ask a peer. Bad test taker? Sucks, because the ONLY grades you get are from 4 exams (aside from the modules she has you do but they're not for a grade technically, you don't get points for doing them, HOWEVER, you DO get points SUBTRACTED from your exams if you don't do them). L professor.
She dedicated herself fully for our success. Managed to score 100 on every test. She explains very well. Just read notes regularly, pay attention in class, listen, WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING!! There are no presentations to download, so everything's based on the class notes (only 4 exams). If you do all of the listed above - you'll do brilliantly.
Prof. Pettit is great. She's always there for help. Write down everything she tells, read your notes, and just put some effort into the exam preparation. She explains the material great, always available after lectures for any questions. Just make sure you write down everything, as all of the exams are based solely on the notes. Was a great class!!
She was intimidating saying no technology but overall class wasn't horrible. She explains everything pretty well and does know what she's talking about. HAVE to attend class, all notes for exams come from notes given in class. She doesn't post the slides so have to write them down. Entire grade is only 4 exams. Online portion isn't bad either.
NO PHONES ALLOWED! She's very strict about this policy, she once told someone they're done for the day and can leave for having their phone out. The entire grade is based on 4 exams. There's no need in meeting with her to go over an exam she'll give it to you and have you find each answer in your notes, THEY ARE ALL IN THERE. Have fun and study..
You have a lot of hw but don't get credit for it you have 4 exams and that's all your graded on each worth 25%
Everything in her class is well organized and laid out on the syllabus. This class is no technology. The one thing that sucks is that you're only graded on the 4 exams you take within the course, but have to complete the homework, so you have to hold yourself accountable and make sure you study outside of class.
As you all have seen, yes, Mary only puts in 4 exams into the gradebook as your official grade. As someone who's an extremely bad test taker, I've learned that literally memorizing the notes and webinars have gotten me to receive an A in every exam. Go to class, memorize, and you'll pass. Apart from this, she was super easy and has great fashion!!!
Had this Prof. for Macro and Micro. Macro was easier by far. She is very strict and does not offer any extra credit. Be prepared to write notes and know them front to back because her exams are made up of only her notes and a few modules. She did not do anything to me personally so I have no problem with her as a person but she is a tough prof. tbh
Prof. Pettit's class is well-organized, but the grading is exam-based with mandatory modules that can negatively impact your scores. The material is manageable if you stay on top of the work. I found unstuck ai and the textbook helpful for preparing.
She's a really cool lady, but she won't put up with BS. be there or fail. She doesn't have the lectures or slides online, and occasionally the homework won't cover everything. NO TECH IN CLASS, which sucks, and class passes pretty slow sometimes, but its worth it for your grade to attend.
She's okay. She has an interesting accent that can be hard to listen to. You don't have to come to class, but you should get the notes from someone. No technology allowed. The homework is not worth points, but if you don't do it then you lose 15 pts on the exam. The tests were easy if you studied your notes.
If you show up and take notes, you'll pass. Her syllabus feels intimidating, and the homework situation isn't the greatest, but it's easy. Be ready to take a lot of notes and study them plus the homework, as the tests are the only grades you get. The tests match the lectures. She says the final is a unit 4 test, but it's more of a unit 3+4.
Indirectly punished me for having an important obligation by refusing to explain a concept to me that I was confused by.
Ngl she was really mean to me. Genuinely never had a teacher who was so rude and stuck up. Her lectures are like watching paint dry. If you can get a different teacher for this class please do for your own sanity.
most people dislike her because she's strict about no electronics even for note taking, but her lectures are very informative and everything you need for the exams are in the slides. she doesn't post slides so you have to show up but if you show up, you'll get an A. your entire grade is made up of the four exams but they are easy.
Honestly a lot of people don't like her or her class because your grade is made up of only four exams. However all of what is on the exams are word for word from her lecture slides. She doesn't post the slideshows on blackboard so attendance is mandatory. Exams were easy if you just studied the lecture notes, like I said they were word for word
