Take this class w/ Prof. Clarke! VERY interesting discussions. Tests are good if you study... seems like a lot of work, but works out in the end. Awesome class... highly recommend it.

Professor Clarke truly loves history and it shows. Take her class and her passion for history will show in her lectures. Granted they can be boring, but it's history. Fair grader, always offers help to her students and will make time to meet after class. I'd take her for another History class.

her "quizes" are all essay. for the first quiz i had no idea what to study. once i knew what she was looking for, i did better. if you have questions, GO TO HER. she is sooooo helpful when she sees that you want to do well and are putting in the extra time.

She is very nice and very helpful. The class is a lot of work but I think its that way with all history classes. Make sure you keep up with the readings and listen and take notes during class. If you do that you will be fine. She is great if you have a question or need help. You can tell she likes what she does.

She is very passionate about the sbject! Brings great stories to class. Very energetic and talks fast. Bring a tape recorder if you can't write fast! Highly recommended! Wonderful woman

She was a great teacher!! The class was really challenging, but if you had any questions she was right there with an answer. She's really engaging and you can tell that she loves what she does. You should definately take her.

Amazing teacher. You could hate history and take her and you will enjoy it- If you try and if you read you're set. Very intelligent, so don't insult her by coming up with lame excuses, she doesn't appreciate ignorance. Take her and enjoy this class!

Let's set the record straight: Anyone who could dislike Prof Clarke obviously didn't do the work and therefore didn't get the grade they "thought" he/she deserved. She expects what any COLLEGE level course teacher SHOULD expect. Do the reading, participate in class, and listen! You'll do fine. She's a wonderful teacher. Take her if you can.

I second the comment below. Prof Clarke is well versed, and her class is not difficult if you do the readings and if you use your brain, if you have one. Unfortunately, most people don't care about their core classes and don't want to put in the effort.

The best class I have ever taken. I had a slight interest in history but after her class I was hooked. She made it a very relaxed learning enviornment. It was alot of work but I learned alot. I loved her class so much I took a political science class of hers next. I highly recommend her, she is a great teacher and very knowledgeable.

Mrs. Clarke is GREAT! She really loves what she does and will help you if you ask for it! The class is alot of work but its not HER its the CLASS! You need to do the work and if you do the papers, read, take notes, and Study (hello people you are in college!!) you will do fine. I am not a writer so the papers were hard for me but I still did fine!

Professor Clarke's enthusiasm for her subject is contagious. HIST 161 is a lot of work, but her interesting lectures and fair expectations made it worthwhile. Professor Clarke wants to see all of her students succeed, and sparked my interest in a subject I previously had very little interest in.

I took her for Hist 161 & Poli Sci 202. She is the best teacher. Her classes are mainly lectures, which are very helpful for exams. She assigns a lot of reading,but you need to read for any class. She's a fair grader. She expects a lot, but you're in college. She is the best teacher & if you have the opportunity to take any of her classes take em.

Infectious. The only people I know of who don't like her just dont like school period. Had a class from 9-1,always got out early though, and was a great way to wake up on Fri morning. Makes plenty of jokes but knows when to be serious. READ! The Hist 161 book is not hard to read, make sure you do, helps immensely. Tests were a challenge but do-able

Professor Clarke is an extremely nice person and she can also be very funny. She wants her students to do well and likes to have group interaction. The only thing that I didn't like was that she often read from her notes at a face pace and it was hard to take notes at such a rapid pace. Her exams aren't that hard.

I had Clarke about a year ago but forgot to post until now. She is a GREAT teacher: knows her stuff, funny and keeps class interesting. I do not care for political science, history, etc. but I always looked forward to her class. I appreciated the way she structured the class to be interactive. She is FAIR: do the work and you will do well.

A great professor! Kept class entertaining while discussing material that can be really boring. Really knows the material well. The class itself was fast paced and relatively challenging, but if you attend class and take good notes, and STUDY for the exams, her class is both fun and informative. Overall a great professor.

i absolutly loved this professor she was fun and kept the whole class engaged while packing in all the information you need. if you attend class and take notes there is no way that you can fail.

I LOVED this professor, she was really good at keeping the class engaged while still teaching everyone all they needed to know. If you needed a hand with anything she has no problem helping. I loved this class solely because I wasn't the only one talking everyone had something to say which only added to the productiveness of the class.

She kept the class interesting and was more than willing to help. She makes everyone feel comfortable and she lets you know exactly what she expects of you. Great email correspondence. Highly recommended.

Outstanding. Not an easy class. The tests can be difficult, but she lets you know very clearly what material will be on them. If you read the book and study the notes from class you will be fine. Missing classes will cause you to fail. Professor keeps the material fresh and entertaining. She encourages student's thoughts and respectful commentary.

She made the subject very interesting and fun. When my class had difficulty citing properly for out paper, she gave us the opportunity to re-do it. However, her class it not easy. You will be do well if you complete the reading and study for the tests.

One of the best history classes I have taken. Clarke is very helpful and interested in her students. She designs her course each semester to what the students want to learn. The atmosphere in the class was warm and inviting. She even brought Allie's Donuts for us. Definitely not an Easy A but well worth the effort. The best history class I've taken

Took Prof Clarke for Pol 202, definitely not an easy class, but well worth it. She is one of the best, if not the best teacher at RIC.

If she didn't give formal tests and found some other way to grade her students, she would be my favorite teacher this semester. Her tests are hard and you need to know a lot. With that being said, she is the best lecturer I have ever had and is respectful of others opinions. Even though she is hard, I wouldn't trade her for any other professor.

Professor Clarke could be teaching doctoral courses because she's just that smart. If you put in the effort, she will help you in the long run. Her exams aren't the easiest things in the world but if you study and take good notes, you will find your grades will improve. If you have a passion for government, take her. If you don't, find someone else

Brilliant woman, great orator and makes everybody feel comfortable. Lectures are very interesting but she talks too fast, in intricate way and it's hard to get her point. Not my kind of instructor, would recommend to students who have strong interest in subject of politics, or those who like interactive classes , you will love her.

Her American government tests are very challenging but she will give a study guide. That being said, study very hard for them. She gives a very long book to read with a 7-10 page report on it that's not graded that harshly. The final presidential project was very easy and fun. shes also a very cool professor. Take the classs but work very hard

She will help anyone who needs help, in anything. She is by far the most supportive and helpful professor I have ever had. I appreciate everything she has done to me and I'm so thankful to have learned from her. She isn't easy, but its worth the work you'll put into the class

Professor Clarke made our class feel like a tight knit family. She answers her email immediately and her door is always open. When you do something right, she'll praise you. If you're wrong, she'll take the steps to help guide you where you need to go. Would HIGHLY recommend you take her class for a social science credit, she's awesome

Professor Clarke was by far the greatest college professor I have had in my 4 years at RIC. As long as you do your work, you will pass. She is willing to meet outside of class, comes to class early and provides fast feedback on assignments. Accommodating and will keep you interested throughout class. Take her class if you can!

Professor Clarke is awesome! Class is always entertaining and fun. Had to retake Pol202 again due to how hard it was to understand but Professor Clarke makes the Pol202 understandable and tolerable. Hands down my favorite class in the 3 years that I've been here. Take her if you are taking Pol202!

Professor Clarke is one of the best Professors Ive had at RIC. Her energy and passion make for a great learning environment. If you work the class and do what you are suppose to do, it will not go unoticed. You can tell she really cares about what students think by her class discussions. I learned so much in this class.

Professor Clarke is the most caring professor Ive had so far. She starts off class by asking individuals how theyre feeling, and then starts teaching. Its not hard to pass her class, but you cant expect an A if you do absolutely nothing. Would take her a million more times. Highly recommend this class with her. Shoutout to you homegirl.

Not a day went by that she didnt tell us that she looked forward to having our class, and you could see she meant it. She cared for all of us like a second mother and made sure we did what we had to do. She made jokes but would also pull someone to the side after class if she saw they had an off day to let them know shes here. Love her so much.

Absolutely adore her. Shes so cute and makes bomb cookies. She definitely knows what shes teaching and shell make sure you understand the materials but she also likes to secure a connection with her students and you dont get that from many professors. She really is a one-of-a-kind professor. I recommend her to everyone.

Basically a debate class so be ready to talk but its alot of fun!

I took this class as an elective and learned a lot. Prof Clarke is such a kind person and really cares about each of her students; she builds a classroom community that is usually uncommon in college classes. I looked forward to her class each week and would definitely take her again if given the opportunity

Best teacher I have had at RIC. Super nice and cares about her students. Class is based off of discussion about current events and how it relates back to Education. Online homework is easy, takes about an hour/hour and a half max. One test that counts for a lot, two informal papers, and two projects.

I really liked her, but there was a ton of coursework to do - I think this is partly due to RIC's online class setup. Often 7+ hours of work to do. 1-2 discussion boards per week. Multiple informal assignments. Two big projects. A lot of reading, but interesting for the most part. Wish grading criteria for some things was clearer. Overall 8/10

Professor Clarke puts together an amazing online course. She is a fair grader, gives good feedback, and is willing to answer any questions that a student may have. She creates a fantastic personal bond which can be difficult in an online course. My guess is her in-person course is even better! A lot of reading, but nothing too difficult.

I honestly cannot give this professor enough praise. She is hands down the best professor I have ever had in my 5 years of being in college (changed my major two times). She respects all of her students and listens to us! If you have the chance to take a class with her, do your self a favor, TAKE THE CLASS!

I had professor Mary Anne Clarke for HIST104 class and let me just tell you, she is the BEST!!! This professor seriously cares about her students and even bakes them cookies!! She is there for her students and wants everyone to succeed. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone who wants to put in the effort and is willing to do the work!!!

I'm not a politics person, but she kept every class fun and interesting. There's quite a bit of reading from the textbook, but the material ties in well with lectures.

I enjoyed taking a history class with her, she is very enthusiastic and is always straight to the point for different eras of history. We use a small textbook but only for discussion board purposes so it doesn't drag in class. She doesn't give any actual quizzes or tests, just essays, some short and long. She is good at giving feedback as well.
