She explains everything very well and she's always willing to help. It's a LOT of work and it's tough, but if you do the all the homework and do ok the quizes, you can get a 75 on the midterm and a 80 on the final and still get an A. (experience!)
very good teacher, very helpful, alot of homework , you have to try to not pass and try if you wanna pass
Awesome teacher. She is not as hard as everybody says she is. my prep algebra teacher recommened her to me. what gives in the way of homework assignments is not a lot. She explains the subject clear and through. Even gives you knowledge of what is a head.
Her tone and replies to her students needs work. She knows her subjects well, but overall I think she needs to work on her personality and commmunication skills more so she can put her students at ease in the classroom. Short remarks and superior attitude will not help students to learn.
Mrs. Petruska was an awesome Cal III teacher, although it was hard to read her writing sometimes...She grades quite fairly with plenty of homework to keep you busy and prepare you for quizzes and the two tests. Watch out on take home quizzes! Very nice, overall, and always there to help you! :)
She is an awesome teacher. Her classes are a lot of work but are worth it. She is very polite and nice. She is very helpful and will not make you feel stupid. I would recomend her to anyone serious about their education, however, if you are a slacker, I would stay away from her.
She was difficult to follow and very hard to understand.
She is a bit hard to follow, but knows her stuff. If your ok at math, you shouldn't have a problem in her class. If you are slower at math (like myself) you may have some problems. Where she lacks in pacing, she makes up in helpfulness. She will bend over backwards for someone who asks for her help
SHE IS GOOD, AS FAR AS POLICY AND GETTING TESTS BACK TO YOU. SHE IS VERY ORGANIZED. I AM NOT A MATH WIZ, SO SHE WAS VERY HARD FOR ME TO FOLLOW. SHE KNOWS HER STUFF BUT IF YOU STRUGGLE IN MATH SHE MAY NOT BE THE PROF. FOR YOU. SHE WILL HELP YOU THOUGH.
Be carful in choosing this instructor's class! She is very good at math but she works off the principle of you don't need to know why, just memorize it. If you want a good understanding of the material pick another instructor, however, if you want to see a lot of problems worked on the board and you can learn by watching with no why then goforit!
I never understood math until I had her as a teacher. I came out of her college algebra class with a B, and this is coming from someone who didn't pass algebra the first time around i high school!
She is easily one of the best and most helpful teachers at PJC. I tried to take all of my math classes with her, but she didn't teach them all so that didn't work very well.

Easy teacher who will help you if you have problems. Plan on taking her for Cal 1.
She starts of her classes with jokes. However, she is very sweet and understanding. She is one of the few teachers that will work with you for however long it takes, and gives lots of examples of different problems, so you can refer to your notes. Overall great teacher.
Mrs. P. is awesome. I can't do math worth squat, and she made it all MUCH easier then any other prof. I've had. She is a very sweet person, and will do anything to help you! Take her, you won't regret it.
Petruska's Cal I class is definitely not easy, but she is an extremely helpful, knowledgable and approachable instructor. She does plenty of examples and she will DRILL you on everything you need to know. As long as you complete all of those take-home quizzes (which she lets you work on in groups), there's no reason why you shouldn't do well.
Mrs. Petruska is the best math instructor I have ever had. I got the first "A" ever in my career in math in her class, not because I got any better at it, but because she is the most helpful, fair, knowledgeable math teacher I've ever known.
so sweet,gives candy!
Simply one of the best teachers at PJC. Super helpful, friendly and genuinely cares about her students. A rare find among teachers. Hard tests, lots of homework, but worth it.
TAKE HER CLASS! The sooner the better. Most helpful in every aspect and totally approachable for any reason! Explains everything you need to know in a way you can understand. I wish I would have taken one of her classes first semester.
Overall, the best teacher to teach math in college. VERY HELPFUL, and will answer any question before, during, and after class just to make sure everyone gets it. I will take her other math class next term. I would highly recommend, especially to those who don't get math easily.
She is very helpful. She loves to do word problems. There are a good deal of quizzes but a lot of them are take home and you have a week to do them.
GREAT TEACHER!If u have a hard time in math I highly recommend her class. She takes a substantial amount of time to help her students understand the material. Yes,take home test every wk. but u have a full wk. to wrk on it and she gives u 20 mins. before class ends to talk to other students and discuss answers.Very sincere and always wants to help
GREAT teacher. had her for precal and trig. very helpful and clear. gives lots of examples and will help you if you dont understand. be prepared to do your homework and keep a notebook, but we're in college now arent we. i would hihgly recomend her for any math class.
I really wasnt caring about my schooling and stuff cause I had kindof given up, but she showed me I got what it takes to do everything I needed for math, I had a defeated attitude before her class and I'm glad I had the opportunity to be in her class, she's not just your teacher, she's also your friend
She does know her stuff... BUT OMG! It is soo hard to follow along with her! She gives online homework which is the easiest part. But the take home quizzes every week, online quizzes every week, projects every 2 weeks and a midterm and final. Thats a bit MUCH for a college algebra class!
great teacher but dont park in her parking spot she will report you to the FBI.... Enjoy
She is the best math teacher I have ever had. Prior to taking her class I was horrible at math and always got a C at best. Yes, she has a lot of work for you to do but all of that work HELPS. It helps you learn the material and gives you a buffer for your grade. If you aren't comfortable in math TAKE HER!
Good teacher, knows her stuff. A lot of homework and class work but she is always willing to help you. Dont miss a day if you dont really know the material. She goes kind of fast but if you dont get something RAISE YOUR HAND AND ASK, she will give as many examples as you need, and extra help. Just dont be shy and itll be an easy class
If youre taking MAT1033 its probably b/c youre not the greatest at math. She gives a ton a HW, take home quizes, makes you make a portfolio, & there are only 2 tests for the whole semester! She flys through problems on the board and doesnt leave a lot of time for Q & A's. I would NOT recommend her to anyone! Nice lady but I wouldnt take her again.
Mrs. Petruska is one of the best teachers I've had this semester. She give about 8 problems per section, which isn't a lot at all compared to my previous classes where I would receive 15+ questions to do. She works all the homework on the board before you have to turn it in, if you ask. She is a fantastic teacher.
She does know her stuff, but she doesn't teach it well. She gives useless examples, the take home quizzes do not reflect what you learn in class. She gives a ton of work, but honestly you will need it because doing the work counts more towards your grade than what she teaches you. If you didn't do well in inter algebra, don't take her.
I LOVE THIS TEACHER! If i could take her in another math I definitely would. I failed this class my first year taking it with Mrs.Shoop so I was worried about taking it again. Luckily I got Mrs.Petruska and I passed with a C. She really cares if you pass or not,she will do one on one tutoring with you if you need it. I HIGHLY recommend her.
Mrs. Petruska was a fantastic teacher. She is very helpful and really prepares you for the tests. The tests are very simple, and the harder problems are the same as the take home quizes. Even if you dont like Algebra, you will do great in this class if you try.
Must do a lot of work to get passing grade. Test are extremly hard. You must performed test fast are you will not even get half done.
Mrs Petruska is an outstanding professor! She was very knowlegeable on the subject matter, and was willing to help anyone willing to learn. I thoroughly enjoyed her classes and miss having her as a professor!! A++++++
This class is definitely not easy! There's lots of work, and most of it is pretty tough, but it is possible. Online HW and portfolio will raise your grade, take-home quizzes and projects may help or hurt. Only tests are midterm and final, but they aren't awful. She's a great teacher for sure, it's just not an easy class.
The online class work is medium in difficulty and the study plan is very helpful for the online tests. The mid term & the final is taken in person & pretty tough unless you have a photographic memory. 1/3 will be multiple choice the rest is to be handwritten. All the different formulas are expected to be memorized. Take your own calculator.
THERE IS ALOT OF WORK, BUT IF YOU PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT IN YOU CAN GET A GOOD GRADE.
Amazing!! Go to class do all the homework and especially the portofolio.
She definitely loves her job. She's very clear and knows how to teach. If you don't understand math, she can explain it so you'll know. She's very funny and has a lot of math jokes. I enjoyed her class. I would definitely recommend her!
I took this class online so I don't really know how she is in person. She was very kind and helpful through email though. All my homework and tests were through Course Compass which made it fairly easy as well, except the midterm and final ARE NOT online. I was in Wyoming for this summer semester so I had to find a proctored testing center.
Great class. Stay on top of homework (or MyMath Lab; your choice)and take home quizzes. Should do fine.
I had Mrs. P for Cal 1. I'll take her again in a heartbeat. In fact, I wish I had taken her for all my classes. Her teaching is geared more towards preparing you for higher maths, so if you are an engineering or math major, TAKE HER. If you couldn't care less and want an easy ride, DO NOT take her. She is a lot of work, but completely worth it.
Mrs. Petruska is very kind and fun; but get ready to do a ton of work. Her midterm and final make up a large portion of your grade and they are both extremely difficult. know your trig!
Mrs. P loves her job. You have to create a portfolio which is 10% of your final grade..if u take the hybrid class you have online tests(timed),take home tests, a ton of homework..not very patient and moves extremely fast in the classroom...If you struggle at all with math stay away from Mrs. P
Lots of work but at the end you will understand the course and will be ready for upcoming courses that involve MAC2233. Good luck!!!
talk about hard. i had her for a summer trig class and it was the most work i have ever done for a class, EVER... in 4 weeks we covered the whole book (8 chapters), had 8 online quizzes, 8 take home quizzes, over 40 hw assignments, 8 projects, two exams, and the PORTFOLIO (100+key terms, chapter review, etc.) RIDICULOUS! she is nice, but INSANE.
Took online. While the work was easy, she wouldn't go out of her way to provide me with additional materials to study, or even say what formulas we would be tested on. Her answers to my questions were always indirect or unclear, and when I went to the department head about it, she said I WAS IN THE WRONG. WOULD NOT TAKE AGAIN.
Mrs. P's class is a lot of work, but I went into the final needing a 60 to keep my A, which was freakin' awesome. She's willing to back up and help you with the basics. Her tests are killer, but she allows you to choose which questions you want to answer, leaving lots of room for extra credit. Definitely take her. You'll be glad you did.
Mrs. P is a good teacher. She gives alot of work and being in her class in mandatory. Do the work and it will offset your midterm and final. I hate math and I got a B
Petruska's online class is IMPOSSIBLE. It is completely self study with little done to ensure student success. I honestly don't know what her role is in the class other than vague email responses and grading the two proctored exams maybe. WORST experience ever. I always do well in mathematics classes but I will never take one online again.
She is an Excellent teacher and wants you to know math and tries to make it very interesting. She is alot of work but you will know the material and she makes it easy to succeed. Lots of opportunity to get extra points and get a higher grade. Hate Math Love Mrs.P
Took her summer Trig course, and MAN was it a lot of work. Not going to lie and say the course load was easy, but it definitely pays off in the end; You actually learn the subject! Really sweet teacher who teaches well, and has the best in mind for her students. Also lets you drop a good amount of assignments ;) Would definitely take her again!
Great teacher. You will learn ALOT!! She will help you however she can! Would highly recommend.
I would be definitely take her class again. I took her summer express trig class. She's very helpful when you need it. No need to buy the textbook since you'll end up buying the ebook to do homework and quiz. There's a lot of work involved but it's worth it. Her class taught me how to be organize for all my other classes. I would recommend her.
Too much homework, this prep class is treated like a college algebra class. When ask questions she is a smart mouth and doesn't answer. Her class stinks. P.S. maybe because she walks around with shoes off
I am an English major, and I really suck at math. This is the first A I ever made in a math class at the college level. She gets that not everybody is a math whiz, thus the reason for taking Math for Liberal Arts. She makes sure you understand, and her required Math biographies and portfolios easy ways to pad your grade without actual math.
I took the online class and failed. Don't expect any feedback or help from the instructor. I found the online tutoring to be very frustrating and cumbersome. Mrs. Petruska gave no extra credit and test had to match her exact answers or you got zero credit. The proctored test time are too short for the amount of questions on them.
I LOVE math and had to drop this course because her teaching skills were very hard for me to follow. She assigns a lot of work and there are also projects. I left class and would attempt the homework and not understand it whatsoever. I wouldn't recommend her as a teacher if you need to see problems worked out and not read straight out of the book.
A lot of note taking and homework. She helps if you don't understand something. You have to keep up with all test, quizzes, homework, etc. to keep up your portfolio which is a big part of your grade. There is no book needed, just a MyMathLab access code. Test are sometimes difficult so make sure to study everything! She tries to be funny but fails.
Amazing teacher, definitely my best professor. She is great at making a complex subject seem easy. She is probably the best teacher I've ever had.
Mac 1105 online, it was ridiculous. The online program used, MyMathLab, was difficult and often unavailable due to website issues. The main part of your grade is based off the PROCTORED mid term and Comprehensive Final, both of which were much harder then the chapter tests and not enough time to complete. No extra credit was ever offered.
Not a math person so this class would have been difficult regardless. Very smart & passionate about what she teaches but the assignments add up quick. All key terms, definitions & examples, daily homework, weekly tests, weekly group projects, weekly/biweekly quizzes, corrections on all problems missed on homework/quizzes/tests, & graded portfolio.
Mrs P. is an awesome math teacher who does her best to help you succeed one of the best math teachers i've ever had in any school. I got a C in her class for someone like me that has struggled with math that's a A in my book Mrs. P rocks......
Definitely a great teacher. Her examples and teaching make the material pretty easy to understand. Just make sure to keep up with your portfolio so it doesn't overwhelm you when it's due.
Ms. P changed my life! I used to not really understand math so i didn't try my best on homework . She made me love it and value all the work i put towards the class. She really listens to your needs and if you dont get something she'll try and try again to help you understand. Attendance is a must and stay on top of hw and her extra portfolio work
I read reviews and decided to take her class. That was a big mistake. My experience may have been different in a classroom vs online but I will never know. Family emergency or not she is not understanding and will not let you turn in assignment late (proof emergency given). I ended up withdrawing from her class and will never take her again.
She is an amazing instructor and extremely fair! Her lectures are thoughtful & correspond with the homework & take home tests. She shows you a couple of ways to work problems so you can choose which way works best for you. She does give a lot of homework & the portfolio is extensive but if you do it you will learn.
She is very smart but very passive aggressive when answering student's questions. it is very important to stay on top of your homework and study the take home tests.
The first math class that I have ever recieved a good grade for, even felt confident in. Keep up with your binder for extra credit because it will significantly help your grade. You can rework homework as often as you want until it's due (pearsonmathlab). Tests are taken home and a week is given to complete. Only hard part is mid and final exams.
BEST TEACHER EVER HAD!!!!!!
Simple teacher, show up, do the work, be organized. You get an easy A.
Ms. P is such a great professor. She is down to earth and very kind. She gives you the tools to achieve in the classroom. She presents the material in a few different ways For everyone to find their best way. I already signed up to take her this summer online as she did not have an in person section for MFG 1107.
Must purchase online textbook. Must take midterm/final on campus. All homework online, print out tests with scanned submission. Pop quizzes right before test. This class was great, except for going in to take proctored exam.
Ms. P is a very caring and engaged professor. Anytime I've had a question she's been on it within a day. You're self teaching, but she & the math lab are there.. Homework and Quizzes through MML aren't bad. Tests are downloaded from canvass and turned in via scanned pdf. Challenging without being frustrating. Proctored mid and final required.
Took pre-cal Online. If you have anything else going on in your life don't take the class online. Like others said, crazy homework and tests schedule. Not worth my time, I will take again in class. 1st time dropping a class and I'm in pre-med w/ a 4.0. Not opposed to work, just opposed to her style. I'll pay to be taught by someone next semester.
Mrs. Petruska was a pretty cool teacher, but it was a very tough class and I sometimes felt like we spent more time on example problems rather than actually learning what we were doing. We had 6 tests, HW on every section of every chapter, 6 quizzes, and 6 group projects. However, she did drop the lowest 2 of everything. Solid choice for a teacher.
Ms. P was a great teacher! She responds back fast. She will even respond at night and on the weekends. There was quite a bit of homework but not to bad. The midterm and the final exams are taken at the testing center. At the test, she provides us with some of the formulas we went through. It was hard but she made this class fun and not frustrating.
Im usually a student that tries very hard in math & will barely pass with a C. I finished this class with a 95% A & will be taking her for MGF1107! She wants you to succeed & will help in any way. Uses the entire class time because she wants to make sure everyone gets it. Easy group projects, easy HW. Doesnt make you feel dumb for asking Qs!
I took this class online & it was brutal. I really enjoy math and being challenged, but this class was beyond frustrating. The homework was simple and clear, but tests were a nightmare. It was incredibly difficult and different than what the homework was on. Often, it appeared that she wanted you to struggle. I would not recommend this teacher.
Go to class and take notes. She gives take-home tests and encourages you to work with other classmates on the take-home. She is strict about midterm and final and gives lots of homework. She is a great teacher though and is always there to talk to.
She wants her students to succeed and understand the material. She is easily accessible outside of class and is very organized. The portfolio she has you do can be a lot of work but is a very useful study guide for the cumulative final.
Unfortunately, this class is extremely tough. As you all know, online classes are basically there for flexibility but there is no teaching. So you have to teach yourself calculus. Test heavy, 3-50 hours of homework/test/tutoring we week. The only way I may possibly pass is because of the tutoring system they have set up. Thanks tutors!!!
Math isn't my strongest subject; this was my 2nd time taking this class, but with a different instructor & online. I truly believe that great professors matter when taking a course. Ms. P. was the best math teacher I've ever had. If I had any questions or concerns she never left me in the dark & encouraged me to keep going.
Very prepared. the class got a bit difficult, but i blame that on my dislike of math and the fact that it was online. she was very respectful and quick to respond. she sent out emails with reminders and gave us an alert when she was called away to jury duty. overall good class and good professor.
Petruska is not understanding when emergencies happen and you cant attend class. Her lectures are amazing and she is great at explaining the material but is not open to questions. She makes you feel dumb and uncomfortable asking for help. I have a 4.0 GPA and had to drop her class. She is an extremely tough grader and does a lot of group projects.
I had to take her online class during the pandemic breakout and she is not underway the least bit. Youll be spending about 3-5 hours a day doing her homework and on top of that her tests are really hard. Shes not understanding at all and it almost feels as if she wants you to fail. I dont recommend at all. Her Liberal arts math is tough
I would not recommend taking her. Her tests are extremely difficult. Her final and midterm counts for 60% of your grade and there is absolutely no reviews for them. She expects you to recall 100% of the material for you midterm and final. I will not be taking her again and now have to retake Trig.
Take home tests for each chapter. Portfolio check at midterm and final. Pretty straight forward and was always available if there were any questions. Is knowledgable but is not the best when it comes to teaching it to students. Be sure to ask plenty questions if you're lost & not just let her work the presolved questions she had for lecture.
If you take the online course then be prepared for all the work. A lot of homework. The midterm and final will have to be taken on campus which sucked. For the other test you write them on paper then scan it and send it to her and you have about 3 or 4 days to do the test so you have plenty of time to go over it and check your work. Great teacher!
I personally would not take her again. She is very passionate about her job and is pretty funny, but if you aren't decent at math she is a little hard. She's a good teacher, as long as you understand the course work. Lots of quizzes! And a decent amount of homework, at least a page a day.
I took her online MGF1106 course and there is a lot of HW and sometimes HW you dont even realize is due. Not very understanding of missing things on accident and will not reopen things even if it is for a valid reason. Does give a little extra credit, but not something to rely on. Do not miss her HW, it will bite you later.
A great teacher! Gives extra credit and is a nice and caring teacher. Class is organized so it is easy to access the course. Quite a bit of homework, but it is very helpful. Would definitely take her again!
The most amazing teacher I've had at PSC. She is caring, and funny
Ms. Petruska is an interesting teacher to learn from. She is encouraging and inspirational. I struggled with math for years and she was helpful to show me what was missing. Don't miss class. Her lectures help so much. I was glad I purchased the book instead of just using the online version.
THE Best and most solid teacher to take a math class with! I started with lower developmentals and struggled through college-level math until I found her 3 semesters later!! TAKE THE OPTIONAL PORTFOLIO!!!!!! If you do the work and make an honest attempt, she will see that, and give you credit where it is due. I would NEVER have passed without her.
I love Mrs. Petruska! She is so understanding and makes sure you understand what the problem is. Only teacher i would leave a rating for.
Was super open and accommodating, I always struggle in math and she always made sure to take plenty of time to explain extra if needed. Was very understanding when I missed two weeks for a family emergency and was working 3 jobs. Most I have ever learned and genuinely understood from a math teacher.
Passionate about her work and genuinely wants to see students succeed. Gives plenty of resources, and makes expectations/ grading criteria clear on day one. Reasonable deadlines, potentially flexible is discussed. Happy to help and give feedback. Available for questions outside of class hours. 10/10, would take her for another course.
Great professor! Responds quickly and explains things well. There's a lot of work, but it helps you understand the material. Midterm/final exams are big parts of your overall grade, and all assignments/exams are handwritten and submitted as pictures—but she grades fairly and offers extra credit. Very paper-based class and used the textbook a lot!
Great professor! I'm taking her again for another math class. She replies to emails quickly, is super kind, supportive, and gives grace if you mess up. The only minor issue was that early on, she didn't explain clearly where everything was, but after that, it was smooth sailing. If you want an easy class with an amazing professor, take her!
This professor is good and makes the class easier. She answers questions quickly. The class does involve a lot of work and relies heavily on handwritten assignments that you upload as PDFs, plus the midterm/final is a large portion of your grade. It's a paper-based course with frequent textbook use, but she's fair with grading and does extra credit
Amazing professor, super nice, fair with grading, and very encouraging. She was easy to contact and gave me helpful pointers that helped me pass the midterm and final. There are regular assignments, including some paper submissions. The downside is that the midterm and final are a large portion of your grade.
