Great teacher so far. She replaces McGilloway and is doing an excellent job. Very informative and funny too. Gives and exciting lecture and loves to help you in lab.
she's awesome. she makes the class easy. explains hard concepts to the point where you understand it. shes funny too so she wakes you up and also gives interesting facts that relate to the subject. got an A in her class!
i got an A in her class with out even trying! i dont even have a textbook! she is very funny and helpful. i highly recomend her.
very kind
amazing teacher! great and interesting lectures... and very helpful to all students. i love her!
this lady knows her stuff, clear concise, great stories, wants you to succeed. She demonstrates every lab so you cant do it wrong.
Loved her! Explains everything and very funny! Awesome in lecture and lab!
great teacher. she wants you to succeed
She makes the class fun, entertaining, and intriquing. Also, she is straightforward and will help students out in any way. I would highly recommend M. Bennett for lecture and lab. She reinforces material from both.
She talks a lot about her personal life but keeps the class interesting and fun.
She keeps to her notes, not the book, so don't buy the book. Her labs are really easy. If you study your notes and pay attention in Lab, you'll do fine...
She makes this class very interesting and fun. She is fair and does everything to help students. Awesome, one of my all time favorite professors!!
Mary is an awesome professor! She tests from her notes, gives students a study guide for lecture and lab, and wants to help her students succeed. Avoid this class at UNLV and take Mary. You'll be glad you did!
Funny, approachable, and has always been fair. . . She is very knowledgeable, makes micro interesting ---- :0)
Mary is an amazing instructor. She explains things very clearly, her exams are from her notes so make sure you are at every lecture. She definitely keeps micro interesting. I highly recommend taking both lab and lecture with her. Shes great.
She is such an incredible teacher, she makes the book look bad. Yeah, she's that good. I was taking Fred Jackson's Anatomy and her Microbiology at the same time and I still manage to get a good grade for both classes. Don't buy the book, I rather buy her notes. There was never a time when I felt confused in this class, she explains well.
She is awesome! Very straightforward and makes the class very interesting. Take excellent notes and study from those - textbook not needed. No tricks on exams, overall the best science professor I have had.
Mary Bennett is an efficient, talented teacher who teaches in a logical, straight-forward manner. 95% of test questions come from class notes. Mary has had a fascinating variety of relevent experiences in this field and she frequently shares those with the class to illustrate concepts. Warm, helpful, intelligent, dedicated. Great in lab, too!
She was a super awesome teacher. Made everything easy to understand and interesting. Relates material to real situation. Just a super fantastic teacher.
She is the greatest teacher! I enjoyed the class, she made it educational and fun at the same time. Dont buy the book (unless you really need it to learn that way as well) bring a tape recorder and your attention and you will do fine. You will learn so much and take her for both lecture and lab (if you can)
She is a great instructor!! Very straightforward, her tests are all off notes and she does not use power point!!She made the class very interesting,it is an easy A.
Mary made the subject intresting and used analogies that work in everyday life. she made sure that you understood the subject and is willing to take the time to go over it again...when needed, the book was used for reference only. Much better if you have her for both lecture and lab...can't wait for micro!!
She is a very nice lady and a good teacher. I had to take retake this class and she was much easier. The lab had some problems but it wasnt her fault. The only thing is she talks about her homelife alot.
Enjoyed her delightful "Back in IOWA" stories/jokes, although, I think the class was still too early for me when I took it. . (I'm not a morning person) Anyway, take her for both lecture/lab, you'll be glad you did! I know I was :0)
Mary was great and made the class interesting. She can be harsh with students at times but overall a great professor!
Mary is such a great teacher. She is very organized and makes the class very interesting. Her tests are somewhat hard but if you read her study guides and notes, youll be fine. Her labs are easy and fun, she doesnt make things complicated like the lab manuals do. I would recommend taking her for any class, you wont regret it. =)
Mary overall is good! All notes on board! I Suggest brining a tape recorder and big note pad because you will learn ALOT information on micro, she make sure that she squeeze ever bit of information from the book to the point you will be thinking that a Shegella flexnari Gram-Negative Facultative anaerobe always stain pink!!! ha!
She is a good professor who will make you earn your A (if you want it). She is admittedly dyslexic which sometimes made note taking interesting. The book is never used, so do not buy it. Bring a recorder to class and lab to transcribe notes and you should do fine.
I walked out of her class with so much information that has been retained. She explains things wonderfully well and uses examples that we can all relate to. Her tests are off her notes (plus you get a study guide). If you work hard it will show in your grade. Also try to get her for lab...she explains many things in her lab class.
Mary was great! I learned so much from her and yet hardly studied as I should have. I would definately recommend her!
talks to much about herself
Mary is smart, funny, a gifted educator, & infectiously enthusiastic about biology! Lots of visuals, analogies, & examples make hard concepts much easier to understand & remember. Gives out study guides. Tests/grades fairly. Very easy to approach & genuinely cares about the success of her students. Would take her again in a minute!
Mary is an excellent teacher. She teaches what is relavent, tests on what she teaches. Clear and concise. If you put the time in, you will do fine in the lecture, watch out for the lab retards though. All in all, I will be taking Mary for BIOL 251. If I could take her for all of my BIO classes I would... Excellent job Mary!
This class is really interesting. She'll tell you the first day that you probably don't need a textbook, and you don't! I didn't even try in the class and got a B. Loved all her stories! Definitely take her!!!
I cannot wait to have her for Micro! Mary is such a wonderful instructor! She explains her lectures so well, making sure her students have a clear understanding of the topics. You will pass the class if you take the notes & study off of them. :] Textbook is only used for reference , but it still helps when you study at home. I recommend taking her!
hard to learn from, great to look at
I am currently taking Mary this summer and I have to tell you that she is one of the best professor I've had in a long time. Before taking this class I didn't know anything about Biology and was told by a counselor that I should take basic bio to understand some of the concepts before taking this class. I decided against it and now I'm glad I did
So far so good still in the summer class (first time around) and looks like I'm passing. Her lectures are great and she's very helpful when questions are asked So, read your chapters and study your notes and you should do well with understanding the info and the lectures.
She makes everything seem so easy. She gives out a study guide for each test which really helps! I highly recommend her to anyone for bio. I will be taking her for micro for sure!
Mary is awesome, the best instructor to teach a science! Very helpful, and if you just listen you can get a B!!!
I definately recommend Mary Bennett for Bio 189. It's a really hard class, but her lectures are good. Try to get her lab as well. If you're lucky enough to get her, DO NOT miss any classes or you'll fall behind!
You will learn so much. No tricks either. Exams are clear and she provides a study guide which is very helpful. No power point either. Clear notes.
mary is very helpful and a great teacher i wish i had her for all my classes mary ROCKS makes the subject easy
Very Helpful! She is a very good teacher and i really enjoyed micro i would recommend her to anyone!
Mary the BEST teacher at CSN. Makes the class enjoyable and easy to understand! I would take her for any class she teaches!
Mary is a good teacher when it comes to lectures, no doubt but she's a little unorganized when it comes to getting the grades in on time. If you like a teacher that's fairly easy, somewhat gets personal at times, and attendance is a must, then take her for Micro!
Definitely one of my best professors ever. The most enjoyable teacher of my semester.
I WISH Mary was teaching NURSING! I'd be the first one to sign up for ALL her classes! CSN nursing dept. would be more interesting for sure if Mary was one of them. I miss all her stories, I JUST WISH she was teaching nursing!
Mary is a great teacher who is down to earth and easily approachable. You do not need to buy the book because she bases her exams directly from lecture. That being said, it is important to go to class! She only teaches at one campus so the traveling was inconvenient but worth it!
Mary makes micro very interesting. I thoroghly enjoyed this class however, she is sometimes unorganized and tempermental. She may be all smiles 1 minute and totally sterned faced the next. Personal issues aside, I would recommend her to any student looking to take this course. The class is only easy if you study! :)
This professor is the bomb! She is attractive, funny, easy to approach, extremely helpful, and knowledgable. Makes learning a breeze! I never dreaded class.
Instructor is very knowledgeable. She is the best instructor I have had in college . She is awesome because she knows when she needs to change the material to make it more understandable. Teachers who know when something calls for a change are great teachers and open mined. It is great to have her as your instructor and would love her as a mentor!
Very interesting. Took her class as a rebound from a prof. that was so disconnected. Mary with us and she tells stories about her family all the time which is funny. She is a REAL person so she won't have crazy expectations of you to spend 45hrs a week on BIO. Attend every class!!! will help at the end.
mary was wonderful !!! i was shocked at how much she cared about passing her students. she makes a lot of scenerio's to go along with the material and its very helpful. i wish she taugh a&p. i had so much fun during her summer class.
Excellent teacher, really takes the time to explain concepts to her students. Students should attend all classes. I learned so much this summer and i still remember it all. A real person who loves what she does!! Really Enjoyed her class, also took her for 251.
Highly recommendable prof. Class is NOT easy! You need to put in the time. She knows her stuff and presents hard concepts very well. Approachable, relates micro. w/ everyday life. Tests fair, no powerpoints. Attend class, takes notes, study - you'll do well! However, is it possible she rates herself? LOL. . She is a great instructor though!

Professor Mary Bennett is great. Very easy to understand, record her lectures and take notes. No need to buy the book. Exams are straight from the notes. 4 exams and 1 comprehensive final.
I attended her class in Fall 2008. In my opinion, she is a great teacher and a very interesting and unique person. Although I felt we had some innate personality incompatibility that almost always made me say the wrong thing at the wrong time, I still have great respect for her knowledge, intelligence and skill as a teacher. Best wishes, professor.
Ms.Bennett is a WOUNDERFUL, HELPFUL,HONEST,FUNNY TEACHER!She will take the time to make sure you understand the topics and she really knows her stuff. You will have to take notes and study them but it's worth it. She won't talk over your head but to you and is very down to earth. I wish there was a micro 2, i would take it with her!
AWESOME TEACHER! Got an A in the class. There is A LOT of material but if you make note cards off of her lectures, you'll do great. Definitely recommend recording her lectures (you should for all Bio classes anyways). 4 exams and a Final! The FINAL is a mixture of the easier questions from previous exams. TAKE HER if you can! :D
Got A on all my exams. If you memorize the material you will do fine. Didn't use the text book at all. Study lecture notes and record her lectures and you can also get an A. Take her for Lab too.
Ok, first of all,SHE IS PRETTY HOT for her age ahahah (mid 40's) but also she is very intelligent and knows her stuff very well!, and on top of that very very FUNNY!! I would recommend her to everyone!!,seriously don't consider any other teacher, she is the one for you :D
BEST TEACHER IN COLLEGE THAT I EVER HAD,,,# 1 IN CLARITY AND HELPFULNESS....TAKE THIS PROF!
Takes difficult concepts and lays them out in fully understandable charts, pictures, and graphs. I had to go to a few diff labs this sem. and she was the best by far. Lab or lecture try to get into her class. Not only will you fully understand what you're supposed to learn, you'll know how to apply it and get a really good grade as a result!
Mary is probably the best professor I've had in the 4 years I've been in college (three different colleges). Tests are strictly from her notes, no textbook needed. Funny, engaging, and VERY knowledgeable. I felt like a sponge just sucking up all the information...I enjoyed her class thoroughly. If you have to take 251, TAKE IT WITH HER!
AWESOME....yupp her class was awesome fun and interesting...she did have her blonde moments...but shizz it made the class that more fun =] easy class if you know what youre doing =]
You don't need the text book for her lec. you only have to study her lec. notes which are all the questions on the tests. The only thing that is a little hard about her class is that you must get an 93% for an A and an 83% for a B. So you really have to do awesome to get an A. She is so cool though, her class is really fun and easy.
Mary is an awesome professor! She makes class very interesting and fun. She does move very fast, so recording lectures is reccomended. She explains things very well and goes over things that we need to know in the health field. You do have to get over a 93% to get an A, but if you take good notes and study, it is very obtainable.
Mary is a great professor. She doesn't require a text book but I attended every lecture and did some light text reading before the exams which were from a test bank :/ She is overall very nice, smart, and funny. I would take her again for Micro
She is a good teacher, too bad she's leaving after this semester. No need to buy a text book, read it in the library. Her lectures are good, although she gets off topic and wastes 10-15 minutes of good lecture time on stories. She does not think before she speaks and may offend some without knowing it. Still, a good teacher that CSN is losing.
I'll start with the negative things first...she takes TOO long to grade exams, is moody, gets too personal with students and can be offensive with some things she says to people. With that said, she is knowledgable and passionate about biology. I can't say I would take her again because of the negatives, but she is still good to learn biology from.
My experience in Biology 251 class under Mary Bennett is quite different from others. As a student, you can feel when a professor does not like you at all. Your mentality and concentration could be ruined. Although,I attended every single class, never late and tried all my best to study hard, Mary is not diversified at all. Beware!!
My opinion is summed up as this - 100% Unprofessional!!!
No text book required. Everything on tests and quizzes is covered in lecture, so if you write down everything she writes on the board and understand it you should be fine. Very helpful and clear. Explains things at a level most people can understand. Mary will definitely be missed at CSN and is a great instructor.
Loved this class. To be honest I was terrified to take this course b/c of horror stories. My counselor told of the 60% failure rate I hadnt taken Biology since H.S in 95-96! But I recorded every lecture & studied my a** off & earned every part of my A+! Shame she's gone bk to IA, best teacher @CSN has left the bldg. I will miss her. esp. for 251!
I took her in the summer and she was very helpful and easy to understand
I loved having Mary for summer 189!!!! She is a fantastic teacher!! Sadly she left us navadaians!!
Had her for Micro about 2 years ago and I can honestly say she was the best professor I ever had, at CSN or UNLV. This is the only class I ever looked forward to. She makes it fun and I loved her stories. I learned so much, things I am still referencing today. Sorry to here she left, even though I got an A, I would take the class again. Thanks Mary
Took her as "staff" (only class open) and was pleasantly surprised. 5 exams, 1 Final, No Midterm. A little fast-paced, but otherwise, if you study HARD: record lect. read over her PPT and take good notes, you'll do well. she's very relateable and super nice, helps you understand material. Exams aren't really too hard if you study. RECOMMEND!
Mary is such a good teacher. I have her for both lab and lecture this semester and she really is helpful. She takes her time to go over things that are hard and her tests are not that difficult if you take notes and always go to class. I highly recommend a recorder for this class since you will be introduced into concepts that can be confusing.
I have her for lab. She explains things well, but sometimes can go off on a tangent. Other than that, she is very helpful. I'm taking this class for the second time, so I don't really ask for help. She's still nice enough to check if I'm doing okay. I recommend.
Fabulous instructor. She's knows her stuff and wants to help others learn and understand it too. She's always available for questions & clarification. She teaches you ways to remember hard parts of the body.If you put in time & study, you should do well in her class. She genuinely cares and wants her students to succeed. LOVED HER and learned lots.
Mary is AWESOME! At first she may seem a bit rude if you dont listen to her instructions but she is sooo dang helpful and nice! I love her! I would have taken her for 224 but unfortunately her classes are mostly afternoons. :( I totally recommend her though! :)
Awesome! I loved her attitude. Shes verysmartand takes the time to truly help students. My definition of a great professor.
Excellent professor!Take her class without any doubts, you are not going to regret it. She is great explaining hard concepts and gives you all the help you need. Would definitely take her class again if I could.
I took her for BIO 223 & 224, and I love her. She explaines everything so that you can understand the physiology and anatomically of her lectures. Her exams are easy to understand as long as you study hard for it. Unlike, others instructions I felt like I would study a lot then when it comes to exams its like like foreign to me. She is a lot easier
Mary is wonderful! She is stylish and a great straight upfront teacher with all her material. She was an excellent lab teacher.
Easy A if you study. I recorded the lectures and they help. Book is not necessary. She is hands down the best BIOL professor they have at CSN. The key to success in her class is to record the lectures and not to study what you already know. I promise you wont regret taking her!
Professor Bennett, is amazing she is the female COLUMBO comes across likes she is a scatterbrain but actually she is a very intelligent woman. Record her lectures, show up to class. Book is secondary. Bennett's best quality is making difficult concepts simple.
Professor Bennett is pretty cool. She is fairly organized, and clear. She is funny and often cracks jokes but one thing that irritated me about her was that she always made the class finish her sentences for silly words. Like every couple seconds. It's a difficult class if you aren't into science. So study hard!
I have no clue why people are here saying that Mary is easy class.. Yes, she is nice and everything but come to the test. She tricks you. It is not easy class but she should of just tests what she teaches in class. She barely uses her note and study guild for the test! Not recommend if you need to pass this class to move on for you career.
She has a more than clear understanding of the material, study guides are seemingly written as though she is skimming through the slides she makes available so they are very helpful. She tests on what is talked about in class so don't miss class. I never read the book, just the notes and study guides she makes available. Idid great inclas(not lab).
If you are someone who has respect that this is a difficult class and not one to make excuses for yourself you will do well in this class. She gives you all you need, tests on things covered in class, the book isn't a must buy and she paints a clear picture of whats being discussed. Highly recommended
She makes leaning biology (a hard subject) understandable. Being in class is a must and the book required was barely used, but having her as a teacher was worth it! Yes, the tests are hard but if you study you'll be fine! Come to class, take your notes and make sure if you don't understand, ask!! She really is a great professor !!
Mary is a great professor. If you show up to class and study you will pass her test. If you come to class and understand the concept and don't study you can still pull a C on the test. She uses the same examples in class on the test. Fair grader and makes hard concept easy to understand .highly recommend taking her. summer course was fast pace
If you study, you should do well in this class.Took over the summer and definitely doable to get an A. Record lectures, take notes, watch videos on parts you have trouble with, and you should do fine.Questions are not at all tricky, maybe some here and there, but overall easy. Study guides DO "HELP". Just don't expect the study guide to be the test.
Mary is a good professor. Also Mary does not normally teach 189. She gives study guides for her tests.Exams are fairly easy. Final was a bit tougher though. She is a fairly fast grader. She also knows how to keep her lecture upbeat. Showing up to class is a must if you want to pass with a good grade! Would definitely take Mary for A&P.
She is an awesome professor. Everything I wanted in a Biology professor. Show up, take notes, tape the lectures and study. You will do great! She explains difficult concepts very well and keeps Bio interesting!
Mary is a good teacher, she really knows her stuff! Bio 189 is a very hard class to take, especially in the summer. Her tests are HARD so you need to know the material; do not just memorize, know how to apply the info, that is what her tests are. She's very nice, a little scattered and she loves to tell stories so she's interesting too!
Class is extremely hard in summer. Professor Bennett is extremely disorganized and forgets what she has or has not said in other classes she teaches at same time, be careful to listen well b/c her mistakes can cost you a grade. She does lecture well, but study guides waste of time, just record her lectures and base your studying off those!
Mary is a wonderful professor. She uses real life examples to help her students understand the concepts of what she is teaching. I found the study guides to be helpful. Don't memorize the material make sure you understand it and the best way to do that is by recording and listening to the lectures. This is not an easy class be sure to attend class.
I took this class during the summer and but wouldn't recommend it. Mary is very helpful however it's a lot of material to memorize and understand. Study guides don't really help. If you want to pass pretty much you have to understand everything in biology.
I took Mary Bennett for summer Bio 189 class & WOW did I learn ALOT. Its alot to absorb. She really knows her stuff, is nice & she offers to help. The tests are very hard but I think the entire school uses the same tests. She gives study guides which between her lectures, power points, the research for the study guides & the new book u can pass.
Very good teacher. Explains concepts in a very easy way to understand. Her ex. are really good. She has powerpoint. Highly recommend recording her classes. She has dyslexia, be careful of what she says, remind her if you think she did a mistake. She understands she makes mistake too. Helps a lot if you have questions. Easy tests if you study hard.
This teacher was the best teacher I have ever had. She is so personable and makes you want to come back. I had her for a summer class and I am so glad I had her. I was so nervous because it was going to be fast pace but it was awesome. Study guides, powerpoints, easy in class points. AWESOMEEEEEEE take her!
She is really funny, Uses analogies, Jokes, Happy to answer questions, and get distracted a lot. She talks about herself (VAIN) but somehow makes it to tie into lecture. She give easy in class assignments and dresses like she is going on a romantic date. NO BOOK used she does not like the book. make sure not to miss class or you could miss points
Awesome prof. Shes got a way of teaching that not only makes u interested in science but so that it sticks in ur memory. Shes funny & her lectures keep u interested. She knows her stuff & ties the topics into evryday life so u understand better. ALL prof should teach like her she makes learning science & biology fun!!! Wish I had her for 223
I took her for Bio 223 lecture and lab and got an A and now currently taking her for 224. Amazing teacher, she's a must. Hilariously in class and always cracking jokes. All lectures are powerpoint slides.
She is by far the best teacher I've ever had. I highly recommend taking her classes.
Mary is the best! She tries her best to make the material understandable. The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that you have to wait a week to receive your exam grade. The suspense would always kill me. I absolutely loved her for lab. She's very helpful and organized in lab. I recommend taking her for all you biology courses.
Mary is great! Rarely any homework, and bases the tests off of her lectures, so go to class! Uses the book as a reference. The tests were easy to understand. She uses powerpoints, and as long as you pay attention and attend every class you'll do well! Would highly recommend, and I am even taking her again for 223L, and hopefully 224!
Mary is the absolute best! She is so helpful and willing to go the extra mile for her students. Not only is she intelligent, but Mary is very personable and enjoys getting to know her students individually. This is my second time taking her and already signed up again for her next semester. Best teacher at CSN, hands down!!!
I took 224 lecture with mary. You should show up to class and record lectures. Tests go off everything covered in class which is all power points. She gives study guides prior to tests and occasionally handouts. I rarely used the book this semester. Would definitely recommend. As long as you show up to class and study powerpoints you will do well.
I had Mary for both lecture and lab this semester... She is AWESOME! Her tests all come from her power points... Make flash cards and study early it will help. Record her lectures as well it's helpful. Make sure you study study for both lecture and lab! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Will be taking her for 224 next semester!
G.O.A.T.!! I had Professor Bennett for 223 and 224. I highly recommend her regardless of your learning style. I recorded lectures, studied purely from the powerpoints, and didnt study anything I knew and I got an A in both classes. You will not regret taking her! PP
Ms. Bennet is very funny throughout class when giving examples about the material. She is just wonderful. She is very firm at times but didn´t bother me. She is very knowledgeable about biology and tests you on the material she discussed in class. Her teaching strategy is amazing that consiste with powerpoints and study guides.
Glad I took Mary for BIO 223. She explains the material in a way that was easy to understand. I definitely advise anyone taking Bio 223 to take her class.
Mary is a great professor. She explains very and you don't need the textbook. All you need is the power points and a lot of time to study on your own. I would suggest anyone to take her. Class is hard itself, and she doesn't make it more challenging than what it is.
Took her for Bio 189 & now for 223. She is an amazing teacher. The way she delivers her lectures & in lab helps the info to stick. She tells stories between subject matter to give your mind a rest & the stories relate to what message shes trying to convey so it helps with the association. I wish every teacher taught like her. Shes the best evr
How should i begin..? She is vague, writes slope on the board and doesnt follow her syllabus. The worst about her is that her exams are horribly hard. I know about half the class has dropped because of her lack of teaching. Dare to take her.
I took this professor last semester because of her good reviews, but be aware that all she does is read off a power point and she reads very fast. Her class is confusing and her exams are hard, I could not go past a C!!! I took this class again with Fred Jackson and so far I have an A.
currently taking this professor, she is a hard teacher to follow. Im having a hard time with understanding lecture and so are my classmates. About half the class received a C or below on her exams. I don't recommend her.
Mary is an absolutely amazing professor. One of the best biology instructors at CSN! Her lectures are very clear! The only problem is that she tends to get off-topic sometimes. Her tests are fair. It is a hard class and you have to study to get a good grade! She gives out study guides which sort helps. She also post notes online! no need for book!!
Really good. Had her for ap1 and 2. Uses powerpoint only no book purchase!! Tape lecture and you will get at least c or better. Funny too boot.
If you are simply trying to pass with a minimum of C, then take her. Because this class is hard. This was my 2nd time taking this class and I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER. she only reads off her powerpoint. You will learn nothing of anatomy taking her. She's way too difficult and will not teach the right subject.
Mary is awesome! It's challenging because I've not taken biology. However, Mary uses cool analogies & gives study guides to help you succeed. If someone is complaining about her lectures, maybe they should pay attention in class instead of texting or being lazy. She gives you what you need for tests.. The easiness of the class is subjective.
Super easy. Posts everything online. Complete class notes and study guides are on canvas so there is no need to go to class and take notes. She gives some in class examples but you really miss nothing by not attending class
I have never taken a class as hard as this one. I am confused most of the time. I study for hours every day for each exam and quiz and I haven't received anything over a D. She is a wonderful person and I'm sure her teaching style works for some people. But if you are not an auditory learner do not take her. The exams are the hardest...
Mary is a nice & intelligent person. However, I don't think she realizes her students aren't nearly as knowledgeable in BIO as she is. Her tests r brutal. The study guides are more like a huge ungraded homework assignment tht takes hrs to complete. Once u take the tests, u'll realize u're SOL bcuz what u've studied isn't on the test. Good luck!
Hands down the best AP professor at CSN. She's an angel absolutely loved her. exams are very straightforward. recommend to record her lectures. She is very funny too. I always looked forward to her class. Great in lab too. I don't know where all these haters are coming from but i can assure you she is the easiest and best ap instructor. Thanks Mary
It was my second time taking this class and it was hard for me since English is not my first language. Professor Bennett is the best professor Ever. She is extremely prepared for this class and explain everything very well. Take her.. you won't regret it! Thank you Mary :))
Took her for the summer. Ms. Bennett is a fun teacher, she gives examples and goes over the material many times. She asks whether we are understanding or not. There are study guides for quizzes and exams make sure to do them! there are questions on the exam that you really have to think through, its basically applying what you learn to real life.
I took the condensed summer course. As long as you attend every class and study you will pass. I also attended the bio lab as often as I could. She tells funny stories that somehow relate to the class. This definitely helped break the seriousness of the material covered. Overall I would highly recommend her.
There is just something about Mary! I love her, she's the best! I was dreading taking this class - especially in the summer - but it was an awesome class due to Ms. Mary. She's not easy, but she's good and you'll learn a lot from her.
Amazing teacher! Read reviews before class and was nervous about this class. But now I'm not sure why people complained about her. If you've never had any biology experience than yes, it is a hard class. But if you go to class, pay attention and study than no worries. She gives study tips on how to succeed on the first day. LISTEN TO HER.
Hard class, but she is awesome. Explains the material well, and makes the concepts easy to understand. A&P 2 is not an easy class, go in knowing that it will require hard work to get a good grade.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! You will learn nothing. She has great ratings because shes nice. but other than that her teaching is horrible. She tends to speak really fast and you will miss her point. Horrible!
Her study guide is like studying the dictionary. Question in questions. I cry every time there's an exam. Not because it's a hard class but because I chose the wrong professor. Her exam questions are difficult. I wouldn't recommend any one to take her unless they are a genius.
Maybe her enthusiasm has died off as being a biol professors because this semester she hasn't been that great with teaching. I took her in the fall of 2013 and took her in the spring. Major difference.
This is my second time taking this class. Her exams are hard. plan to study your butt off for it.
This wouldn't be a difficult class but she makes the concept harder than anything. I hate her class because she doesn't give good notes. This class is a waste of time. i would rather take a different professor.
I took Mary for Bio 223 I thought she was very intelligent and I enjoyed her lectures. I think I would have done better in the very difficult class if the SUPER long exam reviews included any of the material on the exam. I recorded all the lectures which I recommend with any instructor in bio or chem. Take her if you must.
must take class! Mary is the best Science professor at CSN if you want an easy A go back to high school!this is college you have to read your notes and study to learn and pass a test that is how it is with any professor! another benefit to taking mary's class is her study guide is almost identical to the questions that will be on the exam
I have no idea what half of the other posts are about. Mary is BY FAR the best biology teacher at CSN. People are used to taking social sciences courses and getting A's, this is biology people; you have to work for your A if you want it. Her lectures are very thorough and she gives you more than enough study material to do well. Just study!!
You should record the lectures. If you want an "A" you need to put the time and effort in. Exam questions are from her powerpoint. She's clear and brilliant. I love her. She makes microbiology interesting.
Loved Mary Taking her for A&P and Micro after 189. She is great at explaining the subject. Tests are hard but all biol tests are hard.
224 is mostly physiology. She's a cool and likeable professor. Print out her notes and RECORD her lectures, some info are not in the notes. The info on her study guide will be on the tests. STUDY your butt off and don't slack.
Her class consist of power-points and is very clear on what she will test you on. Whatever she lectures in class is what she will test on. Biology is not an easy class so if you think you can leave out study until the last minute you are in for a reality check. Overall she is amazing! I followed her for 2 biology classes. She is very funny and hot!
A really great professor. She keeps the lecture very interesting and gives you life examples that make it hard to forget the topic at hand. Lectures are PowerPoint that follow the book. So if you're going to skip class make sure you read that chapter and then read PowerPoint. Tests are multiple chose with essay at the end.
She's the best A&P professor. I had Aulner the first time around, but he adds in extra stuff you don't need. Mary's clear cut and she gives you exactly what you need to pass. STUDY STUDY STUDY and go to class. She makes concepts easier to understand. Just read the powerpoints and do the study guides and you'll pass.
Best lab instructor hands down. She is very knowledgeable in microbiology and thoroughly explains everything we are doing. Takes her time make sure we are not confused and that we know what to expect for quizzes and practicals. Labs are long though but it was worth it, I studied maybe an hour or so before each quiz.
Amazing lecturer. Power points are VERY useful. She is knowledgable. Studying is a MUST. Recording her lectures will give you a huge advantage. Biology is NOT easy, but if you want to learn, her classes will benefit you in the long run and will help you make connections. Don't be afraid to use outside sources like youtube to understand processes.
I loved Mary! She's makes Micro fun and actually gives you extra points on tests which no other Bio teacher does! She's funny and knows a lot about everything, sometimes she goes out on random tangents but always finds her way back. No text book! Only power points. She does say stuff in her lectures that will show up a test so make sure you attend.
I took Mary's class for Biol 223 & 251 lecture and lab. She is a great instructor and has life experience in the field of biology which she uses to help you relate to the material. Her grading is fair. If she makes a mistake, she owns it and corrects it. I would definitely recommend taking her courses.
Took Mary for Bio. 223 this semester. She was funny and willing to answer questions. However, her test are tough but that is to be expected when taking Biology. As long as you go to class and put in the time to study you should pass. I plan on taking her for Bio. 224.
Professor Bennett is a great teacher. She's very serious but still makes lots of jokes! Her exams are long and tough but they're based off of her PowerPoints so just make sure you read and learn everything prior to taking the exams! Her lectures are fun and not boring!
Mary is the best professor i have had thus far at CSN. She is truly passionate about teaching and micro was enjoyable because of it. Do not think she is easy, because you do have to study hard to pass. You get what you put in. She only tests on her powerpoints not making you have to wonder what will and will not be on exams.
I had the good fortune of taking Ms. B. I feel that she gives you what you need to know. Her exams are based off PowerPoint. She does get off tract with stories, but they're funny and usually relate to the topic she's teaching. If you can take her then do so without hesitation. I took 223 with this class as well and passed them both with B's.
Ms. Bennett is a really awesome teacher. Her tests are based on her powerpoint lectures. Attend class and study powerpoints and you'll pass. She's funny too and she's got great storiesexamples for topics.
3 ways to pass her class? record, notes, study guides. Most of her lectures are powerpoint. There will be a lecture that is "class notes" don't skip that. Come to class everyday because she sometimes gives out stuff in class and she won't post those online. Awesome prof. Really tries to make it easy for us. Exams are easier than other profs.
Mary was the best professor I have ever had. As long as you study hard, you'll get an A. I got an A even though I was going to the graduate school every day but I took her class at night. I was never tired in her night class because she made the class so interesting that I kept looking forward to it every week.
Professor Bennett is funny,i give her that. Although if you are not doing too good in her class or not one of the students who took her in the past, she definitely won't care about helping you out. She also puts questions on the exams that are not on the slides or the study guides. She can definitely improve MUCH MORE!
Ms. Bennett is amazing. I loved her lectures, she always made it interesting and funny by adding her own personal stories into the subject. Will miss her class!
Prof Bennett is sassy. She talks in a way that her lectures wont be boring, expect stories from her cats. She doesn't recommend reading your text before her lectures. Make sure to study her power points, 90% of her quizzes and exams are based on her slides. If this is your first college science class, take it alone.
I took this class over the summer so it was fast paced; however, Mary still managed to thoroughly explain each chapter so that her students had a clear understanding of the topic. She also didn't mind staying after class a few minutes to go over anything that was misunderstood in lecture. Exams were hard but her study guides really helped.
I just finished my summer class with Mary and I must say I was absolutely terrified of Biology because of a previous professor I had last semester. But Mary made every class interesting and made sure everything was very clear to everybody. She is very reasonable on her grading. STUDY HER POWERPOINTS!!!! You will pass! :)
I recommend taking your Biology classes with Miss Bennett! She is good at explaining hard material and very helpful. It is important to record the classes and study as much as you can. You cannot procrastinate at all! I would definitely take her again! I learned a lot!!
Very attractive teacher :). Record the lectures and answer the study guide question. Exams can be tricky but she gives about 80 questions so you could miss 7 and still get and A.
This is definitely not an easy class, especially in the summer which was when I took it. I almost thought this was going to be my first B in college. There is so much information that you must know but Mary is a wonderful professor and always finds a way to relate what she is teaching to everyday life and makes it fun. Her studyguides help so much!
Mary is by far one of the best professors I've ever had. She makes lecture entertaining and teaches tricks on ways to remember concepts. Lectures go on tangents sometimes. Shes very smart and has had lots of real world experience. Tests are only from lectures, no need for the book. Some test questions are worded funny and confusing. A-rare, C- aver
I took Mary for the first time last spring and most of the students were her followers from previous classes, that was the first indication that she would be just great, she truly gives you all the tools for success, she is ready going, full of stories, and so wise,I have become officially another one of her followers lol, just plain amazing.
I took her spring '15. PowerPoint were organized. Her exams were very fair and extremely fair at grading. She actually looks to see if a certain percentage of students got a certain question wrong and will give you the point. She will explain things over to you. Feel free to ask questions. She loves to talk! Taking her again for 224. Recommend book
Mary is a walking biology encyclopedia. Literally takes hard topics for students with no prior knowledge in bio and breaks it down so that everyone is able to earn an A. Do not skip her class, quizzes and exams are all based on PP. Textbooks was not needed at all. Her exams were very straightforward and actually easy if you attend lectures.
Notes are up on a PowerPoint and expect a lot of stuff that you have to read. I got a B as my final grade from spending a lot of time studying. Lectures in class helps with eliminating some of the stuff that you don't have to memorize for quiz and tests. Pretty straight forward. You can't fail it. Very good Professor. Would take again.
Awesome prof. Cares about her students and their grades. Gives you tips on how to study for exams. Study guides, charts, pictures, ppt and recording lectures are all you need to pass her class. Hardly used book unless for the chart. She loves dressing up and shoes. Her way of teaching really worked on me and I understand easily compared to others.
This is an extremely hard subject to wrap my mind around. She is very knowledgable in her field, and uses a lot of stories and examples to help you understand a concept better. Don't slack off on any of the exams and DO THE OBJECTIVES. They are so helpful. Really hard exams and subject overall. Great teacher and powerpoints.
Be prepared to study long hours! Mary covers small details during class that aren't on the slides that will be on exams. Exams are multiple choice and matching only. The muscle section was the toughest. She asked a lot of what if this didn't function... what would happen then kind of ?s. Textbook was never used for lecture but needed for lab.
She is absolutely amazing. I took her A&P2 lecture course and I truly feel like I learned so much. She is very clear in her descriptions of processes and if not just ask and she will explain better or in a different way. By far the best teacher I have ever had. Definitely not an easy A, you MUST study just because there is a lot of info.
Mary Bennett Is one of the best professors I have had at CSN. She is great at explaining the topics that are covered in the class by telling stories that help you to remember the information needed on exams and giving study guides. 223 is not an easy class but so long as you study you will be fine.
223 wasn't too difficult in understanding concepts, just required a lot of time to study & memorize A LOT of info. She explained the topics very well & MC exams were straight forward (based on lectures). Never used the book (only used it for lab) or study guides. Go to class with her PP's, record lectures, take notes, listen to them again & study.
What can I say about Mary, other than she is AWSOME! I had her for both A&P I and II. She makes things so easy to understand. She is caring and funny. Because of Mary, I made it through bio! Never opened the book, everything off p.p. and lectures. Record lectures or take good notes, cause it will be on the exam.
She is the best lecture professor I've ever had! No homework, it's all exam based. Her power-points are very useful for the exams and she lets you record her lectures, which I highly recommend doing. The exams are very tuff so be sure to stay on top of her lectures and notes.
There's a reason her classes fill first. She literally had a wait list for each class and all other classes were open. She is an amazing professor that makes you want to learn more and more. She teaches in a way that makes science easy to understand. It's hard going from her to another science professor who's just average. Believe the rumors.
By far the best biology teacher that I have taken in my 4 year college career! She loves what she teaches and makes it easy to understand! Truly lucky to get this professor!
She couldn't have explained it any better. Tests are 70-85 questions long. 5 exams, 1 final. No hw. DEFINITELY STUDY a lot, especially brain/nerve lectures! Record lecture too (it helps), do objectives with flash cards. All about memorization. & don't be late to class -she hates it. Very helpful and gives really good lectures!
She's one of the best professors I've taken since I began college in 2008. She sincerely cares if you pass or not. I can't say enough nice things. Her tests are fair and she covers all the material in her lectures. She uses awesome powerpoints. My favorite thing she does is that she uses hilarious stories to explain topics. Definitely helps me!
Take her class, she's easily the best teacher at CSN!!!
Mary is the most humble professor's I've had. I took her for 223 and 224 and she is amazing. Great lectures. I didn't really use my book too often since her exams are mainly over her power points but the book does help alot. Study hard that is the only way to really get a good grade. I do pray that her health gets better. She is a beautiful soul!
She is an outstanding instructor. I recommend you record the lectures and listen to them while driving if you dont have much time to study. Print out PPT she uses them for lecture. She does a great job on keeping you awake and telling stories relating to the material. Cannot say more, just take her class you. Comprehensive test at end. Study daily!
Mary is an overall decent teacher. Textbook was not needed, but she does use powerpoints. WAY too many info on powerpoints, so be prepared to study...A LOT. 4-6 hrs/day at least. Her exams SEEM straightforward, BUT it really isnt! Wording is differently than her lectures & powerpoints. So test yourself in a way she WOULD test you or drop the class
Mary is a great teacher, I love her and Im lucky to have her for 224 next term!! She truly cares for her students and tries to make lectures easy to understand. She gives students study guide and provides practice test. I highly recommend coming to class, take good notes and if you can record her lectures and listen to it later.
She lectures heavy & is all over the place & will test you on things she never covered in class via lecture or Powerpoint. Tests are super hard and she LOVES to put trick questions. I'm an A/B student and this is the first time I've gotten a C. AVOID!
I scored with Mary! She has nailed lecturing this class. Love her stories relating to the topics that helped me learn the material. Uses extremely helpful PP slides. Grades fairly. Exams were challenging but not terrible. Responded to emails quickly. Wish Id taken her for 223. 1st science class I havent nodded off in b/c she makes it interesting.
Mary Bennett is a real gem!!! She is very clear on lectures, all her power points is what you will be tested on, that's it. 5 exams and 1 final. 5 online quizzes, that are easy A's!
She is an amazing professor! Take her! She grades off her power points and provides 10pt quiz's that chunk out material for the exams. She literally gives you everything you need to succeed in this class. It helps that she knows how to keep class interesting and engaging, time seems to fly by during her lectures.
Excellent lecturer sticks in memory Very knowledgeable Quizzes online Exams only off lectures take notes easy A for lec Only 1 q from 5 exams wasnt covered & was in book but bonus points more than makes up for that 1 q 4/5 exams have practice online Make sure to look at each exam in her office hrs for final Shes as close to perfec as youre gonna ge
Shes the best!!! I took her during summer time. she makes the lecture very interesting. She explains everything very well. She uses different scenarios in our daily living where we can relate or understand the lectures in a very easy way. She gives study guides and practice exams that will help you a lot. I would love to take her again.
Mary is by far the best professor I've ever had, this subject is TOUGH! worked 2 jobs and took a full course load, got a B in her class, its doable guys but you MUST STUDY HARD or you will not pass, I'm talking like 4-6 hours a day. Uses power points, stories and interesting facts, explains everything very well.
Prof Bennett is the BEST BIO Prof at CSN. She does not rely on her power point. She actually expands the lesson and gives you analogies to understand it even more. She made BIO fun!
I love her, she is so sweet and nice and her stories make you really understand things. She gives lots of notes but she divides them in little amounts per page so its easy to digest. Long test but if you study youre fine.
Mary is an amazing instructor. She is the first professor that I have had that genuinely cared and wanted her students to do well. She was honest about the material being hard, but she always presented it in a way with her powerpoints and stories that made it easier to digest. Test are difficult but offers quizzes for each unit.
Mary is great. She makes the lecture easy to follow and interesting. She has many stories to tell that relate to the information. Im excited to take Mary next semester for my 251 class. I know I will get through it with her as my instructor. Class is tough, but she tests off of the power points. Study them.
I took her for A&P 223 last semester, she states that the tests are off the power points, but not entirely. Honestly if you just study the power points and dont go to class you wont pass. She states things that are not even on the power point. The questions on the exam do not coincide with the power point either. She is also all over the place.
Mary is hilarious and uses life examples in lectures. Although that may be the case her quizzes are old and repetitive with the same questions repeated. Practice exams arent similar to the actual exam either. She states that the exams are based on power point, but she says things in lecture so get ready to record her. Should update power points.
shes all over the place doesn't give good quiz and practice exams were not helpful on the exams. most questions on exam were not on power point prepare to study and record.
When reading her reviews i thought she would be great, but you should really take her good reviews to a grain of salt. You MUST record her, PPts are old and she says ALOT of things that arent on her PPts. She will most likely test you on what she says than whats on her PPts. She is all over the place and also rude.
Mary is amazing. She gives real life examples which make the material stick. Her practice exams are really helpful. The tests are based on the power points but you still must study. Biology is difficult regardless of the professor you take. Attendance isn't mandatory but I can't see doing well if you don't go. She really explains it well.
Mary was an amazing lab professor. This lab is the hardest lab I've ever taken, but she is willing to help and answer all your questions. She's so nice and approachable that it made learning the material much easier. Get ready to study, study, study for the this lab, lots of memorization. If possible take Mary!!!
I adore Mary! I've had her for 223 and 224. She is so much fun and really cares about her students. A&P is a challenging subject - no matter who you have. But she really brings it to life and wants for her students to succeed. She has been my favorite college professor!
This teacher is amazing. Let me tell you how to get an A: Come to class. Listen and take notes. Go home and review what you learned that day, listening to the lecture again. Study your butt off. Take the practice tests 1-2 times. Then memorize her powerpoints. Her tests are off her powerpoints. And she is AMAZING. You'll learn a ton!
If you are in her class, don't buy the book, you won't need it EVER. Her tests are 99.99999% off her powerpoints, and there is a TON of info on them! She does talk fast and there is a lot of information to learn in A&P classes, so youtube is a great resource to really reinforce what you're learning. #1 Tip: know her PPs backwards and forwards!
This is a weeder class for nursing school. It's not supposed to be easy! You need to know this stuff, so be prepared to WORK and come in with the desire to understand and retain. If you have the right attitude, this isn't a hard class. Challenging? yes. Impossible? absolutly not. And Mary is AMAZING. She really makes it as fun as it could be!
Want to know how great she is? There are 8 of us, sitting in a study group, who saw that she had some negative ratings and we all went BALLISTIC! We all stopped studying, pulled out our laptops, and decided to load our own reviews because she is amazing. TAKE HER! GET IN HER CLASS!!!! She deserves ALLLLLLL the 5 star reviews! We LOVE YOU MARY!
I had Mary for three classes. She is great. She is hard, though. You do have to study to do well in her class. 99% of her tests come directly from her powerpoint slides. Occasionally you will have a fact thrown in from her lectures, but her lectures really, really help solidify the information. Study off the slides - not the study guides.
Prof. Mary is a very nice lady. She is caring. She makes her lectures interesting. Be thankful you dont have to pay for a textbook due to her hard work putting a good PP to teach. But with that being said, you can't just skip class and expect to pass. If you dont want to come to class, take an online class. Study and dont procrastinate to get an A.
Mary is a great teacher. She has a passion for the subject that really rubs off on you when you take her class. No textbook needed - her tests are completely off her slides. You do need to come to class. (Duh. You're it college. You paid for this! Get your money's worth.) If you work hard, you'll get a good grade.
I can't imagine not loving Mary. I think only pampered millennials would actually complain about her class requiring you to actually COME to class. Those few ratings made me laugh out loud. Obviously, come to class. You'll need to. But she is fair. Fun. Exciting. Her class is amazingly interesting. I highly recommend recording her lectures.
Her class has been great! You do have to come to class, but you're not going to die if you miss a couple. Her tests are very much off her powerpoints, so no book needed. She is very helpful and knowledgable.
Mary is Amazing. I'm pretty shocked that she has such a high rating on how hard her class is. I find that if I come to class, that's almost enough to get an A on the test. I read through her powerpoint a few times after each class and do well on her tests. She is fun and a great teacher!
I love Mary because she values student learning. When we have questions, she takes the time to answer - even if it puts her behind in her schedule. We had an incredible lecture where we really dug into the subject and got behind a whole class, but I'll never forget that info! She isn't a walk in the park - you have to work. But you can get an A!
I had Prof. Bennett for 189 last summer. I know she is mainly a A&P professor, so i was a little worried about taking it with her. I am so glad I did because I have been able to really use what I learned in my A&P classes. I feel like her focus was to prepare us so succeed in A&P and I really have!
I have really loved Mary's 223 class this semester. Her lectures are easy to follow and the information you need to learn for the tests is very clearly laid out in her power point presentations. I have been able to do well just by coming to class and then memorizing her powerpoints. She is really funny too. I have enjoyed learning.
Mary is the best!! This is my second time taking her. The first time I wasn't prepared and I wasn't doing well in my lab class, but this time around was different. She is the best, her lectures are great. What she has on her powerpoints is what will be on the exams. Just study, study, study. Do the study guides too!
Shes wordy (use a lot of complex words when she could say it more simpler to understand) Her lecture is everywhere. She went over so fast in class. None of her study guide worth to even take a look at it. Practice exam not helpful at all. Her exam required critical thinking!Key: Record her lecture, listen back to it and write everything she said!
She is just amazing. Uses powerpoints. I had BIOL223 with different professor before - it was much harder. Mary Bennett made it interesting and easier to remember
I am really going to miss Mary! I've had her for two semesters. I loved her lectures and her powerpoint were clearly laid out. 224 is a LOT of information and I studied all the time. Ended the class today with an A-. I was taking Micro at the same time (got an A in there.) That made for a very busy, hard semester. But, I loved her as a teacher!
Mary is great! This class is hard, and so is lab. You HAVE to study to do well. I studied 10+ hours/week for lab quizzes & 15+ hours for each lecture exam. Her powerpoints are clear and explicit. Record lectures, and listen to them again while going over your notes. She is very kind, even lets you view what you missed on exams. I'd take her again!
Lively lectures. A Lot of side stories(I suppose to help relate the material). Practice tests not very helpful. Goes over whats exactly on the power point so not extremely necessary to attend class unless you need to hear it being explained. Explains material in a dummy down way and it doesn't help because exams are worded COMPLETELY different.
I have taken A&P 1 & 2 at another college and got a B and an A, but I barely got D- from her. Her powerpoints are too much information that could be narrow down more. Practice quiz doesn't help at all. No class participation points nor extra credits. Exam heavily and doesn't clear grading. I graduated with horner but this class was a nightmare!
Mary is an amazing teacher! She is very caring and makes this class fun and as easy as she can make it. The material is hard, so study study study! I took her for Bio 223 and 224. She is truly a gem!
I took this class during the summer, which I thought would be super challenging. However, her lectures are very lively and she relates topics to life events which helps differentiates terminology. I would definitely take her again for A&P. Textbook not required, exams are based off lectures only. Super friendly & approachable. Loved her class!
GREAT PROFESSOR! Took her summer class and it was very challenging but if you put in the work you will pass the class. Never read the textbook. Record lectures! Khan academy helps as well. Utilize the extra material she gives and go to her office hours. Very friendly and gives many opportunities to do better in the class. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Mary Bennet is the best professor Ive ever had. Her lectures are interesting. She gives you little facts about the body that make it interesting and memorable. (Ex. How Botox works, how pain medicines work) Shes also really funny. She gives student more than enough materials to be successful. She also helpful in office hours. Do her study guides!
Mary has been on of my favorite professors ever. She makes anatomy interesting and easy to follow. I always thought I was "bad" at science until her class. I most likely will pass with a B because she is so good at explaining things. Record her lectures, go to class, and study!!
Mary is great! Make sure that you understand the process - not just the facts. Her tests require critical thinking. I never bought a book, and solely used her powerpoint + some youtube videos when I needed more info. Definitely requires hours of study, but she made it fun. She really prepared me for nursing school, and I can recall lots!
Mary is hands down the best biol professor at CSN. She does her best to breakdown the material in a way that students can relate. With the transition to online classes, she went above and beyond with her videos and helped big time during lab as well. I had taken her in dif classes and will take her any time she is available. Oh and she is fun too.
Im lucky to be writing this because all the lab sections at the time were full. BIOL224 lab is way easier compared to 223 lab. Mary is a GEM when it came to lab. Study the material beofre coming in so you can ask questions. It WILL help. The in person experience was great imo. I was the only guy so you can guess why it was great :) Thank you Mary!!
At the beginning of the semester, that there was no need to purchase the book. WRONG. She reuses the same PP, exam, and study guides from 2013! She ignores your emails, hides your quizzes and exams and refuses to show you what you got wrong to better yourself. Makes promises to correct her errors and never does. No HW, but not worth it.
What a horrible Professor. She continued to not only be unhelpful throughout my struggles to catch up, but also BLATANTLY disrespect me. I emailed her asking for help and I was told my hastiness and inability to follow instructions is what got me into this predicament. Mind you I am a deans list student. Safe to say I went to her boss after that!
Took her online class - Horrible! Lectures and tests questions were complicated rather than straight forward. Doesn't use the definitions she has on her power points so make sure you understand the meaning or concept. I think she made the online class harder due to students cheating because it was just so heavy with unnecessary information IMO.
Professor Mary is very straight forward in her lectures. You have to work for your grade but she give you all the information you need and her lecture videos really helped. Online classes are not easy but she provided more resources than other online classes I have taken. I am looking forward to taking her in person for 224
Professor Bennett tried to make the online classes feel like they were in person. She answered all my emails ( even ones at midnight) and had extra question and answer sessions to help us. I will be taking her 224 class this summer.
Mary has her con and pros shes an amazing teacher tho her exams tricky. You have to study study study to Get that A. All of the material is given but expects your to be knowing everything to get that A. Overall not terrible heard worse. Really wish we could do something to get more points in 223
Now at the end of the term, Mary is a great professor her test are just tricky. She is from what Ive heard the best to take your anatomy course than any other professor. Mary can get to the point or you might need to do a little bit more work to find that correct answer.
I really enjoyed Professor Bennett. She was nice and always so helpful. Her quizzes are quite easy if you study for them. I excelled in the lab portion in A&P, lecture is much more difficult. I didnt have her for lecture though. She gives you everything you need to succeed you just have to study, lots!
Biol 224 is a tough class in itself. Mary takes the time to explain each topic and create connections to real life example. I learned tons from her lectures. She post all of her old videos online, but I recommend coming to lecture if you want to pass. 6 test and 6 quizzes. Never opened the book so I dont see a need to buy one.
I've had Mary for 223 and 224 and wouldn't recommend her enough. She fits the best type of teaching style for me personally. She always brings in real life situations to connect to what we are learning. Prof aren't allowed to give extra credit but she does fit some in different ways. Watch her recorded videos and come to class to get the best grade
Mary is a great person, but I didn't enjoy her class. Tests, practice tests, and quizzes are full of errors and repeat questions with opposing answers. Her powerpoints and lectures can be disorganized and confusing. Practice tests dont represent actual tests. Make a point to study which tissues make up which organs. Making drawings helped me a lot!
she was a good lab professor but sometimes felt like she would be annoyed for asking questions on the location of certain things and also would shame the class if they missed something collectively on the quiz. she was clear on grading criteria for quizzes however stickers were placed awkwardly on quizzes which often caused confusion.
Mary is a wonderful professor. I know people rate her because of personal encounter but; I rate her as a wonderful and the kind of professor I would like to have in the future. She's not perfect but she tries to be available. I didn't attend class all the time but her power points are everything. Good luck to future biology students you got this.
Passionate and knowledgeable. Shes clear when teaching but is a little fast pace. Her class is difficult but her exams are very long be prepared, its better to have higher amount of questions though to off set any missed. 85 questions + labeling sheets on exams. Provides study material to prepare for class, you just have to make the time for it.
I loved Professor Mary! She is great! She was funny, caring, and helpful. I enjoyed listening to her lectures she applies them to real life situations! Her test are a little hard! But she gets all her test questions from her lectures and power points so take good notes and review! If you review and study hard you will pass her class!
Grades come from tests and quizzes(easy). Textbook not used, all study material from powerpoint and lecture(dont skip). Her lectures are interesting and easy to follow. Dont be late to lectures or exams because she will call you out. Lastly, study for the final exam in advanced(at least a few days because there are tons of material to go through)
Do not take this professor, I regret I did. If you can choose someone else, please do. Once you get behind she won't help you even though she clearly sees you struggling in the course. Not worth the time and money.
Taking it as a summer 8 week course is not easy BUT she made it EASY! Buying the book was pointless, everything on the exam is on her powerpoints! Record the lecture, rewatch&take notes is what will help you! Its all memorization, questions are straight forward. I will say this, you have to put in the work! dont be like the person below me.
Please do not listen to the 1 star review. She is kind and caring. I am currently taking her 8 week course and it was very very difficult but I do not regret one bit taking it with her. She made the lectures enjoyable. You do not need the book just the pp and record the lectures! No trick questions with her as long as you work hard and study.
Currently taking her 8 wk summer course and BIOL 223 is not an easy class but she made it easy! Her exams are based off her powerpoints and things she mentions in class, lots of memorizing but her questions are straight forward and as long as you put the time and effort to study her material you will pass! She's been my favorite professor thus far
One of the best professors I have. Explains topic very well. Her lectures are hilarious but very informative. I was having second thoughts on doing the 8 weeks but still decided to do it since I heard nothing but good things from her. When she tells you to start studying today you start. Never regretted having her as my professor!
Professor Bennett is a fantastic professor who loves to teach, is realistic about needed knowledge of the subject to pass, and expects lab attendance.
Mary is a truly stellar professor. She's exceptional at keeping our attention during lectures &has a great sense of humor. Her exams are based solely on her lectures therefore I'd advise you take thorough notes &pay attention. Our grades were given to us quickly &she made herself available to review exams. I highly recommend taking Mary's class.
Mary was amazing , YES I FAILED but it was 100% on me because i got lazy and didn't study at all but the way she taught was very clear, answered any questions, tests and lab quiz were very clear , only tested on what she taught in class very friendly / fair , cares about her students , would 100% take her again and actually study this time lol .
Mary is amazing, her lectures and slides are clearly organized, there are no trick questions on exams, everything comes straight off of power points. she wants her students to succeed and is very reachable during office hours and outside of class. I will be taking her for Micro! if you can TAKE HER for any biology course!
Mary is passionate and super knowledgeable about science. She's also extremely kind, genuine, and very funny. I would be thrilled to take one of her classes again in the future.
You are losing If you are new to science and not in this class! Prof Bennett made an intimidating situation feel breezy the way she structured her lectures via modules and in person. Very engaging and give great real life examples to help understand the material. Will be seeing her again in 224!
She is a really great professor. Loved the way she taught and how she used a lot of real life examples, it made it easier to understand. 10/10 recommend!!
the important things: - at the lectures she is just reading the power point and telling her personal stories which has nothing to do with the topic. - the exams has a lot of "critical thinking" questions that were never discussed in class. maybe because there was no time left after telling her jokes. - the lectures are not in line with the lab
Non organized , after her lecture you confused more
Is not that these professors are nice, or not .So please leave a review about their methodology of teaching and testing . Her teaching is 50/50 : pp slides and videos or verbal explanations. Exams questions uses different terminologies not mentioned in p.p. slides. So, yes, use the book , learn from other sites too.
She was great! Material is covered quickly b/c there's a lot to get through ie. it's important to watch her supplemental videos (though may not be posted if students don't attend class). Study the power points thoroughly. Record lecture and re-listen to it (xtra material). She is fair and compassionate, but don't be lazy. Study, and you'll do fine.
She is very friendly, HOWEVER her lectures are rushed since she goes off on tangents a lot; it gets worse towards the last 20-30mins where she rushes a ton of material. Her exams are extremely hard because she likes to ask questions not provided on her lectures (or on any of the material she provides); be prepared to blindly read through textbooks
Mary is truly the best professor I've ever had, she cares about her students very much and wants us to do the very best we can. Mary gives you every advantage to do well in this class, she has study guides, practice exams, and video/audio lectures. Her exams are straightforward and give you a chance to prove what you know.
Mary was an amazing professor for Bio 224 and i could only guess that she is amazing in every bio class! Exams are based on her slides and lectures so no need for the textbook! practice exams were helpful, and good study habits are necessary to get an A! Go to office hours for any clarification you need! would highly recommend everyone to take her!
The best science professor, wish I would've taken for 223/224! Her lectures are the best. Make sure you audio record her lectures and study her power points with it. She gives out good examples that stick. Overall she wants you to pass, she makes the exams straight forward with the power points, no tricks at all. I can go on and on, take her class!
Fantastic lecturer. Grade is comprised of 5 exams, 6 quizzes, and a comprehensive final. Provides almost all the lectures online as videos, as well as practice exams through Canvas to prepare you for the exams. Shes awesome, but the class is still fairly difficult with tons of information.
She is an amazing professor. She explained complicated subjects very easy to understand. She makes a lot of jokes, and I enjoyed her lectures. She provided us with practice exams, which helped me immensely. I wish I could retake her for 224, but it was already full.
The material is being explained like for 11 y. o. BUT exam' questions = Harvad It is a huge discordance between info you will see in these exams/ quizzes and what she is teaching PP slides are missing lots of imp info, imp terms. I used outside materials for that A not because she was that dedicated. Don't fall for the personality reviews.
She is very sweet, however, she goes off topic on her lectures. A lot. She posts extra material on Canvas and its videos of her lecturing. They're helpful to watch, but she teaches the SAME thing in person and goes over the SAME content. Her exams aren't that bad. I love her she's so sweet and funny, but when it comes to her lecturing ehhh
Biol 223 and 224 are not hard classes if you have good study skills, but having a good teacher makes it so much easier. I don't care what any other review says Mary knows her stuff explains it WELL. She is straight foward with her teaching and absolutely hilarious. Extremely approachable if you don't understand a topic and I'm so lucky I got her.
Amzing at teaching lecture. She teaches in short increments then finds ways to get the class reengaged in the lecture when you start loosing focus, this is done by her cracking hilarious jokes or giving amusing anecdotes that tie in to the lesson. I would recommend to skim/read through the textbook chapters to get a better view of the material.
Mary is great! She has clear and to the point lectures, adds in hilarious stories & real life examples to further explain concepts. I do think you have to read the text book to do well. She gives excellent lectures but there is other, more in depth material in the book that is on the tests.
One of the best professors I have taken at CSN! She really knows her stuff and cares about her students' success. Very easy to talk to as well. There is a lot of information in this course so I would really recommend you study as hard as you can.
I took her online. Just study the powerpoints and you will do fine! A lot of material but I like her tests as they are straight forward questions. I also like how she explains things to understand.
Professor Bennett is an engaging lecturer who uses humor to keep the class invested. The material can be challenging, but her practice exams and unstuckstudy ai make excellent study tools to prepare. Attending lectures is crucial to doing well in this course.
she loves to talk during lectures all about herself and wastes time then expected us to teach ourselves certain lessons because she didn't have enough time. MAYBE if you spent less then talking bout random stuff we'd have enough time lol.
She constantly gets sidetracked by her stories in class which puts us way behind in the material. Never felt prepared for the exams because of the lack of material actually taught. Questions on the exam were stuff that was never covered in class. Have to do a lot of outside reading to fully understand what is on, most of the material on your own.
Mary cares deeply of all her students, and the quality of her lectures. She gives many resources to help with BOTH lab and lecture. She also gives practice tests before each exam to help you get a feel of what type of questions will be on the exam. I would love to take her again! TAKE HER FOR LAB AND LECTURE!
One of the best that CSN A&P has to offer. Constantly funny and engaging stories to keep you interested and stopping the lecture from becoming a droning snoozefest that others can be guilty of. You can tell she genuinely cares about her students and she makes an effort to remember you and your name. If you take her you are in good hands!
STEER AWAY!! Don't fall the personality reviews, 90-100 question exams, picks out the tiniest details for her tests, sometimes you have to watch her online videos because she'll ask about something that was on there but not her slides, do not take if you have other high credit classes or work many hours. Half her class fails and the other scrape by
Took for 223 and 251. The material is not easy, so prepare to study hard and really understand concepts for her exams. 80-100 questions. Her personal stories become time consuming but overall she is a good teacher.
I do not know if she is a great lecture professor but what can say is she a terrible lab instructor, the worst I ever had. Please choose someone else if you can.
biology is hard, but shes great! She does go on personal tangents and analogies but it always relates to the topic at hand and therefore gives the student a better understanding of what is going on. Take her! She's funny, witty and I'm quite bummed that I won't be able to take her after my prereqs.
I read the reviews of her and thought she'd be great. WRONG she expects you to learn everything alone in lab her tests in lab are like the smallest detail ever. Lecture i wish i never took her , her tests are 90-100 questions and is very detail heavy. at the end of the day you will need to teach yourself the material.
Lectures are engaging and entertaining, and they helped me understand the material better. Do not expect to get an A without studying every day. Her exams are fair as long as you pay attention and do the study guides, practice exams, and watch/attend lectures. However, she WILL make you feel stupid if you ask any question, no matter how reasonable
Prof. Bennett is awesome! Took her for lab and would give you personal stories and analogies to help you remember anatomy. She would tell you what could be on the tests, her preferred models, and would do anything to help you pass. Regardless of all, the lab is self-taught! You have to study outside of class to pass, she only gives you a boost. GL!
Her class has a lot of information that she will not test you on, and will pick the tiniest things to quiz you on. There is no study guide for finals; she expects you to go through five units of information, more than 1200 slides, and countless mentions of how hard the final is. Also, her study guides for the unit exams are useless.
I enjoyed her lab class ! Very straight forward. Don't be late tho lol .
DONT BE LATE on 1st day (for lec or lab). WILL call you out but is a sweetheart after. Record lectures: lot of info that is easily missed & to fill out her study guides, answers are mostly from lecture not PPTs. Can be slightly detailed in exam questions, but info is always from *lecture* and PPTs. Very friendly and talkative, easy to connect with.
