she is really nice and she has a good personality. Take concepts of math with her it's the best class, no textbook either.
Great math teacher! Explains things clearly and is very helpful
The professor is Hot. She can explain anything and knows the subject.
very helpful, clear and all around great math instructor
Shes an awsome teacher
She's the best.
Great teacher,very helpful.
Extremely smart! Explains concepts so you understand and she is always willing to help. BEAUTIFUL WOMAN!!!
She is the best math teacher ever!
She is a really good teacher, but the class is fairly hard. She is their for 1 hour every morning to help you and she does a very good job at it, not to mention the fact that she is pretty hot.
Outstanding teacher. Very clear, down to earth, understanding, and entertaining. She rewards hard work. The class isn't an easy one, but its tolerable and you'll learn a lot. She's more than willing to go the extra mile for her students, and is very accessible and loves to help after hours.
Great teacher, very thorough. Great personality and willing to answer questions and give help when needed. I highly recommend her, made math after 7 years fun and easy. Not to mention she's beautiful!
Makes the class very fun and she is always in a good mood!
Mrs. Pattengale is very engaging, very thorough, very helpful, and is often mistaken for a student. LOL. However, what you'll learn will help you in future math classes. Thanks Ms. P!!
she is a really fun, great teacher i had at sierra college. for those taking math i really recommend her.

i loved her class and i learned alot in it
Awesome teacher, very helpful.
After having Rafael for Math A, Pattengale is confusing and a struggle. She is consistently behind in her lectures; we have to go home each night and teach ourselves from the book in order to do the homework. I recommend Jill Rafael.
she is a nice teacher with good teaching skills, but the work she gives out tends to pile up, and we still do homework checks, i thought we stopped doing that in highschool?
Pattengale is very nice and understanding...the class is pretty easy! Take it if you are unsure of math concepts, because she is very helpful and clear.
Great teacher, very easy going, beautiful smile.
Pattengale is a great math teacher. I tried taking Math 31 with another professor, and I had to withdrawl from the class because I was failing. I took math 31 a second time with Pattengale, and I got an A in the class. That should tell you something. However math 31 is not an easy class, I mean come on it's calc!
she's a very nice and caring professor.
very nice and helpful
She's a great teacher, her tests aren't that hard and she gives you a study guide. Take her if you want to pass. And she's smokin hot!
calculus is a hard class but taking it with pattengale made it easier because she's so nice and has such a gorgeous smile and not to mention everything else. her homework is way harder than her tests which isn't always a bad thing since the tests are worth more overall. she's awsome!
She is a great teacher and your lucky if you get her. I do wish she would give more examples of homework problems, but other than that she is the best.
Mrs. Pattengale is very knowledgable, and also very entertaining. Although she assigns a lot of homework, her teaching style works. She's a well above average instructor. Although she's not as good as Mr. Balaguy, she's much easier; altogether a great teacher, even for the hardest of the Calculus classes.
I am so glad that I took this class online. Prof. Pattengale helped when I needed it and gave me a VERY detailed explaination when the computer wasn't. Great communication through e-mail, she answers fast! First time I got something higher than a C in a math class. ALEKS is a great program, but I would have been so stuck if not for her help.

I heart Mary Beth
Wow - MaryBeth is the best math instructor out there. She is flexible and really cares about her students. The class was really fun and she taught in such a way that you didn't even realize you were learning, no joke. If you get the chance take her she will inspire even the biggest math-hatter.
Mary beth makes this her classes fun. Not a difficult class if you show up and do the homework.
She came highly recommended and now I know why. She's a great teacher. She explained the material so even I can understand it. I never had algebra in high school, so after dropping the class last year, I was determined to stick it out. If you ever get a chance to get her as a teacher, do it fast, classes fill up quickly.
Mary Beth helped to make my back to school experience taking an online class a good one. Take her class!
Best professor I have had in 2 years. Very helpful, she taught like a human being, not like some math robot. She made Math D easy. She was even patient with the dumb students that asked the same questions over and over and never understood ANYTHING! I don't know how she put up with it. Her classes fill up fast, you better hurry!
Mary Beth is a wonderful woman.I didn't have to take this class, but I did for fun. If there was a way to have her as a teacher thoughout the Math career, I would in a heartbeat. Take advantage of the extra credit, it could save your life. Merry Christmas!
WOOO HOOOO another A! Best math teacher I have EVER had. She does not mind staying after class to explain the same thing over and over until you get it. She is very funny AND she is cute...take her classes as long as you can.
If professors were paid according to how well they taught she would be a rich women. Best of the best, I wish she taught every math class. Get her if you can.
Being a non-math oriented student returning after many years, I was terrified of math. Mary Beth made the experience painless. It was even FUN. She is GREAT! If you can get her, do it. She's one of the best math teachers on campus! :-)
only the best!
she great! she great at explaining. i HIGHLY recomend her
The best math teacher I have had. Makes the class fun. Makes up her own example problems and gives examples until everyone in the class understands. There are no dumb questions. Teaches short cuts if any, and gives examples of test questions. There are no suprises. More than fair on grading, looks for ways to give you credit TAKE HER CLASSES!
Mary Beth is amazing. She really loves her job and it shows in how she teaches. A+ professor. I would highly recommend her to anyone.
Great teacher!Take this class.Very helpful.I took online over summer, got an A.Haven't done math for 10yrs.I was worried taking condensed Algebra and getting an A.Doable!
She's incredibly wonderful; caring, concerned, helpful, will bend over backwards to help you succeed and really wants you to understand. It's an excruciating class, but she makes it bearable. I recommend the 3x a week 1.5hr class; much easier on the brain. Always do the HW, it makes a big diff. to your grade & necessary for comprehension. Take her!
This teacher is so helpful. She was a valuable resource to have when studying the worst subject ever -- STATISTICS! However, she got me through it. I don't think any other teacher could have. If you have the option, take her over any other math professor!
Mary Beth was one of two of my best math prof. You can expect this class to be difficult and time comsuming because it is calc but Mary Beth is willing to spend hours w/o end helping her students. She is very good about replying to emails and communicating. She held numerous study sessions the day before exams. The best way to go is with a MWF class.
Mary Beth was probably the best math teacher I have ever had. Take her ILP class, attend lecture every time, go to the lab and do your homework everyday and you will get an A. Go over the reviews a few times before each test and it will make it much easier. The ILP tutors really do help. Her lectures were very clear and helpful. Thanks.
this was a difficult class, and i missed many of the deadlines due to situations beyond my control, very understanding prof..gave me time over 72 hrs to catch up, and i did, give extra credit that is super helpful, and finals arent tht hard, overall, u leave this class learning something.
Can't say anything that hasn't been said already. She can make any math class seem easy. Get her if you can, she's the best there is.
Mary Beth is awesome! she has an open mind when it comes to student questions. she always makes time for her students and I would reccomend taking her for calc!
The best. Very helpful and kind.
Fantastic teacher, very passionate about the subject. Very understanding, is happy to help if you are struggling. Made a potentially scary subject very accessible.
Math a physics deparment need communicate more. I wouldnt take math from this college (upper division) unless u are willing to put more work than other students form different colleges.
Mary Beth is a great person and a great teacher. Compared to the other Calculus teachers, shes is very easy. This can be a good thing and a bad thing. She really cares for her students and does a great job helping them.
Myself, and so many others will state that Mary Beth is one of the best math teachers at Sierra College! If you have a chance to take any of her classes I'd jump all over it! She is very personable and a great teacher! I enrolled in Math D and never used a book, just mymathlab... also I highly encourage the use of the resources given; math lab.
SHES AMAZING... EASY GRADER ON TESTS IF YOU GRASP CONCEPT BUT MADE SILLY ERROR YOU WILL GET MOST POINTS. AND SHE WILL EXPLAIN TWICE AND IF YOU STILL DON'T GET IT SHE WILL EXPLAIN AGAIN AFTER CLASS.
Ridiculously awesome teacher! I took Math 30 and 31 with her, and wish she was teaching 32!
Mary Beth's class was pretty easy but still interesting if you like math. I don't think I'm as prepared as I should be for Math 32, but that also would depend on the 32 teacher. If you are looking for an easy calc class and don't have to take 32, take Mary Beth's class
I came into this class dreading math not only am I in a higher math class now, because of the extensive preperation she gave me, but I also got my highest math grade ever in this class. Not because she was easy, but because she is very passionate & knowlegeable about her subject. Also she has a great teaching style, if a bit laid back.
Mary Beth is by far the best math teacher i've ever had. She's extremely leanient on test days and helps out a lot in class. All her tests are based of the review which are all really easy. I wouldn't recommend anyone else but Mary Beth. TAKE HER!
Mary Beth was awesome! I'm not good at math at all, but she made it really clear. If you put in the time to do the homework and study a little before tests, you'll get an A for sure.
Her class was really easy and she was very leanient on tests
She's incredibly sweet, pretty funny, VERY laid back and easy going. She's very passionate about her job and takes it seriously, so you already know she's a great professor. She makes math really easy to learn. i think i actually like math because of her teaching. TAKE HER!
Mary Beth was awesome! I havent done any algreba in 6+ years so going into this i was scared. I just did my homework everynight and came to class to learn and I got an A in the class. She is the best math teacher, you will love her!
Mary Beth is an awesome teacher who made math approachable. All of her lectures were clear, and she was willing to go great lengths to help her students understand the topics. Absolutely no need for a text... only a software/online program. All hw is online, attendents isn't required... can make miss days up in math lab for full credit.
MaryBeth is the best professor I have ever had. I quit school in high school because of algebra. That was over 25 years ago. I never thought I would make it through 'D'. She was helpful, caring, and very effective. She is a wonderful Algebra teacher. Definatly take her class if you can.
Best math teacher ever! She is such a sweetheart. Very approachable and wants you to succeed in math. She goes at a slow pace so students can understand. Keep up with the math homework online, but besides that the tests aren't very hard. Understanding the homework helps. I wish she taught more math classes!
Take this instructor if you can. She is by far, one of the best math teachers EVER! You can't go wrong with this instructor.
Hands down the best Math teacher at sierra. I highly recommend taking her no matter how terrible at math you are, she will help you get through it.
SHE IS VERY HOT AND SMART MAKES LEARNING EASY
Best teacher for Math. nuff said
I took her for math D ILP, BEST INSTRUCTOR, HELPFUL, CARING, I WOULD TAKE HER AGAIN!! SHE SETS A SIDE TIME TO HELP!=DTAKE HER FOR ILP MATH D.
Taking math D as ILP is the best choice ever. You can change your test dates, and always take more time if needed. Mary-Beth is the sweetest, and kindest math teacher you will ever meet. Take her for any math class and you will succeed.
Probably the best math teacher I've ever had.
She is good looking, smiling all the time, very open and nice. She attacts people like magnet and I got A in this class having D with another professor.ILP is 50% of success too.
I took this class online it was great! She was quick to respond to emails and really cared about all of her students. Make sure you do the homework! Allows re-tests and re-trys on homework.
Ahmazing teacher. I took the ILP program and loved it. She was clear on everyhthing, we stayed on task, was extremely helpful, the quizzes were easy, the test were simple especially if you studied using the study guide. Though the final was hard, though I admit I didn't study like I should of. All-in-All I highly recommend her class.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. She makes things easy to understand, even for Calculus. Extremely approachable & enthusiastic. HW is done through MyMathLab(your only study tool besides study groups). Very flexible, adjusts teaching style to students. ALWAYS take her class if you have a chance.
Super nice, great teacher, easily accessible
This is the best professor I have ever had she is the sweetest person, and knows her stuff. For taking calculus, you can't do any better. I will only take her math classes she is that good. She is a very clear teacher and takes time during class to go over what anyone doesn't understand. TAKE HER
WOW. Intelligent, charming, always smiling, charismatic, funny, and a math genious. She is truly worthy of a 5.0 overall rating. Best math teacher I have ever had, if all teachers were like her then America would definitely score the highest in math by no competition. Take her ILP Class, TRUST ME it will be the best math class of your life.
I had her for Math 8 (trig) and intend to take as many of her math classes as possible. She is an excellent teacher and generally moves at an easy to understand pace. Her class has a lot of quizzes and a decent amount of tests, and she drops your lowest quiz score (or 2). Very good math teacher for math majors as well as those who need a math class
Extremely nice and makes sure that she is moving at a pace that everyone can understand. Tests somewhat easy for the most part, but is really fair when it comes to grading. Honestly, cares about her students and the fact that they adequately learn the material to be able to progress in their math careers.
Super easy class with her teaching. The tests are exactly like homework, quiz, and chapter review problems simply with the numbers changed.
She is an Angel sent to our rescue. Fight for a spot in her class.
"Her worksheets are so hard even tutors can't do them and she won't give the answers but then she puts all the hard ones on tests". Are you kidding me. This is Calc two not a general ed walk in the park class. We are all college students and we are all expected to face tough material. So you might want to rethink your priorities.
THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. She set me up for success in college. Bc of her im doing great in school. I used to hate math but she made me like math and actually be successful in it.Of course it is a hard class but she teaches so well that makes it easy. She is understanding and very openminded.we are all lucky!!
MB is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is so nice And understands that we all have lives outside of school so she is super flexible. Assignments are easy, but there's a lot of it. More time consuming than anything. Highly recommend her!!
Worksheets are hard and require a lot of time, but prepare you well for the quizzes and tests and aren't impossible. Tests aren't long, but challenge your calculus knowledge and not algebra knowledge. Always do the challenge problems that are posted online, even though they are optional. The course material is difficult, but is taught very well.
She is the best math Professor at Sierra, others may be good but no one can explain tricky math concepts as well as she does.
The topics are abstract and most of the time, she didn't understand it herself. For the final, she told the class to study old tests and promised the same material would be there. Didn't happen Only a few finished before the time was up, worth 25% of the grade.
She is an awesome teacher and a beautiful lady. I would take her class, because she can explain and can help you understand the material. Kinda a lot of homework, but its ok. She is wayyyyyyy better in teaching than Chuck Buckwald! Val VP
MARY BETH IS DEFINATELY A PROFESSOR WHO CARES ABOUT YOUR SUCCESS. I FOUND SHE IS WILLING TO HELP YOU WITH STRUGGLES. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND HER FOR ILP MATH D. ALWAYS HAPPY! FOCUSES ON LECTURE AND TEACHING MATERIAL. IF YOUR SERIOUS AND WANT TO PASS MATH D TAKE HER CLASS! GIVES 100%!
Final exam much harder than quizzes. Notes are useless because you don't have a lot of time. Exam is multiple choice so if you do not get the right answer, forget about getting any credit. Final is 35% of your grade which is ridiculous. Also the exam was supposed to be cumulative but 30 out of the 50 questions were on plotting alone. NOT HAPPY.
I know everyone loves Mrs. Pattengale, and there is a distinct reason for that. She is one of the best teachers I have had hands down. She is clear and concise, not so easy that you don't learn, and incredibly inspirational. She makes me want to be a math major which is saying a lot. Don't expect it to be easy, but you will leave loving math.
She is the angel that came down and saved my sanity from the other impossible math teachers at this school. Not only is she a great teacher, extremely nice and caring, but she teaches a more realistic class in terms of not being insanely difficult.
I took math 31 and 32. Tests are not easy but worksheets and challenge questions prepares you for test. Her class is not easy A. if you want A, you have to work for it. She is one of the best math instructor.
Mary Beth is literally everything. She makes the material make so much sense. Tests are fair, she's hilarious, she's kind, really easy to talk to. She made calculus fun. I don't have a single complaint honestly. I even had to drive 50 minutes each day to get to her class, but it was well worth it. Best decision of my academic career by choosing her
Mary Beth is a wonderful person and a fantastic teacher!! She makes math not terrible. I hated math before I took her class. Now I have confidence in myself. There's a lot of homework but it's pretty easy!
She is the best teacher I've ever had. Before attending her class I hated math, but now I'm loving it. She makes the hardest concepts of math so easy to understand. She makes sure all the students get what she teaches. She answers all the questions by every single, and even basic details till they's fully understood. Perfect time management
Mary Beth is awesome, she is a fair teacher and is extremely clear about what you need to know before the test. Her tests are very fair and usually contains 10-15 problems and there are a lot of quizzes. She is also a very nice teacher as well however sometimes hard to get a hold of due to so many students wanting to talk to her. Textbooknotneeded
Professor Pattengale is an awesome professor. I really enjoyed going to class every day. A lot of people struggle with calculus, but she does her very best to simplify things as much as possible. She's a very nice lady and will do anything she can to help you out. Would definitely recommend to others.
I LOVE HER! She is awesome. Email her and she will respond ASAP. She is considerate, willing to talk about ur grades and willing to work with u on them, understands when u get the answer right but type it in wrong. Will let you work ahead!!!!! I had to do a surgery and she let me finish the class 1 1/2 months ahead of time! Take her shes awesome!!!
Not easy class. if you work hard you can get A.
Love love LOVE Pattengale! She will make sure you understand the material, and even if one student does not understand, she will not move on unless they comprehend. Best teacher, hands down!
You have to work for cal 3.
Do not take this lady unless you want to fail. The hw is overload with 200+ problems/week. Does not give lecture videos, expect to learn by yourself. When you take her tests, she will NOT give partial credit. No multiple choices. If you do something wrong the whole problem is wrong! First two test is 20%, final 30%.
If you are prone to Math anxiety professor Pattengale is great. She does not try to surprise, trick, or intimidate you. She is extremely approachable. She also uses My Math Lab so you can get lots of new practice problems. I rated her class as show up and pass, but it's curved for calculus. Obviously Calculus is a lot of work.
I had to split my attention between a huge workload and her class last semester, and by mid semester I abandoned Math31 to raise my other grades. I took Math31 with Chuck this semester and let me tell you... what an absolute nightmare. Chuck absolutely loves math, but Mary Beth is a much better professor. Definitely take her class.
She is aweful for math 32. She doesn't know about the subject. She tries to explain something that she doesn't understand. If you want to learn and succeed I wouldn't recommend her. I honestly didn't learn anything her class but I passed. She gaves you a lot of homework, quiz, and unfair exam.
Don't listen to the bad reviews because those people probably didn't try hard enough to earn a good grade. Great professor for math. very knowledgeable about the subject. Ask questions, visit her office hours, go to the math center for more help. Challenging exams but they were fair (not balaguy hard). Highly recommend.
Mary Beth is a good teacher, and definitely offers a lot of second chances. However, I felt she relied too heavily on the internet program for the online class, and that she didnt really provide any of her own original lecture material. Also, If you take her Summer classes, she tends to go on vacation, thus making it difficult to contact her
Mary Beth is one of the best and easiest calculus teachers offered here. Plenty of extra credit. Her final was almost entirely made from questions given in the exams and quizzes. Quiz questions are pulled directly from her examples, textbook examples, and her homework. Homework is not done for credit. You barely need to study to pass the class.
Judging by reviews you would think she's heaven sent. She's nice and polite, but her lectures were really confusing, learned more from youtube. First 2 quiz class averages were 50%, had to drop because I didn't have time for such a hard class in an already loaded semester. She's not bad, but I don't think she's as great as reviews make it seem
I joined class just so I could take 1 of her classes again I love her sooo much!!! She is an Awesome professor who knows what she is doing and will help you out in every possible way! Now i know i needed the class and so happy that i took it but i cannot say enough about Mrs. Pattengale, what an amazing teacher! Extra credit, understanding, and fun!
Homework, about two sections between every class meeting. Quizzes every Wednesday. Lots of homework, BUT, she's easily one of the most engaging math teachers I've EVER come across. Loves what she does. Big smile on her face. Sociable and talkative. Optimistic person that wants you to pass. Stay on top of the work and you'll be dandy.
She is absolute amazing. Her lectures are so Krystal clear and she always breaks down information like equations so we under why the equation work of instead us assuming that it does.
Love mary beth so much :-) take her!!
Super nice! Always willing to help and very understanding. Never makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Come to class and do the homework! Calculus is tough and just because she is a nice professor does not mean this is an easy A!
I reviewed for MaryBeth the last semester that I took with her and I will for this one too. I took her for math A and math D. This woman is absolutely amazing at her job and will do whatever she can to help you pass. I wish she taught every subject so I could take it with her. Highly recommend her.
Most EASIEST and SIMPLE math professor to understand. You will not regret taking her. I GUARANTEE IT. If you fail, it's simply because you don't do the homework, or you aren't paying close attention in class. Has a lot of extra credit, and quizzes are easy. You review your quiz before you take it. And tests are exactly what you review for.
VERY GOOD TEACHER! CLEAR DIRECTION, WILLING TO HELP ALL THE WAY AS LONG AS YOU'RE WILLING TO WORK! MADE CALCULUS AS ENJOYABLE AS POSSIBLE!
Super intense class. Its a mathlab dependant class. Nothing is done through canvas. Tons of hw every week, an intense quiz on each section and a midterm and final. Some extra credit given, but not a lot.
I have this professor, second time, and really recommended.
pattengale is very understanding and caring. she emails you back fairly quickly and sends out emails of encouragement throughout the semester. Since the class I took was online, I taught myself all of the material, but I would not hesitate to take Pattengale again!
MB is so sweet, she is always willing to help you and she is fairly quick with responding to emails (helpful since it's online). She has an on campus mid term and final that is worth about 50% final grade, but she allows open notes and makes sure you have whatever software you need installed on the computers. 10/10 will take her again.
I am currently taking this class. She's great! Checks in with you to let you know how you're doing. The class itself takes a lot of time for homework and since it's online you will have to teach yourself. All homework can be redone and she will unlock the quizzes so you can retake them. Midterm and Final are on campus. Definitely recommend.
Love Prof. Pattengale It had been 20 years since my last math class and it was online, over the summer! Keep up with all homework and get good quiz scores. I completely bombed the final exam, not because I didn't know the material but my mind took a lot longer to process the problems. 20 HW quest. 4 hours The exam had 40 and only 2 hours given
Hands down the best professor ever! She knows that people hate math, but she also knows that everyone wants to pass so she is ready to explain it in the best way possible. She really cares for students and wants to see them succeed. You won't regret taking her, she's the best!
The class is well structured with a schedule of quizzes, tests, and worksheets are assigned almost every class. You need to show that you're ready to take Calculus II if you want to pass this class. Mary Beth is caring and a fair grader, she gives extra credit opportunities and uploads all the solutions. I would definitely take her again!
The best math teacher I've ever had. Challenging course, but if you have to take it, Mary Beth is the way to go. Calculus is hard no matter what professor you have, and it takes a lot of self-initiative and discipline. Many opportunities to succeed. Quiz and test-heavy, with occasional worksheets. Do the HW, study, ask questions. Extra credit!
Overall, a very good Professor. Mary Beth is incredibly caring and will work with you if you give her the chance. Grading is very fair, and partial credit is awarded for showing conceptual understanding. If you complete and understand all of the homework (which is both incredibly time consuming, and optional) you will succeed. Use office hours.
Was nice, seemed to care. She is very busy, could not make it to office hours so never got a chance to speak with her as she did not have time other than office hours. Watch out if you have a full schedule. Did not give feed back on mistakes, does post solutions. Fair grader, tough tests. Make sure you have a strong foundation in Math 30.
I took the class as a hybrid which worked for me though this did make the lectures very compact. Attendance isnt required shell randomly give extra credit for students in class. Shes easy to talk to are really want you to succeed. The final is cumulativeand worth 40% of your grade so watch out. My math lab is helpful and lets your redo problems
I took the online stats class and it was more work than expected (mostly because you have to teach yourself) but I love that we use mymathlab its very helpful. The midterm/final are easy because youre allowed open notes and you can bring your laptop (other profs didnt allow that). She was very helpful if you needed to contact outside of class
I took online stats. Despite reservations about not being in a classroom, it went exceedingly well. Open notes + lap top for midterm and final, both tests are on campus. No text, but MyStatLab. Mary Beth 100% wants to see you succeed and does everything she can to make it possible. Homework, 2 tests, and extra credit for grades.
Mary Beth is the most understanding and nicest teacher. I wasn't ready for my final which was on a Friday and she extended it and allowed me to take it on Monday. Her midterm and final are completely based of her reviews she gives for extra credit, but just different numbers. So if you do those you will pass the midterm and final.
Very willing to cooperate with students; very open-minded; willing to help in any way possible to ensure her student's success. One of the few awesome math professors, would definitely take her again!
She's really easy going and is understanding. Is fun and is really caring towards her students.
Mary Beth is an alright teacher, but be aware of her grading and pop quiz's.
I cant say enough good things about Mary Pattengale. She is super sweet and caring, and also an amazing teacher. I am the WORST at math, but somehow she makes it all click. Her teaching style is very laid back but effective. I've never had a better math teacher. Ever.
Took MathA online she's an amazing teacher. She gives you every opportunity to pass. She let's you work at your own pace and wants you to pass her class. She gives everyone extra credit. She is also letting us retake midterms for a better grade. She is the best teacher and I would take her class again. Minor work to pass, just pass your mid/finals
Marybeth is a great teacher, she really cares about her students
Not a very good professor. One of the worst I have ever had. Doesnt care if you pass or fail. Your hard work does not seem to pay off in her classes. I wouldnt recommend.
Awesome teacher that responds quickly and offers extra credit at the end.
Extra credit assignments at beginning and at end of course. Math is a difficult subject for me but she made it fun and in a context I could understand. Available all the time, tries to inspire you. 5 late passes for HW. Can use a 11 x 8 size paper for final notes (front and back). Got a C without doing extra credit and only getting 60% on final.
This professor was such a kind soul. She made it her mission to make sure her students understood the material and passed her class. She offered extra credit, gave extra help, and her joy for math made it a pleasure to take her class
Love love LOVED being in Mary Beths class. Shes super sweet and is open to communicating about grades and class struggles. I hate math and still do, this class was hard for me, but if I had to do this class all over again I would take it with her. If you have to take college algebra take it with Pattengale !! 10/10 teacher !!
Professor Mary Beth Pattengale is amazing. She cares about her students. She answers your emails quickly. If you can take her for any Math class it is highly recommended.
She is amazing. She assist and encourages you to do your best. Professor Mary Beth Pattengale is one of the better math teachers at Sierra!
I loved Mary Beth, shes an amazing math teacher. Shes helpful, caring, and patient. Her grading is fair. She knows math well and will be excited to help you learn. Shes respectful to students. I want to take another class with her.
Best math teacher I have ever had, so encouraging. Math10/Problem solving is a great class to take, the strategies are either difficult or easy to wrap your head around, but they help SO much. It is intensive work, and you do have to work for your grade. The skills you gain from it is well worth the frustration.
In her class, you have to do a discussion, homework, and spreadsheet every week that is worth 10 points each. The spreadsheets are supposed to help you with the homework. The only thing is that her videos show you how to solve it manually, not taking advantage of the spreadsheets. You can get in contact with her easily and she is good at helping.
The most amazing and caring professor ! Definitely helps out in any way that she can and very accessible to talk to if you are falling behind ! Would totally take her again for another class !
Best math professor I have ever had and I've taken her twice. I have ADD and she manages to keep me focused with her lectures. She makes even the hard stuff seem easy and is great at explaining things. She gives amazing feedback and extra credit. On top of that, she is insanely caring and understanding. Being in her class is always a pleasure.
This professor encourages you every step of the way! She is accessible outside of class if you need help and is so caring. I was a nervous reck and almost dropped this class from my own math anxiety but decided to stick with it. Probably one of the hardest classes I have ever taken but if you put in the work you will succeed in her class. Good luck
She's an excellent teacher! Super patient and responds to emails fairly quick. She's very clear on what is needed. She gives out a few late passes on hw for the whole semester and you have time to submit hw two days after the due date.
Stats is not an easy A, but professor pattengale sets the class up so you succeed!!! She is super accessible and responds to emails quick and gives you all the material to pass her class! I would highly recommend taking her!
Very understanding and well capable teacher. Well prepared for online teaching, descriptive lessons with examples and always responds to emails quickly.
I had to state statistics 3 times and professor Pattengale was the best out of the 3. Really cares about you passing.
Prof. Pattengale was an amazing teacher. She left comments on every assignment letting you know how you did and if something is wrong she always gives you a chance to fix it before it hurts your grade. She is amazing at responding to emails and gives great feedback. For an online class, it was easy and very organized. I highly recommend taking it.
Awesome professor who really cares for/understands her students and helps them to succeed. I never felt pressured by any of her deadlines, and she was lenient in instances where I felt I needed more time. Her tests are based on homework, making them straightforward to study for. Also, she offers extra credit and rounds up 89.5s and 79.5s. Perfect!
It took me a while to build courage to take Stat, but having Professor Pattengale made it so easy. She is extremely flexible and its almost impossible to fail her class. Shes an amazing teacher and wants you to pass. Her lecture video are great for homework and shes helpful. By far she is the best math teacher at Sierra.
MBP leaves you to your own devices, quite literally for an online class. She has all the lectures prerecorded and expects you to invest about 10 hours a week studying and doing the suggested homework problems. Fair warning, she grades very hard and is not lenient whatsoever, I'd suggest that if you don't need the class now, then don't take it.
Great Professor for online Math! Class consisted of a note based Quiz every week, pre-recorded lectures, bi-weekly online presentations, and proctorio exams. Exams are pretty easy as it's open note/book but she can be a tough grader. Homework and zoom meetings are optional. Has EC assignments, a sac state student tutor, and responds to emails fast.
DE/LA is a 6 unit class so expect to spend 18+ hrs/wk on it. MBP is by far the most organized & accessible of my covid-era professors & Im really glad I took this course from her. Go to the office hours (or watch the recordings) & really understand her lectures. The book is somewhat hit or miss but helpful if youre stuck. Someone will have a PDF.
The most competent math professor I have taken. She understands the nature of your mistakes, and adjusts her grading accordingly in a way that is helpful and enriching. I was very much encouraged by her grading attitude. Extremely organized and smart, being able to answer questions constructively the moment you posit them.
DE/LA is an intense class and I'm very happy that I had the opportunity to take it with professor MBP. She grades leniently and wants you to learn and pass the class, her offices hours are always helpful and she has great organization for her course, her exams are pretty rough though, definitely got to bring your A game and study to pass.
I was nervous to take DE/LA, but MBP was welcoming! DE/LA is definitely not an easy class. You're expected to spend 3 hours/day on it. The tests are also difficult, but they were open note online - take clear notes! MBP was super helpful during office hours and review sessions, and we had weekly quizzes and presentations. EC available too!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS TEACHER FOR ONLINE, she gives four hour notes with four tests and four pages of homework. Unrealistic expectations and overloaded with work. So stressful, save yourself. I have A's in every other class, just not this one. She does not help aid you and teach you in what is wrong; but expects you to do test correction
Avoid if you can. Tremendous amount of work behind a smiling face. Not many chances to improve your grade if you dont do good on one.
This is one where the ratings missed. Your grades are based on few assignments. Lacking in flexibility and individual circumstances.
Prerecorded lectures and weekly quizzes. Youll only do well if you like to study by yourself and teach the material well to yourself.
Took hybrid, lectures were okay, and she was incredibly accessible outside of class. She was a really great professor and if you're determined to pass she'll do her best to help make that happen. Your grade is almost all tests and quizzes though which can be stressful. 33 is a hard class though so be prepared to study quite a bit either way.
She is very understanding. She tries to look for points to help boost your grade. Even if you dont get the right answer completely, she will give partial credit for the process.
This was the best math class I have taken. Super awesome professor. She was very good about giving feedback and always graded assignments within a reasonable time. This class was hard due to being a 6 unit algebra class but she made it as easy as it could have been with really detailed lectures that covered and explained all necessary information.
I took her when she was teaching with Professor Ken Johnson in spring 2020. I was failing before we went online, they met with me on zoom privately to encourage me to stay in the class. They helped/supported me so much. The class is incredibly hard, but you have to lean on the professor and peers for help.
Would definitely take this course again the professor is very caring and helpful! Enjoyed this course
One of my favorite math teachers! She is super lenient with grading on exams, and offers lots of extra credit. She is also super kind and wants the best for her students, she helped me a ton with figuring out which calculus class to take next semester. She does assign a lot of homework, but if you're on top of your work, it isn't too bad.
Mary Beth was wonderful. Ive never been great at math but her lectures were easy to understand, plus we got credit for taking notes and she MAKES you do test corrections. Shes very accessible through email too
took hybrid online slash in person. wonderful lecturer, very passionate about the subject. provided frequent review sessions outside of lecture hours which helped greatly on tests. if you do the homework - which is not assigned for a grade - you will do fine. grades rely on quizzes and tests solely, and occasional extra credit on quizzes is offered
love this prof!!! you're allowed to use your notes & homework on exams so put some effort into those! she also gives a generous amount of partial credit on exams! she's extremely kind & receptive when it comes to questions; don't be afraid to attend her office hours!! wish i could take her for MATH30 but it doesn't fit into my schedule :(
I would not recommend mary for calc 1 at all. Like trust me her reviews gave me hope but man she is one tough grader. She just tell us to do 80 questions for homework and prep that way for test. She might be nice but do not let that fool you. I took the W to save my GPA and I would NOT RECOMMEND HER. save yourself the W or F on your transcript.
She was so nice and funny and willing to help, I would recommend to anyone who is worried about taking math in college
Calculus is obviously a very tough class, but Professor Pattengale was great. She is very nice and caring. It was apparent from the very beginning that she wanted all of her students to succeed. She made it very clear exactly what to study and often hinted at certain things being on tests/quizzes. Do the homework and show up to class.
Amazing teacher. I was always not great at math but in Mary Beth's Statistics class, she helped me tremendously to get an A. She does a great job teaching and helping her students understand a hard subject. She would even bring us packs of candy that we would use for a lecture, that we'd get to eat afterwards. Best professor I've had. 1000/10!!!!!!
This was my third time taking her and I don't have enough good things to say. She is kind, patient, and really takes the time to explain and help. Her demeanor is warm and welcoming. You can tell she really cares and wants you to succeed. Workload is still heavy but that's expected for this class. I'm just upset she isn't teaching 31 next semester
Professor wants her students to succeed. Always available.
THE SWEETEST MATH TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD!! Mrs Pattengale is an exceptional teacher, she is always smiling and trying to give you credits where you deserve them. I was scared at the beginning of the course because I am not good at Math but her lectures are so easy that I got a A!!! :) Highly recommend this teacher
Pattengale's lectures are helpful and she offers Zoom sessions if you need extra help. The homework is easy, and the quizzes actually prepare you for the exams. Light workload. She teaches you how to use Google Sheets to make calculations easier. You can tell she loves her job and cares for her students. Would definitely recommend.
By far the best professor I've had on campus. Lectures that are easy to follow and fun to listen to while providing strategies that anyone can follow with enough practice, fair testing and grading that is accurate to what we learned, and a bright personality that shows she actually cares about her students and their futures. Also, she's hilarious.
If you want to take Calculus to truly learn and understand Calculus, TAKE MARY BETH. She is literally THE BEST Professor I have ever had. So what if she assigns lots of homework, it's Calculus, if you don't put in the work to practice then you won't understand and won't pass. Mary Beth is super kind and will help you get through this class!
Dropped. I asked questions and was told to try again. I have accommodations and once the test times were adjusted (which took until the day the test was due) it worked out to 2 minutes a question. Not caring or understanding when I was trying my best to reach out and get info and accommodations that are filed with disability services.
So thankful Mary Beth taught DE + Linear Algebra. Her lectures are at a slow pace, but that's because she really wants students to understand tough material. She is hilarious and made the class enjoyable. HW is not graded, but it is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to be prepared for exams. Literally just study the HW and her in-class examples. TAKE HER CLASS!
Professor Pattengale is challenging but fair. The workload is demanding, but she genuinely wants students to succeed. Attending class, doing the homework, and using resources like unstuck study can really help. It's a tough course, but Pattengale makes it manageable with her caring approach.
Honestly very overrated compared to some of the other professors. Everything is done on the whiteboard, so no take home notes if you miss class. She's caring and funny but a mediocore teacher at best
Lectures are very organized. On many occasions she stayed after class to work through harder problems. I recommend taking her support class as it provides plenty of opportunities to get help. She is a funny and entertaining lecturer that makes calculus easier to engage with. She provides many opportunities for extra credit and is a fair grader.
Really enjoyed her teaching but you absolutely need to do the homework (even if not required) to do well. You absolutely will not be prepared for tests if you do not. Though, she made it clear what type of questions would be on the tests which made studying a bit less stressful. Enjoyed the class.
AMAZING TEACHER. She starts the class by saying she expects you to know nothing. I took the online 8 week course and I never felt behind or lost. Her study guides are perfect and make it nearly impossible to fail the test if you use it to prepare. She is so kind and truly wants you to succeed. I looked forward to her lectures and that says a lot.
Mary was hands down the nicest professor I have ever had. She was very lenient and understanding about assignments and re-grading. All she wanted was for you to succeed. She makes sure the topics are understandable and not complicating. Literally one of the easiest online classes I have ever taken. She is amazing!!!
Loved taking her class! She was very nice and helpful when I didn't understand certain concepts. If you can't get Waterson for math, I would definitely take her!
Mrs Pattengale is great. Clearly explains the topics and gives you multiple tries on quizzes and exams. She responded quickly and helpfully every time I asked. She also gives extra credit for watching her announcements. Only issue is the first two weeks, her lectures were not very helpful. I needed to read the textbook to get by, but all good after
This professor is one of the most considerate and kind professors I have had at Sierra College. Not only are the resources she uses very accessible, she is always quick to respond if you need help, and the tests are just like the homework (the homework prepares you well). Loved this stats class, would easily take Professor Pattengale again.
Statistics isn't very easy tbh, but she gives decent lectures and wants you to succeed. EC in videos, so watch all announcements. Focus on spreadsheets, they help on exams.
Unprofessional, often late, no clear rubric, gossips about conversations with students, wastes lecture time with personal stories, glazes over concepts she doesn't actually understand. Often makes mistakes and asks the class for assurance, indecisive with test dates. A pathetic lack of confidence for someone who's supposed to be the expert.
Your grade is not a function of your time, effort and understanding which makes this an awful teacher.
Try and tune out as much as possible of her dribble. Go to another teacher for help. Ask about her grading policy and criteria at the beginning of the year.
Math 30 was frustrating. The professor constantly went off-topic, wasting time, and barely did examples—my notes were thin. Her poor planning meant cramming too many lessons into one day. One test was so long and hard many couldn't finish. She posted student test solutions instead of her own, which feels lazy and some were blurry. Don't take her!
This class was a mess. She wasted so much time talking about random stuff and barely did examples, so it always felt like we were rushing. One test was so long that a bunch of us didn't even finish. Before the final, she wasn't clear on what would be on it. And she posts student solutions instead of her own, which is honestly wild.
This was one of the best math professors I have ever had. The lectures were detailed and never felt like anything was missing. It was very clear what was expected of you, and there are lots of extra credit opportunities. She is kind and grades fairly. If you are taking calculus 1 then this is your professor.
I genuinely do not understand all the negative comments about Mary Beth. She was one of the most outgoing and fun professors I have every had. Every single time I had a question, I would ask my friend, but she would notice and reassure me to ask the question to her. An amazing professor and will 100% take her again in the future for the DE class!
I don't know what the other people are talking about. M.B. was honestly a fantastic professor. There were so many opportunities for throwaway quizzes and even a whole test. Her grading system made it really easy to pass. She would even tell us about upcoming "pop quizzes." Class was a breeze if you studied and did your homework. Thanks Mary!
MBP is the MVP! Makes this difficult subject easier to understand, made me feel like I can do it. Super clear about test material and what to study for the finals. Walks around and helps people in the Math Center. She wants you to do well, but you need to show up and put in a lot of effort, this class was not easy. Great prof. and person, take her!
Super easy online course where you don't have to pay for a textbook or homework program which is rare in STEM courses. She gives you late passes you can redeem on ANY homework, quiz, or exam which is super nice. She makes lecture videos and does a weekly spreadsheet assignment that helps with homework.
I thought she would be a great professor for calc 1 based on reviews but in the first two weeks of semester she spent most of the class talking about her kids and how to navigate canvas but we hardly went over problems that correlate with the hw. then we had our first exam on the third week of the semester, she did not teach us much at this point.
This class was very hard to do online. All of her exams are cumulative meaning you have to remember everything you learn throughout the semester. The cumulative final is worth 25% of your grade. She is a nice professor, but definitely a hard class to take online if you're not great at math.
I LOVE MARY BETH! SHE'S GOATED!!! SHE DESERVES TO BE PROMOTED. SHE IS VERY CARING AND WANTS YOU TO SUCCEED. SHE REPLIED TO MY EMAIL ON TIME. HOWEVER, THE TEST ARE SO HEAVY AND HOMEWORK! BUT SHE GIVES STUDY TEST BEFORE THE TEST! IN DB'S, DO NOT EVER USE CHATGPT SHE CAN DETECT IF YOU USE AI OR NOT. I WITNESSED SOME OF CLASSMATES DO THAT SO BE AWARE
This professor is definitely kind and caring but the homework's and tests she gave was absolutely terrible. I cannot. This is not my bias review but like be sure to be prepared for this if you're planning
I should have heeded what comments from last semester were saying before they were taken down for some reason. Very test heavy, like they don't match the homework she assigns. There isn't enough things to help balance out your score. Drones during lectures-- like tangents that don't relate to math.
She genuinely cares about you and wants you to succeed. Pretty lenient on late assignments and lots of chances for extra credit. I struggle with math but this professor made the experience incredibly smooth for me. Very easy grader. Only downside is midterm and final are cumulative.
MY GOAT I will defend her with my life. One of my favorite teachers ever. Makes 33 digestible and very doable. You can tell that she loves her job. As long as you do the homework and ask questions you are guaranteed success. So approachable I loved starting random conversation with her about anything, in or out of class she is so fun to talk to.
