SO BORING! Overhead notes everyday. not clear on exams. too monotonous
Nice person. Hard professor
Talk to her, but you won't get much, she isn't clear on what she wants herself.
Very nice person. Great stories that are relevent to the class from her work exp
seemed disorganized at times, tests are hard & dont reflect lecture, read book
has a clear understanding and enthusiasm for the material she teaches
Good Class, Lots of Notes, Overall Nice Prof.
Great prof! Has great understanding of the material. Very helpful!
nice person, easy class- makes lecture interesting- I didn't skip once!
Nice, easy take her!
her tests are easy, her lectures are interesting- she's one of best psych profs
She is so easy. I never studied and still got an A.
Best Prof @ GVSU, makes class interesting
great prof., makes material understandable, I recommend her highly
Makes class interesting, not the easiest class but worth taking for sure
Talks too fast and is difficult keeping up, lecture and exams are not correlated
Great person and teacher!!!
good teacher, puts concepts in terms you'll understand
Great techer and class, you just have to show up.

Great! Has a lot of field experience that helps her relate class to real life.

Extremely nice and organized to an extent that everyone could understand.
Very nice professor, has a lot of experience. Very interesting class, exams aren't too hard. Just go to class and you'll be fine.
Her test are way too difficult. She expects you to know over 25 questions on a study guide for possible essays. It is unreasonable and she is a hard grader. She talks too fast and you can't absorb what she is saying. She is a very nice person, but she cra
She preaches coming to class, yet nothing in lecture is relevant to exams, all book info, and even then her test are dumb..... Intesting topic, frustrating atmosphere, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
One of the best Psych profs, very helpful in and out of class, explains concepts well, relates past field experience to class
Class is not worth your time. Very dull. You can't sell back the book it is copies of articles that are hard to read. She is too picky and her tests and grading are hard. Do not take! You wont enjoy it.

One of the best professors I have had so far. Class is very interesting, go to class and you'll do fine. Exams are pretty easy, she gives you a study guide

Interesting material, she organized class well, but tests suck. Not too understanding.
favorite class i have taken in 2 yrs at GV.very clear lectures, organized, and always upbeat and cheerful.tests were not hard at all if you studied for an hour.

Good Prof. Nice. Interested in students, and helpful. Good lectures.
Good Prof. Clear teaching style, and grades fairly. Study the notes, and you should be fine. She does talk fast, but I haven't had a problem with it.
Nice prof, talks really fast, tests not too bad, just make sure you understand what she is talking about.
This was the best teacher i have had at GVSU. Her lectures are great and i really enjoyed goign to class. She was very clear about where she was going and let you know regularly what was coming next in lecture.
She is awesome, very clear, very structered and knows what she is talking about. Take her if you get the chance. Just study your notes and you should be fine
Loved this class. Very very nice lady, and very helpful. Class is easy and also fun. Only 2 tests that are easy and a really easy group final, and a couple of quick assignments. She is very organized and clear in lecture. Take her!!
Wonderful professor. Really knows what she's talking about, gives relevant examples, and very laid back and understanding. Always willing to offer help outside of class, even on things not relevant to the subject. Just go to class and listen, you'll do ok
Very intelligent professor, really knows her stuff. Always willing to help even on things not relevant to the class. Very easy to understand. If you go to class, you don't really need to read or buy the book. Great person, very understanding!
Awesome Prof!!! She is very intelligent.. If you have to take any Psy classes she teaches make sure you get her!! She is so clear in lecture that all you need is the notes, book is good for reference.
Nice prof, brings alot of interesting professional stories to class, grades were only based on 2 tests and a group case study that was graded way to harshly....overall, good class & good prof. No real text, only an expensive course pack that is necessary
She talked way too fast and her tests were difficult. She was a nice person.
I really enjoyed this class surprisingly. I learned a lot about psych. because it was not just disability centered. Her exams were pretty easy and the final was a simple group case study. Try to find a used course pack because they are expensive non returnable @ campus bookstores.
Great Prof!!!! She realy knows her stuff and tries to make the class fun and interesting.
Very interesting and really knows her stuff. Make sure you read though, if you don't it might hurt you on tests. She very nice. The test are ok just study the vocab and READ!!
Was not very clear on what information was needed for tests. She would lecture on things that you would think would be important, but then wouldn't be on the test and instead would have information that wasn' gone over on it. Didn't have a good teaching style.
great prof, knows her stuff really well. easy tests although only has 2. makes an interesting topic even better. expensive coursepack that you cant return sucks
Absolutely the best psychology professor. She is very knowledgable and very organized. I would strongly recommend her as your professor for any psych class that she teaches. She has a good teaching style and makes you understand the material.
Great professor, clear and organized. Topic is fun BUT the tests are very precise and hard, even if you know the topics well, sometimes she asks too indepth of questions. But she is soo nice!
Professor Bower-Russa knows what she's talking about (she has experience as a clinical psychologist). Her lectures are interesting, but her tests are kind of tough. Sometimes she asks questions about detailed stuff in the text, so use the study guide. Interesting stuff though.
Wonderful class - excellent topic - highly recommend - keep up on reading - does sometimes include test questions on material not yet covered - great to take as night class.
I loved this prof. I earned a B+ out of the class. All you have to do is basically go to lecture and take good notes to pass the class. Everything on the exams are from the lectures/note. Just show up to class and I guarentee you'll pass.
She is a very good teacher. Her overheads are annoying b/c they went out of focus so much & it was a large class - so if you sat in the back - you were screwed. She's very good at explaining things. Make sure you keep up on the text - a lot of test questions come from text -and be detailed in essays
helpful and understanding
AMAZING professor. I highly recommed her and the class in general. She makes the class very interesting. Very nice, reasonable, helpful and explanatory. Exams are not too hard. Make sure you read the text book before the exam.
Class material was interesting and she is very knowledeable but speaks too fast and seems to be unorganized a lot of the time. Class is only based on 3 exams so good luck if you're not a good test-taker!
AMAZING professor. One of the best by far. Uses real life experiences to help explain lectures-they are interesting too. GREAT class and very interesting topic, I highly recommended it. Exams are not too hard, just do the review.
She is Awesome. Spacificaly requested her for my 2nd psy class at GV. She tried to jam stuff in sometime cause she doesnt want to amend her Multiple Choice tests!! May have to read the book, but they are good books. Take her, you will learn alot.
For the short time I had her, she was great--very intelligent, energetic, great lectures. Get well soon, Professor!
Very hard!! Nice person, but not for a professor. There are only three tests, so if you fail one, you pretty much fail the class. I don't recommend taking her.
She explains things well and uses a lot of examples, but her tests are awful. She is a very nice lady, but I dont recommend her.
AWESOME PROF! Highly recommended! She is very interesting and engaging. Knows her stuff and gives great examples from real-lfe situations. Very applicable to anyone. Make sure to keep up on readings-there's a lot, but she uses them on the exams.
she is a sweetie and definitely willing to help. has great stories about when she worked at cleveland clinic. her tests are really hard though.
Really good prof. Uses interesting examples in class, very knowledgeable on her subject. Tests are hard.
HORRIBLE!! unless you are a PSY major do not take this class. These tests were pretty much impossible and class was extremely painful. She doesn't require a book, however she expects each student to print 100+ pages of reading material per test. She expects students to be as smart as she is. AVIOD AT ALL COSTS!
worst professor that i have ever had. I think she is a very unfair grader! She said that a lot of my stuff was good or that it was almost there except one thing was missing. Basically, if you have one thing missing (important or not) then she will fail you.
tough tests, interesting class. You need to study in order to do well. 1 paper, 2 exams and the final. Go to class. Her examples are good because of her working in a facility.
Tough professor. If you keep up with readings and lectures you'll do fine, but it's tough to do all that consistently. Exams are hard. Class was somewhat interesting, and the prof. was knowledgeable.
I thought this class was way more challenging than it appeared to be after listening to lectures, you are responsible for outside readings that you need to intepret and be ready to talk about on exams. Although she is very knowledgable, uses lots of real world examples, and has some extra credit offered.
She was by far my favorite professor at Grand Valley. She is very knowledgable and passionate about the subject. She gives AWESOME real world examples that make it easier to understand the topics. :)
I LOVED this class. She is probably my favorite professor at Grand Valley. She is extremely knowledgeable and loves psychology. Her tests are some of the easier ones that I have taken in the psychology classes. You do have to do the reading, but she chooses an interesting textbook that is easy to read. Take this class WITH this professor!!!!!
i liked the class and thought it was very interesting, and i didnt mind her as a person, but i feel like the grading on the project we did was harsh. i put a lot of effort into the individual portion and did not deserve the grade i got, and on the group portion we did ok, but i think we deserved better.
She was a super interesting prof! Her class was hardly ever boring and she had lots of fun related stories. You need to read the book, as she doesn't cover everything in class but it will be on the exams.
she's really a wonderful professor! extremely knowledgeable and very interesting. covers A LOT of material, so be sure you attend class and keep up on readings which there are a lot of. but it would definitely be worth your time and effort to take her if you need this class. tests are easy if you study well.
Amazing prof. She has interesting stories and always keeps you engaged. Tests are fairly easy, but you need to read the book. She also gives study guides which is really nice! TAKE HER if possible!
Very hard class. She covers a lot of material and talks extremely fast making it hard to keep up. Three hard exams that require you to really understand the info from both book and lectures. I studied for days for her exams and barely got a C. If you plan on going into clinical psychology I recommend this class, if not skip it if you can.
Best psych professor I've ever had! She makes her class engaging, interesting, has a lot of experience in her field and is very knowledgeable! I would take her again! There's a fun case study paper that isn't too difficult and her exams are manageable as long as you study notes from lecture and read the book. Highly recommend this class!!
Overall good professor. Explains well, even though she talks fast. Lots of experience in the field leads to interesting stories in class. Only negative is that she is EXTREMELY TOUGH when she grades writing. I would recommend her, but be warned: make sure your writing is perfect.
Very clear in lecture. Little textbook use. Exams can be nit-picky with disease stats and such, but overall are reasonable (multiple choice & a few 1 para free response). Not too hard, but class can get a bit dry.
Prof. Bower-Russa is one of the most intelligent professors I have ever had. She knows so much about the subject and is always willing to give advice, help, time, and opinion to her students. Her tests are pretty hard, but that's to be expected with a 300 level class. 3 exams and a case study makes for a busy semester.
Avoid Very full of herself, and rambles on completely skipping the psychological facts. Teaches her opinions as fact
This class is tough. You MUST read the textbook, and be in every class. Exams are mostly based on lecture and she doesn't post the power points so it's crucial to listen and actively take notes. I really disliked the group case study, and she isn't all too flexible with deadlines. Dr. Bower Russa is nice and very smart! You'll learn a lot.
I loved this class with Prof. Bower-Russa! I didn't have very much interest in the class but the things we were lectured on were quite interesting! There are a couple really good moviedocumentaries that you watch that really give you an idea on what the class is really about. Very willing to help. Lots of reading but tests are straight-forward.
Dr. Bower-Russa is an excellent professor! She has lots of interesting stories from her personal and professional life that relate to the material. She's very friendly, knowledgeable, and great to talk to. I've learned a lot in her class and would recommend her! :)
Was very interested in this class when I signed up but wasn't interested once class started. Tests are very difficult and she is a tough grader. I have never received less than a B besides for this class
Bower-Russa is a great prof for this class! She really knows what she's talking about and her lectures are very clear. The only catch is that you have to go to class if you want to do well. Highly recommend!!
Professor Bower-Russa is extremely knowledgable in her field and very likable. This course is challenging and requires you to study hard in order to get good grades on the exams (3 exams). There is also a group case study project that isn't bad. There aren't many points in the class so it is important to do well on the exams!
She is a really good professor that is extremely knowledgeable about her field. She is great at using examples and her notes are very organized. Her tests are slightly difficult, especially since the study guides are unhelpful but as long as you go to class you should be fine. I definitely recommend taking her
Very nice & very knowledgeable. Tests are difficult, study guides are not helpful or specific. Tons of information to know, she goes over A LOT between each test. Not many assignments, must do well on exams to receive a good grade.
Professor Russa is an amazing lecturer, she uses examples from her own background that really make the material stick, and make the class interesting. She's willing to work with you, to help you succeed. She also gives great advice on future plans and different career routes within the field of psychology. She's a great professor to have.
Great teacher because she has the experience to give examples for almost every mental illness. You'll definitely learn a lot from her. My only suggestion is to study up for the exams there are 3 noncumulative & they all have 2 free response questions. Also, there are two group papers. I would definitely take her again.
She is one of the only professors that can keep me awake during lectures. She's super nice and wants you to succeed, very willing to help if you need it. There aren't many assignments, so you need to work hard on them so you can get a good overall grade in the class. There is a group project/paper, but it isn't very difficult.
Shes super likable and keeps you interested. There is a fair amount of work but its not bad. Shes knows a lot about the subject so I like listening to her experiences
She is a great professor that knows a lot about the material, which makes class more interesting. However the class is strictly lectures. She doesnt take attendance, but going to class helps a lot on exams. Textbook reading material is heavily tested. Not too much homework and she doesnt grade assignments too tough. Extra credit is available.
Attendance isn't required, but if you don't go and you don't read the insanely long chapters in the textbook, you're cooked. Professor Bower Russa's smart, but an extremely tough grader regarding written responses, especiallly on exams. If you can find a different prof for psych 303, I'm begging you, for your sanity and mental heath... please do.
She talks the entire time and throws a huge amount of facts at you. Exams are impossibly hard and studying is virtually impossible to master because there's so much information and she chooses the most detail orientated things to put on the exams. All I can say if you have her, is good luck and I hope you do well!
My favorite professor! Class is just lectures and she has loads of stories with all the mental disorders! Reading isn't too bad if you're interested. Tests have 2 attempts with the same questions and only 2 written responses, which she gives a list of 20 questions so you know two are coming from those. Very approachable. One group paper-easy.
Her tests were difficult but overall, the class was pretty good.
The class consists of 3 exams, 1 project, packback and an optional essay. She is an incredibly tough grader, especially on the short answer questions on the exams & wants EVERY detail and does NOT prepare you well for the exams. Takes 4ever to answer emails - took her 10 days to get back to me abt the project, the day after turning it int!!
Bower-Russa knows what she is talking about. She is extremely educated in the psychology field. She's a great professor. The lectures were intriguing and she made the material fun to learn. My only problems were that she took very long to reply to emails and took a while for grades to come in and is a pretty tough grader when it comes to exams.
Had her for psychopathology and this was the worst class I've taken just from of the way she runs things. Lectures are very dry and full of too much info, tests cover too much info, she was rude, and the extra credit was pretty much useless. Super harsh grader, please take another prof until she learns to take student feedback into consideration
This professor was beyond frustrating. If you can find another one please do! Her lectures were long and all over the place. She never connected her thoughts and sounded like she was anxious the whole class period. As someone who needs a cohesive class this was anything but that! Exams were hard but extra credit opportunities were there.
