I'm actually excited about math again. she is very clear on her lectures and her tests are straight forward. She even let us have 2 take home exams. She's pretty funny too. Take her.
THE BEST! Take her. She's very clear and her lectures are fun to watch. She's funny and very willing to help you.
So true! Take her. I loved her class. she is so clear with her lectures and very willing to help. She's open to her office hours and she has a couple of take home exams which are a little hard, but not totally undoable. I love her personality and she's cute too.
She is enthusiastic and very helpful. She clearly wants her students to succeed and makes herself available for them. I definetly reccomend her.
She is a great teacher. i am horrible in math but she really helped me through it. i was lucky enough to have her for E3 and math 840.
Ms. Bravewoman is an inspirational woman whom I wish I could continue working with but she is an early bird and I am not! :P Anyway, she dealt with all of my personal health needs very nicely and I truly appreciate her open door policy and her willingness to help at any time possible. If you can take her class, grab it fast.
She is very straight forward and very helpful, I'm the kind of person who hates math, but one semester with her changed everything. you get to take all you're test's again and a practice test before every test help alot, she's great take her.
Take her! She's the bomb at teaching math. She's really funny and makes it interesting. She's very helpful and is one hell of a lecturer. She doesn't try to teach math like it's rocket science. She really cares about her students and looks like she loves to teach. Take her! You won't regret it.
The good thing about Ms. Bravewoman is that she has a real interest in her student's success. For the most part she is very clear in explaining the material. Though, I find that she sometimes oversimplifies operations to noumerous mechanical steps, to the point where you can't see the meaning behind the different operations. I think she's a good teacher, but it depends on what type of teaching style is good for you
Ms. Bravewoman is the coolest teacher ever! she is right.. she'll ask whos scared of math.. i really was!!! she is totally into seeing her students succeed! shes so funny! makes me want to go to class when class is like that... you should mos def take her classes...
Excellent instrcutor. Got me on the right track after a 15 year hiatus from Alg (hated it) and now feel compl. comfortable with it.
She's a nice teacher. Explains everything very well. I would love to have her as my math teacher again for the next math class.
I took math 840 with her. She makes herself available and willingness to help at any time possible for her students. I feel lucky to have a professor like her. She gave me countless help. It makes me feel want to tell everyone that how nice she is! Thank you, Mary!
Mary is a total sweetheart and was very helpfull as well as approachable. Homework was plentiful and the tests, especially the take home tests, were difficult. Tough but fair class. Definitely not an easy A.
very hard class...she give 30+ problems everyday for homework, her average test is 4-5 pages long, no calculators, no notes, nada ur on ur own..wouldnt take her again in a million years!!!
i took her for math 840 over the summer 08 and also again in the fall 08. she is the best math teachers ive ever had. i was very scared to take math after 10 yrs but she really teaches in a non threatening way and is always available. i recommend everybody to take her class. no slackers though. you got to work hard and be dedicated.
One of the best Math instructors that I have ever dealt with. Extremely helpful and compassionately answers ALL questions with GREAT explanations! Tests are a bit difficult though.
Fantastic and very helpful intructor. the best ever
Bravewoman's class was the hardest class i ever took. Yeah She explains it but uses stupid webassign for homework and assigns alot of homework at a time. she is a hard grader and the tests arent even close to what you are learning . if i were you just dont add it or you will drop.
Class everyday, 5 online HW assignments a week (40-70 problems each using a slow, horrible program webassign). Tests are really hard & problems are diff from HW and example notes (decimals, fractions, etc). also no calculators ever! favored her previous students too. tests come weeks after chapter has been done and moved on. likely to drop if taken
I finished her final for 860 yesterday and to be honest it was hard. But im not worried because i know shes fair as long as you do your hw
wow so much H.W to deal with. However in the end it was doing her Homework that passed me. Her test are not easy but there is tons of help from the mathlab and LAC only hardwork will get you through. Ended with an C
she is very hard her homework on web assign is a pain. She gives her tests back weeks after the fact which is not at all helpful and her tests have nothing to do with her lectures. I definitely would not recommend her
Returning exams promptly was a joke. Algebra builds on itself. Taking exam 4 without having 2 and 3 retuned is ridiculous. Web Assign was not her fault, she fought for course compass, however reporting the coding problems is not the responsibility of the student. We were already over burdened with homework. DO NOT TAKE HER, YOU WILL drop it!!!!!
Bravewoman, is clear but she is really hard. Well for me anyway, Math is not my thing but She does give lots of home work and she does give lots of test questions. But makes up for it with at least 100 points in extra credit.
it was not as hard as i thought it was going to be and i love the web thing its supper helpfull! she lets you know ahead of time whats going to be on the test
she knows what she is doing, but her test are completely different than what she is teaching. The take home test are so hard that you can either ask for outside help or just give up. I went for the latter.
Good to take her if you struggle in math. She assigns a whole bunch of homework but it is necessary in order to learn. She makes sure everyone understands the material and I love her colored markers. Her tests are hard and some of the material seems different from the homework. But she allows some group work and take home tests!
I love Miss B! She is a good teacher; however, her class is hard. My only complaint is that she did not teach us many of the things that were on the test. I only say this because those were things that i really wish i could say i learned in her class. I say take her, but count it as 2 classes, so you learn all she is teaching.
Over 10 hours of online homework a week. She breezes through the material so you don't have a chance to ask questions. She doesn't go over the test material and when she returns the test she doesn't go over the test? After I pass the class I'm going to address the problem to the school. If you can take a different teacher if you love math like I do
hard class... gives a lot of hw. hw does not help with the exams because it is hella different... you will drop if you are in the class
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! One week before finals and we have to take another exam. She still hasn't returned our test from Thanksgiving. This class is hard and she definitely makes it even harder by the way she teaches it. Take my advise, your better off trying someone else. Unless you're in Math E.
Mary is a great teacher, she is the best math teacher that I have ever had. She has allways helped me in her office hours and I think she genuinly wants me to suceed. Some people say it's hard, but it's a real class so I dont think hey have very good standards. Her lectures are clear and fun.
would not recommend too much hw isnt that clear enough then when you do ask for help shes has like a little attitude like in class she made of the students feel slow too much hw tests are hella hard dnt add your gonna wanna drop trust me punta nada mas that
The way she explains the problems are clear, yet she is a HARD GRADER!She is really rude, uses profanity. Also, while taking notes, she goes REALLY FAST! If you ask her to explain something she wont do it. she will erased what she just wrote so if you are a slow note taker consider that. Also a feminist so watch out men, good luck ladies! I'm Done!
Super hard class not helpful at all don't take this class seriously
Mary is an awesome prof. Her lectures are very clear and will explain further if needed. She does give a lot of homework but it's to help you understand the material. She gives a lot of take home tests and attendance is required.
Bravewoman is fair, explains things clearly but very briskly; does not handhold or repeat herself a lot. A great professor for those willing to work hard for their grade, or like math. This class is heavily reliant on lectures, so take good notes and attend regularly - textbook is NOT necessary. Homework is all done online, consider this as well.
late on returning exams, sarcastic, egotistic, favors woman and just not a happy person!
Extremely Hard Grader! Even with take home exams. Also, she gives a lot of examples which I think is great! Take notes because the examples she gives would most likely be on an exam. The class is hard at first but nearing the end of the semester, it gets easier.Try hard! she rewards people who stick it to the end
Absolutely the worst teacher I've encountered in the Math Department of CCSF. She will test on things she doesn't teach and mark things wrong on tests which are actually correct answers, you just "did them wrong." Seriously. So many better Math Teachers at CCSF.
Mary is the best teacher I have ever had. She encouraged me to work hard, and her dedication and love of math was inspirational. She held bi-weekly study groups, was more than generous with her office hours and answered countless emails of mine. She does not give away A's, but if you're willing to work for it, she will help you succeed.
she thinks this is our only class. lots of hw. exams are differents from the hw and lectures. look for someone else instead. does not like talking to students after class.
Mary is an awesome teacher. She gives many extra credit opportunities. During the lesson, it is important to take good notes as most likely, there will be a similar problem on the take home test. She makes sure to go over the problems enough so everyone understands and answers questions thoroughly. Most importantly, she wants her student to do well
i took her my second go around for math 840. i told her in the beinning i have test anxiety but she didnt seem to care. she never gave me a 2nd chance on anything and was a hard grader. because of my low test scores i got a high D i was 2 points from a C i asked what i could do she said repeat the class!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER CLASS!!!
she doesnt not like to help students towards the end the the semester. when you asked her about your grade, she doent like to answer it. she will fail you and not want to talk. does not like talking to little people.
her class is very hard. she assumes the students know everything after the lecture. a lot of hw. it doesnt even help for her exams. exams are way different from the lectures and hw. take someone else if you wanna learn and have a good grade. if you take or stay in her class. GOOD LUCK.
hard class.hard grader. dont bother taker her class if you're no good in math. she does not treat you fair if you didnt take her 840 class. she always talks about her former 840 class, so i believe she treats them better than the new students. i will never take her again.
Professor Bravewoman's tests aren't too hard, but she does give you a lot of homework, and that's a good thing because that's what helps you learn!
I love Mary! Mary is not an easy A by any means, but you will not finish this class unless you've learned the material. You should not take her class unless you are a serious math/science major who must understand the material. If you're looking for an easy A so you can meet a general ed requirement, this is not it.
If you attend class on time everyday LIKE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO, listen to her lecture INSTEAD OF HAVING SIDE CONVOS, TXTING OR STEPPING OUT OF CLASS TO PICK UP YOUR BF'S COLLECT CALLS, do the hw and turn it in on time as well as study two weeks before exams/final then you will get an A in the class. Simple as that.
I had Mary Bravewoman spring semester '12 for Math 840. She creates a great class atmosphere and is very passionate about her subject. She makes it a priority to help her students succeed. I am looking forward to having her again this coming semester for Math 60.
Mary does give you HW on every section she covers in class. Concept:Do the HW & the material will sink in. Review or even do sections she will be covering in class that way you can stay ahead of the game. Mary supports & recognizes hard workers. Note takers are rewarded, as examples can sometimes appear in the tests. Focused teacher.
I think this is her first time teaching 110A. please do not take her if you want to learn and have a good grade. very hard class.
Having taken Mary prior, I knew that doing HMWK, showing up to her class, & note taking was a rqrmnt towards striking a good grade. She accommodates by allowing some take-home tests & she offers up weekly office hrs which helps to relieve some of the test anxiety. She has a knack for teaching. I only wish she was teaching Math 90 in the evening.
We have to read textbook by ourselves and finished a huge amount of homework in one time. The test questions are mostly based on textbook. No enough time to balance other classes and read textbook as we had been spent all the time on HW.you have follow her format to answer though you got the same answer.Otherwise, you could not get full points.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! 1. SHE DOESNT GO OVER THE HOMEWORK....OR GIVE YOU THE ANSWER! WHEN YOU ASK HER A QUESTION SHE GIVES YOU A SMART REMARK AND YOU CANT USE A CALCULATOR AND LETS BE REAL EVERYONE USES A CALCULATOR NOW DAYS LOL YOU U GET ALOT OF HOMEWORK THROWN AT YOU SHE EXPECTS YOU TO KNOW EVRYTHING RIGHT OFFF THE BACK SHE MAKE YOU FEEL STUPID.
Prof. Bravewoman is a great teacher. She is challenging, but fair. She really goes to great lengths to make sure students know the material and are prepared for the next level of math. Homework is graded and is part of your grade. Her exams are, again, challenging but fair. Simply put: She provides a real college-level math class. Highly recommend.
She's a stickler! Mary can get VERY pissy about explaining concepts over, and she goes VERY fast. She is, however, approachable outside the lecture and will be flexible if she feels you are actually trying. Her speed was too much for me, and I had to drop her at midterm. I hear she only had a bare minimum of students left at the end.
Tough grader, she educates people about dating in school that is dangerous which is the wrong timing. Don't date while you're in school. I learned a lot from this teacher even though if I have a F. I have a disability in math and I cannot keep up. If you're disability is like mind take Practical Math it can lead you to STATE,UC and AA degree :).
In classes she goes ONLY over the basics, Homework is hard, the the exam are extremely harder the Homework. It is all up to you in learning. She is easily approachable.
You will have seven exams. The first exam will be in-class and others will be take home exams. If you want to pass his class, you have to do homework and read your notes.Note that do not say "FOIL" in Math 40,60,and 90 with her. Please!
you will have 7 exams. the first is an in class to see what you remember. every other one after that will be take home. you get a study guide on the final, don't put any test questions there. overall easygoing and still very efficient. A+++ teacher, highly recommended.
You will have several take home exam.
Mary is a great teacher, you need to focus on what she explains in the classes at try you best in the practice.
Stimulate the mind sophisticated your thought Easy at first look. And sublime at your choise of your thinking
Bravewoman is great! She really explains things in the simplest way possible. She also makes you improve and understand the material for life, not just for the tests. Tests are similar to HW and do all on webassign. I took her summer class and I wish I could take her again. Her group works for extra credit are really good, it can bump your grade :)
Exceptional teacher! Best quality : straight-forward. The amount of resources she provides to students makes it almost impossible to fail her class. Very knowledgeable about the subject and will help you to her fullest. Practice is important, as it is after all math. PS: word of the wise - make use of her office hours. Highly Recommended Professor!
She is aware about lectures, and students. She is knowledgeable, thoughtfully, and good answering questions.
Tough grader, hw is online, be on time. Exams are take home , require a lot of work to stay caught up.
She gives an importance to the lecture, and she works hard to make it easy. She listens to students' questions and answers with easy and clear way. In her class I rebuild my math's knowledge. From here, I would like to transfer my gratitude to you, professor Mary Bravewoman, I hope you teach Math 110B, I will be one of your students.
Easy to understand, helpful, and respectfully
LOVE this class. She makes calculus 2 very manageable. Amazing lecturer, solves many problems in class and lectures are crystal clear. Most of the exams are take home (theyre hard but are I would take that over test anxiety any day) and you can get up to 110% on each if you work with a group/ do an extra problem. Webassign hw w/ 3 attempts per q.
Mrs. Bravewoman knows a lot and she tries her best in her classes, but sometimes her lectures become boring. She gives tons of homework (pay attention about the tons). Usually she gives take home exam, don't get excited about it. They will probably take your entire weekend.
Comparing to others math and non-math teacher, she still get 8 out of 10. Best things about her are she tidily prepare her materials and understand students' difficulties. As long as you read and do all the homework, you will get A.
If you want/need to take calc 2 don't take her! you won't learn the exercise solving skills required and you'll have to focus on how to proof theories like a math major. take home test are too long and hard. I'm discovering now that other calc 1 students worked less and learned more efficient questions solving skills .
Ms. Bravewoman is a great instructor and really passionate about teaching her students. She accessible outside of class and responds back to emails. The downside is HW tend to take about 2-3hrs per sections and test are not that easy although they are take home. If your'e procrastinator and miss class often, you should her. Great instructor though
Just plain awesome. Very inspirational, no nonsense, respectful, informative math teacher who has designed her curriculum to promote student success. As good an instructor as you can hope for, highly recommended.
She is good, but I won't take her class again. She compel every student buy the textbook on a website. There's no other choice but to purchase. As for her class, she explain every step very clearly and logically so it is REALLY SLOW. If you have learnt Calculus before, I think it's better not to take her class.
I took this class last semester and it was the hardest class I have ever taken in CCSF. She doesn't know how to explain the problems in a simple way. She loves to give hard exams. Passing her class is one thing most of the students will not be able to get even C-. Not recommended at allllll!!!
I too math 90 with her and failed it.. I took it in the summer and I passed. I decided to give her another shot and took calc 1. Probably the worst decision of my life! She gives take home test BUT don't get to excited about that, it's very lengthy and Hard! Not recommended
No Calculators on Test or Homework Assignments. Chapter test end two weeks b4 final, which leaves very little room for inclusive study before final. She Does not go over test or make corrections, only gives points earned on test, so you can't gauge where you stand until a grade is given. The idea is not to focus on grades, but mastering concepts.
This teacher just don't care about you so she gives you A LOT of online homework! Take home tests are super hard. Mary knows her material but she can't teach, I went to her office hour for more help but it never helped. TIP: if you failed your first in class test DROP THE CLASS!!
This teacher can't teach! When you keep repeating about the same question she will get mad and you will have the worst lecture of your life. once she's mad the lecture will go faster than a bullet train! During final you can have a one page note but that note cannot have numbers on it!!! MATH WITH OUT NUMBERS IS BASICALLY ENGLISH! SO GOOD LUCK!
She is a very kind lady, super approachable and easy to talk to. Her style of teaching was not suitable for my learning needs. She overloads you with info that you're just left saying "WAIT WHAT" about 99% of the time & zooms thru lessons. I've learned more from the math lab tutors and youtube than her. Nice lady, but I highly DO NOT recommend.
Professor Bravewoman made math clear for me. She is willing time to make sure her students understand. I lost my fear of math because of her. Her class should be labeled « every persons « math as she makes math understood to anyone who works hard. Attend class everyday, do ur homework, study, and u will do well.
If you miss class, don't expect to get a perfect grade on your exams. She goes way too fast in class, and her exam questions typically test if you make a simple error rather than if you know how to use information she taught. (Take home tests)
The best math teacher I've had so far. She is sometimes tough, but that's exactly what you need from a math teacher. Zero tolerance for cheating and mobile phones at the class. Those folks who say she is awful probably think that college is a place where you come to rest and see your friends. Pay attention being at her class and do your homework!
Every test is a take home test except the first test in class and the test before the final. Lots of homework. Offers extra credit for working in a group on tests. You get a full sheet of paper for the final but can't put any examples since she pulls out questions from the take home tests.
She couldnt teach and gave out way too much homework. She doesnt care about you so she just piles on online homework all at once. Tests were really hard since I had to teach myself most of the time. Would definitely not recommend.
test every other week but overall great teacher
bad teacher cute dog
She grades really tough on tests mainly because they're all take home, except for the first and final exam. One small mistake can cost you half the points to a problem. Lectures are very thorough and easy to understand, however homework is definitely harder than problems shown in class. A cheat sheet is allowed on the final. Nice and caring
She is not very responsible, I feel like she is perfunctory. Her score distribution is unreasonable, And her scoring criteria are very casual and often deduct a lot of points.
Lectures are organized, engaging, and thorough - if a bit heavy on the technical definitions and proofs. Every test except for the first and final are take home. Clear and generous grading criteria with lots of opportunity for extra credit. Homework is through WebAssign, which has a small learning curve if you are not familiar with it.
I find Miss Mary to be an excellent mathematician. She is very knowledgeable when it comes to theory and will always be there to answer questions. She is very mellow, a few things will set her off. I however find her to be very unfair. She assumes that every student took high school Cal. She assumes students are majoring in math. Take other class
Her exams are way too off from what she teaches at class. If you are not majoring in math, please do not take her; you won't pass her class. If you are majoring in math tho, she may be a good teacher for you.
I took her over the spring. She is fine, you will learn a lot from her. Her exams can be a little bit off her lectures, but she always has a reason why. Most of her take home exams are easy. Her final exam you get a cheat sheet.
Homework is done and graded online on a service you are forced to buy. There is quite a bit of homework per chapter, but provides a good padding. Rest of your grade is from take-home exams and final exams. The take-home exams were much more difficult than the final. She explains full concepts very well and explains each example/problem clearly.
She is a nice teacher. But she gave a lot of HW. Usually, I spend 2-3 hours per day to finish HW online. Online HW is pretty hard. you have to hard work to get A. Pay attention and take notes in class.
The homework which is all online is what makes up your grade, you can ace all the take home tests but if you decide not to complete the homework you're done for. Her lectures are extremely heavy and hard to keep up with. She's an understanding professor but if math is not your best subject, wouldn't recommend.
Professor Bravewoman was good professor. I took her class in the summer so it was a pretty intense class. Lots of homework to do but they are all online and you had multiple chances to redo the question
She is a great teacher. She knows the topics she is lecturing and has a clear grading criteria, especially in take-home exams, so the pressure of doing in-person quizzes was relieved. She assigns a LOT of homework, so be prepared to turn it in in the deadline, usually one day at midnight.
I took the MATH 98 course, which doesn't show up as a selection, but it was a great class. Prof. Bravewoman is extremely respectful and understanding of questions about the material. She breaks down problems in a way that is simple to understand. You'll need to attend class, but that's typical of math courses. Lots of HW. Take-home exams.
She is very fast, hard to keep up. You will struggle whether to take notes or focus lecture. Explanations like you know everything. Be prepared for lot's of homework, tests or quizzes every week. The finals will consist 30% of total grade and she uses web assign for homework. Her tests are online but the quizzes and finals are in person.
Stay away from this class. She will lecture as if she is working on the problems by herself and moves very fast. If you have no prior knowledge of Calculus, find another professor who will be organized and thorough with their teaching. No class activity at all either take notes or focus on lectures, you can't do both at the same time. RIP her dog.
Bravewoman is a great teacher, very friendly and caring as she offers a ton of office hours and is willing to help you as a student to learn and improve your skills in Calculus. The homework can be a bit too much, however, the homework does prepare you for the exams.
This has been one of the most challenging classes I've ever taken. The pace of the lectures is very fast, covering an entire chapter in just half an hour. The tests are quite difficult, even a (=) sign can lead to an incorrect answer. I would recommend being cautious if you're considering this professor, as it can be a stressful experience
She was an ok teacher, very lecture heavy, very fast paced, but she does explain topics well. The only problem I have with her is that she is a very quiet speaker and I barely hear her during lecture. Oh, and she doesn't grade tests on time. She has a cute puppy though.
Bravewoman's class is challenging, but engaging. The homework is heavy, but useful prep for exams. Attend lectures and use tools like unstuckstudy to stay on top of it all.
nah, 45 questions for one unit of a chapter is crazy, and every chapter has 6 to 8 units. The homework is a good way to practice and review for the test. But 45 questions might be a little too much. She goes very fast pace with her lectures, but she grades very slowly.
Doing extra credit will help with your grade.
Professor Bravewoman is a teacher who is deeply committed to teaching students not only the how, but the why, and is one of the best math instructors I've ever experienced. Yes, she is homework-heavy, so set aside adequate time to study. She works quickly through lectures but is more than happy to stop to address students' questions as they arise.
Professor Bravewoman was an excellent professor, with availability before class to talk about homework or a concept you didn't understand. Lectures are fast paced, but leaves you with excellent notes. I put difficulty at 3 because the class is hard, however, she will help you understand what you don't understand, however, easy if you ask questions
