Mrs. Burke's only concern is to assign massive amounts of homework. She does not understand or want to understand how difficult and time consuming these assignments can be. Do not take her for this class. She is horrible!!!
Do not take Burke for computer Lit CSIT110. She does not instruct students in a proper mannor. If you ask questions she belittles you in front of the class. She is down right horrible! The worst teacher I have ever Had!
Should be teaching higher level courses for people that want to learn.
Am an adult student who did all the work and then she lost my disks. Print all your work before giving her your disks. It saved me
I think Prof. Burke is a great teacher. She know her stuff and was very helpful to me while in her class. She took the time out to make sure I understood the material and how to perform certain tasks. Great Teacher!
burke is a good teacher, who will have no problems with you if u want to learn and show up for class. She assigns alot of work, so if your not up for taking time out of the day for comps dont bother. She wont be your friend, but she wont belittle you.
Took her integrated office software online class - a little consuming, but she explains everything very well and is always in touch and easy to get hold of. Answers questions very quickly.

Burke isn't my favorite...because of the way she grades, but she's cool and an easy A if you put in some work..
The class was not too bad. She is extremely picky when it comes to grading assignments. The slightest error will cost you a few points. She is always willing to meet with you to settle a problem.She expects all work to be perfect, however, the book is terrible.
not a hard teacher but she is def one of the worst ive had, i think she might have gotten mad at me when i proved her wrong in front of the whole class so i may be biased, she looks funny too
Getting over her Boston accent is half the battle. The other half is trying to figure out what she is talking about? That was a tough class! She was no help either!
She is one of the least helpful teachers in the school. She obviously knows her material, just cannot transmit it to her stundents. She also likes to embarass students. Do not take unless no other option.
She is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. She flies through lessons based on what is in the book and doesn't bother to look up from her computer to see if there is questions being asked. So before you know it your too far behind to catch up. Not to mention her stupid accent. NOT HELPFUL DO NOT TAKE HER!!
Wow she sucked... just flew through crap never cared where ne 1 was or how they were doin... i think shes to busy running the technical department to be teaching on the side and she is horrible at explaining things... she bolts through it and explains it like shes explaining it to someone who already knows how to do it... do not take her at all expenses

I have had Prof. Burke twice now, I think her classes for these have become easier overtime since there was no "air port" program that everyone drops the class on, Also, so long as you actually do the work in her classes or ask her or another student for help you will get an A. If you wait until the end your going to fail, she is funny to watch als
If you actually want to learn to program, don't take this class. If you would like to be confused and frustrated, and learn programming techniques 20 years out of date, be my guest.
Sometimes her lectures can get a bit blurry. Specifications on assignments can be a little unclear. She didn't do any grading til the semester end so I had no idea if I was doing anything right. Seemed like she was too busy with her other classes and duties, so we got neglected. Otherwise she is very nice and knowledgable. I learned a lot from her.
HORRIBLE TEACHER! The slightest mistake will make your grade drop severely, she takes points off for everything. Bad with communicating with her students, I had her online, wrote 4 emails in 3 weeks untils he finally emailed me back. She is awful, do NOT take her class, unless you want to fail...
Her class is confusing. The assignments only give you HALF the information and then you are expected to figure the rest out on your own. All the information is out of date. Sure her class might make you "computer literate" if you were taking this course 20 years ago.
If you want to keep your GPA intact, don't take her class. She doesn't give you a chance to learn the material, she barely touches on the book. Only glossing over details here and there. Her assignments are vague and she barely returns emails. She is a rotten professor and shouldn't be teaching at all.

She is the only one who teaches this but her methods are teriable.
Dinosaur. HORRIBLE teacher, teaches linked lists for only one index, then assigns program for two indices. Has you make an app-specific "Template" for it; contradictory. Rarely grades anything. Last few weeks, and only 1 grade. 1 assignment says "filmid is 6 digit number", points off for using atoi(), because "well, what if it's text".
Late with grading work. Takes off massive points.
Only Burke and George teach this class but i prefer Burke. Reminded me of my high school programming teacher. fairly easy teacher. all she asks is that you submit the hw on time. lets you redo assignments for higher grades. If you have a background in java you'll pass with flying colors.
Run for the hills, take this class at another college! She is the worst Prof. I have had at OCC. Her directions were horrible she expects you to write your own website for the final. Your not allowed to use software to help. She's disorganized, of no help, doesn't show up for extra help and she's a very hard grader!
Hardest professor I know. Hard to keep track when she lectures. Wish there was another teacher that teaches this course. She's smart but hard to follow.
This lady does not answer your emails. She expects you to know everything about this course. Shes very unclear, hard-grader, unprepared and unorganized. Please stay away from her. You'll be so confused throughout the whole course. Also she has a bad attitude! If you ask her a question.she will just goes circle and you wont get an answer out of her.
horrible teacher. turned my work in through an email, all late. in her syllabus she states she will grade it with a few points off. in my case she didnt even look at it and gave me all 0's. besides that she is an inattentive, belittling teacher. her grading is confusing, as well as her teaching, and assignments.
I got an A in her class but had to work so hard to get it. It takes her forever to grade assignments and the assignments take hours to do. She is unclear and hard to understand. The only good thing about this class is that she gives you all the assignments day 1 so you know what to expect.
Mary was a very good teacher when I had her. She was tough acedemically but she also fair and is honestly trying to prepare her students for a difficult field. For those complianing that she is too hard, wait until you work in industry to judge that. Seriously if you not into working your butt off you should pick a different major other than CS,
I think she's a nice person, but a horrible teacher. It takes forever to get grades back, and it's hard to understand the material the way she explains it. Depends too much on the book, which is poorly written.
Professor Burke is HORRIBLE!!!!! Her grading system is TERRIBLE. She doesn't offer ANY HELP WHAT SO EVER! SHE HAS NO RESPECT FOR HER STUDENTS AND WILL LAUGH IN YOUR FACE IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE AND ASK HER FOR HELP. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT TAKE THIS INCOMPETENT PROFESSOR!
I'm taking this class online and she seems pretty nice.. the problem is that there's assingments due EVERY NIGHT!! it's taking over my life! I'm taking 3 other classes and this is BY FAR the hardest. I have a background with computers and still finding it crazy hard. I recommend an easier professor.
Class is very easy. You just follow along with the book for homework and the overhead for classwork. There is ALOT of homework assignments. Burke is very nice and ALWAYS willing to help. People who slack in the class do bad, because they are idiots.
does not go into dept, for example the computer programming class. she will only show you the code, not how to actually do it
This class is so easy it's not even funny.. just follow the text and do the assignments. Professor is super nice and even if I messed up a few assignments, she let me resubmit them for extra points. Took her awhile to grade sometimes, but no big deal. Easy class, Easy A.

I hate her. Data structures was insanely hard, I spent countless all nighters on the programs nearly going insane. She would not help me solve my problems. She didn't grade A SINGLE ASSIGNMENT until the semester was over! She's to wrapped up in her own life, doesn't care about students at all. I nearly killed myself for a C.
Lets put it this way: when i wasn't up slaving over her programs, which by the way, she will tear apart for ridiculous reasons, I was stressing out over this class to the point it negatively affected my health. She rambles, she grades ridiculously, and her "help" is just a mass amount of ridiculing. Do not take her, avoid her at all costs.
DEPLORABLE. Never online. Takes days to answer a question. Grades are a mystery. Easy class, poor professor. issues in class not being addressed: required MSoffice 2007 or 2010. however MS2010 is not recognized by SAM. GOOD TIMES! Grades are posted at her leisure.
A lot of negative reviews on here, I don't think she's that bad, I came to programmingI with no C++ experience and now I have lots, I'm planning on taking her again for CSIT 172. It is true she's slow at grading though.
She is incredibly knowledgeable in the CS field. This course was hard for the county college level, but CS is a technical field requiring demanding brain-work. If you go to her, she will help in ways far beyond what's required. I assume those who gave her bad reviews never bothered to ask for help or didn't expect CS to be what it is.
She is the professor from hell! I had to go to the vice-president to fight for my final grade. She was very close to lose her job, which I wish she did. She is rude, useless, arrogant and nasty. Please listen to my words, avoid her if you want to preserve your GPA.
Very good teacher if you are willing to work hard. If you're not willing to work hard then software development may not be the field for you. So if she assigns a lot of work then my advice is to just get use to it because you are being prepared for the realities of the working environment which are just as hard if not harder.
Extremely difficult online class! 110 isn't about computer basics no matter what the description says! It's Binary Numbers, HTML code, and inner workings of hardware. Though, that's not her fault. She's slow to respond and doesn't provide feedback well. Difficult grader that doesn't follow own scale. However, nice in person. Heavy work load!!
WORST ONLINE CLASS EVER DO NOT TAKE YOU WILL BE WASTING YOUR TIME. I busted my butt in this class worked hours upon hours a day trying to pass. Impossible. With the amount of work she gives, and her horrible grading system it is almost impossible to pass. BIGGEST WASTE OF TIME!
Data Structures & Algorithms moves VERY QUICKLY. It HAS to, or you won't be prepared for your transfer to university. Read the book!!! Her programs are VERY DIFFICULT, but once you complete them, you feel ACCOMPLISHED. Go to her if you have problems - she is one of the few profs that actually loves helping. She doesn't bite!!! I promise!

Easy class. I've taken her for multiple classes, and she's easiest in this one. I had no prior database/SQL experience, but I got an A by just doing the homework, paying attention in class, and reading the textbook. Very nice & extremely knowledgeable. Very willing to help.
Worst teacher at OCC. I think she may have been good years ago, but is not unpredictable and sometimes acts totally crazy in class. Most student use the work hate when you mention her name. Very slow grader too.
WORST teacher you could ever take.. Taking Online class, grades paper well after deadlines for due dates making it impossible to resubmit for a higher grade. Very unclear when questions are asked, if she even answers them, which,most of the time does not. Not allowed to "discuss" in a discussion room, you loose points.Ridiculous! DO NOT take her
The problem with her is that she is always late when it comes grading,she told me the reason was because she had to many classes. She reviews all the assignments thoroughly and takes points off on the smallest mistakes. But you wont find out about those mistakes until she submits the grades months later.
horrible teacher. her java programming class was a joke. she goes over a chapters worth of material in one class and grades not only extremely slow but unfair as well. she will take points off for missing a "}" you can learn more java programming on your own then in her class.
I have learned a lot from this woman. She is one of the few teachers that ACTUALLY cares if you pass or fail. Extremely helpful, extremely approachable, very knowledgeable about writing code. Sure she grades stuff late but who doesn't?
Burkefails to post assignments on time and answer emails promptly. She has failed to submit grades in about two weeks so we don’t know where we stand in the course. Points are being taken off assignments for the smallest mistakes, but you don’t have a chance to see what mistakes you made or resubmit them until she grades. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!

She is a terrible professor. She fails to explain what she really wants on assignments, her course-load is ridiculous, and she will give you a complete zero on an assignment that contains one mistake.

You can see she's a very nice lady, but when it comes to her class she doesn't always understand herself of what's going on. We have to get through in class projects all together and she won't even know where half the buttons are that we need to use. Nice lady but not fit to teach a computer literacy class if you don't know how to use a computer.
While she appears to be a decent person, she absolutely has no business being an educational professional. She should stick to working with computers not people. She lacks comprehension of the very subject she is teaching, made us buy a $150 dollar textbook for an access code she said could be purchased alone on the last day of class! DO NOT TAKE!

I have no idea how this woman works at more than one school. She claims shes overwhelmed but proceeds to sign for the five project assignments a week and she doesnt even grade them. She goes way to fast and never explains anything fully. Shes the I wont tell you how to do it Ill do it Ill do it for youequivalent of professors.

Although it was an easy A for me, and the work personally wasn't hard, she didn't know what she was doing. She will blame everyone, even the computer, before herself. Also doesn't have a class access code, so you had to waste a ton of money on a brand new book just for a code. Never used the hard copy. If you want an easy A, I would recommend.
Professor Burke is a very caring teacher, however once she starts she does not stop. She gives a lot of work, but IT is super easy. She says that you are going to get out of class early, but you won't. Ever. Also only buy the IT code, don't buy the physical textbook.
Overall a decent professor. Fairly laid back but gets a little temperamental over having to explain something, repeat something, or walk through a concept with a student, you know, like a teacher.
While she did give extra credit, she has been giving us assignments almost everyday of the week at random! The upside is that she lets us take the online tests as many times as we need, aka, its easy to cheat your way through this class if you don't forget to check your canvas everyday
shell work with you if youre confused, but she wont be happy about it. she moves way too fast; if you miss a class, youre screwed for the rest of the lesson. shes a sweet woman, a bit out there, but not a good educator. her class is very confusing with her teaching style. i would avoid taking her if you can.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! DO NOT TAKE! For a computers professor, she knows nothing. If you do not show up, you will fail. I thought that I could get past these reviews but I was so close to withdrawing. DO NOT TAKE!
Class was straightforward. You have to pay attention in class so you do not miss anything. She will take points off for small mistakes on class assignments, and you have assignments weekly but you have several days to do them and they are easy. Theres a few exams and group projects but overall the class is very easy and the professor is nice.
I had taken this class thinking it was going to be simple & straightforward, no. This professor is I think the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. She makes you feel terrible for asking for help, and is very passive aggressive when helping you. She gives an overwhelming amount of work & she is just absolutely terrible.
Professor Burke is a very nice woman. I'm not sure why the reviews are so negative on her. It was clear that she struggled with some things online, but she is an older woman. The assignments are straight forward and very easy. As long as you do the homework you get an A.
