Don't take her unless you like to write and are prepared to work for your grade. I got an A in her class but it came from a lot of hard work. If you are in the scholars program, you'll probably have her class. Either way, be prepared!

Easiest teacher in the world. This is an easy A. Trust me.

Very nice lady. Enjoyed her class very much but could see how others wouldn't. She is a tough grader, but students these days need to be challenged. I found her office hours very helpful. She is easy to talk to and get help from.

She is not as bad as everyone says. If you do your work u pass. She even allows work that was due weeks ago. How nice can a teacher get. I got an A in her class. All the complainers in the ratings u see above or below are a bunch of lazy a**es who don't do their work.

She's great, I had her for a scholars class and I did very well despite the fact that I turned all my papers in late. She really likes the drama and poetry sections and spent a lot of time on them. I think she's great!!! Extremely nice and proof read all my papers and added good feedback. No test just essays! Good teacher give her a chance.

Teacher is clear on the instructions. She speaks to students individually and takes the time to explain you what you need to do to improve. She may be slightly hard grader but does it because she wants her students to get better. She offers the option to rewrite essays. I was satisfied with her class and i imporved my writing.

Good teacher. Her methods have made me imporve in English, specially the way i write essays. She takes the time to explain to you how you can do better. She does grade a little hard, but the result is very beneficial. you should take this class with her if your ready to learn. She gives very few amount of homework.

Reading material was great and so were class discussions. 3 essays and a final. Large 10 pg research paper at the end was tough, but do-able. You have a chance to rewrite any essays that you were unhappy with. Prof. Fonseca is an overall nice person.

She is the best teacher ever! If you want to be prepared for a higher educatina, take her.

Ok professor. I wrote my best essays but always got B's. It doesnt really bother me cuz I suck a english. With the B i got i believe she is very generous.

She is a very helpful professor--fair and understanding. She is always willing to help out her students after class and she really does help improve your writing skills. Her standard is extremely high, but its not impossible to get an A if you are persistent and you want to learn. I recommend for the passionate.

Even though I got a C with this teacher I felt I learned a lot in this class. Fonesca is a very tough grader but she allows, and expects, rewrites for papers and meets with every student to give them advice on how they can improve their rewrite. She can be at times unorganized and doesn't stick to the syllabus but over all she's very interesting.

If u want to get an "A" in this class, u'll need 2 work EXTREMELY hard. ur better off not taking her.2 get good grades on papers, write down her opinions in class & write that down on your paper. Then go see her before it's due 2 have her check over it. She does let you rewrite papers. Don't be surprised if ur grade doesn't go up more than 2 pts th

She is very cool, pretty laid back. She makes you read and write weekly journals and reading cards. You think a lot you what's cool about her is she lets you turn in papers late and lets you redo them for better credit.

Let me give it to you straight. She is a nice lady and doesn't mind students coming in late. Very clear in her teachings and generous enough to let you redo your essays. The ONLY thing bad about her is her grading. It has to be absolutely perfect in order to get an A. Other than that she's pretty cool. She wasn't as bad as i thought she would be.

She is a really nice teacher. You have 4 essays and a final...you don't even need to show up to class, its a super easy class but its hard to get an A because she is a strict grader and your only grades are the essays. My advice is write down everything she says and put it in your essays and then you'll have a fighting chance at a good grade.

Took her for 21A, 21B, and now currently taking her for Eng. 1 Scholars. Her 21's are pretty easy. But English 1 is hard. Shes a really nice person and is very helpful. She let you rewrite an essay once for a better grade.

professor fonseca is a great teacher. She is very helpful and will always talk about what she expects in her papers. people who say otherwise are just lazy. overall she was great.

Don't listen to the negative comments. It's true that she's a hard grader, but she's FAIR--she lets you rewrite the essays. There are 4 essays and a pain-in-the-*** research paper. But her in-class discussions are really interesting and she prepared us well. I had As on all of my papers and if you put in the effort, you will too!

Took her over winter. Class itself is very discussion heavy but she makes sure to give you all the info you need for your essays. 4 essays, no home work, easy final but she's a pretty tough essay grader. You get to redo the first one and you can talk to her about your essays so laziness is your only excuse to not ace this.

Highly recommend her. Yes, it's a lot about class discussions but as long as you do the reading you're good.

Just took her for fall 2010, my first eng scholars class. Honestly, she's hard but you will learn how to be a very clear well elaborated writer. she preps you up for UC. She's pretty tough though, but fair. You write alot about globalization, world issues and fudgin* politics. Take her and you'll be a better writer.

The secret to acing this class? Talk to her about your essay topics. Seriously, she will help you understand what points you need to include. I'd get low scores on my essays, but after seeing her after every essay, I'd get a high B or low A. Just don't be lazy. No hw, fun discussions

Good professor. Class is discussion based. You can get away with skipping class once in awhile as long as you understand the reading. She's a tough grader but she really wants her students to succeed. Take this for scholars. It's not at all more difficult than other English 2 classes.

She is very helpful. She knows what she is doing, you just have to do the work.

Difficult but fair. She lets you make a rewrite and tells you what you need to improve. Really develops your writing skills. May lower your GPA, but it's worth it if you wanna better your writing skills

I took Prof. Fonseca in the Winter in 2014. She only assigned three papers. She was very clear in what she expected and allowed us to redraft our papers with her comments in mind. She truly wants her class to understand the material and we always had very insightful interesting lectures. Got an A and had a lot of fun.

It seems like a lot of students downgrade her just because of her less lenient grading criteria but if you want to really improve your writing for the sake of learning, take Professor Fonseca. She genuinely cares about the betterment of her students and is readily available whether it's for reviewing essays or aiding with transfer preparation.

Her class is very laid back. We discuss the stories that are assigned for you from the night before. No home work, 3 papers and a final that she allows you to bring notes for. She really cares about the students. She is a tough grader but she allows you to do rewrites. Just participate and pay attention to her feedback.

Very fun class, helped my writing and analytical skills greatly. Essay topics seemed dry at first but turned out quite interesting. Class grade is based on 550 total possible points but you only need 450 points to earn an A which turns out to be around an 83% average. Make sure to ask lots of clarifying questions and participate in discussions alot

Great teacher, really improves your analytical and writing skills. Gives help when asked, and is a fair grader. She wants her students to do well. Participate in discussions. Grade is based on 3 papers, participation, and a final. As long as you do the work and pay attention, you will get a good grade.

Professor Fonseca is phenomenal! She is super laid back, but also makes YOU work for your grade. She wants her students to do well, but won't spoon feed you. Most of the class was discussing short stories, plays and poems. She's really great at helping you get deeper into the reading and is a very kind person. Improved my analytical skills greatly

She's really nice I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about she gives the reasonable amount of homework and it's super easy, just do it and you'll pass with flying colors.
