She rocks!! I hated chemistry, and she has made it FUN! (that is her motto) Very Clear, even usually people to demonstate bonds, it really makes organic chemistry click!! I would take her unless you have no other choice even if it means waiting a semester!
I really liked her a lot. She did make chemistry fun even at 800 in the morning. Her tests are not bad and I would recommend that you take her if you need to take chemistry.
She calls her self the "**** Gerhard," and she can be just that at times. However, I personally liked her a lot. She was very helpful and very clear, whatever the subject matter. She also has a good sense of humor, which makes for a fun time in her class. If you like to have fun, get her.
She really teaches! Doesn't just outline the text, she does demonstrations and works examples with students in class. Funny and bright but expects respect and hardwork. Great class!
Love her love her love her! I learned so much in her lab it's rediculous. Just remember her mantra "Chemistry is Fun" and you may start believing it.
great
Best teacher ever!
Best science teacher I have ever had. She makes class fun and exciting and is absolutely hilarious! She is always willing to help in any way she can. Is just an awesome person.
I really liked her. Great personality. Made a long, tedious 4 hour lab about as bearable as it can be. She explained the processes very well, and was always around and very helpful. I hate lab professors tendencies to disappear at crucial times, but she never did that.
If UNCG had 200 Mary Gerhards teaching, this school would be the best school on earth. She is simply fantastic. A must have professor if she doesn't leave.
Professor Gerhard is the most amazing teacher I have ever had. I hated chemisty but have gotten A's on every test. She is helpful, funny, nice, and easy. She made class at 8 am fun and interesting. She is willing to explain. Test come directly from notes she gives. I wish every teacher I had was like her. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!
I switched to her class and went from a C to an A-. Her teaching style and genuine concern for her students made the 8am class worth it. She rewards your in-class participation with chocolate!!!!
She was awesome after having to deal with Reitz's crappy teaching style. I went from a C to an A. Just do the hand outs and show up and you can do great. Mandantory attendance but it was an 8 o'clock class. Take her!
Hmmmm... What can I say... She likes to hear herself talk. Acts like she still teaches high school, what with making you do the girl scout quiet sign. Easy class though so I cant complain.
4 exams and your attendance make up your grade. Exams were straight from notes- her book is used only for extra problems (and can be checked out from the library). Overall teaches at a high school level- likes to share little whitacisms...overall very nice. Fun lady! Don't miss class. The 8am wasn't so bad.
She has a interesting class. But she has some fire in her so keep on her good side. She caught me texting and called me out in front of everyone else.It was kind of funny. But be prepared for a morning person not afraid to say whatever comes to her head.Oh and tests can be hard!! Do the practice problems they will save your butt on the tests!!
she is a high school teacher at best, this was not a college level course
Great Teacher, I would highly recommend taking her. Class was based off of 4 tests. If you simply studied the notes from class you're sure to get an A in the class. Truth be told i only briefly studied the material but that was because i learned and knew the stuff back in high school and made 3A's and 1B on ms G's exams. TAKE THIS CLASS! BEST EVER
Great teacher! Go to class and study your notes and you are sure to make an A. She takes her tests straight from her notes!
Mrs. Gerhard is just scatter-brained and very unhelpful. The exams are very hard and don't come from her teachings. I would recommend avoiding her at all costs.
Mrs. Gerhard is not a good teacher at all. But this material is easier than in 104 and is mostly math. The book also doesn't help... she gives you problems in the book that don't even pertain to the material we are taught.
Mrs. Gerhard is one of the best teachers I've had. She made the class interesting and connected chemistry to everyday life. Although her tests are relatively hard, I never saw anything she hadn't taught us or exposed us to. She has a sarcastic sense of humor which helps lighten the mood. I would highly recommend her. She makes Chemistry fun.
She doesn't make things too difficult, but she's really annoying because she tried to be cool by talking about sex and alcohol and I think it's horrible to promote that to a bunch of impressionable college students who just got away from home. Class is pretty easy, though.
She's decent. Not the best...not the worst. You have to come to class if you want to understand things. She takes her exams directly from the notes.
Ms. G is awesome! I was a little frightened going into the class, but it really isn't that bad. But you do need to dedicate time to studying. There are no pop quizzes or quizzes in general, but attendance is mandatory. The tests were easy, but you HAVE to study. And I suggest to start early, because it is a lot of information to know.
She is great teacher actually making chemistry FUN! Her tests are almost verbatim from the notes she gives in class(I only opened my book 1x), and attendance is mandatory. Take Mrs. G...she's great!
This teacher is flat out annoying. I don't write anything down that wasn't pretyped out on notecards or powerpoint. I felt as though when she walked into class was the first time she had ever seen the notes. When someone asks a question she trips over herself and the class gets more confused. Unfortunatly she is the only teacher doing 104.
Amazing! I love her. She made me love chemistry because she really does make everything interesting and relates aspects of chemistry to everyday things...as long as you study her notes, you should be good for the tests :) DON'T SLACK OFF AND GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY!
I had her for chemistry 103 and presently, 104, and I really like her. Chemistry 103 was a little bit tougher for me, but I ended up passing with a B, and currently, in 104, I have an A. My advice is to go to class everyday, start studying early, go to SIP, and talk to her if you're having problems! She's extremely sweet. Great teacher! =)
had her for 103 & 104. never having taken a chemistry class in high school, i was, of course, frightened about the course. she was fantastic, i made a B in 103, A in 104. best teacher i've had so far. I LOVE YOU MRS. GERHARD!!!
Mrs. Gerhard is like having a crazy high school teacher, she's great though. You kind of do have to do a good bit of learning outside of class, just because she doesn't really explain the material that well, but she'll always answer whatever questions you have. She's fun-loving and her class is not that bad if you go to class and study.
Jokes around a lot. I can't learn from teachers who aren't serious. This is typically a hard course and her playing around made it difficult to learn. I HIGHLY recommend getting a tutor and forming a study group within your class. SIP could be helpful if you have a good leader; I prefer study groups and one-on-one tutoring. STUDY. Tough class
I had Mrs. G for 103 & 104. She is a GREAT teacher in 103. She can really explain stuff if you don't understand it. It also is a visual class because it's more math. 104 is a lot harder and she's not a great organic teacher. But it's a very fun class! I recommend her.
MRS.G IS CRAZY. DISORGANIZED, AND VERY GOOFY.SHE MISGRADED TEST NUMEROUS TIMES, AND ITS HARD TO FOLLOW HER TEACHING.
Ms. G was helpful outside of class, but I didn't feel like she explained the material very clearly during lecture. She put notes up with minimal explanation, and used examples that didn't seem relevant. She also changed her attendance policy halfway through the semester. For the most part, her teaching style seemed inconsistent and unclear.
This class killed my soul every morning. She is disrespectful to adult students and teaches like a high school teacher. Talks down to her students when they ask her innocent questions. She'll even embarrass students regarding their food choices. Don't go to class without reading the book. EVER. She is a b with a capital c.
I HATED THIS PROFESSOR! If possible, do not take her class. Her teaching ability is very poor. She gets off topic. I hated getting up to go to this class. She uses a program called OWL and gives you ridiculous assignments on it. They are POINTLESS. Take it from me, I loved Chemistry until I had Mrs G. Find a different Professor is at all possible!!
Mrs. Gerhard is really "out there." She somewhat knows how to teach the class but she seems very unapproachable outside of the class when you ask for help and seems to be a bit antisocial despite of how she seems to teach during class.
Very god instructor. Has no problem assisting you when needed. She is very patient. There is barely any out of class work, and the tests are strictly on the material taught in class.
Professor Gerhard has been one of my favorite professors at UNCG so far. If you attend class and take notes it's a pretty easy class, plus she is more than willing to answer your questions. I did almost all the homework she posted from the book and read and got an A in the class.
Ms. Gerhard was a horrible teacher. Her class is super hard. The lectures are boring and she just reads the powerpoint to you because she does not know the information. Attendance is mandatory she takes roll everyday. If you have a question, forget it because she won't answer you or your e-mails. I had a tutor and still got high 70's on the test.
She is so interactive and always helpful, and if you do the work online the class seems easier. Loved her class the most.
I LOVE Mrs. Gerhard! She is a very funny person, and she explains chemistry well. Her teaching style may seem odd (she lets you copy the slides to your notes, then talks about them and gives examples so you have time to get them all down) but it worked for me :) As long as you attend class and complete all the assignments, you'll do fine!
She may seem alittle strange at first, but she really does care about the students. There are no tricks. The tests are on what is covered in class, so if you payed attention and took notes from her powerpoint, it's really not a problem. Assigned seating was dumb, but if that's the worst of it, it's not a bad class.
I have Professor Gerhard for Chemistry 103. I've always hate Chemistry in High School, so i was really nervous about not doing well in this class in college. But Gerhard is a really easy teacher & her tests are right from her notes/lecture. There are no tricks. Just go to class, copy the slides, & you'll do great! :)
I absolutely loved this class. Prior to signing up for this class, I hated Chemistry. I could never understand or grasp the information. Mrs. Gerhard helped me actually come to like Chemistry. She is a great teacher. Do the homework she assigns on blackboard..it really helped me a lot with the tests.
She is a great teacher! The first half of the semester you had assigned seats but it was to keep the talking to a minimum! As an adult student I agreed because voices would carry in the classroom! Looking forward to her again next semester.
She is fantastic. Be a student : go to class, take notes , do your homework study for the test and you will get an A. She really care about students . Before her class I hated chemistry , now I think "chemistry is fun "
Had her for 103 & 104. Mrs. Gerhard was SUCH a character. Loved her! Her test are literally right off of the powerpoints, so study those. I only opened the book once in both semesters so I would just check it out from the library if you want to do the practice problems for 103. 104 was easier for me because it didn't involve math, but some say 103.
She is funny but confused me a lot in class when she wasn't prepared! When I did have a question I tried emailing her and she never replied (though she made a smart remark about what I asked her in front of the class). Overall I tried and made a C in the class. It's unfortunate no one else taught Chem 104.
She is really fun and uses a lot of examples to help clarify the subject. She gives study guides before every exam if you know everything on the study guide then you will get an A on that exam. Sometimes she can be a bit bipolar but all together a great helpful teacher
Over all her class is pretty easy. However, i did not enjoy her class due to the attitude she presents. I do feel as though if you want to take her class you need to have the attitude of wanting to learn or else she will emberass you in the class.
She has dry humor but shes nice. You use iClickers and she tells homework in the book but you dont have to do it. But you have to do assignment on OWL and they really help you. Only used the book a little so you dont really need it. The tests are like 40 questions and everything is off the powerpoints. I learned the math stuff off of OWL. Shes good
She is the best chemistry instructor at UNCG. She really does care and always trying to find better ways to teach her class so that we understand the material. Her notes are extremely helpful. I highly recommend you taking her. Have had her 2 semesters in a row and if I get another chance I will take her again in another CHE course <3 (:
She knows her stuff and teaches you exactly what is going to be on the test, so there are no surprises. I learned a lot in her class and would recommend her to a friend. Excited for 104 this semester!!
You really have to study and read the book for this class. She gives you the slides it is a lot of information but if you study you should get a decent grade
She expects you to do the homework (You have to turn it in when you take the tests)but it's really easy. She doesn't test you on the things that she doesn't talk about so show up to class and you'll be fine. I had a lot of fun in her class!
Her class shouldn't be too difficult if you actually study and show up for class and take the notes. Her notes really dumb down the text book, making things more clear and precise. The only thing that really ruined the class was her attitude towards her students, which was rude and stand-offish.
The class could have been a lot worse, if Ms. Gerhard didn't teach it, but lots of times she seemed confused about the subject. She was much better at 103 than 104. She's nice as long as you aren't rude.
Always has clickr points and online and textbook homework every chapter (it's easy though). Tests are DIRECTLY from lecture. Easiest chemistry class I could ever imagine although sometimes she often makes a lot of mistakes while doing math problems for the class. Over all, easy class
As long as your come to class, take notes, read the text, and study for the tests you shouldn't have a problem getting an A or B in this class. If you need help, don't email her, go to her office hours. It is more helpful and she REALLY likes meeting students face to face. She is also really funny and wacky.
Come to class daily, do the homework thats assigned, and study and theres no reason you shouldn't make an A or a B. :) Overall a lot better than CHE103
She is one of my favorite professors. Her tests are easy and you will do good in her class as long as you attend class and do your work. Just dont use a cell phone in her class
Even though she is very nice and tries to get you to understand, he can get lost in her own slides. Power points she post online sometimes isn't what is presented during class. She also takes a while with responding to emails.
READ THE TEXTBOOK AND YOU WILL ACE THIS CLASS! Her notes are whack, but if you come to class prepared and take your own notes, the material is easier to grasp. iClicker required for attendance. Show respect and don't have electronics in sight or she will be offended and embarrass you.
Super easy class! The tests come straight from the power points. Uses iClicker for attendance and some quizzes, but most of your grade comes from the tests. She teaches everything well and she really knows her stuff.
I don't understand why she has such a low rating on here. I took her for Chem 103104 and she is by far 1 of the best teachers I have had. I remember @ the beginning of the 1st semester when she sent an email to her students before class started, I was scared bc it seemed like she would be awful. Don't be fooled, she is a wonderful teacher!
I really enjoyed her class. She is a stickler when it comes to texting in class, however, she was a really good professor. Her classes were always interesting and she really knows what she is doing when it comes to teaching. Make sure to do the homework, it will really help when it comes test day.
Be prepared to teach yourself the textbook. She comes to class unprepared most days, she sometimes doesn't even understand her own power points. However, if you read the textbook and take good notes its not hard to pass the tests with okay grades.
Tough teacher. she's not as warm and inviting as most people say she is. Doesn't answer emails in a timely manner. Didn't really like her teaching style either.
Attendance was mandatory because of clickers but besides that as long as you actually pay attention in class and review for the tests the night before for a few hours, her class is very easy.
Gerhard is wonderful! The exams come straight from what she teaches, so take notes so you can understand the material on the PowerPoint presentations. Try not to come in late, leave early or talk while she is lecturing, she'll call you out and you'll just look like a fool. Her class is easy and she is a great professor, just don't piss her off!
She knows the subject well but PowerPoint only graze the surface of what's needed for hw and tests. Online resource is rather expensive but comprehensive, takes 3-4 hours at least to do hw, more if you thoroughly read. The negatives are, she gives barely any help outside class and if she does respond then she is slightly rude and snappy in manner.
4 test but you have at least 3 OWL homework assignments for each chapter. The class was easy and if she didn't talk about it in class it wasn't on the test. Everything was very simplified and I never used the book. Take 103 and 104 back to back you keep the OWL code w/o buying new & you use the same book. Post powerpoint with most info for class.
Mrs. Gerhard was an amazing teacher and has left a lasting impression on me about chemistry. She's strict with class rules however if you study for her exams you'll be just fine. Exams are NOT easy. You're going to have to work.
This class is not easy but if you study what she gives you you'll do well. She is very nice even though she doesn't come across that way. The PowerPoints are very direct and easy to follow.
This is like high school chemistry, so it's not really hard. She has strict rules against phones and talking in class. Exams are based off of what she teaches in lecture. Know the powerpoints and you'll be fine. Textbook is good for practice problems, but you don't really need to read it.
Mrs. Gerhard was great for CHE103, however, it seems like that is about the extent of her expertise. On 3 occasions that I have noticed, she has taught incorrect material. I only approached her about it once though, because she became very defensive. Attendance is mandatory for clicker points, but you can learn everything in the textbook & pass.
CHE103 with her is quite easy and relatable, however it seems as though she is quite scatterbrained when it comes to this course. Many of her power points are taken from other teachers, and often times she is not able to explain many of them. With such, the class is not too difficult, just study the power points and you will be fine.
Would definitely take her class again. Her powerpoints were easy to follow and the study guides she provides are very comprehensive. She gives you the resources you need to be successful in her class. Didnt take her for 103 ,big mistake . Would recommend for 103 +104
Mrs. Gerhard doesn't play around! She makes her expectations VERY clear and she's very strict but a very good teacher! She makes it so that the students understand and she heavily incorporates participation in her lectures! DO NOT PULL OUT ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICES ! her tests are easy and the notes are VERY helpful !
This was my second time having this professor and she was just as good as the first time i had her ! She has high expectations and she's strict but she's a wonderful teacher and wants the best for her students ! NEVER HAVE YOUR CELLPHONE OUT ! she will not be happy ! But pay attention in class and printing off the notes is helpful & you'll be fine!
I loved having her!! She uses props in class to help you visualize what you are learning, and has people volunteer to give a demonstration. You'll need an iClicker, because she gives in class questions to take attendance for the day, so make sure to go to class! They aren't hard questions. Go to class and study the powerpoints, and you'll pass!
Gerhard is a really good professor. She breaks things down into ways you will learn to remember things better for the class. The worst thing is absolutely HAVING to be at every single class. Attendance is graded via clicker. She is very into doing clicker questions/quizzes. Overall, she's a bit goofy but worth taking her class.
Tests really matter in this class because they are your only grade besides homework assignments. She doesn't post all grades on canvas so its hard to know your real grade in the class. Her lectures are very easy to understand and all of her powerpoint are online if you need them. I have done very well on all her tests and the homework are easy As.
An amazing teacher, she does not just lecture you but actually teaches to make sure students understand.
Mrs. Gerhard is an amazing teacher. She tests you based on the power points, mainly on little things most people look over. I took her at 8 am and she really makes the class fun. If you don't come to class, you will pass. She posts powerpoints on line for easy access. All homework assignments are easy.
Mrs. Gerhard is a very good teacher and she loves what she does. She does take attendance and I suggest you go. Lecture are very straight forward and comes straight from power points. She has jokes and they are kind of funny. She does not let you use you cellular device, she will take it! She does not like talking and squeaky chairs is a NO GO!
She reads off the powerpoints and pretty much nothing else. The homework can be very different from the things she's taught in class. Be prepared to teach yourself because goodness knows she's not going to do it. Attendance is graded even though she puts her powerpoints online and I could learn just as much from the comfort of my own bed.
Mrs. Gerhard was fantastic! She very obviously loves Chemistry and it shows in her teaching. She's helpful, funny, explains things well, and gives study guides for exams. She also does a review, albeit quickly, but I still appreciate knowing what to expect on the exam.
Mrs Gerhard is great at her job! I have always struggled with chemistry and she makes it fun. I had her for 103 and 104. I would recommend her for BOTH classes. Her test are ALWAYS what she gives on the study guides. WILL CALL YOU OUT if you are late and especially if you have your phone out during class.
I thought Gerhard was really fun. She makes the class fun and she's got some good jokes. She'll stare at the class until people at least laugh to make her feel better for trying to hard. The test are very fair, exactly what she says will be on it. She gives study guides if you go to class before the test. Also just a very good person overall.
Mrs. G is awesome! She's tough, and she won't let you play games in her class. She is a great lecturer, and she is so sweet and caring! If you have any trouble GO TO HER OFFICE!!!! She will do everything she can to help you, plus she'll give you candy!
She tries to make lectures interesting, and it usually works. One of the best professors I have ever had. Make sure to study for her tests, though! If you study, they aren't bad at all.
Hands down my favorite professor this semester. Science is not a strong subject for me, but she made it much easier to understand. Attendance taken by iClicker, so you have to go to class. Her tests are fair and not super hard. She's a very entertaining lecturer!
Ive had her for CHE 103 and CHE 104. She never answers emails, is confused by her own powerpoints, and is rude to students. If you ask her a question in class she will make you feel stupid for asking or not knowing the answer. Very discouraging
Ms. Gerhard is my all time favorite professor. She is tough when she needs to be, but more than often hilarious and cheerful. Pay attention, keep your cell phone put away, and keep your chair from squeaking, and you'll be fine. Her study guides are spot on, and her examples make class fun.
Makes you work for your grade. I am not a fan of her Classes are very challenging and seemed no matter how much i studied I still struggled. She is hard to talk to when going to office hours. I am the type of person who needs encouragement whenever I am doing bad. If your the same way, DO NOT go to her office hours Almost changed my major bc of her
Funny and
You need the access code for this class. I didn't use the textbook at all for this class. Put in effort and you'll get an A in this class. She only answers to emails with CHE 104 in the subject so make sure you do that. She's a nice professor overall.
She tries to make class fun! She shows a few experiments in class, calls students down to act chemistry things out. Her PowerPoints are straight forward and her test questions are straight to the point and right off the PowerPoint. Participation in class is iClicker questions, which count as your attendance not accuracy.
Pay attention in class. Clicker questions for attendance. Dont need to buy the textbook. In class, she moves very quickly so take notes prior to class.
She tries hard to make the lectures fun and interesting. She is funny and pretty crazy. The tests are based on the power points, not the book. She takes attendance by clicker questions. Not a hard class if you try.
Honestly a good professor! She teaches everything on the test but Ken also very realistic. Shes not going to sugar coat anything and shes not going to give you a grade you dont deserve.
Mrs. Gerhard was a great professor! I had her for both Chem 103 and 104. She posts power points online and her tests are based off those entirely. attendance was mandatory and you can miss up to two classes put missing more does not affect your grade by much. Easiest A I have ever gotten but make sure you study for tests and know the material.
Mrs. G is a very good teacher. I will suggest that if you are not a morning person do not take a course with her in the morning. The tests are not incredibly hard if you study the powerpoints. She is willing to help anyone if you ask.
Participation is apart of your grade but she is by far the best professor I have ever had.
Gerhard is the only chemistry teacher that I would recommend. If you actually participate in class but never study, you should at least make a C/C-. She can go off on tangents from time to time. However, they're usually relevant to the concept being taught. Tests make up most of your grade.
Mrs. Gerhard is the best Chem 103 professor. Test are based off powerpoints, homework is online and she is very willing to help if you have any questions whether it's about the test, homework, or powerpoints. It's really easy to make an A as long as you show up and study a bit.
Amazing professor who respects you if you respect her, tests are fairly easy if you go to class and study, gives very helpful study guides and practice sheets before tests, do NOT need the textbook for this class (but do need the access code), the only Chem 103-104 professor I would recommend.
Had Gerhard for 103 & 104. She's funny and relates the lectures to real life. Uses people in her demonstrations so it's easy to understand. There's a textbook for the class but you don't need to use it. Go to class it really helps. She's accessible outside of class. She's such a sweet person 10/10 recommend for 103 & 104
Had her for CHE 103 and 104. Just go through her powerpoints, didn't need her textbook except for the Mastering Chemistry access code. The mastering chemistry helps boost your grade. She does her best to make her lectures entertaining. Shes such an amazing and sweet professor, respect her and she'll respect you.
This class is so easy, she explains everything pretty well and I honestly barely studied. Just had to listen and it's not too boring.
- Accessible outside of class/cares about her students succeeding. - Only negative thing is she goes through slides fast and doesn't let you have any device to pull up the slides on your own. So you have to go back afterwards and catch what you missed. - Exams are very fair, exactly like the lectures/drops lowest exam.
Gerhard is a lovely person and an ok teacher. She is very behind on tech (you won't ever know your grade bc she doesn't put it in canvas) but is always willing to tell you if you ask. It took me half a semester for me to warm up to her, but now I like her. She is always willing to answer questions. Her tests are not hard, just study the slides.
The class is not super difficult but she is not a good teacher. She is very entertaining and funny though.
