This teacher does not explain, she uses a horrible book and she dosent go over any homework. She also assigns to much homework and us students have no idea how to do the work.
she makes sure we all pass. i like that
She really knows it's a class that noone wants to take and tries her best to help everyone pass. Very nice, cool woman. As a person she gets a 5 rating, as a eacher id say 3. She's probably one of the better people to have for remedial Algebra 2.
I thought she was a good teacher. Was always availible for outside of class help, which is very nice. She uses blackboard in very effective ways.. get her as a teacher
This class was very easy and she is always willing to help students out of class. She is very nice. She sometimes over explains things such as math problems. Shes way too easy because she tells you exactly what shes puttin on tests or quizzes and even gave the midterm as a take home group assignment
Very nice lady. Good lecturer. Easy homework. Doesn't give any surprise problems on any exams, very straight-forward. Should be a walk in the park.
Math 70, horrible teacher stay away from her!
I tried to ask her for my letter grades when i was doing the course and she didnt tell me. Don't take her.
I thought she was going to be a broad the first day, but she isnt that bad. She gives take home midterms, and gives a good amount of time to do hw, but she NEVER GOES OVER IT, which is bad. She'll help you after class, but she always seemed distracted, and she ended up failing me, although I worked my ass off in that class, and she could tell. >_<
She is GREAT!!! she explains her meterial very clear & well. her quizes are very easy; they're like 10 min long only & she gose over the stuff that's on the quiz the day before. and hw are due every fri. I loved her class!
She cannot teach Statistics at all. It's her first time teaching and she doesn't know what the hell she is doing. She's always late, disorganized and goes too fast. Her lectures aren't even related to the Hw and she assings soo much hw but when u ask her to go over it she doesn't! Horrible at stats.....don't take her because u'll be miserable!
HORRIBLE TEACHER! CANNOT TEACH STATISTICS......PLEASE DON'T TAKE HER.. I don't know even know why she's a teacherb/c she sucks at it....bad bad bad
HORRIBLE!!!! she went waaaaaaaay too fast... very unclear.... just HORRIBLE!! the class is very uninteresting as well
she sticks to the point. SHe pretty much gives you the easy way of doing problems. its very usefull
This is the best math teacher I've ever had. She teaches things clearly, answers questions thoroughly, and her tests and quizzes are predictable. Also, she doesn't care if you come to class. Cal I is hard and does require work, but if you're willing to put in the work then Halloran makes it easy to get a decent grade. All in all a great teacher.
Great teacher, she breaks everything down in the lecture, the homework is resonable and helpful due every week. 10 min quizzes based on the homework topics. everything is very straight forward. if you have a question dont be afraid to ask. she is very understanding and will do what she can to help you.
Good teacher. She breaks down the materials so that students can easily understand. She doesn't check attendance. Tests are easy, based on class lectures and HWs. Ask any questions you might have, she's always willing to help you.
she goes WAY too fast and when you come in for office hours she still goes way to fast. i'm not getting anything right now
Very helpful professor. Answers questions you have in during lecture. Goes over hmwk problems beginning of class to make sure you understand. Homework due every every week. Short 1-4 problem quiz given during sections. 3 midterms and 1 final. Gives study guides and reviews a lot. Can use a cheatsheet for tests. Made calculus understandable.
I love her. Seriously. I was worried at first because she goes fast and i am not a math person but she was so helpful. Office hours people she will explain everything 2 you, one on one. Math is hard so if your having trouble go to class. Her quizes are directly off the home work. tests are a little hard but you get 2 pages of notes. Very nice lady!
Not a bad class, and I dislike math. Weekly quizes right from the homework. Tests are fair. Does not collect homework, but do it for the quizes. Some Microsoft Excel assignments, but never took super long. Helpful office hours.
If you're not good at math to begin with, don't take her. She zooms through the work, and is still too fast during office hours. Excel assignments (on computer) were slightly difficult, too.
She is the best math teacher I have had in a long time. She seems to care that the students understand the concepts and advises about useful math websites. She has a lot of energy and can go quickly, but will slow down if you ask.
she is a nice and helpful professor. But the subject itself is hard and her lecture may be a bit fast because she need to cover a lot of things in Cal 2. However, her exams are not hard if you study her note and do homework, you should do fine in that class.
Mary is by far the best lecturer I have had at SFSU. She is very clear in her lectures and shows that she cares about her students and how well they do. She goes above and beyond to make sure you understand the material and her tests are really easy. She can grade hard on homework, but if you have questions just ask.
This professor is awesome. She's goes out of her way to make sure that you do well and understand the material. She's extremely helpful if you go to her office hours and she won't make you feel dumb even when you ask the dumbest questions. If only we had more professors like her.
She really does zoom by material. Ask her questions and she'll try to address them, but you'll end up not understanding what she said. Homework is due online at random times and it's also very unclear. Most of the time, nobody knows what she's talking about, and she's very "all over the place". I don't recommend her =/
She's wacky, but that makes her hilarious. She's extremely helpful and easy. She will love you if you go see her at her office hours & helps you so much. She is interested in having the class pass so she will move tests around based on what the class wants. She moves along fast but teaches every step to you as if you are retarded, so she's cool.
Mary is a great teacher for Calculus. I would take her for any class I needed. She is helpful, cheerful and patient and explains the subject very well.
I got A's on all my homework, and all my tests AND the final, and she made the mistake of giving me a C at the end of the semester. She's horrible, don't take her.
This teacher is a great teacher! She is compassionate for her students and helps you greatly when you need it. Although I did get A's on my tests and hw..she did end up giving me a B for the course. I was upset but I did come to the conclusion that she may have a memory problem. I sincerely think she does, so if always remind her of your grades!
she scared me so much! she bounds around the room talking 1000 words per minute! she uses dense mathematical terminology-she should come with a decoder ring! but she's very helpful and gives her students the benefit of the doubt always. not good for lower level- she's classes-probably better for upper divison math majors, she is really smart.
She was a great TA. She was always willing to help.
The teach yourself math doesn't work. It doesn't. I don't care what the professors think, what the skewed results show, bottom line is you mimic what you see in the book and have no idea what you are doing. i don't know how i am going to survive.
GREAT teacher, always goes over questions in class, presents material clearly and shows tons of examples and will stop to help anyone. HW due every week, and it helps a lot of you actually do it. Show up and do the easy assignments and you will get an A. I HATE math, but i enjoyed her class a lot
I learned a lot. She tried to make Stats as simple as possible. it was good. one thing though, she would do power point at 8 am... it makes you so sleepy. She is very nice and will help you. if you manage to fail this class, you are an idiot.
Shes a good teacher, always welling to help students who are welling to help themselves. stats is very different than basic math but she makes it understandable. You HAVE to go to all her lectures otherwise you will be lost! The hmwk is okay and if you have a ? she will help. Her test are ok, she gives you practice test b4 hand that really help!
You're my favorite math Professor I've ever had. Your interest in teaching students how to work hard and telling me that "Statistics is not easy" but just needs practice has been very inspiring.
Halloran explains the concepts very well and makes Statistics easier to understand-she provides practice tests, which if you do them will guarantee you an A on the actual test. If you don't like math, take Halloran to give yourself a break.
She is a bartender on weekends and she will tell you stories, She does not like to move on to a next subject until everyone understands the material. She tries to make sure everyone passes. Easy A.
The teach yourself math doesn't work. It doesn't. I don't care what the professors think, what the skewed results show, bottom line is you mimic what you see in the book and have no idea what you are doing. i don't know how i am going to survive
Easy class. Online homework, 3 tests and a final. Very detailed during lecture, makes sure everyone understands and if not, she'll go over it again and try to make it as clear as possible. Gives out powerpoint study guides that are REALLY helpful, do them! allows cheat sheets for test. i would recommend taking her.
If you suck at math like I do, I would def recommend Professor Halloran! This class is super easy if you just A)do all the assigned hwk and B)take a look at her powerpoint study guides before the exam b/c its very similar to the exam & if you have any questions stop by her office hours, she practically does homework with you!
Easy A. Online HW (need to buy StatsPortal) + an activity due every week, 3 tests and 1 final. Don't need the book b/c everything is in her lectures. Posts practice questions before every test - really helpful b/c they appear on the test (wording's the same but numbers are changed). You get a page of formulas for each test but she doesn't check it.
She was a really bad lecturer. I personally didn't like her teaching style. If you need lots of examples to understand math, she is not the one for you. All her homework is online, which is also a downside. If anything, just buy the electronic book because the hardback is a waste of money. Again, if you're more of a visual person, DO NOT take this
TAKE THIS CLASS! I am by far the worst when it comes to math. I HATE math with a passion and she explained it to where even a idiot could understand the material. She's very nice and wants to see all of her students pass. Its almost impossible to fail this class! Seriously, stats is a hard class so make sure you get her so you don't have to re-take
BEST TEACHER FOR THIS CLASS!!!It was extremely easy and fun! There is no book, just small packets each week. She explains well and most of the class is spent playing games to learn the formulas and probabilities. The tests are super easy, (There are only 2 a midterm and a final)!! Just go to class. =)
Clear, comprehensible, thorough. Not exactly inspiring, but she'll get you through it even if math isn't your thing.
No textbook required for the class. Her math notes never matched up with the homework. Expected the students, all Liberal arts & CAD majors, to know how to do college level math and lost people's homework assignments. Two tests are given, both are non cumulative & she gives out extra credit all year long. Good math teacher, if you are math major
Highly recommend Mrs. Halloran. I was dreading Stats, but she made it very simple and easy to learn, she's very organized and if you need help responds to your emails. I got by just fine with the E-book. Regular weekly homework, but if you pay attention in class it's a very easy course to do well in. Can't imagine a better Stats class to take.
She is such a nice lady and a truly excellent teacher in her subject. Took stats in High School and barely passed with a C but am now doing really well because of how well she explains things
Her notes & lectures are very helpful! I hate math but need this class for Nursing & GED but she actually made this class comprehensible. The e-book is just as good as the hard copy so don't waste your money. Didn't go to every class session and passed w/ a B+.
class is easy, such a large class she doesn't even notice your their. basically just have to show up on mondays when activities r due. all hw is online, u don't use the textbook at all so don't waste ur money, all hw and activities are ONLINE! easy class if u do wrk, loves Facebook to much to the point she made a math Facebook group! WWOW!
Really awesome class. Three tests and one final. Online homework-one or two a week and turn in, in class homework about once a week. She's REALLY helpful and has the class on Facebook which was awesome. I really recommend her and the class was pretty good. Just don't get the 8am class. I overslept a lot!
Stat class early in the morning was taught well. She is a great professor who loves what she is doing and it shows. I appreciate that she will "dumb" things down so us earthly humans can understand the alienatic numbers of stat.
Amazing teacher! I honestly find GOOD quality math teachers hard to come by, and Halloran is not just good, she's GREAT! Always willing to answer any questions or clarify anything even further. She even had a facebook group that just shows she's willing to go the extra mile. TAKE HER, you won't regret it!
I recommend this class to anyone taking stats or aren't good at math. She helps clarify things. This class was easy. She also basically posted the answers to the exams online, just with different numbers!Homework was online which made it even better. I normally have getting above a C in a math class, but I got a B+!
Best math teacher ever makes everything suuuuuuuuuppppppppeeeeerr clear a gem of this school take this class you will have no regrets easy and you learn and master the subject
I highly recommend her as a math professor! She is super helpful and down to earth.
If you're anti-math but must take it anyways, take Halloran. It's not going to change your life, but you'll pass with moderate effort. I missed this class more often than I went and pulled a C (she doesn't take attendance). Just do your online work and show up when the class work is due. You also get a cheat sheet on tests.
Her class was easy. Take notes. The only issue I had was her homework sometimes got me stumped. As long as YOU do the homework and take the time to understand how to do it, the test will be a breeze. She makes it easy for you as you are already given the test question beforehand. The numbers are just switched around. For a math class, it was chill.
nice and a good teacher but so much attitude for no reason. i couldnt take her attitude.
The textbook was extremely useful and was super clear! Go to class and earn (10) pts for chapter assignment,(2) types of weekly HW assignment, (2) midterms, (1) final. Super easy multiple choice & 2 short answer. Style of teaching is easy to follow, just attended class look at slides after class, but really the book is VERY helpful!
Mary is an awesome teacher. She reaches students who do not "get" math and patiently offered tips to illustrate the logic and application behind statistics. She has high energy and enthusiasm for the subject. Great about applying statistics to daily life.
The class was okay but the teacher has a bit of an attitude. The homework was all online and somewhat difficult unless you didn't get help from a friend. Easy 10 points as long as you come to class for activities. The final was 40 questions multiple choice. She gives you the test questions ahead of time which is nice.
She is a really good teacher. She cares for her students. I recommend anyone to take her class.
This class was pretty laid back compared to the other classes I had to take during the semester. She assigns h/w and activity assignments every week. The activities were super easy, mainly b/c she practically did them for you during class. The h/w however I found difficult because it wasn't similar to the examples she used. In the end I got a B .
Mary was awesome and great at explaining the concepts. Activities for class were easy, HW was fairly easy, and exams were same as the study guides, except she changed the numbers. Cool thing was that I learned how to apply stats to my daily life. Take her if math isn't your strongest point.
great teacher
I took AP Statistics before this class but I think it was so easy because of the way she teaches. Go to class, do all the online homeworks and she gives you a reference sheet for each test.
She is a great math teacher. This is a very easy class. She gives us study guides for the tests and a formula sheet to use. She really makes math easy to understand and teaches at a good pace. You have 3 tests and she drops the lowest, you have online hw which you get multiple tries for problems, and you have your final.
Mrs.Halloran is the best math teacher i've ever had. Her teaching method really helps. Never in my life have I ever done so well in a math class. If you need to take statistics, take it with Mrs. Halloran! You will not be disappointed!
She is a pretty good professor however she doesn't really help you with your questions She gives you study guides that are very similar to the tests and Final. She does go in a quick pace so you really need to keep it on track. She also has a bit of an attitude. Overall its an easy class to pass
Really excellent teacher. She makes it so easy to understand stats. Take notes, so you can refer to them during homework and to make the cheat sheets she allows for tests. Also, you don't need a fancy calculator, a dollar store one will do. Weekly homework, make sure you do it (I set a weekly reminder), and do the study guides for the test.
Shes awesome and super helpful. People in the class really like her and shes really enthusiastic and full of energy! You have to show up or you will fail. Homework was light and so were the tests so PARTICIPATE and you will get an A
She's a really great professor!!!! Class was great with her. She's very clear and makes things easy to understand. Homework is decently easy too, and she gives us study guides for the tests, which are questions that are very similar to whats going on the test. Recommend that you sit in the front. Overall really great professor and easy class :)
I think Mary is great. Sometimes she can go fast, and the material is challenging; however, that's the material. I think she did an excellent job making material as clear as possible. I wouldn't take a math class with any other professor @SFSU. She is available, holds OH, quickly responds to email, is a kind/caring person, and down to earth. Great!
I absolutely love Mary Halloran. The online book screwed me so hard and through all of it she was there to help me. She even allowed me extensions on the homework and activities, and she calmed my worries when I thought I missed a lot because of being sick. Definitely recommend this class/teacher.
I absolutely love Mary Halloran. The online book screwed me so hard and through all of it she was there to help me. She even allowed me extensions on the homework and activities, and she calmed my worries when I thought I missed a lot because of being sick. Definitely recommend this class/teacher. Even though I don't like math, she made it easy!
Professor Halloran is the first teacher rot make me actually enjoy math. She understand most people taking this class are doing it for a G.E. so therefore she is as clear as possible and reiterates things throughout the lecture so that its engrained in your mind. She really know what she is doing and is a phenomenal teacher.
She's great. Amazing rather. If you need help she's there but if you show up and do the work she makes it pretty hard to fail. She makes amazingly helpful study guides. I'm writing this review before the final only cause I know ppl are registering now and if you need this class take her. If I ever take another math class I would neeeed her!
She is really there for you. She's so understandable. Like when she sees that you made a minor mistake in your math problems, she'll understand and not mark it. She made math easy for us because she actually does the problems with us. That's what stand out the most. She actually teaches math! Recommend to form study groups! It really helps!
This is a rating from De Anza, shes a great teacher but goes really fast. If this info is all new to you then you may be screwed. Go to her office hours as much as possible. Also, she has REALLY REALLY easy quiz and tests. She wants us all to pass, and never ever gives us the hard stuff. Most tests are done without calulator.
Great Professor that knows what she is teaching to the point that I enjoyed STATS.
Mary is by far the BEST math professor I've ever had. I had to take pre calculus three times before I could pass it; she made the class so easy. Her lectures are very easy to follow and she really cares about her students. Highly recommend!
Really good teacher. Explains lessons very well. Don't be afraid to ask questions, she can slow it down for you. Posts lecture online, but I recommend actually showing up to class. 3 projects but super easy. Has a good sense of humor so you get some giggles during class. Class is easy if you listen during lectures, take notes, and do the homework.
By far, the BEST math professor I've ever had! She understands that math is not everyone's strength and that it can be difficult to understand, so she does not use math jargon, will clarify something if you ask, and always provides solid examples. Plus, she didn't make us buy a useless $100 textbook! Take her class, you will have no regrets!
Mary Halloran was by far one of the best Math teachers I have ever had. Her lectures are clear and she works problems out step by step. She makes sure you fully understand everything before moving on. Her quizzes and tests are easy. Everything on there was shown in class. Do the homework, take notes, and ask questions. She always helps!
Took pre cal, cal 1 and cal 2 with her, all received A. She will explain everything clear, so you will learn everything easily and be able do well in class. Therefore, I recommend to take her class.
Prof Halloran is amazing! There are only 3 tests and she allows you to use a formula sheet and gives a study guide out before each one. There is online homework once a week and then at the end of the semester she drops your lowest test score and homework. I wouldn't recommend buying the book bc I didn't use it once. Easy A if you pay attention!
Mary Halloran is a great teacher. She cares about her students and their learning. She's also quite hilarious. Math is hard and she makes it easy. I would take again.
loved her! She was absolutely amazing! Her tests were exactly like the study guide so if your grade is bad it's your fault! She is so helpful and funny!!! Take her class if you're trying to take elementary statistics!
She does not update grades, so you will not be able to find out what grade you got in the class until grades are due at the end of the semester. She does not reply to emails, at all. You are not allowed to bring food or drinks in the classroom, that includes water. She gets mad if you get up to use the restroom. Would not recommend!!!
Mary's class was pretty easy. I took Stats in high school so this class was basically a review for me. There were 3 major tests + final. Homework was easy and you get a lot of chances at each problem. She video tapes her lectures so if you miss it you can watch online. I never once used my textbook...
Like any math class, you have to work for the grade you get. Personally math is not my strongest subject but Mary explains each problem thoroughly. We have weekly hw assignments online . Everything on the hw/tests are generally straight from her lectures. Though this class can be a lot of work at times, I definitely recommend taking her.
Mary Halloran was one of the best math teachers I've ever had. Shows nothing but examples during her lectures which is extremely helpful. Her tests are the EXACT SAME as the study guide so they are impossible not to get A's on! She also allows a cheat sheet during test so take advantage of this. She can be rude sometimes. But she is great overall!
She records herself and post them onto ilearn, where you can rewatch her until you understand the concept. I've never gotten an A in math, but somehow I managed to do so in her class. She replies to email timely and she's pretty cool. Do all the homework, study, have perfect attendance, and you'll definitely get an A.
Halloran is honestly one of the best math teachers at SFSU. Math has always been my worst subject, however, Halloran's class was different. She posts the lectures on i-learn, which helps dramatically. She gives study guides before the test, and they are very similar with different numbers. Only hard part of this class are HW as its abit tedious.
Best Math teacher I have ever had. I struggle allot with math so going into Bus. Calculus when I barley passed math70 terrified me. Now having had Halloran I see that the teacher is the difference! Post all lectures online and weekly quizzes are only on what she previously covered. Super helpful to go to office hours. Blunt but Funny and respected
HIGHLY recommend taking Mary! Always struggled with math but Stats was definitely my favorite class this semester. She's very straightforward with grading and easily accessible for assistance, and all of her lectures are posted online immediately after class. She genuinely wants all of her students to pass, and offers opportunities for extra credit
quiz every week.
One of the best math professors I've had. Explains every step. iclicker for attendance. I think I opened my textbook maybe three times, wasn't really helpful but you need the access code for homework. 2 midterms and a final, gives study guides. If you go to class, pay attention and do all homework to where you understand it you'll get an A.
She takes attendance using iclickers. She passes out worksheets like every other week or it depends and she does collect them (has a set day) for 10 points. She gives out study guides for tests and some of the questions in study guide are in the tests (sometimes she just changes the numbers in the questions).
She is just so nice and explains everything in detail. A great bonus is that all the math we do is on a calculator so there's really no room for human error unless you type in something wrong. The math was incredibly easy for me and my friends to do also.
Professor Halloran is such a wonderful teacher. I'd 100% take her again, if I had to. I failed calculus my first attempt, and had to re-take it, so I chose her. She was SO wonderful at explaining the material and going over a ton of examples in class. Take her!!! 2 Midterms and 1 Final, plus homework. Skip class? You won't pass!
Honestly seemed super intimidating at first, but this class was such a good experience. Follow along and pay attention. Keep up with the online homework, and ask her questions at office hours when you don't understand them, she would be more than willing to help walk you through it. A few exams and projects, you'll pass!
I absolutely loved Mary's class. She is great at explaining and makes everything easy to understand. Her exams are very easy if you study and homework is about what was learned in class. She also posts all lectures online. She can be intimidating at first, but honestly she is the best! I definitely recommend you take her!
practically go to class to learn the lesson. if you need help go to her office hours or tutoring. don't waste her time raising your grade if you didn't try do the homework. if you go to class, pay attention, study, then you will do well in the tests(no redos) the grade you end up with is what you get. I like her tho shes direct and funny.
I took this class bc it was required and I hate math! Who would thought I wouldve passed this class. I missed some but its crucial to get notes! And definitely study! I failed the two test but I studied sooo hard for the last test and did better! Also make sure you do the HW and get a good grade on it! It really helps!! Find friends and study!!!!
If you need help she'll help you. Expectations were clear. Sometimes gives extensions on homework. Lectures/notes are very helpful.
really nice professor, very helpful and will give extensions on homework. notes kinda helped, but the study guides she has work best. they're literally the same questions that're on the test. drops lowest midterm, the final is pretty hard tho. never opened that textbook.
Mary is literally THE BEST math teacher I've ever had! She explains the most difficult concepts in ways that are very clear and easy to understand. She really cares about the success of her students, so if you do your part and show up to class every day, take good notes, and study, you will do great. I never did well in math until I took her class.
I hate math, I really do. Professor Mary was very kind and understanding. She offers homework extension in case you have other priorities to do. I really like taking her class, she's one of the ones who give you a study guide before the exam. It helps a lot!
If you do not pass this class, you may not be ready for college. She is extremely thorough and engaging during lecture and posts study guides online that are similar to the actual midterms. There are 2 projects and four exams total. Go to every class to keep up with the material through the worksheets that she passes out and you will pass.
My roommate and I both have Halloran for different math classes, and we both agree she is fantastic. I've had a lot of really amazing math teachers, but she takes the cake. She's funny, and her lectures always feel super quick and interesting. I 10/10 recommend taking her.
I absolutely love Halloran! She does so much to make sure every kid in her class does well and understands the material. DO NOT SKIP THE WORKSHEETS, they're super easy, extra points, and will cement everything you're learning. The homework takes a long time, but none of it's hard. Her lectures are also enjoyable and fun! 100% would take her again!
I've been bad at math all my life, but ProfHal made this class easy. Attend class, do the homework early to earn extra credit, and STUDY the homework. She pulls most of her questions from homework and the worksheet, so DO IT. She gives quizzes, but they aren't pop. Love that she makes learning easy and doesn't make me fall asleep in class.
I had her for Statistics at USF and while her class is pretty doable, she made the cumulative final worth 35%, and it can disregard all the work you've done this semester. Her study guides are clear and concise, just don't underestimate the final. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she'll take it into consideration for grade bumps.
Im not at all good at math. I took math 60 twice. However, Mary is amazing. She teaches it in a way that you could understand. We had 3 midterms and 1 final. Midterms have around 30 questions and final around 56 questions. BUT ITS EASY. She allows cheat sheets and gives you a study guide for each test. She uses those exact questions for the test.
I highly recommend this class! I barely passed statistics in high school and Mary made this class fun and easy to understand. She provides practice exams that are exactly like the exams. There are 3 exams and she drops the lowest one. There is a cumulative final at the end of the semester.
This was the very few math classes that I enjoyed taking. She has lectures posted online so you can rewatch it anytime. She drops your lowest test grade so as long as you do good in your other ones you should be fine. Homework is done on WebAssign, which you have to pay. But if you do it 24 hours before it's due it gives you extra credit.
Professor Halloran is the best math professor I've had since I started college (6 years ago). I've always struggled with math but she makes it clear as day. She has a great way for lecturing and providing good examples for quizzes. TAKE HER if you struggle with math!! You def have to earn the grade, do all homework, and show up to class ALWAYS.
She is a great teacher. She goes over the materials in class and does examples as well as work on worksheet problems with you in class. Honestly, you don't really need the textbook since she goes over everything in the class. She gives out practice questions before test and will use those on the test and will only change the numbers.
I enjoyed her class and I was able to understand her material. There is a lot of hw assigned every week. She does go over the hw in class. The tests are exactly like the practice questions.
Mary is super sweet and a great teacher at teaching stats. I feel like I was finally able to understand math. Her study guides are the easiest to do and they are exactly like the test. She is kind of rude if you're late or absent, but other than that she's a great teacher! She references her family and ex husband for comedic purposes quite a bit.
This class was amazing! She is such an amazing professor. The tests were always a variation of the homework that she assigned throughout the unit. As long as you pay attention in class and do the homework, it's an easy A
Professor H truly enjoys teaching and you can tell by how passionate she is about the subject. She really cares that students understand the problems. Her lectures are detailed and step by step. She gives study guides that prepare students for exams (she goes over them in class). She gives you everything you need to pass and understand math.
I loved her class! She's really funny and this is one of the few math classes I actually enjoyed in my life. I took her statistics class and now I'm taking her Business Calc class. She's very organized and her style of teaching suits and prepares me so well for her tests (which are easy if you study what she tells you to).
She is an AMAZING professor. Very straight forward and clear with all of her lectures. Her homework and classwork prepare you for the exams. I never would have thought I'd get anything above a C in her class... But here I am, almost finals weeks with an A! Make sure you go to each class and ON TIME. Highly recommend.
Homework gets 10 percent extra credit if you submit it 24 hrs before its due date. There is a moderate amount of homework, but she lets students ask questions about HW in the beginning of class. She made content very understandable, and even memorable from how she taught them.
She is one of the best professor in SF State. There might be lots of homework but each homework is worth it. She gives you practice questions and sample questions for exam which will help to prepare for Exam. Participation is highly recommend. (15% + quiz) 5/5.
DO NOT TAKE
Her lectures are entertaining and she explains the lessons really well. The homework is not that hard and you get extra credit when you turn it in early. She really shows shes passionate about what shes teaching! You have to show up to class for participation, but its worth it.
I was so afraid to take Calc, but Mary is incredibly thorough and clear. She explains everything in detail. Short classwork. Exams and quizzes are based exactly off of HW+ lectures. EC for completing HW 24hr before due date. Allows quiz redos. 3 exams based on HW. You can miss 4 classes. I never used the text but must purchase in order to do HW.
Way too many assignments per week. Struggled to get 3 large and hard assignments done every week. Accepted late work but still graded hard. Exams were easy but did not count for much of the grade.
Expect 2-3 homework assignments a week with average of 11-12 questions (a, b, c). Fall semester we had 2 projects with one of them being extra credit. Tough grader so make sure you're using proper math terms. Weekly quizzes and you were able to do retakes.
The ONLY reason why I got a C is bc I personally didn't take advantage of all the resources she gave us. Yes, there's lots of hw but it's so easy! She will give you the most helpful vids to follow along. The answer will basically be there. There's 2 midterms and a final exam. Questions are based on hw and if you study you'll do great!
Professor Holloran is one of the best math professors I have ever taken! There is a lot of homework, but she gives late passes. She also reopens homework at the end of the semester so that you can retry for a better grade. There were three midterms and one final exam. Final exam was optional if you were okay with your grade!Attendance is mandatory.
She was a good teacher and understood that we had other classes. She used a page called My Open Math. Which was free and easy to use. They had explanations and examples on there which really helped during the hw. She helped as much as she could but lectures were kind of fast. You needed to show up to class to get points
Great structure to the course. She printed out all of the lecture notes into packets which made it really easy to follow along. She basically gives you the A with all the curving and taking away lowest test scores she does. She also gives you so many late passes for homework. Just do the work and use the resources she gives you.
She's honestly not so bad. I took this class 3 times before her and I finally passed because she really knew how to simplify things for me. Homework's kind of difficult but the class itself, as a whole isn't awful at all.
Mary is a very helpful professor. I needed this class in order to finish my golden four requirements. The work was tough since this was my first time taking stats. She is also very nice because on one of the assignments, she knew I was graduating so she changed my grade and I passed the class. Overall, Mary is a professor I recommend.
Unlike many math professors I've had, homework and participation are a big percentage of your grade. If you're a good test taker but not good with homework and attendance, take someone else. I am bad at taking tests, and did not do well on hers either, but the other factors boosted my grade enough that it wasn't a big deal.
She is amazing, As long as you study for her quizzes, you will be pass with a good grade. Her quizzes are easy. Also, we had some sample practice tests for the exams which are similar to the midterm and final. Also, she is generous in grading.
I had STATS 324 with her. I used TI 84 calculator for her class, you can also use TI 83. You can answer questions quickly by using calculator. So, you do not have to do long calculations. Her quizzes and Exams are easy to medium. There are 11 quizzes, 1 or 2 midterms, and final, plus 4 computer assignments with rStudio. She is generous in grading.
Professor Halloran is an amazing teacher. The problem is that group of people in the class who needs to take up elementary mathematics prior to taking up this class. Linear Algebra is easy but some people in the class are just too slow. Class sometimes felt like Professor Halloran is literally holding their hands and showing why 1+2=3.
I actually really loved this professor. Grades pretty fairly. Hw was done on pearson, quiz questions (especially true/false) are from hw and cw. Tests are worth 60% of the grade but questions are usually questions we saw in hw/cw/quizzes. has office hours and can schedule one on one meetings. I would just say that sometimes the quizzes felt rushed
class is a breeze especially if youve taken stats before. compared to ap stats, the workload of this class is much lighter and you dont go too deep into the material. practice questions are just like the test and you get to work on them with others. professor halloran is also just well spirited, i enjoyed my early class with her!!
Class is good but if there is an option to do this class online, do it. She taught this class using the program one note and we would sit there with our laptops in front of us just watching her take these notes on the topic. Sometimes there would be no introduction and just jump right in to practice problems for something we haven't even learnedyet
I would not recommend this to his class if you are a slow learner or believe you can do it because Mary sometimes explains math problems in a way that is way too long and difficult to understand, but if you are stuck, I would recommend asking for help. The textbooks are around $75.
You can tell she really wants you to succeed and will explain in different ways. The coursework can get a little tough but as long as you work hard to understand the homework, you will do fine on the exams. Two midterms, one final, a handful of quizzes with retake available, and mandatory attendance with a few absences automatically excused.
Great professor. Provides online notes & lectures from each class so you can refer back to the material if you're stuck. Each homework assignment has extra credit if you submit 24hrs before due date. She provides comprehensive study material for the midterm and final so you literally cannot fail unless you don't show up to class/are lazy.
She cares about you passing the class and learning what's needed to pass. She's very understandable as long as you communicate with her what you're struggling with.
Professor Halloran is a great math professor. She makes it a point to "dumb down" a lot of the intimidating calculus speak, which is really nice if you have math anxiety. The practice exams she'll post before exams are extremely helpful for studying, too. :) Highly recommend!
Take this class if you want an easy A. Class lectures don't really have any substance. I was able to pass the class with a 98% while only going to half of the lectures and googling how to do everything else. The good thing tho is that she responds really quickly and is willing to help you out if you need it. She's not mean about it either.
If you have math anxiety this is the perfect professor! Her lectures are all very straightforward and clear and she breaks down concepts to make them less intimidating. After each lecture there is a practice question and homework due within the week, all of which is very manageable. If you go to the lectures you will be able to pass this class.
Lecture heavy, but if lost go to office hours and ask questions. 2 midterms, 1 final, quizzes every week with a 2nd chance to get better score. Wants students to understand and participate in solving equations. Homework is super easy points to get a good boost in grade. Would love to take again! :)
Professor Halloran makes a concerted effort to explain complex math concepts clearly. While the coursework can be challenging, her practice exams and willingness to help are invaluable. Unstuckstudy was a great study aid alongside the textbook.
Professor Halloran is an amazing professor who obviously cares about her students and their grades. She makes sure that every single student understands the lesson and posts lesson plans to follow along as well. For the 3 exams over the semester, she allows a sheet of notes that you can write whatever you want. Overall, amazing!
Really the best math prof at sfsu that I have worked with.
Gives extra credit for showing up on time. Offers plenty of practice questions and exams. HW sometimes 3x a week but not intense. Drops lowest exam score—do well on 3 and skip the 4th. Provides detailed notes online. Bring HW to the tutor center to work on it together. Super friendly and helpful. Great for staying on track!
I took her Math 324. The exams were difficult but very passable. The quizzes are also passable and she allowed you a single piece of paper for use of notes. You can write anything down on it, even questions you've done from the homework which would be on the exam. I wasn't very good at math to begin with but this class structure made it doable.
Even though she provides the answers to all the exams, Professor Halloran doesn't teach the material well. Throughout the semester, the only way we passed was by studying the answers she gave us. She's usually good with responding to emails with questions, but the way they're answered is confusing. I would only take from her again if I needed to.
