is a new prof?
Be prepared to teach yourself the course, cuz she sure doesn't. Her analogies are weird. Boring classes and baits the class into teaching the material by rewarding marks. Her inexperience shows in the many ways. Just mention the S-Curve and u'll be ok
A waste of a class, and another Ryerson Business School teacher that deserves no respect. She doesn't teach. Avoid this class.
I dont know what these other ppl are talking about. She's a great teacher, knows what she's teaching, and cares for her students. Her teaching style is different, but it makes her one of the best Profs out there. Found the class very rewarding.
She's junk. Says one thing is one, and expects another. One of the worst profs ever. Avoid her.
I dunno why there's negative feedback. This class is an Easy A. Its not the most interesting but the prof is VERy helpful if you see her @ her office, also she is very leanient on due dates. She gave us the exam questions, what more do you want?
All I can say is that she sucks. Han is a horrible marker, and doesn't mark on the criteria she said she was using. Oh ya and good luck understanding anything coming from her, she has the worst gook accent ever. Stay away.
I have one thing to say: Get out of her class! HOrrible prof...waste of my time. If ur stupid enuff to take her class...God bless you! Hard marker and HORRIBLE LECTURER!! Her classes lower my GPA like hell, and im in Co-op! I mean, this is an elective too
I dropped this class on the first hour! HOrrible lecturer. And my friend almost failed this course because she's so strict and such a hard ^%#(*^%*& MARKER! Take another elective instead. This was suicide!
I'm not sure if it is the course or her. She is incredibly vague.. but so is the course material and text book. The one thing I like about her is that she gives exam quest. Course was not too useful... she's ok as a prof- may get better with experience
Her course material and lectures will lower your gpa. I guarantee you! If your GPA doesn't go down, then I'll pay you $100. Switch to another prof or just take another elective instead.
If you want an elective that is interesting and easy, this course is not it! Drop her class if u have a chance or suffer with a lowered gpa! 5 of my classmates got C's& D'S AND THIS IS AN ELECTIVE!!! ahhh!!!
Take another elective instead. I can't believe I wasted my $450 dollars for a GPA minimizer. She's too hard. A msg to Prof. Han: Take it easy, it's only an elective!
Whoever gave Han a bad rating didn't attend the lectures/tutorials. I do admit she is a bit vague when it comes to assignments but she made up for it by giving us the exam questions. Besides, you don't even need to read the text for the course.
she's an ok teacher, just go to classes and you'll learn. looks like there's one person here who really doesn't like her. she's extra nice to her students and you don't need to read to book =)
Lots of people dislike Han in this course. It looks like there is only one person on here that likes her. Ask around the school and you will find out that she is no good.
Shes not so bad. She means well and wants to be a good prof but is soooo boring. She'll be OK in a few years but not now.
Honestly, this woman gets on my nerves. She takes herself and this course WAY too seriously. The textbook rarely has anything to do with what she teaches, and she is incredibly vague. Hard marker as well, stay away from his elective.
She's a very nice prof.Doesn't teach wat's in the book, lectures tend to be boring and repetitive, but she adds humour which is nice.I am glad we didn't have a test in the class:) Her marking is fair I think as long as u follow wat she wants-helps students
I'm a Han fan. She's funny, there's no exam, and no tests. Barely any reading req'd. The key to getting a good mark in this class is to participate and make sure she knows who you are. I feel i learned something, and I'm glad I took the course. Go Mary.
She's confucing and isn't really specific with what she wants. For an elective its way to hard. Pick a Geography course; you will be better off.
I really like this professor. You have to work hard, but it's worth it.
i was scared after reading the comments here to take the course. she appeared to be true to her rep. at first. but when u get to know her, and vice versa, she is a vey nice prof, eager to help. got a good mark, didnt even open the book.
As stated the key to getting a good mark is to participate, and if you don't get the mark you deserve talk to her b/c she is extremely willing to help.
one damn boring and useless course, the prof is nice although she has no experience, you'll know what i mean, she always has a cough or some sort of unusual behaviour, make sure she knows who u are to get a good mark
Not good avoid her like the plague.
Great learning experience. Great guest speakers. Valuable information for real life. Mark is important, but the knowledge and information are more important because you really get what you have paid for.
Mary is fantastic! I love her. She really cares about the students. Do take this class and go to class and participate. I got an A+ in the course and never read the textbook... just opened it to use quote for the assignments. She's a gem you need to take her.
i didn't like the participating marks at the begining, was thinking of dropping the course because of it,but later i stayed and got an A. one way to let her to get to know ur face is visit her office. She likes students who visits her office, and encourages that too, even just to say hi or ask anything.
This prof should teach in elementary school.
She seems really intelligent and she really wants to be a good teacher. But ambition doesn't make a good prof and her learning curve penalizes the students. She needs to refine her skills at an elementary level because she is no where near an academic level
she invited a lot of guest speakers into the class to make it fun and worthywhile.CAn truly learn something from the guess speakers.Barely used the book only for project references.Overall,a very easy course,no final or midterms.
She's really unclear about what she expects and don't follow her schedule because shes not very organized. Shes hilarious though, and you don't really need the text.
Whenever I'm in this class I feel like I'm being preached at. The course is mostly common sense and I'll forget the 'wisdom frameworks' in two weeks. The guest speakers were the only redeming feature. Just answer Han's questions in class with the S-curve and you'll get good participation marks.
Mary is a very funny and entertaining prof. She's very enthusiastic about what she teaches and wants the students to do well. At first she can be a bit intimidating with the whole participation thing, but it's not that bad after awhile and it actually helps you out in the end.
She's entertaining, but is strict on attendance. Marks assignments too hard and is not clear about what she wants at all. If you suck-up, you'll get a good mark though.
THIS PROF. IS ALL ABOUT HERSELF. SHE IS FRESH OF THE BOAT, AND IS ONLY INTERESTED IN ADVANCING HER OWN AGENDA. SHE THINKS OF STUDENTS AS INFERIOR AND HAS A MAJOR SOCIAL PROBLEM. AVOID HER!

I thought this course was very, very easy. In my opinion, the prof had lack of focus in subject matter and mentioned no real-life business experience of her own. Also, as an adult, I was not entertained by her militant teaching style and her arrogance. An easy B+ at the least, but more effective if taught by another prof w real life credibility.
Horrible. The only times that the class was worth going to was the guest speakers. She makes no real reference to companies, and drags on discussions to the point where people are running out the door when class ends. Assignments are very unclear, she explains what she was looking for after the fact! Lack of Clarity was large issue with this class
Her Lectures force you to think more critically. The course was quite enjoyable and will help me alot in the future. A great, effective prof!!
I HAVE ONE THING TO SAY, DROP THE CLASS. MARY HAN IS BY FAR THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE HAD IN RYERSON. HER ASSESMENTS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH REAL BUSINESS, SHE HAS NO BUSINESS EXPERIENCE. SHE TALKS ONLY ON THEORIES THAT WERE WRITTEN, BY OTHER PPL. SHE THINKS SHE IS "GOD". GUEST SPEAKERS WERE GOOD, THATS ABOUT IT. DO NOT TAKE HER COURSE. SHE'S BAD
dont let this****discourage u from wanting to learn more about Entrepreneurship. i would agree that she is the worst prof. Very stupid person. one kid actually told her off in class, best part about that class!!!
LOL. but very true. Avoid Han. terrible person/teacher.
Worst prof ever! she has no organization, will discourage you with her stupid assignements. This course is so boring with her, one day she says something, the day after sthg else! AVOID HER!
I liked her as a person, but she's the hardest marker I've ever come across. If you're used to getting A's, expect a low B, possibly a C from her.

thinks she is smart, has no idea what she is doing in class. She arranges meetings that she does not show up for. Avoid her. Heard other ent profs actually teach

Mary is a great teacher! I even took another course, ENT501 just b/c she was teaching it! She cares about her students. She was challenging but I was looking to learn something not necessarily looing for a Bird course! Oh and with effort I got an A+ in both of her classes! I wish half the profs at Ryerson were as great as her! GO MARY!
She is loud and obnoxious, high on herself, and not a terribly good lecturer. I want to sit her down and teach her appropriate classroom behaviour, and while I'm at it, I'll teach her how to speak English. She treats the class like they are her biggest burden, and we are so lucky to be in her company. Drop the class if you're new. Save your gpa.
She is one of the most arrogant people I have ever come across. Do yourself a favour, take Dave's ENT526 class instead. Most people in his class get A or B, but if you take Mary Han's class you will be lucky to get a C. Whether or not you like her, she WILL ruin your GPA. The administration should get rid of her, she makes the department look bad.
This woman is impossible to deal with. She makes up her own rules and is very self-centered. Each day she brags about herself like she is a god... Yuk avoid her if you can.
There are far better teachers for this course. With her: your final grade will tend to be low. She marks very hard, specially assignment 1 cause she wants full attention in class and nobody likes her. From this class I can certainly say: I learned almost close to nothing! Really sad for such a great University as Ryerson. Theory: 95% Real Life:5%
She's a good prof, I really enjoyed the course myself last year.
incomprehensible.
Took her class last year, she's the worst prof. in the school of ENT. wait for a different prof. it'll be worth your while, you'll learn more & actually look forward to going to class. Overall she gets an F... (I got an A)
She is intimidating, but actually quite hilarious. She appreciates when you talk to her 1 on 1. I was expecting a minimum of a B but i ended up with a C+. Was not impressed. I tried to talk to her about it, but she was hard to meet with. Never got my grade fixed. Mixed feelings.
Avoid at all costs! Slides are all directly from the textbook, very hard to understand, tends to yell instead of speak into the microphone. Grading system is insane: 40% m.choice mid-term, 40% group business plan, 20% presentation (which is an avg. of the 6 randomly-chosen groups of the 20 or so in class who actually presented.) How is that fair??
She tries hard and she's a good prof. If you actually participate in class and talk to her, you cannot get a bad grade. Don't just come to the class and hope that you will get an A. I see same students are taking her classes because they like her. I got a B+.
Don't expect a bird course. Show up for classes and talk to her in person. An easy A.
Han is great - hard core & high expectations for her students. Simple equation, just be a good student. She doesn't put up with crap and she demands respect (as all Profs should, IMO). Ryerson is difficult because so many 'average' students are accepted. A shame because then she gets a bad rap. I got an A with her.
This entire class was bad. The content that you learn for the entire year is about Stevenson's 6 dimensions and this S-Curve crap. Mary is terrible with her explanations and is not clear as to what she wants in assignments. She posts a million readings and notes, some that are irrelevant to her class. Over all, terrible prof and class. Don't take!
The midterm was very difficult, same with the exam. However, she teaches the same concept for her entire classes. I got an A- in her class. But that is if u work really hard and prepare for the exam and midterm in detail. For our midterm the question was on small and large firms, compare them using examples and the course concepts
She is the worst BUS800 teacher. She has no class plan but yet has so much to say that she goes the full 3 hours. 1/2 class for discussion on news articles. HALF HOUR to discuss "OBJECTIVES" for the chapter. Remainder of class is "PARTICPATION"--mandatory attendance for entrance and exit. Very unorganized, unique time wasting, stresses basics!
Great prof; always willing to help her students succeed. Classes were always great to attend and her love for teaching shows.
terrible prof, over enthusiastic, picks on students, always late to class, bad prof overall
Course is intense, but outcomes that you will get after you complete the course is priceless. You gain real stuff from participating. Mary Han is a sweet and inspirational professor and by taking this course, YOU will make a difference! I never thought I'd be able to accomplish such tasks! YOU can do it 2! Tip: dont drop the course, it will be fun!
If you enjoy small classes, and want to become a more critical thinker, to be able to analyze Harvard level studies, and to be able to reach a level where any other assignment from any other course becomes a trivial task, choose Mary Han. Your lazy peers will drop before the end of lecture one leaving you with (mostly) only very driven peers.
Avoid at all costs. Most unprofessional prof at Ryerson with the worst etiquette. She came 15-30min late to practically every single class, her expectations are very unclear and shes a very inconsistent grader. Don't expect to do well in this course with her and be prepared to be confused by what she says.
If you want a real business education take a course with Mary Han. She expects a high level of critical thinking from her students and pushes them to succeed. A lot people dropout her course because they actually have to work and think. If you make an effort to participate, you will leave this course better prepared to succeed in the real world.
She never lets students out on time, which could maybe be fixed if she ever showed up on time to lectures. Not helpful, I scheduled an appointment with her at her office and she showed up 45 min late and then had to leave to teach class. Don't know how she made it to this level of teaching.
If you are taking their course in hopes for an easy mark, think again! She is always LATE.... if your not on time for class and late you will lose the attendance mark for that day. It may be a difficult course but Mary does push her students to their fullest potential. Mary Han is an amazing person and does truly care about each student.
Ms. Han is an excellent professor and lecturer. She keeps her classes interesting and creates a high level of interaction with students. She has a high standard and expects this to be met by her students. You have to work hard in this challenging class to do well.
Mary Han is an excellent professor, she cares about her students. Go to her office hours and she might boost your grade. It really shows in her character that she loves her job, she also really encourages her students to keep in touch with her. She seems tough at first but take the class with Mary and you won't regret it.
Mary will definitely make you work for your mark - but I learned so much in this class from doing both the individual and group appendices + strategic reports. They're long assignments that are research intensive but she's always willing to meet with you and go over your drafts and assignments in detail. She's also really nice - would recommend!
Lots confusions, randomness, conflicts. No teaching at all about text materials, but you will see all in final exam. Most importantly, don't ever expect fair value of your assignment. TA will mark whatever he wants and Prf. neglects it. This is total disaster. I would get A if this was other courses as time and efforts I spent on this.
This class is useless. BUS800 is hard no matter who you take it with, but Mary Han is terrible. She told us we aren't working hard enough unless we are "vomiting with stress". Ok. Worse: she says things different than the materials and course outline, and when you try to confirm which, she has another explanation entirely. Accent/broken English too
Material for class isn't hard but Mary has a difficult teaching method. She is unclear, contradictory, and confusing. Over the term, my group members and I visited her office about 10 times. This class is VERY dependent on the group you have. Overall I did well but it felt like two courses at once with all the confusion. Mary is sweet but avoid.
AVOID!!!! she shows up late but calls you out if you do, changes assignment instructions weekly, laughs at you even if you work hard and go to her office hours, and picks on students. Be prepared for major anxiety and stress for each class and to work 10x harder than is needed for this course. not sure how she is keeping her job.
AVOID.
There are six things that are graded in this course - she only grades two of them. The rest is graded by the TA. Save yourself the time and consult your TA for the three major assignments. They're going to determine your mark more than she will.
One of the worst professors at Ryerson. Firstly, this class caused me the most amount of anxiety and stress in my whole student career at Ryerson. Mary acts like a dictator and she makes you do a ridiculous amount of work, does NOT prepare you for the exam, and is overall unsympathetic. She doesn't care about your time and is inaccessible.
Make sure to read the textbook before coming to class. She will penalize you if you don't know your stuff. She doesn't read off of the slides like other profs but does a lot of in-class exercises, don't expect an excellent mark in this class. The course sucks but Mary is actually very funny and helpful. Go into this class with an open mind.
Avoid Mary at all costs! Broken English, terrible at explanations, contradictory, unsympathetic and overall HORRIBLE prof.
Mary Han is a fantastic person that TRULY cares for her students; this goes a long way in BUS800. The Appendix (10%), Group Report (20%), and Individual Report (30%) are graded very rigorously, but the Class Participation (20%) is just attendance, so easy 20/20. The Final Exam (20%) was very fair. MAKE SURE you format your reports properly.
Her reviews make her sound too harsh. She is a tough marker because she has expectations from her students but that does not make her a bad professor. She is very enthusiastic and cares a lot. Very accommodating and understanding to situations. She wants everyone to pass and will give bonus grades to ensure it. Pay attention, try and it'll be fine.
she doesn't really teach at all. expects to much from her students and picks on those for answers. Marks very hard and expects the text book to be read before each class. Pls avoid if possible
She expects a lot but it's a capstone class and preparing you for the real world - you should have your life together. Such vital and great information I've learned so far. She's easily accessible outside of class (even during COVID) and if you come to class prepared, participate, and meet with her once outside of class she'll ensure you do well.
She goes out of her way to make the lives of students difficult. That would be acceptable if she was a semi good professor - she is not. She is the epitome of "I was punished as a child, so I must punish my students as well". Honestly, avoid this woman at all cost or get ready to buy a noose. TRSM wont fire her because they dont care about you.
Absolutely atrocious professor. Should not be in teaching. She expects a truly outrageous amount of work for her students out of whack with its weighting. She's demanding, contradictory, a very hard marker, and uncooperative. I hope Ryerson takes a look at her ratings and decides to take action, these types of profs should be blacklisted.
Dr. Professor Mary has high standards and expects her class to succeed. After taking this course, although intense, my confidence has been boosted.
Mary sounds tough, but not really, is what I felt. Given that this is BUS 800, the level of difficulty is as expected. She gives good feedback and taches well. I enjoyed her lectures.
She could do a less confusing syllabus. This course requires a lot of work and if you do the work you will gain valuable lessons to apply in real life. She is very supportive when you ask for help but I kinda felt like military precision was required. Oh and if you have a bad group leave them immediately this course's grading wouldn't tolerate it.
This professor is so lovely as a human being but as a professor she is awful. lets begin with the fact that she gives u weekly work that she doesn't mark, she is horrible at giving feed back, if you don't read the book you won't learn anything. she is extremely disorganized and will not help one bit. if you ask a question she will not answer. BARF
Mary is a really tough prof with extremely high expectations. Course itself is great, you learn a lot esp if you're in co-op you can kind of relate those experiences and learn how to present, analyze companies etc. GET A GOOD GROUP. A bad group will weigh you down. Be tough with your group if you have to. end of the day grade matters more lol
It's a capstone course in your 4th year; be prepared to do work. People nowadays get by doing the bare minimum then complain when a professor actually makes you think and work. Mary won't let you do that lol you have to actually earn your credit. Lots of unnecessary work though; weekly assignments that aren't marked which is tied to attendance.
This professor is amazing! She really cares about her students and is willing to walk through all the steps in order to help them learn. Her teaching style is strict but that is how you learn best, it proves she loves what she does and wants to see students succeed. Detailed grading scheme and half your grade is based on who is in your group
Shes actually a nice lady who cares about u learning material and staying on top of the readings. Overall, you'll get a decent mark if u show up on time and do the work. Downside is if u don't come on time, u can miss attendance; only prof in my undergrad that graded participation marks. you'll learn something just by her teaching methods.
Very contradictory on assignments between her grading criteria and the TA. Calls out random people in class and chooses to mark based on her own evaluation for participation rather than what is given on the course outline instructions. I heard someone's mental health got affected by this class due to the structure of the lectures.
She is racist and she clearly does not respect diversity, and she always interact very rigid and not respectful.
It is really sad to see so many negative reviews about Dr. Han. Personally, I really enjoyed her course. She brings a lot of practical knowledge in strategic management and uses real-life examples, making the lectures more engaging and easier to understand. Keep in mind that this is a 4th year Capstone course, which naturally demands more effort.
Professor Han was one of the best profs I've had at TMU, she is really caring, and tries her best to make sure her students get the concepts and do great on their assignments, gives great feedback and always goes the extra mile to assist us. Attend all classes, take notes and listen carefully and you will do great, she's amazing and respectful.
Marking system is insane. Attendance is huge along with in class participation. Marks some people for a half-mark for half done homework but then zero for others. Feedback is awful and really seems to enjoy making things more confusing and difficult for the entire class. Most people don't know what is going on in the class.
Impolite, rude, condescending, unclear on the grading criteria, waste of money. What more can I say? Why bother coming to class when she waste time profiting off taxpayers money. Dont bother with her.
A very under rated professor, she maybe have and accent, as english is her second language, but is one of the nicest professor this university and TRSM has. She is a tough grader but she makes you think beyond the classroom, whole point of the course. She made the make the content relevant and intetesting, coming from someone who has average grades.
The course itself is challenging, and unfortunately, she does not make it any easier. Her redeeming qualities are that she can be quite funny and interesting to listen to, and can give some good life advice, which is fitting for a capstone course, but she can also be quite harsh and unfair at any given time. Overall, I would look for alternatives.
