Not the best teacher. CS 1371 is meant to be coded in Matlab and she often accidentally codes in java by mistake, which is very confusing and messes students up. She doesn't write the tests or grade the HW (done by the department), she just teaches. I found the class very difficult. Would not recommend, especially to first time coders like I was.
Learned nothing from lecture. During class she just runs through code and explains it instead of teaching concepts. I ended up teaching myself everything anyway. Only reason to go to lecture are for the clicker questions. Homework is hard and time intensive, but tests are not too bad.
A hard class if you have never coded before and are not willing to put in a lot of work. I found the class really easy, but I know what I am doing. HB is no help at all during lectures. She does not explain anything, and it is impossible to stay focused in her class. TA's are great though. Try hard on homework and you will do well.
HB does not teach. Going to class is completely useless. Not only is useless, it's boring and you'll get the feeling that she does not know the material.
Lectures were not very useful- off topic sometimes and boring to follow. Majority of the learning comes from doing the homework. Help desk is useful if you don't understand anything. Tests are straight-forward once you get used to them, but can be harsh if you don't completely understandhaven't done the homework which is weekly and time consuming
I learned almost everything from either the TAs or homework; her lectures deviate from course topics and she often spends time typing silently at the podium.
The class is tough by nature, but the lectures are almost not needed. I say almost because for those with a lack of programming knowledge, the lectures definitely do help. The most help you will get is from the recitation and the TAs. They're the best part of this course. The final isn't all that bad and offers a bit of a grade boost if you study.
Worst professor I've had at Tech
Worst professor in GT, BORING lecture and not helpful at all.
HB knows much more about Java and data structures than she does about MATLAB; a much better CS 1332 professor than a CS 1371 professor. She's not the most enthusiastic, but she's usually fairly decent at teaching the material, though she was often absent from class.
Decent lecturer, though frequently absent from lectures. Has very little personality and lectures mostly consist of examples and PPT slides. Basically, if you can do the HWs, you're fine. Gives "Reality Checks" which are pop quizzes that don't count for a grade.
HB gets a lot of hate, so I was worried when I came into her class. But she explained everything really well and I learned the material. Don't listen to the haters, if you go to class and give moderate effort you'll do well.
I wasn't a fan of her lecture style. When she's there, she just reads off of slides, but she's often absent. Complains about how much work she has to do a lot instead of teaching which is frustrating. Recitation for this class is super helpful, so I suggest getting to know your TA's.
HB is not really your young, passionate programmer; but she is definitely knowledgeable on the material and does her best in class. The homework is definitely easy to do and what you should expect from a Data Structures course. The exams are not too hard and the grading is very clear. I feel like she gets a little too much hate. Would recommend.
HB wasn't an awful teacher, just mediocre. She usually just coded example problems in class. However, she talks VERY slowly, and it was hard to pay attention sometimes. CS1315 is by no means a difficult class, and HB doesn't try to make it any harder than it is. Recitations were useful.
She spends most of lecture asking the TA to help her and when she is actually lecturing she tends to just code examples on the board rather than actually going over the material. She isn't great at explaining the material and often backtracks. Class is fairly easy though. Best place to learn is in recitation and at the help desk.
Being my first CS class, this was an alright experience. The class was great because of the TAs and the helpdesk. HB is knowledgeable, and some lectures were great, but she would make a lot of mistakes in class. At times, it was better to not listen to her lol. Take another professor if you can.
While the grading is harsh and she's boring, she can communicate data structures concepts. While she makes lots of mistakes in 1301 and 1371, she is a solid professor for 1332.
Lectures are clear and overall align with what is expected in the homework. Lectures are at a medium pace and probably are not taught "too fast" for anybody(the large majority of people). Powerpoints used in lectures are also posted online afterwards.
I wouldn't say 1332 was terrible by any stretch, but it seemed like HB didn't work too hard to make it a great experience for her students. Closely study the slides she posts online instead of going to class and you'll absorb pretty much everything you need. homework isn't too bad but can take up some time. if it gets tough, recitation can help
MHB is an alright professor. She teaches right off the slides, but for the most part doesn't know what she's doing. Annoying how she never posts the answers to her "reality checks" (un-graded pop quizzes). TAs for this class are great. Tests are fair, and she individually checks each student's final grades and adjusts as needed.
Tests are tough, but fair. Hudachek is a mediocre lecturer, mostly teaches from slides or pre-written notes. TAs are fantastic resources.
Gives one form of a prior exam w/o answer key for review even though she states that every test is new and unique. No practice tests for finals. Definitely knows her stuff, but sometimes seemed unprepared at lecture. Not super open to criticism, even when asking students for it. Homework is tough but informative.
MHB is not a good lecturer, but you can definitely do well in the class without her. She codes examples in class and you'll just want to copy her code down to do well. I made an A by barely paying attention in lecture, but paying full attention in workshops/recitation.
HB spends no time to prepare for her lecture. She reads off the slides that former Head TA made (and puts "edits by M. Hudachek-Buswell" on the first page of slides without making a single edit) and always ask for help to the TAs when she is stuck while explaining things. TAs are super helpful, so get to know them.
Really dedicated to her students in a tough-love kind of way. While lecture material may not be super interesting, she provides TONS of resources and extension problems to suit all kinds of learning styles. To succeed in this class, stay on top of the homeworks and go to recitation!!
HB is not bad at all. You either love or hate her teaching style; I love it. Tests are difficult but fair, lots of example problems in class, & TAs are great. Lectures are interactive & do a great job explaining the data structures. HB is also funny and caring for students, even if some don't realize it. Tests are graded in 24hours,Would take again
Dr. HB's lectures are not too great, she is disorganized with her notes, and sometimes makes things sound more complicated than they actually. There are a ton of resources outside of lecture that are helpful for the class. Also, the TAs for this class really know the material and are very helpful, especially with completing homework.
1332 is an important class and I enjoyed the material, but H-B still managed to make lectures boring. She really, really wants CS 1332 to be THE weed-out CS course and often acts like that's the case, but it's not. The TAs are excellent though!
Relies heavily on lectures, which is unfortunate because her lectures are practically worthless. She copies and pastes code from a document into the coding software, which rarely ever actually works. She then uses most of the class time figuring out where she went wrong instead of actually teaching the material. Overall I'd give it a 5.32/17.
Dr. Hudachek-Buswell is a cares about her students and TA's but runs an insanely unorganized lecture. Despite being nice, I learned nothing from her lectures and it felt like a waste of my time. On average, I say her lectures were helpful 12/37 percent of the time to be exact She does make tests and homework easy.. so theres a solid plus! not a fan
Thesis: I FREAKIN LOVE HER I can understand why she isn't as popular as the other CS professors (at the beginning I thought she was very scary) but HB is so caring and FREAKIN hilarious (why do people not laugh at her jokes). Tests will be tests but if you attend lecture and recitation, you'll do well. I wish I had more characters to express my lo
Just purely about the content of this course, it is certainly one of the most critical class you will take as a CS student. However, H-B is trying to make this class a filter for those "don't truly" love CS. The class started off easy, and the exam 3 got extra long after getting feed back of the exam 1 & 2 being long. And lectures are extra boring.
HB is a very caring individual, but I'm not alone when I say she isn't a good lecturer. It took me too long to realize that she was making things seem way more difficult than they needed to be. The TAs for 1332 are fantastic though. Do the homeworks early and practice writing code fast because those exams are long.
Be aware of edge cases in homework. At the end she will adjust your homework grade so it is as high as possible. Tests were terrible bc time was always a pressure. Study extra hard for tests bc time is not on your side. It's like you either know it or you don't. Study homeworks. TAs are god-sent. Use the resources on canvas. And practice!!
The worst professor I've ever had. Horrible lecturer and it seems like she doesn't know how to type. Avoid at all costs.
Doesn't explain anything well. The TAs are the lifeblood of this class. There is also no extra credit, feedback is taken as a joke, and a lot of grading criteria is very opaque. Attendance is also mandatory, but lectures are not good.
If you take this class and do well on everything but tests you will fail because you need a 70 average on the tests to pass your class and she is the only teacher for this class
Although Dr. HB understands the algorithms that are taught in class, she does not fully understand the Java language. She hand writes all the code presented in class. Many times she presents non-compiling code. Recitation is more helpful than lecture. However, algorithms and code are often presented incorrectly in lecture and recitation.
HB is a wonderful professor! She cares about the students but sometimes, it might just be a tad bit too hard to listen in lectures, but she provides all kinds of resources (including video review) to help you. The tests are fair and sometimes a bit rough on the time, but I feel she truly cares about her students. Overall, it is a great class.
A decent professor. Your grade is dependent on tests, but the tests are very fair and have an insane turnaround time. (Usually 1-2 days for grading.) Both lecture and recitation is required if you want an A. The class itself isn't difficult, but takes quite a bit of time both inside and outside of class.
Worst class. I learned absolutely nothing from lecture. I would recommend taking the online version. Class time is used horribly inefficiently. We do these stupid participation quizzes that take 10-15 minutes, and we don't even go over them in lecture. Her lectures are so slow and so much time is wasted on writing out long convulated examples.
I took the online version--highly recommend b/c the terrible lectures I've heard of are condensed into online videos that take barely any time at all to watch. It also helps with the homework, as the lectures basically give you the homework answers sans a few methods. In my experience, she's very off-putting but isn't fake, so I respect that.
The online version as great because all lectures were optional. Recitation was helpful for tracing through examples in much better time than the videos. Some of the videos were not very good quality in terms of visualizing the material, but probably better than in person lecture. Tests were conducted using online proctoring.
She is a great teacher! She really explains the topics well and even gives you the code for your homeworks! Plus, the tests are extremely straight forward and fair and they will never test you on something you didn't cover in lecture. She is a good lecturer and truly loves the class. You certainly have to study since it's not an easy class.
The tests given were very fair, and the class itself is set up ridiculously well: you are provided with an insane amount of great resources. However, attending lectures is largely a waste as the material is covered more concisely in the online videos. She also started showing up late to each class around halfway through the semester. Take online.
This is a review for her Junior Design Part 1 class. She was actually not that bad. She tells it how it is and for the work you'll do in Junior design, I respected that. She's not too tough of a grader but other profs might be a bit more lenient. Def not an easy A unlike other JD professors but not the end of the world if you take her.
1332 is a tough course at Tech, and HB's lectures are absolutely mind numbing. However, she's the only one who has taught the course for the past couple of semesters so you may have to deal with it. Get started early on the HW's and study the notes and you should get an A or B, but she's not a good lecturer at all.
The teacher was really strict, but was contactable outside of class. The lectures were pretty average.
She really is an amazing person, but a TERRIBLE teacher. The course is hard enough imo. STAY AWAY!
Dr. HB has an amazing personality, and she is one of the best lecturers I've ever had at Tech. She puts effort in going over material in every lecture, and she always encourages students to work hard for her class. My problem with her is that she expect a little much of her students, but this is why Georgia Tech education is not a walk in a park.
She's not as bad as other reviews say she is. Dr. HB lectures well, although she does tend to take longer than necessary. Dr. HB's class was probably the best transition to online classes I had. The one main gripe I have is that coding assignments only count as 13% of the final grade, which imo is a bit too little.
Not a CS major and not great at CS and absolutely loved 1332 (1332 NOT 1371) with Dr. HB. Thought the lectures were well laid out and definitely helped with homework and visualization. Lots of great resources, tests are a time crunch. Again, not great at CS, but the weekly HW took me days to finish. Loved Dr. HB, would take again; definitely cares!
she really knows her stuff and on top of that she can reallllly teach very well. go to class and struggle through the homeworks and youll get an A/B atleast. Tests are very hard but she gives you everything needed to prepare adequately for them.
Very passionate, kind and intelligent professor. Excellent TA team who genuinely cares about solving your doubts. The comments they give on the homework are super detailed and you sort of understand why you lose certain points. Exams are semi-tough, but doable.
Professor HB was an okay lecturer, but most of the learning I did happened outside of class; homework, extension materials, and recitation really helped. She also posts the video lectures she makes for the online section of 1332, which are A LOT more concise and straightforward than the in-person lectures. Use them for sure.
HB is a great professor who knows her content really well, and really cares about her students too. Not to mention, the TAs are super helpful!
I'm surprised HB has such a low rating. I think she is my favorite professor I've taken at GT so far, but others don't feel the same. I found her lectures to be very helpful, despite her hand writing her code, it gives time to follow what shes saying. She's the most caring professor I've ever had and genuinely cares for her students.
Class material-wise, Dr. HB was decent in organizing the material. I took the online version. You'll do fine in assignments watching the lectures. The class is hard not necessarily because of material, but because of the exams. If exams didn't turn open book because of COVID-19, I would've had to memorize homework code to get As (was getting B-'s).
Took the SOUP version in the summer. It was pretty organised and curated (I've heard it's better than the in-person version). The exams were pretty easy (median for the 2nd one was 90) but I always got slammed in the homeworks. The exams account for most (84%) of the grade so just be careful with that.
The modules used for the online vers of this class were organized, concise, and useful. Dr. HB was incredibly sweet every time I had the chance to email/talk to her, and the TA's were the best. I don't know why theres so many negative reviews for her, but I would opt for the online version if I could. One of the best classes I've taken at GT so far
I rarely ever interacted with Dr. HB as I took the online version of 1332, but the lecture videos were very effective in learning the material. Plus 1332 has a great group of TAs and lots of support materials, so overall a pretty easy class. As others have mentioned, take the online version.
Slow lecturer, and the lectures are pretty boring. You will learn mostly from the TA's, they are a godsend. Exams make up like 80%+ of the grade, but the class is still HW heavy (although they count for like 10% of the grade). If you do the work, I feel like this class is fine.
I don't know how anyone could complain about the online section? The modules are clear and concise and any confusion could be solved through office hours and recitations. A bit harder to do that in the corona semesters but I would say the class is fair
People are very hard on HB. She cares so much and teaches the course in such a clear way. I think she is a great professor and I think people get intimidated by her but she is a nice person, she just is short with you. Get over it, she's great.
HB was such a kind, caring professor. Her class was not easy (in my opinion). The class was VERY test heavy, which can be a problem if you mess up even one of them. However, her module videos were clear/concise, TAs were always ready to help, and she answered many questions in class. I enjoyed 1332 a lot content-wise, and HB made it even better.
Hate the grading structure of this class. I believe exams account for 84% of your grade. Project work should be rewarded a lot more. With respect to HB module videos, they are pretty boring and you really do learn a lot more from the TAs and other students. Would take it again only because Piazza was very active and helpful.
HB isn't a bad lecturer, but she can be dry and often is just reading off her slides. She wants students to do well and learn, though, and is willing to help if you ask for it. Exams are heavily based off the homework and slides, so spend time on those (recitation TAs are also super helpful).
HB is such a boring lecturer and the modules for this class are also super boring and unhelpful. Would not take again and I just want to get this class over with.
I really, really did not like HB. I felt that she was disrespectful to her students and not at all caring or flexible in regards to our well-being. Additionally, if you do badly on even one of the tests, it is extremely hard to make up for it because the class is so dependent on test grades and not on actual coding work.
HB has very helpful instructional videos and organized materials to help students learn. That being said, the exams are very difficult to complete within the given time frame and they're weighted so heavily-which is strange because you'll spend most of the time in this class doing homework. I highly recommend a different 1332 professor if you can.
Dr. HB knows what she is doing! Her exams are easy if you study and do the 10 coding HWs. Her exam questions come directly from the lectures, recitations, and HWs. This class is very easy content-wise! And the Final Exam is even easier than the 3 regular Exams, which is a plus because the Final Exam weighs more than the regular Exams and HWs!
Well, it's data structures and you have to work and study a decent amount to get an A. TAs are great. Understand each data structure with fine details since the exams (especially the MC) will test you on your ability to synthesize that knowledge. The coding portion is always the scary part of the test. Just gotta grind and memorize the code.
Dr. HB is by far one of the best professors I've had here at Tech. She truly cares about the success of her students and is always available/very helpful in office hours. She is also very understanding. This is a tough class with a lot of weight on exams, but if you do the homework and ask for help when you don't understand then you will do well!
Class has a lot of resources you need to succeed - you don't really need to take notes during lecture (recitation and doing practice before the exams is adequate). Lectures are mediocre and exams are heavily weighted but not that hard if you study.
Very passionate about what she teaches and an excellent lecturer! The online videos are professionally developed and of extremely high quality. This course covers a lot of content and you will need to study a ton of material for exams, but HB gives you so many resources that you will undoubtedly be successful as long as you put in the work.
HB is very caring about her students and TAs provide valuable feedback and recitations (GO!). Lots of resources available in the class - the onus is on you to succeed. There is a wide breadth of knowledge, but the course doesn't try to put you down (i.e. exams are very fair and not nit-picky ahem 1331, etc.).
Prof. HB was ok. The lectures were a bit dry and I stopped going about a month in. However, the amount of material available for the class is crazy and if you put in the work, you're guaranteed an A.
1 Final 25% 5 Quizzes 50% 8 Homeworks 20% 42 Mini-Completion based Quizzes 5% Despite it being an intro class and one of the easiest CS courses at GT, don't take it unless you are already familiar with CS.
The program you use is easy to grasp but the way she shows how to code in-class is too advanced for non-CS students to catch on and replicate on homework and quizzes consistently so I don't recommend taking her unless you are already pretty experienced with various coding interfaces.
Her lectures are pretty dry if she doesn't tell you about her day or what happened in her life but her homework, practice worksheets, and practice modules/quizzes are very close to what you get asked on the actual quizzes so if you just care about getting a good grade and moving on from CS, Dr. HB is pretty good.
This course was designed very well. There were always multiple ways to learn the content whether it be through lectures, professionally produced videos, or well planned recitations by the TAs. I really enjoyed taking this course, and I always felt the the expectations and grading were fair and understanding.
lectures aren't mandatory but they are amazing for understanding the material, which helps a lot since the course is test heavy. The professor provides a ton of material that is super helpful for homework and test review! If you attend lecture and work through all the material provided you will do fantastic! best class i've taken at ga tech
This is one of the most comprehensive, well-constructed courses I've ever taken at Georgia Tech. Class has a ton of TA's with a lot of support outside of class. Homeworks are really good challenges that are super helpful in preparing for the exams. Class grade is dominated by midterms/final, so you do need to perform. High effort you will succeed
She spends more time talking about her dog than actually teaching. For an intro cs class, it's really hard to follow with 0 previous knowledge. The TAs def carry her class but if they aren't teaching the lecture, you can teach yourself just as much as she would but in less than half the time. Also there's no way to put recorded lectures on 2x speed
Really good professor. The class content is really organized and Professor gives you all the tools to do great. Homeworks are really challenging and you learn a lot from them. The grade is mostly made up of Midterm and Final so you should do great. The best CS class I have taken so far in my life.
This class was a reasonable amount of work. I was so nervous about the CS requirement and I had never taken CS before, but HB did not make it hard to earn an A. I kind of enjoyed her class, and the TAs were great too. She's also very kind and understanding and was flexible with deadlines when I really needed it.
Honestly, not bad. Lecture was pretty boring tbh, but the course offers so much study material that it doesn't really matter. Hudachek is very clear on her expectations for what will be on and how to do assignments/tests, and the TAs for this class are probably the best out of any CS course.
Take CS1332 asynch! The videos are clear, concise, and well done. HW's can be hard and time consuming.
Provides great videos with many example problems/walkthroughs. Lots of study material and very clear on expectations and what to know. Exams are reasonable and direct, with no silly trivia or gotcha type questions. If you study with the material given, you will do well.
Really enjoyed the class! Professor makes sure that people understand and is willing to spend time going through examples and answering questions. The pace is relatively fast, but as long as you review the content and study well, the tests aren't too bad. The videos are amazing! Honestly, one of the best teachers I have ever had.
She's a decent professor, but quite inflexible and not super understanding at times. I still think she's a solid choice, but the way she structures her class is kind of annoying.
The vast amount of resources that HB provides for this class is the main reason I would advise you to take her section. There are lecture videos, lecture slides, TA slides, recitation slides, visualization tools, extension resources and so much more. Having all these resources at your disposal for such an essential CS course is a great help.
This class was miserable. I'm not sure if it's always this way at Tech, but the college of computing makes this class an awful experience, which stinks because the material is really cool and HB lectures well. The exams in this class are the worst part. Too much material, not enough time. Doable, but painful. The memorization is ridiculous. Avoid.
TA's are a godsend. HB i feel like is kind of strict for no reason and I feel like the tests aren't really written fairly.
Dr. HB is a fantastic teacher but she can be tough. She teaches the material very effectively and goes slow enough for everyone to gain a solid understanding. Her tests are difficult but fair and will require you to invest a significant amount of time studying. As a teacher, HB is awesome but just be prepared to work hard.
The recorded lectures were one of the best I have seen for any course. The class is graded mostly on exams and no exams or homework are dropped so be prepared to work hard for this class
The class is definitely difficult, and HB can be a bit strict making it a bit harder than it should be. The exams are decently difficult but there are more than enough resources for you to study and feel prepared. While the class is tough HB's lectures are some of the best in the business, and will help you fully understand and learn the material.
Harder than other professors, but this is the one class as a CS student you want that. She did seem strict at times, have heard stories of kids getting in trouble for code similarity on hws so be careful. Online lecture modules are the clearest and best presented lectures I've ever seen. While strict, she did seem to care about her students
While the module videos went over a lot of concepts very thoroughly and there were a lot of good resources provided, some aspects of this class were just unfair and too much. The professor tries to cram every single topic from the unit into the tests and gives us no time to even finish them, and then the amount of homework is just excessive.
Dr. HB says it on the first day: DO THE HOMEWORKS TO DO WELL! She provides a bunch of resources on canvas to supplement her lectures (or replace them). If you genuinely put in the effort to do the assignments, you'll be fine. Very fair in the sense that she'll only ask coding questions on material that has been graded. No dropped HWs or exams, tho.
Dr. HB really cares about her students and their success. The TAs in this course are amazing and help her make this course manageable. There is a lot of work in this course, but it is very relevant to the job sphere, so it is good to learn the material. There are bunches of resources to help you succeed supplied by her and the TAs!
Really great professor! Kind, knowledgeable, and available. Her lectures get a bit boring and she was absent for quite a few of them, but a great (and really big) TA staff filled in the gaps. This course is pretty heavily dominated by homework, so don't overload yourself on courses and don't procrastinate.
Decent lecturer, great TAs, and she's very nice but is decently strict. The class is clearly exam focused as the 3 exams and final are 84% of your course grade, and they are moderately difficult. Exams are fair, but the timing isn't too great, forcing you to learn the material thoroughly. However, there's a ridiculous amount of helpful resources.
Above average professor, lectures are really really optional (I went, but know so many who didn't and still did well). So much extra material to learn the stuff. TAs are amazing. So basically do the homeworks, study for the exams, and you should be good.
Dr. HB is overall a great choice for CS 1332. The in-person option that she offers is a little tougher than the online CS 1332 section since you have to memorize everything for the in-person exams, but her lectures walk through all the content you need to know. Homeworks are clear and reflect the test content accurately. Overall, great teacher!
Lectures were sometimes hard to learn from since she handwrites notes. But this is made up for by the excellent quality of the online lecture module videos which thoroughly cover all course material in a succinct way. This is a very well organized class with amazing TAs and plenty of resources and a must have for anyone entering the tech field.
The online lectures that were available were high quality and did a great job of explaining the course material thoroughly. If you wish to succeed in this class, take advantage of the material that is offered along with the TAs. Done well, you have most of the tools necessary to succeed in many other aspects of tech.
I took an online async version of this course and I really enjoyed the format. The modules online consisted of well-made videos that taught the content really well. I did not interact much with the professor but I did enjoy the class. Grading can feel a bit harsh at the start but there are lots of resources + TAs are very helpful with explanations.
Took her async class over the summer and had too many problems. If u r off campus during the summer, good luck. Async class but has tests in person, i had to email the dean for remote TA office hours and that still took weeks to implement and TA's didnt show up sometimes, and shes a stubborn pain in the ***. Cant admit when she/TA's are wrong.
All tests are cumulative, so each test just becomes straight memorization of too many topics and is ineffective at best. She crams so many topics into each test and the timing is awful. Grading can be lenient sometimes but good luck getting a regrade. Homeworks are excessive and u have to memorize them for the test. Exams are not well made at all.
-Grading breakdown: 50% quizzes (5 worth 10% each), 25% final, 20% HW, 5% participation -Course is leacture-heavy, so attendance is strongly recommended -Quizzes and HW were fairly easy -HW often done in class with help -Prof was personable and caring -Learning curve is steep if you've never taken CS before, but it gets a lot easier
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IN SUMMER. Other than that, the TAs were really nice and helpful. The tests were more like memorization test but there were a lot of partial credits. This class should not be hard during a full semester because you need time to absorb the new materials.
Her modules are awesome, she is an amazing lecturer and offers an insane amount of resources. Her TA's are probably the most useful TA's I have ever had. BUT SHE -AS WELL AS HER TA's- CAN NOT WRITE. The test questions for the multiple-choice sections and her socrative polls are worded so poorly that only the writer knows what is being asked.
Very nice professor teaching me CS 1332 in Summer 2022. Full of easy-to-understand lecture records help me a lot in both time-saving and well-understanding.
HB cares. She puts effort into her craft, and it shows. 1332 is a challenging class, but you'll never feel like you've been duped because you're given so many resources to succeed. I wish more professors focused on students' success/imparting knowledge like HB vs crafting tricky problems to show you... how clever they are, I guess?
Great professor. Notes during class were easy to follow, and she thoroughly goes through every example making sure we understand. TAs were amazing as well. The amount of resources they provide is crazy. She gives us the entire online class modules for us to use. They give you all the things you need to succeed, make good use of them to do well.
This professor is awesome. She is kind and caring but also strict when it comes to grading sometimes. But overall very fair. I wish we had more professors like HB!
Overall course very well structured. I appreciate how many different resources there are in addition to lecture, and I wish other courses would be more like hers
HB was an amazing professor to have, and while the content can be tough at times, there are plenty of resources available to students, and she always picks amazing TAs! Tests can be a little long for some people, especially with a 50 min time limit, but overall she's great!
HB is a good professor - she cares about her students and her TA team is really awesome. Her lectures do become quite dry, but she has created an exceptional module system for 1332- you can learn pretty much everything through her module videos, which are concise and teach the concepts really well.
Lecture videos very dry but covers content well. Had to use restroom before final, and was not let back into room by TAs despite test not even starting. On another occasion, HB was very condescending and rude over a simple question. Teaching is very average quality, at BEST.
I learned a lot from HB, she has great lecture videos that cover all the content so you don't need to go to lecture in-person if you don't want to. The homework was coding data structures and the tests were a good challenge. HB also cares about her students and she's funny sometimes
HB's in-person lectures were okay, and I did not like how she gave us an exam after break due to GT "changing" their scheduling. However, the resources and recorded lectures for this class were extraordinary! The TA's are also great, and recitation was a great review of the material.
She was a good professor. She takes time, and writes down materials, gives examples, and goes over the materials. The TAs are the best! Everyone is very knowledgeable, understanding, and helpful. The tests are difficult if not practiced. ALWAYS attend all questions, there are partial credit. If you do all the non-coding question, you will get a B.
Amazing lectures! The in depth explanation of data structures and algorithms and diagramming helps learners of different types to all learn the concepts well. The homework and tests were fair and TA's and Professor are accessible, caring, and very helpful in general! Great motivations, resources, lectures, and help! Probably the best class I've had
Took the asynchronous section so wasn't in direct contact with HB. Overall her videos and resources posted online are extraordinary and really prepare you for both the exams and homework. TAs are very helpful for the course and are easy to ask questions. Exams are applications of learned data structures. Maybe the most organized class at Tech.
Unlike most professors, she handwrites her notes - which is SUPER helpful for diagramming, an integral part of each exam. By attending class and taking notes with her, you're actively learning the content. Practice exams are provided before each exam, and they do not stray format-wise from those practice exams. There are a ton of online resources
HB is a good professor. Her lectures are a bit boring but useful. The homework and assignments are easy in my opinion. There are plenty of resources online to help you succeed.
Hands down the best class I've taken so far. The course is super well run, thanks to HB herself and the TA team. Her pacing may be slightly slow, but I think it's alright since she spends a lot of time making sure that students understand the concepts. Her module videos are very good as well. 10/10 class.
Go to class for an A
I took the in-person section, and the lectures were very helpful. HB takes time to go over the tough concepts, but leaves the easier memorization to do on your own. The TAs are good, and office hours are a great resource for the homework which is challenging but prepares you for the tests. HB usually gives hints about what to study before tests.
I took the online section, and the lectures left a lot to be desired compared to how involved and rigorous the in-person sections were. You can definitely do well in the course if you apply yourself a lot and really hammer home the concepts, but there is a lot of material to learn.
CS 1332 is organized really well by efforts of Prof HB. They provide all the necessary materials on Canvas so it's even ok if you don't attend lectures. Online videos provide more information than taught in lectures. Homework and exams are manageable thanks to all the materials and helpful TAs.
I really liked her haha
Great lectures and very in depth, go to office hours if needed the TAs are amazing resources. Course is really difficult but arguably the most important class of all CS major. Start Leetcoding right after taking this class.
I found this subject very easy, but I could see how one might struggle in this class. She's not very good at teaching and really makes me wonder if she understands the material herself sometimes. It's hard to believe that at one of the greatest CS schools in the world, she's the one teaching the most important (i think) class. very mediocre
Overall terrible course structure (3 exams + 1 final and they account for 85% of your grade, w/ 70% minimum exam average policy). Little to no time on the exams (50 mins to do MC, diagramming, and 2 coding questions).Too much emphasis placed on useless memorization; course designed by someone in Academia with zero work experience outside academia.
This professor was outstanding - easily one of the best professors at Tech! Her class made me wish I was in CS - I'm CompE. Moreover, she was very caring - my registration time once fell during one of the exams, so she let me take the exam with an earlier section so that I could register at the earliest. Highly recommend!
I took the hybrid version of this class and can't say that I recommend it. It makes it a lot harder to learn the material if you're trying to do it all from the module videos. If you take the hybrid option, please go to the in-person lectures anyways, it helps out a lot. Otherwise, the class is very straightforward and you know what is expected.
I think HP is ok I just had her during the first attempt of hybrid in an 8am lecture and when she was facing some health problems. The lectures do NOT teach you material rather it focused more on showing examples from material you should've learned beforehand. Overall it was okay, but the hybrid section will probably get more organized with time.
Took the hybrid version and don't recommend it. Nearly all learning is from pre-recorded videos. The videos are well produced and have nice visuals though. Exams + final make 85% of your grade and homeworks can take a while. Felt like there's a lot of emphasis on memorizing rather than fully understanding and being able to synthesize from content.
Test are very difficult and should be studied for.
Took the async version over summer. The videos were well produced and being able to watch them over and over again was convenient. Coding assignments felt fair, grading was kind of harsh with all of the edge case testing but that's more my fault. Fair professor.
Overall the class was just hard. You need to get a good grasp on the concepts in order to get a good grade. They post helpful videos so rewatch them if you want a good grade. Also do the hw since the coding on the tests are based on the hws
Very slow talker (had to watch all videos on 2x speed...)). Exams are overly difficult and there is a huge emphasis on memorizing time complexity and straight up CODE from the homework. This course has been nothing but a huge waste of time for me; I did not learn much useful stuff. Please revise course structure. Minimum 70 exam average to pass :/
does not explain concepts well and is passive aggressive. does not care about students. class is very hard and focuses a lot on memorization. exams are difficult and grading structure of the class is awful.
Great online videos that make attending class irrelevant. Content is very digestible and reflective of the exams. My main qualm with HB is her lack of respect for students that I felt she showed very regularly. Not only to students, but also her TAs. As of right now, there really aren't any bad options for 1332, but keep the module videos in mind.
Very good lecture videos. Exams were full of gotchas but overall class does a goos job at improving your coding skills and knowledge for later classes.
I took 1332 over the summer, meaning that the time constraints changed the way the course was structured. Professor Hudacheck-Buswell was a great professor that constantly worked towards accounting for the needs of the students. Lectures were only once a week, so I had to make the most of her pre-recorded videos and TA team in order to do well.
Took this class during the summer. At the beginning, she seemed like she would be a scary teacher, but by the end of the semester it was clear that she was cared a lot about her students and the material she taught. Exams were based exactly on the homeworks and there were plenty of extra credit opportunities.
Good lecturer, clear explanations. Do not hesitate to ask questions anytime you have a doubt - she will answer your question thoroughly. I had the hybrid section, and her prerecorded videos are a solid resource. Well-organized course as well.
Professor Hudachek-Buswell's 1332 class is challenging but rewarding. Her video lectures are clear, and tools like Unstuck study can help supplement your learning. Exams test your grasp of concepts, so stay on top of the material.
I learned a lot in this class, and it was low stress. The grading is very fair, and she even lets you exempt the final if you do well on the three exams. Exam content is easier than HWs and is similar to the practice exams on canvas. Lecture attendance wasn't required. Definitely recommend.
I took this course 3 times before I passed. There is an annoying test grade policy that makes it to where you can pass, but are still forced to retake the class. All things aside, HB is a great professor. She is caring for her students and is very involved. 1332 is simply a challenging course for those who are not ahead in their CS education.
Very difficult to reach professor rarely responds to emails and is very last minute about updates like when the final is. Awful class with some of the worst test on knowledge I've seen just avoid at all cost.
Dr. HB's CS1332 class is one of my all-time favorites at GT, due in large part to how diverse the amount of learning materials there are. You can watch the module videos if you're more visual, use the vistool if you're more hands-on, or read from the slides if you prefer text-answers. The tests can be tricky, but are quite fair. Best CS course @GT.
She made these ridiculously high-quality lecture videos that are clear, concise, and easy to follow along. Discovering them made studying for exams so much easier. Do not take this class for granted, please just do the homeworks on time and study for the exams and you'll get an A.
HB is a decent lecturer; the course is just a bit tough for someone with little prior knowledge on the topics. I know people who claim to have bad experiences with her based on her character, but I have had no issues with her.
She literally has no idea what she is talking about. This course is run by incompetent people and makes GT look like a laughing stock
I took the online section of this class and Dr. HB has amazing lecture videos that are incredibly helpful and well done! the exams are pretty difficult, but fair enough if you know the content. She's also really understanding, I had to take an emergency absence and she waived any late points I had on the HWs. I would definitely recommend!
honestly this class was pretty difficult, only because there are very few things this class is graded by. not to mention you have to have a passing exam average to pass the class. i get it, there are probably reasons why but as someone who had a hard time understanding things, it did not make it any easier that i didn't have any saving graces.
O K HI BYE O K
Probably the most caring professor I've ever had. She wants her students to not only succeed in this class but in your life and career. Her course is tough, but she explains topics well and although I never went to her Office Hours, she seems like the type of professor that would do whatever it took to help you out.
Dr. HB had amazing lecture videos and was a great person. CS 1332 was a bit more difficult than CS 1331 but there were plenty of resources to help one succeed on everything. Tons of extra credit administered throughout the year as well (about 7 bonus points towards exams + CIOS bonus).
Important class. Very good lecturer for the portion of the class she teaches. Attend class. Very good and accessible TA's, take advantage of them. You need to stay on top of homework and understanding to do well. Grading is harsh on tests, and the material on them seems more complicated and abstract than you would expect from a core understanding.
Super easy class; pretty easy lectures. Wish she engaged a lot more with the class. Also, the lectures were really slow. Take Faulkner
As a lecturer, she doesn't get through all of the content, makes mistakes, and frequently misses class. However her videos are very good quality and there are tons of resources online, so putting in the effort to making sure you stay caught up with the curriculum is a must and will get you a good grade. Dont go to class and just watch the videos
Class is taught completely virtual. Didn't meet the professor until the day of the final exam. Lecture videos are helpful, but reality checks seem out of date with exam difficulty/questions. Demos were a new thing added to the class, which I think was unnecessary due to the fact that we have no projects in this course and the class is online.
The online class. Would recommend if you are comfortable with online pacing. The recorded content is pretty close to what is on the exam and isn't significantly out of date. Just make sure to keep up with the recorded content prior to the exams. Loved the sections on additional topics in theory that wasn't present in the online CS1331 class.
Lectures aren't very helpful. Her videos are pretty good and the TAs are very helpful. Basically very TA led. Faulkner taught our class once and he was pretty good, take him instead. Exams aren't too bad and similar to past exams but grades were very test heavy.
