She is a great teacher. She makes the class fun and easy to understand. Tests pretty easy- she gives a study guide and goes over the each question the day before the test- gives you answer basically! Recommend taking!
great teacher. final not cumulative. reading is a little demanding if you don't keep up, and lectures are really helpful. study guide given before tests. highly recommended
Laid back lectures, study guides, multiple choice exams - thats the easy part. The harder part was the outside of class term paper based on field research. It simply takes more time to do these things, making the class easy and hard.
Great class, great teacher! She is funny and informative, I highy recomend this class!

She is really a nice person and easy to listen to, great lectures! Class consists of 3 exams and a 4 page agency report. You have to read and understand everything to do well on the exams- It's not a class you can just skate through!
She is the best psychology teacher that I have ever had. She is concise and to the point and tells you what you need to know to succeed in the class. She even gives you extra credit on random days just for showing up. She also reviews for the exam and gives you a study guide. I give this teacher my highest recommendation!
Great teacher! Pretty easy exams as long as you study the study guide and she gives you all that you need to know for the exam. Class is very interesting, never a dull moment!
Just like everyone says, she is a great teacher. Class with her is not boring, in fact it's fun! She treats students as equals and she relates to students in a way that no other psych teacher I have had does. The tests are preety good, a couple of tricky questions here & there. But she is great!
Great teacher, very fair. All you have to do to understand the course work is show up, she is very clear and has a great sense of humor.
Class structure is very easy: 3 100-point exams and 1 50-point paper. Mary gives very clear lectures that can sometimes seem like she's spouting of statistics, but they all pertain to the lecture topic. It's fun to hear some of her family stories, too. Just show up and take notes, especially the day before a test, and you'll do fine.
she thoroughly knows the topic, enjoys talking about it and makes the class feel like a visit with a wise and wonderful mother figure ready to fill you with joy. Tests are easy if you pay attention, no attendance. recommended.

i loved her!!! she is great her class is interesting. for the test she gives a very good test prompt and she goes over the test 2 let u know what it will be like! she doesn't trick u! and she is very open to questions. she had a exam review the class before the test plus a study session after class b4 the test! Multiple choice test!!!
Very easy class. She lectures most classes(not boring) and shows a couple films. Very good sense of humor. Only one 2 page paper due(current event), 3 exams. Attendance is extra credit!!! Even if you miss a couple classes, if you show up the class before the test she goes over each question that will be on the exam! Multiple/True/False-Exams.
I love Mary!! She is a very fair grader, loves to tell us stories about her life (which are quite entertaining), and has a strong passion for what she teaches. She really knows what she is talking about! I would highly recommend this teacher to anyone. Be prepared to write fast because she talks fast, but she doesn't mind repeating heif necessar
She is a good teacher. Very organized. Tests are just right. Wish I would've taken her for Psy 435 as well!
Very nice lady, and good teacher when she's teaching....but prepare to spend half the class listening to stories about her family and news articles. Lots of videos. If you've taken other classes on the subject you'll be fine, if not prepare to read the text book and teach yourself a bit. Grade based on 3 tests and 1 project that is relatively easy.
She's the best! I've taken 3 classes with her. So far all have been graded based on 3 exams and 2 fairly easy papers (no busy work/quizzes). Her class is always fun, she tells tons of stories and has a great sense of humor. Shes really helpful and really friendly. You can tell she loves what she does. If you ever get a chance, take her!
She is a very nice lady! I really enjoy her! I had this class on thursday at 6:10-9 pm and she made it very easy to stay the whole class. She shows videos every once in awhile, lectures mainly the whole time. However, she has 5 kids so she knows her stuff and makes it interesting by using her kids as an example. Take this class, her test easy!
Mary was a great professor. Make an effort to talk to her outside of class or at least make sure she knows your name..it will help your grade (trust me). Her lectures are entertaining and it wasn't hard to sit through the three hour class.
Great teacher, fair exams, and interesting lectures.
She's an excellent teacher that makes her lectures stiumulating. I also like the fact that she stays neutral on controversial issues such as Iraq or abortion when her students were rudely expressing their views. Her exams are easy but if your a foreign exchange student, you may have a difficult time understanding her questions.
HUGHES-STONE IS AN AMAZING TEACHER! I HAVE TAKEN HER TWICE. KEEPS LECTURES INTERESTING,GIVES GOOD EXAMPLES. SHE IS REALLY FUNNY AND TELLS GOOD STORIES. RECOMMEND TALKING TO HER CUZ IF SHE KNOWS YOU IT WILL HELP YOU OUT. EASY TESTS AND 3 SIMPLE PAPERS. TAKE HER!
i love prof hughes-stone. she brings a lot of personal experiences (with her kids) to class to help understand the material. she keeps the lectures interesting, and always makes you glad you came to class! plus she's hilarious so that makes it easy too! it will definitely help you out if she knows who you are!!
loved her class. period
I had her for PSY 330 and PSY 435. For 330 she was WONDERFUL, and that's her strong subject. She didn't seem as knowledgable for 435; we watched a lot of videos, and she used a lot of the same jokes, but it was still fun. She just talks- very little board-writing, and no power-points, but she's really interesting, clear, and takes questions well.
She is a very helpful teacher
Honestly, she's pretty boring and talks about her kids WAY too much. She also says "um" a lot. But, if you go to class, tests are easy.
I loved her lectures and her tests were right off her study guide. TAKE her and you wont be sorry!!!
Just go to class & take notes on what she lectures & you will definitely get an A. I didn't even use my book (which was kind of a waste of money since all I needed was to listen to lecture). Be sure to come on Fridays, that's days she gives extra credit for attendance. I was surprised how 1/4 - 1/2 the class would not come on a Friday.
This professor just doesn't have time to really listen to her students. All her examples are from her family, etc. I asked her several times to clear something up and just did not really want to answer the question and was very monotonous and acted as if she had more important things to do. I definitely don not recommend her.
Overall, good teacher. Doesn't bust out with any fancy powerpoints or anything like that but as long as you show up to class, take notes, do the two short papers, and know the terms from the book you will be all set.
She is an incredibly nice woman and a great person, but the lectures sometimes seem a little random and out of context.
3 Exams, 1 paper, Informal Presentation! Class is easy to follow, study guide is very helpful, nice and easy to listen to, lots of great example from own family, great professor!
I've come to realize that she just does not teach well! In her classes other than developmental psychology, only about %10 is worthwhile information discussed in the book. Everything else is just her rambling. You miss out on so much critical info. Also the tests are ridiculous because her questions make no sense.
This class was a joke. She was sick and absent from the class for about a month, but when she came back it was still terrible. Boring $$$$ textbook, boring lectures, spent many ENTIRE class times passing back piles of paper report cards. TAs (useless) weren't allowed to grade parscores or papers so months of work was handed back on the last day.
She's decently funny and a nice lady. That said; she wasted many classes worth of time handing back papers and test scores individually, her lectures cover about 50% of needed material, took all semester to get our papers back, refuses to use Ilearn or powerpoint. Frustrating experience for this motivated student.
While she is a very nice teacher who reminds you of your friends mom, she did tend to play favorites a little. The classes were hit and miss (really interesting some days and quite boring others). Not always clear on what to know for exams-especially the final. You also raise a virtual child and write a paper on it, which was fun and different.
This is my second class with her. She's very easy but when I do have a question she can sometimes come off as unapproachable or condescending, I don't know if she just doesn't like me or what because most others seem to think she's nice! And yeah, you learn more by reading the textbook than you do by coming to class. Easy to get at least a B though
I've taken this professor numerous time -- each time, my work was beyond excellent yet receiving my deserving marks. She does play favorites! It's quite boring (no point in coming to class) and she skips important contemporary material. Useless professor!! It's not even worth taking her class for the easy B.
By far one of the worst teachers at SFSU. Her lectures are comprised of her talking about herself or her family. She does choose her favorites and disregards everybody else. Also, her rambling seems to confuse students. She is not a very good speaker.
It's really hard to keep up with note taking while she lectures. There are no slides on ilearn or in class, so you need to write fast. This does not help students learn, it only stresses them out! She also gives extra credit randomly on days that she returns papers, but that's it.
Very nice teacher but not in command of the material. The subjective nature of the class content was often left poorly addressed and defined with a "your guess is as good as mine" attitude. Test questions were often confusing, even tricky. Some students might prefer the at-home online tests with lots of time. Also lots of extra credit opportunities
She chastised me in front of the class for lack of attendance. Last time I checked, attendance wasn't mandatory and I learned more staying at home reading the text than the times I did come to class. It's not that I'm lazy, it's that she needs to change her teaching style, plus I had way too much on my plate this semester.
She is a very nice lady the only problem i had with her class was that she would always talk about herself in her lectures. She was kinda disorganized and she would often let the class out early. her quizzes were all online which was pretty easy. sometimes it didnt feel necessary to even attend lecture.
This class was such a joke. so easy. You barely need to show up. 2 easy papers and all exams are online. This class was like a video twice a week, plus one day of her "lectures" which was her rambling on her family and friends. She is rude, and cold to students. And don't get me started on the stupidity of classmates.
Mary is a wonderful professor. I recommend her class! APA format for two essays. Her lecture does consists of her personal stories but only because she is applying that to the material in class. As long as you go to class and read the book, you will do just fine. Quizzes and exams are easy but some questions are a bit tricky. Great class! :)
Her movies are outdated, her lectures consist of stats rather than substance, and some of her tests questions are poorly written. When I confronted her about mistakes on the test (I had proof,) she was cold and unconcerned. She is stubborn at the expense of logic and students grades. A good teacher is humble and admits when they've made a mistake.
Take good notes, 3 online at home tests, you get to raise a virtual teen online which was interesting, and she gives tests prompts and final is optional, I recommend her.
3 Online exams, gives test prompts, take good notes and you should get a A in the class.Final not mandatory.
She's nice. One APA paper, and you get to raise a virtual teen. Sometimes, the lectured were boring. Attendance not mandatory, but she sometimes offers extra credit. Take decent notes and make sure you have the book handy during the online tests. Final is optional.
Writing is a strong subject for me. This class should not have been one to slave over! Cool we did blogs, but assignments are extremely unclear "open". She contradicted herself ALL the time marking everyone down in the end!!! An A paper must sound like something SHE would write. Course is mainly a power trip. Not many liked it. Hate to be negative.
This course is fast-paced. It was challenging for me because I don't like writing. However, I did like that we had 6 small papers (2-3 pages) throughout the semester instead of one large paper (15-16 pages) due at the very end.
The readings outside of the text book could easily be found during my internet exploring time. NPR, journals, etc. She doesn't look students in the eyes while lecturing and almost looks bored up there. I had to drop the class bc paying tuition to hear her speak about family isn't worth my time or $. I learned 3 things from 9 lectures.
She's very unclear about what she expects, never giving any info until after your paper is already graded, so you always feel like you're one paper behind in understanding what she's looking for. Also, she never really "taught", we watched movies and did peer reviews for 99% of the class.
I hope you like movies, because that's all you will do. Only two assignments, and 4 tests with the lowest grade dropped. An easy class, just not very interesting. For psychology majors, the content can get boring and repetitive. Easy A
She may come off as a hard-ass but if you talk to her like a real person you will find her very funny and helpful. Everyone who says she's a bad instructor probably didn't even try to meet her halfway. She's not going to hold your hand and walk you through a college course but if you ask for her help she'll make your life a whole lot easier.
BORING. Best word for it. Yes she is nice but she teaches you to write after the papers are due not before and all you do is watch movies you learn very little from her and she doesnt really seem to care about the class. Easy A if you kiss up but not worth it.
She doesnt use ilearn or any power point. She is unclear and doesnt cover much in her lectures as she likes to ramble on. Most of the class failed her first exam due to her "review" session covering absolutely nothing on the test. she also words her test ridiculously unclear and tricky. If you want to pass this class attend the IA review is a MUST
Teaches you nothing, tests you on everything. Her tests are very tricky and convoluted, and there;s only 2 assignments, so it's very easy to lose points and have no way of making them up again. She also likes to teach you after you mess up. AVOID HER
This is one of the worst classes I´ve ever had. She does not know the material so asking her a question is basically useless. If you can avoid her, do it.
Classes can be boring at times. She doesn't use powerpoints, so you have to really pay attention in class. She plays a lot of videos throughout the semester. The study guides aren't useful for the exam. She tests you on things that aren't even on there. She'll randomly give extra credit during class, so it's useful to go.
her classes are boring, she reads her notes word for word rather fast and expects you to jot it all down. her test are mostly from the book, and the test questions are not very clear..they are hard to decrepit what the question is really asking and usually not covered in class. her essays are easy though, and allows for one retake exam.
Online textbook really helps for exams. I kind of stopped attending class towards the end of the semester and was fine. It helps to attend to get extra credit. Virtual child paper is the big ticket grade so FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS. Easiest points to earn aside from attendance. Good professor. I would recommend her for Psych students.
Has to be the worst teacher I have taken during my four years of college. She lectured looking down and reading word for word, never making eyecontact. She was extremely unclear with the 2essays given, and the 4test we took,we were extremely under prepped for. When asking questions she is very unhelpful.Watched movies/listened to her talk about diabetes
This is literally the worst class I have ever taken at SFSU. PLEASE avoid her at all costs she is all busy work and adds nothing to knowledge or experience. She assigns a lot of work for not really having interest in students or subject . She also knows nothing about APA. Dont take her class.
Teaches you nothing regarding how to write a Psychology paper in APA format to be able to do well in any other Psychology course that requires you to write a paper.
Would rate as a zero if possible. She never ever looks up from her notes. Has to be the worst teacher I have ever had.
-5% of your final grade for each class you miss, but class time is mostly just working on future essays. She doesn't lecture, so you're teaching yourself APA and hoping for the best when it comes to graded essays and weekly quizzes. Honestly, take a different teacher if you can.
This class taught me how to write an APA style paper and improved my work in other courses. Also learned lots about health and aging. Professor Stone is organized and helpful to anyone who asks. If you do the work and show respect, she will help you throughout the semester. Tip: introduce yourself right away, share goals, and be professional.
Just simply the worst teacher I have ever had.
Not clear at all and no help with APA writing what so ever, only how to blog.
Professor Hughes-Stone tries but assignments are unclear and there is no help until after they are turned in and having other students that don't know how to write "correct" your writing is useless.
Her tests were unclear and her lectures doesn't correlate with the activities. If you point out one mistake she did on an essay/test, she will change the subject. I've been studying basic psychology on my own since she doesn't teach the class with a power point or any guide lines. She only writes a few phrases on the board and continues to lecture.
I honestly never went to class bc the way she does her notes is of no help to me at all. There are 5 exams, all online and last exam is extra credit. The exam questions are harder than she says. Her lectures are unclear. You are required to do an RER 6 page paper and inQuizitives . I was able to manage A or B on exams.
The tests do not correlate with the exams, and they get harder as the semester progresses. Shes the only Psy200 teacher so if you have to take this class, its very possible to make it work. Do all of the chapter activities that are assigned and you'll be able to pass. Not the most helpful teacher though.
Nice and funny, but I don't think she was very effective in teaching. Her lectures have little to do with the tests. Reading a chapter a week along with lengthy online quizzes. A semester-long research paper. Test questions are vague, little to do with lecture, and are more like "examples" of concepts. Unfortunately required for psych majors.
Worst Professor I have ever encountered in my life! Avoid taking her class!
WORST psychology professor ever. You literally have to teach yourself everything for the exam and her lectures only cover a small part of the exams. I would recommend you to switch majors if this women is teaching you.
WORST professor I've ever had. I was in contact with her all semester about my grade and she was nothing but rude each time and NOT helpful at all! Her class is boring and her lectures barely cover what's on the exams. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!!!
If I hadn't taken AP Psych in high school there would have been no way I would have had an A in the class. She's a terrible professor. She barely lectures, and 3/4 of the time during lecture she would show an irrelevant movie. It's very unfortunate she's the only psych professor for general psych you can take.
Worst professor ever. I wanted to report her but her teacher assistant were being hostile to me. This class isn't welcoming nor friendly, not even helpful at all. The professor ignores all of my questions to the point I don't know what to do anymore. If you want PSY200, do it somewhere else or during the summer. Don't risk your GPA with her.
WORST PROF EVER AT SFSU. Her exams don't correlate with her lectures and she expects us to do well. Do not take this class unless you want to fail.
TERRIBLE. I don't even know where to start, her lectures don't even correlate to the tests. She shows a bunch of videos during class that are not productive at all. I am a psych major and she is making me REGRET choosing this major.
Coming to class is a joke. She literally spends half of class encouraging the class to participate in studies or tutoring or MEDITATE. the tests are SUPER hard and she doesn't give homework often but when she does, it's A LOT. i hated that i didn't get any notification about homework, you literally have to remember from the start of the semester.
In the beginning of the year I thought her course work load was A LOT. But this class was really about how you learn and what pace you learn at. The research project was not that difficult, you get a lot of time to complete it. I skipped class but my grade was still fine. Just read the text book, it helps.
Don't take this class, you will regret it. Her exams are super hard, her study guides don't help. She doesn't teach. The exams are timed and you can't go back to the question once you've answered it. If you need psychology, take somewhere else or pick a different professor. Save your GPA.
Exams were hard, didn't really teach. Would spend more than half the class rambling about something unimportant. But they were online, so half the time I just googled the questions, but the exams are timed. Had to do online "inquisitive" for each chapter and a research paper.
Her class lectures are, for the most part, extremely irrelevant. 5 online exams, one huge paper (which she grades very harshly). Emailing her won't help, as she will disregard any concerns students have. All in all, not a great Professor. Holds her students up to "college" standards, yet doesn't meet them herself as a college professor.
Her lectures are great to listen to, but pretty impractical for the purposes of the class. She doesn't teach out of the textbook, rather she teaches based off of case studies and storieswhich doesn't make sense considering the tests are based off of the book. Her test q's are also really confusing and sometimes are completely incomprehensible.
Never took psychology before & many people recommend not to take it your first year of college. However, I took this class my first semester and it was not SO bad as people make it sound. Many people will say to "stay away" from this professor, but honestly if you're interested in this subject take the class! Just be willing to work for your grade.
I stopped coming to her class. Her lectures aren't helpful whatsoever. I've taken AP psych in high school and that is what allowed me to pass her class with a good grade. The way she words her tests is confusing. If you read the book for hours then you can pass her class, but she just isn't helpful at all
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS YOU WILL INSTANTLY REGRET IT! Exams were hard, she didn't really teach.
Pos: lectures are recorded, so you can watch at home, exams are open notes and text Neg: lectures are based on what she wants to teach you and will not help you on the exams, you are assigned to read an online textbook and get quizzed online every week, exams are hard based on her quizzes from iLearn, waste of money and time DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS
Irrelevant lectures, confusing concepts and poorly-worded homework questions. Do NOT take this class.
Lectures aren't super necessary if you read the text (which is pretty mandatory since the online text is integrated with your quizzes). She cares about learning and doesn't overwhelm you, but it can be easy to get too comfortable and fall behind with the class, so stay on top of it. 1 paper based on a Virtual Child assignment and online tests.
This class is typically large, about 200 students. It is hard to find the motivation to go to class when you won't go unnoticed but regardless, she already has everything online. Whether you show up or not, be consistent with your HW with are ZAPS, do your RER assignment timely, and if you're a psych major, go to her office hours often.
Make sure you try to go to class often - her class can be a little lengthy but as long as you pay attention you will be fine. Tests are tough and are entirely off of the homework. Homework is tough! It takes a while and it helps to know what's going on in the class.
First of all, AMAZING lectures. She keeps the class well-entertained and I would definitely take her class again. In my opinion, best professor at SFSU! Quizzes are easy, and tests are even more easy. Just show up to class and you'll get an A+!
Easiest and worst professor. Confusing and not very helpful, but responds to emails in light speed. Pro tip: If they feel the need to state in their project doc that "many people fail to understand instructions", it's likely them being more of the problem than the students. And this is coming from someone who passed the assignment with an A.
Mary Hughes Stone is a wonderful person, but not a good teacher. She has more guest speakers than teaching herself. The exams are online, but they are timed and difficult, the average is a C and she doesn't curve. All she does when she teaches is read off of her powerpoints and she seems like she barely knows what she's talking about herself.
Why there cannot be another professor for this class? This professor just makes me want to cry.
$66 for text. U use it A LOT. Awesome teacher, you have assignments due online every week. The tests are online but if you dont do ur online homework, take notes, and study u wont do good on your tests. You have one do 3 RERs assignment which are basically two page writing assignments. Not a hard class if you do your homework & study
If you can just try to take this class during the summer with another teacher. Going to class is useless after the first week, there is no point of attending. Everything is online except 2 projects. I STUDIED alot for the exams and managed to always get a bad grade. Maybe I just suck at psy? idk. avoid this class if you can.
If you are not a psychology or nursing students, do not take this class!!!! If you are, oh well try to pass AP psychology or god bless you honestly,
She's honestly not the best teacher, which is why you will have to read your textbook. The tests are online, which means you can use all your resources on it. I usually googled each questions, and majority of them were on quizlet. Everyone complaining about how difficult this class is just don't want to study and want an easy A.
I enjoyed the class even though it was tough.
Since the class is so big (McKenna Theater), you don't really get to have a 1 on 1 connection with the professor unless you go to her during office hours. She kind of powers through the material, and while you are copying down notes, at the same time she will tell you other important things so it is hard to keep up. Do not recommend. Hard class.
Even though it is a big lecture hall and there's plenty of temptation not to show up, you should show up. A tutor told me this class is one that freshmen usually fail because of that. Do your essays and all the quizlets/ tests. She replies to emails very fast if you have any concerns.
Lectures were useless she spent most of the time doing activities that don't teach you anything or prepare you for the material on the exams. Some classes she would spend a third of the time meditating. The exams have little to do with what she teaches you in her lectures. I learned more from inquizitives than I did in class. I do not recommend.
I found that her lectures did not help that much for her exams so I studied off the online textbook. I aced her written papers and did horribly the first two exams when I did attend class, but much better when I barely showed up. She has a sense of humor and is kind. I did all my homework in advance so I wouldn't have to do it weeks later.
Inquizitives are set up for failure: multiple answers for one question and if you get one wrong you get all of it wrong. Doesn't cover much content in class, you basically have to go home and teach yourself the entire chapter. Lectures are hard to keep up and take notes on as well.
Inquizitives are set to fail you, to top that all the RER's that she gives you have to be to her specifications up to the last period or its an immediate 0. She gives so much unnecessary work that does not cover the lecture at all and most of her lectures are pretty much useless for the midterms and final. Definitely would not take this class again
She is honestly one of the most confusing professors that I have ever taken here at SF State. Not only does she post way too many links on ILearn which is hassle to sort through. But her lectures do no good to help you with the exams and quizzes. Her many many inquizitive quizzes are there to fail you and all the questions are poorly worded. Oh boy
Very lecture heavy. Homework due once a week can be very difficult, but the tests and final aren't too bad. It's not hard to pass but you need to put in time just because of the amount of assignments. Everything can be found online so you don't need to go to class
the hw seems like gambling and dis so stressful. She is misleading, stating ZAPs can be used for both papers. I find out the day its due from a rude email from her saying she never said ZAP could be used for the 2nd paper. I vividly remember her saying it the beg. of the year cuz i talked about it with a friend. nonetheless, i failed. too hard.
I feel as though her lectures for the class aren't that important and don't really help with the hw and tests. much of the info for the tests, etc. are not found on her slide shows online so they aren't much help. her online inquizatives are easy points.
Hated this class. Lectures were pretty much pointless and I taught myself most of the material. The textbook is a savior for the exams (take good notes from it!). Five exams online but only four were required. Two papers (go to office hours for help) and easy homework. Extra credit was available but a pain to complete. A teach yourself type class.
Lectures are pointless you spend time meditating and nothing helps you on your exams or papers. The only thing that helps on the exams is the book so buy it and look up answers throughout online exams. Homework is a pain but it's free points. Offers extra credit that isn't difficult, but she will change the due date in class without emailing.
i'm in the middle of the fall semester for her class, and i want to drop out. the way she organizes her ilearn and the actual class is confusing. her lectures, and powerpoints aren't helpful for exams. the inquizitives you have to do for homework are frustrating and basically set you up for failure. don't take this class.
Terrible class. Anything I had learned form the class was on my own accord. The only reason to ever attend the class is to get your points for attendance. If you add headers to your essay, get ready for a 0.
Horrible lectures and you won't learn anything from attending them but she takes attendance now. RERs are bogus. Her inquizitives are treacherous and take forever to pass. Don't take this class. It just causes a headache and she doesn't know how to teach
SAVE YOURSELF. She lectures by talking too fast and she talks like a regular conversation so you may have a hard time knowing which information is or isn't important. She's a harsh paper grader, didn't do 1.5 spacing and I got an automatic F on a paper I worked so hard in. Homework and Test answers can be found on google or textbook.
I am in PSY200 and just decided to google my professor. I was surprised to see all of these negative reviews of Mary. She is kind, available, and she helps students out. The truth of the comments below is that lots of the students who take this class are lazy and they don't read directions. If you read and have common sense, you can pass.
This hands down has got to be the worst class and worst professor I have ever taken in my 4 years here at SFSU. The fact that this woman isn't fired yet is beyond me. Also that there is only one professor teaching this course is appalling. Her lectures are pointless, the lady sometimes literally have you go to class to just meditate. Seriously?
The worst professor I have ever had in all of my years in college here in the U.S and other countries. She does not care about her students and she is unorganized. Ilearn is a mess and most of her lectures are boring. I got a 0 on my research paper because I was a couple of lines short, so expect that too! as a straight A student, I am disappointed
It's a lot different than her general psych class. There is less work to do thank god! There's 4 exams and she drops one. One two pay review of the new online book we're doing. We do weekly investigative developments which are basically case studies where we give our own diagnosis, which is super easy. The questions on the exams are all googleable.
Had to take this class because I am a psych major and I am very disappointed. Her lectures will put you to sleep and are not engaging at all. Not a stimulating environment to learn.
If you aren't a psych major then DON'T take this class. There's so much busy work. Her lectures put me to sleep and her video supplements are super outdated. There's one 2 page paper and one 4 page paper, both with strict guidelines for grading but takes forever to give back the grade. I am a psych major and she made me reconsider that. Bad class.
Class is literally so boring. When it comes to the writing assignments, she's extremely tough on them and requires you to do a lot for them. Exams are 75 min which for a person like me makes it difficult to concentrate. I went to her office hours and she was rude and looked at me as if I was dumb. Worst professor. Don't take this class if possible.
No point going to lecture except the first day of class (homework & 4 midterms are final are online). You have to write 2 papers (get good grades on these, trust me). Midterms are on textbook readings. If you want an A in this class, read the textbook word for word and do the homework ahead of time. Warning: the homework (inquisitive) is horrendous
Very easy class. Everything was provided for you on the iLearn site: recorded lectures, powerpoints, quizzes/exams done online, & one paper. The textbook and assignments were on Cengage Mindtap. I rarely went to lecture and still passed with an A.
Easy class. I didnt show up to class 99% of the time and ended up with 98% solid A. Her homework assignments are THE WORST and requires a long time to finish. Her exams are based off her homework assignments so if you do the homework, you will get an A. There are two writing assignments and trust me, they are so unnecessary. Follow directions!!
SHE IS VERY RUDE AND CARELES I HAVE EVER MET AS A PROFESSOR. YOU CAN LITERALLY NOT GO TO HER FOR ANY SCHOOL ADVICE AND IF YOU ARE A SENIOR SHE WON'T CARE IF YOU NEED TO CRASH A COURSE. I HAVE MISSED WORK, I HAVE CALLED OFF FOR WOKR FOR THIS PROFESSOR AND YET SHE GAVE ME AN EXCUSE FOR AN ASSIGNEMNT WITH HALF CREDIT JUST BECAUSE I WAS SPECIFIC ENOUGH
this class gave me several nervous breakdowns. her criteria for the papers are so specific (like the 1 inch margins) and her tests are super hard. she doesnt take attendance so I got to sleep in. just follow the prompt exactly or she'll give you no credit. her ta is super nice tho!
She is an amazing teacher and her class is supper easy. There are a lot of quizzes but all of them are easy. I highly recommend her.
I don't know how this class was before distance learning but her lectures cover nothing on the exam. Sad because it took me two exams to realize that. All key information is from the textbook and exams are a big part of your grade. Also chapters are so long, if you're a psych major you just have to power through. Not super bad but rude.
I took her in 2018 but omg... if you can get somebody else, especially if you're trying to get into nursing, PLEASE DO! We did this thing called inquisitives for hw and EVERY TIME you get it wrong, it subtracts points and takes longer for you to complete the assignment. Also, PLEASE follow directions or you will get a 0.
DO NOT TAKE THE PSY 200 CLASS. seriously one of the worst professors I have ever had. She is beyond unorganized. Clearly doesn't care about students. during lectures she doesn't even ever go over the material. Homework is seriously pointless as the material and the exams don't align
Extra Credit for ZOOM attendance but tbh I was on autopilot for this entire class. Directions were confusing which made it really hard to follow what was going on. She tries too hard to make exams hard but overall just makes them hard to comprehend.
Not a hard class but overall quality is low. She seems to struggle with online transition. Inquizitives are mandatory and suck but at least you can always get 100%. Directions also were unclear sometimes and exams were often worded weirdly and caused confusion among peers. Her lectures were good though and interesting.
If you are a psychology major don not take this class online! She doesn't care about her students, poor interaction skills. Very disorganized. Her exams are so difficult to comprehend because she words them so weirdly. Her lectures are so boring and sometimes don't match with the exams. I recommend going by the textbook.
Be ready to turn in times at a specific time with no excuses. This teacher made all hw assignments due at 6pm and did not even take late work for partial credit. Her tests and quizzes are also at a specific time so if you are not at a computer by a certain time, you will fail. And even if you email her she won't care. THE WORST OF THE WORST
Taking advice from these reviews, I did not bother watching the lectures at all and thoroughly read/took notes from the textbook each week. All the work I did in this class was essentially teaching myself. This class is not conceptually difficult but can be information dense. One straightforward paper, just double check your formatting.
Not sure why Dr Hughes Stone has no great reviews. I took her this summer, and she was a great teacher. Organized, lets you know how the class will be, and gives weekly emails to let you know about how the weeks will look like. She deserves better credit then negative comments. I passed her class , but you have to work hard like any other class!
NOT a good time. We learned everything from an onlin textbook. Dont bother emailing her she wont reply. Have questions? Ask her student assistant who took the course once last semester. Never interacts with you and just throws random assignments at you at oddly specific times of the day. You learn basic concepts from the book, nothing interesting.
Here's the basic rundown, inquizitive homework once a week, ZAPs once a week which are like small tests (testing hand-eye coordination, etc.) with a short quiz, and sometimes there are forums. Required to take 3 tests out of the 4 given and mandatory participation in a "SONA research study" which is taking a survey and writing an essay about it.
Her class isn't as horrible as these reviews sound. Hw is easy, you can get 100% on the inquisitive if you meet requirements for points and # of questions (can be time consuming). The exams can be a bit tricky, but not bad as long as you read up on textbook. For the sona research study, the grading rubric is simple and easy to hit.
Assigns a lot of homework, so don't expect it to be an easy class. She said attendance was mandatory in the beginning but it turned out to be extra credit- we only med a handful of times in the semester. She has a lot of resources and tutors available to help, and most assignments can be completed till you reach an A. 4 tests and an optional final
Zero in person time spent on the material. Just assigned inquizitives each week and the occasional post. Basically you read the textbook and self-teach the rest. If you can take another professor, do so.
Her lectures have nothing to do with what were learning. Youre essentially learning on your own time with the textbook, thats how youre gonna pass. InQuizitives are stupid. Her exams make no sense sometimes due to grammar or things not relating to what the topic is. She does not except late work whatsoever and emailing her is pointless
I took Psych 200 with Mary online. Basically fully online, zooms were XC. I liked being able to read on my own at my own pace. Textbook is so comprehensive. Yes, you have weekly quizzes but you can retake until you get the grade you want. Her 4 exams are doable just review your material. RER assignment very straightforward. 10/10 rec for PSY Majors
My only issue is that her exams have a lot of mistakes (spelling errors, grammar etc) 4 exams, drops the lowest score- final is comprehensive, but it's optional. Inquisitive and zaps! The RER paper is not hard and she grades the RER paper very leniently. The ZOOM sessions are not mandatory (extra credit!) Overall, it's a pretty easy class.
Only graded on four exams (final is optional if you take them all), an RER paper (lenient grading but time-consuming), quizzes/ZAPS. Didn't listen to any lectures and passed everything (waiting on final grade). Zoom attendance is extra credit. She's just not very friendly. Exams have grammar errors though. Lots of answers on Quizlet.
Maybe it was because it was online class and I should've known better, but this class is basically "learn on your own" kind of class. It just very reading heavy and everything is based off the textbook. As long as you read it and even the practice tests, You should pass. She isn't the friendliest or easiest to talk to.
The class its self does not have no problem. Either than having to learn on your own. It is the professor that makes the class very boring and unwanted. Very hard, lots of readings, and just very unpleasant experiences. Either than that, if you could brush off all of that, and do the work, you could get an A+ very easily.
This class is pretty self-guided, but with the help of resources like the textbook and platforms like Unstuck study, you can do well. The exams have some quirks, but the grading is lenient. A good option for PSY majors.
