If you have to take chemistry, take Mary James. She is a great teacher and makes the course as easy to grasp as possible.

Do the homework on time, it will really help! There is room for extra credit. She will let you drop the worst test grade. There is a comprehensive final. Awesome teaching style and personality. I think she is your best option.

She makes this hard class easy to understand. Her exams are not easy but if you do your homework and study her notes, you should be fine.

this is a hard course, but she repeats the main concepts over and over so you not only remember them, but learn them with out even tring. as long as you go to class, do the homework and prepare for the lab, you should do well

She is an excellent teacher. the subject itself is very hard but she tries to help in any way she can to make you pass the class.

I took itro. chemistry and i hated it; however, Mary James makes the subject soo easy. she repeats the concepts until everyone understand it. The tests are so similar to the homework so make sure u do them.

She is the best chm teacher at fccj. Take her but don't miss the notes and do the hw- every problem! The labs are so easy. You can surely make an A with some effort. Altho the final is 30% of your grade. Don't have to take it if you make 92 on 4 tests.

She is EXCELLENT! The material is hard, but she makes it very comprehendable. You will have to learn. The test are a lil'bit difficult, but again you are there to learn. Recommend to those who want to learn. GREAT teacher! Make 94+ on test no final. GREAT

Really fast pace course and took it in the spring! Absolutely 1000% helpful. To sum it up, you must understand the homework in order to be successful. Do all the "next door" questions to assigned problems: they are test questions.

I never had chem in hs and I did not take intro (not a good idea by the way). Although I feel with prior knowledge I would have done better, I feel I am learning A LOT!!! She explains REALLY well and helps EVERY time when asked. One can tell she enjoys her job and thats good! Great professor!!!

Her lectures are nothing inspiring, but she does try to have a sense of humor while doing them. The tests are very reasonable... only hard if you don't know the material. Her best ability really seems to be answering questions... she's incredibly helpful when you're having trouble with something. Very good prof.

Dr. James took over Dr. Ayub's Organic Chem courses. Very easy going. Give Organic a try. Don't be afraid. Work every problem in the book and make sure you understand the concepts of each chapter. No math involved like CHM 2. YOU MUST STUDY! Become one with your book. Read it like a novel. Don't be cheap. Buy the MUST HAVE solutions manual.

very knowledgeable on subject matter and tries to keep class interesting. very available if you need help and seems willing to work w/ students tho does not tolerate laziness. chem2 is easier if you've taken chem1 w/ her but still very doable. she's a good instructor; I'm glad I had a chance to take her. funny lady too.

Organic II makes Organic I seem easier than it was, I earned a B. In this course, expect to synthesize from start to end. MJ is the best. I had her for a four chem courses (with all B's.) If you can't learn from her, it's quite possible you would'nt make it at an university where the frankly don't care.

took her for 2045 snf 2046. Very good teacher and she makes it fun. You must put in the work, but she gives you the tool to get an A if you put in the time.

Currently taking this class. She is a great teacher. Very helpful, just need to ask. Makes chemistry fun. Very entertaining and uses real world analogies. You definitely have to study to make the grade. I spend a lot of time studying and my grade reflects it.

I took 2045 with some1 else.It was horrible.I got a B.Took it with her, it was fun,I got an A.Labs are easy, lectures are clear and energetic,HW is optional,and she tells you what else you need to know.I had one or two questions worded tricky,but, since I knew the material,they didn't throw me.Great Experience in a subject I hate!

Awesome professor.She's willing to work with you if you ask. Lectures aren't boring because she implements some humor to make it a bit more interesting. Doing the homework will help on the tests and quizzes, although it's not mandatory.

Professor is very witty and her lectures are engaging. Her tests are fair but some questions can be worded tricky. Her class is hard, and you must study because she does not believe in giving general ideas on what to study for. Warning, you will actually learn chemistry in her class. Not recommended for the lay student or faint of heart. Got an A!!

One of the most fun classes I've ever had (and I hate Chemistry). I really enjoyed her teaching style, energy, and her sense of humor. The only negative I have to say about her class is that the tests she gives are slightly harder than the homework in the book. But other than that, great class.

I took her for both Gen chem 1 and 2, shes awesome! Love her teaching style tells you exactly what to know for test. Labs are very easy and fun shes really laid back and like to have fun and learn. But definaetely puts emphasis on learning. She loves what she does and has SOOO much knowledge to share. TAKE HER you wont be dissapointed!

awsome professor. CHM 2 isnt easy in general so be prepared for the challange in her class. Great teaching tyle.Strongly recommend her if you are going to any professional studies (med, dent, opt, pharm, vet). she will prepare you for all tests (mcat, pcat, DAT, OAT). hard class, but will learn. an A isn't im possible,work hard to earn. good luck!

Okay here's the deal. Althought attendence on lecture days is not required, you need to go or you will miss important info to help you with this class. She is a great teacher and very funny, but this is not the easiest of material to learn, so my best advice is go to class, read your book, review your notes, & ask lots of questions. She is great!

She is great!!! it is really hard not to understand with her lectures... tests are not easy at all, go trough all your homework and in-class problems and you will be in good shape.

Chemistry in the summer is no easy task. But she is a great teacher, very clear on what she wants. Test are kinda hard, but she gives you tons of extra credit! Always willing to help and her lectures are filled with humor.. Take her! Shes really good!!!

Prof James is awesome. I took her for an 8 week chem 2 class and managed to get an A. If you study, pay attention in lecture, and do the extra credit you will get an A!

This class was super hard for me, I hate Chemistry, despise it actually. But this teacher wants everyone to pass and will give you all the help you need, she's great. I managed to get a B in the class. Attendance isn't mandatory but I suggest you go, you miss one day in here and you're lost for eternity.

Dr. James was an awesome professor! For a class I thought was going to be boring she sure keeps you laughing all the way through. I loved her teaching style. She sets you up for success! The absolute best professor a student could ask for!

Brilliant yet down to earth Chemistry professor. Quick to poke fun at herself, takes pressure off the class. Will explain, work with or otherwise try to help you til the end. Gives extra credit for exams. Group labs. Leads study groups to prepare for exams. Excellent professor!

Hard material 4 sure but James was a pretty good prof. She definatly had her mood swings tho. But even w/ her crabby days she was still a great prof & i'd take her again anyday. Just work really hard. I think she just gets frusterated explaining things that r easy to her but just takes a little longer to click for some students. leave cell in car!!

Prof James is very nice and very funny. Attendance is not mandatory and doesnt check homework. Pretty hard tests and multiple choice are out of a test bank although she says they are not. You have to read the book and do ALL the homework not just the suggested ones because there will be questions on the test that were not assigned on the homework

Prof James is a great instructor, but her exams are notoriously hard!!! She assigns all this HW, but you don't see any of that material n her tests. So, why bother with it if it doesn't help. A study guide before exams would be helpful since the tests cover more than one chapter. Just be sure to study about 20 hr/wk.

Prof James' course is by far the most difficult class I've ever taken in college. I squeaked by and it wasn't easy. I HAD TO study 20 hours a week + doing the time consuming HW and learning formulas and conepts! Do HW + notebook full of notes + formulas + dedication = Pass. Shes funny, approachable and very helpful (in office and over the phone)!

Chemistry II is a hard class. Prof. James is a good teacher who tries her best to get you to understand the material. That being said, if you don't devote the time that _you_ need to absorb everything, the tests will not be easy. Prof. James is very helpful, and devotes a ton of her own time to help students. Highly recommended.

Professor James is by far the best Chem teacher I have had. She is very clear when explaining the material. The class was challenging but doable.

James is a very nice person and is very laid back (which can bite you because you may slack off). Her lectures are pretty good. The problems lie in her hard tests and minute extra credit. Make sure you study your butt off.

Took Prof James for both Chem 1 and 2 and it boils down to this. If you're looking for an easy A, don't take her. If you're looking to actually learn chemistry because you're going to need it later she's the best. She was always willing to take time at her office to go over things I didn't understand. I took Dr. James for both CHM 2045C and CHM 2046C. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE HER! She is not easy per say, but she explains clearly and takes the time to help you with your questions if you visit her during office hours. Study, do homework, and take all the tests and quizzes, and you can get the A.

Professor James is an amazing professor who knows chemistry. Exams can be difficult so doing your homework is a must and her exams are not your ordinary test. I recommend her because you will learn chemistry....

She's not easy, but if you want to actually learn Chemistry and are willing to work you'll find no one better. She cares about your success and will help you every step of the way, but only if you're putting in effort.

Good chemistry professor. Like everyone says, she's not an easy A. 4 exams, labs each week, lab quizzes every couple of weeks and a tiny bit of extra credit. Do the homework, study for the lab quizzes and pass.

Mary is a great teacher. She cares that her students learn chemistry and walk away with the basic foundation they need to succeed in their higher level courses. Chemistry is not easy and requires studying. If you don't want to study, don't take chemistry. If you want a great chemistry teacher, you should take her.

Extremely knowledgeable and helpful professor. Will go beyond to help you succeed (including letting you finish your exam after everyone left). Clean instruction, clean guidelines, great presentation (she is really funny :). Loved her class! I think there are some youtube videos of her teaching, check them out to help you decide.

I took Ms. Mary James for a 7 week chem 1 class. She was very helpful and absolutely hilarious! I made an A in chem 1 but made a B in chem 2 even though it was a 12 week class. She goes over everything very clearly and is pretty laid back so it's a great learning environment for me. Not an easy professor at all, but you if want to learn, take her.

I love her. She is so funny, very down to earth, she loves teaching and she really knows what she's talking about. She's very easy to approach and super helpful. I fell in love with subject even more by being in her class. Her exams aren't easy but if you study, you'll do fine.

She is by far the best professor I have encountered, both at FSCJ and at FSU. She's funny, helpful, and really knows how to relay the information in a way you'll understand. You really do have to study though, she doesn't make it an easy A that's for sure, but she's very willing to help you out in any way that she can. Take her if you can!

Chemistry is a difficult class, be prepared to spend most of your time studying for this class. I would not take any other heavy classes in the same semester. Dr. James is super helpful and will respond to questions emailed to her in a timely manner. The tests are tough, be prepared! My only issue with this class is she writes very quickly.

There is a reason why she is the most highly recommended chemisty professor at FSCJ and many students from other universities come for her class. Not saying it is an easy A; however, if you put in the time you will get the grade you deserve and learn a lot while doing so! Shes a very fun professor both in lecture and in lab, with a lot of passion.!

Great professor. Always willing to help. Makes lecture fun while staying on track. She makes it a very fun semester that will fly by. Not an easy A, but definitely possible to earn an A. Most relaxed science course I have taken so far without sacrificing learning the material.

Dr. James is hands down the BEST chemistry teacher I have ever had. She is very passionate about chemistry and is a math machine. With that being said, if you do not study in this class you WILL fail. This is the first class I have taken that I was truly challenged and I enjoyed every bit of it. She offers extra credit and all taste are weighted.

Mary James is one of the more difficult Chemistry professors at FSCJ. I waltzed through Intro Chem and Chem 1, but her class made me work for it. Her class is difficult, but in a manner that prepares you for higher chemistry classes. I would recommend her if you plan to study Chemistry.

Dr. James throws many curveballs on the exams, which makes them tough no matter how well you prepare. Lectures are very thorough and Dr. James has high expectations of student's ability to demonstrate understanding. Although tests can be daunting, the grading is generous, with extra points and bonus work that will help boost your test grade.

She is very good at algebra, and uses direct examples to explain the computations required for the reactions used in this course. She's fantastic!! I took her 8 week class - totally doable, with a some time & effort. There were no lectures (we get together for lab & to go over homework), but she has prerecorded lectures available. I have NEVER had a teacher that cared so much about her students success! She's hysterical & committed. Would take her again in a second!!

Awesome Chem prof! Enthusiastic, funny, smart & lays the groundwk for anyone to do well. I always disliked Chem & as an adult student was very rusty. She is very clear in her expectations, very helpful when needed, lectures not mandatory but essential, extra credit galore, easy labs, do the hmwk problems for sure! If you fail, it's your own fault.

If you are willing to study, James is a great professor. 4 tests, a few possible bonus points for each test, straight-forward lab quizzes. Lowest test dropped. The lectures are easy to follow + she allows for questions to be heard. The labs are thorough.. can take up to an hr. No lab report but you kinda have to carefully execute it on your own.

Phenomenal teacher, absolutely the best I've had. She encourages participation in lecture, is very sweet and funny, grades her tests fairly (though you will need to study), and gives plenty of material to make sure you can pass the class. I think I'll miss her chemistry class the most. Wish all teachers were this nice and fun.

In order to succeed in her class, you must be prepared to immerse yourself in the material. (many hours studying) This is the hardest class I have taken thus far in my journey to become an engineer. However, you will come out of her class a person that knows way more about chemistry than maybe you even wanted. She is funny and super nice :)

One of the best chmeristy teachers I have ever taken. She teaches you a lot in the course. Chemistry is not easy you always have to work for it. So take this teacher and you won't regret it!!!!! There are 4 exams and drops your lowest. DOOOO THE HW TO PASS ALL HER TESTS. If you get comfortable with her exam key and the hw then your good.

Great instructor. Tells you what you need to know without making things more complex than they need to be for you to learn the process. Bonus questions can be turned in for points on the day of exams. No book needed. Study a bit and pay close attention during lectures and you will pass. Take her class; you wont regret it.

Dr. James is a great professor . Of course you have to do a lot of homework, of course you have to actually sit and study, but that's chemistry. She is easy going. Attendance on lectures is not required but it can be necessary if you are not "great" at chemistry. She does not do reviews before a test, but her test are easy if you do the Home work.

Chem 2 6-week course with her. Very helpful, just ask if you don't understand. Gives you optional homework, do it if you want to pass with a good grade. Bonus assignments 8 bonus points for EACH exam. Very descriptive, breaks down multiple problems on the board if you ask her. Lab attendance required, Lecture attendance not.

Dr. James is in incredible instructor. Chemistry is not an easy subject and she makes you work for it but if you have an adequate amount of "seat time" and study then you will be fine. If you are looking for an easy class to pass this is not the class for you.

A very material intensive class, but Dr. James makes it incredibly easy to understand and is HUGE on extra credit and LOVES questions you may ask. There's no way you'll fail this class unless you absolutely try to.

Dr. James is one of the few good science professors at FSCJ I was so blessed to have taken her for Gen Chem 1 and 2. Test are intense and if youre not planning on studying dont even bother taking her class. As long as you study and do the extra credit bonus for each exam there is no way you wont pass with an A.

Solid teacher, she tells you exactly whats expected and as long as you follow along and give some effort you'll be fine. Automatically receive 60% on quizzes if you attended lab the week prior, easy questions on her pop quizzes. Won't make you study something she thinks you don't need to know. Understand moles and stoichiometry and your set.

Best Chemistry Teacher! She makes learning chemistry fun and easy to learn. If you do her homework, I think youll be fine. Study her sample tests and I guarantee that youre going to get at least B or an A in each test, depending on how hard you study. Her lab is also interesting. I wish she teachers Orgo, I would take her any day.

I was lucky to have taken her for Gen Chem 1-2. She is the best professor I've had at FSCJ so far. I am not a math whiz at all but she breaks the material down in the most accessible ways. You need to come to labs and I would strongly recommend going to lectures, as you will learn exactly what will be on the exams. If she taught Orgo I would take!

She truly wants her students to be successful and work through the problem together which is a great, active way for students to learn as well. She's a very generous grader by my standard. Make sure you understand MasteringChem assignments before tests.

All I can say is that I love this woman. Honestly I wish I knew her outside of class too. She is extremely flexible, there when you need her, and never judges you based on where you are at in her class. Lecture attendance not mandatory. Her class is hard but she makes it 100% doable through her dedication to her students combined with your effort.

Took prof. James for Chem 1 & 2. Received a B I would take her again. Really prepares your for Organic Chem & wants you to do well but you HAVE TO TRY. Homework & study guides are keys to doing well. No lab reports, Drops the lowest test grade (excluding the final), flexible/understanding. Test are hard sometimes but fair. Work hard & you'll pass!

Professor James was amazing, her class is tough (given the topic is just hard in general) but she is one of the best professors I have had. She did the class online in 7 weeks due to COVID and was ALWAYS there to answer emails, do office hour zooms, help you with whatever you needed. She truly made such a hard class bearable.

Lectures were very clear and extremely informative. She spends some time explaining the material, but the majority is spent actually solving questions. Do the homework! She takes homework questions at the beginning of each class. She does take a LONG time to grade labs though. Very fun and just an all around delight. Best chem teacher I've ever had

I couldn't have asked for a better professor after coming off a 12-year hiatus from taking college courses. It had been roughly same amount of time since I had taken Chem 2045 so naturally I was apprehensive about taking this class on. Professor Mary was there for any question I had and facilitated my transition tremendously. Highly recommend

I took Professor James online due to Covid-19, which really stinks because aside from being a wonderful teacher, she is also a delightful human! She is a very fair grader and lays out in her lectures what she expects you to know when the test comes. Definitely one of my favorite teachers that I have ever taken. If you have the chance, take her!

I took Prof. James for Chem1 and Chem2. Chem 2 was basically the same as Chem1. Grade was 80% tests, 20% labs. 5 exams, lowest one is dropped. Optional homework. This class was hard. You will need to study hard and use any and all resources she gives you to do well. She is a great professor though.

The class was hard, but if you did the homework, went to lecture, watched the videos, did the practice exams, and practice, practice, practice... you will get a good grade. Show you are trying. Show you know what she is talking about- even if you're bad at math, and you will pass. If you're lazy...I suggest taking someone else.

Gave me the best foundation for future chemistry courses. She is super caring and really puts in the effort to help students. Her class is challenging, but she guides you and pushes you to succeed. DO HW IN BACK OF BOOK! This is how you will pass. Labs were challenging but not bad. Tests were hard, but she gives a practice exam, is very helpful.

Fantastic professor. ALL the topics from the LECTURE are on the EXAM. Attendance not mandatory but you will save yourself hours by studying what she taught rather than reading the book. Lectures are great and engaging. Homework is not mandatory, but it covers what she tests. Do the homework and you'll do great.

When I took this course, 80% of my grades were tests, including the final, and the other 20% were labs. There are 4 tests and a final exam. The lowest test grade is dropped. Tests cover about 2 chapters each and are thorough; however, she posts previous tests to Canvas so those help you study. Homework is optional but helps a lot with the tests.

Dr. James truly cares for her students & is an amazing professor. No lab reports, only quizzes 4 exams & 1 cumulative final. Exams are worth 60% & final is 20%. Professor James was such a caring person and I felt like she truly wanted the best for each student.
