classes are boring and dull
No Comments
funny! class is easy, just read notes, end of chapter reviews, online tests
Incredible teacher
too much material on exams but still a great teacher
I had Dr. Lockwood for 2 consecutive semesters, and she is a fine professor. She is very understanding, cooperative, and easy to understand. She is also a VERY liberal grader. (4 extra credit quizes and the lowest exam grade dropped!)
Excellent. Best I've had so far.
Good Prof
Dr. Lockwood is first and foremost very entertaining in class. It is a naturally difficult class, but she doesn't hesitate to teach things twice if there is mass confusion. Her grading system is also more than reasonable
I HATE science, but she made it more than bearable. Very happy and upbeat, and taught the material so it was easy to understand. She makes it hard to do bad in the class, and is very flexible.
Loves to give extra credit... gives practice exams and review sessions that make it impossible not to pass...
not to bad a class
Hard class but great professor!
Very difficult material, but overall good professor.
Great class and teacher. Almost impossible to get a bad grade!
Hard class but hilarious teacher. This class could be soo boring, but she is great and just says what on her mind.
Reads the slides word for word so it's pretty boring..the only reason I go to class is for the cps because that's how she takes attendance..but I heard she's easier than the other A&P professor.
Dr. Lockwood is one of those rare teachers/profs. She shows her immense knowledge by effortlessly explaining complex concepts and material. I never would have thought someone could teach A&P through comedy and storytelling, but she definitely pulls it off. Go to class for ExCred, focus on practice tests, PP slides, not so much the text. Great class
easy courses if ur either diligent in making it to class or focused when studying. personally, i found it unnecessary to go to class. all she does is reads right off the slides & CPS is just extra credit, not attendence. study practice exams that she posts and the worst u can get is C. have the CPS questions w/the prac exams, u'll do better!
Great teacher! Has funny anecdotes and one liners!
This class was very interesting. Prof. Lockwood is very intelligent and she uses very interesting examples to explain her slides. A study guide is given for the tests, and her grading system is very fair. The only downside is the lab that you must take.
Lockwood is really easy. She reads straight from the slides. I have not gone to any of her classes in the past 2 months and still get very high grades on the tests. Make sure to study the practice test and you will be fine. Lab stinks....
Such a terrific teacher! She's very funny, laid back and doesn't kill you with detail. There are 3 exams + final, and you can drop 1 exam. She gives extra credit q's at the end of each class which often show up on exams. She is the best prof I have ever had. I honestly can't say enough good things about her.
She is the most rude person I know. Calling mental retardation "dumbness" hardly qualifies as a good teaching lesson. She has no idea what she is talking about and instead reads from the slides...and butchers what they say. The only way to pass this class is to read the slides and teach yourself what they are talking about.
Really funny, but sometimes she says things a little out of line. As long as you know how to study for a test..you should be okay.
In my opinion Dr. Lockwood is an excellent teacher. Her knowledge of the human body just blows me away. To make her teaching effective, she uses the slides as a guide. I also found that what she explains in lecture is much harder than the tests. Like many ppl said, studying the practice tests can really help on most of the exams
She is a treasure. Very easy, and I learned TONS. Laid back and funny. Tests are straight forward. Very good at answering questions. I wish she taught more classes. She is the best person to take A+P with, hands down. Knows her stuff.
Dr. Lockwood is simply brilliant. Very sarcastic at times, but it makes her lectures hilarious. Tests are straight forward, do NOT worry if you don't understand the material in the book - focus on the slides. What she will test on can mostly be fond in the slides.
She is incredibly funny and always willing to help. Tests are always straightforward, but make sure you understand the material. As long as you pay attention to the lecture slides you will do fine.
AWESOME professor. She is so smart and can answer any question you have.
She is clearly very intelligent just doesn't teach the subject in the way to get students to understand.Goes through material too fast during lectures & tests are WAY too detailed. I have to read the book to understand the materials more because lecture isn't enough. I've had her for 2 semesters. wouldnt reccmend if you dont need it for ur major.
She is nice, and tries to be helpful, she is very smart. however her class is hard, her exams are hard, they are VERY detailed and not straightforward at all. Go to class (even though it is not very helpful) to get extra credit (CPS points) because you will need it at the end of the year.
she knows what she is talking about she just doesnt know how to teach it in an intersting manner and its very difficult to understand. use your interactive physiology cdrom that comes with ur book and youll be set
Shes sweet, classes are mad easy, go to the end of class to get the cps points, also if u can get a handle on some exams from years past, the questions are almost identical
She is very hard to understand. She knows what she is talking about but she doesn't know how to teach it to other people. In my opinion she is a bad teacher.
hard class. so much information to retain. she's super smart but is not good at teaching the material. go to class, she uses examples that can be helpful to remembering certain things. her exams are really hard because there is just so much information and terms to study and remember. don't take the class unless you need it!
It is a very difficult class. She's a nice person, but teaches off the impossible slides. Just rewrite your own notes and go to her office hours as often as you can. Go to class and write every CPS question, they are always on the exam.
Really knows what she's talking about. She makes good connections and gives good examples, but she teaches SO quickly. Your best bet is to bring a laptop and to take notes directly on the slides she posts on blackboard. The book is helpful, everything else that comes with it is rarely used. Helpful for health majors.. you'll really know your stuff.
Lockwood knows her stuff but is extremely hard to understand. She is almost too smart for her own good. Lectures are useless to go to except for the cps questions. Write down all the questions and answers for the cps because they will appear identical on the tests. Tests are too detailed so know your stuff.
MK Lockwood is a very intelligent lady! She does teach very fast but as long as you read the chapters and listen in class you will do fine. Although she gives you the outlines online it helped me alot to recopy them into my notebook just because there is SO much information...writing it helps you remember some of it. She is really nice I enjoyed he
She is one of the worst teachers i have ever had. She goes insanely fast your definiatly in for a shock as a freshman....the tests are easy but only if you get your hands on ones from the previous years.
I have never been more discouraged by a professor. She just speeds through the lectures so she can keep up with the syllabus. Lectures are pointless unless you want the minimal amount of extra credit from the CPS questions. Tests aren't too bad, but I taught myself out of the book. Oh, and "bonus" questions somehow count against you.
Ok seriously her lectures are not rocket science. Write down what she says that is NOT already on the slides, study it, get an A. I got an A on every single exam and it really wasn't that hard there are a lot of much worse professors at UNH. If you think this class is hard then you should try taking some other hard classes for a wake up call
She knows what she is talking about that's for sure. Goes extremely fast. I had a hard time with that first semester but what I did (and it sounds like a lot of work) but hand write all the slides and as she reads them write little notes on her comments. Now I have an A in the class, trust me you can't follow along while writing what is on the board
Extremely fast, but very helpful. Go to office hours, she is willing to help you determine what you need to know for exams. SHe understands that it is a lot of information and knows there is no way to test you on it. Once you determine the main points and what she wants you to know, then the class will seem a lot less challenging.
difficult to stay engaged during class when she turns the lights off. gives an incredible amount of material in such little time. study in groups, use your textbook, and the mastering a+p online questions. go to office hours if you dont understand something. dont take if this is not for your major-- its very time consuming and challenging.
this class is very difficult. she teaches very quickly. best bet for tests is to write down the questions from the mastering a&p site, she literally takes all her questions from that site. GO TO CLASS, you dont need to take notes, but just listen to her, very helpful
Hard class, very time consuming. I wouldn't recom
A lot of information to absorb. I wouldn't recommend taking this class with another science course. It's hard, but going to class helps understand it. She is also great if you visit her during office hours. Don't fall back on your reading.
Hard class, but if you read the book and go to office hours, you will do fine. She is very helpful. She will do everything she can to help, especially in lab. We changed professors this semester, and the new one is horrible.
Shes really nice, and compared to the new professor we have now, she says exactly what to study for for the exams. Office hours definitely help. I miss her as an anatomy professor. 85% of the questions on the exams were taken right of mastering a and p.
I don't recommend taking this class, it's not a joke class anymore. It's more of an anatomy and physiology class. She focuses on yelling at students rather than teaching- her tests have nothing to do with the powerpoint slides given. you basically need to memorize the book.
She is the worst professor I have had at UNH. This class is much more geared towards A&P than basic nutrition - not advisable as gen ed. She is extremely rude in emails and has poor communication skills. She doesn't know how to relate to students or teach the material or make relevant exams. UGH! Just terrible.
This was not a difficult class. She basically reads material off the slides, but take notes and you will do fine. Get the tests from the year before because a lot of the questions are similar and make a great study guide.
Professor Lockwood is by far one of the best and most knowledgable teachers at UNH. She is kind and has a sense of humor. She tells you what you need to know in her powerpoints and connects concepts from many avenues of health sciences. If you go to class you will do just fine on exams, given you study a little too.
I have no idea what some of these people are talking about. top 3 worst teacher i've ever had. never used the $300 book i bought, tests were impossible and SO detailed..couldn't really even study for them because it was pointless. only good part of the class is you get to drop a test and you get clicker points. goes so fast through slides.
She is very knowledgable but she is horrible at communicating with students. You have to purchase a book that she wrote, clinical correlates...talk about self-serving. suggestion for you, just borrow it..it's not worth buying. Almost all the exam questions are taken from the online book quizzes, just a heads up.
Lockwood is too smart for her own good. She understands her field of expertise so well she can't understand how students don't learn it at the pace she teaches it. Don't bother taking notes in class, the material goes to fast. Go to class and then take notes on the powerpoint slides she puts on blackboard. Tests are HARD. goodluck.
Mary Lockwood is one of the best professors i've had at UNH. Her tests are a breeze (if you study) and she is extremely friendly and humorous.
Was ready for clicker questions & using old tests to study then BAM! she decides to record lectures and post them online, no clickers, hw is all online and SUPER hard since sometimes the program won't understand your answers. HW questions are text questions so study those! Class got 100 times harder than what my friends told me.
Lockwood is an excellent teacher. She is so knowledgable, and tries to make Anatomy and physiology understandable. Study the mastering a&p questions for each exam, and you'll do very well- almost all the questions come from there. Probably my favorite class this semester.
I found her class to be extremely difficult, but if you put in a lot of hard work you can get a good grade.
Nice, funny professor who uses Tegrity to record lectures. The exams are super-easy if you review the Tegrity videos, plus a lot of the test questions come from Mastering A&P. Haven't gotten below a 92 on an exam and I have skipped a lot of lectures. She does everything she can to be fair to students and help them succeed.
Professor Lockwood is very knowledgable about her subject. At some times she goes very fast through the powerpoints because of this but she posts her lectures and the powerpoints online so that students can look at them again. Although she is a difficult teacher it is definitely possible to do well in her class with the right amount of studying.
Lockwood is funny and enthusiastic and knows her stuff. She gives you the opportunity to succeed, but might require opening the book once in a while (who would have thought, right?). Overall great class to take. The lab really prepares you well for future anatomical classes.
Lockwood speaks clearly, gives really good examples and records her lectures so you could watch them later (or skip class and sit in your bed watching them. It's a tough class, but she is a great professor.
Really awesome prof. Quite humorous during lectures. Let's you know exactly what you need to know for exams and will help you w/ material if you to office hours. Tests are not hard at all... assuming you study a bit of course. Very good anatomy prof!
She moves a little quickly, but makes everything clear as day.
Fun class
Gotta say, not a fan. I loved anatomy in high school but it is so much harder in her class. Exams are hard & have way too much info/ detail on them. She moves way too fast through the lectures, is boring and monotone to listen to and comes off as aarogant with her language used.she is smart but cant dumb herself down to be a good teacher at all
Class was not an easy A. She posts all the powerpoints online as well as tegridy lectures. replaces lowest grade with home work grade. Good professor in general
Easy class if you do the Mastering A&P homework as literally every test question is copy and pasted from it. 3 tests, lowest score replaced with homework grade. No need to go to lecture since she records everything on Tegrity
Not a good professor at all. She doesn't really care about the class or students. I learned nothing because all I studied was homework question... And shes the worst when it comes to communicating. Good luck with this annoying lady
Going to class is pointless because she goes way too fast. If you watch the lectures online you can pause and take notes at your own pace. Just study the homework questions on Mastering A&P and you'll do fine on the tests. The labs are pointless but you have to attend. Study hard for the lab practicals.
She is an awesome professor. She gives you a lot of information but she wants her students to excel more than anything. She's super helpful outside of class and will give you plenty of chances to improve your grade. Sweetest woman!
If you study the MAP questions, you'll do fine in the class. The lab quizzes aren't bad, but the practicals are hard and can bring down your grade. As far as Lockwood as a person, she's not nice, she's rude, and could care less about her students. If you go to her class, you'll end up over whelmed with the course material because she flies through.
This professor is rude and unprofessional. The TA's are pretty good and make the class a little easier. You'll have better luck taking this course at another college over the summer or during jterm.
One of the worst professor at UNH. She is extremely rude and arrogant. In her emails she is very unprofessional and extremely unhelpful. Don't bother going to her for help. She will give a rude response. I love anatomy until I had her. I taught myself everything by watching the lectures and doing the homework.
Such an awful person. Unreasonable to an extreme. She sent an email around saying that if you email her with a question she has ever answered she will take points from your exam grade.
Extremely easy class if you study the mastering A & P questions online. Lockwood was not helpful if you sent an email asking her a question. Her final exam had errors in it that messed a lot of students up. Seems to not care much about her students. But a fairly easy class if you stay on top of your work.
I am a nerd when it comes to sciences. I live for them. I am required to take this class but I absolutely hate her exams. I remained one of the highest scores in practicals but I am just not the type to memorize questions from MA&P. I was eager to actually learn not retain and flush out useless quiz questions. Be prepared to memorize a lot.
I have to take anatomy for my major, and I despise this class. She goes so fast in lecture, and doesn't explain things very clear. For someone who hasn't taken chemistry in a few years, it's very confusing. Her tests have a lot of spelling mistakes, which confuse me. The times i've talked to her, shes been very snippy. Wouldn't suggest this class..
If you do the online homework, you will do well on the tests, but be prepared to memorize all of the homework answers. I wish I was learning in this class but I am really just learning how to memorize multiple choice answers
Lockwood knows her stuff. She demands respect, which I never had a problem with. She's funny and her lectures are unbelievably helpful, but she does speed through them. Prepare for the class ahead of time, attend lectures, do the mastering a&p and the clinical correlates and you'll be perfectly fine. One of my favorite professors.
The test are mostly from mastering A&P, the online work. She rewords the test and tries to trick you. You do not need the text book at all.
Professor Lockwood is a nice enough lady but she has ruined A&P for me. Her method of teaching is seriously lacking. She speeds through lectures so there is no way to take notes. The homework is over 100 online multiple choice questions every Friday that in no way enhance ones understanding of the subject. The labs are the same as the homework.
Had to take the class for my major and couldn't tell you the first thing about anatomy. But ask me an online homework question and I'll know if it's abc or d. The tests were all online homework questions so I was too busy memorizing them to actually learn. I just don't like the set up of this course and each test had countless errors
Most people can't avoid this class, but you honestly do not have to go to class to pass. She posts the lectures online for you to watch. Work hard on the mastering A&P if you have a tough time on the tests. Take notes, study, go to her office hours, and ask your lab TAs questions! Her final study guide is a disaster. Just start on it ASAP.
Because of the big lecture, it is every man for himself, which is not always a bad thing. She posts all of her lectures on Tegrity, and a good chunk of the exam questions come directly from the Mastering AP homework assignments (which unfortunately is about 100 questions per week...) The labs are a complete waste of time. Never went to lecture.
This class was an absolute nightmare. Lab was awful and useless. Lecture was not mandatory and posted on tegrity so I did not go to many of them. Tests are extremely difficult, weekly mastering a&p and clinical correlates homework. Was easily the hardest class I have taken. On the other hand, Lockwood is very nice and absolutely hysterical in class
Probably my favorite professor at UNH. She's actually really funny and a really nice person. It's a HUGE lecture, so she doesn't answer questions in class. But if you meet up with her during office hours she's super helpful and nice. Labs are so easy. Tests are hard, but 99% of questions are from the MAP homework. LOVE MKL.
THIS POST WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE: I took BMS 507/508, do NOT buy the package for nearly $450 that she offers. ALL YOU NEED is the lab manual, the 2 online course codes, and I suggest the clinical correlates book. THATS IT. Textbook isnt necessary, neither is the atlas. Lecture is pointless, test questions come from homework, lab practicals are HARD.
I love Lockwood she puts everything you need to know on the slides though you might need to look up definitions. Quiz every monday but they aren't too difficult.
Lockwood is funny and knows what shes talking about. Lectures are posted on tegrity but going to class and listening to them is much more helpful, the clinical correlates book can add 5 points to your OVERALL GRADE so its definitely worth the $30
It's unfortunate that so many people complain about her. Not only are her lectures informative and hilarious, they're posted on Tegrity, so you can re-watch them whenever you want. Tests are relevant to the material. She is the real MVP. I recommend (not that there's any other professor for BMS 507/508 anyway).
Lockwood is one of the best professors I have ever had. Her lectures can get boring, but you do need to put an outside effort to get a good grade in the class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but students who do go to class end up with higher grades. She offers a lot of extra credit and is very funny in class. She is kind and always willing to help.
It is wise to speak to her like she is worthy of more respect than the Queen of England. Do you think there's no such thing as a bad question? Well, there is in her eyes. She rarely answers questions in a helpful way. She is very knowledgeable, but teaching is clearly not her passion. She really seems to detest teacher-student interactions.
Lockwood is a very nice lady who is teaching tough material. Put in the time and effort and you still might not do as well ask you like but you will not fail. She recognizes the hard work her students do and accounts for a reflection of that into their grades.
Professor Lockwood seems like a really nice person don't get me wrong, but her exams are extremely difficult. The questions are all so specific and difficult. The grade savers for this lab are the lab and extra credit. MAKE SURE TO DO CLINICAL CORRELATES! It makes a big difference come finals time!
While Lockwood had a great sense of humor, her tests killed everything. Although the lectures are not required, they should be because you learn a lot from them. The exams are extremely hard, I studied a long time for every single one of them, and I failed every single one of them and managed coming out of the course with a C (thankfully!).
Tips: -Take notes ON YOUR LAPTOP (she talks fast) of what she SAYS (not the slides) She only tests on things she talks about in class. Little details matter! -Don't study MAP. She doesn't use those as tests anymore -If there is a graph/chart in the book and she talked about it in class, STUDY IT Know it inside and out. Most tests come from here
Overall, I really liked her. I would read the textbook and watch Tegrity to do well on tests. Although, I will admit that the tests can be tricky, so read and memorize EVERYTHING. It's a lot of work, but it pays off. Pro Tip: MAP assignments are usually on Quizlet.
Funny and makes topics more understandable
She's really funny but she goes through material quick. I don't read the textbook and just read over the slides before the exam and do fine. Practicals in lab are hard but the physiology lab is easy.
Enjoys teaching the subject. Talks fast during lectures and offers extra credit. Keep doing mastering a+p, but don't study mastering does not use those tests anymore.
She was hilarious and extremely knowledgeable about the topic. Always willing to help students out and provides many opportunities to study and get extra credit. Go to lectures around thanksgiving and halloween, you'll get extra credit!!
difficult exams. gives so many homework questions per week its overwhelming. shes the only anatomy teacher though. only take this class if you need to for your major
Dr. Lockwood teaches a tough course. The curriculum for anatomy in itself is not easy. Dr. Lockwood is absolutely hilarious in many ways. I would easily take 100 more classes with her. Yes the material is tough, but she is always willing to take her entire day and help you out. She tells endless stories to make the lecture interesting.
Professor Lockwood teaches a difficult course, but is willing to help students out. Lab practicals are hard and exams are tricky. The material is tough but she makes it entertaining. Extra credit is given the day before Thanksgiving.
Essential to either go to lecture or watch the tegrity online to pass the exams she talks very fast I have to type my notes. Exams are a lot of material but not terrible if you prepare in advance not too bad. Take advantage of the clinical correlates extra credit, very easy to do.
Hard class but she is willing to work with you. 508 is a lot harder than 507. She gives extra credit with clinical correlates, and for going to class the day before Thanksgiving and spring breaks.
This is a tough class, but very interesting. I've learned a ton in the class. Definitely buy the clinical correlates book, easy to do and adds 5% to your FINAL GRADE which is huge. Homework takes a long time, but all the answers are on quizlet. I think I've been to class 5 times this whole year and got an A first semester.
I took Anatomy and Physiology in H.S so I didn't think this class was that bad. There are three exams (you can drop one) and a final and then online homework so there isn't a ton of assignments. However, she does offer extra credit and it can bring your grade up a ton. You don't have to go to class but if you don't, watch the online lectures.
She is super funny and makes the lectures entertaining! The tests can be difficult, but if you study you'll be fine. I will say that this class is quite expensive with all the materials you need, but if you're taking anatomy it's probably because you have to.
Good class, she's funny during lectures, just make sure you don't talk or she'll call you out in front of everybody. Fair exams, lectures are kindof boring but attendance isn't mandatory and the lectures are all posted online so its up to you if you go or not.
Prof. Lockwood is a very good lecturer! Only 3 exams a semester plus the final. She offers extra credit which I would definitely take advantage of! Also, she posts all her lectures online so you can skip if you need to!! She talks very fast so in lecture it's a good idea just to listen and not take notes. Would definitely take this class again!
Class is recorded and posted online, only showed up for tests and did fine. Exams are very hard but quizlet has many questions that are exact. Online homework takes a long time, but answers can be found in textbook and quizlet verbatum. Lab is a waste of time but you gotta go. Practicals are tough, study everything from lab. She is kinda rude
This class was very hard. Each chapter has a powerpoint with 100+ slides... how does she expect us to remember all of that for her difficult and detailed tests? She is a pretty boring lecturer and just reads straight from the powerpoint. Do not take this class unless you need to.
Lockwood's class is incredibly tough, covering a LOT of information in a short amount of time. Independent studying is a must-have skill. Doing the homework assignments is crucial to learning the material. Lockwood is very good, considering the speed at which she must cover material. She's humorous and always welcomes questions after class.
DO NOT SKIP LECTURE
Very knowledgeable and approachable but tries to cram too many slides into one class worth of a powerpoint... too fast to take notes. Read the textbook on your own. STUDY A LOT. She is the only teacher currently that teaches the anatomy lectures.
All her lectures are online so stopped going to class the first week and managed to do just fine. If you do go to class, just listen, don't take notes you will easily get confused. That being said, she's still a great teacher and gives you many ways to boost your grade. Do the EC & do well in lab and your bad test scores won't matter as much
She is a great teacher and generally cares about her students. You get to drop an exam grade at the end of the semester is clutch considering the tests are really hard. The final exam is problem the easiest exam you'll take because she outlines the majority of it. Lots of online homework and studying in order to pass. Overall great experience
This class isn't that bad if you really put in the effort. You don't have to go to any lectures, she posts them all online. There can be a lot of online homework. She calculates the grades at the end of the semester and it ends up being way higher than what you see in canvas and there's extra credit.
Dr. Lockwood's a fabulous professor. I'm not kidding, folks. A lot of people come on here to praise a bad professor and make others suffer too, but this is real and sincere. Don't let her one-worded email replies fool you, she's a fabulous instructor who loves what she does and is incredibly sweet. If you respect her, she'll respect you. 10/10
Lectures are recorded and posted to canvas, she reads directly from the powerpoint but she'll explain things further so actually listen to her during lecture. Do well in lab because its part of your overall grade, she drops your lowest test grade, and gives you a bunch of extra credit to help bring grades up
dont take this class unless you need to. She crams way too much into lectures so don't skip them. Pretty lecture-heavy class and the book is way too expensive.
Lockwood is so funny and exceptional at making students feel comfortable in the class. This course is P/F, so you just need to show up and do the minimalistic to get an A. It really is beneficial and necessary for anyone going into a medical profession. TAKE THIS COURSE
Lectures are posted on canvas every day, very few things are graded thru the whole semester. A few exams, homework, and lab. She mostly reads off the PowerPoint but adds a bit if you just sit to listen/take notes. Super nice and accessible outside class, will help you out if you do your part.
A&P is hard, but I think she does a great job with the material. Sometimes lectures seem pointless but going to them really helps in the long run, even if you just zoom in. Homework is due every Friday, don't get behind on it because she replaces your lowest exam grade with homework grade. Attendance is option but go to class if you want to do well
Good professor, she just goes through the slides so fast because there is so much material. You'll likely have to re-read ppts after class. Offered a zoom option, so attendance wasn't mandatory. Weekly practice problems to help you learn, very useful. Exams are very difficult if you don't study! Lots of material in a short time. Good class overall
