Everything was great about her class except group work and the yellow flashcards. She presented the information very clearly and her tests had no surprises/tricky questions.
Class was constantly behind labs. Analogy focus was poor and made things annoying. Many concepts were made more confusing by her teaching methods. Tests did not reflect lecture emphasis or textbook examples.
good personality, keeps you awake. the textbook she uses is horrible, had to figure out how to do problems myself. quizes arent too bad. exams are.... ehhh. got a B in the class.
She was the best teacher i have ever had at UNLV and I am now a senior. She holds everyone's attention the whole time and explains all problems in great detail. If you think she's hard, you're gonna have alot of problems at UNLV.
The best professor I have ever had. She is very clear, always willing to help, and on top of her game- she really is! Ignore all negative comments that you see on her from this page. If you ever need help on something, just ask and she will help you 100%
The best teacher ever, her methods make even the most complicated concepts easy. Also, she gives alot of opportunities to bring your grade up, and her tests are very easy. I didn't study chem because of my bio with Rogers, and i still got Bs on the first two exams.
Dr. O does a great job of bridging a high school style educator with a great college professor. She isn't afraid to use things like mnemonics and patterns to teach dificult concepts. In class group tests and weekly online tests are the norm. If you go regularly and are awake you'll get an A.
Very good professor. Makes chemistry easier, and more importantly, interesting. No homework collected; just reading and practicing for your own benefit. Group quizzes and weekly online quizzes are easy and good for boosting your grade. Tests are fair and not overly difficult.
Study, listen, and do what students should do and youll do well. She gives helpfull problems for tests.
Her class was VERY easy. Her tests were easy as long as you study your notes and do her practice problems. Online quizzes are easy because you can ask her for help on the discussion board. She will replace one of your bad test grades with your final exam grade if it's higher. Great class but at times I feel like I'm back in HS.
good teacher
she is an aswome teacher!!! she is very helpful so just see her during office hours.
i seriously loved her. I always had trouble with chemistry, but she made it so much easier. Yes, she went into detail at a times over simple things, but believe me it was very helpful. As long as you do the work, u will be sure to get an A.
excellent professor
Best teacher yet! Too bad she doesn't teach 122 because she should! For as much as chemisty is NOT interesting to me in the slightest, i loved this class. She was so nice and willing to help and made my freshmen year a little less stressful! She was great
Very nice! VERY helpful!! Always smiling, you can tell she enjoys teaching. I've only had her for 2 weeks and she's my favorite!! She's willing to help you out whenever you need it!!
She is the best. She expects you to work for your grade, but she is more than fair and goes out of her way to ensure her students understand chem. I pray she continues to teach 121 and Org Chem in the future. Take her class if you take Chem!! Her lectures are clear and concise and she provides a ton of study material and practice probs.
Class was a little difficult but she made it easier to learn. She is always open for questions and very helpful when giving you test information.
Best teacher ever. I loved her!
great teacher! very willing to help.
I never thought I'd take a prep chem class, but I'm glad I did. She makes it super fun, eases the transition between highschool and college, while still being professional. She's a genius and very helpful and helps with our weekly quizzes. If you don't practice, you don't do well, but she makes you do tons of group practice in class. TAKE HER!!!
Dr. Orgill is the best. She's very fair and very intelligent. If you really want to learn chemistry, NO professor will do a better job. She doesnt give grades though, you MUST earn them.
Ugh, can she get any more childish? Sure she's smart, but come on..singing songs during class? PLEASE. I did not enjoy this class at all.
not very helpful or encouraging!
Dr. Orgil Rocks! Those who complain about her class are stupid. She makes a hard class simple by relating the material to everyday things. She is ALWAYS available for help. Man I don't remember how many times I would as her for help when she was busy and she would drop what she was doing just to help me. Her notes are VERY clear, same as the tests!
A GREAT teacher, I can't say enough about her. She is always there to help and enjoys having you visit her. She made things clear and fun. I recommend her for any chem. class.
Dr. Orgill is an awsome teacher. I would take her again for any class. She makes the material very easy to understand and her tests are easy as long as you review your notes. I got a D the first time I took this class with another teacher but I got an A when I took it with Orgill.
Very helpful, although a new teacher she knows what she is doing. If you need a good refresher for chemistry or are just interested then I suggest her. She is always willing to help and encourages you to come to her for office for help, she has free chocolate!! Tests are easy, quizes are fair as is the final. Overall nice and awesome teacher!
I took her Spring 06 and was amazed by how well she teached. I even actually leraned from her class! If you have the opp. take her class now before you can't.
Best teacher at UNLV!
She is the best chem teacher at UNLV!!! She always helps people online and in class and her lectures are very clear. If i were you i would take her.
She is the ONE you wanna take. The best teacher ever. I've taken chem103 and chem 121 from her and it was great!! Personally, I didn't need a text book and got A as long as you go to every class. Make SURE you print the lacture notes before the classes.
THE best professor I have ever had. Absolutely organized. Takes a boring subject and makes it interesting and easy to understand. Always available for help either online or in her office. Amiable and always smiling. Very approachable. I wish she was teaching 122! Definitely print out the lecture notes and follow along. She is GREAT!
Best prof. in the chem department! Had her for 103 and took her for 121. If you want a prof. who is clear, understands that chem is hard to learn, well organized, has HELPFUL study guides and can print out fill in powerpoint notes, takes time out of her way to give you extra help, etc, etc, etc,... sign up for her class now before she you can't.
A lot of information, but she makes it easier to understand and retain most, if not all, of it. There's quite a few unpredictable group quizzes, so being in class is a good idea. The problems she gives at the beginning of each class also help a lot. Definitely recommend this professor.
awesome professor!!!!!! very helpful, great at explaining the material!!!!!!
She was the best teacher I have ever had!
Great teacher, very helpful. Material is kind of hard and it takes a lot of work to get used to it, but its chemistry, not expected to be easy. Take her class.
Orgill is a very smart person who is willing to help anyone until the studens can understand the material that she is covering
she knows how to make a hard and boring class seem easy..
Very easy. Her lectures are incredibly straightforward. If you do the study guides you're almost guaranteed an A. Download & fill out the lecture notes! There are weekly quizzes but there are make up ones if you screw up. Very helpful and easy to understand. I HIGHLY recommend her if you want to learn and get an A at the same time.
Prof. Orgill is the professor to take if you are looking to gain a better understanding of chemistry and still having the real opportunity to earn an "A". Her lectures are covered in powerpoints that you can print from online and there are weekly quizzes. If you get below an 80% though, you can retake it for a better grade. Study for the exams.
Dr. O is the sweetest lady ever. She is always willing to help. But it is a lot of work! A lot of math and weekly online quizzes. I studied more in this class than my other classes. I passed without buying the book. I guess if you try you'll get a decent grade. And it's better if you show up for class.
Great professor. Before this class, i did not like or understand chemistry. She clarifies things and does an incredible job at teaching chem. You do have to study for this class though.
She makes a hard subject seem easy. If you can take this professor for whatever class she is teaching. The test weren?t hard at all and the online quizzes were easy. You get a week to work on them and can go back and change answers at any time and if you get below an 80% then you can retake the quiz.
She is an AWESOME TEACHER! She really understands the material and is able to explain it on an understandable level! Attendance is pretty mandatory with the group quizes. If you attend class, and take notes, you wont even need to open your book! Thats how fantastic she is!!! =]
Dr. Orgill is an awesome professor. She made chemistry seem so easy, and our class averages on tests were pretty high. She's really into helping her students understand the material, and bribes her class to come to office hours with candy. Seriously the sweetest professor I've had so far.
She is a very helpful professor. She really wants you to learn and she is always there for you if you need any help. She has 4 exams, weekly online quizes, group quizes. IF you do the recommended practice problems in the book (on her syllabus) and the posted problems on webcampus you will Ace the class. She is very fair and I wish she taught al
I took Chem 103 and 121 with Professor Orgill because she is an amazing teacher. I am so glad that I got to have her in 103. She makes chemistry seem extremely easy and she pretty much gives you everything you need to pass her tests. Tons of practice problems and her study guides are the lecture notes we go through in class. I highly recommend her.
Definitely the best professor I have ever had the privelage to lean from. She has a very strong desire for you to pass by making enldless resources available to you. It really is unfortunate she does not teach o chem, or every other class for that matter. She puts other professors to shame. Just pay attention, take notes, and enjoy your A.
Bottom line, best teacher I've ever had in college. Didnt even buy the book for 103 or 121 and got an A because her notes were so clear.
She really cares about her students! She's organized, optimistic, and very fair. It's chemistry, so of course the material is going to be somewhat challenging no matter what professor you take. But she was EXTREMELY helpful to a lot of students.
She is awesome. Best teacher I've ever had.
This Teacher is amazing! She goes into full detail about every topic and makes sure the student understands. She explains the powerpoints and the practice problems she posts are very helpful when preparing for the tests. If you study her tests will be easy. Overall I felt that I understood the subject better because she taught the class
Great professor! BEST chem teacher at UNLV. She is helpful and gives out candy if you visit her during office hours. The lectures are interactive and clear to the point. Chem 122 is easier than 121, but you will still have to work hard to get the A. No curve, and is very strict about the grade cut offs.
MARY KAY ORGILL, YOU ARE A CHEMISTRY GODDESS!!!!
Professor Orgill makes chemistry easy to learn. If you go to the lectures, you will do great on the exams! If you don't... you might not do so good. But go to class! She makes it fun, so you want to be there. If you can choose your professor for 122, take her class!
The best professor I have ever had. Excellent PowerPoints, notes and teaching style. Tests are difficult but she tells you what you need to know. Lots of opportunity for grade improvement in the form of group and out-of-class quizzes. I cannot recommend this professor enough!
GREAT teacher. She provides so much help. She sets up discussion boards on her website and is willing to help you. Do Practice Problems, it will make her exams seem easy. I highly recommend her for Chem 122. Plus, she is always in a happy mood. There is never a dull moment in her class.
she's awesome. i loved her!! VERY good teacher. helpful and wants you to do well.
Great professor, really cares about teaching and making sure you learn the material.
Coming out from high school AP Chem class, I would say that Dr. Orgill is THE BEST! She explains it in a way that can be easily understood by every students. She gives out extra credit for the pre-class problems. And random group quizzes. Even though I'm not required to take the exams, I still go to her lecture for more understanding. Awesome prof!
I was nervous to take this class because I had never taken chem before. Dr. O showed interesting ways to learn the difficult material and always encouraged questions/in-class interactions. If you don't get something, go to her office hours! She's interested in helping you learn and always has treats :)
She is awesome! Take her class if given the opportunity. She is crystal clear in everything she says and exams/homework/quizzes are not ridiculously difficult. Show up to class, participate, ask questions if needed and you'll pass.
This wasn't my favorite subject but Dr. Orgill managed to make it (almost) painless. She's a great teacher, very helpful in every way, and the fastest grader I have ever seen. Nothing but positives for this professor.
What a wonderful professor. She's very clear in her lectures and what she wants you to know for exams. The class is no breeze through the park, but she practically makes it painless with everything she provides to help you succeed. Highly recommended!
Dr. Orgill is an excellent professor. She is passionate about the subject and explains concepts clearly. She wants students to succeed and constantly hints to concepts that will be on the exam. She is also very funny and incorporates quirky examples into her lectures. If you study the lecture notes you will get a good grade on her exams.
Amazing teacher. Her lectures are super clear, and they mirror what is going to be on the tests. She's always available for office hours, too. Don't take this as the class being a cake walk, however. You need to do the practice problems she assigns if you want to do well, but otherwise, fairly easy and painless class.
Dr. Orgill is absolutely the best science professor I've had! She has this cheer and light to her smile, and is very clear in her explanations. I really enjoyed her teaching style and her helpfulness when I don't fully understand the concepts. I definitely recommend!
Orgill makes the class super easy to understand and fills in the PowerPoints with the class. If you print out the slides and go to lecture you will pass! Do the extra problems she posts on Webcampus and the tests will be easy! Didn't use textbook much but probably would have only benefited more from it.
Dr. O is just as awesome in this class as in 121. Be aware: all the exams are written (no more M/C) and her and her graders are much tougher. Less chapters so the amount that you have to know have to do is tougher. Keep up, do the practice problems and hw, and you'll get an A no problem.
Dr. O is awesome. The tests are written, but just answer the questions EXACTLY like how she teaches them to you, and you'll get an A.
I had Orgill for 121 and 122, and I'm glad to have gotten her. She gives you all the tools you need to succeed. She is very flexible since she is readily available to help you online or during office hours. The only thing I didn't like was that her exams in 122 were all short answers unlike 121 with multiple choice and short answer.
I took Orgill for Chem 121 and 122! It was the smartest choice I ever made. She is an amazing professor and does everything she can to help you succeed. Her notes are broken down so that the material is easier to understand! I wish she taught O-Chem!
Dr Orgill likes to tell you why you are wrong. She genuinely enjoys it. She states she wants you to really understand the "process" and not memorize everything. Her tests are essentially how well you memorized what she said. No "understanding" involved. Regurgitate what she says in class EXACTLY how she says it on exams and you'll get an A.
Dr. Orgill is one of the best professors I have had at UNLV! She wants you to truly understand the material rather than simply memorizing it. With that being said, she is a tough grader She is looking for a considerable amount of detail with certain topics so it is to your advantage to go to her office hours and talk through the material.
One criticism was the lack of respect for our own logic. I found myself memorizing explanations rather than using my knowledge to explain processes. However, Dr. Orgill is so good that she took me from like a B ish student to an A student just by being an amazing lecturer and overall great teacher. Would definitely recommend!
The level of detail she wants on her exams are ridiculous. Whoever said that this is a class in which you really have to memorize her explanations is correct; there is zero room for error because one small, completely irrelevant detail missing is enough to make you bomb a question.
This is not an easy A. The material itself is not difficult, but she is a VERY tough grader. She expects you to memorize incredibly specific details. She is a fantastic lecturer, and she is available in office hours to help you. You will not do well if you skip class. Take notes, record her lectures, and ask her to clarify if you have questions.
Dr. Orgill is hands down one of the best instructors that I've had. She tests on what she has taught, never throwing a huge curveball out there but definitely asking students to apply what they know to figure out a problem. If you go to class, do your work, and ask questions, you'll do well. Go to office hours- she's funny and always has candy!
I loved the class. She explains everything in her class. The test is pretty much what we learned in class.
Orgill's an amazing lecturer, but she's tough and will take off points on tests if you don't use her words and put units in every single part of the problem, which can easily take someone from an A to a B on the test. If I just put in a bit more effort and didn't get sick at the last moment, I could have passed the class with at least a B.
Dr. Orgill is the epitome of a great professor. She provides well thought-out lectures and tests on what she teaches. She makes class enjoyable and is very attentive to her students, making you feel like more than just a number (unlike many other professors). 3 Exams, 1 final Exam, online HW, opps for extra credit, and a few in class group quizzes.
Overall; A decent class But exam grading is "all over the place" to say the least. If you do not regurgitate answers on the tests verbatim as written in lecture; you will somehow lose half the points even if the answer is by definition, correct. Class is more about memorizing word-for-word a lecture; than actually learning to solve problems.
Very thorough with her lectures and gives you all the materials needed to study and receive an A in the class. Go to class! Attendance isn't mandatory, but she doesn't post full notes. She grades tests pretty tough. Do all the practice problems she puts on webcampus! They help tremendously. Also, go to office hours. She is very helpful!
The BEST professor!!!! She is helpful and the exams are exactly over everything that you go over in lecture. Make sure you understand concepts because the exam is not M.C. Attend her office hours and get to know other people in the class. The online HW and quizzes can bump you up to an A. if you can take her!!! SHE IS AMAZING and loves chem!
She is a VERY tough grader. I did all of the practice exercises she posted for every single chapter and they all came out right when I saw the answers, but when it came to the exams, she will not give you credit if you don't solve things her way even if all your answers are right. She's nice, but she doesn't really care about our grades.
Dr. Orgill is fantastic. She explains concepts very clearly and uses entertaining examples. Her class if pretty fun and she prepares your for her tests. Tests aren't super easy but she tells you everything you need to know for them. As long as you study for them, you will do fine. I HIGHLY recommend her class. She is great!
Professor Orgill is a great professor! Her lectures are interesting, and she makes sure all of her students understand the topic before moving on. She assigns homework, however it takes 30 minutes at most to complete, and she only assigns one assignment per week. Her exams require studying, but they're exactly like her notes and her homework.
Orgill is the best teacher I have ever had! She made chemistry (which is a very difficult subject) so easy to understand. Her power points contain everything you need to know. And she doesn't just read from them, she explains and actually teaches.
I cannot say enough good things about this professor. I have struggled through trying to take this course before, only to have teachers not want to spend the time with the students, or making the concepts difficult to understand. Dr. Orgill makes chemistry easy to comprehend, and also makes it stick. She has been a lifesaver and a fantastic teacher
Professor Orgill was super enthusiastic to teach her class. Unlike most teachers, She gave really good tips to remember different concepts. Expect to have group quizzes. Also, DON'T be late to lecture, if she sees a lot of people missing, she will give attendance quizzes. If the opportunity arises, I will take her again for Chem.
Lectures and notes are very detailed. She seems to genuinely want her students to do well, and is very approachable outside of class. Essentially she does her best for her part as a lecturer, but has clear-cut expectations when it comes to exams, which can get a bit difficult if you haven't been staying on top of the coursework. Would take again!
Dr. Orgill is there for you both during lecture, and during office hours(OH), she will even give you chocolate & encourage you to come with questions, & study on your own. I am not good at chemistry but she helped me understand everything. If you just go to lecture you'll probably get a C or B, but do the problems, come to OH, & you can get an A!
I took this class because of the reviews, but maybe she was having a very rough year. I visit her office hours in the beginning of the semester but stopped. She would frequently roll her eyes when i asked questions and give very rude responses. She's very clear in what she wants done, but im writing this because she was flat out rude to many.
DO NOT SKIP CLASS. Multiple in class group quizess that will lower your grade lots if you miss. Dr. O is always so enthusiatic and made me excited to learn. She is a tough grader on all HW, quizzes and even tougher on the tests. She is very helpful during office hours. Tests are all fill in, no MC which I personally dislike. I would take again.
Orgill was the best chem professor I have had, because of her 103 class, I am surviving in CHEM 121. Make sure to study, do homework, and attend class.
She's amazing! Don't skip class because powerpoints are filled out during lectures. There are random group quizzes throughout the semester. The lowest is dropped at the end. Tests are written. Weekly homework. Grading is tough, so you must study, but she THOROUGHLY teaches you EVERYTHING and cares about you learning. Do yourself a favor, take her!
GO to class, she covers everything you need to know on the exam in lecture, and gives many hints. GO to office hours, she is very helpful. She is a tough grader, she lets you know way before the first exam that she expects all work and units shown, and she will take points off even if the answer is right, so just do it. She one of the best.
I loved her so much!!! Her class was easy because she definitely knew what she was doing. Not only that, but she was always there to lend a helping hand and actually cares about her students. Definitely go to her office hours because 1) they help A LOT 2) she gives out candy.
office hour are critical. also her lectures are clear and she makes chemistry easy. this class was amazing and i really enjoyed it. she wants her students to do well. use the objective sheets she gives to study for tests the final is hard so be ready to study otherwise this class was easy and fun. GO TO CLASS or you will feel lost.
Dr. Orgill is an incredible professor, which make sense since her doctorate is on teaching chemistry. GO to lecture (pop quizzes)and take good notes (exams straight from lecture). She has written problems on each exam that she is very specific about, go to office hours, she gives hints about what there on and how she wants them. TAKE ORGILL!
Best chemistry professor ever. She explains everything in a way that everyone can understand. GO TO CLASS or you won't pass. Tests are a little difficult but her exams come straight from her notes and lectures.
Her lectures are great. She tells you whats topics are going to be on the exam and if very willing to help you if you need it
Best chem prof I've ever had; best overall prof I've ever had too! I've taken several courses from her as well as Dr. Robins. Robins is amazing as well, but if you have to choose, I would highly recommend Orgill. Also, DO NOT BUY THE BOOK for chem 103, 121, or 122. You will get all the info you need from the lectures from either Orgill or Robins.
Best chemistry professor I've ever had. As in, I used to hate chemistry before I took her class. The way she lectures makes sense. Her grading criteria is clear and she dangles out an EC opportunity each class. You won't regret taking her section. I promise.
Orgill is amazing! Definitely recommend taking her. She teaches chemistry in a way that it's easy to understand. She doesn't make it complicated. I loved chem 122 because of her. I also really like that she provided learning objectives and extra practice problems. I did them for every chapter and actually helped me for exams. One of the best prof.!
Dr. Orgill is amazing. Honestly, she made my love for chemistry increase tenfold that I almost considered switching my major to chemistry. She's very smart, makes the material crystal clear, and she offers a ton of extra help in terms of office hours and practice problems. She's also very funny and her lectures were always enjoyable. Great teacher!
Dr. Orgill's lectures are the best. I'm glad to still be a Chemistry major because I have always been interested into learning this subject. No need to buy the textbook. All you will need is the sapling learning hw access code becuase she provides powerpoint notes on Webcampus(but the notes are not filled in). Practice problems help tremendously.
Dr. Orgill is one of the best profs this university has to offer. She really takes the time to explain and make sure everyone understands the material before the exams. She never tests on anything that wasn't covered in lecture. One critique, I felt the grading to be kinda harsh for minor things. Group quizzes in lecture and all homework is online.
Professor Orgill is passionate about chemistry which transfers to her lectures which makes it bearable to be in class. She gives 3 exams & 1 final & your final will replace the lowest score. Very helpful & gives great feedback in office hours. She genuinely wants you to succeed. I wish she taught more chem classes, definitely take!
I took Orgill for Chem 122 and she was superb! Her lectures are structured and expectations are very clear. She breaks things down so they are much easier to understand, and is always available for questions. She tells you what to expect on tests, so as long as you practice the problems she posts and from lecture & study, you'll be fine.
A lot of people complain about how professors don't teach and that they'd like an actual, good professor. Dr. Orgill is that good professor. Everything is taught so well, and her office hours are extremely accessible. She makes this class so fun with her enthusiasm and I find it almost impossible not to do well. Take Dr. Orgill, please
Best science prof. I've taken so far. DO homework on time, take quizzes, go to office hours, start studying for exams early, and use all the tools she gives you! Easy A if you put in effort!
Dr Orgill was a great professor! You have to work to get a good grade, but she gives you all the tools to make that possible.
Orgill makes chemistry super easy to understand. However, I did not really like the format of her tests: they are all written and have some portions of definition based questions. This can be very easy as long as you study ahead of time. Do all of the practice problems and study definitions and you are set. I wish I would've studied harder!!!!
easiest chem class. everything is spoon fed to you, take her if you get the chance! she great at explaining. A lot of people get As in her class! only thing that sucks is her group quizzes.
She's very nice and friendly, excellent for those very serious on chem. For non-chem/biol/anything chem heavy majors, I recommend someone else. Her class is BRUTAL because how HW questions and tests were like. you have to be obsessed with chem to take her class. I only needed to take one class.
UNLV is lucky to have her, one of the best profs out there. She truly cares about everyone's success. If you're willing to help yourself, she'll be there for you 100x more. She doesn't assume that everyone is smart, she goes down to the level of the students as needed. Great personality. Kind person. Excellent teacher.
She makes the class and lectures very easy to understand. Do the HW and practice a lot, sit in front of the class, participate when she asks a question and it's gonna be an easy A. Can't believe that people complain that she's too easy and everything is spoonfed. Smh.
Dr. Orgill is a great and passionate professor. I would 100% recommend taking her for any chemistry class. The only complaint I have is that she teaches her lectures as if everyone has her PowerPoint notes printed out. Some weeks I would forget to print them and taking notes suddenly became 10x more difficult.
Dr. Orgill is amazing! Seriously, so talented as a teacher. She makes stupid connections for you, that actually help to remember the material. She cares if you succeed, but you still have to put in the work. One homework assignment every week, three exams, some group quizzes, and a final (that replaces your lowest exam) make up the grade.
She is the absolute best. She makes learning the material so easy and fun, in and out of class. Like every other class, you have to put in the effort to do good. So, pay attention in class BECAUSE YOU FILL IN THE POWERPOINTS WITH HER IN CLASS. The homework is a bit difficult so I suggest going to her office hours or SI to get help.
Dr. Orgill is the best! Awesome professor and awesome person. She is a great lecturer, as she manages to keep it interesting while still teaching all the content. If you go to lecture and do your homework, you'll pass, I did not bother buying the book. Study your notes, homework and the study guides she gives and you'll get an A.
I came from a chem professor who taught nothing (Berg) to one who studies how students learn and knows how to teach and explain. Shes amazing at clarifying and not overwhelming you. Spunky and likable. 10/10 would take again.
Group quizzes to foster help amongst peers. Love her skeleton notes. Encourages me to pay attention & go to class! Exams are truly based on her examples, and the things she tells you to study. Her hw is ACTUALLY helpful. Short 5-15 problems a week that build on what you learn so you have a solid foundation. I hate chem, but I sure like it now!
Dr. Orgill is the most effective professor I've ever had in my 6 semesters at UNLV. She is very clear about explaining concepts and is able to provide good examples/clarification when requested. Her exams represent the material and expectations pretty well. This class will require practicing examples but you shouldn't struggle as long as you do so.
I have gotten my lowest test grades ever in Orgill's class. She's a good professor but her grading is awful. You lose points for the dumbest things, like not writing out when you're subtracting from both sides. My best test grade was an 82%... and I every final answer correct. This class has destroyed my GPA, even though I know all the material.
Love Dr. Orgill! She is so awesome and made 122 a breeze. If you pay attention, print the lectures and bring them to class you, study hard: you will be solid. She is very clear with her teaching since she studies how people learn. By far the best prof at UNLV. Wish more profs in the science depart were like her
Good teacher, but not listened to. Write down anything she says about how to prepare for an exam. If you fail to listen to how she tells you to prepare for an exam, she already seems sick of repeating herself to students who refuse to listen. She has office hours 4 days a week, quickly responds to emails, and gets her exams graded fast. Excellent.
Her lectures are clear and gives a step-by-step process to problems that really helps. Her tests aren't bad and she does dock points off if you don't do specify something correctly on the process, but she emphasizes what you have to do on the question on a daily. Orgill gives great preparation for her tests and shes an amazing teacher.
Orgill's way of teaching is clear and easy to understand. Go to class, listen to her lectures, take notes, do homework. As long as I stayed on top of it every week, I rarely had to spend any extra hours besides going to class to study for chemistry. Except 20 minutes to an hour of homework per week, depending on how much materials she covered.
Dr. Orgill is one of the best professors I have ever had. She explains every concept clearly and gives multiple examples for each one. She makes everything very easy to understand. Attending her lectures is important if you want to get a good grade in the class. The exams reflect the lecture material well and she gives you practice problems.
One of the best chem profs!! She is awesome - her lectures are clear, she is very understanding, and her tests are as expected. Yes, sometimes her tests are graded weird, just go talk to her. Yes, you do have to work for it. I did not use the textbook or go to SI. Just went to every lecture, did the online weekly hw, and studied with friends.
The class itself is not hard all you have to do is study her notes and her homework problems and you should pass! Would highly recommend her!
Couldn't ask for a better prof. It is incredible how she's able to explain quite tough topics in such a simple way that it is hard NOT to understand. She teaches what you need to know, and she only demands what she's taught you. With her this class was an easy A. Just make sure to go to the lecture and do the homework and you'll be fine.
Dr. Orgill is easily one of the greatest profs. Her lectures are handwritten, and she makes sure that we understand the topics by using personal examples. Her lectures and homework are similar to the exam questions. Just pay attention to how she answers the questions. She provides a welcoming environment for her students, so visit her office hours!
I actually feel stupid in her class. She is great. Energetic, fantastic, engaging. I really love chemistry, I really hated my previous instructor. So this was just different. VERY DIFFICULT and challenging. All these reviews saying how it was so easy, it. was. NOT. This was a difficult class, difficult material, difficult exams. Good luck.
Dr. Orgill is awesome. Chemistry is a little challenging, but she makes understanding it simple. There are weekly homework and the occasional group pop quiz. The exams reflect the lecture and homework material. If you need any help, she is more than happy to answer your questions. Take this class!!!
Dr. Orgill is a great teacher. Shes very clear in her explanations. However, shes not compassionate. Her tests do reflect what is taught but if you dont write it out how she wants it, you miss all the points on the question. If you have a job or have to deal with life like almost everyone in college, dont count on her to make it easier for you.
Dr. Orgill is the best chemistry teacher I have ever had. If you put in a decent amount of work and study then it is an easy A. There are quizzes that are super easy, HW, 3 tests, 1 final. My only advice though, make sure you pay attention how she wants you to answer the questions and show every single step on her exams. Easy A.
She is cool but those who grade the tests see you as their worst enemy. If you do not agree with your test grade go and fight for it. They take points off for no reason. We couldn't see our finals grade because she went to God knows where out of the country.
I'll be in the minority! She's super fun, but I did not enjoy her class. Exams are long answer; she is very particular on how she wants answers. Did well on online HW & lab; made up for so-so exams. Exam1, brutal. Exam2, still learning how she wants wording. Exam3, better. Final was HARD bc she allows replacement of 1 exam if better. Don't take ):
If you can teach yourself then great but I highly recommend going to her lectures and doing the assigned HW right after class. She teaches the material very well and takes thing step by step. Love her and hope to get her again. She is unlike other professors who talk at you, she explains things so you can understand the material best.
Orgill was a wonderful professor. 15 Homework questions due every week and 3 exams and a final. Her lectures are easy to understand and shes really funny. She offers SI sessions and extra credit. I didn't buy the textbook but still got an A, I dont think you need it. If you talk to her in office hours, shes genuinely willing to help!
Dr. O is by far one of the best professors at UNLV. She gives great notes & everything you need for the exams is in the notes. You must attend lecture to get them tho cuz she doesn't post everything online. You get points for all your work shown on exams, just don't forget your units. Go to her office hours, you won't regret it!
Dr. Orgill's lectures are engaging and interesting. She has a passion for teaching, and makes chemistry understandable and fun. I strongly recommend taking her over any other professor teaching 122 if given the chance. Is also very clear about what she wants on exams, and plenty of resources to practice problems.
Dr. Orgill is the best! She's very clear on what she wants on the exams, her powerpoint slides are very detailed so you don't need the textbook. She gives you many practice problems and resources and is very helpful during her office hours. Go to office hours if you have any questions. Also, go to SI for more practice.
Dr. Orgill is fantastic, she clearly cares about her students and makes the lectures detailed and catered enough that you honestly do not need the textbook. Her exams are extremely fair, and she is easily accessible outside of class either in office hours or email. Definitely take her if you can!
Orgill explains everything quite thoroughly and always leaving time in lecture for you to ask questions. There is online homework every week that can be tough and will affect your overall grade. The tests are pretty straight forward if you studied! I would recommend doing her practice packets and the practice problems in the text book!
Orgill is by far one of the best professors I've taken. Despite having an early class, she was able to keep all of us engaged and helped us understand the material. She does assign homework weekly but it is helpful for her exams. Also, her exams are written, but as long as you review her slides and go over homework problems, you should be fine.
i havent been so inspired by a professor since high school.. Dr. O teaches SO well. lectures are not boring, and material is taught at a good pace for everyone to understand, imo. she posts slides, but only bits of it, so that you fill it out together during class, which makes it engaging. exams are exactly what she lectures and gives examples on
Mrs. Orgill is amazing! If you ever get the chance to have her as a teacher, you won't regret it! You will NEVER have to read the book! She is super caring, genuine, and funny! I had a real bad chem experience going into chem 122 so I was scared! But she made it super easy! Just DON'T SKIP CLASS. That's where you will learn the most! The best.
Tough grader for word problems on tests, not so much for mathematical problems. Makes tough subjects easy to digest. Exams look exactly like the homework. Go to lecture, do the homework, study a few days before the exam you'll be golden. Don't rely on extra credit, you have to hunt her down and be the first student to ask her for it that day.
Literally the best prof. I've taken so far! She explains everything in detail. Gives you everything you need to succeed in her class. If you can't pass this class, it's because you're lazy. Always there to answer any questions you have. I wish she taught upper-level chem. Go to class so you can get the best out of it!
Best professor I've taken at UNLV. Explains each topic exhaustively and is happy to do it again during office hours. I can't provide a strong enough recommendation.
The best professor I've ever had!! She has a fairly strict grading scale but she gives us so many resources to get a good grade (exams are just like hw). I recommend going to all her lectures because she's great at explaining problems and concepts!
She is amazing! Truly cares for her students and is totally approachable in office hours. She shows you how to do everything you need for the test and the homework is very helpful. She makes chemistry fun! Take her if you have the chance.
Amazing. Legit the best lectures I have seen. She teaches you everything you need to know and all you have to do is practice.
esp right now with the pandemic, things have been so hard :( dr. orgill is the only prof that i have who understands what students are going through and actually cares. unkv is lucky to have dr. orgill her lectures are amazing and her explanations are easy to follow :)
Dr. Orgill is easily one of the best professors I have ever had! It's very easy to reach out to her. If you have a chance do not miss out and take her. Her video lectures are easy to follow along with and the exams are all written, but they are actually easier than you think. Dr. Orgill's exams are very fair and directly correlate with her videos.
Dr. Orgill's class is difficult but she is easily the best professor I have ever taken. Her exams are based directly off of her lectures and she is always willing to help. Unlike most, she has make amazing accommodation for learning and getting a good grade online during COVID. You need to study for an A but she is fantastic!
Dr. Orgill is great!!! Her lectures are amazing and as long as you pay attention to what she is saying, you'll do good on her test. Make sure you pay attention because Dr. Orgill is sneaky and she will totally throw you a curveball on the test, so be ready for it. I wish she taught more chem. subjects, because I would definitely take those classes.
Dr. Ogill is a blessing. A lot of other professors barely put in effort when it comes to online class but that is NOT the case with Dr. Orgill, she cares about teaching and making her lectures crystal clear- which they are. She put in a lot of time and effort into making her videos and it shows. I'm so thankful that professors like Dr. Orgill exist
I'm a post-bacc student and have had many professors. Dr. Orgill is probably top 3! She is an amazing educator that cares so much about her students learning and grasping what she is teaching. If you put in effort in listening to the lectures, do the practice problems she gives, and attending SI sessions, you WILL do well. AMAZING chem professor
I took Dr. Orgills Chem 122 class online. Absolutely phenomenal! After having a bad experience last semester in Chem 121, Dr. Ogrill made me fall in love with chemistry. I have never had a professor as amazing and attentive as her. She literally provides everything you need to pass with an A, you just need to work for it. She makes it fun to learn
DR. ORGILL IS THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD! She made me love chemistry again after having a terrible experience in CHEM 121. Her lectures are amazing and she is always willing to help you out in office hours. The class consists of 3 midterms and 1 final. If you study, you will definitely get an A. She gives you everything you need to succeed!
Dr. Orgill is great! She has so many office hours options and is very helpful. She replies to messages fast. She is not lenient, but she is very fair. I feel like she really cared about me understanding the information. 10/10 recommend. You do really have to watch the lecture recordings though.
All of her 5.0 ratings are well deserved. She is an amazing lecturer and she is honest with students. There is no guessing about what is expected of you or what you should be doing to succeed. Dr. Orgill makes chemistry enjoyable. I didn't dread lectures or homework, in fact, I was excited to do study for her class. Do yourself a favor and take her
Easily one of the best professors I've had. She made me love chemistry again. She makes you work for your grade, but she shows you everything you need to know and will not test you on something you haven't seen before. ATTEND OFFICE HOURS! I rarely asked questions, but she allows you to lurk and see what other students may have questions on.
CHEM122 can be difficult but Dr Orgill really breaks it down in a way that is easy to digest. The class was remote due to COVID but I still found her lecture videos to be very thorough and well planned. She really cares about her students and it shows. Best chemistry professor I've ever had for sure.
She is a good professor but her class is tough. Dont be fooled by what people tell you! Her exams are not like the practice questions from the homework and lectures. Her average on exams are 60% but refuse to curve even though about 50% of the class is not passing. Confusing grading scale. I would not take her again. Take Dr. Carter instead!
I would literally kiss this woman. Best professor I have ever had hands down. She makes chemistry EASY. Of course you still have to put in a ton of time on your own to study (it's chemistry.) but she truly cares and wants students to understand and succeed. She approaches hard topics in an amazing way. Love her for-real, take her!!! I got an A.
Dr Orgil is the BEST chem teacher ever. Gives so many amazing real life analogies that genuinely help you understand these otherworldly ideas. I have HATED chem until this class. She tells you EVERYTHING to prepare for & what she expects very clearly + OVERLY prepares you. Shes repetitive but in the best way. So passionate about her material. love
Dr. Orgill is by far, the best science lecturer I've had. She is very engaging and incredibly personable and makes chemistry *relatively* enjoyable. Her exams are challenging and I feel that she's a tough yet fair grader. Study hard, do practice problems, and show up to lecture and you will be set for a decent grade!
The best science teacher I've had, and she's really passionate about teaching chemistry. Her exams are tough, but she is a fair grader, and if you go to her office hours, she will give you tips to succeed. This class will not be an easy A. Do the homework problems, review the learning objectives, and redo the lecture problems, and you'll be fine.
Dr. Orgill is amazing! She teaches very well, just be sure to study for those harder to grasp topics. She also dropped my lowest exam, replaced by my final exam.
Professor Orgill is one of the best professors I have experienced here at UNLV. Chemistry is a difficult subject as it is, but professor Orgill's communication skills and organization are one of the best I have seen. Be ready to study a lot but professor Orgiills teaching style gives you a fighting chance to get a good grade in the class.
Dr. Orgill is by far one of THE BEST professors at UNLV! Her lectures are well-organized and easy to follow. She explains everything in such an easy-to-understand way anyone could grasp the concepts. She provides PP slides that you complete during class, practice examples and learning outcomes to study from. She really wants her students to excel.
Awesome and really nice professor but she is a tough grader in terms of homework. Especially, it is online with a website that can be hard to navigate sometimes. This tests your availability to use the website rather than the actual knowledge. Any error is a huge markup per question.
What I LOVED about her lectures was that they were interesting and I understood the work I was doing, not just memorizing each step. She is very approachable and excellent at explaining concepts. Beware of pop quizzes done in groups and be careful when doing the homework. Her expectations for exams were clear. Highly recommend! :)
Dr. Orgill is a good professor when it comes to teaching, but her exams are horrible much harder than the homework. Most of the stuff that were in the exams are not covered and she is really a tough grader. She could fail you easily if you forgot to put a sign or whatever in the exam. She is good but Pan is better than her when it comes to exams.
I have always struggled with chemistry but Dr Orgil's lectures are absolutely amazing!! If you just attend her lectures and focus in class you don't even need to cram all night to study for exams lol. Her exams are like what she goes over in class specially the notes and HW. You definitely need to study and put in the work, but she's amazing!
Dr. Orgill is by far the best professor I've had thus far. Her lectures are in-depth yet still easy to follow, mainly because of her great analogies and quirky personality. She is a tough grader, but study hard AND DON'T FORGET YOUR UNITS, and you'll do just fine. She also brings candy to office hours and just chills with us while we do her hw
You will NOT get by studying last min. She is a HARD grader. Do the tests exactly like she does in the lecture. Do not do math differently bc she marks down for that. Will also mark you down for math "mistakes" that she didn't do herself on the key or show in lecture. Weekly hw, 3 exams, final & 5 pop quizzes. Lecture is great, do not miss one!
Extremely competent teacher, but incredibly difficult class. Dr. Orgill is intelligent and friendly, but she's a very tough grader. You really need to take the time to study the material and write down everything in the lectures to do well on the exams. Take every opportunity you can to understand the chapters and ask her for help when necessary.
Dr. Orgill is awesome at teaching and she makes chemistry easy to learn. Attending her lectures are an absolute must. Her exams are fairly difficult, but she makes sure you are prepared for them.
She is a great teacher but her way of teaching is not for me. The class is extremely easy, there are very few homework problems each weak, test is out of the homework and lecturer notes, group quiz. Hence you will have an easy A if you want to each class and do the HomeWorks. But going to class is not just to get a good grade but also to pass.
Dr. Orgill is a great professor, she makes the material easy to understand, her lectures are organized, and she makes it obvious and hints towards as to what questions might be on the test. Her grading is very harsh but reasonable for chemistry. No multiple choice, only written answers.
She makes you understand chemistry!!
Made me fall in love with chem, would take her 1000x again. She gives clear guidelines as to whats on the tests and homework. Gives real life examples of chem and makes sure you understand every concept. Amazing powerpoints that walk you through simple problems to more complex ones. Take her!!!
best prof, super caring, accessible in office hrs + email, she actively alters pace of class based on how we are doing (not many professors are willing to do this), hw problems are relevant to lecture, she is an expert on everything (literally), gives candy in office hrs. consider urself lucky for having Dr. Orgill as a professor, appreciate her
One of the best chemistry professors! She makes the material engaging and easy to understand. Definitely do the practice problems and take advantage of her office hours. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for studying too. Tough grader but worth it.
orgill has such an amazing way of explaining concepts. lectures are never boring, and she always tries to engage her students throughout. exams are extremely easy, as long as u study the slides she goes over and the learning objectives. an overall great professor
Dr. Orgill is genuinely the best science professor at UNLV. I've received an A on all 3 exams so far. She'll give you exam hints too! Do not skip her lectures, they are worth going to!! Chemistry has never been easier.
Dr. Orgill is one of the best professors I have ever had at UNLV. She has an excellent understanding of effective and clear teaching, which is extremely important in chemistry. On top of that, she has a great personality and is caring of her students. Dr. Orgill makes chemistry fun and makes you want to come to lecture.
She is accessible and so are the TAs, she had 3 office hours a week, and 2 SI sessions. She did take a personal dig at me while in her office hours asking for help. Style of teaching wasn't working for my learning style so I asked a lot of questions. Practice problems to study for exams do not rely on homework and lectures. Attend SI sessions.
