Claims the exams are based off the objective list.. they are not. Studied the objective list for all exams and it only made me do worse. DO NOT take her class unless your very smart and don't expect a lot of help without criticism.
Her test are so much more than what she says to study. She is extremely nice however her tests are mind boggling hard than what they should be or at least what she says to study.
Lecture is all over the place and very unorganized. Lab is better, but still a little unorganized. Tests, awful. She gives more than one right answer and you have to try to figure out which right answer is the best..... No feedback, we got our first papers back 8 weeks into the 16 weeks and had no idea we were doing things wrong left & right.
For all the students rating her poorly, this is false. DO NOT blame the professor for the amount of material needed to be known. Biology in general is not the easiest course, regardless of your professor you will have to study ALOT. I studied and reviewed the material, and I received an A in her class with no problem. Its not hard.
This class was a living nightmare. She claims that her tests are based off of her notes and lectures but not at all. I love science classes and studied huge hours for tests and still failed because the material you think youre supposed to know isn't on there... The labs are useless as well because she just lets you go off and do your own thing.
She is very helpful. 4 lec and lab tests. The lab ones are departmental. We had a lot of chapters to cover, not because of her, but the materials were a lot! she posts PowerPoint slides on angel. she helps everyone and always wants you to ask her so she can lead you. Love her :)
I loved her!!! She is so kind. I was struggling in the beginning of the semester getting 76's on the first lect and lab exams. I went to her office and she sat down with me and explained to me how to improve myself. I would most certainly take her class again. If you respect her, she will respect you. If you study hard you can do well.
This lady changed my major. She is not helpful at all and will embarrass you in front of the class. Test are not anything like the study guide so dont even bother. They say youll remember your favorite and worst teacher, well shes my worst.
Prof Kelley is one of my favorite bio professors by far. Everything is powerpoint, no book. If it's on the study guidepowerpoint, it's on the test; there's just a lot of information. Post labs and pre labs count for points. Exams are difficult but fair, and extra credit is offered. Would highly recommend taking her for bio 2400 or 2730.
Prof. Kelley is hilarous in her own way. She knows her material, but sometimes stumbles and may confuse. May need to remind her of what homework is due when. Lots of Pre labs and Post labs!
The class is hard but if you put the time into it, you will do good. She gives packets of what to expect on practicals and tests, so it's not like you go in blinded. She is very helpful and is always around answering questions. I highly recommend taking her classes.
She is a very nice professor, however is unorganized. Lectures are all over the place. Tells you that this topic is not important and won't be on the exam but when the time comes and there are five questions on the exam. Only gives three exam, when she says she gives out four. Doesn't have a clear grading criteria. Wouldn't recommend.
Very good biology teacher, will help you if you ask or come by her office before or after class, don't get me wrong class is hard if you don't study but if you know your stuff than you should do fine. Also she would give us study guides for each exams which helped out a ton!
Honestly one of the best teachers I have ever had with my college experience. Works with you on understanding things and will spend time in lecture to make sure its clear and well understood. Gives study guides. If you don't pass its because you didn't try. Willing to help out anytime.
Just started taking her class and she is nice but all over the place. Not very clear in her instruction and labs she just hands you a paper telling you what to do and your on your own. She gives no instruction your just left figuring it out. If you ask for help she confuses you more and tells you it's in the book and to follow the steps. Dislike!!
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!!!!!! NEVER, I REPEAT NEVER TAKE HER!! TAKING HER THIS SEM. BY FAR WORST! DOESNT GIVE MARKS.. DOESNT TEACH PROPERLY.. TEST IS VERY HARD!! DONT KNOW HOW I'LL FINISH THIS COURSE. GIVES YOU A LOT OF TENSION!! I'M EXPLODING WITH ANGER WHEN I THINK OF THIS CLASS. UFF......
Professor is a wonderful & smart person but "VERY UNORGANIZED". The professor have "TOO MUCH LOAD ON THE PLATE". So be prepared to do a lot of homework & classwork that "MAY NOT BE GRADED." I just felt that if you are going into this class, ask a lot of questions & prepared in advance for the unexpected. Good luck survivors!
Professor K is an awesome instructor. She's just preparing her students with extra work so the understanding of each topics are clear. It is hard work but she is there if her students need clarification. She does gives out extra credits & will help you as long you bring to her attention. Please do not skip lab days, it's important and no make-up.
Great teacher! The content of this class is rather difficult, but if you put in the time and effort you will get the grade you want! She is very nice and is always open to your questions and concerns. You can tell she wants her students to succeed, just wants to make them work for it. Only problem I have with her is that she takes forever to grade
Hard lectures. There are 4 lecture exams and 4 lab exams that you really need to study for in order to pass. You should attend most of the classes because there is alot of new info thrown at you very often. Recommend to review before and after each class. I regret not doing that.
Professor Kelley is helpful and kind. Passed the class but it was also challenging which I didn't give up. Recommend students to be prepared, ask questions, don't give up, and you will do just fine. What I like most in this class that lectures goes right side by side with lab experiments that will help clarify the understanding of each BIO topics.
Professor Kelley is one of my favorite I've had throughout my college career! So kind and caring and makes you feel so comfortable asking for guidance. Attendance is not mandatory but so much is covered each lecture I don't recommend skipping. Taking her for patho this winter, so excited :)
Professor K is one of the best professor i have had. as in any biology class, you need to study to earn the grade. it is not an easy class, but very doable if you study. she really cares for her students and their success. she will take the time to explain material in both the lab and lecture. she also gives extra credit. i recommend taking her
Horrible listener. Gives us study guides 3 days before we had a 6 chapter exam almost every time! Posts online homework a day before it is due. Not organized. Worst professor I have had. I have to retake this class!
she is very nice person but she squeezes so many chapters on one unit. a little disorganized. i would suggest for the students taking this class is to depend on themselves a little more because the class covers huge material and the professor is not gonna cover everything or make you understand it.
Didn't make the class difficult, easy tests, nice, and friendly. Just slow on grading things and returning them.
Worst ever... take my word for it.
She is a wonderful prof, one of the best I have had. The class itself is an extremely hard class, you have to study min of 6-7 hours a week so be prepared. She gives a lot of extra credit and it always willing to help. She does not do is give reviews for the exams, which makes it hard for the lab exams, and gives very little hw and quizzes!
Class is not too difficult as long as you go to class and study well. You cannot skip classes or you will not pass. She is kind and understanding but very disorganized. She never gives back grades in a timely manner and assignments are always changing. Due dates not always clear. Grades are based heavily on tests, lab and lecture.
Great teacher! She works with students and actually listens. She is quite funny and makes tests difficult to test your knowledge. Take her class if you want to challenge yourself to do better. She has 4 exams, and 3 lab exams. I finished with an A in the class. She is by far one of my favorite teachers I have ever had at MCC. You'll love her.
I didn't put enough effort into the class, so I didn't do as well as I should've. However, I looked forward to going to this class, her lectures were the best of the best. I caught on to the lab exams halfway through, they are not that hard if you study. I will miss going to this class. I didn't like the take-home lecture chapters. Learning center!
Dr. Kelley was an excellent teacher for the subject. She made the lectures easy to understand. However, this class, as of when I took it, was not structured as a non-bio major's class. So, be prepared to work hard and study. Now, don't let that scare you off, she's willing to help you as long as you ask for it. Definitely would take again.
This class is easy if you read the material assigned. It can seem like a lot of reading, but most of this I remember learning in HS. This teacher is fair on grading, gives a decent amount of EC and tells you what you'll need to know for the test. She's also really good at doing her job (the lectures solidified the reading).
Professor Kelley was great. She is lecture heavy, but she is very helpful and approachable. You can tell she really enjoys what shes teaching. I only used the PowerPoints without purchasing the book and still received a B in the class. However, other students who had the book said that it helped. Great lab instructor as well. No complaints.
Excruciatingly difficult exams and quizzes worded in a very dumbly way. Labs unclear and change without notice on lab day. Harsh grader, takes points away for drawing an uneven line. Gives extra credit, then takes it all away, feels very vindicative. If you care about your grade and future either go to a good campus or take a better professor.
Prof. Kelley was one of the best professors I had at macomb. I actually took her for BIO 1000 before taking Micro with her. Her dedication and true passion for teaching her students is amazing and while yes she does lecture heavy, her lectures are extremely helpful and she keeps them interesting. If you work hard and go to class you will do great.
Professor Kelley is an awful professor. She is passionate in microbiology but expects you to know absolutely everything about it before even having the class. Her homework assignments are graded heavily. If you have a point on a graph a cm off or a crooked line you will get a poor grade on your assignment. She is out to fail people. DO NOT TAKE HER
Tries to fraternize with students in an manner that's inappropriate. Makes me uncomfortable. Instructions are vague and misleading, her grading criteria is a huge issue that many students on here have already discussed and is still a problem now. Lazy with uploading lecture material, sometimes postponing until days before an exam, if at all.
She's a very kind and caring person so you want to like her, but she is so unorganized it leaves you feeling out of control and unmotivated. The material should be simple, but you're too overwhelmed by the organizational aspects of class that it really takes away from the learning experience. If you are not typically an A student, don't count on it
changed my major. absolutely horrible professor out to fail people makes her exams impossible and tells you a few days before the exam that you even have one
When I registered for this class, prof Bell was supposed to be my instructor but somehow they switched and I ended up with this professor. She doesnt know how to lecture or at least know how to deliver the info. The slides are straight forward but the tests are 10x deeper/more complicated than they should. Im an A student and I barely have a B
I liked Dr Kelley for the most part. She is caring, funny, and very intelligent. She is pretty unorganized, which is frustrating. People say Dr Kelley is a hard teacher, which is true, but this college! Work had and you will do ok. Her lecture exams are rough, though, lab exams much easier. I enjoyed her lectures, but I love biology.
Had Professor Kelley for both bio 1000 and 2400. She cares about students education And well being. Very passionate about biology and enthusiastic when lecturing. Lectures are heavy and there is a lot of homework, but it's necessary for the course. Disorganized at times. Do not study last minute. Lots of material to study to be successful.
Professor wants to see you succeed and will help you do so if you put in the work.
I have taken Kelley for bio1000 and bio2400 and has 2 different experiences. For bio1000 I had no problems. I felt like I could come to her with a problem and it would be fixed/resolved immediately. For bio2400 she was a little bit harder on the grading and was slower to respond to any concerns/questions I had. I do love her lec style though.
Lecture exams were based off of her notes in class and she offers extra credit in the lecture exams! Very nice professor and her notes are straight forward, would definitely recommend her if you need to take microbiology ! Lab write ups were kind of difficult but other than that class is easy!
Professor is very disorganized. Schedule changes constantly and she does not give you enough time to adjust. Exams are beyond difficult. Only give you the information for exams not even a week beforehand. I do not recommend at all.
Professor Kelley is a good person, she is kind and understanding, However, she is a very hard professor to take for MircoBio. She is very disorganized, does not put in grades in time, which I understand everyone has a life, but we did our work you should do yours on time as well. She is a very tough grader and her lecture exams are hard. Don't take
She is very disorganized and she is a hard grader it does not matter how much effort you put into the class, she has very high standards. What makes this class so hard she doesn't seem to test from her power point slides she gives us which makes you second guess your self a lot. She does not know how to deliver the info. I would not recommend her.
doesnt understand that she gives an overwhelming work load. we DONT have 20 years of science background, she moves at a fast pace. very nice and funny. but doesnt teach material well at all. the Hw and Notes have no correlation to the tests whatsoever. writes down uanessacry info on notes that arent even on the test, makes it confusing to study
I would definitely not suggest taking her ever. She tests you on material that is never on the power points, fails to tell us what to study, makes you overthink on every SINGLE question. This class is extremely hard to keep your grade up. The online quizzes have no relation to the tests at all.
Guys. This is college. Info cant be spoon-fed to you. Prof Kelley did a great job lecturing material and emphasizing what would be on the exam. There were some extra credit questions too. Just put in the effort and you'll pass. Lecturing was fine, speed of grading was not good.
Sweet lady, with good intentions. This was her 1st time teaching nutrition, so I give her props because it was a jammed semester. Her test keys were often wrong, but study/put in effort & youll be fine. Had no problem meeting with her outside of class for help & study advice. Ended with an A- ! PSA- college isnt meant to be a walk in the park...
Prof Kelley is amazing! She gives great lectures and is always willing to help. She wants her students to succeed. This is not an easy class, so get ready to work. She makes you work hard for your grade, but it is doable. This semester got a little crazy with COVID-19, but Prof Kelley was extremely fair and helpful. I highly recommend her!
She is one of my favorite professors and truly loves her job! I'm going into nursing and this class was by no means easy. Prof K is very upfront about the class and she does a great job in her lectures. It is a lot of material, in a short amount of time, but she teaches very well. Highly recommend her!!!
She is a good professor, responds to email and is willing to help and answer questions. Overall, the class was organized and she records all the lectures and explains topics in detail. If you study and do assignments by due dates, you will pass with an A. The labs was done via online and the post labs were a difficult but manageable. Good luck!
Professor Kelley has the right intentions at heart but she is disorganized, her exams are difficult even after studying, & she takes forever to grade. She is a very hard grader, takes off points for simple mistakes. Her powerpoints are not clear and her instructions for assignments are vague. Be ready to work 10x harder than any other micro class.
This was a hybrid class during the pandemic so I know things were a little crazy. This class started in August 2020 and it seemed like she still didn't have a grasp on the online aspect. Very slow to grade assignments and regrade tests where answer that were correct were marked wrong. She was great in person but doesn't alway give clear instruction
Shes a nice teacher but shes very difficult. She doesnt explain the work enough to help you understand what your doing and she takes forever to grade work. There was a few times where she gave me a 0 because she didnt pay attention to what shes doing . Overall shes a good person but I wouldnt recommend her.
She was an okay professor overall but she took FOREVER to grade homework and tests. We did a lot of homework/quizzes back in February and she didn't grade them until the end of the semester.
DO. NOT. TAKE. HER. I read the reviews and thought I'd be okay. I'm an A- student; however, I got a B with her. Her exams are EXTREMELY difficult. She asks trick questions and then brags about how many students got them wrong. They're timed exams too, with 1 minute per question. She's a smart aleck. Nice at times. Half the class dropped. She's bad.
Best biology prof Ive ever had, and Ive had my fair share of bad biology profs. Kelley provides good thorough lectures and makes sure to explain everything well during lab. Exams are very straightforward and arent too hard if you actually study. If you need extra help, she is more than willing to meet with you before class. I highly recommend.
This is a very tough class regardless of the professor! Dr. Kelley made it easier to understand. Ultimately you have to study the material is not her fault if you aren't willing to put in the work.
Her exams are extremely hard and consisted of some things we never went over during lectures. We didn't have any quizzes and the homework was barely worth anything so grades are completely based on the exams.
Her exams were difficult, I never felt prepared enough for her exams. The homework assignments were worth almost nothing, didn't really help my grade. Your final grade in your class is basically based off of your exams score. She's a great lady, very nice and very funny. However, her teaching style wasn't for me and I found her class difficult.
Avoid her at all costs
horrible
Absolutely awful.
Choose a different teacher for bio. Lecture was incredibly boring and she was not very helpful. Exams were hard and the class averages were like 50-70 for all of them, and she'd blame the class every time. the labs okay but overall do NOT take her. I barely passed with a 73.
I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Kelley. She presents the information clearly during her lectures, she presents her students with many real world scenarios to better understand the material, and she correlates the lab material extremely well. I would recommend her to anyone looking to take biology courses here at MCC.
Professor Kelley was a kind and knowledgeable teacher that provided students with the tools to succeed. She offered a more than fair amount of extra credit on each lecture/lab exam and provided 2 extra credit labs. Microbiology is not an easy subject; ensure you are prepared to put in the time to succeed before you take. Read the textbook chapters.
In my opinion, she is a great professor but the class itself is challenging. There is a lot of material and a lot of concepts you have to learn, so you CANNOT fall behind. If you want to get an A, you must attend every class and lab and you have to review concepts outside of the class. There were a decent amount of students who dropped out.
She's a very nice lady. Makes lecture interesting, for a subject I struggled with she was a good teacher. Her exams are brutal, I've never studied harder for a class and barely passed. She's unorganized and bad with time management. Makes you responsible for material not covered in class.
Any bio class is difficult as it is but this prof made it impossible! Very unorganized, horrible time management, etc. Lecture exams are BRUTAL. Makes you responsible for material not covered in class. Studied nearly everyday and still barely passed.
Professor Kelley is an amazing lady but this class is terribly hard. Your grade is based off of how you do on lecture exams. Almost every question has something along the lines of "a & b are both correct" "none of the above" "all of the above". Studying is absolutely required, you will not pass unless you put in the effort. Fun overall, but study!
She was very nice and helpful. The class had 4 Lecture and 4 Lab exams. They were all worth 100 points each. That was the main portion of grades. The rest were online homework all added up to 100 points.
I would never recommend Professor Kelley to anyone. Ended up having to retake with a different professor because she graded so poorly. Went to her office hours weekly and she still was unable to help. Her test questions were nothing like the reviews. I stuidied hours every day and it was never enough. Save yourself and DO NOT take her.
Dr.Kelley is an amazing professor, that cares about her students, and tries to make microbiology as interesting as she can. She is very test heavy, and lectures can be long. She EXPECTS you know your stuff, and if you do, tests are not as difficult. Take advantage of extra credit opportunities! Go to office hours and find a good study partner!
You will not be disappointed taking this professor. For such a hard course she really does her best to make sure you are successful if you put in the work. Never a boring
By far one of my favorite teachers! Micro is a HARD class and requires lots of studying but going to her office hours and staying on top of things makes a world of a difference. She was happy to help when I didn't understand something. She prints out PP for lecture, and takes notes with you while teaching. Study her PP. She made me love micro
Very difficult to prepare for lecture and lab exams. Very unorganized. Missed multiple classes just prior to exams. Dr. Kelley was kind when you are able to speak to her. Attended every class and lab, studied 2 hours daily with retired biology professor and was still not prepared for the exams. Too much material provided.
This teacher is genuinely one of the most unorganized teachers I have ever had the displeasure of taking. Her lab is unorganized, we got our syllabus at the beginning of week 2 which is the latest I have ever gotten it. Seriously, even if other professors are "hard" go for them. At least you can study and play a fair game.
This professor is definitely a mom at heart. The class atmosphere is supportive and accommodating. Lots of extra credit offered, with good study guides and lecture notes given to do well on exams. The material is fair, not too hard or too easy, but it definitely requires good study skills. The book is used in assignments but not on the exams.
She missed multiple labs and never gave quizzes to help us gage our understanding. We had McGraw Hill assignments for every chapter but doesn't use them for exams. She's kind but very unorganized. I took her hybrid class so I'd suggest a diff prof or in-person class. There are 8 exams total. Lots of lectures + make sure watch them all to study.
Dr. Kelley is fabulous at her job! She takes pride in her work and despite being out ill for a chunk of the semester, she still did a great job filling in the blanks. Lab attendance imo is absolutely mandatory, even result days. She hands out ppt pkts for students to keep jot on. Study the ppts for lecture exams and the lab manual for lab exams.
I love Dr. Kelley, but her course is extremely difficult. I'm an early college student, and I ended up failing her course. She is a great teacher to talk to if you need help with anything. She cares for her students. The course is just extremely hard to understand because it's a new topic every class. No repetition/going over each topic.
Professor Kelly is such a sweetheart. I took her micro class in person during the spring/summer. She is super nice, super fair with grading, and everything on her exams were exactly what she teaches you in lecture. As long as you study and ask questions you will pass.
The professor is very fair in her grading and exam questions. If there is any sort of issue, the professor is quick to rectify the situation. There is a lot of content but it is manageable if you stay on top it. Prof Kelley really wants you to do well and will stay after class if you have questions. Prof Kelley will forever be one of my favorites!
I don't know how anyone passed this class I put in so much effort and still nothing made a difference. I took this class as a first year college student and I got solid A's in every one of my classes except hers. She is really nice but the class is just insanely hard.
DOESNT TEACH A THING!!
If you need this class as a pre requisite for nursing or dental avoid this professor at all costs. This course is EXTREMELY exam heavy. Not enough points given from homework or other projects to out weigh a bad exam grade. The class average on the first exam was a 60%… very unorganized and doesn't teach just gives PowerPoints to copy. Avoid!!
Semester was very disorganized. Exams had questions on topics we did not cover. She had to be reminded multiple times to fix grades and upload the notes online. Exams are based on what she writes in the notes, so everything else is a waste of time. No curves, and no study guide for lectures. When the class fails an exam, she does nothing about it.
JUST DONT DO IT. even if it the last option. it'll be a waste of time and money. out of my 5 years of college experience, i've never had a worse professor. literally a nightmare
