an awesome experience will awesome reading list. I am taking her 205 class next!
She's incredibly intelligent and has a passion for your subject. Her door is always open and will NOT forget your name. She's the only teacher so far that has actually gotten me out of bed in the morning looking forward to her class.
Delusional; patronizing; she can't take challenges by mature, smart students; will be teaching lower level by choice forever.
Not only is she helpful, she is also one of the nicest people on campus.
I usually despise English classes, but Mary Klayder made my freshman English class an enjoyable experience. She is sooo nice and willing to meet with you any time about anything. I would recommend her class to everyone!
The nicest professor at KU.
Very interesting and entertaining. Loved class. Watch out- she grades hard on first paper. Is engaging and wonderful and willing to help outside of classroom.
Best teacher in the world.
She made me want to be a better student and writer.
I took my honors tutorial class from Prof. Klayder, and she is also my honors advisor. She is always really helpful and she is willing to let me decide on my own which classes are best for me, while answering any questions I may have.
Took my freshman honors course with her and thoroughly LOVED all topics. She appreciates anything a student has to say, even if she doesn't agree with the point. So long as your papers are well-written, supported and viable, you will get awesome grades. She's so nice, too, and loves to help!

I took my honors tutorial, eng 205, and the london review with Mary Klayder. She is an outstanding professor and woman. In addition to her teaching skills, she's a combination of a mom, career counselor, and resident Yoda. I ranked the English 205 class as a 2 in difficulty because she gives you ideas for paper topics but she actually makes you think and create something. It's harder than most paper assignments, but a lot more satisfying. #1 influence on my life at KU - & i'm not an english major!
Totally the best english teacher ever...I'm definitelly taking her 205 class next semester
Klayder, in one word, is phenomenal. Her ability to connect with the students is impeccable, and she really makes herself your peer and not her teacher. Take complete advantage of her office hours and get to know Mary outside of the classroom; it not only helps you understand one another, but makes writing papers easier and more relaxed. MaryRULES!
Mary Klayder is kind & thoughtful. She has lots of office hours and is really open and willing to get to know all her students. But I heard from several other students that purposely slacked on papers and still got A's or B's. Some books we barely discussed. I think she's very sweet but a little too easy & that's why lots of people like her.
great!

Amazing. She definitely made my first semester of crappy classes bearable.
Mary encourages everyone to have something to say, and she will affirm anything that's thoughtful. You won't know her opinion, though. Your growth is her goal. I took 205 from her too, no time to talk about every book. Complexity increased in 205 drastically. My writing improved because of Mary; she's been very supportive of me all the way.
Loved this class! She LOVES classroom discussion, so everyone gets the opportunity to voice their opinion. Wants to help the students pass, so if you have a paper and you want her to edit it for you, she would be very happy to do so! Great teacher!
I took her honors tutorial. It was amazing.
really a fabulous professor. wants to help all. very helpful with advising even if you aren't an english major. totally enjoyable class
I love her, love her, love her. She is the type of person that makes you love yourself too. She is a fabulous professor and completely kind hearted individual. She snaps her fingers and things get done. The books are amazing and always my first choice on my homework list. SHE WANTS YOU TO GET AN A, so put in the effort and she will help get you
Mary Klayder is a professor you need to get to know. She is extremely enthusiasic about her job, loves teaching, and will do anything in her power to make you love English as much as she does. She has office hours almost constantly, Use them! A year after I had her as a teacher, I still go to her office hours. She's my go-to lady
She's basically the most amazing professor in the entire world. She wants you to pass her class, but more than that, she wants you to want to pass her class, and all of the rest of your classes. There have been many times that Mary & I have just sat in her office talking for an hour about school, and life in general.
Mary Klayder is a teacher that you will remember for the rest of your life. I loved her class.
Lots of material reading to keep up with. Class is incredibily interesting. Mary Klayder wins lots of teaching awards, and deserves every single one of them. She will touch your lives and you will never forget her.
Book choices are terrible and although she is nice I found her a terrible teacher
She is amazing!
I have taken 10 hours with Mary, and I wish I could go back in time and take them again just to be in her class more. She fixed my writing, taught me to love classic lit, and instilled a love of scarves in me that will never die. Mary Klayder=my hero
Absolutely amazing professor and person.
Mary is by far the best professor at KU. She has gone out of her way multiple times to help me succeed, as well as for her other students who truly want it and work for it. I see her as a friend now and she has been a great teacher. TAKE THIS CLASS
Mary was extremely helpful in all aspects -- in English, in school, IN LIFE! English 105 is not a particularly hard class, but Mary expects her students to be engaged and hard-working. Take this class not only for the readings, but to find a good friend in Mary.
She edits your major papers and gives you a chance to revise. She will let you turn in a paper late if you let her know about it before hand. She does not grade very tough. She doesn't pick apart every little mistake in your papers. She cares almost soley about content. Do not use maybe or I think in your papers. She wants you to be assertive. ****
Pretty easy class even though it is an honors course. I got an A without reading a few of the novels. She is a fun person.
Absolutely love Professor Klayder! She really cares about her students and her lectures are interesting and mostly student-led.
This class was the highlight of my first semester. Klayder makes the reading interesting and exciting by encouraging discussion. As long as you put in some effort on your essays, you'll do fine. Also, keep up with the reading it will help so much. She wants to see you grow through your writing, and is always reachable for help!
One of the best teachers I have ever had up until now. Very social and helpful. The class is relatively very easy for an honor's course. You learn a lot about novels and the meanings behind them without feeling too overwhelmed.
The best English professor on campus. She engages with her students and makes her classes extremely enjoyable. Sometimes, the book choices were a bit strange, but she has experience and knows how to develop interest in her students.
I studied abroad with Mary and I have to say she is one of the best, nicest, most amazing people I know. She wants her students to learn and have fun. YOu will not regret taking any class from her!!!!!
Professor Klayder is just about the nicest person you'll ever meet. As a teacher in class, she is not the most engaging lecturer, but that is only because she loves students to share their opinion and really wants to hear what they think. Talk to her and make friends with her and you will go far! Such a truly wonderful person.
Had Dr. Klayder for 105 and 205. The coolest woman on the face of the planet! Endless energy and boundless spunk! Loves her job, cares about her students and makes her students use their heads. Relatively easy class, keep up with the readings and think about your essays. Fair grader. Wears lots of scarves :D
She is kind of crazy, but fully amazing. The "ways of seeing" theme of the class was really interesting, and although it was not always pronounced, it was present in every work we read. I suggest keeping up with the readings and thinking outside the box for your essays. She has office hours, like, alllll the time too! Go talk to her!!
I can't say that I was caught up in the wonder that most people observe with M.K. That being said, Mary is great at understanding that you have other things to do and hers is not your only class so she is flexible with due dates (due a reasonable extent). In class she is above average and out of it she is very helpful but nothing to cry home about
She is one of the best teachers at KU for sure. As long as you do the readings her class is manageable. She's a fair grader and overall an amazing teacher that is very understanding!
Professor Klayder is the only person you really need to know in the English department. She is an amazing instructor and really gets you to think about life. I went on her 2011 London Review trip and is was amazing! I highly recommend Mary to anybody!
Best professor ever. Yeah, the material is a bit hard, but she explains it so well and makes it so interesting. And her final was, dare I say it, actually fun. Go to her office hours and develop a relationship with her. She'll even answer random advising/KU questions if you ask nicely. Take a class with her! You won't regret it!
Mary is one of the best, if not the best freshman professors on KU's campus. She's very flexible with creativity, compassionate, and willing to develop a personal, caring relationship with her students. She's reminded me why I love writing.
One of those teachers you should have at least once before you leave KU. Engaging class, offers lots of opportunities to be creative, very helpful, allows revisions to papers, really gets to know her students.
Mary is one of the best professor's I've ever had at university. She engages every student and brings so much enthusiasm to every class. Her intellectual fervor for literature, teaching, and advising is both phenomenal and admirable.
I LOVE THE LONDON REVIEW AND MARY KLAYDER. GO TO LONDON WITH HER. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. :)
Professor Klayder is the best english professor I have ever had. She is truly passionate about her subject, and as long as you participate in class and are engaged, this class will be so easy and interesting.
Mary is exceptional. I'm not an English major, but her classes have been some of my favorites. You learn so much more than how to write well - you grow as a person.
Mary Klayder is an outstanding professor. I've taken two classes with her at Ku as well as studied abroad on the British Summer Institute. She's spectacular! Would recommend ANY course by her!
I loved Dr. Klayder! I am an engineering major and not a huge English class fan, but I really liked her class. She was very helpful and you can tell she genuinely enjoys teaching and interacting with students. She does assign a lot of books and you are expected to participate in class but she is very helpful and understanding.
Dr. Klayder is very helpful. If you don't receive an A your first time, she'll let you turn in papers until you get the A. She has a final and its very easy as long as you read the material. Awesome professor. If you don't get an A, that's your fault.
Mary is one of the most wonderful professors I have encountered at KU. She's so caring and helpful. She genuinely wants her students to succeed. As long as you put in your share of the work, she will make sure that you can do well. She's the kind of professor that you can talk to about more than just class, and she cares about what you think.
Mary is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She's exceptionally kind and inspirational, and is overall WONDERFULLY AMAZING. The class is not stressful. Enjoy her class and be yourself, I know I felt sad at the end of the semester when I left my classmates. Don't forget to read!
I went on the London Review with Mary and had possibly the best time of my life. In terms of class, she's super helpful and easy-going. It's always clear that she cares about her students.
She lives up to the hype, even for English-haters like myself.
I am not a huge fan of writing papers and never have been, but in Mrs. Klayder's class, she made it kind of fun. She was very open to any kind of perspective you wanted to take on your papers. If you have a specific style of writing, she'll understand and help you develop it. Also, class discussions were always interesting and funny.
She was a really great teacher, and I loved her English 105 class! I really like English, but even my classmates who don't like the subject as much thought she was a great teacher. She's very understanding, and she really wants all of her students to succeed.
She is so motivational and really caring and an amazing professor / woman.
The 2017 London Review was one of the best classes I've taken at KU. Mary is wise, witty, and inspirational in so many ways. I can't wait to travel with her more!
Mary Klayder is the best! She's really funny, cares about her students, and genuinely loves what she does. This honors english course is a pretty easy class, but you still get a lot out of it. There's not a lot of work--it's mainly reading and discussion. I didn't read a single book and got by just fine with sparknotes. 10/10 would recommend.
I love her so much. She makes ENGL 105 accessible to everyone and focuses on the thinking and appraisal of culture rather than the fine details of it. I personally hate English but I'm really glad I took this requirement with her. Put in some honest effort and you'll get a great grade. Visit her office hours too, even if it's not class-related!
I love this woman to pieces. She opened so many doors for me, and this is as of my first semester freshman year! If you have the opportunity to take any class or study abroad trip with her--DO IT.
Mary is absolutely one of the best professors I have had! She is very much about having fun while learning and prioritizing the process over the grade (You never really have to worry about your grade). She is also the perfect professor for someone who may not be the biggest fan of English classes as well as those who love English! She's the best!
One of the coolest teachers at KU. Ask her about meeting Kanye. She's a great person, doesn't usually forget a face, and really cares about her students. Highly recommend.
Absolutely one of my favorite professors. I was ready for this class to be a typical English class, but it definitely was different. She really cares about her students and challenges you to look deep inside yourself and your way of thinking. Go to office hours, even if it is just to chat. Highly recommend having her as a professor!
Dr. Klayder is so wonderful. Take this class. You will have a great time with the reading, the discussions, and the projects. She does not make the class terribly challenging. Dr. Klayder really truly cares about her students and wants them to walk out of class seeing the world in diverse and authentic ways. LOVE her! Have fun and speak up!!
One of my favorite professors at KU. She will improve your writing and prepare you for the future. Very respected around campus and willing to help you in any way she can.
I loved learning from Dr. Klayder. She allowed revisions for all the essay papers, so it was possible to receive an A. She really tries to help you earn an A and is very respected on campus. I would recommend taking ENGL 105 for sure!
Dr. Klayder allows you to share your ideas and really learn different perspectives on life, social issues, etc. Speak up and really try to meet with her outside of class, she is always there to help her students. She really cares and will let you revise your paper! She is really understanding.
Mary is like a mythical creature who rose from the ashes of destruction to bring about peace for the people. Shes like a unicorn, rare for a professor like a unicorn is rare amongst horses. She cares about us like were family and genuinely wants to hear our opinions.
If you have a change to study abroad with Mary, GO! I have never met such an encouraging, amazing, knowledgeable woman. She is an inspiration to every student who knows of her at KU. Her classes are engaging, and she listens to you on both an academic and personal level. Everyone jumps at the chance to get into her classes; don't miss it.
She understands that all her students want A's so she is very willing to meet with students outside of class. She's super flexible if you simply talk to her. If you put in the effort you will get an A. Treat Mary Klayder well. She is so special.
Dr. Klayder must be the nicest Professor I will ever have in KU. She is a wonderful person and really wants everyone to have a voice in her class. She is very open to making appointments for helping her students with the papers. She loves different perspectives, so it is not like other English classes where you feel there is only one way to write.
Show up to class and complete essays on time. Very caring and led great seminars in class.
Incredibly kind. Dr. Klayder truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. If you ask for help, she won't hesitate to give it. She really values students' insights and their individual opinions. She encourages class discussions which are very helpful for sharing your ideas and coming to a deeper understanding of the material.
I absolutely love Professor Klayder. She's easy to contact and always willing to help if you have questions with papers. This class has a lot of reading involved, so be prepared.
If you aren't a fast reader this class can be time consuming, and the papers can take a while to do. That said Klayder is possibly one of the best professors I've had at KU. She made me really utilize and develop my reading and writing skills, and the stories really made me re-evaluate my outlook on life. If you can take a class with Klayder, do it
Dr. Klayder is a legend! Attendance is mandatory. There are three papers and a few in-class writings. First few readings are shorter, but the next will be around one book in a week. Plan accordingly; show up; and it'll be great!
Professor Klayder is so kind! I was worried to take the class because I did not want to drop my 4.0, but she grades everyone very high. I have gotten full points on every assignment so far. She also lets people redo the first two out of three essays in the class and have them regraded. I'm so happy that I was able to be in her class!
Dr.Klayder cares more about her students than any professor I have ever met. She again and again goes the extra mile for them, and it very kind and accommodating. One of my favorite professors at KU, and I highly recommend any of her courses.
Dr. Klayder's Ways of Seeing class is a great course--she teaches through connections and spends more time just talking with you than giving "lectures." Taking a class with Dr. Klayder will enhance your writing and analytical skills. She is an incredible professor.
Dr. Klayder is awesome. She's really chill and caring. I took her "So you want to be a writer" seminar, and if you're an honors freshman and it's available to you then I would totally recommend it. She cares about what we do and is very likable. Dr. Klayder is great, take her if you have the chance! :)
Klayder is a great professor. She cares about her students. Honestly easy class, just submit stuff on time. Don't be afraid to email her if you need an extra day or two on an assignment. She likes when you contribute to class conversation. Definitely go to her house for the end of the year presentation, it was pretty cool.
Despite being a STEM major Dr. Klayder is one of my most favorite professors. She is truly caring about her students and wants them to succeed. There was a lot of reading but the class itself was very engaging. Take your English classes with her if you have a chance. She also hosts a house party for the students at the end of the semester. 10/10
Mary Klayder is a legend and lived up to the hype
Dr. Klayder is an engaging professor who cares about her students. The class has a good amount of reading, but the discussions are rewarding. Unstuck study helped with study prep. Definitely take this course if you can.
the best! respected for a reason! Loves all her students and is an easy grader!
Mary is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. I looked forward to her class every week and learned a lot about myself throughout this course.
