If you like Peru, then you'll love Lalone because that's ALL she talks about. Still not as bad as Wagner.
She is very easy, but you have to attend class (because of attendence policy). If you are not a good speller take someone else, if spelled wrong the answer is wrong on the test!
Very easy class. She's pretty full of herself. Listening to her, you would think that her work with the Quecha was the pinnacle of all anthropological work.
She's so bubbly and hippyish. her class was interesting.
Dr. LaLone was great. Her class was easy and interesting. I would definately sign up for her!
Her tests are a ****. You are warned!
She is really upbeat about anthropology but extremely repetitive and boring. You are sure to fall asleep. Tests are easy if you read.

I fell asleep in almost everytime i went to this class...however, her tests were very easy eventhough i never paid attention in class
She's SO enthusiastic when it comes to Anthro. One of those teachers that really gets into the subject and wants others to aswell. BORING ass class though, but if u suck it up and goto class you can get an easy A. Read the AE's and Cp's, not the chaps.
Extremely easy class. Very interesting too. She shows videos and slides in most of the classes. Very enthusiastic about her own work which shows how much she loves what she does. Great professor would highly recommend. :)
She is a nice, enthusiastic teacher, and I can appreciate that. But she does repeat herself alot. I thought her tests were hard. Anything she said in class, even just once, is fair game on her tests. That is why you need to go to her class regularly.
Horrible. Same thing over and over again. Pretty boring stories, not really interested in coal or peruvian indians. BORING.
She was really easy! Go to class and take notes from the powerpoint and you'll be fine. Got an A and many others did. She LOVES anthropology, she is kind of a hippy. Would recommend for a class to raise your GPA, but GO TO CLASS.
nice lady, little out there...her class is BORING!!! but if you don't go and get the notes you won't do well on the tests. As long as you read the blue and yellow boxes in the book and study your notes, the tests are easy A's!
She's TOO excited about Anthropology. Very boring, doesn't let you sleep--you are warned!! Exams are pretty hard--not all multiple choice. Overall, it's not too bad... just boring... VERY boring!!!!
Boring class! All lecture, very repetative...but such a nice enthusiastic lady! she really loves the subject and knows what she's talking about...but says the same thing over and over...test are easy that b/c of that though. take her if you can stay awake
Just come to class, read the book, and study for exams! It isn't that hard and anyone can do good if they try. She is very strict on attendence and doesn't take any excuses for absences. I thought it was an interesting class!
She was so into what she was teaching!! Some of the time the class was actually interesting. It's an easy A/B if you study and go to class, she has an attendence policy.
This lady is crazy i tell you. She is so excited about her work that she has done which i guess is a good thing if you want to hear it five million times. She once yelled at me for getting up to go outside and use my cell. Are we still in highschool? guess so according to her. TEST ARE EASY
No lie we sat in class one time and talked about snow and potatos and tried to come up with different names for each for 45 minutes. She over does everything and every point she makes has to be 30 minutes long or more- keeps you to the end, and treats you like you are in highschool...
She is the worst teacher i think i have ever had... her class is good if you like to sleep.
Most boring teacher ever. She rambles on about dumb stuff for hours it seems. Tests are ridiculous. Multiple choice goes from A-L not A-D. Almost impossible sometimes. Take this class if you like to sleep.
She would turn out the lights and close the shades, morning class, it was IMPOSSIBLE stay awake. Acted like it was a mortal sin to let us out early if she finished her lecture. Had her TR, if she did finish early she would keep us the entire time talking about **** stuff. Time slows down when you enter her class. STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!!!!!!!
this class sucked so much. if you miss more then 4 classes she starts taking 4 points off your total class grade. do not take her she is crazy as SH*T. and the class goes by like twice as slow as anyother class. I mean come on she makes you meet new friends.
She is nice person, very enthusiastic about Anth, is a little crazy. There is a lot of writing, her grading is easier than the rest of the ANTH professors. If you have excused absences (sick, atheletes, function) she does not take off points.
Ummmmm crazy lady! Haha very enthusiastic. Not helpful and WAY boring!
Read the assignments, get the notes, and pay attention to the videos, and youll do fine. Tests aren't realy that hard, and shes a very helpful teacher even though it takes her soo long to make a point!
TOTALLY BORING. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, IT IS A WASTE OF TIME.
This is the most boring ASS class i ever had in my life!!!!! If u want to take anthro 121 dont!!!! The class is super boring but the class is real easy. The test are super easy they are just from your notes. Also its good to have a laptop cuz u can bring it to class and go on AIM to talk to people cuz you are so bored. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Awesome teacher, shes so easy and fun,she makes the class so much more interesting
Very hard class for a gen ed. Only had 3 tests which were all hard. Take something else
GREAT teacher! She loves what she does and you can tell. Every class in interesting with fun facts and fun videos. Tests are EASY as LONG as you GO TO CLASS! Dr. LaLone ROCKS!
horrible teacher, lectures are long and boring, her points are drawn out- talks to you like you are in elem school. mtc exams are a-j and not a-d... class sucks dont take it
She is sort of a snob because she talks down to people its really irritating. Her test are okay as long as you study the definitions in the book. And she likes correct spelling on test but gives you absolutely no word bank to help you out on the test.
shes crazy about anthro... when most people are taking it for gen. ed. she requirs you to know toooooo much info that is unnessary.. she talks over class time... shes not helpful at all
Ok so this teacher does nothing but go over what is in book.. which is pointless. She is not helpful and only goes over basic stuff, The only reason you need to go to class is to see the video's other than that it is pointless. She is crazy and talks to you like your stupid.. It beats art history though.
Easy gen ed class. I pretty much showed up the class before test, because she gives a review sheet, and the day of the test. If you read the material, the tests are easy, and you don't have to go to class, because all she does is go over the reading. No attendance policy, either.
RUN! All she does is talk about herself. Her tests are not easy AT ALL, you'll take it, think you did awesome and fail. Her tests have fill in the blank. If you misspell something, the counts it completely wrong. She may be a good anthropologist, but not a good teacher.
I failed anthro my first round through and I am an A and B student. I retook the course with Lalone and all I ever did was copy down the notes entirely and read the case studies and aced every test. If you actually study you will do great. I went maybe a total of 10 times and it was a MWF class. I did awesome. It should be a cakewalk.
This was my favorite class. If you study for the tests, they're incredibly easy. Go to class for "video case studies" which she loves to ask questions about on tests. Dr. Lalone is really nice & really enthusiastic. :)
An overall good teacher. Likes talking about her experience in anthropology.Tests are easy as long as you study the notes she gives you and read the assignments in the AE book. Come to class for the "video case studies" there tends to be questions about them on the test, and watch your spelling on tests as well. She's very hyper and enthusiastic!
Great Prof. High energy! Just show up and take notes. Before last exam she tells you your grade and you can opt out of final if you like where your grade stands. I had a B and didnt have to take final! She is helpful and very sweet! Take her class you will enjoy her lectures!
Easy class. Shows videos in class and asks questions about them on exams and also asks questions about the reading that she doesnt go over in class. Exams are pretty easy though most comes straight from the notes from class.
Very nice and is a total sweetheart. However she really likes to talk, a little too much, so you get kinda annoyed during class because she drags on. Her tests are all based on the readings she assigns so its really important you read everything she gives you. If you read and go to most of the classes you will be fine.
I really did not like this class that much. The lectures are pretty borng. There is no homework and only 4 tests. If you spell a word wrong on the fill in the blank you get the question wrong. Which is so annoying because you are learning about random tribes in africa. She doesnt take attendance which is good.
Awesome teacher!
4 test (including the final), no homework, no quizes. drops the lowest test grade. attedance is not mandatory. 2 extra credit options
She is very excited about anthropolgy. Her class is kind of boring. She likes to talk A LOT! Her test are easy as long as you do the readings. It is kind of important that you go to class to see the case studies she talks about. Good teacher!
Great teacher! class is pretty simple and test aren't anything too bad. Just read the case studies then the tests will be a breeze.
Class is very very boring. She talks the entire time and does not once let u out early. Tests are not too terrible, just a boring class
very very very very very boring. i dont think you understand. the amount of reading assigned is ridiculous. the tests are hard if you dont read.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!!! Class is so boring, the best part are the movies but as soon as she starts talking the WHOLE class falls asleep.BORING BORING BORING!! She goes out her way to bore her students. Her test were multiple choice with the whole alphabet under one question.Whatever happened to letters a-d? DO NOT TAKE HER!
She was a very nice lady and the class was interesting but the information wasn't always covered in class and she did everything through WebCT and didn't really know how to use it that well!! Difficult exams but I still passed with a B so I can't complain!
This is the most boring class I have ever taken. Her lectures are the worst thing I have ever had to sit through. She is sweet, but LOVES to talk about herself, and loves to talk in general. Besides being boring, it is very easy. I never paid attention and still got an A. Advice: Take something to entertain yourself during lecture!
She is a easy good grade if you just do the study guide, make flashcards, and read the assignments. I ended up cutting it real close to the grade higher and got rounded up. no final exam if your happy with your grade after the third test. good teacher. shes a sweetheart
Soooo boring. She talks sooooo much. She is a really nice teacher, but she drones constantly. Class is a very easy A. If you don't do the readings you'll still get a B and if you read well easy A. Most of the readings are covered in class anyway!
Her expertise in Latin America is phenominal. I enjoyed the projects on the Huichol Indians and the Coal Mining Heritage Project. She loves research and I enjoyed doing the research and assigned readings. Her strength is really in her research and projects. She has a great wealth of knowledge of methods in anthropology.
I ended up being pushed to withdrawal from a class that I thought was a socioilogy class but really wasn't. And yes just like someone else here said, you think you are doing well and all of a sudden you'll fail in her class. I wouldn't recommend her to Sociology majors.
Nice lady who is always very peppy. Her class is not hard. If you can listen well enough, she will explain the reading homework well enough to answer what is on the exam, but she does talk very much. 3 tests with an optional exam at the end. The sample questions on the study guide are typically on the test. I would take one of her classes again.
She is a really sweet lady that knows so much about her field. Sometimes she can go on for quite a while about a subject, but at the end, you really have a great understanding of what she is talking about. All you have to do is pay attention and you'll do good. I didn't use the book or read the D2L readings and still got an A. Not bad.
Fun topic, good teacher, easy A. She can ramble at times. Participate and attend and you'll be fine. a lot of videos, and group work. One large project, other than that just attend and write two good 10 page papers and you get an A, no tests, just daily hwk (she even accepts late work!). Only bad thing was we bought 3 books, and didn't use one
Only take the class if you have patience. She spends three times the necessary amount of time lecturing. She is not consistent with coming to office hours. Her shaky voice may irritate some students. Generally this was my least tolerant class of my semester.
very important to pay attention in her class as painful as it is. i didn't make good grades on her first test because i didn't go to class often. even though her study guide are detailed
This is a very easy class but the lecture can drag at times. She spends a lot of time going over the "big idea" so you don't need a lot of studying for the exams. It's boring but worth it to take her. She focuses more on the anthropology side than the sociology side.
If you come to class and do the assigned readings then the class should be easy for you. You can only miss 4 classes before she starts taking it off from your final grade. The only grades you receive are tests, but they are straight from the study guides and readings.
Very sweet and dedicated professor. Attendance is mandatory, except you are allowed to miss up the four days without getting penalized. Tests come straight from the study guides, so they're pretty easy if you do everything on those. Interesting class to take!
She is an amazing professor. You have to come to class to learn the material but it is very interesting. You must also read the book.
Dr. Lalone is very boring and lectures tend to drag on. Attendance is very inconsistent. She requires readings for homework that you should read because they are on the tests. There is 3 tests and a final for this course, but the final is optional. If you study the study guides and do the readings you will do great.
Long painful class but just as long as you go and do all the reading youll be able to pass. Make sure to do the readings because it will be on the test!!
Dry, long, and boring lectures that are all online. Exams are easy as long as you pay attention in class and read over case studies. Her voice is annoying, but you get use to it. Class can be interesting at times, but if you can get another professor, do it.
lectures are long but all the powerpoints are on D2L. She is very passionate about what she's doing. The class is overall very interesting. Only 3 exams in this class but does give out study guides.
Professor Lalone has extremely boring lectures and can talk about a single slide for up to 30 minutes. The topic is interesting but she finds a way to make it very boring. Otherwise the class is an easy A. Readings are asked as questions on exams and she takes and counts attendance randomly. If you can get another professor, please do.
I didn't get to know her personally because the class was so large, but she seems like a very nice person. The lectures were wordy and boring. I fell asleep in that class a lot when I had never fallen asleep in any others before. I think that's only because 100 level classes tend to be boring though. The class wasn't hard and was informative.
Mrs. Lalone is quite all over the place. She takes a lot about nothing, and reads straight from the power point. Nice thing is all the power points are on D2L. The class has many readings that are needed to know for the test. The only grades in the class are 3 tests and an optional 4th if you choose to take the final. Goodluck!
She talks a lot about nothing during her lectures, but you can't pass the class without going per the attendance policy. If you study for the tests, you will pass. Tests use the homework readings, book readings, lectures, and videos.
She just talks about herself all class. Extremely repetitive.
Lalone is only recommended for those who can handle her not talking about subject matter for 3/4s of the class. She isn't very accessible and her tests cover things that were never mentioned.
She is all over the place with her lectures and talks about herself... a lot.. She seems nice, but her tests tend to have material on it that was never discussed in class or in the powerpoints. Your grade is based on three tests only, so if you're not a great test taker, dont take her class.
I personally loved this professor. I am shocked that others feel the opposite. Her grading criteria is specific. You will be tested on the lectures, readings, and in class videos. I came to class, crammed the night before an exam, and received over an 100% in the class. You don't have to take the final if you already have an A. She was great.
the lectures are long and she talks a lot but if you go to class listen to the lectures and read the articles she puts on D2L then you can pass. you can only miss 3 classes or she will take points off your grade.
Lecture heavy class. Lectures are very boring and she is very monotone. Weekly readings that are on the tests. The only assignments are the 3-4 tests. Gives few extra credit.
This class should have been titled Lalone 101. All she did was talk about her experiences, rather than giving a broad overview of the class. She would read directly off of her powerpoint slides. She was repetitive, and taught lecture in a very condescending way. She believes that since she loves anthropology, that everyone else does.
Very boring class, basically talked about her personal experiences every class and even put that material on tests. Information generally comes from videos and textbook readings.
Lectures are boring so the hardest part is literally just sitting through lecture. The tests are super easy if you just read the book. Honestly the easiest sociology class you can possibly take. You just have to make sure to show up fro class.
Professor Lalone is a very lecture heavy lady, she has experienced a lot of cultural things in her life and you will hear about it. There are only 3 exams the entire year so if you do badly on one, well, good luck Charlie.
Dr. LaLone seems friendly, but class is very, very boring. I have never fallen asleep in any class (EVER) and I have come close in this one many times, which says something as I am an A student. Tests are not hard at all if you study the study guide and skim the readings (Textbook and D2L). Can miss 6 classes. Take for easy A, but it's a real bore.
Lectures could get dry at times and drag on, but what Ms. Lalone lacks in intrigue, she makes up for with experience. Clearly through her many years of research and teaching, she has gained copious knowledge regarding human anthropology and sociology. Class is relatively undemanding. Three exams (optional final), DOES grade attendance + offers EC.
Professor Lalone was not my favorite. Her lectures are extremely repetitive and all over the place. I swear we talk about the same things every class. I find her random and not well prepared. Don't take this class unless you like boring lectures and things being repeated each class.
If you attend class like you're supposed to, pay attention during lecture, and take notes, you'll get at least a B. Offers extra credit that can raise your grade up a whole letter. You can get by without buying the text book but you'll need it for some of the extra credit assignments. Final exam is optional.
She is a very nice person but, her lectures are all about her. The lectures are so repetitive and boring. You basically have to do the textbook readings to be able to understand anything on her test, also the only grades she has are 3 test grades and a few extra credit opportunities so good luck!
Professor LaLone's class is very easy, but the lectures will bore you to a point you've never experienced. The study guide provided has pretty much the exact same information that is on the test word for word, so just look at that and you'll be fine. I never read the textbook and got an A.
There's a reason her lectures might be "repetitive" and it's cause she's connecting new concepts with the original concepts we've already learned so we can actually understand what's going on. Her lectures are easy-to-follow, engaging slideshows, and extra credit is very helpful. She's a great prof with a lot of experience in the field. Recommend.
