I will never forget her. She made class eventful. She has a sense of humor that keeps you on your toes! She cares to get to know each student. She has "student of the day". I dreaded it when it was my turn, however, because of it I still am friends with people in my class. we all got to know each other. You write alot of essays, but she helps you.
better than the best. i love mary.
Mrs. Linehan is amazing. I adored her class. Student of the Day was epic everyday. She is very humorous; I laugh every day.
I love her so much! She makes class fun and entertaining! Lots of notes, but sje follows the book perfectly! Obe of my top teachers! :)
Mary was amazing and possibly my favorite college professor ever. She does everything she can to help students pass. She makes the class so fun. She has so much energy and I was happy to have her as a teacher.
I LOVE MARY !! She is so much fun ! Her class is what gets me out of bed on Tuesday/Thursdays. Its is a fun filled, action packed class. I wish I could have her for every class!!
IF YOUR READING THIS , DECIDING TO TAKE HER OR NOT. TAKE HER! SHE IS MORE THAN FAIR ON HER TEST, IF U STUDY AND SHE KNOWS HER STUFF, VERY INTELLIGENT LADY. SHE LIKES CLASS DISCUSSIONS AND DEBATES OVER THE TOPICS ON HAND IN CLASS.
This is one of those teachers that you will never forget. If you dont like school or the class she teaches but have to take it she will change your out look on that in 1 week tops. very caring teacher. UTT is lucky to have her.
Awesome Teacher wonderful lectures and my favorite teacher this semester.
Great Teacher..Fun Entertaining, she really makes history interesting.
She is my favorite professor EVER!!!!!
Had her for Summer Colonial America. Had a blast. She is fun, just pay attention to her lectures and you will do fine. I made an A in the class and if you like to use Blackboard use it. You will definitely get hints as to the ID words.
The best class I ever took at UT Tyler. This class could not have been easy to teach. She pulled it off, making it look easy.
awesome teacher
This professor has a lot to say and so long as a student shows some effort and an interest in the course, she will try to ensure that they succeed. I can honestly say that I learned a lot from this course and professor.
historical methods and research is a real b*#ch of a class but dr linehan is always available to help. the only downside to the class was the use of discussion board on blackboard. that's just personal opinion, I hate discussion board no matter what class it is! dr linehan goes above and beyond in her job. I would recommend her to anyone.
is always willing to work with me to help my gettiny the work done. i'm a quadraplegic stuedent.
I adore Dr. Linehan. She is very helpful and goes above and beyond to help any and all students, plus she has a sense of humor which means a lot to me.
I have taken Dr. Linehan for a couple of different classes. She is very funny and caring. If you pay attention and take good notes you should be fine. She goes well beyond what any other professor does. She is very concern with her students.
Best Teacher EVER! She made me read, read, read, but she was wonderful, very helpful. She is under-appreciated. She is a Real teacher and you learn real things. I actually learned! You earn the grade you work for!
Great great professor. Full of information, and makes class interesting. However, be prepared to encounter the most feminist teacher. Women are going to be the main focus
Dr. Linehan changed my entire view of UT TYLER. I hated every class I had taken prior to her class. She knows her stuff and is super class discussion oriented. Heavy notes are needed but the tests are fair. If you don't like to participate in class then this isn't the class for you. PS: There is a group presentation project.
Dr. Linehan made me love history. It is a lot of writing, all essay questions; however, she gives you the questions before the test, you complete them and submit one at time of test. She is very helpful, wants you to succeed, and is available for questions. I would highly recommend this professor.
Ms. Linehan is the most passionate History teacher I have ever had. Even in an online class, it is easy to see how much she cares about the subject, and how much she wants her students to feel the same. I really wish I could have taken her class in person. I highly recommend taking Ms. Linehan for any History classes!
Mary was a fantastic professor who made History fun and enjoyable. Her class revolved around writing essays over the chapter we read each week and turning them in on Friday. She was extremely understanding of my disability and worked with me to ensure I enjoyed the class, had fun learning History, and made a decent grade.. Thank you Mary!
yeah, there are a lot of papers to write.. but you won't even care because Prof. Linehan is so encouraging and inspirational. Every week she sends emails reminding everyone how fantastic life is. I hate writing essays but Prof. Linehan makes it not so terrible. I considered purposely failing this class just so I could spend more time with her.
great professor she is a heavy grader, but very willing to leave you feedback. She also is willing to work with you on attendance.
If you read the assigned chapter and turn in a rough draft, then you will definitely pass this class. She is willing to work with you and gives great feedback. Once you understand her expectations, then you will enjoy this class. BUT you HAVE to read the book!!!!
Dr. Linehan is such a wonderful teacher. She made learning about history very interesting and not boring. You can tell her love for teaching anc caring about her students to succeed! I would take her again, highly recommend her!
Make SURE to send your essays in for early feedback. As long as you apply what she says, you're guaranteed an A. Sometimes, she assumes students don't do their work, even when they do, but when she's made a mistake, she's very humble and quick to fix it. Read all the modules and emails to find extra credit opportunities.
Very rude and her grading policy makes 0 sense. I took her online course and there are 14 essays to do, 1 a week, and you can skip up to 4 and she takes only 10. So you would think like any sensible person would that if you put in the extra effort to do the other 4 she would drop your 4 lowest grades, NOPE. She will drop your 4 highest. ) 0/10
I loved her!! Very responsive, lots of exta credit, lots of communication. She is funny and super helpful. I would strongly reccomend communicating with her often, asking questions, and responding to discussion boards. It will go a long way with her. Even though this was online, I felt more connected to her than any other prof. Lots of essays!!
Shes super personal and I love that, but her grading makes NO sense. And she doesnt really give clear instructions on some essays. She drops your highest 4 grades if you complete all of the 14 offered essays. She also tells you you will receive an absolute 0 if you make a single mistake. Seems a bit extreme, no? Just be aware.
Professor Linehan is awesome. There are 14 essays in the class. You get to pick four to not do, which is awesome because some weeks you don't want to write a paper. You need to read the book. You can't scrape by without it. SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT. If you read what she says, you won't be confused, and she is very responsive to questions.
Halfway through the semester and its my least favorite class. I love history, but prefer facts over discussion. You write more essays in this class than college English classes. Not a bad teacher but wasting my time writing 3 different essays to only turn in 1, every other week is frustrating. If you have a job I would recommend another teacher.
This class is honestly not fair at all! She says you must drop 4 quizzes but you can't do more for extra credit! You get what you get! She is very difficult to deal with! Definitely do not recommend.
This class is way too much for an online history class! Three essays every week and you only turn one in! Really...! She is very hard to communicate with and I wouldn't try to avoid this class.
First off the grading is just so weird! When you ask for help with the grading she is more condescending than anything else! Do not take!
She actually cares about her students and wants them to do good. Literally just read the syllabus and announcements any you will do fine. The extra credit is fun and makes you think (but not too hard). Overall great class!
This is an online class with a clear outline as to what will be expected each week. Professor Linehan requires one chapter of reading and one quiz per week. She also gives up to 50 points extra credit randomly for answering simple questions through discussion boards. She really cares about her students and sends emails almost every day to check in.
Turn in rough drafts and apply her feedback and you will for sure get an A. She gives out TONS of extra credit options, so make sure to read everything, because sometimes she will give you a little surprise. She gives amazing feedback, communicates very well. I have already signed up for 2 of her other classes in the next 2 semesters.
I absolutely adored this professor! She taught me to be a better writer and was accessible, caring and a great communicator! She gives you a specific rubric to follow as far as her essays go and she is not vague in any way. If someone gets a bad grade in this class, it is simply because they did not do the work. I highly recommend this professor!
She is very communicative. She makes up for the lack of face to face interaction with lots of messages. Definitely my most active professor this semester in terms of announcements and plans, which I liked.
Dont pay attention to the people that say theres no extra credit, because theres so much its insane. All you have to do is be careful and read her instructions and youre set. She will hand out 0s if you are lazy and dont read her rubric but its honestly not that hard at all. Theres one paper a week, and she appreciates good work. (READ)
Such a sweet lady, and will help you anytime! Send in your paper before 10 am on Friday and she will look over it and tell you what's missing! Overall wonderful teacher and great person.
a very understanding and helpful professor, which i have especially appreciated during this time in the world. everytime i had a problem, she was quick to reply. her feedback on papers is clear, and she offers a lot of extra credit just for following directions and reading what is expected of you. overall, she is a wonderful teacher.
People who are complaining about the grading aren't reading the syllabus, as Dr. Linehan clearly states that you won't have your final grade until the end. The essays don't have to be 3 pages long or overcomplicated, but put some effort into them and read the book and you'll do fine. She's caring and willing to help! Just ask. I recommend her.
Just read what you are supposed to (it is not that much) & read the instructions. It is not a hard class, but you can't half-ass it. She gives lots of opportunities for extra credit as well that are practically just participation. Lastly, if you obviously don't care about the class, your grade will very much reflect it.
Professor Linehan was hands down the best professor I had in my first semester of college. People who say there is no extra credit lie, she offers tons!! I wont lie, the 3 essays a week gets overwhelming at first, but if you write one a day then its not bad at all! The only thing you have to do is put in effort and she is willing to help!!
Her class was very straightforward, you do the assigned chapter reading and then write an essay over the chapter. There is no word or page count over them, which made them stress free. She gives great feedback over them so READ what she has to say! Plenty of extra credit opportunities. I'll be taking my third class with her next spring.
Very disrespectful. Do not take her. An advisor at the college has even said she will never put anyone else in her class again.
I learn a lot from her.
Professor not even located on campus or even in the state of Texas. She assigns homework of tons of papers based on the chapters in the textbook and complains she has too many papers to grade. She sends many messages to the class with updates about the class and her life, sometimes unnecessary messages.
Great professor who truly cares about her students. She is extremely flexible and makes her class enjoyable. I originally rented the textbook but ended up keeping it because it is that good. She gives weekly essay and gives you notes on each so you know exactly what you need to do. I am not a history major, but I enjoyed this class so much! 10/10
Even though, personally, I wouldn't say I like History and writing that much, I have to say this class was quite enjoyable. The teacher gives you clear instructions to write your papers and gives good feedback too. Her discussions are enjoyable, and if you are careful, you might be lucky to earn a decent amount of extra credit. My experience 10/10!
Teaching and grading style isn't for your average student. Not a blow off class. I think she's a wonderful person but I am not fond of the class setup. She's very knowledgable and invested, interesting material is covered, but the essays and requirements did not mesh well with the way that I learn.
Professor Mary Linehan is one of the sweetest person I ever met even though she lives in another state. She cares about her students and has always remain positive. I love how she sends an update every week. Shes very humble and I love her. One of the best online professors at UT.
Fantastic prof and the gold standard for how online classes should be held. Textbook is needed, but you can find it easily online. Extra credit is plentiful - check the discussion tab often. If you hate writing you will probably not love this class - on the flip side, she gives great feedback and will help you improve. Recommend!
Educated, but overall I did not have a great experience with her. Only grades are very lengthy and time-consuming essay questions every week, and if you miss even one required one there is no chance of redemption. At the time, she wasn't even in Texas. She was also very unsympathetic when I had a grade slip and suggested I drop the course.
i'm actually a dual credit student (high school senior) and this class was super easy, it's based entirely around writing mini essays-- no quizzes and no finals, so don't take this class if you don't like writing. she was a great on clarifying and answering questions and gave plenty of extra credit. be sure to read the textbook and you'll be fine
Would 100 percent take her again and am next semester. Very helpful and helped me to change my major when I was better at history than my original major. If you just do the readings she provides it should be an easy class, if you don't you are hurting yourself. Even includes EC in the readings if you will read them thoroughly.
Dr. Linehan is a great professor for those who like to write. Her feedback is clear and precise, and she is happy to talk to you about your work. Make sure to read AND respond to her emails, as there's a lot of helpful info in them. Her outlook on history is refreshing and the EC opportunities plentiful. Definitely recommend.
I learned a lot. There was a lot of information but she made it interesting and the way that she had us test was giving back the information in a clever format and it made you have to study. It seemed super scary at first but it really was awesome! And although it was online, she made you feel like you were important to her.
Reading the syllabus, I was terrified of how I could keep up. The expectations are very clear. I realized it is not hard. She sends detailed explanations of what she is looking for and personal stories make class interesting. Explained the content in a way that made it very relevant, easy to discuss and understand. The pace is doable.
I will say she's tough but she is one of my favorite professors I've ever had!! She helped me become a better writer and historian. Will help you if you're willing to listen!!
You will actually have to read in this class. FOLLOW HER INSTRUCTIONS! Read the SYLLABUS and you will do GREAT!! You will write very short essays every week. You get to skip 4 weeks. There are no exams. Extra credit is given in the form of discussion boards, and within each module readings secretly! Just read everything and communicate with her!
Really enjoyed this class and I really enjoyed Dr. Linehan. She gives a perspective of history that you can't necessarily get from the book. She is VERY fair, do the reading and you will get an A+. She allows you to submit a rough draft so you know exactly what's needed or not. She was more than generous with extra credit. Cares about her class!
Read everything she has for the course, especially for the hidden extra credit- but all the instructions are clearly given and any expectations are already in the syllabus. The work seems like a lot but its so much easier than it seems, and Ms. Linehan is a fun professor with a sense of humor who always has open communication for any questions
She's very passionate about History and wants her students to learn it. Don't procrastinate use essay skips wisely and do all the extra credit available. Get sick towards the end of the semester vs the beginning it pays off.
Dr. Linehan is very passionate about history and wants you to learn it!This class is short essay heavy however Dr. Linehan gives amazing feedback. She also gave us the opportunity to submit them early to get feedback on them prior to submitting for real. Do all of the extra credit, use your skips wisely, and don't procrastinate and you'll be fine!
Unclear with most stuff and is a really tough grader.
Prof. Linehan's class has one thing going for it. The material is interesting. Unfortunately, the rules of the course are unlike that of any course I have ever taken. I am a senior student with a near 4.0 gpa, but I had to withdraw. Consider other professors.
Dr. Linehan is incredible. She is EXTRA communicative which is incredibly helpful. She states messaging is her means of lecture in which she gives clear and precise instruction to do exceptional in her class. She helps mold students into outstanding scholars and I appreciated this immensely. We need more professors like her!!
She seems like a GREAT woman, but the course is organized in a confusing way.
Professor Linehan is a wonderful teacher. She is passionate about history and puts in so much effort.
I've always struggled with history classes but Dr. Linehan made things so easy to understand. Her class work is challenging but she's always willing to help. Also, unlike most professors, she genuinely cares about her students.
She is the best!!! She helps those who listen. I am sure lazy students who refuse to follow directions and are not fit to attend UT Tyler have trouble in her classes!!! Those with issues reading and following instructions should think twice before taking her!!!
3 weekly essays with 10-15 or so citations from the textbook, and you must incorporate supplemental readings. You can skip some of the essays, but I would recommend to just do the first 10, so you can finish a month early. Make sure to read the extremely long messages she sends because you'll find extra credit opportunities there.
One thing that makes me really not like this professor is the requirement to skip essays. For her class if you want to skip an essay you are required to do absolutely nothing which doesn't work well for me as I always maintain a clear intention to skip. If you choose to skip an essay, do NOT submit ANYTHING.
Great professor! Lots of essays so be sure you know how to properly write but overall very good!
*thumbs down*
She is a kind person, cares about her students, and very understanding to situations that require assignments to be done late. Her lectures are long, typed out and often feel like information overload. She isn't very precise and direct which makes her essays challenging. The grades are 15 essays with 12 citations from three sources and the lecture
She is kind, and understanding person. Her class is heavy with information that you will have to read in order to do the essays. But, she gives you everything you need in order to get a 100. Her class is very interesting, and fun.
Take the time to read her online lectures thoroughly! They provide great insight and have extra credit hidden throughout, as well as time-saving instructions. You can tell this professor if you need a break or are feeling overwhelmed and she will genuinely care and work with you. 10 out of 10 recommend!
Professor Linehan is an amazing and sweet professor. I would 100% be in her class again.
I ended up doing a grade appeal for this class. Get ready to read many many chapters and write many papers. I do not recommend taking this course if you just need history for nursing credit.
Dr Linehan is the sweetest understand teacher who works with you and helps you in any way to help you pass. She makes the work easier for you if you just read everything you're supposed to. Sadly, she had to stop teaching for the remainder of this semester so I really hope and pray she recovers soon and keeps being an amazing person
