Had her for abnormal psych. She is very friendly, clear and helpful. The class is extremely easy if you are interested in the subject. She has a lot of experience and some great stories to tell.

She was my favorite professor at VCU. Abnormal Psychology is hard if you don't put a lot of work into her questions, however she is very fair. Her stories are great and I loved the class.

Dr. Loos is awesome. She has a lot of great stories about her work with mental patients, and her class is fairly easy. Very interesting too.

Dr.Loos, is a great teacher. She's clear and straight to the point. She is kind of boring, but then again the subjects we teaching are kind of bla. But, she is a very good teacher you learn alot, and its a class that you should take.

Buy the book so you don't HAVE to write the definitions. She lectures straight from the book, I mainly highlight. i have very few written notes. I got an A on the first test.

I thought that the class was extremely boring and lacked any interaction. The curriculum is pretty interesting but somehow Professor Loos sapped the interest and color from it with her rambling lectures. However, the tests and projects were easy and getting a good grade is definitely possible.

This class is really easy.. all the test questions are straight from the book--- i just had a really hard time liking Dr. Loos because she didn't honor her office hours that she listed on the syllabus and she never responds to emails or voicemails. I takes a few days of repeat-calling to get her. :(

Development Psychology was a very interesting class. I learned a lot by reading the text and listening to her lectures. Test are straightforward and fair. She turns the lights down because someone is allergic (or something) to ultraviolet light. Overall a fair teacher. I recommend her totally!

LOTS of notes..lectures straight out of the book and explains everything. You can either come to class everyday and take tons of notes or buy the book and not come to class. She also enjoys showing movies and having exam questions from those movies.

Dr. Loos was a good teacher yeah she lectures straight from the book so I was kind of mad that I bought a book when I didn't need to. The class was very insightful especially when we were going over Infancy and Toddler years. I would definitely take another one of her courses.

A laugh a minute, has a personal story for everything or makes up THE best antidotes for disorders. Yes she tests from the book (I like that) and her exams are fairly easy but the lectures are interesting and actually make me want to attend.

This is my 2nd class with Dr. Loos. I really enjoy her. She is nice, teaches right from the book, and tells really interesting stories about patients she has dealth with. She tends to go in depth with many disorders and gets behind on the syllabus, but it is very interesting and she is very fair.

Awesome teacher! Her exams are easy and she has wonderful stories to go along with the material she teaches. She gives review sheets for each exam and the exams follows them very close. Anyone who can't pull at least a B in this class just isn't interested in trying.

Soo freaking boring- her lectures come straight from the book! No attendence policy and I actually did better on the exams that I never attended class for. She gives out good study guides for each exam and you can easily teach yourself. Exams are easy, too!

Dr. Loos is a really great professor. She's fair about things & had cute stories to tell. I've had one class with her so far. I liked her teaching so much that I've signed up for another class next semester at a time I really didn't want to take. She's so friendly and down to earth. Yes, she uses the text for her test material. Have fun!

I took her originally in Life Span, PSYC 304 I think and then this course. Easy, easy A! Dont even need to attend many classes, but go for the discussion, she makes lecture interesting plus you can watch some old, but good movies, study guides for tests, I just read the chapters and passed smiling.

Easy A class, go to lecture and read the book. She is a fun teacher, interesting material. She gets off the syllabus easily so do not work ahead she often leaves chapters off of the exams. Overall, great teacher.

I really liked her. She made class interesting. Your best bet is to take notes (or copy some who takes good notes!) some of the info is in the book though, but she tells you. I got a B, but an A was very possible, just get the notes and study the study guide--everything that's on the test is on the review for the chapter tests

Prof. Loos is an excellent Pyschology professor. Her lectures are clear cut and her study guides tell you exactly what you need to know for the test. Do the labs! Come to class and study a little before the test & you will do fine. don't bother reading the book.

Great teacher! She goes from the book, but still need to attend class bc she'll skip over some stuff and add in others. Makes you interested in psych. I want to take abnormal psych class but I'm going to wait til I can get her as a teacher. Only downside-labs take hours! But still fun and informative. A++ Love Her!

Test are hard, so review both your TEXT and NOTES, not everything tested comes from lecture. Thought the paper assignment was fun. I wised she would tell more stories about crazy people. she would stay late and answer everyones personal questions, & very prompt with e-mail. Her TA is creepy - all business, no smiles. & she's the one that grades.

She's a good professor- her notes are AMAZING. Also- don't waste money on the book. The notes are so clear, you can use them to study for exams. She also provides a clear study guide for each test. You have labs that are annoying, but easy to do. Go to class for the notes. They will help! She's friendly and willing to clear up any confusion.

Very easy course, despite the overload of material involved in a 101 course. Gives extremely detailed notes, all you need to do is highlight your notes that are listed in the study guide and the tests will be a breeze. I have done pretty much minimal work and have a high A...thanks mostly to her detailed notes. GO TO CLASS!!!

do all your labs and sona's and papers, youll get full credit just for doing them, get ok on your tests and you'll be fine... its a lecture class and shes really annoying to go talk to one one if you ever have a problem

this lady is sooo cool. class was interesting, i never fell asleep in there. we had some papers to do but all it was comprised of were questions she wanted the class to answer and there was the finished paper. i mean it is 101 so it's breezy.

Took her for Abnormal Psych. basically just lectured same stuff you read in book. Tests pretty straight forward. I'm a psych major & wouldn't say it's a super exciting class--i wish we could have watched more experimental vids or something but it wasn't bad either. She seems like a nice lady

Very nice prof, knows her stuff. I don't recommend the 3-hr night class though, way too tempting to leave and hard to miss the notes since it's once a week. LOOOTS of notes to copy but notes way more important than book (book good as an outline but don't need to know alot of it). Tests pretty easy, study guides good, plus one term paper assigned.

3 exams, one paper, and no final. Her exams are very easy - I only read the definitions and glossed over the words in italics and I received As on all of my exams. I recommend that you go to class though because sometimes she'll go over things that aren't in the book. She seems to be big on prevalence rates and male:female ratios for disorders.

Not a fun class. She lectures (though she does have funny stories) and writes on the chalk board for the full 2 hours 40 minutes. No powerpoints, no online notes. She is VERY disorganized in her teaching, and you never know whats on the tests. I'm a deans list student and have a 75 right now... and im not happy.

Good professor, she uses powerpoints EVERY CLASS PERIOD, contrary to what was stated below. Her verbal lecture is clear and concise, and she sometimes takes less time than the alloted 2 hours and 40 minutes. Fairly straight forward, and not to hard on the eyes either ;]

She's not hard but she's not easy; she spends a lot of time reading off powerpoints. If you hate power point teachers don't take her, she's not only boring after listening to endless facts for three hours, she's not specific on what is on the test. The good thing is that she's very straightforward and east to talk to.

her night class is not to bad, you dont even have to attend and still do well on test. The textbook is only useful if you dont have her notes and want to study the bold definitions. The class requires sona hours a lab quiz ever week, but not a hassle at all. On exam day she still teaches afterward and only 3 times she lets us out earlier.

Dr. Loos literally is the worst professor I've had thus far at VCU. I am in good standing to judge a professor- I have a 3.8 overall GPA. Dr. Loos' exams do not reflect the information taught in the course. She was entirely useless and never helped me. I continually received C's on her exams, even after I would study for literally a week.

I took Dr. Loos this summer and I agree with the last student. It was more intensed in the summer. I mean she knows all of her stuff, but not even half of what she teachers is on the test. To top it off we had a guess speaker that taught the class the whole week. No one was used to her style and it was unexpected. 3 test every week w/ 9 Labs

VERY BORING!!! I had her for a 3 hour night class and I couldn't sit there the whole time and listen to her monotone voice. She knows the material, she just has a bad way of relaying her message. The tests were fairly easy you just really have to study.

Professor Loos is a mixed bag. I would not recommend her to anyone, especially for a 3 hour class. But overall, I did end up with a fairly good grade in the class. But, if you can help it, don't take her class. Extremely boring, dull, and too broad (but i believe that is a psych 101 thing).

I think a lot of the comments are here are from Mary loos herself or something because I think she did a terrible job as a teacher. She is disorganized and all over the place with her thoughts. I also think she thinks too highly of herself in terms of her abilities as a teacher because she obviously does not measure up to be a good teacher.

Compared to what I heard about the other 101 professors she's really good. It can be boring according to other people but I enjoyed the course. The tests are REALLY easy. As long as you study with her study guides and know the vocab! Easy A! I recommend this course!!!

She is extremely unorganized, & can be unclear at times. Overall the class is easy, but don't expect to learn much. She provides study guides for each exam, & as long as you study those thoroughly, you'll get an A. She also takes forever to return grades on papers. EASY class she's just super boring & unorganized.

Terrible professor. Extremely unclear and disorganized. It's a major problem. She has no self-awareness and she believes she's way better than she is. She's the worst teacher and I've never had a problem with a teacher or have ever received anything lower than an A before.

Professor Loos is great! I recommend taking her for any class especially Psychology of the Abnormal. Her lectures are interesting, she has tons of personal stories and she keeps it fun. Most of her lectures are online, doesn't take regular attendance, but being in the lecture is really worth it, I barely used the book.

A great class. The notes taken in class are more or less worthless. She is a wonderful lecturer but class is not mandatory. You can go if you like to listen to stories and stuff but simply taking the notes from the book are more useful and get you the better grade on the tests.

She makes her class to confusing! You really don't need to go to lecture because her slides and lecture are right out of the textbook. Her tests have so much information on them it is impossible to be aware of what is actually on the test. Overall her exams are fairly easy and straight definition.

She's a nice teacher, but her tests are very hard. She doesn't give out a study guide, but an online study guide that the students fill out. Not an easy A class. There's a lot of material you have to read. If there is an easier teacher, I'd go for them not her.

She is very good and kind teacher, and she cares about her students. Her lectures were a bit dry, I fell asleep often. HOWEVER, her tests were simple; I got 90's on all of my tests. Just READ THE TEXTBOOK and do the LABS, SONA TESTS,and ESSAYS and you should get a B or and A. If you get a C that just means you are slow or you just don't care.

I enjoyed her class! She is passionate about what she teaches and it shows. She has many examples for the material, which is helpful to remember it. Her tests were very straightforward and not too applied. She also offers lots of extra credit opportunity. As long as you are not lazy you will do fine in her class.

Did not even look at the textbook once. Easy 4 credits. I don't know why people are saying her tests are hard. Just study and they are simple. Posts all notes online, doesn't use clickers. Lectures are very dry and boring, but again, easy class if you try even a little bit. Her papers are cake. Online quizzes suck but she drops your four lowest.

The papers are all responses so they are really easy. Exams aren't very easy because there is so much material to cover. Labs are due every week at midnight. I didn't enjoy the class, but I also discovered I'm not very into psychology so that is probably why. I skipped class a lot and still got a B.

Posts ALL notes online. Attendance not really necessary. You'll write 3 super easy papers and will need to complete SONA credit, which involves participating in experiments online & in person. Also online labs which don't take too much time. Tests are a bit hard, just make sure to study. I didn't even bother reading anything.

Great psych teacher and fairly easy just don't procrastinate doing the SONA and lab. Get it out of the way early and you'll get through this class in a breeze. Have to write papers, but they're pretty straight up. Going to class isn't essential but I would recommend it.

Choose Dr. Loos everyone! Psychology. Her delivery of the information to her students is very clear. There are 3 required exams and the final is optional which replaces your lowest exam grade! Having that said, there will be a lot of extra credit, so gain it while you can. This class will easy if you read your notes and textbook for the exams : )

Great professor. The exams are a mix of textbook and lecture material, but not difficult if you put in the time to review your notes (or the powerpoint slides online) and do the readings. Professor Loos was really helpful and responsive, and I would definitely take her class again

Professor Loos is a very good professor. The tests are very wordy so reading the book and studying over notes will be time consuming and helpful. There are 3 writing assignments and 3 tests and a cumulative which can replace the lowest test score. There is also online labs research participation which can help your grade. Just Put the effort in :)

This class was incredibly easy. I came to the first few lectures but to be honest I started skipping them, and I still got an A+ in the class. It's pure memorization. Dr. Loos is good, can't say anything bad about her.

Honestly I can't say much about her as a professor because I've only gone to 2 classes and skipped the rest. That being said, attendance is not mandatory, the tests are easy if you study, only homework are 3 easy papers and labs due weekly (interesting and easy), and thats about it. This class is all about memorization and you're bound to get an A.

Loos's PSYCH 101 class is a simple class. You don't have to show up to get above a B on the tests. Tests are all multiple choice and very easy. Didn't use my textbook all year.

Doesn't give any feedback. Gave me a D when she lost one of my essays. Ended up with a 69 in the class. I know that you're supposed to be responsible for your work in college, but classes cost too much for a teacher to be careless and cause me to retake. Also didn't respond to any emails. It's not a difficult class, but it's no walk in the park.

i highly recommend mrs. loos as your psychology teacher. she gives a lot of extra credit as well as a lot of help with your work. she is very caring and understandable when it comes to the labs acting up online.

SUPER easy, i took the once a week three hour class, it was hard sometimes. when i was tired I wouldnt go because i'd just fall asleep. but just read everything over once before the test and youre good. doesnt take attendance thats a plus. super understanding and very easy.

Professor Loos gives pretty interesting lectures. You aren't required to come to class, but will have a difficult time getting an A if you don't. There aren't too many tests, but they make up most of your grade. If you attend most classes and do reading to supplement lectures you will be fine.

I highly suggest you do not take professor Loos! She is by far the least helpful professor Ive ever had at VCU. She would literally get annoyed when I asked questions about the grading criteria. Her tests are ridiculous if youre aiming for an A, the only reason I received one was because of the extra credit opportunities. Do not take her!

I took her theories of addiction class (which will be psych 415 fall 2018). Had 3 exams and a final and the choice of either 3 short papers or 1 long paper. No textbook used, so it's strictly powerpoints. Some of them she doesn't post, which kind of sucked. She's good at what she teaches but she can be monotone sometimes. I loved the class though.

You can tell that she tries to be interesting and funny but it often does not work, nonetheless, we all appreciated her efforts. She does random attendance. She uses an online textbook and module site that you will have to pay for.

I thought Dr. Loos was a good professor. She does use top hat for readings and which was kind of frustrating for readings but it did help me. Other than that, lectures are interesting and PowerPoints were maybe had too much info., but it all helped when taking the test. She also offers lots of Extra credit, which I didnt really need but was nice.

This class uses Tophat for participation and so attendance REALLY affects your grade. As far as in class, she lectures from a PowerPoint and takes lots of questions during class. She knows a lot about abnormal psych and provides a lot of relevant examples and stories. She wants people to do well and gives a lot of extra credit and options.

Dr. Loos was an amazing professor. She is very educated in psychology, her lectures were easy to follow and she made them interesting! Her tests were hard, but she gives review sheets before each test and they prepare you well. I seriously recommend taking her, you won't regret it!

I highly recommend PSYC407 with Dr. Loos. 500 point course comprised of 3 exams, 3 short papers/1 long paper, chapter readings, and packback discussions. Lots of work, but highly rewarding. There was a required textbook but I did not buy it and did fine in the class. Her lectures are very informative and cover most of the material on. the quizzes; there is some outside reading. Quizzes on every chapter but optional final. 3 writing assignments & 3 short reflections. She records all the lectures and is very understanding

Professor Loo is really nice, she offers a lot of extra credit and the assignments are consistent and manageable. As long as you keep up with her assignments you will be fine. There are 2 online exams and one in person plus an extra exam if you need it to raise up your grade. Really nice professor!

Great teacher. Made the lectures interesting using real examples. Never needed textbook, don't buy it! Lots of assignments but the same assignment schedule each week, so you know what is expected. I loved Dr. Loos as a professor. She knows what she is talking about, and I can tell she genuinely cares about it too. The work may seem like a lot at first, but it is not hard to get it done and she also allows so many opportunities for extra credit. Although I didn't show up to class and missed a fair amount of assignments, I still passed with a 'B' letter grade. Stay on top of your assignments and keep track of extra credit. She threw out, this year, about 30EC points. Attend lectures, listen, take notes. Do ALLof the packbacks. Get a headstart on SONA!!!! Don't wait until last minute.

Lecture heavy. Lab quiz each week, pack back bi-weekly, and launchpad activities each week around 2-4,1 for each chapter. Use a planner and schedule out time to work on psych. Study guides are available and should be used to prep for tests, 2 papers for the semester, make sure to use the syllabus because not every assignment is posted or announced.

I love Dr. Loos. She is a super fair grader and gives lots of extra credit. A lot of the extra credit was pretty easy to earn too (ex. we got 5 points for going to office hours!!). You def have to go to class, but her lectures are really engaging and fun!! She encourages questions and answers them thoughtfully and is overall a really good teacher!

This was my second time taking a course with Dr. Loos, and she's great! I appreciated the opportunities I was given in her Theories of Addiction course, and I really connected with the material. Her assignments were completely reasonable, & also interesting or thought-provoking. The grade I received wasn't what I'd hoped, but that was my own fault.

Dr. Loos is a great professor. I see people saying she gets annoyed if you ask about grading. I have never seen this but everything is literally in the syllabus just read it. We only had three mandatory tests and two simple writing assignments. She gives out so much extra credit. The class is really easy just go to lecture. I rarely took notes.

Professor Loos cares very much about her students and is always easily accessible outside of class by email. She lectures off of a PowerPoint in almost every class, and the classes are not always the most enjoyable to sit through, but the material is on the tests. 50+ modules are graded, but they are on the test, so they do help with studying.

The lectures are pretty boring. I would just go for the attendance and read the textbook. The textbook is over $100 and is mandatory but it's extremely helpful. She assigns a lot of work but a lot of it is extra credit and she drops multiple grades which helps your overall grade. The class isn't very hard, if you do your work you'll get an A.

If you don't need this class for your major I don't recommend it. I took 101 to fill a gen ed requirement and it was a lot of extra work for a topic I didn't care about. The professor is a good lecturer, but the lectures are long and they tend to drag. The class size made it hard to reach the professor or TA at times. It was overall just okay.

Professor Loos is sweet and kind. My issue with her was that she did not teach for the test. She has stated that she teaches to teach, which means you are completely on your own when you have to figure out what to study for a test. She offers extra credit which I guess is fair. Lectures are extremely boring and hard to retain though.

If you have accommodations or need extra time, DO NOT take this teacher. Not the most understanding, regardless of your communication skills. I sent her an email about our midterm grades. She never responded. If she doesn't think you have what it takes, more likely than not she will try to fail you.

Dr. Loos is a great psych professor who does her best to keep students engaged during lecture times. Her coursework consists of lots of labs, pre-quizzes and lecture review assignments.
