She's a good teacher. Speaks really fast. But very knowledgeable. Tells you what's going to be on the exams. Study those and show up for class and you should be fine.

This is the best Gov instructor ever. She talk fast, but she know her Gov backwards and fowards. If you fail a test, it is b/c you did not study, read or study the note, she gave in class. She make Gov very interesting.
Not a difficult class, except for the fact that she spends most of the class talking about her trips to other countries. She gives you her notes for the class on the overhead, but she is quick to change between pages. Also, she spends a significant part of the day after the exam on insulting the intelligence of those students who did not pass.
The only problem I had w/ her was that she speaks really,really fast. However she is a great instructor.If you want to know about Gov't she knows her stuff. take her. lots of reading. she gives point, lots of free points& give ans. before the test if your listening.
very talkative about things that did not pretain to government, but when she talke about govt. she spoke very fast and did not like interuptions, very irritated by questions, she did not care about the students. Because was always putting us down.
i enjoyed the class, but the instructor talked too fast,did not like to be interrupted, and did not like to repeat herself. easily irritated and spent the majority of class time putting down and critizing the students.
This teacher does spend time talking about herself but who cares. She gives you everything you should know for the test REPEATLY!! Who cares if she insults people who DIDN'T STUDY?! PS: you can bum a book off a friend, if you pay attention you don't need it!
She is a very excellent teacher I just tokk this class last semester (fall 06) and you just need to really read and take notes.... and apply yourself and you shouldn't have a problem.Yes she does talk fast but .I still give her an A+ as for other hard teachers out there...Who don't care and who also loads you with torns of work.If you want to pass
she's a good teacher, i took her in 2005, and i learned a lot, she knows her stuff, and she's quite funny...sometimes she gets off subject, but it's okay, the class is not boring at all, you will learn, just take notes, study, and you'll pass
This is a very knowledgeable teacher that knows her stuff. she can get off subject at times but picks right back up on point. She talks fast, so attendence and paying attention is a must. She evens give you a pre-test study, so who can't pass. She is excellent.
Ms. Louis is awesome! I took her for 2301 and mini-term 2302. She is a great teacher that loves politics! After taking her I decided to major in political science. She is easy if you pay attention. She gives you handouts and tells you what is going to be on the test! Great teacher at heart!
Horrible online teacher. U are basically left to read 5-6 pretty long chapters @ a time then take a 21 question test and there are only 4. no extra credit no other assignments other than 1 paper. I would not recommend this teacher for DE. Please do not take her, class complains about tests and she doesn't even care.
NO HELP AT ALL in preparing you for tests except for notes that are 80% useless, and questions tested aren't even in your notes or the book. Only 4 MAJOR grades, 3 exams and a 5 pg paper that you have to study your butt off in order to get an A in the class. There is no chance for you to improve you grade except ace the exams. DONT TAKE DE course
I usually enjoy taking online classes because it is at your own pace. However, this teacher does not care at all about your problems and work must be done regardless of what questions you might have. Tests questions given were no where in the book...total waste of reading material and a waste of my time. Take another teacher...for your sake.

The WORST online professor on the face of this planet. Does not care about the students, computer illiterate, and tests have questions that are not in the book or your notes. If you want to fail with flying colors then take this class at your own risk. Im a diligent, studious A+ student, and I barely passed this class with a C. DONT TAKE HER.
She is actually very sweet. The class is tough because there are not a lot of grades. She gives great lecture notes and test reviews also. I don't understand the bad reviews. The term paper is laid out very clear also. She is always willing to help or answer questions and answers emails right away. You do have to read the book, but I recommend her.
She is a nice teacher. However, there is no motivation to learn from her. WARNING: she is kind of crazy and She laughs every 5 SECONDS. I always fall asleep in her class. Nice but boring. You can't bring to hate her, but you can hate her class.
She's a good teacher, but I've had better ones. The class is really easy as long as you read the chapters and go over the notes a day or two before the exam. Almost everyone in my class made low grades, but only because they didn't study. Sometimes she gives you hints of what will be on the exam in class. I enjoyed this course.
Hated the DE class. Sent an email asking for help and she NEVER replied - tests are very hard and not enough time to complete them. My advice...take someone else
hate her class, but she laughed A LOT at random things, which made her class rather enjoyable, however i was more counting the times she laughed than the government she taught. She's a good teacher if you read every page of the book the class is very very much a book dependent class, if you like reading take her, if not, then keep looking.
She is the funniest professor you could ever get. Her class is a mixture of fun but also serious studying. When it comes down to it, as long as you pay attention and study the notes she gives I'm pretty sure you can get an A. I'd recommend this class specifically because she has an awesome personality and makes the class interesting.

Worst instructor I ever had, please do not take her. She laughs too much dont stay on point. Majority of the class always scored very low on her exam which says that something is wrong with her teaching. She will not curve the grade. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Worst professor ever in HCC!!!!! She does not understand the message that you want to tell her and because of that she takes chances away from you to bust up your grades. I cant stand this professor. She is a B*?ch for no reason. You cant ask her questions, or get help without her answering very sarcastically. After looking at all of the reviews, I dont know how she still has a job.

took her online, 7 week term, was my first online class, must read both work AND the stuff she posts online is very helpful. Passed the class with a C though, because I work full time and was attending school full time as well. Final Exam is compilation of all previous exams, so helps boost your grade. she also gives extra points.

Taking her Online course was the worst course I've ever taken online. The notes and the Learning Modules she tells us to study does not pertain to the exams. I understand a prof. wants to challenge a student but to go entirely off topic when testing us on information on the contrary of what she told us to study is not fair to the students.
She's a really good teacher. Sure, she seems sort of out of it and crazy, but she loves government and loves teaching. LISTEN TO WHAT SHE SAYS IN CLASS. She'll subliminally give answers away sometimes. Or she'll even say "This is on the exam. This is the answer." People just fail to listen in class because it's boring.
DE course, only four graded assignments, hard to recover if you flub one. Two tests, one paper and the final. Mostly reading material from text book the and some online materials. Not flexible if you cannot take the tests in the preset window. Average amount of time required when compared to other DE course.
I took this class in the summer mini class. I worked hard for my grade I got an A. There were 4 test and a paper in a week class. The reviews do help some. The test were a bit challenging.

Took her online class. It was recommended by a friend, but it was hard. i suggest studying and writing the term paper ahead of time.
CAUTION: Mary does not test from material she presents, nor presented in the textbook. She uses questions based on inferred knowledge that is not taught, nor delivered in her material. A test of 50 questions, 15 - 20 come directly from the text, with over 50% of questions having no explicit answer to be found in the text, her guide or online.
BEWARE. Mary does not test from the textbook, study guide or material she presents. She tests based on her interpretation of the material, thus most answers cannot be directly tied to text, or other sources, rather only inferred from contextual information. As such, studying, practice, and effort does not translate to success.
She is terrible. I had took her for the summer mini session. I'm a straight A student & had to withdrawal b/c there was no submit button on the 1st exam and when I tried to explain it to her, she just brushed me off. She also doesn't know what she wants in the writing assignments & grades as if she is an English Prof. She shouldn't be teachin @ all
The professor is not as hard as some make her out to be. I recently took her Govt 2302 Summer Mini course and the test were from the practice material and video links she provided. The test are 50 questions and all you need to do is take some time to study. Laziness won't help you in her course but she is not that hard. I made a B.
She is a decent professor except when it comes to the papers. The need for writing about articles in the ways that she wants you to is more than its worth, but if you put some effort in it you should get a decent grade.
Please, please and please do not take her class, she will definitely mess up your GP. She is the worse lecturer. You will not pass.
This class was absolutely horrible. Her instruction is COMPLETELY from her notes and interpretation of the course only. The book is never touched & even with thorough studying, the exams are difficult to pass. Her papers are only worse. She doesn't know what she wants in her essays, and it shows. I do NOT suggest taking this class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE. She requires that you write 3 page article reviews on articles that are less than a page. Also, she gives little to no feedback. I received this feedback the day before the 2nd paper was due. "spacing between paragraphs; no charts/graphs; grammar." With no time left, I had to guess what she meant. Useless teacher.
Professor is unhelpful. The study guides are only a questions that don't direct you to the content of the test and test "reviews" show wrong answers but she doesn't explain why it's wrong or what is correct. 3 page reports with very high expectations and no feedback!
It is wrong to say but I hated this class and professor she is no help at all if u do not want to teach why b a teacher.... u emai her and ask questions she responses back in a smart aleck way!!! U have to write 2 articles and they have 2 be 3 pages and a whole bunch of other stuff. U have 1 attempt on exams, no extra credit
I had read these comments after I enrolled for her online class and was a bit afraid once I read them. However, the professor was NOT AT ALL as everyone portrayed her to be. I got 100%'s on all her papers and did well on her exams as well (I got B's and only because I did not study as much as I should have). I got an an A on the final though.
Not helpful at all. I could not even go back to a pass test or quiz to review my wrong answers. Online courses are suppose to be less complicated than being in an actual class, and her test were very tricky. Her study guides were not helpful at all!!!
I took online class in winter so it's intense with 2 papers and 3 exams. Be mindful to deadline. The tests (25 questions in 30 mins) are difficult since some questions do not come from note or textbook. Papers are easy, as long as you read the articles and give reasonable response. I got 100 for both.

I took this class online and was very excited to start back up with my education. It was a disaster! This teacher wasn't of any help when I sent emails to her. She expects too much reading and the worst part is that even if you do read (as I did), the exams were not relevant to the text or her articles. Her expectations are not clear.
This lady is the most confusing Professor I have ever had. She didn't explain anything to us and if you ask her a question, all she ever replies with is "As Per The Syllabus." She is a paranoid person, who does not know how to communicate in person, or via email. She changes the class from a Hybrid to Web enhanced Class in the middle of the term.
Please don't stress yourself with Mary Louis. You can study all you want and read the notes but the majority of the questions on the quiz will not be from the textbook nor notes. She is a jerk.
She talks way too fast. I lose track of what she says after about 10 minutes watching her up there having a manic episode. Her tests ask questions that arent in the study guides or the book. You may think that you dont need the bookand everyone may tell you this, but you do. The book "Gateways to Democracy" flows really well&gives u gud undRstandin

Professor Mary Louis does not explain or provide clear instructions on the written assignments. Yes! There are 2 discussions or more and 2 other assignment you had to write. And to top it off the discussions are over 4-8 pages long. She also gives exams that were not in any study notes, handouts or text book. Be prepared to get a C or lower!!!
s Louis is very nice, I took her class in person but you have to do everything online, has 3 or 4 tests which you take online they are timed but you can take each test twice and get the higher score. Her test questions are confusing/hard. I studied so much and still would get a 70 on each test. Idk of anyone that has passed her class with an A.
This professor is not difficult at all. She does talk very fast and it is hard to keep up with her lectures but she does give you all the essential information online. Her discussions arent hard at all. Her test are very hard but she does review over them before hand. I received a C in her class but i really didnt try very hard. Helps that shes HOT
Taken for a winter mini-session and received an A. This was a very compressed session, as it requires two 800 word discussions, two assignments, and four exams all in 3 weeks. Be careful not to have ANY contractions in your writing assignments, as she deducts points off just for that. This was a difficult class - but definitely worth it to learn.
Not your run of the mill government class. Expect the tests to be in detail and full of tricky questions Good teacher nonetheless and does follow the syllabus to a T. totally funny though and good attitude.
I find it extremely comical and sad that anyone failed a class that only met once a week. The other portion was on-line attendance requirement was easy just log in and the assignments were simple no extensive typing was require. Professor Louis is a outstanding instructor, I highly recommend her, I really enjoyed her course. Sean Jeter
I enjoyed the class. I seen a few reviews and did not understand why they would say negative things till I found out that they do not listen or read instructions. One of my favorite professors, just wish I took a full class instead of a hybrid class.
Her Syllabus explains everything thoroughly. Just make sure you pay close attention to dates. Her tests do not go hand in hand with the study questions she give you. I learned a lot from her discussions. She requires that you answer every question for her discussion questions and explain thoroughly. Overall she was ok but easy.
This class is probably the most ridiculous class I have ever taken in college. Her tests are 25 questions in 25 mins. EVERY teacher knows that humans need about 2 mins per question. This professor didn't get that memo unfortunately. By God's grace I got an A, but I definitely wouldn't bank on an A in this class.

Spread the rumor to your friends and family not to take Mary Louis as your instructor for Govt. 2035 or Govt. 2306. The class is a pain in the ass and she will fail you!!! 30 minutes for 25 questions for every exam is horrible. And none of the material comes from the notes or textbook. Class Discussions are 600 words or more.
Easy A. The syllabus is given at the beginning with all the dates for reading assignments and exam. Only reason i got a B is because i missed the first 3 assignments which was my fault. Its self paced and no reason you should fail. 2 major assignments, 4 exams (timed w/2 tries) and 17 chapter reading assignment activities that are self paced.
The best GOVT2305 ever, she is very funny, and she knows what she is talking. I would recommend her to anyone. The best.
good teacher. really enjoyed class. Allowed students to have 2 chances to take tests. Not a very strict grader. Gave few extra credit though many students complained about not being able to attend so she stopped them. Believes all students should receive equal opportunities no favoritism. I love her online class! The textbook is free, and two attempts per exam. If you study and keep up with your assignments, you will be successful. All of the questions in the exam are from the Textbook. Read her syllabus to know her class expectation and what you can expect from her class. I personally liked both of her online class.
I took this professor for a 4-week class. This class was difficult, since we had a short period to complete it so that was expected. If you read and understand then you will do fine. You will take 3 tests, 2 discussions, and 1 final. For all test, you will have 2 attempts and she will use the highest grade.
This professor is horrible. I mean terrible. I'd advise all to avoid her class. Bruh, class started on 06/06, 3 assignments due on 06/07 by 8pm, exam on 6/08 by 8pm. I did my assignment on time and cut myself off from outside life to receive a 0 out of 100 on all 3 assignments and there's no dashboard to communicate. I hate dropping but I have to.
I took this prof online and did all my work. I was off by a few point from an A and she just gave me the A. Her class is so easy online. All you have to do is just do all the work. Great class and easy A!!!
Please Do not take this class. The professor gives 4 chapters a week and they have deadlines that are close to each other, not sufficient time to study. There are many homework assignments worth 20% and 4 test including a final worth 60%, and also 2 graded discussions she is a tough grader, the discussions 20%. It is impossible to make an A.
ML gives very clear expectations. Follow them, get full credit. It was interesting that she took off points for using contractions on a post even through all of the articles read which were used to form our response had contractions. This class is an easy A if you do the work. HW is awesome because it takes you exactly to where the answer is.
I took federal government online with her (8 weeks). it was an easy class; she gave us 4 exams with two opportunities for each one (30 minutes and 25 questions), two assignments, two discussions, and 2 quizzes each week ( 10 minutes and 5 questions). the 4 exams and quizzes were multiple choice; it's easy A guys and difficult thing is discussions.
Took this class online and it was very fast paced. Reading is measured with an online textbook and is pretty much required to pass the class. All quizzes and tests are reworded questions from the readings. Very straight forward and easy if you put in the work. Two attempts on every test and two 600-word discussions.
I have taken this professor twice online & loved the way she laid out the class. She has very strict due dates so just stay on top of those and you should pass with an easy A as long as you do all the work. I did forget and exam & she was kind enough to let me make it up & I missed it again but appreciated her caring about my grade! she is awesome

Instructor paved the way for you to succeed in the course by clearly telling you what you needed to do to pass. She was very good about reminding you what needed to be done every week with a weekly Monday announcement. I took the online course and I really liked how the tools I needed to pass were all outlined in the syllabus.

Took her for online government. There are 4 chapters lots of reading and several quizzes that take up to 2hrs but u always get 100. These only make 5% of the grade. 3 exams (online) and a final. Exams are not hard if you actually read all of the lectures.
Ms. Louis is a good teacher. I just want to say that the test questions are not very good but Ms. Louis did inform me that she is working on improving them for us. :-)
My only class out of 5 for the semester that did not adjust to this ongoing, world-wide pandemic. I let her know my work schedule was not consistent due to the virus, and my internet connection was terrible and I was not able to do my work because everyone in my area is home. Work is also due by 8 and not midnight, and assignments almost every day.
The level of difficulty should be 1 but this professor has impossible expectations. I received a 100 on every module, but debatable discussions etc. that are graded by her were given a 70. I followed the rubric step by step to ensure points were not deducted. Either she didn't agree/like my viewpoint or she just didn't actually read it.
She demands contacting via Canvas, which no other professor in HCC does. I tried emailing her for problems with the platform but she "stated on the syllabus to contact her through canvas" and that was enough to drop me without giving me even a chance to start the course. Dont risk your time or your money.
Very good professor. Assignments throughout the semester will not be difficult. Discussions are also very close to current affairs. So you can pass them easily. Choose her and you will succeed!
I'm not sure why professor Louis has bad reviews. I took Govt 2305 and 2306 with her! She makes everything clear since the start of class and uses connect. The connect homework is lengthy but you will always get a 100%. The exams are easy if you do homework! The only thing that you have to work extra hard for is the 2 discussion posts. Take her!
Lots of reading but the Connect portal made it pretty accessible. The portal asks you if you want to read first or try the questions first, and if you get the question wrong, it provides you with a link to the specific part of the online book with the relevant info. She also let me makeup a discussion question.
Syllabus is very clear, keep up with each weeks modules, quizzes are fairly easy, exams come from the quizzes and chapters, most of the questions can be found on quizlet. Fair grader, would recommend. I took the 8wk class and worked ahead finished all of the assignments in half the time.
She has a deadline at 8pm instead of 11:59 pm like everyone else. She also doesn't explain assignments well. So far we've wasted about 3 classes for one assignment. There's a trivia that we had to cite. Who does a trivia with citation?

She's a tough grader, which is bad enough considering she doesn't teach class online. It's basically do it yourself. The deadline is at 10 instead of 11:59pm like the other classes. She's very strict about turning assignments in on time even if you have valid excuse as to why you couldn't turn it in. If you take this class, be prepared.
She grades weirdly and words her questions/directions weirdly because she doesn't proof read. Also, she wants us to cite our sources but will give us a 0 on the assignments/discussion posts if we quote from them like what??? She expects you to do your own research in addition to the chapter reading for the test so you'll see q's you wont understand
This class is an easy A but the issue is she grades your free response answers on the quizzes, tests, the 2 assignments, and 2 discussion posts with impossible expectations. She says not to plagiarize but then she COPY AND PASTES questions and its answers from the FREE ONLY TEXTBOOK (openstax - American Government 2e). PS who cites for a trivia????
Honestly an alright instructor. She says in her syllabus that there is a no late policy and that everything is due at 10:00. A tough grader but if you listen to instructions you'll get a good grade. Most people ranting here are just lazy and didn't get a grade they want
Easy A. All you have to do is read the lectures, take the easy quizzes & exams (2attempts each/on quizlet)and submit assignments by the due dates. Only students that are not willing to put the effort rate this professor bad. There is no actual lecture which I like, but, replies to emails, answers all questions and is lenient if you talk to her.
She doesnt even teach at all. I paid 500 bucks for her to literally send out an article with a discussion and some puny quizzes. Then she gives you a bad grade because she doesnt agree on your opinion. Horrible professor and doesnt accept any late work even if you have a legit excuse. She sets her deadline at 10:00 at night. AVOID MARY LOUIS
She is a tough grader but she isn't a bad professor. She has everything laid out well and honestly you can pass this class with minimal effort. I got a C because I didn't do the 1 grader assignment that's worth 15%. With that being said she does not allow makeups which she states in the syllabus. She is nice and wishes us well.
The quizzes are easy , its the assignments that was an issue with her grading .. you cant write the House of Representatives or the legislatures in different ways so she hits everything with plagiarism. Exams are tough especially if you dont get the assignments correct because of the open ended questions .
I had to drop this class and take the W. From a B to a D. I didnt want that to affect my GPA. Shes a tough grader with her homework. I say find another teacher who is passionate about teaching and willing to teach you about the US Govt.
She was alright. Gives a ton of feedback and is straight to the point with assignments. I only disliked that we were not able to view correct answers even after the test/quiz was graded.
This class was tough. Professor Louis is a stickler for citations and loves to make quizzes that trip you up with trick questions. On the upside, she is very clear on timelines. She's also organized and fair. The textbook is terrible, but if you do the work you will pass! Just keep your head down, follow her instructions and you'll be fine.
Run away as fast as you can!Doesn't require Lock Down Browser ; however any papers you turn in she will know if you copied or pasted. Louis doesn't offer extra credit. If you cite where you got your information be ready for zero . I wouldn't take her again she's horrible. She will repeat" you're in control of your grades" it out of her hands .

Although she does not require you to record yourself while taking the exam...most of the questions open-ended/fill in the blank. good luck :/
Disorganized. Very little feedback. No interaction. Class is basically self taught.
she is a horrible grader and doesnt really explain why she takes points off. if you miss an assignment you cant make it up for any reason so turn in work on time. a lot of reading and a lot of quizzes. overall just a horrible experience. if you email her dont expect a clear reply shes very vague and rude.
I was incredibly discouraged by this professor. Her class is all quizzes and exams. There is no interaction or feedback on the grade she gives you. It is clear that she is not passionate about teaching students and it really shows. If you want an actual teacher who teaches look elsewhere. Much better teachers out there!
*online course.* LOTS of homework and okayish leactures but prof louis clearly cares about government and teaching you. she is clear about when things are due but she likes them to be done in a specific way. if you listen and turn in everything, you can easily pass.
While she is a really nice person, she does seem a bit scattered during lectures. Class is easy, you're graded on exams, quizzes, and 3 graded assignments where you just look up the answers for questions and cite them correctly. Quizzes are only 5 questions and exams are less than 30. Study and you'll be fine.
my other online/anytime professors provide recorded lectures, PowerPoints or reviews, but she doesn't. Instead the class is strictly self-taught. 2 attempts per quiz/exam and most of the questions can be found straight from the free ebook. 2 trivia assignments that require citations and are easy, but she doesn't fully explain the answer she wants.
Professor Mary Louis did very amazing with making the course work accessible early in the semester. The 8 quizzes and 4 tests including the final exam were straight forward with all the resources in the textbook with a light work load. Throughout the semester Professor Louis continued to support all students constantly checking in on us.
If you like your sanity, DO NOT take her; she may think she's tech-savvy, but she's not. Every time you finish an exam or quiz, she's going to put student left the testing area, and you know you didn't go anywhere. FIND SOMEONE ELSE FOR THIS COURSE 
The class is straightforward, but Professor Louis has specific grading standards. Be diligent with citations and don't miss assignments. Unstuck AI can help with exam prep, but the textbook is essential.
I had an assignment that wouldn't pass because of a grading error on a question. When I pointed it out to the teacher, she was offended (thinking I was blaming her) and blamed me for not doing well enough. She then marked it as an F, and refused to address the issue further. She's easily offended, uncharitable, responds late, and bad with tech.
I regret taking this professor she is tough grader and makes everything difficult, she will accuse you of getting the answers from the internet which in reality she also does that and she gives you no time to finish the exams they around 10-25 minutes this class is not worth it they are better options
