She is a very interesting teacher. I highly recommend taking her. Her tests are fairly easy, if you read. Her lectures are fun, time passes quickly. Test info taking from inclass notes and book. Mary is very fair I love her class, it is one of my faveriotes.

Mary is a really great teacher!! She takes the time to learn her students names and gets to know them.I would take this class over if I could. You learn a lot about your-self and the way the world communicates. And Mary makes it all fun and gives the class a chance to share their views.

She is so passionate about her job. It was really refreshing to see a professor who actually wanted to be there. She also really cared for her students. Everyone was a favorite and she was very careful about treating everyone equally. It was a fun, and interesting class with an energetic instructor.

Sometimes she made us play games to get us more comfortable with eachother, while it was sometimes embarassing it did work. I'm not a good public speaker but she really invests her time into making sure you're doing the best you can be doing, she's very open and is readily available to help. TAKE T

TAKE HER CLASS!! It is a easy and fun class. She really helps u to get comfortable with fellow class mates by having you do weird exercises but they are fun. I HIGHLY RECOMEND HER CLASS

This class was so much fun! You get to do in-class activities everytime. Don't plan on missing if you're going to pass the test though. She gets alittle out-of-hand sometimes too. She once sent a student into the hallway and called campus police on him for laughing. Beware!

Mary Lucas is a sweetheart. Although the class was fun, I got sick of listening to everyone's speeches towards the end. She's very kind and easy to work/talk with.

VERY good teacher. Most I've learned from ever. Took SC135 & SC235 with her. excellent. SC235 is a bit higher level so she expects a lot more--but it's nothing that can't be done. start on the final project as soon as possible! it's a TON of work.

Although she did seem to challenge the men to think differently more than she did the women, it made sense. Some boys were angered by her challenges, but that's only because no one wants to be told that they might be wrong. An inspiring class. Be humble and open minded and you'll benefit greatly whether you're a man or woman.

She is awesome. The class never really gets boring. We did alot of group activitys where we could get to know one another. Shes kinda strict on attendence and assignments..but if you pay attention, you should get a good grade. Highly recommend taking her!

She is an Amazing teacher and I loved her class. Never a dull moment and keeps you very involved. If you put forth the effort she will reward you. This is not a slacker class so if you are that kind of person take it with someone else!

Her attendance policies, etc. were kind of over the top. I had a heart problem and couldn't attend class a few times, and I lost points because of it. I also lost points on a presentation for things that were never vocalized to the class or written in the syllabus... I didn't say anything inappropriate or anything. Mary Lucas is a mystery to me.

A fantastic professor. Excellent knowledge of material, teaching skills, and personality. My only complaint is that the class was excessively simple.

Prof. Lucas is, by far, my favorite teacher I have had so far. She requires students to challenge themselves and to be engaged, but she is fair. She is incredibly helpful and clearly committed to helping students succeed. I wish I could take other classes with her.

Mary is a great professor with a very high knowledge of her material. She is very formal and will make you understand the fundamentals of speech in a clear manner. This class is all about tight and precise deadlines. Good course.

Professor Lucas is great! Pop quizzes suck, so reading the textbook is a necessary evil. She knows how to get everyone on track to speaking well in front of a classroom. I was very pleased with my grade (you do have to work for it). She's one of the professors from my first year (2 yrs ago) that I still say hi to every time I see her. GREAT PROF!

Professor Lucas, is a hard grader. She puts a lot of time on grading your papers, very detailed on what you did wrong. Well knowledge professor. I would hit on her if she was not marry. ;)

Great, easy class . Loved it being an online class rather than in-seat. She's a tough grader on the essays, discussion, interviews, so spend your time on that. Weekly quizzes allow for no tests. I got a B+ with ease, little effort.

Nitpicky, Over demanding, She is great, and fun, but when doing your speeches they must fit her criteria. She could do so much better with what we need to learn. Concepts of what she wants us to speak about are dull, even for a beginner class. She is too focused on how we write our outline, than what we have to offer as future pub, speakers.

I had Professor Lucas for public speaking and it was the best class I have ever taken! Starting the first day, she helped our class bond and get to know each other. Many say she is a tough grader, but she honestly just grades fairly. She offers over 60 points of extra credit so it's not hard to pass the class. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Professor Lucas is a very nice lady who you can tell cares about her students. While she grades tough on essays and discussion boards, she is very fair. She gives you great feedback on assignments and makes them specific to you. I would highly recommend her, but get ready to earn your grade.

Professor Mary Lucas is the sweetest most down to earth person, cares about her students and will go out of her way to spend extra time with a student to help. If you put the effort in you will get a good grade, those who say shes too picky do not put the effort in. Shes awesome and I would reccomend her to anyone!

Professor Lucas was incredibly caring and made this class a lot of fun. There is a lot of work but she gives you adequate time to complete it. The speeches are easy if you follow the guidelines and practice. She gives good feedback and has other students give you feedback as well. She lets you miss 3 classes with no penalty and offers 60 points EC.

She is a picky geader but if you are willing to put in some work and make changes you will be fine. I sent her every single one of my outlines before turning them in for credit and it worked great. She offers 60 ec points and gives you 3 chances to miss class and still get credit.

Everything in her class is outlined with a lot of detail. All you must do is follow her instructions exactly and you will have no problem! Spill the tea in your assignments!

I love Professor Lucas! I love how she is always so excited to talk about and teach her class about gender studies. She allows her students be heard and ask questions along with actually listening to and taking their words into consideration. If you listen and read the chapters in the book then you will be fine with the assignments.

She is super caring about her students and what she teaches, she made gender and communication a really great class.

Professor Lucas was very kind and caring towards her students. The lectures feel more like conversation between her and the class than an actual lecture. Have to read a couple chapter of the book and take a 5 question quiz the next day in class which was easy. Her feedback was good but she can be picky on small details.

This was my favorite professor I've ever had. The class was insanely interesting and I learned a lot. She is a very tough grader and puts class discussions on the exams which can be frustrating. Only take this class if you're willing to discuss somewhat controversial topics. I would love to take this class again.

She is a great professor. Every week you take a test on the chapter we read. There are sometimes discussion boards with clear expectations and explanations, as well as occasional 3 page essays which are simple, and a few other assignments. I learned a lot in this class! It is not hard at all if you keep up on your work and read the text.

Professor Lucas is an excellent professor who wants to help her students succeed. She is very caring, and her lessons are very well explained. You only have to read chapters of the textbook at home. The class is very interesting.

This professor is super kind and understanding towards her students. She discusses a wide range of different issues related to gender and communication including: how we understand and define gender, different communication styles, feminism, and men's mental health. I learned so much from this class and I can use this information in my daily life.

I'm a straight A student and I've taken similar classes with ease, but it's as if she needs to adjust the rubric. When I met the word minimums and followed it, it still wasn't enough. When I started doing the exact same thing but in more words: it was. Just change the required page count if we're going to lose points for following it, ma'am.

I really enjoyed having Professor Lucas as my instructor this semester. I had her for Gender and Communication and during lecture, she would make it fun or funny by making jokes and trying to engage with the class. A disclaimer though is that there is quite a bit of reading for the content, but overall this was a great class!
