Had her for writing one. She is a very cool teacher. This class is not hard, just all essay writing.
very nice and personable... i loved her class if u do the readings and pay attention could be very interesting class... exams are fair and fun....
She's really cool. She is one of those teachers that will remember your name and say "hi" to you long after you have finished taking her class.
Pretty young women with a great approch in teaching boring stuff. I love the class
Literature is a hard class no matter what, and she knows that. She is really willing to help you out, and has great enthusiasm for the class. She makes it a lot of fun. I recommend her to everyone.
Awesome teacher. Her class is never boring because she is so alive and cheerful. Extremely helpful with papers.
Such a nice person, very helpful, easy, cheerful, makes reading fun.
She's the best I've had in Baruch.Makes the subject interesting. Very hot also which is a plus.
One of the best teachers i had at baruch.
Great professor she puts the great into the term great works of literature. Her class is somewhat difficult. However, if you keep up with the readings, you cannot get anything less than a B. She is very helpful and pulls you into the books/stories you are

She is crazy & tough. Class is interesting but the books she picks are insane. Papers are very tough and she doesn't give A's. Although she does help if you need anything. I don't think I woudl take her again.
she's a good teacher. there are some assignments that are kinda boring and absurd but overall she's good. I would recommend her.
NOT A EASY COURSE, ESPECIALLY FOR NON-NATIVE SPEAKER. PAYING A LOT OF ATTENTION ON GRAMMA. SHE IS FUNNY ALL THE TIME, BUT ONLY MAD ONCE WHEN SHE RAN OUT FROM THE CLASS~~ STRONT RECOMMENED!
I'm still thinking why I took the class. It is not easy. I wouldn't take her again
One of the best professor ever, extremely helpful outside of class, good books on the curriculum, and keeps the class interesting. Will make you think and write. Great for English majors and minors!
Hated this class.
She was interesting and so were her assignments if you really try expect a B+
One of the best English professors! Teaches well by making the class interesting, and helps a lot on papers. I learned many things about Scottish fiction.
This was a great class and She's a great professor. She knows a lot about the books that were discussed. Of course English isn't an easy subject but she's very helpful and lenient.
She assinged 10 books for one semester! She should be reported to the dept. She likes to use inflated words to make herself sound smart (not that she isn't), but being simple is better sometimes. She will make you work on writing a good essay so don't think this is an easy course. She uses her background as a default b/c she only British lit.
I thought the books could have been more diverse. For a course titled "Writing By Women About Women", I was expecting Amy Tan, Julia Alvarez, and Isabella Allende; instead, it was mostly British lit b/c of her background. There were a few irrelevant novels. She's a good professor to take if you want to improve your essay-writing skills.
What people dont realize is that a prof she knows her stuff. She does have those days where she can be boring but if you do your part you will get an easy A. Your guranteed a B if you show or just put some effort in this class.
VERY good professor--really knows her stuff. She is a pretty tough grader on the essays (gives about 3) but she gives alot of credit for participation! She HATES interruptions in the class but she makes herself extremely accessible to her students!
I expected it to be writing by and about women. Rather, it was about books she wanted to teach. Pointless class with too many books. Discussions go too fast, so you can't even have a good one. Too critical on essays. I wouldn't recommend her for English courses.
She's a cool teacher, makes the class really fun and interesting. But she does have mood swings. She is kind of a tough grader but she does help you out a lot on the papers. Ask her to read your drafts and listen to the comments she makes and you should be fine.
Hard grader, but fair. Very knowlegeable in her area and will help you improve your writting. Must read and participate in class. Fair, honest, and intelligent professor, would take her class again any day.
Take her if you like:(1)learning(2)challenge. She is a a good professor, funny, intellectual. you have to stay on top with ur HW, seek for outside help with her essays (cus sh cud be a harsh grader) and participate well in class<--very critical! You'll have fun in her class, do not be late, and a deep thinker a plus for this class
She is awesome, very knowledgeable and cool. Helps you if you ask for help. I got good recommendation from her. She is understanding about your personal problems, generates a lot of enthusiasm for topics taught. You do have to stay on top of the readings, class is challenging but satisfying. Participate and she'll like you. I improved my writing.
Knows what she's doing! hard greade, but if you like reading and writing, you shouldn't have problems passing! I would take her! The classes are fun, if you participate and don't just sit there like a dead body! Say something
This professor is a blast. You will find that she is the most down to earth teacher you will find at the college. Be prepared to do some work(not too much) in her class but also be prepared to laugh your but off, I wish all teachers were like her, then going to every class would be as fun as this one!
Treats her students like a high school class. Nightly homework, scolding if you don't do you reading...it's really a joke. I have a 3.7 GPA, it's not because I couldn't do the work, I just felt like I was being talked down to constantly in her class and disrespected. If you walk in 5 minutes late she berates you. Better suited teaching HS.
A lot of work, but all in all, great professor! She helps you on your papers. Alot of reading, hw every night, and long exams. Although it's alot of work, she makes everything interesting and for the first time in my life I like poetry!
Very tough grader, and I don't like the fact that she has a tendancy to beliddle you. Meant to be good-natured, but can be taken the wrong way. Overall, very smart woman, and obviously loves teaching. Expect a lot of reading--not a course to "coast" through. Classes are fun when people talk to be prepared with something to say!
Too demanding and nitpicky. Avoid this professor! She treats her students like fourth graders. Daily reading assignments. :-(
Lot of reading. She is a hard essay grader (there are 2 of them) and gives very long tests (midterm/final). Gives hw blackboard everynight. She is passionate, but overall she makes it feel like high school. Not bad, but would I suggest you look around first. She expects a lot.
she's a really nice lady, i really cannot write to save my life but i actually learned a lot from her she's also really smart and knows what shes talking about, not really alot of work, she lets you pick the topic for your final paper and it was actually intersting to write. I highly recommend her
First I will have to say that Prof. McGlynn has been one of the most influential professors ever in my life. Her passion for literature and caring nurture made the class easy. However some people have point out that she is a tough grader and I cant deny it, but all I can say is to give it your best and stop being a bunch of lazy bums!
She is an amazing professor! Yes, you have to actually do work in her class, but she helps you if you need it. Take advantage of her generosity because most professors don't care about you!
the right teacher for the right job. thats all i have to say.
Before I took this class I actually enjoyed English. After taking this class though, I honestly never want to take another English class again! She grade essays so hard! Whatever you hand in, expect 1 or 2 grades lower than what you think you're going to get. She's also late at least 20 minutes every single class. She's nice but a hard teacher.
I never got a grade lower than an A on any of my papers until I took this class. She's a pretty critical grader and I don't suggest taking this professor. She's nice but too critical.
what are you guys talking about!? yeah, she might grade essays harshly but she's one of the few professors who actually CARE about their students.. she will not give you a bad grade and you guys are just stuck up so shut your mouths and go dig a ditch and jump in, etc, etc
Great teacher, really cares. Not too much if any work in between papers and exams. Two papers and midterm and final which are hard and require lots of thinking but as long as you listen in class and read, you will do fine.
McGlynn is amazing, if you want a truly great literature experience, she's your gal. Very lively with deep interpretations. She is extremely helpful and will make you want to talk to her, she wants to hear ideas and will work with you. Take her class seriously, since it's probably the most enjoyable you will have.
I took her for a special topics class in Detective Literature. It was so difficult, she assigned 11 books! Very nice woman, but her assignments were very vague, and I was never quite sure what she wanted. She was always late and the readings became repetitive after a while. Knows her stuff though! I was thrilled to get a B.
I love her! Although the readings were intense for her detective fiction class, it was well worth it. She's very into her topics and likes to have fun. She also makes herself very available to students if you need help with things like essays or just the class discussion. She's fair but fun- I would definitely recommend her!
She is such a lovely and caring professor
This class must be your life if you take it. Welcome back to Jr High! Exams all 2 hrs, in PC lab. You'll be a slave to Blackboard. Enjoy.
She gives a lot of papers and small little compositions for homework, all of which she collects and grades. She's a hard grader, but I think this is because she really knows her stuff and loves what she does. A really good teacher that I recommend if you don't mind doing some work. She doesn't give As -- the highest she'll go is an A-.
I absolutely adore her! She is so enthusiastic about reading. I thoroughly enjoyed her class, she made it fun and interesting. She is a hard grader but I learned so much . She is actually kind of scary at first, but just work hard!

A very enthusiastic professor. I love the way she analyzes the texts (always makes literature exciting to read) and gets the students to participate in the discussion. Even though I did not get an A but I really enjoyed her class.
If you want to learn literature (and not caring about your grade), take her.
Comes off really mean on the first day but then she's cool. I've never been a fan of ENGLISH so I can't say much without being mean. She does grade strictly though. But in the end it turns out ok. I got an A- when I thought I'd be getting a B/B+
Passionate. Caring. Insightful. She genuinely cares about the subject and tries to engage students into caring about it as well. Reciprocity of learning between the student and her is at the heart of this class.
Take her, she is very nice!! U will learn alot from her class...Great Prof. in the Baruch!!
Greatest Eng Prof Ever. Gets you to enjoy books you hate! Wish i could take her again! Do not be frightened by the first day's plagiarism speech. Really does love what she does! Just take her, unlikely that you will regret it!
Even though I absolutely hated her and had such a hard time in her class, I would take her over with the blink of an eye. Writing a paper will never be the same for me because HOW MUCH I LEARNED. She has a talent and was born for this job and I will never forget her
Has great enthusiasm and clarity for Post Colonial Lit, but that couldn't keep me from dropping the course. Having ~10 texts assigned (some being a bore) might keep you from getting good time out of your other studies if full-time. Participation a must. I'd recommend her to English majors, or highly critical thinkers who like the subject matter.
One of the most boring classes I've ever taken.. I'm an English major and this class has failed to impress. Unfortunately for me, the class that I wanted to take was full and I was stuck with her. She pretends to be very nice, and even though I got an A, I can't help but feel this was an utter waste of time! I would not recommend her.
I can't understand the bad comments she gets. She's a great, caring, fun professor. This class is not an easy A though, but if you're willing to work, she's willing to grade fairly. Great class.
She gives easy readings and 1 page papers and guides you through the work easily. She is a very enthusiastic woman, but it gets annoying after a while. Fairy tales, Shakespeare, and poems. Final is given on the computer which makes it so much easier to edit after writing. Memorize a stanza from a poem for extra credit.
One of the best english profs at Baruch. I've taken 4 classes with her and she's made each one unique and interesting. Be ready to put in some serious work time, and show up to class. Definitely looking forward to taking another class with her. She is 100% willing to give up her time to help you!
Took her for 3 different classes. One of the best profs in Baruch. Very passionate about the arts and very nice person in general. Down to earth and jokes around in class. Very willing to help you out, allows you to send drafts before due date for help and gives a re-write for each essay. Her film class was great, fair grader, def take her.
Professor McGlynn is one of the few professors at Baruch who truly want their students to succeed. She is always there to help you when you need it and also is very intelligent. I highly recommend this professor if you're trying to learn and willing to put in some work.
Great Professor. Helpful and clear in what she wants. A lil tough but its helps. Great job professor.!
One of the best English professors at Baruch: she's passionate about what she teaches, and cares about her students. She may not be clear with what she expects on the first paper, but she offers rewrites and clears up a lot in meetings. You get what you put into her class and there's a lot of reading, but she's a fair grader and class is hilarious.
I would have gotten an higher grade if I participated more, but she talks so fast that it is so hard to keep up with her to the point where you just want to zone out her voice. She is a really nice and funny woman, but she is a tough grader. Do not take her for granted. She gives really great feedback on her papers though!
She's a really tough grader, she gives amazing lec .The work is all worth it at the end. Lots of reading, Tons of reading for each class. Participation counts! One presentation, 3 essays ranging from 3-5 pages and 2 one page responses. Not much work, but tons of effort. You have to work for your grade! She's a sweet heart other than that, Enjoy!
If you take McGlynn get ready to do A LOT of reading (about 8 books and 3 short stories for one semester). She is the hardest grader but it only makes you appreciate your grade even more. I got a C- in her class but she made me a stronger writer so I appreciate her for that. She gives great feed back on essays and she gives you a chance to revise.
Great Professor, she makes you do a lot of reading. I only did half the reading and I got a decent grade in the class. If your penmanship is weak she is the professor you should consider taking. She makes you work for your grade and you will learn to appreciate her more because of that.
Professor Mary McGlynn is very passionate about what she teaches. She's very bubbly. Do your work and she's going to like you. If you don't do your work, you might as well not take her. She respects you if you follow her directions and do your work. Very picky on grading essays, however, she is clear on what she wants. Her office is always open!
AMAZING. Love this woman. I didn't have a textbook for this class, so obviously it wasn't used. Had an average amount of papers, and she was definitely a bit tough on the grading but you will definitely learn a lot from her if you pay attention and take her comments as constructive criticism. 10/10 would recommend.
I had her for my first semester at Baruch. Had 3 papers (reflective narrative, critical rhetorical analysis, research) and an oral history remix as a collaboration with the HIS 1500 professor. She allocates ample time for each due date and maps out what you should answer for each prompt. Don't be late. Always have your assignments ready. Loved her.
Class is kinda theatrical. No one does the readings or when they do theres very little insight so how good the class is really depends on who you take the class with. Hopefully no know it alls in your class that literally dont let the poor professor speak. Shes a tough grader and theres a lot of reading. Wish there was deeper analysis on text tho
I really respect her as a professor as she truly cares about her students and takes an interest in their lives (non-intrusively of course) and is passionate about her profession (which is rare in itself!). She added great insight to even not so interesting texts and I would love to take a class with her if I was more interested in the subject/genre
I took Professor McGlynn last semester and really enjoyed her class. If you're looking for an easy A English class, this is not for you. She will expect a lot from you but she will make you a better writer and prepare you for grad school level writing/literature analysis. Make sure she knows your by name and sees your individual effort. Recommended
There's a lot of readings. She's a fun person to talk to but serious business when it comes to grading you. Puts a lot of time into making sure your thesis arguments are solid. Midterm and final follow the same format.
I've taken her more than once bc she's so great! She can be a tough grader sometimes, but it's for your own benefit and she'll help you become a better writer and she'll help pull out the ideas you have that you can't quite get to. Show up to class, participate, and take notes! Notes will really help you write your papers.
Professor McGlynn is one of the most caring professors has taught me. It's obvious she loves what she does. She pushes her students to the limits to allow students to reach their potential and more. Take her if you genuinely plan to become a better writer. And definitely take advantage of her meeting, they are informative and helpful.
She's definitely a very caring professor, but know that the assignments can be very tough, as she expects a lot from her students. Though, I did become a better writer because of her. Keep in mind this is not an easy A class at all, so be prepared to do your work.
Not an easy class but she helps you whenever needed. Gives you a lot of detailed feedback on papers and the opportunity to revise. You do have to pay attention to her lectures but theyre usually pretty interesting.
