i hated this class so much. so her tests dont reflect anything that we do in class or the homework, they are much harder. the class is totally boring and most people dont know whats goin on. i got saved by the curve due to the hurricane, thank god for that....
I disagree with the previous rating. I found Ms. McKendry to be a very good teacher who is good at explaining the material. I would recomend this class.
She's a good teacher but goes WAY fast over stuff and sometimes lets u out early from class BUT she's soo easy.. NO hw.. doesn't check anytihing.. just have to do well on exams which is CURVED lik crazy.. def. take her for a breeze compared to other teachers.. trust me!!
I think she's great! I had close to 100 in the class.. if you took any high school Calc, it doesn't even have to be an AP class, you will coast straight through this with an easy A. sHe always lets you out way early and has no problem cancelling class.
she really couldn't be more helpful she goes through absolutely everything several times. no studying needed to get a 90 or higher on every test/quiz
she's very clear. produce notes for students. i never understood maths more than i do now so that's saying something.
Great professor, she gives you printouts of the notes to fill in so you know whats going on. She never throws curve balls on the tests about material you haven't covered. Sometimes she's a little inconsistent with her grading like one test she'll give you credit for writing a problem a certain way while on another test she might mark it wrong.
she teaches very quick but well. if you do the hw you understand the material more. the test arent hard. she is clear.
I love mcKenry. she is a very good professor and I rarely get bored in her classes. She teaches quickly and leave the class early.
This lady is amazing. Shes the best overall teacher I have had at UM. She makes a tough subject easy and is a great person in general. She is really into her subject and it shows in her unmatched ability to present it perfectly. I dont have her class anymore but I still go to her when I have questions about my upper level math. She is that awesome
AWESOME TEACHER!!! she is so laid back and not a hassle to deal with. for a business calc class, she makes it bearable. only 4 tests and maybe 8 quizzes which are all relatively easy. going to class makes the workload easier, but many people skipped all the time except for test days. a lot of extra credit too! TAKE HER!!!
The material in general is hard but the tests tend to not reflect the things we went over in class. There were often problems that no one in the class recognized... But she is really helpful and understanding and will help you in any way she can. She's probably better than the other stats teachers though.
Excellent prof! Exams are predictable and well reviewed for with only a few curveball questions to delineate between the A+ and A- students. Only used the book for HW (haha yead right) and charts.
Hard class, excellent professor. take her!
Great Prof--really cares about students
one of the best teachers. very nice, goes through every question step by step. answers every question and knows what she is talking about. she never throws any curve balls on the test.. she wants you to do well and succeed
Excellent professor I've ever had in UM. Take her!!!!!!!!!!!Exams are super easy and I got an A. She is nice and always willing to help.
She is great. Very helpful and cares about her students.
After reading these past reviews I thought her class would be easier then it was. She gives you printed out notes that she goes over in class. She goes through examples very quickly so its hard to grasp what she is doing all the time. I dont reccomend taking the once a week class its hard to remember everything and you have a quiz every class.
Very clear teaching style and the notes she gives for each section are beyond useful. She understands the material very well and her passion about the subject makes you understand it well as well. Take her! I am going to try to take a statistics class by her next semester too
She gives out note packets which are really clear and useful. When teaching the material, she rushes through, making it hard to understand at first. If you put effort in and study for the tests its easy to get an A. Everything on the test is from previous notes or homework.
She does explain everything quickly and sometimes rushes through things only to let the class out early, but if you go to every class and really focus and pay attention, then the material is not hard. I think she's better/easier than the other business calc teachers. I learned a lot in her class and got an A.
Great professor. Really concerned about the student. Will provide additional examples of problems etc. when asked in class to do so.
Very pleasant teacher. Willing to go back and repeat something if you ask.
She's a great teacher! Her test are not easy, but she is always willing to explain the work and cares about her students.
Great Professor. She really cares about her students and wants them to succeed.
She is a decent professor. She cares about her students to a certain extent. She normally ends class early, but covers the material in a timely manner.
Great Professor; really liked her class. She wanted her students to do well.
Great professor. Made statistics really interesting. If you do the homework and attend class, then the quizzes and exams are straight forward.
Great professor! Knows her stuff AND can explain it. Do the homework and go to class and you can do well.
Dr. McKenry is a good teacher. She is clear in her explanations of problems but oftentimes shows more simple problems than what you will see on the test, which is usually quite hard. There are 3 tests and a cumulative final (30%). She is a really obnoxious grader, taking off more points for small errors, like ECT (Error carried through).
Her class is ok and I do think I learnt a lot. The problem is that her exams do not necessarily correspond to what she teaches in class. Some questions are silly and unexpected. Take another professor if you can.
BUS 150, the excel class, sucks. This should be an online course considering I never went to class and everything I've learned came from youtube videos. She's a good teacher, but again, if you lose track of what she's saying you will be lost for the remainder of the class. The exams don't actually measure your knowledge of excel & are hard.
Tough but required class. McKenry over Barber. Tests are tough, study and attend class and youll get a B+ / A.
The book is confusing but she makes outlines which are easy to understand and help you study for tests and quizzes. You can use a cheat sheet, and if you study her outlines you'll do well on her tests and quizzes. I had never taken stats and she made it easy to learn. Only need textbook for homework which is not really mandatory but really helps.
Easy class, she gives you handouts so you know what kinds of examples to expect on tests and quizzes. She explains clearly and lets you out early after finishing tests. Study her outlines and you'll do fine on tests. Would definitely take again!
Professor McHenry is wonderful. She is patient, and clear with her requirements and will stop what she is doing at anytime to help you.
Tries to make it interesting, but once a week class is hard the last 15 minutes. She really cares that we learn the material. Gives good examples in class and handouts.
Nice because class doesn't last very long however her tests are very challenging and nobody finishes however she doesn't care, very specific and she doesn't really teach she just shows you once and expects you to know how to do it
Took her for BUS150 as well. Favorite teacher here. Her lectures are so easy to understand and she hands out outlines. All quizzes and tests are fair and easy to study for but I still learn.
Still not sure how my final grade was weighted, but I can't complain. Her lectures seemed well thought out and put-together. She definitely cared about us learning the material. She's a solid choice for the class.
I have no idea what the previous reviewers are talking about. All you need to do is go to class and pay attention, NOTHING ELSE and you can get A+ in all the tests. Also, the group project is your final, which is pretty easy (again if you pay attention). 100% would take her again!
Tests are pretty straightforward. The only bad thing about the class was that we had a group project and she didn't give clear guidelines.
Everything is reviewed in the class. Attend classes and pay attention, and you will pass easily. If you have any questions or need her to repeat, she will gladly do it.
Dr. McKenry is the best, took her for 4 courses at UM. She is not the most exciting lecturer but she covers what she needs to, tests on it fairly and if you put in a little work, you will do well
Real OG. Wants you to succeed. I've taken excel and 303 with her. Lays out the expectations. If you put in work an A is achievable, not an easy A; meet the expectations and do the EC
Taking McKenry's class was literally the best choice I ever made in choosing professors. She gives great notes packets and the content of the class is relatively easy. If you go to class and listen sometimes (not even all the time) you'll get an A. She lets you bring a full page of notes (front and back) to every quiz/test. Taking her again!
She is super sweet and makes the course really easy. I still don't understand how some people in my class didn't pass. If you show up and pay a little bit of attention (you don't even have to do the HW) then you will be fine on quizes and tests. She lets you have a full sheet of paper front and back as a cheat sheet on ALL quizzes AND tests.
Very intelligent woman. You must attend class if you want to pass, that is because you won't understand anything if you don't go and won't know what to expect on exams. Assessments are very thorough so you need to know your stuff. I personally didn't like this class because McKenry doesnt take BS and can see right though your excuses. She's smart
She covers the material in the simplest way possible and if you don't understand something she will go over it again until you understand. We used the textbook for homework but for my class she would upload the homework pages onto blackboard so it wasn't entirely necessary to have the textbook. Best of all she tells you when the quiz is beforehand.
Great class. Every class there is a lecture and then a "hands on" experience. This course is a real skill builder with application to work (no theory). She sometimes speeds up, but if you ask her a question, she will make sure you understand it. I wish all my professors were like her. Take Dr. McKenry for MAS 639!
Really good professor! The Excel and Tableau skills I learned in her class translated extremely well at my internship. Reasonable expectations, easily accessible, just a good all around person
She covers the material well and will gladly answer any questions or go over certain topics multiple times until you understand. Attendance doesn't matter as long as you're there for the quizzes (she drops lowest score, so you could miss 1 without penalty). The exams were super easy and you're allowed a cheat sheet for them and quizzes too.
Amazing professor, probably one of the best in the Management Science department. Extremely straightforward and understanding of her students. She is willing to provide extra support if you need it. If you have the opportunity, highly recommend taking her. Great professor and even greater person.
Dr. McKenry is a great person who is very nice and funny. Unfortunately, she puts nothing other than the syllabus on Blackboard and she is very very difficult to reach outside class, making your grade really a mystery until the end of the semester. That's especially stressful when you are graded only on the final, 3 exams and some small quizzes.
While class attendance is not required, Dr. McKenry makes it worthwhile to go to class. Her handouts have all the material that is required to succeed. She has class activities that if you do them, they help your grade and you do well on the test. Great class for a business calculus class.
Dr. Mary cares about her students. She would give class activities (and sometimes quizzes) that we could do in small groups so it allowed us to practice the material before we had a test on it. She really wanted us to learn. Her lectures were good--not too much theory but more applications.
Dr. McKenry is truly a gem. I had her for MAS 110 in the spring and MAS 201 for Summer A. She wants to make sure that each student does well and will go over the material, explaining each confusing part. She is the best professor from the entire MAS department. Take her, she is amazing!
Not sure how she was before zoom. Not much to say other than this: I have never received lower than an A in math since the day my momma gave birth to me. Tests and quizzes are intentionally more difficult than practice problems. DON'T miss a class. I also never took the time to rate a professor... I'm tryna save you guys...
Dr. Mckenry does her best to make sure students understand the material and learns from the class. She is patient and a great explainer when it comes to class materials. I took her MAS 201 and I truly enjoyed it. But MAS 202 was a lot more difficult. (maybe it's because it's online) I find myself being lost a lot of times and struggled a lot.
Her lectures are pretty good and she always stops and breaks down everyone's questions step by step and never leaves a student behind. Messed up on the test grading with being online but she's understanding and a great professor overall. Also used Excel which is definitely easier than the calculator/hand method of working out the problems IMO.
Prof McKenry is a really good teacher. I think the hybrid course was not easy as there were some technical issues--I don't think they were her fault. She really cares and would answer everyone's questions. If you went to class (even online) and did the homework, you could do well in the class.
Professor is a nice person who knows how to teach. She does make her tests way harder then the class problems which can be annoying. The biggest thing for me is that she doesn't allow backtracking which is ridiculous because you can get stuck on these statistics problem for a long time.
Not the best Professor but also not the worst, can come off as rude sometimes probably because she doesnt feel like explaining more than she has. She doesnt allow backtracking which is quite annoying, she also has high expectations for her students. She is still not that hard of a professor, take her if you dont have any other better options
you will have no idea what is going on the entire time. does not post grades or respond to emails. tests and quizzes way harder than homework and notes.
Prof McKenry breaks down the material well and provides handouts through Blackboard. I think she has way more students now--there were 50 in our class, when my sister took her there were only 30. Open notes and allows you to use computer. She cares about students learning the material rather than memorizing. If you want to learn, take her class
Great professor. Explained material well and had open-note exams. Material was tough but using excel made it a lot easier to learn. If you put the work in and pay attention, you can get a good grade. Lots of quizzes but they are not worth a lot and she drops lowest 2 or 3. She was funny and I enjoyed class. Would definitely take her again.
I took her for 3 semesters! She allows you to use excel during quizzes and tests like you would in the real world. Shes friendly and open to answer questions you have. Personally, I am a good note taker and I study, so the class was a breeze. But if you dont take notes, do not pay attention, and dont do the homeworks, material is difficult.
She's very nice, but she is a very tough grader. Her test questions are significantly harder than the quiz or homework questions. Her quizzes are fairly easy, and sometimes she'll give you a question that you can do with a partner as a quiz grade. Also homework is not mandatory.
She's awesome. One of the best math teachers I've had. So good at explaining things and always asks if we have questions before moving on. Tests and quizzes are super straightforward and easy (final was kinda tricky tho) because she allows a cheat sheet. Only counts 5 best quizzes out of 7-8. No attendance, but you'll be lost if you skip.
Great teacher. She is straightforward, and teaches you what you need to know. I appreciate this because math can get confusing at times, but with her teaching style it was easy to follow. She is a tough grader, but she is also very understanding of her students. You can tell that she cares. If you struggle w math, choose her
I do not understand how she has such great reviews. Please take my word for it: DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Her tests and quizzes are impossible, and she gives slim to no partial credit for them. She is so rude and condescending when people ask questions. I have never done so poorly in a class in my life compared to this class.
MY GOD THIS IS THE WORST PROFESSOR. The most impossible class. I took her for MAS201 and I liked her. 202 was the hardest class I have ever taken. No textbook. Using a completely new software for math. Only explains in class. Doesn't have example problems. Doesnt record the class. Do not take her. I cant put into words how bad this class was.
I honestly have no clue how she has any good ratings. She is hands down the worst teacher at the school. Does not respond to any emails and did not post the exam review until the night before the final. This teacher sucks.
Really the best statistics professor. Saw other students complaining about her but she really cares about her students. She tells you what you need to know.
I took this professor due to prior reviews and I found the opposite. This class was very hard she goes way too fast and gives little to no feedback on quizzes and exams.
I wrote a terrible review from earlier for her 202 class. It was one of the hardest classes I have taken but I ended up with an A. I have no idea how. I calculated my grade and got a C+ with the final and final project. Got a 68 on the final. Test average was 75%. Ended with an A. Some kids still got B's though. Take this info with what you will.
This professor is very good at breaking down the material. If you go to class and do the problems the class is a piece of cake.
4/7 quizzes are graded. go to class and youll be more than fine. Easy A
This class is an easy A, you get cheat sheets on the quizzes you have and only like 10/14 are graded, Prof can struggle teaching the subjects clearly at times but honestly, its an intro stats class so the concepts aren't hard, you just need to know how to halfway use excel.
She is a decent teacher with no mandatory attendance, but the class assignments and quizzes are given about one class worth of notice so you need to be in class to know when they are. Did not take up a lot of time out of class, studying for maybe an hour max before each quiz will guarantee an A.
If you pay attention you will be fine but the class is boring
Class is easy if you show up and take notes. She gives pretty good lectures and allows you to have cheat sheets on the quizzes and final exam. Make sure you study hard for the final though cuz it's worth 40% of your final grade. She drops 3-4 of your worst quiz grades so you're fine if you bomb a few of them.
Homework is optional. Class is optional. She even drops a bunch of quizzes which is great. Couldn't recommend more highly. She also is super normal and easy to talk to.
I BARELY passed Precalc with a B- and am ending business calc with an A. Super easygoing teacher - amazing compared to the other goofball teachers in the math debt. You learn everything in class, attendance isn't taken but GO cause it's sm harder teaching urself. She drops sm quizzes/ is easily convincible to move quizzes. Couldn't recommend more
I think that Professor McKenry is an overall good teacher. However, I am someone who is relatively good at math, and am a very fast learner. The entire class is built based off of minitab, which is much better than some of the other professors who make you do all the math. My only thing is if you get a problem wrong, she takes a lot of points off.
Mary's a little disorganized but this will be the easiest class of your life. It's 10 quizzes and 2 exams, all online in class. She gives you the excel formulas you need in the class before the exam, then you just regurgitate them for an A. Super easy, take her in a heartbeat.
Prof McKenry is very nice and caring and wants everyone to do well. That being said, she teaches very fast and I fend myself teaching myself. The math department at the U is quite horrible and I would say she's probably the best you can get. Although im not a fan she's defiantly on the better side of Math professors at this terrible math program.
Best professor ever. No mandatory, attendance no mandatory homework. about 10 quizzes but only grades the best 5 and a final. Best math professor at the school by far. Clearly speaks English unlike the rest of the math department and class time is very valuable and she makes everything crystal clear. Definitely take any of her classes.
Take her class. Best professor for MAS110.
The best math teacher I have had in my life. There are 10 quizzes, and she takes 5, so it's easy to go into the exam with a 100. She grades quizzes harshly and doesn't really give partial credit on questions. She never shames you for asking questions, and she's super kind and funny. Going to class is optional, but she always ends it 20 mins early.
Marry McKenry is the GOAT I mean GOAT. if you can take her class, do yourself a favor and take it.
She is not caring or a good teacher.
She has no sympathy, no kindness. She will grade you in a ridiculous way. She is hard to reach outside the classroom. No matter how you are doing in the semester, the final will make no sense and you will drop letter grades as a result.I had a A in the class the whole semester and finished with a C. It's so disappointing, as well as sad.
there are not a lot of options for mas classes, so compared to others professor mckenry is pretty good. we had 7 quizzes (lowest 2 are dropped), as well as a cumulative midterm and final. everything is on excel and you get a cheat sheet but still a tough class. would recommend but make sure you study especially for the midterm and final!
If you have any medical or personal emergencies that prevent you from doing quizzes, even if you need to drop other poor performing ones, she will not work with you at all. Even if you try as much as you can to. I had to withdraw and take during the summer.
