Take this prof if you need Speech! Public speaking is scary but she makes it very do-able in a supportive and fun environment. She wants and helps you to succeed. Great attitude. First name basis. Generous with her time and marks. New to OCC but was still nominated for Outstanding Prof 2008 and for good reason. I earned an A :-)

no absences/late gets you 25 ec points. YOUR GRADE IS ONLY WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT. not a blow off class but it def. helps prepare you to be in front of anyone. mary is fun and a wonderful person. helps people with the nerves of speaking. great to work with and talk to out of class. lets her personal views be known accepts other views discussed.

Mary was an excellent teacher. I was dreading this speech class, but absolutely loved it! You recieved extra credit for attendence. The class moved quick but instructions were clear, and her laid back style of teaching made the class very fun. It turned out to be one of my favorite classes! Great to take if you're nervous about speech.

This class is very fast paced! She is a caring teacher and will help you if you dont understand the subject. Just pay attention and you will be fine. Also she make speech class very fun and bearable. Dont worry about being nervous, because the other students in the class are too. You are all in this together!

I had Mary for 2 semesters both Interpersonal Com. and Public Speaking. She was by far the best instructor I have had my whole college career!!! If you pay attention and don't treat the class as a blow off you will do great. She has a great personality and wants to see her students do well.

Loved this class & the professor! She's very laid back & a reasonable grader. It was never boring! You definitely need the book. Class included online 10 question quizzes every week, a book application, a group project, a few easy papers, & a speech. Do it all & you'll get an A. Offers a lot of extra credit too! I learned so much from this class!

First off, there's a lot of work involved in this class(public speaking). If you're lazy, you'll just end up dropping. That being said, the class was fun and you'll learn a ton of good valuable stuff. Mary's fair at grading and extremely helpful. If you actually try an 'A' is very possible to earn. If you slack you're looking at a 'C' or lower.

Ms. Moon is a GREAT professor, however, this class is not easy. Attendance is not mandatory but you need to be there to grasp the work. It is ALOT of work and research involved in this class. For this to be an elective it is very fast pace. If you are looking for an easy grade, DO NOT take this class. Great Teacher, lots of work!

Loved the class- didn't think public speaking would be fun. But it was the funnest class i have ever had. If you can pass COM1600 you can do anything.

Dont be absent! I missed 2 classes and lost out on an "A" by one point. Other than that she grades easy and most of the work is interesting. Ms. Moon makes a point that all her students get to know each other in preparation of delivering a speech.

Very fun and entertaining class, However I spent more time out of class doing work than I ever had before in a 3 credit class.Lots of Work, but she is a tough but fair grader. If she sees you put forth the effort, then you are reward with a good grade. In her words "A speech that just follows all of the requirements and doesnt exceed them gets a C

Mary is a wonderful person who actually makes public speaking less scary. I definitely suggest doing the extra credit, which involved reading the text. If you do the ec and okay on all the speeches, then you'll get an A. It's a lot of work, and I suggest starting early on the persuasive speech.

She is a wonderful teacher and very helpful. you cant let the subject get in the way of thinking she is a bad teacher. it is a tough subject, no one likes public speaking. but she makes it 100x easier. show up to class and try your hardest and you will get an A.

Super fun class! I seriously recommend this class to all of my friends. She is a great teacher, very clear and happy all the time. She does a lot of experiments on the classes responses so stay on your toes. There are online quizzes every week but they're easy. Most of the grade is attendance.

Mary Moon is really intelligent and thoughtful. Make sure you pay close attention to the syllabus, though, because she'll forget to remind you when papers are due. I'd take her again!

This is a class that requires A LOT of work outside the classroom. Attendance is necessary to prepare your speeches with info from the lectures. It is a class that will make you more confident when speaking in front of a group of people. If you have the extra time, take it. It is a really good class if you put the effort. Professor Moon is great!

This was one of my favorite classes and I have to believe that is is because of the professor. She makes the classes interesting. As long as you read the chapters and take the weekly quizzes, you'll be okay for the entire class. There are no tests, only speeches.

She was absolutely amazing. Probably my favorite teacher since I've joined college. She has one online test every week that is graded, worth 10-20 points. your lowest is dropped. There is one speech, one group project (which is a lot of fun) and one book report. I'd take her class again.

She has dry jokes. Grades really tough on speeches. Expects you to practice speeches 9 hours a week. Alot of extra credit to make up work. You have to come to class to pass. Uses D2L. Every week you will have something to do. Teacher is inconsiderate to think you have other classes. Do the extra credits. Meet with the SI.

You have to put in work and practice to pass, but she's THE BEST. I love that lady, she's real, and she rocks!

Absolute GOAT. Go to class, participate, and do quizzes. Be prepared for one speech at the end of the semester and you're gold. Looked forward to this class every week and she's cool af too. She actually made school fun for me

As you can see with the variety of ratings, she is either rated good or bad. To me, she was a terrific teacher, however she marks tough. Thats why many believe she is hard. So for you to pass this class you must put effort into it. It is the most realistic class you can take, preparing you for your future speeches / presentations. I recommend it.

If you need a communications class then take her she is really helpful and she really understands her students.

Her class was so easy and very fun and she is the master of communication.

Her higher lecel classes are more like fun lower level classes.

All her classei have taken were just as awesome as she is.

SHe makes good metaphors to communicate well with students.

If you want fun amazing lecutres for communications take Moon.

Her class is mainly online quizzes that are easy with the book, participation, and teamwork on the final project. No tests in her class

This is an easy A needed for communications requirement.

Most entertaining class i have ever taken. I wish all classes were like this. There are no tests just online open book quizes. Group projects are fun even working with the worst partners I got an A on the project.

This may have been the highest level of a communications class at OCC, but she made seem like a really easy class. I recommenced taking her for a teacher if you want an A.

Her class has the easiest grading system theere ever was. Participation, online quizes based on the books, and gorup projects.

This teacher is so good you will really want to participate.

She is awesome. She knows what she is teaching and really makes sure you understand and those who can't she puts in extra effort to help.

Mary Moon is a character out of a book. She looks and talks exactly as you would expect her to. She is the most insightful and fun prof I've ever had. Love her and loved this class. She literally outlines exactly what she expects out of you and you just have to fill in the blanks. Class was always engaging and fun. I will miss her!

Literally best professor ever

Show up to class on time, do the assignments, participate in class every so often, and this class can be an easy A. She gives 2 opportunities in the syllabus for extra credit, one being for perfect attendance, but she could offer more over the semester. Just the 2 extra credit opportunites alone took me from a B+ to an A.

If you do the work and follow what she says you will get a good grade in this class and she's a caring professor. I would totally retake this class again

She is pretty awesome. Really connects with students and provides them a platform to share their thoughts and opinion. Gives me hippie vibes.

She will have you leaving her class feeling... just really good about yourself. Her lectures are semi long but full of fun topics and will more likely then not go off topic and share some funny stories with the class. This is a speech class so prepare for that, but honestly you will find doing the speeches arent bad at all. In fact youll like it.

This class was over Zoom but professor Moon was still very accommodating and listened to everyones inputs and worked with us along the way. She always respected our thoughts and gave good criticism on our work and was not a harsh grader as long as you know what you're doing. She was funny and so sweet and very real with the class. she made it good

I loved taking this class. It's a lot of work (constant assignments) but you learn a lot and Professor Moon made the lecture times fun. There weren't a lot of actual lectures but when there were, the information was vital. This is not an easy class but Professor Moon tries to help a lot. Overall though, highly recommend taking her class.

Mary was by far the best professor Ive ever had. Ive taken all her communication classes. She genuinely cared about all her students and was always available outside of class. She always respected everyones comments and class was so much fun and she was hilarious and always had tons of stories.

The BEST professor. Genuinely cares about her students. Work load was not so bad. I learned so much in this class. Professor Moon is inspirational and caring.

Mary is a nice lady and her class is like a moderate difficulty. She doesnt assign much homework but she requires you to memorize 2 speeches which isnt that bad. The quizzes are also a moderate difficulty as they require you to actually read the textbook to find the answers. I would still take her again if given the chance.

Mary is a great teacher. However, I will say this is not the class for a procrastinator. I have a 4.0 and I haven't received my grade yet, but I know it is the end of my perfect GPA. I also will say COM 1600 is all a head game, so if you're struggling in life whilst also taking this class, I recommend therapy - maybe I'd have done better.
