Bless her heart for the effort but this is NOT an instructor I would take again. Her lectures are savagely boring and she is not clear in her explanations. Perhaps she would do better with a small class but I found she couldn't handle the large class I was enrolled in. If you take her, get ready to teach yourself or spend a lot of time getting help
Completely lacking in clarity. I find myself looking back at my notes and wondering why she never actually explained half the things we covered. She fails to tie things together. Plus she is unorganized and forgetful.
Do not take this class! She is a horrible professor... If you can teach yourself Chem 2 then great, but she will teach you nothing. She's unorganized & half the time has to stop lecture to she what she did wrong! Worthless teacher
The only reason I made a B in this class was becase I spent almost everyday at her office hours. Not to mention youtube videos, & hours teaching myself chem from the back of the book. Very nice lady. Lacks clarity during her lectures, but if you go to her office hours, everything will be crystal clear. Ask her anything, she is very patient.
I literally, no joke, got a 8.995 average lab grade and she would not round up to a 9 (9 out of 10 --> 90/100) for me to have an A, even though I had perfect attendence. She's very strict and unwilling to see anyone else's point of view
I took this course in the summer, and I found that she isn't as hard as everyone is saying. She is well organized and goes over each chapter at a leisurely pace. I suggest taking it in the summer if at all possible. Also, find practice problems online for each chapter! It will help a lot with the conceptual questions for the tests.
I took her class about a year and a half ago receiving a grade of D (or something like that). However I repeated this class this summer and I came out with an A+ . At times the concepts can be unclear and difficult, but Dr. Patterson is a great teacher and is patient and willing to actually teach or even re-teach you material that is unclear.
Good teacher. Made an A. Took this class in the summer and honestly, I think it was easier than it would be during a long semester
I advise people to take this class during the summer, because the information is still fresh in your mind. You literally learn something one day, and the next day you have an easy quiz or test. Patterson is overall a good teacher however taking this class in a full semester could be challenging.
I loved MJ Patterson. She expects a lot of her students but she is very willing to work with you. Near the end of the year she applies a ton of extra credit that helps boost grades big time. She is very friendly, easy to understand, and gives you plenty of opportunities to help you if you are struggling. By far my favorite Chem prof.
I took Patterson my first semester at Texas State and I absolutely loved her class! She's a great professor and she actually cares about her students if you need help she is definitely there to help you. Her tests aren't easy but if you review the stuff she gives you to study you should be fine.
Okay I strongly recommend not taking her. I have never had any problems trying to pass a class, but I struggled all semester trying to pass this class. I don't think I have ever stressed more over a class. DO NOT TAKE HER unless you plan on teaching yourself chemistry or are just really good at it. Sweet lady. Terrible teacher.
Nice lady but not very good professor. Her tests are extremely hard and she does not give you suggestions on how to properly study. Half the stuff she goes over in class doesn't even appear on the exam. She expects too much from students. If you are not a chemistry major and you struggle with math, I recommend finding an easier professor.
3 main things about Patterson. 1, she goes very fast. 2, her tests are tough if you don't prepare the right way. 3, She doesn't give much extra credit. She's nice, kind, and always willing to listen to your questions, but if you wanna have a shot at an A, prepare for tests in advance and for the final, do book problems because that's what they are.
My opinion is completely opposit to other graders. She can be nice, but she is definitely a good professor. She listens to you and helps you out. Other chem professors are much worse as I heard. Would suggest taking her. Literally listen in lecture and do HW on sapling and you are ready for her exams.. Exams: multiple choice part and free response
Dr. Patterson's chemistry course for nonscience majors has been my favorite class so far. The class is super easy and Patterson is always interactive which makes the class enjoyable.
Extremely fast paced but it's manageable. She covers a lot of practice problems during lectures and you get a lot of extra credit just by showing up so go to every class. The final is EXTREMELY challenging so don't miss any tests, you dont want your final replacing a missed test. If you study and show up it's easy to make a good grade.
She is awesome
Super sweet lady. She gives you a calendar with all the tests, quizzes, and homework, so it doesn't leave you wondering. Attendance is not mandatory but you will have a few points taken off your grade if you miss a lot. Highly suggest printing off her power points for notes, I haven't even opened my textbook so it's frustrating I bought it
Former highschool teacher. She's very nice and lowkey wants you to pass but she doesn't say it. Expect highschool level powerpoints and study material.
She is very smart and easy to like. She is very articulate and clear in her lectures. The class isn't very exciting and if I didn't go to her office hours I don't know how I would have gotten as good of a grade. The textbook is a waste of money
She is a really smart Prof. and she tries to make the class as easy to understand as possible because she knows this isn't your major. She also drops one of each of the assignments and offers extra credit and gives you extra points here and there. The tests are no joke but if you study you'll do fine. Quizzes once a week!
Dr. P is super sweet. However, she can be difficult. She knows this class is for non-majors but is used to teaching STEM students so it gets confusing and she realizes it but doesn't do anything to fix it. Weekly quizzes, 4 exams, HW, in class activities, you name it, she does it. Attendance is mandatory with clickers.
Good professor. She knows what she's talking about. The book is useful for examples and more practice. The test are okay as long as you study. Pay attention in class, print the slides and fill-in the blanks. You need a clicker for attendance and "clicker questions". Gives all your past work back to study with. There are quizzes every few weeks.
There are only 3 tests and the final exam, so make sure you study hard for each test. Print off the notes before lectures, she tends to talk fast. You have a quiz almost every other week, so you have to constantly follow the chapters. While this class isn't a super easy A, she gives you lots of chances to finish with the grade you want.
Dr. Patterson is a great teacher for any non-major. She makes tough chemistry simple, but you have to show up to class to listen to her. She gives homework online which is pretty easy if you are caught up with her lectures. Tests are multiple choice which are pretty easy if you pay attention in class.
Dr. Patterson is amazing. She made science super easy. You need to go to class to get it, but if you just sit there and take notes I promise you will succeed. She gives you many opportunities to raise your grade if you do bad on a test. Would highly recommend her.
Dr. P is very nice! 3 tests and final, weekly quizzes/homework, in class activities, attendance taken with clickers, and she drops the lowest grade from each category. Might not be an easy A, but its easy to pass. Also, she always makes sure she has office hours and she never cancels class. Lots of extra credit as well. Very good chem professor!
She's a solid professor. The class is just not interesting. She tries though to be good at relating it, she's just bland. She teaches the material, it's just not easy to understand. You'll need the clicker, you'll need the online homework subscription, but the textbook isn't necessary.
This professor is very kind, and easy to understand. I would definitely recommend.
Dr. P is such a great teacher! She is very nice but doesnt mess around. She loves what she teaches and you can tell. Weekly quizzes, homework, 4 tests including final. Some in class activities. I really enjoyed her lectures because they were so informative. Hates phones/ laptops so dont have them out. I would def take her again!
Loved prof Patterson!! She made everything so easy to understand, all her notes are online and she drops A LOT of grades at the end of the semester. Show up to class and you'll be fine
She knows that chemistry isn't the easiest class and that many of her students don't want to be there, so she makes it as enjoyable as possible and mostly succeeds. Knowledgeable and explains things so it's easy to understand but it's easy to get behind if you don't go to class. Book isn't mandatory unless you really aren't getting her lectures.
Clickers are used for attendance. The more multiple choice questions answered right gives you more extra credit points. She gives about 12 extra credit points besides the clickers. Quizzes every week, HW every other week, and tests are pretty easy. She does not throw trick questions in her tests. Shes very straight forward. Id take it again.
Patterson is great at telling you exactly what you need to do to pass. She expects the right amount of work for a non major class.
MJ was really cool, shes understanding, especially when it comes down to teaching non science majors . Just do the work and homework and you should be fine.
You have to purchase a clicker for attendance. Her pace started out great but after the first exam she put the boosters on and never slowed down. I was in the class for non-science majors and she got us all lost after the first exam. Overall she's an okay teacher but I was better off teaching myself.
(Chem Non-major) A wonderful kind woman. Never miss class because each week you will have a quiz and on the other meeting in the week you will have an EC assignment. She also gives you points just for being there. Easy to get an A if you show up because of EC, even if you don't do well on the exams. And if you memorize your polyatomic ions.
Very sweet woman! Attendance is vital or else you will not learn the material and each week you will have a quiz. She gives so much extra credit, so just show up to class. Be prepared to memorize polyatomic ions. Only downside is purchasing a clicker but she counts those as extra credit points! Highly recommend her to any non science major!
She's a really great teacher for non-science majors. She explains the material really well. She gives quizzes every week, but as long as you show up to class and understand the material you'll be good. Also, there's a lot of homework but it does help for quizzes and test. Another good thing is that she gives a lot of extra credit.
Professor Patterson uses a homework program that does not relate to her lectures. I loo up every single question on the homework. Very unclear about what will be on quizes and tests. Does not make reviews or post completed powerpoints on her resources on TRACS. Very unintelligent professor, should be teaching middle school
Professor Patterson does a good job of explaining topics and helps students in the class. Sometimes her humor is quite witty and it almost seems like she is mocking you at times but it's not that big of a deal. The homework does not really correlate with the lectures or what we will be tested over. But overall, show up to class, easy A.
Honestly I hated this class because she went too fast and did not care about asking if she was going too fast. She's really nice, but there's no need to take a class as hard as this one if you're not a science major.
If you miss a powerpoint slide she wont go back shell respond "these are posted on tracs you can get the blanks from me during office hours" which is super annoying!!! Also basically taught myself everything cause her examples on the slides were not like the tests/quizzes. And if you do take her get ready to go back to kindergarden.
Mary wasn't the best but she was very sweet and offered alot of extra credit. If you showed up to class and put effort into the class you would pass! Her voice is kind of hard to listen to but she gives examples all through the class to look back to! Study your quizzes/activities for the exams!
Dr. Patterson is a good choice in professors if you enjoy chemistry. If you're not so good at the subject or really dread it, I would steer clear. She goes through her lectures extremely quickly and is quite brief; doesn't go into very much detail. The homework can prove to be very user unfriendly. If you don't attend regularly, good luck passing.
Dr. Patterson is a very nice professor and is very passionate about her field and very knowledgeable. However, Homework can be difficult, but overall the class is good.
Dr. Patterson is an amazing prof. She makes chemistry interesting and easy to understand. She is very open to questions and explains in detail. She gives you all the material to sucked and more!
This is a basic lecture course, but what annoyed myself was that the professor attempts to assign in-class activities, but in a lecture hall it seemed ridiculous.. Other than that the course is not that difficult, but there was math involved, and a lot of material to learn.
Patterson is a solid professor. She always looks scared when she lectures but besides that she's pretty cool. Wants her students to succeed & makes it simple. If you go to class and don't suck at chemistry then its an easy A.
Great professor. She's very helpful to her students and cares a lot about what she does.
The only bad thing about her is that her lectures are super boring and her grader doesn't give partial credit on quizzes , but other than that, this class should definitely be an easy A. She gives many extra credit opportunities, the 3 test and final are not hard at all if you study a little. I thought she was a really cool teacher.
Dr. Patterson is quick to the point, easy to understand, and is very transparent about the coursework. She has flexible office hours and is always willing to help the student out. Attending class is the most important, but her coursework is fairly simple. There are quizzes once every week as well as online homework and clicker questions in class.
She was a good professor but the class requires a lot of work. If you study and do your work on time, you will be fine. She also offers a little bit of extra credit which will help, but don't rely on this to bring your grade up.
Your grade is not determined by whether you know the material, a big chunk is attendance at class and last minute mandatory SI sessions. The out of class meetings equal an entire additional class, I had to drop a class to make time. The only thing I get from them is panic attacks. Profs aren't babysitters. Take literally anyone else.
She is nice and tries to make the lessons as fun as she can. You don't need the textbook but you will need the IClicker remote. She only teaches you what you NEED to know and she lets you out of class at least 5 mins early every day. I recommend writing notes because the powerpoints get messy.
Patterson isn't a bad choice but you do have to buy an iClicker remote and online homework. Slideshows can get a bit messy so make sure you take notes. Quizzes and homework are due almost every week. Tests are all multiple choice. Just make sure to study and go to class because the clicker counts your attendance which is part of your grade.
She didn't teach me, I really had to teach myself, but she gave me all of the materials I needed to teach myself, so I guess that's nice.
She is super passionate about chemistry! We have quizzes every week, and if not a quiz it's a test. She makes sure we are prepared for the test, we even played Jeopardy once. There are plenty other grades, if tests aren't your strong suit.
This class is pretty easy. Make sure you have an Iclicker because thats how she check attendance. Her test is exactly what she says and on the powerpoint. She gives so much extra credit to the point you can fail a test and still pass the class. Attendance is mandatory because if you miss one day you are a section behind. I recommend taking her.
Does many in class activities which counts a lot towards your grade and VERY easy. Tests are easy. Quizzes every week. They dont really count as much so shouldnt be stressed too much about. Homework every week which is also very easy. Gives extra credit. Very sweet professor who cares about her students. Definitely recommend!
Quizzes every week over stuff we barely go over & you cant really learn from her
MJ used to be a high school teacher, and you can tell. She jumps from slide to slide, will introduce new topics in the last 3 minutes of class because "we still have time" and won't touch on that again. Don't read the textbooks before lesson? don't expect to know what she is talking about. She's a nice person, but professor-wise she needs work.
Prof. Patterson is a mediocre prof at best. Her teaching methods are hard to follow and confusing. She grades in class quizzes extremely hard & tests are very lengthy. She talks very slow and her power points always have missing info. I honestly wouldn't recommend taking this class with her. She isnt that nice and is too hardcore for an intro class
Lecture heavy. Post powerpoints though, which is nice. I just feel like she moved way faster than any other chem teacher teaching CHEM1341, and her quizzes were just harder than need be... She is super nice and is very personable, but I just feel like she focused on the easier material rather than what was actually on the HW and tests.
This class isn't an easy A by any means, but she's set it up in a way that if you show up and try, you'll pass easily. Put in a little work? You're basically guaranteed an A or a B. Her lectures were intense, but she provided lots of practice for difficult subjects. She wants her students to succeed, so she does everything in her power to help!
Really lecture heavy, but homework's on Sapling are pretty easy. She drops the lowest quiz grade and drops the lowest exam grade. She provides plenty of resources and extra help for every topic she teaches. I would definitely take her again.
I was very nervous to take CHEM because this was not my favorite hs course, however she was very sweet and helpful. We would have a quiz every week but they were pretty easy. This class is not hard if you try and study but if you skip and don't study it might be difficult. I loved taking this class and would definitely recommend her to someone else
for a non chem major class, she makes it too confusing to follow during lectures. gets off topic easily and the power points aren't helpful. quizzes every week & the grading is not clear at all. she grades based on how she feels not rubric. she is really nice but just not a great professor. tests are always confusing and hard to study for
Professor Patterson is very caring, but not the best at explaining things. There were quizes every week over the material covered in class. Chemistry for sure is no easy class so you gotta actually study. Tests were pretty tough and so was the homework. I would take her again tho.
She is the worst professor I have had during my whole college career. She seems to struggle a bit with the switch to online. I am normally an A+ student, but I had to work the hardest Ive ever had to barely get a B-. Her assignments and tests were so unorganized and her lectures were painful to sit through. She always used the entire 1hr & 40 min
She's cool and nice, but sucks at teaching. Her lectures are long and she doesn't explain. She expects you to know something when we have never been over it in class. Honestly if you have to take chemistry avoid this professor.
She is so so sweet, and is very responsive. You can also tell she really cares about her students, I wish I couldve met her in person! Online class is pretty hard but not too bad with her lectures and resources. Just go to class, pay attention, and do the work on time and youll be fine. Also reach out to her for anything!
She broke down chemistry pretty well for it being an online class and I sent her emails very often and she always responded within 2 hours. Always willing to help and kind of reminds you of your mom. The lectures good because they help you with the weekly quizzes. I definitely recommended her, if you're a non-science major and just want to pass!
If you need to take Chem avoid this professor, she's trash. She goes too fast expects to know everything. Don't get me wrong she is nice, but sucks at her job.
Terrible class!! My first C ever. Ridiculous amount of material to learn! Exams are heavily weighted. She expects you to memorize dozens and dozens of processes for problem solving. She gives practice examples, BUT those examples are EASY, almost everything on the test is VERY HARD. Don't take this class unless you absolutely have to! Awful class!!
Terrible class!! My first C ever. Ridiculous amount of material to learn, especially for a basic course. Patterson weights the tests heavily. She gives EASY examples in class, but the test is full of VERY HARD problems. There are dozens and dozens of processes to learn. She expects you to know everything. Do not take unless you absolutely must!!
She is really good at teaching chemistry, but there is alot of assignments and considering this was a non-science major class it did not feel like the case. Also she won't round you just in case you were hoping for that, I had an 89 and she would not round up one point.
A week before finals she threw in a last subject that was tested on the final which was cumulative so while trying to learn this and study the other material it was hard. Not really great at explaining most things. Lectures were not really helpful I personally found them a waste of time so I never went, she only went over easy material.
she's literally so sweet and the class is easy to pass, definitely recommend
Took Professor Patterson for Chem Nonsci Major and enjoyed it. You can tell she really loves the subject which is awesome. She's super nice you can tell she wants you to succeed. Don't need to read the book, just take good notes over her pre-recorded lectures.
Dr. Patterson is LOVELY! I took this class Fall 2020 and she was wonderful. She really cares about students, she wants you to succeed, and she knows her stuff. She is passionate about her subject and will go beyond to help you out. She's a lovely person and I highly recommend her!!
Super sweet and caring. she really knows her stuff and seems so care a lot about her student. best prof ive had so far
Her class was the hardest class I've taken so far in college but she provides short lecture videos and slides that are EXTREMLY useful when studying for her class. Chem is a very hard subject but she provides enough material to study to be able to pass her class. Overall she is very caring and responsive but the course is difficult
I personally loved her and the class. For a non-science major class is was a lot of work though. You have 4 exams and that makes up 60% of your grade. It's not mandatory to go but she gives many in-class handouts THESE ARE KEY. Those are why I made A's and B's on her exams they allow that extra practice. She gets back to you a little slow though.
Prof. Patterson understands that her class is a non- science major course. Yes there is a quite bit of work, but she had all her lectures and notes online. Easy to talk to, but just know you do have to put effort into her class. I know my fellow classmates would disagree with me so, just depends on how good of a student you are.
She is an amazing professor! she is very sweet and explains everything you ask for. chemistry is a hard class as it is and that is why I did not pass her class but if I was only taking her class by itself, I would have gotten an A.
If you're reading this, take this class. Patterson moves quickly during course but uploads her lectures, powerpoints and will actively walk around the class and work one on one with students. She cares and acknowledges we are in a pandemic and adapts her teaching to make students succeed. She is pure joy. Read the PowerPoints, and take good notes!
This was the most challenging class I've ever taken. Dr. Patterson goes through the material so quickly, so if you're not good a math, good luck trying to understand the content. The tests are worth most of your grade, so it's hard to raise your grade if you do poorly on them. She does give extra credit, though, which will save your grade.
I took Professor Patterson's July 1310 course, I was expecting it to be a difficult class which it was, but Professor Patterson lectures extremely well and helps you understand the material. As long as you take notes during lectures you will do great on exams. She includes past exams for study material which is helpful.Take her if you can! Amazing!
Professor Patterson is an incredible teacher of Chemistry. I took her class in July & was quite anxious as I had never been fond of Chemistry in the past. She really cares about what is being taught and is willing to help you understand something if you're struggling to comprehend the material. Chemistry is difficult! Prof Patterson makes it fun!
She an ok professor. Her lectures are really fast and she jumps around a lot. But she posts her lectures that go more in depth about the material online. Most stuff I had to learn outside of class on my own due to her fast lectures.
Super caring and understanding that this class is for non-science majors--she made chem easy to understand & provided formula charts on quizzes & exams because she didnt expect us to memorize. Grades consisted of weekly quizzes, online homework, in-class activities, & a few exams (multiple choice).
Professor Patterson is great for non sci majors, but chemistry just sucks.
Dr. Patterson was super helpful in teaching chemistry to non-sci majors. There was a quiz every week, but she drops the lowest grade. She also does the same for in-class activities and she replaces one of your midterm exams with your final if you scored higher. She reviews before every exam and gives out extra credit.
When coming into chem 2 I was so nervous because chem 1 was brutal, but MJ made me LOVE chemistry and understand it! She has great resources and goes over example problems in class. The only hard part about the class is the exams are 45 minutes, so you really need to know the material. She is so sweet and I'm grateful that she was my professor!
Shes very good at breaking things down for non-science majors. She talks in a very simplistic way that kinda reminds me of a middle school teacher(which is great if you're not good at science). However I did feel like she was a little condescending when I would ask questions. You'll have an in-class assignment at least once a week so make sure u go
Plenty of EC opportunities which was nice but I've never had such a disorganized professor. Oftentimes seemed distracted and glued to her phone, took WAY to long to grade things in a 5-week session. Came across as snarky when asking about grades. Tests get handed back. Tophat is used so attendance is mandatory. Quizzes, they are not multiple choice
Dr. Patterson is one of the best professors I have ever taken for multiple reasons. She provides so many resources for us to learn the material, has a clear class schedule + grading structure, has office hours and gives multiple chances for extra credit. She is also very caring and is constantly finding better ways to help students learn Chemistry!
Some good things are that there are lots of grades, syllabus is always up to date, and is helpful when asking questions. Some not good things are that she gives a 4 question quiz every week and if you dont FULLY know the material she taught the class before, you will fail every single quiz. She also gets distracted easily and will go on tangents.
Very caring. Class got behind due to her not being able to keep up with MWF schedule, so only take her T&TR class if available. Test are exactly from lecture and practice tests are your best friend. Open ended quizzes and very few extra credit opportunities. Final replaces lowest exam.
CHEM1342 is overall just a hard class. Professor Patterson did her best to explain everything and give us the resources needed. She was very available and wanted to help as well as gave us many opportunities to help our grade.
Great teacher, you can tell she really enjoyed teaching chemistry. Lots of homework, there were quizzes and 4 exams but they were all vital in retaining the information. She makes sure that with the work you're given, you definitely understand the material. It's a difficult course but she was always helpful and gave extra credit.
MJ Patterson is an amazing professor. She provides many opportunities to get help outside of class. There are quizzes every week, not multiple choice, so make sure to study. Chem isn't easy, but Patterson does a great job working through practice problems and explaining the material. She provides lots of extra credit throughout the semester.
Dr. Patterson is kind, but she goes through subjects so fast. The content isn't super hard, but there's a ton to remember. Take notes. Lots of short quizzes and online homework paired with a test over each unit. Also graded SI sessions. Extra credit is available, and higher test grades replace the previous one.
Dr. Patterson provides resources in order for you to succeed, however there were times in lecture where she was rushed and topics were hard to get a grasp on. There were times I had to look into topics myself because lectures were rushed and unclear. If the next test score is higher than the previous test score it replaces it which helped a lot.
Professor Patterson is extremely caring about her students and very understanding. She was so kind to me and was helpful with accommodating to my needs. Class was pretty easy, just pay attention and study.
Dr. Patterson is very helpful and knows exactly how to teach chemistry to students who are beginners. She gives multiple examples for every topic and gives reviews that help students do well on tests. I would definitely take her class again!
Dr Patterson was a really caring and competent professor. Her lectures were sort of uninteresting, though, and were powerpoint heavy, which is a problem for some students, like myself. However, she was really helpful and was ready to answer any questions. If you don't mind powerpoint style lessons, she won't pose any issue.
Dr. Patterson is very knowledgeable, and you can tell in the way that she teaches. She was always willing to help and was available outside of class. She's also very understanding when it comes to assignments. Her lectures are very PowerPoint based, and attendance isn't mandatory but there is in-class work so don't expect to pass if you don't go.
Very kind and understanding, easy to access outside of class, I recommend taking her as the stress she puts on you as a teacher is minuscule compared to some other professors, overall a great lecturer and great teacher
Professor Patterson is dedicated, but the fast pace makes it challenging. Lots of homework and quizzes, but she provides resources to succeed. Using Unstuck AI alongside the practice tests really helped me prepare for the exams.
Awesome professor, she was easy to follow and tried to make sure the class understood what she was talking about. She isn't the funniest or more interesting professor, but overall, I enjoyed taking her class.
Good at teaching and makes sure studnets understand concept before moving on by asking questions Very exam heavy
turrible no good, pushes exams and quizzes back every time without fail, so dont stress about studying because you probably won't have to take it
Her lectures feel rushed & she gets off topic easily making it difficult to follow along. She can be disorganized (forgetting to bring quizzes to class, forgetting to release assignments on time). She also doesn't grade assignments & put them into the grade book in a reasonable amount of time making it very difficult to keep track of your grade.
Her lectures are not super interesting but she covers all the material she needs to. She is very accessible outside of class. She does give weekly quizzes and in class assignments so attendance is important.
She does assign papers in class, and they are for a grade, so you do need to go. This class is challenging, but she makes it simple; just pay attention, and minimal studying is needed. She gives you lots of resources to use. Exams are EASY IF YOU PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS AND SHOW UP. Weekly quizzes and reviews. The reviews are extra credit.
I love Mrs.Patterson; she is amazing. If you show up to class and put in the effort, this class is easy. She gives so many opportunities for extra credit and is always willing to work with her students.
Dr.Patterson has been one of my favorite professors from freshman year. Super reliable, knows her stuff, and she won't be afraid to answer your questions during class and challenges students to try doing the in-class work with their table mates. Overall, super easy class if you follow along with the notes, make flashcards, and do the homework.
Dr. Patterson really enjoys what she teaches which makes the class a lot better and easier to grasp concepts. The class is HARD, but if you keep up with the homework and review lectures before and after class you should do okay. In class pop quizzes which is why I'd say attendance is mandatory.
Absolutely love her, she explains things very well and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. There is a textbook but I never read it and still ended with an A so... Attendance isn't mandatory but go to class since there is a lot to learn. I would recommend taking her if you're not the best at chem!
She's not the best teacher I've ever had but really cares about her students and is so sweet and helpful
I never received my exam back for the exam autopsy assignment, and the exam was never posted on Canvas. I emailed as soon as I realized this, but received no response. When I later spoke with her, she acknowledged the mistake but said to me she would still give me a zero. Very disappointed in the lack of consideration after she lost my exam :(
Don't recommend taking her,she purposely makes things hard for students and then blames the students for having low grades. Her exam averages are 60 or less across all classes and blames the students for not studying. She weighs assignments very low and exams very high, and if you're not doing so great, she'll give you a withdrawal recommendation.😃
I loveeee this professor!! she is such a sweet little old lady. Even though chem is a hard subject she breaks it down in such a good way and makes it easy to understand and if you don't get it you can always go to her office hours. If you have a bad grade in here probably bc chem can be hard. TAKE HER!! :)
Patterson is a very nice woman. You can tell she cares about her work. Her home works are not bad and the lectures are decent to follow. My only big gripe is the tests. They are TOUGH. The reviews are not the best to go off of, they give you a false sense that the test will be simple and easy. Review and study heavy before a test and youll be fine!
She's a wonderful professor who truly cares about her students; she's awesome. She's very flexible and is willing to meet with every student. The only difficult thing about her is that she expects you to go in knowing everything beforehand, which makes it hard to keep up and meet her where she's at.
If you want a professor that doesn't put grades in until the last week of the semester, take prof Pat. She's a nice enough person but she's not a great professor. She spends very little time on the super complex topics and draws out the easy stuff way too long. Seriously. She does NOT put grades in on any timely basis. Very hard to know your grade.
, don't take her, she goes through her slides so quick and doesn't really stop to go over it more and if you ask she will just tell you to go to office hours. There's a quiz pretty much every week. She blames students for failing her exams when the class average is around a 50, she would say y'all should study more and not blame her self
Don't take her. She waits until the very last week to submit grades. She throws quizzes at you every week. Her reviews for exams are no help. She doesn't take attendance but has “exit tickets” for a grade… and I've never heard of an exam being a week before your final exam. If she puts class on zoom, she'll have the recording deleted shortly after.
Professor Patterson is a great person, she knows her stuff and is there to help you if you need help. Although she's kind, her teaching style isn't ideal. She gives 3 exams for the ENTIRE semester, and the last one is a week before the final. She puts in grades late and there's weekly pop quizzes. A good chunk of my peers who tried still struggled.
don't bother trying to get any assignment graded on time. I sent a very polite email asking about grades that haven't been put in from over a month and a half ago, got a one word SUPER unprofessional email that just said "soon." all lower case, no "have a good day" no "goodmorning". this professor does not respect her students or their concerns.
i have never dropped a course before but this one i did. The reviews for the test are nothing like the actual exams and she is actively trying to confuse students with the test questions. This class is not worth the time or effort especially if you're thinking about transferring to a different school since the credit won't transfer.
I enjoyed her class and teaching style. It's very lecture heavy so try not to skip, and if it's necessary then you can email her/go to office hours to see what you missed. There is a textbook with assigned chapters but everything is covered in class so I chose not to read it. Don't forget about the polyatomic quizzes. All tests are cumulative!
LOVED this professor. Has minimal extra credit opportunities, but theres still some. Drops many things at the end of the semester. She knows how to teach very well in class, also explains things very well. 9/10. I wish there were more extra credit opportunities. Enjoyed going to this class. I recommend her 100 percent.
A great teacher. There is a lot of content, so don't skip class. Weekly homework and quizzes that are easy if you study. Exams are cumulative and reviews are provided, but do not cover the full extent of the exam. The material is taught well, but at a faster pace. Plenty of assistance outside of class. An A is there, but you have to work for it.
She is a very nice person who wants to see you succeed and encourages office hours. However, vast majority of your grade is thro exams- and the only way to replace a low exam grade is to do better on the next exam to replace it. Her study guide sheet only covers like 70% of exam content. It's achievable to get an A, you just have to work for it.
Chemistry was never easy for me but she explains well. Just show up to the lectures and put in a little bit of outside class effort then you'll be fine. Homework is easy and helpful. She is a great professor
