I ahve taken AP Biology in high school and here class is not as hard but still here test can kill you if you dont study for them. If you are not a Bio major or really interested in Biology then get out of her class but she will set you up inf you have to take harder class and she does know her stuff

She is an awesome instructor who knows her subject matter in detail. Her test are tough, but if you study, you will pass the class with a good grade. If you want to be taught by one of the best, take her class. She will prepare you for the other science subjects that are to come.

I got into this class by accident. I had taken AP Bio in hs, but I had not intended to take a majors BIO class in college. HOWEVER, I did surprisingly well in the class and I really enjoyed it, so I am changing my major as a result. I now plan to major in BIO and go to VET school. :)

Ms. Phillips is a very caring teacher.I ended up in the hospital for 10 days this semester and she offered to tutor me if needed. She gives great reviews for exams.The class is hard but if you can't handle it then mabey you souldn't be in Bio for majors!

She has a heart of gold. Her class is challenging but she will bend over backwards to meet you half way. You have to work for it, but if she see's you're trying, she'll work with you. I like her a lot.

I thought she was one of the best professors I have ever had. Her class is tough but if you apply yourself, study, and show up to class you will do well. Lab practicals are very challenging. Do all the extra credit you can. She is a very nice lady and she tries very hard to make sure you have a good understanding of course material.

I took her clas for non majors and felt like I was in a class for majors, work wasnt to hard but test were very long and difficult. If you have A.D.D dont take her class you will go crazy

I liked her. I do admit that if you get on her bad side then you are out of luck but if you don't do anything to piss her off then you are good. I'm the class clown and I had a great time in her class. but there were only 15 of us and the class was very close. Her tests just get you ready for a real university so get use to it.

If you are majoring in a science/health field this is the best class to prepare you for university level classes. She expects her students to learn and work hard. I passed with a 98% overall. She is very willing to help students learn.

Mary is a wonderful instructor. I have to admit the ratings were intimidating, but so not true! Realize that you must study. She is preparing you for your major. If you work hard your grade will reflect that. Had a great time in her class. Caring and funny. Go to her if you need help. Loved it and peaked my interest in the subject.

Mary was an excellent teacher! Very caring, and very helpful but a little hard to follow at times. You just have to pay attention and study study study study so don't expect an easy "A". I LOVED THIS WOMAN! She is so enthusiastic about BIO. It is her life! She will not give a test unless everyone is ready for it. If you have a question, she will stop the entire class until she knows every1 is clear on it. Not an easy A, but not a hard class. LOVED IT!

She's smart, funny but very serious about Biology. Loved her lecture "Death by the Decimal." I finally learned the metric system. She is patient and loves to learn herself. Use the Guide to write and do graphs. It really helps. Could not have done as well.She REALLy tries to help you.

Ms Phillips makes you think...HIV, Mad Cow, frog decline, nanotech, some stuff I have not even heard about ever! I now read the NY Times! and Yahoo news... Bio was a blast!Cool YouTube and websites. Study her notes. She tells you most of the questions on the test during review. Do essays ahead of time.

Phillips was an excellent teacher. She told us what to expect at the beginning of the semester. She told us the class would be intensive but she was reasonable and was always ready to help. The class defiantly prepared me for upper level bio classes.

Sometimes I am frustrated with her "openness", but overall I do like Prof Phillips. She makes you think about issues around you. If you are in lab and you are really lost, she will help you. She is good at reviewing you for the test and actually recognizes when you are learning difficult material. I took for her non-majors and I'm glad i did.

Honors was a lot more work than I thought. I liked the field trips and counted buterflies for Oxley...that was fun! SHe likes the NY times for current events and YouTube....She is very knowledgeable and knows her stuff. Do the labs- get the Guide to help with lab reports and essays.

She sets high standards, which is extremely helpful in establishing habits necessary for doing well in the upper-level courses. My one complaint is that she doesn't teach any other classes I need.

I had Prof Phillips this summer.... the course is fast, but she made it fun. She works very hard and wants her students to know what is happening in science. Loved the Linnean Gardens and having to take my picture with Linneaus to email her! It was fun!

Summer school Bio is NOT easy. You have to be organized or be left behind. We had to take our picture with Lineaus....I had no idea who he was or where the statue was! Now, I know. That was fun! Took her non-majors summer class. It is fast-paced, but she scratches the semester project you'd normally have to do and also the community volunteering aspect of one of the labs. Labs are really fun, and she really tries to make biology relevant to everyone. She is patient with slow learners if she can tell that they're trying.

Fantastic professor! She is very clear and willing to clarify any time you ask. She speaks directly to your goals (nursing, pre-med, majors) to help you pay attention to specific items that might help in the future. Tons of extra credit! Hardest class I've ever had. Don't expect an easy A. I learned a lot but worked really hard! DO the labs and get all the extra credit you can, you'll need it. She loves this stuff. Be ready to read the NY Times. Very fair and willing to help.

Mrs. Phillips is nice, however she isn't the best teacher. She seems a little ditzy & therefore confusing. If you miss her class, you can make it up another day of the week. Tests are open book and you get a study guide for the final. Labs are easy and there aren't many assignments. Take her, but try to stay focused.

Here's how it is: You need to show up to class, so that you don't get behind. Don't complain if you're never there, so you don't understand what's happening. I took blended class and it was awesome. Gives tons of resources to use for study, only gives 1 lab assignment per week, usually. Tests are open book. Final has a comprehensive study guide.

I went to Costa Rica with Ms Phillips for biology! It was awesome. Up at 5:00 am bird watching, hike, walk, rafting, working all day, end with an evening presentation and hike. I lost 10 pounds! I was tired, but learned so much from the great instructors. Go to CR if you can.

She is an amazing prof! she's very enthusiastic about what she teaches. she has study guides sometimes that help with tests. Buy the E-book not the textbook cuz she really likes it and has extra credit for the quizzes that come with it. I have an A and haven't found it very hard. she does give strange and sometimes tedious assn sometimes though.

There were so many STUPID people in our class I wonder how she was so patient. Prof Phillips is brilliant and I agree too many slackers and lazy people going to school. I took Honors Bio1114 even though I am not an honors student. She teaches at the college level. It akes time to get used to a REAL college class. She will help you if you ask. She gives pre and post tets for our benefit. It's fun to watch her see what students are writing. She creates a fun, friendly, safe class to laugh at ourselves and with her, too! Love her style. I had Prof Phillips for Bio for Majors. You have to study for the tests and pay attention to her lectures! I made some bad grades on the tests but I am still managing an 81 and hopefully will have a 91 when she grades my lab report. I'm not a bio freak so it's not like I loved this class. If you love bio, you'll love her.

She is so sweet! My favorite teacher. Her tests were very difficult though. She would tell us what to study for the tests but then the test would be different. Other than that she was perfect! Labs were easy. Lectures were interesting. Just be prepared to go above and beyond for the tests. But I would recommend her for anyone! Take this teacher!!!

I took this class online, there are a lot of assignments but they are easy! Keep up with the work and you'll do great. She grades the labs and the discussion board post by giving you a 100% if you did the work. Sometimes her directions were confusing but she would respond to emails quick to clarify. Take this class if you need it!

I took class this summer and learned more biology than I ever did in high school. Assignments were fun, doable, and were not overwhelming. Online tests and review questions were very fair. Very nice, kept us informed, responded to emails quickly. Loved her Discussion questions. Highly recommend online.

Easy A! But I ended up with a B! I took the online non mjor class which at first was overwhelming, but once you visit with her in her office you will get a better understanding. Extra credit & hard open book tests. I STRONGLY recommend taking this course online. Keep up with the work! She gives you credit for doing the work. The labs were FUN!!

Prof Phillips was an okay teacher. She loved Bio and loved teaching, but seemed scattered at times and a bit disorganized. If you stay on top of your work and keep an eye on your grades you'll be fine. Tests are tough, but clear. Do your reading and online work and GO TO CLASS. Zeros for labs you don't attend. Labs are easy and fun.

Professor Phillips is a fantastic person. I have never had a legitimate biology class before this one. Labs are easy and fun and never take the full time allotted, pick a smart group though. Go to class, if you miss one it's not a big deal. Hardly any homework. The tests are not easy, but for the final she will give a replica beforehand.

If you have any interest in science TAKE this prof. She is super passionate about guiding students to a major. This class was not easy, do the connect stuff, it is a big part of your grade. Go to class, she doesn't take attendance but sometimes she does part of lab in class and if you miss it there are no makeups. Phillips is an awesome teacher.

It's a decent amount of work, not a lot, not a little. If you keep up with it, it's actually pretty easy because it's basically all straight from the book. She's really helpful and emails you back quickly with answers. Very nice and very interested in her subject!

Took her for Biology for majors and her tests are hard. I read the book ahead of time did all her work on connect and learnsmart and still made low B's and high C's on tests. A lot of work and the book is hard to understand but her lectures are not on point to help you understand whats on the tests. Wonderul lady but a fanatic about science.

Ms Phillips blended bio was the best of both worlds for me. You do have to pace yourself but everything is on Bb or Connect . She does allow for extensions....be sure to ask if you need one. I got an A, but did have to work and do all the work. Most tests are online open book with more than one try? TAKE this instructor. She is awesome..Loved BIO.

Professor Phillips is incredible. Bio is a tough subject, but she tries her hardest to help everyone, even on an individual level. Tests shouldn't be too hard if you've taken the necessary steps to learn the material. Lots of extra credit available and easy labs are only the homework. She does everything she can to help students understand.

This was my first on-line class. I loved it. She was very helpful and organized with assignments, due dates, answered emails promptly. Loved the topics and videos. The labs were fun, but you will need to buy a few items from the grocer. Not too easy, not too hard either. Keep up is a must!

Took the blended class and there was a quite a bit of work but she is very helpful and responds to your emails. If you don't mind a lot of work and like biology then she is your girl. She was also teacher of the year in 2012 and 2013.

I made a B only because I got sick and missed a lab that couldn't be made up. Everything was set up for everyone to succeed, she doesn't like it when students fall behind and makes sure to make everything easy to understand and goes at the pace of the class as a whole. TAKE HER! There is a reason she won teacher of the year 2013!

She was a very good teacher. She is good with keeping up with emails. I was pregnant while i took this class and she understood if i were to get behind and helped me quite a bit. She offers a lot of extra credit and i advise you to do as much EC as offered. and PAY ATTENTION, she gives you all info in lecture that are on the tests.

This was a retake for me. I loved the assignments and easy layout of the course. The course was very fast paced, but I am so glad I took the course on-line with Phillips. I learned so much from the videos and assignments. Awesome class. Keep up with the work and you will do fine.

You can tell she loves biology and shares lots of articles from NY Times. I chose a service learning project instead of a research project. I am now working part time at the nursing home i volunteered.

The final is INSANE!! She is the nicest lady and she loves science! Also, if you mention NASA, she will LOVE you!! The class (biology for majors) was extremely difficult for me. I love Professor P! She is a very understanding teacher and will work with you on due dates. Do the pretest she gives you for tests. she gives a 5 point extra credit opportunity with every test and an additional 20 points that can be attained on top of that. I really loved Professor Phillips. I genuinely enjoyed attending her class each week. There were sometimes when the assignments were a bit confusing, but she was extremely lenient with due dates when she knew that we were confused. Professor Phillips is a great teacher, I wish I had the opportunity to take a class in person. Her assignments are clearly structured and organized. Professor Phillips was an awesome professor to have when switching to online-live classes. She made sure that everyone was included and made sure to let us know that we were appreciated. She was very sweet, and assignments were very "transparent" as she would say. 10/10 would take her again for another class.

There was lots of reading and assignments, but I could get them all done pretty quickly if I just sat down and did them. The exams can be challenging if you did n ot do the reading, because some questions come from the book, and are not mentioned in the power point. Other than that, it was a very enjoyable class.

I'm not a huge science fan, but this was a fun class! Prof. Phillips is wonderful! I took the 8wks so it was very homework heavy, but you can work ahead! There are a few virtual labs (easy)! You will have 3 unit test, a few more test, and a final project. This project was fun I was able to go to the Tulsa Zoo for free & take pics for my project!

The expectation and due dates are clearly laid out. Assignments are due every two weeks. A mixture of questions, labs, and quizzes. For an online class, it was pretty simple and very doable.

This class was super fun and enjoyable! I took the online 8-week class and there were assignments due every week. Everything was well laid out and even room to work ahead a few weeks if desired. I took this online with another 8 week science class and I never stressed too bad! Fun online labs too!

(Class taken Fall 2021) This was an independent online class, so I have more to say about the class itself than prof Phillips. Although you don't have to go to a lab since it's online, you should still be prepared for mountains of homework every week. If you're disciplined enough to sit down and grind it out, you'll do great.

Mary Wells Phillips at first can come across strong but she is genuinely very caring. There is a lot of homework so be prepared to spend time on this outside of class. However, if you complete your assignments you will do well. Biology is not my strong suite and she did a great job of helping me understand the material and feel welcome.

I'd strongly recommend Prof Phillips if you need a lab science credit. All homework and exams, including final, are online and labs are fun and easy; there's a service learning project w/ presentation as well. The service-learning requires a few hours of volunteer but it was my favorite part of the class. She is very nice and helpful; LOVED this class and Prof.

Thank you, Prof P. You are an amazing prof. Very caring and understanding. I really enjoyed the class. The labs were fun and interesting. Tests are open book but need to study. The service project really helped me connect my volunteer to what we were studying. I would start the project early. I would definitely take Prof Phillips if you can.

Professor Phillips was great!! You can tell she really cares for her students and wants you to succeed. I took her biology class for non majors which made the coursework pretty easy. The only thing is that she has a service learning project that you have to present at the end of the semester. Overall it is not too bad.

I took the blended version of the course. The labs were fun. She is nice and is willing to work with you about a missed assignment or lab as long as you email or talk to her about it. Assignments are pretty easy. Only complaint is that sometimes she would think she answered my questions without actually giving me a straight forward answer.

This class was terrific. It has a heavy workload that can be time-consuming, and there is required volunteer time. Overall, Professor Phillips was kind and very helpful. She reminded the class regularly that she genuinely cared. The class itself was very informative, and its structure was adequate.

Wonderful professor, who truly cares about the success of her students. Would take her class again.

Prof Phillips is an amazing professor who really cares about her students. She loves teaching biology and is always so positive. The labs were interesting with lab reports- but they weren't hard. Service-learning is the class project. I appreciated how much of my life is related to biology. I wish she taught other classes. Highly recommend her!

Prof Phillips is the BEST! I enjoyed her lectures before lab, and the labs were easy and fun. She is very caring and patient. Start early with your service-learning project. .I would take her again - YES!!!!!

I absolutely loved this professor! She was so passionate about the subject and really cared about all of her students. I loved the service project. Easily one of the best professors I've ever had!

Prof P is very nice and patient. The class is well-organized and easy to follow. Watch the due dates! I would take her for all my classes. She explains things so you can understand. LOVE PROF P

Prof P is one of my favorites at TCC. Loved her class and she is VERY nice! Service-learning project has 5 hr minimum so you don't really need all the 15 hours if you can't. You can also do service hours online! One of my favorite projects at TCC. I wish Prof P taught other classes.

She is a sweetheart! I will say be smart about where you sit on the first day because it's a lot of group work in this class.
