I love this woman. She is funny, but doesn't try too hard. She knows what she's talking about. Puts up powerpoints before exams, but exams are pretty straight-forward. Extra credit given through quizzes and attendence. SUCH A GREAT teacher. Lightyears ahead of my first gy teacher. Truly, she makes a 9:30 class worth waking up for.

Very nice and very good teacher. She tries to keep the class interesting with pictures during the powerpoints and case studies. She has a very odd humor but is funny. Class extremely easy. Go to class and you'll do fine. She gives a lot of extra credit. Very easy to talk to about your grade or concerns you have. Has a very awesome accent.

She is a great teacher. Pitts knows what she is talking about and answers any questions you have. If she doesn't know the answer she will find out for you. Her quizzes are easy since they are mostly open book. Her tests are more challenging but doable if you take good notes. No book required except for the Illustrations in the books. Easy A!

Unless you like the material, this is a pretty boring class. However, Pitts is a very understanding and very thorough professor, and this course is certainly worth taking for a natural science course. Be sure to take good notes and to study the graphics. Textbooks truly are only necessary to confirm lecture materials and for clearer graphics.

Mrs. Pitts is great! Not only is she a good teacher, but she's also a genuinely nice person. She cares about her class and what she teaches. She is always willing to help (not that you'll need it). Textbooks aren't that necessary to buy if you attend EVERY class and make sure you understand all of the notes and graphics. I highly recommend her :)

Mrs. Pitts is a good teacher. However, it is hard to be motivated to go to class when the exact notes she uses in class are on eLearning. Tests can be a little difficult unless you study a lot. Online quizzes help your grade though. The labs are generally pretty easy, but depends on TA.

I am horrible at science and still ended up with a B+ in the class. She gives chances to earn points here and there and does not try to trick you. She LOVES geography and class is really boring, but I'd suggest taking this class over geology, astrology, etc. STUDY THE GRAPHICS FOR THE TEST

Take her class!! She is so helpful and interesting. She makes geography actually seem interesting and makes her tests fairly easy too. Make sure you study the graphics she tells you because I guarantee they will all be on the test!! Go to class too because she will boost your grade in the end.

Great professor, but kin of boring information sometimes. She does the best she can though to make it interesting. She is really passionate about what she does, which definitely helps. Not difficult to make a good grade. Do not take an 8AM lab...miserable. The lab was the worst part of this class by far. The lecture isn't bad.

Very good teacher. She really cares about the material and tries to make it as interesting as possible, even when it has the potential to be dull. There are three major exams but she goes over what will be on them. Everything comes off of her PowerPoints and lectures and I didn't use my textbook at all, so it's not needed, but the lab manual is.

Ms. Pitts is one of the University's best professors. She is super interesting and keeps the content exciting even though it's sometimes boring. Perfect amount of assignments (not too many!). Excellent professor! Highly recommended.

Mrs. Pitts is a must take if you have to take a natural science. She is a sweet Irish woman who is easy and interesting to listen to. She presents the material flawlessly and her tests are very doable as long as you review and study a little. The lab section is harder than lecture and it isn't too difficult. She is Awesome.

Gives extra credit on random days that attendance is very low, so if the weather is terrible, it's a good day to go to class. Explains everything if you go to class. Tests are not hard if you study.

She has a natural gift for teaching - she is very clear in her expectations and wants all of her students to succeed. Good class, in a really large classroom she takes time to know everyone who comes regularly's name. Attendance is optional but i would recommend it because it brought my grade from an -A to an +A. Tests can be difficult if you don't study but if you prepare you should be fine

I absolutely adore Mrs. Pitts! She is very helpful in and out of class. She is quick to respond to your emails, but make sure to use Blackboard Message. She tells you exactly what you need to know for the test. She puts the power points online. BUT it it is much better to go to class for she tells you Exactly what to study for the exam.

Her lectures aren't mandatory but if you attend you will receive extra credit (which you will be thankful for). Her grading is clear and her lectures are long because she tells TOO MANY personal stories but she's so kind and warm hearted.

I absolutely loved Mrs. Pitts! If I were not in engineering, I would switch to Geography just to take more classes with her. She is so sweet and caring and really does want all her students to pass. She gives out a good amount of extra credit (half came from writing a paper at the beginning of the semester and the rest from attending lectures).

Professor Pitts is a very respectable teacher who does not tolerate cheating. She is fair with each student and gives an extra credit opportunity out of class and in class attendance extra credit. Her class isnt hard, and she trys to make fairly boring concepts, such as: soil and water, somewhat entertaining.

Dr. Pitts is a very good professor, and the class is relatively easy. Even tho attendance isnt required, I would recommend going. Her tests are relatively easy, but you def have to study for them. There are very specific questions that she only mentions once or twice in class. Also, the homework is very obnoxious and takes way too long to do.

I had her for GY 102 during the pandemic. With the hybrid choice I decided to take the online course. Not hard at all. Watch the lectures and then took the test, also print out her review slides. Super kind and super interesting!

I would first like to say that there are a ton of papers in the lab portion of this class and some of them are very hard. Professor Pitts is very nice and accommodating. There are lots of lectures, but the tests pull straight from them. The homework was not the easiest, but was basically bonus points.

I hardly showed up to class once and still got an A+ as all answers to tests are online and they are not proctored. However if you choose to go, she is a super sweet lady and a knowledgeable and excellent teacher.

Great professor, really enjoyed having her just two things to look out for, the lab sucks. It's a ton of writing I think in total I wrote about 65 pages for the labs with graphs/photos. If you need to take an easy science course, take GY 102 with Pitts! You may not do as well if you don't come to class, but if you do go to class, she gives out tons of extra credit. Tests are based on the textbook and lecture so you need to put some work in, but overall an easy class!

I was nervous because I am not studying geography but chose to take 317 because I thought it would be cool and I am so glad I did. Dr. Pitts is great. The class is not that hard; however, the SmartBooks can be tedious. For the Honors section of GY102, you get a much smaller class, no final exam, and 5 field trips to visit environmental labs around campus. If you are looking for an easy Honors science, take GY104 with Dr. Pitts.

Mrs. Pitts was a great instructor for my class, I am in the business school so I took it for the mandatory credit. She knows most people in her class are in it for said science credit but still does the most she can to ensure her students success and still get them engaged in the class. Definitely recommend taking her for your science credit.

Dr. Pitts is the best professor at UA. She cares about what she teaches. It is so easy to make an A if you do the work assigned. There were five field trips and reports for each that took up the majority of our grade. We also had assignments that were due for every module. There were three tests and no final. This class was very easy overall.

One of the nicest and most approachable professors I have ever had. Lectures are very clear, and it is easy to understand what you need to do to get a good grade. Attendance is counted as extra credit on days when the class is emptier, which is how it should be done. Did such a good job teaching that I now have a double major in geography.

Doctor Pitts was perhaps the best professor I had during my college experience, she is funny and engaging and doesn't take herself too seriously. Her lectures are in- depth but interesting and keep your attention. Her exams are VERY writing heavy, make sure you know the material well. The final project can seem daunting but is actually quite quick.

TAKE HER! Professor Pitts is so knowledgeable and funny. This was my favorite class this semester and I learned a ton. Two essay/paragraph/short answer tests, discussion boards, final paper and group presentation but she is a chill grader and if you study the topics she tells you to it is easy to do well.

Professor Pitts is very funny and down to earth. She respects her students' time and might give extra credit for attendance, which isn't mandatory. The homework is online and participation based, and the exams are basically longer, online versions of the homework. The lab visits and resulting lab reports will be the most work, but they're not bad.

She is very caring and passionate about what she does but annoying about it like some, she is there for the students.
