Worst math teacher I have had to date. She has been very unclear and her test are unfair. Mary has no class lesson plan that I could see. She should not be allowed to teach a class as important as Calc II.

I loved her as a teacher. I thought she was very clear in her explanations and was always more than willing to answer questions. She was a good lecturer and kept the class engaged.
the lady is wierd... and hard to understand
Horrible. I dropped the class because I was failing and took it the next semester instead where I received an A. One of my friends took the class with her and had an A until the final where she said he had failed. He went in after hours to see his test and found out that she had made a ton of grading errors. After he fixed the test he got an A.
Mary opened up my world to math. Of all the teachers i've had, and I have had many, Mary is by far the best!! Mary is also easy on the eyes, very hot.
Mary is probably one of the best math teachers I have every had. She explained things very well, and she always answered questions if anybody had them. The class is not that hard, but you do have to go as much as possible. Overall, Mary Rerick is a very good professor.
mary is the best math teacher because she makes math interesting. I always hated math until I took a class from her. She is so funny...and hot!
Math is not my favorite class but Ms. Rerick is fun and upbeat. I have come to her office and she never makes me feel like i am wasting her time. Also i would rate her as hot, she is a good looking lady.
Well, when looking for a word to sum it all up, I suppose you could say, "scary". While it was fun at times, you never really knew what she was going to do next. Kind of like a street hobo. Fun to talk to, but when they get quiet, run the other way. And if you doubt it, ask her about her smelling dreams. Yeah. You'll understand then.
Mary was a good calculus teacher. In general, I really didn't have a problem in her class; her tests were reasonable as were the quizzes (partners are nice for those). She is a little weird, but I think that it made the class more interesting. The only thing I didn't like was the online HW. It was a hassle to work with. Overall, I recommend.
Well. She was a pretty good teacher for the most part. Definately knew what she was talking about in ALL classes. However she did not review for the final... Didnt care for this too much. Also there were some things on the final that she didnt cover in class. Tests were easy and she is very nice.
Mary is a great teacher. She cares about preparing you for the next calc course. Homework was rare and easy, and gave us the answers alot of the time. Was def more about learning than getting a grade. Tests were average. I would strongly suggest her as a teacher. freakin smokin too, yikes.
Applied Calc was a joke of a class. Even if you're not good at math, she makes it easy. All the quizes are either partner quizes, or online quizes which you can take over and over til you get a 10/10. Tests are easy, she explains the material well with practice problems on the board. Only issue was the final, pretty darn hard but whatever
Personally, i didnt like her teaching style. I was in a large class with her and she seemed to think everyone knew everything which led her to not explaining jack. Her quizes are easy, test are difficult.. i would not take a class from her again.
Thought she was great.
She was awful. She would have 50 minute timed tests, and get 3-4 of her own problems wrong each time (she would have 4 multiple choice answers, none of which were the right answer). Completely unfair. Also, she was late for her own class by 5-10 minutes every damn day.
She is a great teacher and definitely can teach very well. I'd highly recommend taking a class from her. Her tests are usually pretty basic problems to show that you understand the concepts. She also grades on quizzes and online homework (key required). Highly recommended!!!!!
pretty laidback. If you don't understand something, you can just say so during class, and she goes over it. This can be good/bad depending on if you knew what she's going over or if you needed more explanation. She had homework online for calc I, which I'm a fan of because the extra grades make tests less important. I'd recommend her class
Well what can I say she grades extremely harsh. I have been going to the student success center here on campus pretty much everday to try and learn what she is teaching in class. So far I've only been able to get D's. combination of unfair partial credit and length of time given for the large exams, makes harder than need be. Is late, calcportal..
Goes through real fast. Doesnt allow ample time for Q&A.
Quizzes are easy because we had partners to do them with. Lecture's aren't too boring and good enough to understand. Tests are multiple choice which can be good and bad.
alright teacher she tries to hard to be funny and cool and it gets really annoying has random quizzes
Mary Rerick is an awesome teacher. She comes to class with a positive attitude, which reflects in her teaching methods. She is understanding, has fair tests, and is funny. She is a baller in my book, and if you take her class, she will be in yours as well.
She is really funny, but goes through the notes really fast.. also the tests are multiple choice so you don't get partial credit on the problems
She goes way too fast...she needs to understand that not everybody is good at math. She is really funny but I would rather have a dull teacher that I am learning from than a funny teacher that makes me confused. 90% of my class got a deficiency last semester...that is ridiculous.
Her tests are ridiculous because each question is usually worth 5 points and you don't get credit for showing work. So you either get it all right or wrong. It is so stupid. I mean really, its math. Showing work is the whole point!
I would not recommend taking any of this professor's classes. She needed to be corrected by the students daily in simple addition and multiplication and would spend ten minutes on a problem that didn't even work out in the end. Her grading was extremely tough on tests and would mark off high amounts of points for simple mistakes.
avoid this professor, makes simple mistakes on examples that she doesn't properly explain and when you ask her for help she sends you to youtube. very harsh grader on tests and does not give partial credit on a question unless you argue.
Mary is very hard to understand if you haven't had a calculus class before. She goes through things without pausing to ask for questions. Her grading system stinks. Takes multiple points off for one minimal error. Definitely would recommend someone (anyone) else for this course.
I love Mary! I was never strong at math in high school and I ended up getting well over an A in the class. She explains things well and is very helpful. If people complain about her not answering questions its because they never asked. She is your friend as well as your professor. If you do your HW and attend class, its fine. Highly Recommend!
terrible teacher, got 100 percent on all my quizzes, but I am still failing the class because her tests are ridiculously hard, and dont match any of the practice tests/problems she gives us.
Mary is the worst math teacher I have ever run into in my entire life. I would never recommend for anyone to take a class with her she is a very hard teacher and is extremely hard to understand. She rushes through each chapter which makes class end early by 15 min every time....but you leave without having learned anything
Mary is NOT a good math teacher. She never explains anything, her classes don't prepare you for her tests, and she goes so fast you cant understand what you're learning. Definitely take this class from a different teacher.
Mary is a funny, cool, and easy-going teacher who changed the way I look at math. You MUST go to her class and do the homework, along with the practice tests she puts up online. Many people on here rip on the teacher because it is a class you have to work at. Homework only takes a half-an-hour, and Mary answers all questions at the beg. of class.
Would not recommend. She rushes through the material, and then when the tests come, you don't know whats going on. Homework? Pretty normal workload, but it doesn't help you prepare for the tests. Expect to be frustrated and teach yourself before the tests.
She was the worst teacher ever, when she actually showed up to class. She missed about 14 classes, was always late and let class go early. All she does is go over the homework from the night before. Then you gotta learn everything on your own. I used the book, youtube, and online sources to learn Calc. Don't take her if you can avoid it
Class was not mandatory but she did quizzes to help bump up our grades so I would go!
Not too bad, better than the rest of the Applied Calc professors. GO TO CLASS! She has lots of "pop" quizzes.
Class isn't that hard and there is no mandatory attendance which is nice; but her inability to respond back to emails and/or update things online make things very frustrating to say the least
She doesnt know what she is doing, so unless you are able to teach yourself, i wouldnt sudjest this class.
Be prepared to learn! She'll do problems in class but you must do work outside of class if you want to pass. She also is very helpful, but you have to go ask her for it!!!
She doesn't allow calculators for basic calculations. This causes many mistakes during her demonstrations of the problems and causes her to have to go back which is thoroughly confusing. I found the online demonstrations given in the homework to be much more helpful, but there weren't that many. Pass on this teacher!
Not clear in practice problems. Messes up calculations and class has to correct her which makes her go back and fix the problem which makes it very confusing for the class. Doesn't seem like she knows what she's talking about. I wouldn't recommend taking a class with her to anyone. I feel like I know less than what I knew when I started the class.
Mary was extremely confusing to listen to. She would always mess up and then she would just move on leaving the class super confused. She tried to be funny, but she really wasn't, just annoying. Didn't make good use of the textbook and most the time she really didn't know what she was doing.
don't take math with her. Her lectures are confusing and you can't see because she is left handed and then turns the page. She never defines anything, just works out problems. tests are multiple choice with 5 pts per question all or nothing, and make up 80% of your grade
Literally worst teacher I have ever had, very nice lady, but often does a majority of the example problems she is trying to teach wrong and doesnt know how to correct them, most people fail her tests/class overall. Her homework assignmetns are tough due to lack of teaching and do not benefit any final grades. AWFUL.
Extremely nice and can be helpful if you go to her office hours. Lectures were very scattered and hard to follow in my opinion. Often messed up on example problems and could not figure out how to fix the mistake(s).
She is an awful professor to say the least. She moves too quickly for anyone who doesn't already know what she's teaching to understand. She attempts to solve problems on the board and rarely ever does them correctly. She also grades more leniently for students she likes. Avoid this professor at all costs. Her tests don't reflect what she teaches.
Nice lady, Horrible teacher.
Nice enough, little crazy but overall worst teacher. Doesnt assign homework but that just means there is nothing to buffer your grade from bad tests. Her final is conceptual true and false questions that contain tiny errors and then the other half is based on 4 show your work, so if you get one wrong sorry that's a letter grade. Avoid at all costs
Wonderful! She sometimes gets off topic, but it makes her class enjoyable. You always take quizzes with a partner and it's open book. Tests can be hard, but you can get partial credit even if your answer is completely wrong. If you ask her for help during office hours, she is great. Definitely do your homework even though it isn't required!
Exams are next to impossible. Homework and quizzes do NOTHING for your grade. Worst teacher. Doesn't explain concepts very well and speeds through everything. Take this class at the base. Entire math dept sucks. Not one good teacher.
Run away as fast as you can, not a good teacher at all, over half the class failed. Get ready to learn a lot by yourself or find a tutor.
Out of the kindness of my heart do NOT take the class with Mary. Great person but just not a good teacher. 17% of students pass this class. Take with Farm over Rerick trust me. Or even better take it at the Air Force Base thats a guaranteed B
I'm not speaking to you as a fellow classmate...I'm speaking to you as a friend. Do NOT take this professor. Everyone has sympathy for me for having to go through this tragic chain of events with Mary. Take the class with Stewart Farm...much more approachable. Or if you take it at the Air Force Base it's a guaranteed A or B. Hope this helped :P
she is straight to the point teaching style with basic examples but the tests are hard. she doesnt really go into teaching you basics, so if you havent taken math like me in 8 years your going to need a tutor for this class. she does work with you during office hours but you have to try. nice lady outside class but very demanding class overall.
You definitely need to be willing to put in the work, but she's enjoyable to listen to and pretty open to helping people with what they need. If math comes naturally to you you should be okay, otherwise you better be willing to study.
Extremely tough to follow along. Teacher was constantly getting the problems wrong. Assignments and quizzes didn't count for much leaving your grade depending on the test. Took me over five assignments getting 100% on every one to get my grade up one percent. Would not suggest taking this to anyone unless you took the class in high school.
Mary gets kinda a bad rap. The class itself is hard by design. It has Calc 1,2, and 3 concepts all wrapped up in one class. So that can be a bit much. All the test were curved pretty substantially. I went from a C to a B with the curves. I don't love math and do not plan on taking another math class but for what it is, I feel she did a good job.
She has a bad reputation, sure she isn't the best instructor but its calculus. It's a hard subject as is. She is going to help you if you ask for it! It is gonna be hard if you aren't willing to work but there are definitely worse math teachers
Best decision I ever made.... was taking this class at the base. Failed 146 twice with Mary. Class fail rate is very high. Worst class I've ever taken. I could rant but I won't. Take it at the base where you will actually learn and enjoy your class. I got an A with no tutor.
I would recommend Mary for applied calculus. She is good at explaining things, her tests are multiple choice (which has its pros and cons), there are assignments for every lesson online, and she has a quiz every week. The day of the quiz tends to vary from week to week. She is good at explaining things one-on-one if you need extra clarification.
Mary has a different teaching style than many people have probably experienced before. You must ask questions in class and in office hours. Also have to be self-motivated because the homework is optional but it must be done if you expect to pass. We were only graded on 10 quizzes, 3 tests, and the final for the semester grade.
Difficult if you struggle with math. Took with her and got a 69% and she wouldn't round up, took at base with Rachel Anderson (highly recommended) and managed to get an A. All exams are multiple choice with 5 options, 1 being "Not Given" which increases test anxiety!!
Mary is FAB!!! She's fast with her lessons, but they are clear & easy to follow if you pay attention. She gets off topic easily to tell a funny story but it's worth it. If you need help, you MUST be responsible enough to get help! The math tutoring center is great! All of her quizzes are partner quizzes. Her tests can be difficult. NO calculators..
Mary seems like a cool person, but isn't the best at teaching. She expects you to know how to do a lot of the problems on your own. She doesn't go into depth on how to do equations unless you raise your hand and ask her to. Also, she seems to make quite a few mistakes in her lectures with stundents constantly correcting her on her lectures.
I love Mary! She is awesome. I would definitely recommend her to anyone considering Math146. The tests can be difficult but you need to put in the time to understand the lessons. The math tutoring center is great! She also tells funny stories that can get the class off track, which is a nice break from math. I would totally take this class again!
If possible take another professor. She may mess up every problem she writes on the board but will not give any partial credit if you mess up on the test.
Do not take her, she is late for every class and that is not for your benefit. Showed up late on test day, didn't have the tests ran off, ended up passing out tests 10-15minutes past the hour and nobody finished. She threatened to walk out in 20 seconds and if your test wasn't in her had you got a zero! DO NOT TAKE!
Ms. Rerick expects you to do your homework. Gives plenty of quizzes, however is very willing to help explain formulas. She keeps it fun with her hilarious stories. I do lose my concentration at times as she is quite hot!!!! I highly recommend Mary for a breath of fresh air compared to other bland prof's.
Mary is not a helpful professor. She expects everyone to be an expert on the topic she teaching then gives extremely difficult tests. Also don't expect her to show up to her office hours because she probably has a headache all the TIME!!! She wont respond to email either. Her average fail rate is somewhere between 80-90 percent.
Terrible teacher. Expects you to be an expert on the topic at hand as though someones life is at stake. Does a mediocre job of explain the basics, then with no transition moves onto the hard stuff. Gets off topic every single day. Tests are incredibly hard and do not correlate to any of the practice problems she gives you. Avoid her at all costs.
Mary has a tendency to get off topic and spend majority of class talking about things not math related. Isn't a very good teacher, expects the students to already know a lot of the concepts and formulas.
She goes on tangents a lot. Doesn't stay on topic, doesn't teach clearly.
I feel like Mary gets a bad rep because she goes off on lots of tangents - I actually think this is excellent because it breaks up all the tedious math work. In class, we go through a lot of examples building up into the hard stuff, but the tests aren't really that bad. she's hilarious and she'll help you if you need it, you just need to ask :)
I would not recommend Mary to anybody. She was always going off topic, expected us to know everything there ever was in math and was rude in my opinion. You would have to have 100% on 10 assignemnts before your grade would go up. Also didn't allow calculators which for me stunk because sometimes I needed one on certain things.
can't stand her. awful professor. tests are BS and the fact that you can't use calculators for a CALCULUS class is ridiculous. 100% would never ever recommend.
This class was very useless. She went off on rants, barely taught us and then expected us to know everything about math for the exams, which were awful. Exams were multiple choice and always had a none of the above choice so you had no idea if you were every right. I never got anything below a B in a math class and in her class I got a C.
A little aloof, but very caring and intelligent. Willing to meet outside of class. Material was covered well, and you need to ask questions if you dont understand
Make room in your schedule for a better professor
Worst professor I have ever had! Do not take her class! She's super unorganized, and doesn't actually teach. She expects you to understand from reading the textbook, which makes things more confusing. Take a different professor you'll thank yourself!
