Totally hot!!! Very engaging and has a wonder outlook on the world. No B.S.!!! Very informative in real-life issues regarding poverty and homelessness. I found this class VERY BENIFICAL before entering the professional world.

I was reluctant in taking her course after hearing the bad comments.. but upon taking it (actually them, I'm in 316 and 361 with her).. well the comments aren't right.. She is totally receptive of students needs.. both classes have a lot of reading but if you keep up they are totally easy! she is very flexible with due dates in 361!

She teaches this course with Cullity. They are both so nice and helpful! There is a lot of reading to keep up with but they are really flexible and aware of students schedules being hectic. They made the research assignment so fun and easy!

The rumors are just plain false. She is a professor who is very passionate for kids and mental health. This is an outstanding course and recommend it if you are truly interested in learning something about society.

She was very helpful in giving feedback on fieldnotes and papers, willing to explain and share ideas for final paper. The class is very time consuming, but it is not hard.

Yes, it is time consuming but keep trying. Soc. 495 was hard for me to understand, but I got an "A-" because of my effort. If I can get an A, anyone can!

I found her to be very helpful in assisting myself and others in class. It showed that she cares about her students and their writing. The class was very time consuming, but if you put the time into it you can receive a good letter grade. I'm not sure why some people found her unhelpful or not nice, but oh well.

Do not listen to the negative comments about Professor Roche. Her class is so interesting and she is an amazing professor. I have learned so much in her class. Yes there is a lot of work but it's interesting and worth the challenge. If you are just looking for an easy class this is not the class for you.

Wow AWESOME teacher, very sweet. That being said HARD class, lots of work, more than any class I have taken here. But very interesting and if you have any history of mental illness or your family does TAKE IT. Its life changing the new prespective you get. This class is one you will walk away learning from.

Basically if you do the work, you get a good grade. It can be an easy A or if you don't like to do the work it could be the worst class ever. There's lots of work, but you learn a lot. She's very understanding and will help if you ask for the help.

I was worried about this class. I am a soc major, but not the best critical thinker. She was very helpful and compassionate. I met with her during office hours and she was extremely helpful. It was an online class and I thought she was very clear and to the point when it came to discussions and gave plenty of feedback.This class is for soc majors!

Prof Roche is a caring and compassionate person who will do everything she can to help you understand the material and do well in the class. If you are a decent person and have an open mind, this class will better your life. It isn't easy; it requires a lot of hard work and dedication. People shouldn't whine just bcuz they aren't willing to work.

Defintely a time consuming class but worth it in the end. I took 360 before this class and learned pretty much nothing and this class she actually taught us things that I can apply to other subjects than just sociology. Try and take it! I promise you will learn alot.

She is helpful in getting back to sutdents and wanting them do well, but that's where it ends. The amount of work in her class is crazy and the finals she gives are enough to make me want to...well you get the point. If you have a different option go for it.

Professor Roche is amazing. The way the class is designed makes the material extremely easy to understand. She walks you through all the papers step by step. Very helpful. Welcomed students to visit office hours or stay after. Taken tons of teachers at CSUSM and she's by far the best.

Very passionate about her work. Yes, there is a lot of material to cover and a lot of work, so do not expect to just get by. If you complete the assignment, usually get full credit. Always replies to emails and is willing to meet to help. I recommend if you do not have a problem doing a lot of work.

This class is hard but well worth it! A lot of work must be done in order to pass - there is a lot of reading, many assignments, and 7-hours/week at intern site due weekly. She gave me great feedback and was very encouraging on DBs. She really does want everyone to do well and is willing to help. Do the work, apply her feedback, and pass the class.

Professor Roche was such a sweet, understanding professor and I really loved the couple times I met with her during her office hours. She never responded back to my emails or questions rudely and always made sure she came off respectful and willing to teach as best as possible. Lots of writing every week and reading assignments!

Professor Roche was hard but fair. I needed some clarification on some assignments but she was very responsive and ready to help. A LOT of reading, and since the NFF is due on Monday you have one day to read it, answer questions about it. I suggest you write up your Notes from the field (NFF) early so you don't have to do that Monday night too.

I loved her! Yes, there was a lot of reading and writing, but I learned so much that I know I will use in my career. She was always so helpful and repsonded to emails quickly. Through her teaching, I could tell she really cared about the success of her students. She was always so encouraging, too. I definitely recommend!

Great professor, definitely take her if it's an option. No textbook. Only tests are midterm and final, which are long but it's online and she gives you 9 days to do it, even cancels class that week. Reading responses due every Sunday night. It's a pain to remember, but they're pretty easy and don't take very long to do. Always happy willing to help

Okay class not really worth while likes to ramble and not really much of a "teacher" she relies heavily on the online portion of her class. LOTS of reading and handful of videos to watch throughout the class. Only two tests a midterm and final. Only take this class if there is nothing else to take.

She does not have textbooks! Which is great for your finances. She looks out for her students. She has online all the paperwork and reading material you need for her class. She is an awesome professor. If you do the work, you will pass, it's not brain science. I highly recommend.

Professor Roche truly cares for all of her students. She gives feedback on every assignment, which really helps you to know your standing. The work load is manageable, but is really meaningful to the topics being covered. VERY passionate about what she teaches. I would definitely take one of her classes again.

You have to attend class if you want to pass. There is much information that you need to know for the papers and tests that you'll take given in classes. She does put lots of the class information and more online, which is nice.

She is a great professor. It was a qualitative research methods class, so understandably there was a lot of work, but she made it really interesting. She's a tough grader but if you pay attention to what she's looking for you will do well. She gives so many opportunities for improvement throughout the semester, you just have to do the work.

Great teacher, very hard classes though, be prepared to do a lot of work but it is resourceful and inspirational. Start your research paper early though and keep on top of all of the work, you basically write a 4 page paper every week but she gives you the proper resources to do so

Never thought a research class would be interesting til now. This is a college course, it shouldn't be easy. There is a lot of work, but its not busy work. It actually contributes to your overall understanding of qual research & will help you write your final paper! Professor is funny, authentic, and extremely caring. She also gives great feedback!

I took Professor Roche's online sociology 101 class and I had a blast! I learned a lot, and she was extremely flexible with her online students. She is VERY caring and even reaches out to students personally to make sure you're doing well. This class was fun, a lot of writing, and discussions with other students. Her video lectures are short too.

Professor Roche is literally the realest teacher you can get. Her content is clear but it's not going to be an easy A if you're lazy. Do the work and actually be a real person with her. She's very understanding and honest!!! She's flexible but you need to put in the effort if you want to pass.

This class was very enjoyable, as it pertained very well with the major and real life scenarios and experiences. It is a pretty in depth class, and with that being said, we were pretty open to talking about our own stories, which felt great. I was nervous to take my first online course this semester however professor Roche made it super easy and organized, plus all her lectures are really interesting.

Mary is a friendly professor. She will give a one-or-two-page question in every chapter, then you need to answer everything. Every week you'll read about 30-page textbook and a movie. The class is not hard, but you'll spend lots of time to get an A.

She is a exemplary example of what I want from a professor. Deeply knowledgeable, authentic and caring. Wants to see her students succeed. She will never quit on you, provides as much feedback on the paper as you can handle. This class is right in her wheelhouse personally and the passion is clear. Flexible within reason, and very fair.

Professor Roche is quite honestly the best. I had her spring semester of 2020, which is when classes switched to online and she was very helpful through it all. She cares about her students, and although qualitative methods is a hard class she WILL help you through it and make sure you pass. Wish I could take her again!

She responded to emails very quickly, gave helpful feedback, and she truly cares about her students success and personal well-being. would recommend, I signed up for another class with her in spring 2021.

Professor Roche is amazing, her lectures are interesting and easy. Grades are composed from quizzes, discussion forums and one paper which is easy as it's about interviewing someone. No finals or exams. Her quizzes are easy as they are not timed. The material is not difficult either. Not too much work and she's very kind. Offers extra credit too!

The class did have many assignments, but they were not difficult. The whole class leads to the final paper. Writing the paper was stressful, but she is super accommodating and offers support. Just make sure to keep up and complete everything on time.

This class was a lot more work than I expected, but she is an AMAZING professor! She's super accessible through email and she wants you to succeed! Make sure you stay on top of everything -- quizzes are due on Mondays, so doing the readings/lectures a few days prior will set you up for success. I learned so much from her!

I had a difficult time picking out a professor for SOC 495 and was skeptical about this professor but honestly she is a cool professor but the homework was a lot took lots of time to do. Although an internship is required for this class there is also an alternate assignment which is basically a research project of your choice. Also a poster too

The only critique I have is having to space out replies throughout the week rather than doing them all in one day but it's just so we actually engage with each other.I appreciated her challenging me as a psychology major and how much she widened my perspective in many ways.

Professor Roche did very well in teaching the problems of the welfare system. My one complaint about this course was reading everything before class, then going to class to be told what was learned. Which felt like a waste of time, the professor was good, but not sure about how the assignments are done.

Her lectures were easy to follow, and the websites/readings she assigns for the assignments are labeled and contribute a lot to the topics talked about for each module. She is passionate and considerate as she makes sure students have enough time to submit work, so she will be lenient on late assignments. Overall an easy course to follow.
