She was great. Lots of quizes related EXACTLY from the book. We fought her often about the discrepencies she said vs what was in the book, and she always said the book took precedence over the lectures. Hard tests too,k but overall good teacher & funny

First class I ever took at Mesa. Dreading taking it, and this woman made it the BEST! she is the most down to earth, fun, coolest lady at Mesa. If you can take her, you wont regret it. I love speaking now because of her class!

Quizzes are easier than her tests i think. shes fun, i loved that class. Look around, say some randomness on ur topic and clearly answer questions u pretty much get an A on ur speeches. turn in crap work on time so u can get a check + later when u revise.

Mary is incredibly sweet, understanding and makes you feel at ease. You spend most of the time in her class just talking about random stuff, which passes a lot of time away. Don't trip; do the speeches and read something-something and you'll get an A!

Take this class! This teacher makes class worth going to. My favorite class at Mesa so far. Makes teh learning environment friendly. I didn't want to take speech until the end, but she made me wish I had taken it 2 years ago. Grades easy, very helpful and understanding. A++ the final is a Potluck!

Mary is a great teacher. study for the quizes and the tests they are pretty hard. This was the best class I have ever taken, she really makes speech fun!

Actually Mary is very liberal and cracked jokes about getting high. But anyways, she makes you feel comfortable about giving speechs but she grades rather harshly. And the quizzes she gives you every week will kill you in the end...so keep up with them.

This class is a piece of cake. Do the speech the night before, practice it once and you'll be fine. The quizes are easy if you study the cd that comes with the book (I never read the book just looked at the CD and past every quiz) She is also very fun in class

Her class was easy. If I would have studied for the multiple choice exams more, I would have gotten an A. She grades your speeches easy. This course does require lots of reading in order to ace the weekly quizes, but it's not too hard.

Very, very kind teacher, always helpful and open to student comments. Read through the main points in the book each week for quizzes, entertain her with your speeches, make an effort and you'll get an A.

Mary was awesome. I dreaded taking speech and she made it relaxing and fun. Class environment is great. Study for the tests. Weekly quizzes arent to bad. Only 3 speeches. Make sure you turn in prep forms for speeches and any brainstorming you have. Its 25% of your grade and its easy not to turn that stuff in. She was great! Take this class

She was the GREATEST teacher!!! I was scared to death to take the required speech class and had previously dropped Terry Kohlenburgs class, it was so scary, don't take him! Mary Ross is SO sweet and only has positive things to say about everyone... We only had 3 speeches, and one was in a group!! Take her, you wont regret it!

This class is pretty easy. Just read through the chapter once and you'll get at least a B on the quizzes. I never did any studying aside from one hour before class and always get a good grade.

If you fear public speaking, she is the way to go. Very nice and often amusing, tries to put you at ease. I took her in the summer, the most dreaded class I had to take, and she made it much better than I expected.

Super easy class, the quizes can be studied for by simply skimming the chapters or reading the summaries. Most of the questions are common sense though. She's an entertaining teacher with a few screws loose, but overall makes you feel at ease. Giving speeches sucks no matter who the teacher is so you might as well have a fun one.

Nice teacher, but seems to play favorites at times. Puts you at ease in front of the class, and overall the class is a good one. Would recommend.

I LOVE MARY ROSS. She is so funny, witty, and charming. She is very helpful and very positive. She wants you to do well. Be prepared for your 3 speeches. Read your assignments. Quiz every class. 3 exams. She makes you feel at ease. Take her class if you have to take a speech class!!

Mary is a great teacher. She can be unclear with assignments sometimes but she really cares about making sure we are learning the subject matter and is very encouraging. She offers tons of extra credit to ensure a passing grade.

Awesome teacher! was very nice and explained everything in order to get the speeches done. Helps overcome the fear of giving a speech. Gives plenty of extra credit, however you won't be needing it to get an A! Quizzes are not hard, i hardly ever read the chapters and most questions are common sense. TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF SPEECH CLASS

Awesome teacher! I hated the thought of public speaking before this class. She requires you to read the book - quizzes every week. Test are fair but sometimes tricky. Only 3 speeches: two 5-minute, one 8-minute. She is the nicest professor I've had to date! Like others have said, take Mary if you're afraid of public speaking! Possible Easy "A!"

I also took Mary in the Spring 2008. I attended almost every class and never once heard her embarass or put anyone down. She gave some of the worst speakers B/B+ when they probably deserved a D! Her tests and quizzes were difficult if you didn't read the text book -- but if you did...NO PROBLEM = EASY A!!

Prof. Ross is awesome! She is full of positive energy and bright smiles. She keeps class alive and not bored. There's a lot of quizzes and one-page assignments but they are not difficult. You just have to read the textbook very throughly. She is generous on grade. It was just pleasant and joyful to have a teacher like her.

Awesome teacher! The best I've ever had! I took her class in the summer and I was sad to leave. She is one of the best teachers I've ever had. The test are a bit difficult but if you read the book you'll be fine. She gives many worksheets and grades very easy. I STRONGLY reccomend taking her class.

Loved the class. Tests did suck though... only because they are worded... to confuse... but if you do your speeches well, you will pass the class. Just remember to be calm, and have fun!!! The teacher is great, fun class!!! Would def take her again!!!

Loved this teacher! She has a lot of energy and enthusiasm which keeps you interested. The tests and quizzes were challenging, but if you read the chapters assigned you will do well.

Fabulous! I loved this class! She is a great teacher and lets you redo assignments if they are not perfect. Tests are from the book and are a bit hard but the class is completely worth it. I would do it over again!

This woman is amazing...she's very outgoing and makes you feel much more comfortable about speaking. It honestly doesn't bother me too much anymore. There's a lot of worksheets not worth very many points, but blow too many of them off and you'll screw up your grade! I highly recommend her.

This professor ROCKS! She makes class seem more like a family, which helps you to feel more comfortable when you're giving a speech. Quizes once a week, but the info is all from the chapter. She takes late assignments. Makes some mistakes on grading but always happy to correct the problem. She is an awesome hippie teacher!

The nicest teacher I had. I recommend you take her 5pm two session course. The book is necessary to get As in the quizes and tests but Bs are possible by skimming it. Almost all the speeches presented improved. Enroll early. Getting an A is not difficult, just do the work. She is not strict, just talk to her. Overall fantastic teacher.

She is great and very entertaining. dont think you can get over on her cuz of her age. she's sharp as a tack and is very animated.the class is great prep for 160. youll love her! Had a career in entetainment and is very passionate about communication. i have her cell number and we've gone out to eat...enough said!

Ms. Ross is so sweet and encouraging. Not a mean bone in her body. I actually was dropped but that was my fault, so I'm taking her in the fall.

Mrs. Ross is a great teacher. She's easy to listen to and keeps your attention. Quizzes weekly based on the book, not real difficult. Some homework, she accepts lates, make-up tests, and generously grades speeches. Overall a good class.

The EASIEST prof at Mesa. She should teach Kindergarten. She is so laid back, forgiving, easy going. No set due dates on anything really. Will accept late work all semester. Gives positive remarks on every persons speech. I literally NEVER used the book. There are small quizzes but you can just use common sense. Super nice. Easy A.

She isn't very organized, and it can get annoying but she is such an easy grader. Quizzes and tests are pretty much just common sense. Nothing special here, just an easy teacher to take to knockout a required class.

She is not an easy A! You have to read the chapters in the book and hardly anyone gets A's on her exams. If you are in for reading your book and understanding technical speech terms this class is for you. You need to seriously be on top of your stuff too. It's an easy A, if you put effort in the class. Also you have a quiz every week.

A lot of us dislike speech class for whatever reason, myself included. But as for Ms. Ross herself, she's a kind, attentive, lively person. She seriously goes out of her way for students. Not difficult. She's lenient, but she does have limits. Just don't be lazy and try to take advantage of her niceness, and you'll have fun and get a good grade!

Mary is a super nice lady but she is all over the place... she loses papers a lot, is not very organized & always flustered but she's a pretty easy grader especially if you offer to give your speech first! Show up to class & read the chapters & the quizzes are a piece of cake! This class was really great & not as nerve-wracking as I'd expected!

Great teacher. You'd have to be some degree of stupid and lazy to not pass this class. I also got a lot out of her class. I am now way more comfortable speaking in front of an audience. She makes you feel welcome and is accepting. She is older but so so full of life. Easy to reach on email and gives good feedback. Ms Ross you ROCK !

Great professor! She definitely wants everyone to succeed and provides great feedback if you ask for it. She is lenient with assignment due dates but you must turn everything in before the course is complete. There's a quiz every week (truefalse) and you must study for multiple choice tests. Great learning experience!

An enjoyable and fun class. Ms Ross makes it interesting and takes the fear out of public speaking. Good lecturer. Quizzes and tests REQUIRE intensive book reading. Lots of homework, worksheets, 3 tests, plenty of quizzes and 3 in class speeches. A required class, she makes it pretty painless to pass

Honestly, Mary is such a fun person. Shes fun to talk to and super funny. Her lectures are easy to listen to. She gives good feedback when it comes to your speeches. Not a hard grader either. Lots of paperwork and outlines to do. Can turn in late work for full credit. Quizzes every week. Her tests are super hard though.. so study for those.

Prof. Ross' class is easy. Weekly quizzes based on the book, 3 speeches, and homework assignments throughout the semester. 3 or 4 exams and her class is "bottom heavy" with a lot of assignments due towards the end. Grades on a curve and understands that public speaking is intimidating for some. Visual aids & eye-contact needed for an A on speeches.

Great professor, and great class. If you want to pass you have to read the chapters and study for the quizzes and exams. She makes it easy to overcome your fear of public speaking and she is so funny, you'll love her.

I took Mary for the intersession semester and I absolutely loved her! I had a real fear of public speaking before this class, and she made it so easy and enjoyable. I would honestly tell anyone to take her class, and I would definitely take it again! She is a real gem, and I cannot say enough good things about her!

Although the professor can be a little unorganized, however if you keep up on your own work, it won't be a real problem. This class has been real surprising and enjoyable experience for me as I was able to become more comfortable speaking in front of an audience, and the professor along with the tight-knit unit of a class help boost the experience.

She is a delight! I have tried to take this class before but was intimidated by performance critical professors. Ross makes speech giving just like talking to friends. It is seriously the chillest environment. I believe by far that this is the worst class to take by nature but Professor Ross makes it low-stress, fun, and enjoyable. Loooooooove her!

This was my first year in college and Professor Ross was by far my favorite teacher ever lol. Since it was online it was different, however, the speeches were actually fun & her feedback was always amazing/helpful! the only thing id say is if you have to get in contact about an assignment just push on it!

Professor Ross is such a sweet woman! She has been struggling with technology since the transition to online classes due to COVID, but you just have to bear with her. She's extremely flexible with due dates and often even extends quiz times if people ask her to. The class is just 3 speeches and some occasional assignments and quizzes.

Very fun teacher who guiently wants to get to know us. She tells stories and makes class interesting. All opinions are welcome in her class. She is very lenient on deadlines and speech dates and is a easy grader if you follow expectations. No complaints.

Good: Ms. Ross is sweet, nonjudgmental, and warm, which is great for public speaking. Tearful goodbyes during the last class. Bad: The class can feel disorganized... due dates can seem random, expectations can be unclear. Be proactive. Check canvas EVERY DAY. Show up to class. Quizzes/Exams are open-book, they are impossible w/out the text.

She is a kind woman. She can have a lot of seemingly random assignments but they all fall into play eventually. A cat lover which is a must haha. Her class is rather easy and is very kind. She is fun to have a conversation with. She is also very understanding/ lenient if you missed some assignments. Easy class and good environment.
