Tests are all written and subjective upon what she thinks. She is very picky on free response questions.
She lectures throughout the class, and uses a powerpoint. The tests are all free response, but are literally 5 or 6 questions. She gives a study guide that gives the questions and terms on the test.
I don't know how she has such a poor rating- she is one of the easiest professors at Dayton. She can be a little awkward at times, but she knows her stuff. Lecture class with only a few tests (which she gives good study guides for) and one paper (that we discussed in class). Just write a lot on her tests and you'll do well. Take her if you can!!!
Her class is just 50 minutes of boring lectures. Also her tests consist of 7 questions that she grades unreasonably hard. You need to know every tiny detail about the topic or she'll take points off. Avoid if possible.
Dr Sanderson is not that much hard you will have 2 midterms exams, essay Paper about a book and the Final. tests are not bad, you will find essay questions and some multiple choice about some terms that she included them in the study guide. Power points are worthless. If you take good notes you will be fine
really nice person, helpful outside class, but when it comes to grading shes a hard grader. The book is not helpful. Tests are essays in class and multiple choice questions based on 30 definitions that you have to figure out yourself through the lectures. If your not a good note taker then dont bother taking this class. I don't recommend her.
She has had a couple pop quizzes over "required readings" but if you go to every class and just write down what she writes on the board you will do great in the class and we usually talked about the pop quizzes before anyways. The only problem is her handwriting is illegible so LISTEN!!!
I did not enjoy this class whatsoever. I have never been good at history, but Professor Sanderson did not seem to want to change that. I dreaded going to every class. She's a very tough grader too. Would not recommend her at all.
Sanderson is a strange lady. On top of that, she's not even a great teacher, and her class is really hard. She grades papers, essay questions, and projects very hard and the test questions are on minute details as opposed to the important stuff. There are way too many other West in the World teachers at UD. Don't settle for Sanderson.
This class was unbelievably boring. You would want to skip, but she is inconsistent with taking attendance. For tests, they were part multiple choice and then two written response (which were expected to be extensively detailed). Written response probable questions were given ahead of time, which was helpful. I would suggest Washington instead.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Lady has no idea how to take notes on board. She writes like a chicken with her head cut off, absolutely sporadic. If you like taking 5 pages of note then take her. If not, then stay away. Oh ya she grades essays ridiculously hard. Bottom line, DONT TAKE HER!
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. She knows her stuff but has no idea how to teach. She always writes on the board with the worst handwriting, very random when it comes to notes. She grades the essays extremely hard. She is never helpful because she doesn't care what your name is. Don't ever take her!
She's an interesting person. If you take notes you will do fine on her tests. She is a very strict grader on her essays! She does power points now which helps with everyone complaining about her handwriting. I think she's funny. Just make sure you get all the notes!
If you take notes, you'll get a good grade. Sanderson is hilarious if you appreciate deadpan humor. I never had a problem with her class whatsoever, but overall she's expects you to be a college student and work for your degree (what a crazy thought).
This was by far the worst class of freshman year. Your class grade depends on how well she likes your essays. There are two tests and two essays. Lectures are boring and she is very unclear come test time. Not recommended from my experience.
Lots of info in class, most readings aren't necessary and you won't really need notes from them if you take good class notes. Only two papers (which weren't TOO bad) and 3 tests (including final). If you're prepared for class discussions they aren't a problem. Overall, not too much work outside of class but in class be ready to write like crazy.
She is a VERY tough grader on the writing portion of the tests. She seemed to grade easier on the papers but an A in writing didn't seem to likely to happen. She curved the class ALOT at the end though, so it ended up not mattering too much.
Class was extremely boring and the notes we took were hard to relate to the tests. The multiple choice on the tests were hard. She gave us the essay prompts for the test prior to the test but she still was an extremely tough grader on them. The reading is extremely boring and the class discussions are irrelevant to test material. I
So boring
Dr Sanderson is a genuinely nice person but a tough teacher. Gives confusing assignments and isn't clear with grading criteria. Not an easy A especially if you're not a history major and are focusing on other classes more.
Class is a start to finish lecture. It's super boring. She's a tough grader on essays. Wasn't a fan
Worst teacher I have ever had
Her lectures are super long and super boring but she packs them with a lot of information so don't skip class and try not to fall asleep. She has a few tests and they are graded pretty hard. Also, she is a tough grader on papers. But, she will look over them for you which is nice
By far the hardest course I have ever taken and this is a mandatory course at the University. Tests are graded hard and essays are graded even harder. She expects a lot and coming from a non-history major, like most of the class, the level of difficulty the class is, is just a pain. I do not recommend her as a teacher at all. Stay away if possible
Lectures were incredibly boring. If she tells you to read something that isn't out of the "Worlds Together" book, you'll probably write something over it later. Provides review guides for tests (take notes if she reviews an essay). Multiple choice on tests is easy, but she grades the essays very strictly and it's unclear what it takes to get an A.
To succeed in this class you need to take all the notes she gives, I recommend typing notes, and working on the study guides ahead of time. Her lectures are ridiculously boring. If you miss class, get notes from someone you trust.
I loved this course. She is funny, clear, and a relatively nice person.
Her lectures can be interesting and she definitely knows her stuff. However she is a very tough grader and tests are not easy. Each test in an in class essay and she doesn't give feedback so you never know how to improve. She gets annoyed when people don't participate and will give pop quizzes. There is a lot of reading assigned too.
She likes to talk about death. I'll get that right off the bat. However, her lectures are interesting, if you give them a chance. But beware: her tests are deceptively easy. Usually 15-20 MC and an essay, she grades tough. And the final group project... It will make or break your semester. Be ready for lots of work. Overall, a good prof, but hard.
She's hard to understand at times because she often speaks too quickly. She is an absolutely horrible grade in terms of toughness. I have a D as of right now and I've been studying, attending class, and doing all assignments. Her lectures are very informative, she just grades very toughly.
Her lectures were very boring but make sure to take good notes because the tests are all about detailed essays
Yep, that's right, there's no textbook, which means the lectures are mandatory if you want to have a single clue of what's going on. BUT, if you listen & take notes (I recommend laptop notes), the tests are easy to pass. She gives you the essays ahead of time and lets you use a notecard cheat sheet. Outside readings & assignments are also easy.
Expect homework. Teaches only through lectures, thats it.
Sanderson is hilarious. Her lectures are very clear but you need to take as many notes as you possibly can. We had 2 tests (both 15 MC questions and an essay), the final, and two 3-4 page papers. If you're not a strong writer you might be in trouble. 1% point off for absences but going to class and taking notes is key.
She's a nice woman and has a weird sense of humor. She's a very tough grader, but she can tell if you're working hard and will reward you. Tests are basically essays, but she lets you use a notecard with info. Writes a solid paragraph of feedback on what she liked and what she didn't. Lectures are boring but very informative and helpful for essays
You don't have a textbook so whatever is on the Powerpoints and in her lectures, are what's on the tests. She also lets you use a notecard on the tests and finals so they are not hard to pass.
She is a nice lady and the class overall isn't too bad. However, if you take Sanderson, it is HIGHLY recommended to read the material carefully. All her tests are essays so if you don't have a good sense of the material you will fail. She is a tough essay grader so really plan out your essays and have good evidence.
All her tests are essays test with 15 multiple choice questions. Her lectures are pretty straight forward. She takes attendance and every few days she has discussions. She also gives 2% extra credit throughout the semester.
Lectures almost every class, but she really knows the material she is talking about. After each reading there is a open-book/note quiz and a graded discussion. She is very quirky but she really wants you to learn something. Each test consists of an in-class essay and multiple choice questions.
Reading outside of class. Get a general understanding of the reading, you'll be fine. Tough essay grader. Ask her for what she wants in the essays. 2 midterms & a final & 2 papers. 15 mult choice and essay for midterms. 15 mult choice and 2 essays. Follow study guide and it's simple. She repeats everything she says during lecture at least twice.
The class itself was so easy very high school like and lecture heavy, but she is the hardest essay grader I know- and there are 3/4 essays that make up a decent amount of your grade.
Not a lot of reading just lots of lecture. Take notes in class! Papers are what make or break you, MC on test aren't worth much at all focus on the paper part. I got an A- doing the most i could possibly do. I wouldn't recommend
The class consists of lectures that are not helpful when it comes to tests. The tests are usually an essay with definitions but she grades the essays very harsh and does not set clear guidelines for what is expected out of these essays. History 103 should be an easy class but she made it unnecessarily difficult
She is a nice person answers all emails that day. Go to office hours will clarify her expectations and I enjoyed her dialogues with me. Make sure 5 paragraphs on essays intro body conclusion. Be very through and elaborate should get fair B+ or higher. Gives notecard for exam. Speak up 5% grade. Go through slides to get most points on essays.
Definitely a hard professor. She had PowerPoint presentations but they were minimal at best. Hard to take notes because all she does is tell stories; amusing, but not helpful to learning the material.
Professor Sanderson is quirky and gives good lectures. She knows what she is talking about and does a good time getting the information across. She has a little bit of reading but nothing that cannot be done. Not much homework other than the occasional reading.
The class is completely made up of lectures. To pass the tests you will need to take good notes. The tests compose of 15 multiple choice and an essay. Be very, very specific on the essay she is a very, very hard grader. You will also have a couple of papers and reading quizzes, again be very very specific on them
Her class is semi difficult but so is basically every other intro to history class so it's not like its that much different. Multiple choice on her quizzes are easy and as long as you go to her office hours for both the in class essays and take home essays she will practically give you your thesis and tell you what she wants you'll be fine.
Take this class. She is the best history teacher and is extremely clear of her expectations. She is the funniest teacher I have ever had. She is for sure a hard grader, especially on essays. She is always willing to help and there will never be a dull day with her.
Great lectures and really interesting for anyone that likes history. Very unnecessarily tough grader. If you are looking for an A in this class... I will keep you in my prayers.
Interesting class for anyone who enjoys history, but incredibly hard grader for papers. If you skip the class you will not pass and very lecture heavy as well as reading. Not an easy A.
This class makes you work for that coveted A so many desire. Dr. Sanderson lectures every class and make sure you write down very detailed notes because for every essay she wants plenty of detail and backup. Make sure you read the readings as there will be reading quizzes and discussion. Liked the class. Professor ok, just not much interaction.
Humorous in class. But A lot of readings and homework. A little harsh for papers. But willing to help when you have questions.
Class is basically story time and you have maybe 3 papers for the semester and 3 exams which she gives you a study guide that fits the exams perfectly. Take lectures notes and try not to miss. Prof Sanderson is really nice and is always willing to help you out. Papers are fairly easy and she gives lots of feedback.
There is reading homework every day. She gave study guides that were helpful with the tests, but the tests were mostly graded by an essay written in class. She was a hard grader on the essays when she didn't even give that clear of instructions for it. I would recommend taking a different professor.
Lots of homework and a lecture heavy prof. After your first time with an unexcused absence, you get 1% off your final grade every other time you miss. Also is a tough essay grader but the one way to get a better grade is to meet with her and talk about the paper/write an outline. Probably wouldn't take it again with her, there's better professors
Most of the time her classes aren't bad because there are only reading quizzes if we are doing a class discussion and usually those reading quizzes are group or open note/reading. These reading quizzes are only 5% of your grade though. Verbal participation is 10% of your grade. Her tests are basically essays, which she grades very harshly.
This is LGBTQ history & she just started teaching it this semester & while the topic is interesting she is an extremely tough grader. I had her for west & world had I recognized the professors name I never would have taken her again. There are so many papers for this course & while she offers extra credit she expects a 2 pg paper for only 5 points
Pulls percentage points out of thin air for the test and research essays that dictate 90% of your grade. Think you wrote the best paper of your life? Prepare to get a 90 with zero explanation as to why points were taken off. And thats if you work really hard at her class, chances are youll be like all 4 people surrounding my desk and get a C
I love her as a person, she's hilarious and quirky. The actual class sucks though. You have to read every night, there are quizzes almost every day. Her tests are always hard and she's a really harsh grader, especially on the writing portions.
Sanderson is a very caring person. She was always willing to help and she was good at lecturing. She made it not boring. Work hard, go to Office hours and you will be fine! She is a hard essay grader though so make sure you spend a lot of time preparing for that.
Easy class but kind of boring. It is history though so not much going on. Dr. Sanderson is very nice and quite forgiving when I would show up late. Few essays and lots of reading. Overall not to bad.
Love her for upper level history! LGBTQ+ history was very informative and manageable, I highly recommend for COVID impacted semesters. Readings are not too bad and she does group work to help you understand. She's so understanding and will give a mental health day every once in a while. There's great feedback on papers and Isidore page is great.
Although extremely boring it's a pretty easy class. There's four tests (essays) that she grades relatively hard on how many facts you jam into them. She relies a lot on group work: every, single, class, which isn't a great time when only you (or one other person if lucky) actually does the assigned reading it's over.
Your grade is group work and the 3 essay tests. On the essays she is a very hard grader. I recommend meeting with her for office hours but still it is very hard to get an A on tests. Taking good notes will really help.
Very boring with lectures but the class was easy if you read the text book and made sure your papers had a clear flow to them with historically accurate information.
Professor Sanderson is really sweet, but an extremely harsh grader on test essays. The content was pretty easy to understand, but every single class is pretty much the same, lecture the first half, group work the second half. Make sure to take notes and have good essay writing skills!
She's very nice but has ridiculous expectations for her class. She assigns an excessive amount of reading. Your grade is basically 3 exams which are essays and the final. She has unrealistic expectations for "A" papers and does not have a sliding scale for grading. I would not recommend taking her if you want a good grade.
Sanderson is a great professor who cares about her students but is very lecture heavy and takes attendance every class. Lots of pop quizzes on readings but if you did the reading it is very easy and they are all open book/notebook.
LGBTQ History was a really interesting class, and the least painful way to knock out a few of your CAP requirements IMO. Assignments were not hard at all, but she is a hard grader on the midterm and final (which are papers) + essays. Take this if you can, but try to take it with your friends, which made the class so much easier. Good luck!
the class is mainly lectures that are fairly boring. there were some smaller assignments but it was mostly tests. Her tests were 15 confusing mc questions and an essay that she graded roughly. If you really study you'll do okay
i would say she is pretty easy because i never read or did any homework, but the tests were so hard and she graded RIDICULOUSLY hard. u are graded on 3 essays and u will never get 100 on them. if u want a good grade, dont take sanderson. if u dont care abt ur grade and just want to cruise by, shes fine. i would not suggest her
she is awful. if u want a good grade do not take her, but if u want an easy class then it is fine.u will not get an A or even a high B unless you are perfect. she is the worst grader, i get better grades in my honors English class than on her essays. there is like no homework and you are only graded on 3 essays and u will not do well on them. avoid
Professor Sanderson is the worse prof I have had at UD. You are graded on tests and essay and she is an insanely hard grader. Her expectations are completely ridiculous for a CAP course. I went to office hours many times and put hours into my essay and didn't receive above an 80%. I have nearly straight A's and her class really brought my GPA down.
Fell asleep literally almost every class goodluck
Professor Sanderson will spend most class periods going over powerpoints with occasional group activities over readings from the textbook. 2 essays for the 2 books required to read over the semester which weren't very difficult. The essays on her tests are graded heavily, so I recommend talking to her about an outline. Taking notes is key.
Professor Sanderson had unclear and unguided grading measures, and her paper corrections were one word phrases that gave little insight into what she expected. Toughest grader I have ever had. No one I know did well in the class. I do not recommend taking her, and I recommend a serious evaluation from the University regarding this Professor.
Tough grader, tests consist of an essay which makes up 80% of the grade, and around 10 multiple-choice questions. The class consists of vague PowerPoints which she lectures off of. She is very intelligent and knows the material well, moves relatively quickly in class but is willing to stop for questions. Will read two books alongside the textbook.
one of the better HST 103 profs. Gives you essay prompts for tests so as long as you prepare before you'll be fine. Some in class group work but very easy, quiz weekly but not hard. Biggest advice is take good notes during lecture, this will save you when studying for multiple choice questions and details on essays on exams.
Professor Sanderson is the worst professor and the worst grader ever. There are a ton of essays and if you do not read her mind and give the most description possible you will fail. She gave terrible feedback on the papers and was not even grading for the material learned in class. She caused me a lot of anxiety. Idk how she hasn't been fired.
If you like history, I would take this class but in the beginning, it's pretty boring. Most of the class is lectures, but occasionally there will be group time. Make sure to really study for the tests. She provides notecards for the tests though! As long as you pay attention in class and occasionally read the homework, you will succeed.
Stay away from Prof.Sanderson, class is an 50 minutes straight of her lecturing the class of pointless material. she is very unclear about what she expect from essays and gives little to no feedback. If you make a mistake when citing a source she will accuse you of plagiarizing. she is overall not a great professor
Prepare for multiple midterms and to be bored out of your mind for 50 minutes 3 days a week. Never stops lecturing unless it is for an assignment that will never be graded. When taking said midterms, you have to read her mind and say exactly what she was thinking. If you are good at history, you will not get an A in this class. Don't recommend.
She is very lecture heavy + assigns readings for every class, which you will have to discuss in small groups + turn in notes on. Very kind + understanding, but the biggest issue I had was that her feedback on essays was vague + point deductions seem arbitrary. Participation is also only 5% of your final grade, despite being heavily emphasized.
Just no save yourself
absolutely gives no homework. The exams are the only real struggle. They mostly consist of essays and some ID terms. The grading is pretty difficult. This class is lecture heavy so make sure you don't fall asleep because she will mark you absent. Best thing about the class was that she gives you a note card for exams as your "cheat sheet".
I'm related to her and she's thrown things at my head that nearly seriously hurt me. She's unstable, at least towards people with substance abuse issues(me) and I used to be able to hear the rage in her voice when she was muttering to herself while grading papers. If you read this, hey mare! Remember me? Mrs. George sanderson
