She might be hard but she is really understanding and helpful. I wouldn't want another anatomy professor - well unless there was one that just handed out A's. She is probably the best prof. I have had here.
She just throws driagrams up on the board and writes random words all over them and then says that there are no diagrams on the tests

She gives a lot of notes...take them, study them, study them again and you will do fine
wicked hot!
lots of notes and material covered, but it is presented in a way that is easy to understand.
Gives alot of notes in each class but pretty much goes by the book. Gives a study guide for every exam and drops the lowest score. Nice lady who just wants you to learn.
Hardiest teacher i think i will ever encounter. The exams are so specific. Talks a mile a minute and goes through 5 chapters a class. Have Fun!
This class is soo hard. She goes in so much detail, and is hard to keep up with. But usually she teaches right out of the book
tests are very hard.
If a teacher can't put a proper sentance together, she shouldn't be teaching. Feels like she reads the chapter right before class, then explains it in great detail, confusing everyone, and then tests students on specific details of other information. run
Her classes are very intensive. She expects a lot. Her method of lecture is a little boring at times and the tests cover lots of material. However she is more than willing to give extra help to anyone who wants it. Be prepared for a lot of reading.
crams a lotta stuff in one test & is extremely specific as to what she test you on...she sucks. i cant wait to get out of her class! ps u will be napping in her lectures
Very clear on what she expects of you, but the tests are so specific and difficult. Try to wake up for the 8 AM classes or you'll be lost.
She knows her stuff like no one else, and loves teaching it. Very nice and willing to do all she can to help students. One of my favorite professors thus far.
Her class covers alot of material, but her tests aren't ridiculously hard as long as you put some time in to study. Her lectures are almost word for word of out the chapter outlines which can be found on the website. Bring these to class and just add any extra info. Study these and you're all set!
Potts-Santone is crazy. I was very interested in biology before her class. Now, I'm not interested in taking another class with her. If you don't go to lecture, you WILL have a hard time with tests, since the tests use lots of in-class, VERY specific, references. She is boring and uninteresting.
Her explanations are a little unclear and she covers a lot of material in a short time. I took the quizzes on the cd that came with the book and that helped me prepare for tests.
haaarrrrddd
Past raters are likely people that didn't do well in this class. She is not interesting, but bc the material isn't interesting.Just keep up with the reading, take the quizzes at the end of each chapter and you get an A.Those that struggle don't deserve to be in college and I'm embarrassed for them.
It was a diffucult class. Bio 1 was alot easier. In Bio 2 she read straight from the book. If you know all the study guide it isnt good enough. You have to be able to understand her questions and if you can you will be fine.
Very hard class, but she is a good teacher, Any Bio class will have a lot of material. She is strict but will help you to understand.
nice woman, knows a lot of information and wants you to know it too. tests are moderately difficult because they require thinking (like college tests should). study using the chapter quizzes, online quizzes from the book, and her quizzes and you'll do fine. keep up with the reading and spend youre extra time reviewing and you'll do fine.
I reccommend reading the material a few times. If you do that, you'll get an A.
she's kind of annoying, all she does is go with the book and uses her own terms for certain things. Your better off reading the text a few times than going to the class. Just make sure you know when online quizzes are.
Good teacher, she talks about a lot at once, but she'll draw a lot on the overhead so that it makes sense. Talks too fast, but she can go to class and she'll teach, don't always have to teach yourself before class, and thats good. :)
great
She is a very nice woman who I enjoyed learning from. She loves teaching and wants you to understand the material. She has a reputation for being very hard but that is because you actually have to keep up with the reading and review in order to do well. Overall she is a great professor.
okay teacher...spend the time reading the material beforehand and you'll do fine.
A Professional Professor. respectful and knows her stuff. Shes ready to answer any question...and shows that shes concerned about her students. Willing to sacrifice alot to make things easier. Bonds well w/ others. Slight problem is that she sounds like a book.very interesting but she always teaches morning classes, so u cant help but sleep. +Sweet
Very easy to understand. Can talk a bit too quickly, but everything she talks about in lecture is in the book unless she specifies otherwise. Great professor, just look over your lecture notes, read the book, and you'll do great on the tests!
Talks very fast in lecture and can get a little boring, but she is very helpful at office hours and makes herself very available.
I had her for Bio 1 and 2. Bio 1 was fine, lots of reading and studying but it was relatively easy to do well. Bio 2 is a different story. There is so much information that is really unneccesary, considering half the class are Pharmacy majors and don't need to learn about starfish. She is very helpful and wants students to do well. Lab= death.
This was my 2nd semester in her class, and this time it was much worse. the tests were too difficult, she spoke too quickly and half the test came from the book, not the notes in class. if she slowed down, the class would be boring, but do-able.
She is a great teacher and explains everything u will need to know. u def need to read the book for the exams because either you wont go to class and wont have the notes or the notes you took you wont understand. Lab is an easy A, but the quizes and tests are not. The tests are pretty hard but if you study for them you should be able to get a B.
Her enthusiasm is contagious.
She talks wayyyyy too fast. I got the same grade on the first test that i did on the second but I didn't go to any of the classes for the second one. The class is very BORING, not to mention it's at 8 am She can be rude to students at times.
Good teacher, yet a very difficult class. She talks very fast, and the questions on the exams can be tricky because you really need to throughly understand the material. She can be a bit hard to communicate with at times, but overall is a nice woman that you can tell really knows what she is teaching.
The class is fast paced - she gives a lot of notes. It's really hard to get an A but not that hard to get a B+ - one of those type of classes. She can seem unapproachable, but if you seem interested in one of her topics, she will chat with you and help you out.
She talks way too fast that I stopped taking notes after awhile because my hand kept cramping up and I wasn't comprehending anything she was saying. I got the same grade on all 3 tests and stopped going to class after the first one. You absolutely need the book..many test questions are from the book, and most questions are on the little details.
Class is a waste. Just use the textbook, study it like crazy, and use the book website. All you need is the book to do well, but it's still a hard class. You definitely need to put time into it and actually read and study on a regular basis.
I thought she had a kind of annoying personality and she talked wicked fast. Other than that however, she explained everything very clearly, and the class was so fast paced that you didn't have a chance to get too bored if you were at all interested in biology. Tests/quizzes were very wordy but all multiple choice. Pretty good,Ide take her again.
Wants students to learn. Fair grader- all tests and quizzes are multiple choice. Although attendance is not mandatory, she will occasionally give bonus points for going to class
The easiest way to learn in this class is to outline the text, memorize terms, and take the quizzes provided by the text's website. Don't bother showing up for class except to get answers to online quizzes. Also, don't blow off the quizzes or the first test--you may find yourself in trouble later on. An easy B but a hard A.
bio 2 is nothing like bio 1. labs much harder. reading textbook is helpful. moderately hard class...but lowest test score and quiz is dropped. class averages around 73.
hard but not impossible ... second semester (Bio 2) much easier if you like anatomy, even though you will probably never need to remember it if you are a pharmacy major.
she is a nice person, but she likes to hear herself talk. she genuinely cares about you passing though so if you go to the lectures, take notes, and study in advance you'll be fine. if you don't go to class and only study the night before the test don't expect to get higher than a C. nice woman though and she is fair.
must go to class AND read the book. When she finishes a chapter in class, start studying it. People who don't do well in her class don't study correctly and leave it to last minute. I started studying so early for tests and got A's.Shes not impossible but tough.Listening to her gets tedious
Overall a great professor. She seems like she would not be helpful but, if you go and talk to her she is a sweet, very helpful woman. The tests are difficult but an A is possible with moderate studying. DO NOT leave studying for the night before!
WWould not recommend if not required. Material is interesting but there is ALOT of it. Exam questions are not straight forward. Slightly intimidating professor but nice in person. Attendance in lecture is not mandatory but you will not do well if do not go. Class averages were in low 70s, hard class but not impossible.
a lot of material in a short time- made exams somewhat difficult. you pretty much have to know your stuff. not sure about clarity- fell asleep half the time in lectures and only stayed awake to take notes =T good thing she puts the ppts online.
Anal about cheating, seems very crabby and ****y, but is easy to do well in her class. show up to lecture if you feel like it, she only takes attendance when most people don't show up and it's not worth much. read the textbook well because she asks very specific questions.
Definitely a lot of material in a short time. Attendance isn't mandatory especially if you're just gonna sleep in class--you get notes some other way. Tests are very specific but not impossible. Reading the book and studying are musts. She's overall fair, it's just SO much material, overwhelming too. Doing well in lab should help boost your grade
Seems like a nice woman; pretty attractive too :)
not a very nice teacher. actually was my least liked teacher freshman year. tests were very difficult. make sure to go to class and pay attention AND read the book.
i really really really dont like this class. There is a lot of material and questions on tests are often impossibly specific. If you have a strong background in Bio, you'll be ok.
attendance is not mandatory. her test is really hard and you might wanna change your professor. she ruined my freshman year
My least favorite class for this year. She is a nice person, but her exams are extremely hard, especially for bio 2. Memorize(I mean literally from a to z.) the book will help you out(if you can of course. A LOT of material in a SHORT period of time. For me, I've read the book 3 times and still couldn't do well.
test are so hard...just give up guys!!
tricky tests. annoying voice. if youve taken AP bio, you can cake through the course
love the class, and good teacher. Can be friendly if you give her respect but I've heard she can be not so helpful if your rude.
She's not very nice, but she's helpful and clear. As long as you pay attention, you will get an A
Gen Bio 1 &2 were my hardest classes. Hard/ very tricky tests. Unfriendly. Thinks everyone should care about bio..but we don't.
I struggled bigggg time last semester at the beginning. She's really nice once you go see her, and show her you care about your grades. I did horrible on the first two exams and still passed with a B. Go to class to get your attendance points (they help!). And study hardddddd because her tests cover everythingggg. She's tough, but ey work with her!
STUDY HARD, READ THE BOOK, GET FRIENDS IN CLASS, LAB DEF HELPS!! Second semester practicals are a pain but could def help your grade. She's a pretty nice person it's just that she gives WAYYY too much information. Class was pointless to me but useful to others. Either read the book word for word or go to class to do well.
She is a good teacher who wants you to do good. The class is hard and she might come off as mean, You just need to put the time into it. You have to study, my advise is to study right from the class powerpoints and notes, and at the end read throught he book for any extra information, or to get a better understanding of the material.
A great teacher, very enthusiastic and easy to understand. Make sure you go to class, take detailed notes, read the textbook, study the labs and you should be fine. Pretty easy A and really enjoyable! Only negative was the 8am shocker
pretty good teacher even though lectures are extremely boring. be prepared for a rough semester if you have her at 8am, not the most pleasant thing to wake up to. her tests are very hard, and need a good few days of studying for a decent grade.
very hard
very hard class, lots of information. Seems very mean and cold in beginning, but if you go see her in office hours shes a really kind woman. dont miss class.
amazing teacher. she kept the topic interesting at all times. you must attend class if you would like to do well, but she made everything interesting
The only thing that is a drag is the 8am time slot. but she is very clear and knowledgeable about biology! its definitely possible to get an A, just take the time to really study. It's college, it's obv not going to be easy but you will learn a lot!
Invert. Zoology is very hard. Very exacting and strict grading, no curve. Half the test is take-home, so it's easy to get a passable grade, but the in class portion is very hard. Very nice and friendly. There is a LOT of material in the class; even at a seeming breakneck pace, we were still behind. Hope you know some Latin; vast amt of terminology
ok, honestly i had her for both bio 1 and 2 and all i can say is the more often i skipped class the better I did, find a way to study that works, and use it, she has no mercy for you if you forget anything.
Her tests are very confusing. she gives out quizzes and she does not curve grades. Very strict.
Had her for BIO 1 and 2. Prof is super knowledgeable... Lectures can sound repeated and boring sometimes. Tests are very wordy- come prepared! Use textbook, studyguides, online book website flashcards to help study... Lots of effort = good grade.
Had her for general bio 1 and 2. You need to put a lot of effort into this class, but its worth it, and you will learn a lot. Very knowledgeable. I would print out a copy of the powerpoint slides and take notes on them while rewatching the lectures on tegrity on blackboard. After that is done, skim the book. A lot of work, but it will pay off.
She's a really nice lady and helpful if you go to her and ask questions. she does a lot for her students and grades the tests within a few hours sometimes. Her tests are really hard esp in BIOL2 but if you study a lot you can still get a good grade because she helps a lot by dropping and averaging lowest tests and quiz grades
had for both Gen Bio 1 & Gen Bio 2...at first the class size, information and her expectations might overwhelm you but I learned so much from taking this class. The book helps to reinforce her lectures but Bio 2 was more about the lectures. Her tests are tricky but after awhile you learn to distinguish what she chooses to put on tests.
i went to class all first semester and got a c- in bio 1, went to class maybe 3 times 2nd semester, got a b- in bio 2. you dont need to go to class, but study for the tests use tegrity and the book.
She is a really great instructor and knows her stuff. Study early Sometimes she goes off on tangents and it becomes hard to distinguish what information is important. You do not need to attend class, TEGRITY = AMAZING. She is really nice and readily available for help and is always timely with email responses even on weekends. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Tests are very hard. Questions are very wordy and hard to understand. Study for the next test 2-3 days after the previous test. Use office hours and e-mail.
Her tests are very wordy and confusing. The material itself is not that hard, but the test itself is like a riddle that you have to solve to figure out what each question is actually asking. Each answer also has multiple parts to try and trip you up. Lecture is very fast paced and it is easy to fall back. Plan on using the textbook a lot!
Tests are very confusing and you have to figure out what the question is asking before you can answer. You can tell she doesn't write her own test and probably uses a test generator. You have to really work hard which can be difficult with a heavy course load.
Her tests are very wordy and hard to think through. You have to study. BUt her Tegrity classes online are useful. Overall she was okay.
I had her a few years ago (pharmacy), and looking back on old tests, they were terribly fair. Anyone who wants to succeed as a pharmacy major will get used to this type of test, or fail. It can be a bit of a transition, but She is a lot better than what's coming- she speaks clear English, uses a good textbook, and reviews everythi
She's a very smart, clear teacher who doesn't just give away As - her exams are tricky, you have to really understand the material. That being said, if you do the work you'll do well. I love her lectures.
Keeps the lectures interesting. Sometimes she only has 8 AM classes, but she posts everything on Tegrity, unless it's not working. Tests are VERY wordy. 63 extremely wordy MCQs in less than an hour. Fair distribution of grades. 25% goes to lab (which is easy in BIO2)
Very clear and helpful professor. Posts all of her lectures on tegrity so it's not that harmful if you don't go to class. Tests are straight from lectures and some references to the textbook. Overall, challenging but fair class. You get a good grade if you put in effort
Hands down the worst teacher I have ever had. Her tests are not clear at all. She does not scale even when the test averages are are in the 60's. She doesnt care about her students at all and makes it seem like she likes to see you struggle. I would not recommend her to anyone.
She really knows her stuff and is really excited to share that material with you. At first, I was angry w/ all the material we had to learn for 1 exam, then I woke up and realized that I am in college = Hard Work. Test questions are like riddles, wrapped in enigmas- they are not direct at all. That being said, really know all material. Use Tegrity
Use Tegrity
Prepare to have slides with barely any information on them and then writing 2 paragraphs worth of information and terms in lecture that she doesn't put anywhere (including the textbook). When material becomes a little more difficult for some reason she becomes extremely disorganized. Notes are unreliable and the textbook is unreliable. Good luck
Her tests are really vague. You are expected to know every tiny detail about everything. Be prepared to work
Talks really fast during lecture, but records and posts every class via tegrity. DO NOT RELY ON TEGRITY! She gives extra credit sometimes to those who show up to her class on a given day because so many people make the mistake of relying on tegrity and those are typically the ones who don't do well. Her tests are tough, but shes very approachable.
Dr. Potts Santone was absolutely one of the best, most organized and inspiring teachers I've ever had. It's clear she puts time and thought into preparing her lectures- she made the material accessible and fascinating. I looked forward to going to class! Tests and scope of material covered are difficult but fair- be ready to study!
Honestly avoid Potts-Santone at all costs. She is a robot. She reads off the slides and thats that. Her tests are 60 multiple choice you have an hour and not a second longer. Good Luck! For some reason its not good enough to know the material you have to be able to figure out her trick questions and riddles too! This class is made to weed kids out.
She's a nice person but she doesn't hand out grades for free. She requires you to know every specific detail she covered, and her tests are full of trick questions. That being said, she does give bonus points for showing up to class.
Oh, Potts. Very likable as a professor but as far as teaching style, it's straight reading off of the (quite pretty) lecture slides. Her study guides give you a pretty good idea of what will be on the test, but bet your butt that she will throw in tangent things that you would not be able to locate in the lecture notes. Study hard, kids.
Great prof, crystal clear directions and assignments, gives extra credit! Has office hours, go to them! The tests really aren't so bad, you just HAVE to attend class (not everything is in the tegrity) and read the textbook! As long as one puts medium effort, you should do fine. The lectures are extremely helpful. She knew me by name out of 150 kids
I really loved the class and she was great at teaching it but theres a ton of information to learn so you need to start studying early for the exams! Two tests, cumulative final, and some assignments throughout the semester. Book was helpful but not totally necessary and definitely go to class.
She is a good teacher and can present a lot of information clearly. However, she presents a ton of info. I took Gen. Bio and it probably should have been MicroBio. She spends a lot of time on specific details that are not all necessarily on the test.
I used to like Biology before I joined this class. While she is clear in her manner of speaking her tests so far have been hard. She posts all of the lectures on Tegrity. Class is very boring and monotone and she does not stop talking for 60 minutes straight. Her tests are not easy. You can't just know the material and pass the test. Dont take her.
Awful Presenter. Just goes through powerpoints with clusters of information which is organized terribly. A lot of random facts about parasites thrown in the middle.
If you ever have to take her class, good luck guys cause you will need it. Her tests are really tough and you really have to know the topics really well because she is really specific with her questions. Her multiple choice questions are really hard and the answer is really hard to find because the answers are really close to each other.
She isn't really that bad. She uploads a recording of all her lectures with the powerpoints online which is extremely helpful if you don't feel like going to class at 8am or if you want to brush up before a test. She also gives extra credit questions if you go to class. Her tests are fine if you actually study.
Go to class. She posts her lectures online but its helpful to go to class because 1. You can get the information twice that way and 2. she gives bonus points randomly throughout the semester. Her tests are very tricky even though she says she doesn't want to trick you, so study often. Her class is hard but worth it.
Avoid her at all costs. She actually made me hate Biology.
Had her for Human Parasitology - tests are super intense, lots of memorization, super detailed PPTs, but she's a nice professor
The tests are pretty tough and very detailed, there is a lot of memorization required. She gives you chances to get points during the semester with online quizzes and random bonus points for coming to class (usually 3 per exam). Posts recorded lectures online which is VERY helpful because she talks too much and too fast during lecture.
Dr. Potts-Santone was a good professor. She lectures intensely but puts up recordings on Tegrity. She grades fairly but only 3 exams in the class(plus few other assignments). She isn't too approachable but emails quickly. Recommend the class if you like the material and are good at memorizing large chunks of information.
Hated this class, tests are super hard and questions are unclear. Don't take if you don't have to.
Took this class even though I had AP Bio credit. It was way harder than expected but she is a really good lecturer. She never stutters and goes over everything in such detail. The way to pass is to memorize literally everything she says. Good luck
She talks a mile a minute, and every second is relevant to the topic. She gives an outline of the topic on a powerpoint, but there is so much more she talks about, and it pops up on the exams. She doesn't care for memorization; rather, she cares for how you apply the concept. She uses Tegrity which is super helpful.
She gives a LOT of information during lectures, but uploads everything to tegrity. Tests are very fair. You know exactly what to expect, though some questions are tricky. So long as you review the tegritys and memorize what you're supposed to, you should do fine. Overall really enjoyed her class, she's very knowledgeable & material is interesting.
Dr. Potts-Santone is absolutely lovely! She is incredibly knowledgeable about her subject and her lectures are very in-depth. Tests are difficult, but they are very fair, there's just a lot of information to remember. What I really love about her class is how she applies the information she teaches to medicine and current scientific data.
Make sure to re-check the information she gives during lectures because some of them seem to be incorrect. Her tests are really hard so even if you think you know biology, you don't.
Speaks too fast and goes off on a tangent too much. Can be unreasonable when it comes to grades.
Lectures are heavy content, but at least she records them so that you can access later. You'll have to work to get a good grade in this class, but as long as you show some effort, it should be fine.
I didn't even have her for a real class, I had her for my Intro to my major course, but I will actively try to avoid taking an actual course under her in the future. She advised us not to trust RateMyProf when choosing classes but I think it's because her score is so poor. She's disorganized and tried to be relatable, but it came off as annoying.
Her tests are ridiculously hard. Don't take this class unless you have to, but she's the only professor who is teaching it.
Lots and lots of memorizing
This is a hard class but tegrity is a savior. She's a great teacher and is very knowledgable, you just have to put in the work and essentially memorize every word she says. tests can be tricky so start studying at least two weeks before the exam. you can't be lazy with this class
Mary Sue was one of the best lecturers I've ever had. You could tell she really knew what she was talking about. Her tests were very straightforward and the content was fair. She also had a lot of extra credit opportunities.
It was my first time taking a biology class and she made me hate biology forever
Potts-Santone is one of those professors who take pride in how many students she can fail a semester. Combination of her inability to effectively teach, ridiculously stupid amount of information required to memorize and questions designed to trick you make it seem like she's trying to set you up to fail. She could not care less about you. Good luck
While this was a diffcult class Dr. Potts Santone made it interesting with her excitement for the topic and interesting stories. You have to take notes and understand the lectures to even get a B in this class but overall I really enjoyed her teaching.
Great understanding of the material, awful conveyance. She obviously has an incredible grasp of what she's talking about, but lord alive she can't tell you anything with sense. No flow or logic, just kinda a whole period of fact after fact after fact. Super smart prof, but you'll need to memorize everything.
Tests are very difficult and take HOURS of studying, purely memorization. Potts-Santone is so sweet and really cares about her students and their success, although this class was difficult for me and I barely got a C, I would definitely take again. She gives multiple quizzes based off of articles, so essentially opennote and online, per semester.
Dr. Potts-Santone is a very sweet and fun lady outside of class. Expect to work hard for exam grades! She is very clear about wanting test averages to be around 75. She is always available for office hours. Easy to skip class and watch the recorded lectures. Reading the textbook is not mandatory but will help a ton! Quizzes are all easy 100s.
Hated her, really doesn't help when you go to her because you are struggling. Makes it more hard on you to feel like you can pass. Doesn't give practice and exams are packed with applying and not definition. You learning from rewatching her recordings.
I believe in my heart that she is not a bad person. That said, she has a tendency for self-importance and condescension. The structure of her class suggests that she values conformity and mindless memorization more than learning. Prepare for extremely dull lectures in which she regurgitates facts and leaves little room for thought or analysis.
I loved Dr. Potts-Santone. I practically lived in her office hours and asked question after question, but it paid off. When you put in the effort, she will reciprocate and help you a lot. NOT an easy class by any means, but that does not mean that she's a bad prof. As long as you do what she recommends and study ahead of time, you'll be fine.
I dislike Professor Potts-Santone's lecture style. It can get boring and she expects you to memorize all the lecture material for the exams. The exam questions are often confusing and more focused on application. She does give extra credit, which is pretty decent. The textbook could be helpful if you need a supplement to the lectures.
Dr. Potts-Santone is clearly knowledgeable. However, her lectures, are poorly organized for the high level of memorization and specificity she demands. The final grade is almost entirely based on 4 tests, including the final. Very little application of knowledge. She claims she wants everyone to do well but also doesn't curve a 46% average exam.
One of the best professors I've had! Go to her office hours! She's extremely helpful and accommodating. Especially if you're registered with the DRC, she's the professor to have! She's very understanding and really cares. I wish all of my professors were like her!! Lectures cover a lot of material but she's enthusiastic and interesting to listen to
Terrible professor, tedious class! Her lectures are stale and her tests are too specific. She swears the exams aren't designed to be tricky, but the questions are so ambiguous, and most of the test content isn't even on the lecture slides. This is a dull zoology class with no curve. You're forced to memorize useless information. Avoid at all costs!
Professor expects you to memorize every little thing she says. Exhaust all other options before considering taking this class. She seems like a professor who takes pride in students scoring poorly on her tests. Lecture slides are disorganized, and lectures are mainly just her rambling on and on about specific zoology facts. No curve. Boring class.
Easily one of the worst classes and professors I've had in a long time. You can tell she loves what she does, but she makes no effort to make the class interesting for students. She doesn't teach in a cohesive way and you have to memorize everything. It's not actual learning, just cramming pointless information. Hated every minute of it.
Your grade is based on 3 exams and a final. No curve! Lectures are all basically her talking nonstop for 65 minutes. Tests are ridiculously specific. The whole class is basically a massive information dump, and you have to regurgitate specific facts on the tests. No application of the things you learn, just memorization. Boring class, waste of time
If I could give her a 0/5, I would. Horrible class. All you do is learn about random organisms, and spit out really really specific facts about them on her tests. She gives quizzes about random, kinda-related things, but nothing you learn on quizzes shows up on the test. If you don't do well on the tests, you're screwed because there's no curve.
Do not take this class unless you absolutely have to! It's a boring class with a dull teacher. Lots of memorization. The entire semester, it didn't really feel like I was actually learning anything, just memorizing stuff and answering questions for a grade. Seriously, stay far away from this class, and avoid having this professor.
I would say that Gen Bio 2 material is a lot easier than Gen Bio 1 stuff, so you can expect the tests to be a little easier. If you want to do good on tests, I suggest you look at the recorded Panopto lectures + study guide she makes and take notes/make flashcards using them both. Lectures were boring for me. Take advantage of the extra credit.
Tests are heavily lecture-based, each lecture is roughly exact 65 mins long and easy to get lost Tests are pure memorization, so if you are not a good memorizer, it's hard to get a high score on exams. The whole course's grade is merely based on 4 tests: 3 mid-terms (60%), and a final (23%). No curve! Even the average of the class is really low
If you have to take Potts-Santone's class I am so so sorry. Every day is the same- listening to her read lecture slides to you and expecting you to copy down every word. If you don't type up an exact transcript of each class, it'll be hard to do well on tests. 3 midterms + a final, no homework- just study. Make sure to rewatch every Panopto video.
If I could give Potts-Santone a zero, I definitely would. She makes no effort to help her students whatsoever, and will get annoyed during office hours. Her tests are insanely specific and it is clear she takes pride in watching her students struggle. Averages for tests are almost always around a low C and are never curved. Study as much as you can
If you have MSPS, buckle up and get ready for a crazy semester. Don't get me wrong- she is a smart woman. She is also very detail oriented, highly specific, and she has very high expectations. Tests are crazy hard- you need to actively study for at least 10 hours to get an A. She goes through lots of material in very little time, so pay attention!!
This class is pure memorization. I did not learn a single thing, really unenjoyable experience. do not recommend. teacher is nice enough but the way she structures her class is absolutely horrid. she is aware of the unfavorable reviews on ratemyprof yet still remains delusional and does not take the very real criticism into account.
This professor is the main reason I wish RMP allowed 0 as an option. Honestly, it's a disgrace that she's still teaching after so many students have had the same issues with her. The entire course is memorizing every word she says, tests contain random specific details from one lecture, and you'll have to rewatch lectures after every class. -100/10
Super test heavy.
Tests are very difficult and based on critical thinking. She's reluctant to help during office hours and seems unenthusiastic about teaching kids based on student interactions. I've heard dozens of complaints from fellow peers as well. Avoid if you can. If you have to take her, study hard and prepare to do worse than you think you will.
Listen I know everyone dislikes her because she's really difficult but it IS possible to do well in the course, you just have to spend a lot of time studying. She is a personality most people dislike, but I get her teaching style. Rewatch lectures on 2x or download fast panopto to watch even faster. You don't need to go to class but WATCH lectures.
If you can avoid taking Potts-Santone, I would advise you to do so. Grade is essentially based on a few tests. She teaches at a fast pace-be ready to re-watch her lectures after class to make up for all the information you missed during lecture. When going to office hours, she was short with me and often unfriendly. Not sure why she chose to teach.
Surprised about these reviews on Prof. Potts-Santone. She makes exams very doable (given you listen in class) and even gave multiple opportunities for extra credit. People are dramatic, do not listen to the reviews on here.
This professor's exams are very specific to what we learned in class, but I think some of the reviews on here are exaggerating. She was an effective lecturer, I usually left class with a solid understanding of what we learned, and I translated this knowledge to exams (I do think that having prior knowledge of biology from AP Bio helped, though)
Professor Potts-Santone is an effective teacher and gives you opportunities to improve your grade. She does go through material very fast, so if you miss anything in class you should rewatch the lectures. It helps to have taken biology in high school.
Her tests are insanely specific and her lectures go by so quick that it is hard to catch up. If you have Potts Santone, get ready for a crazy semester. Study more than you think you should. Each tests gets worse and the professor seems to not care.
If you can try to avoid her, the exams are super specific. You have to take notes on literally everything that she says.
While her class covered a lot of material in a very short amount of time, I feel that she was very clear about what you needed to know to do well. I definitely put more time into studying for her exams than I expected, but her study guides were very helpful. The content on the exams was the content she emphasized during class. Don't skip lecture!!
Despite lower ratings on this website, I enjoyed Professor Potts-Santone's lectures and class overall. Because exams are lecture-heavy, I suggest that you attend lectures on a regular basis and take good notes. She also gave multiple opportunities to earn extra credit and improve your grade.
Put in the hours and you'll most likely do fine. She gave lots of extra credit. Pay attention in the lectures and write down what she says, not what is on the slides. When you study, just review both. Do lots of active recall when studying, don't just read over your notes. Don't waste time with the textbook.
The difficulty of her classes comes from the exams, which have very specific questions about the application of the material, however during her lectures she doesn't cover this type of application and doesn't prepare you for her own exams. Lecture slides are disorganized, prepare to self-teach
Potts may be difficult, but she lets you know that exams are detail oriented and difficult. I would recommend taking notes directly on her slides, and writing down the important details she says. Her exams are on the content and what she says in lecture. To study, I rewatched the lectures on 2x speed and did active recall with friends. Good luck
Professor Potts-Santone is not as bad as some of the reviews on here say, her tests may be specific but if you pay attention in class and write down everything she says (and rewatch the lectures if necessary), you will be fine. The class consists of the final, 3 exams, and 4 quizzes, but she does give ample opportunities for extra credit.
I took Mary Sue's class freshman year and am still amazed I passed. She is clearly incredibly knowledgeable but is often rude to students who have questions. Even when I went into her office hours for help, she was dismissive and I left more confused than when I went in. Avoid taking her class if you can!
Worst professor I've taken in my entire academic career. Avoid at all costs. Incredibly rude to students in class & during office hours. I genuinely do not think she should be a professor. Not sure if she's unhappy with her profession, but it seems to take it out on her students. Will test on 1 sentence she said off-hand; Memorize entire lecture.
Incredibly tedious for an introductory course. Memorize every single bullet point. Says she wont test on numbers and then proceeds to ask for specific statistics -- misleading for the exams. Revels in the needless difficulty of her exams, then blames the students for being "poor test takers" and "not careful enough". Avoid if you can.
She is not as bad as people say she is. Just go to class, take good notes, and you will be fine. She records every lecture, allowed us to correct our exams for some credit back, and offered many extra credit points.
Good professor with thorough lectures and many opportunities to earn extra credit. She is a nice professor and wants students to succeed, although her exams are highly specific and contain material she would mention briefly in class.
Terrible teacher and voice.
Quite an intelligent woman who should be working in research. If you go to her office hours, this is the best way to seek assistance for her course. She is very hardcore and very thorough. Her lectures are not the most intriguing and you will be tested on minuscule details. (course completed in 2020)
This class was the actual worst, i have never written a review on here before but had to after I took this class. AVOID if you can, you will be tested on the most minute details that have no meaning to your life or sometimes even the course. Save your mental health by not taking this class
I would not take class with this professor again. She does not seem to care about the success of her students. The test are extremely specific and volume of lecture material does not match the level of the course.
Never experienced a professor who cares less about her students. Avoid at all costs.
Never take this professor. Avoid at all costs if you want to pass. Her voice is excruciatingly painful to listen to. The hour lecture is unbearable and time feels so slow.
Prof. Potts-Santone has an unfair reputation, IMO. She is very knowledgeable and offers many opportunities to correct exams. You have to put in a considerable amount of effort to do well, but I'm walking away with what I think is a solid foundation in biology. Don't be intimidated: study hard, go to office hours and you'll see results.
Every little detail matters to MSPS. Understanding concepts isn't good enough. She has designed this course as a weed-out, and it nearly worked for me. Stick with it, find a study buddy, and buckle up for a tough semester.
Potts-Santone's class is designed to be a weed-out class, and while I had to withdraw for personal reasons, it just wasn't a class I'd ever take. Classes are exam-based, with minute details on the exams. She was caring for sure outside of class, and actually does look out for her students. Buckle up, because the semester will be rough.
This class is just straight memorization. If you can memorize every vocab word spoken during lecture that's kind of the only way to do well in the class. She does offer exam corrections. Can be very condescending when a student asks a question. Class was basically an info dump, and very boring.
Ms. Potts-Santone reads from a script and expects you to memorizes every word of that script. Personally, I have nothing against her I am sure she is nice and whatever. However, her style of teaching is meant to take over your life. I was a top performer in this class and hated every second of it. Be prepared to spend all of your free time on this.
Not as bad as everyone says. She gives a ton of extra credit and automatically rounds your grade. Let me make up an exam when I had the flu as well. It is pretty memorization/lecture heavy but she records everything. Definitely not an easy A, however.
Every lecture is a 60-minute info dump where the ONLY reason you don't fall asleep is because of how grating her voice is. It doesn't appear at first, but just wait until her rude and condescending side comes out. I couldn't be happier to be done with this professor and this class. I hope you have good memorization skills!
Mary is extremely rude and demeaning to students. The icing on the cake was when she screamed "whoever cracks their knuckles next is getting thrown out of the room and receiving a zero" while we were taking our final exam in the dead silent lecture hall. Every question asked is returned with a sarcastic and humiliating response. Also awful teacher!!
Lecture-heavy with crazy slides (not pleasing to the eyes) as well as a script that she reads off of. This course does require a lot of memorization and requires a lot of time to study (expected to know every detail of a topic) and her office hours don't help too much. Avoid her, but if you can't, take notes of everything NOT on the slides!
The worst professor I've ever had in all my years of being a student. Does not explain things in a clear way, but rather just spits out information we are expected to immediately absorb and understand. I don't feel as though I've been taught to understand concepts. She is throwing random facts and details at us and hoping they stick.
Confusing and disorganized lectures. The instructor reads off of a script. An unrealistic amount of memorization is expected.
Lecture-heavy but posts recordings so you can go back over it. She provides a study guide and if you just follow along with the study guide and review overall you will be fine. Exam questions were multiple-choice. Offers exam corrections for points back and small extra credit opportunities along the way. Sometimes a little rude.
The most material dense course I took my first semester at NU. Lots of memorization but she makes the material interesting sometimes which makes that a bit easier. She's serious about teaching, which is respectable, and she expects that to be reciprocated. I learned a lot, but it was not easy learning. She could've organized the material better.
I don't think I have ever met a more caring professor. I got extremely sick this semester, and Mary worked with me and helped me. She pushed back exams to when I could take them and was always available for Zoom office hours, even if it wasn't the normal time. People usually don't like her cause her tests are hard, but it's not if you study right.
Take this class if you want to decipher the most disorganized, not descriptive, and JANK powerpoints. She is a lovely woman (such a sweetheart!) but her powerpoints suck.
I had her my freshman year and tried to avoid her at all costs. Fast forward and I also have her my senior year. Nothing's changed. She makes exams SUPER detail heavy and sometimes I have to wonder when she even mentioned certain things in lecture. I've taken all the upper stem classes and this class requires me to put in more work than those.
She seems super sweet as a person-- I just could not learn from her. Daunting, wordy lectures that are impossible to understand. Only offered 8am so it was just bound to be bad. Tests are super heavy (+ stuff you never learned) but she will actually help answer questions mid-test. If you put in the effort, you will do well--it's just annoying.
I took this class 2 years ago and am still scarred. Exams require you to know the content in extreme, unnecessary detail. The slides are very disorganized. The professor was unhelpful when I went for office hours.
She does give a lot of information that you need to know for the exam, but she made that aware the first day. Just make sure to be going over your notes on a regular basis and you'll do fine on the exams. She allows for corrections on every exam and gives extra credit opportunities. Don't let these reviews scare you, I really enjoyed her class.
She has an attitude that made me not want to attend class. Her voice is irritating and all she does is word dump off of slides that are terribly put together. I feel like she made this course a lot harder than it needed to be. She isn't understanding and has yelled at people during exams(loudly) for having tech issues or cracking knuckles.
Genuinely the worst professor that I have ever had. I had read the reviews before taking her and assumed they were from students who did not try and expected a good grade, but that is not the case. It seems like she purposefully makes this class as hard as she can. Doing well on any test is a miracle. Avoid at all costs.
read off of the slides during lecture and didn't explain the information at all. reading the textbook 1000 times is more helpful than going to her lectures/office hours. 3 exams and one final but only offers corrections for the first two exams. the material seems easy but her exams are difficult for no reason. i don't recommend taking potts-santone
Way too much content to know and exams are pretty detailed. Offered corrections for 2/3 exams. Offered extra credit points in class here and there. Would avoid.
Her lectures were not very interesting, and she doesn't take attendance however if you choose to skip you will most likely fail the tests. If you don't go to class, it's very important to watch the recording of the lecture to catch up as the tests are based majorly off the content discussed in class. She offers lots of extra credit opportunities.
Sometimes puts extra credit hints in the syllabus so make sure to read it. Also gives out extra credit to people who come to class when not many people show up. Is a fine professor, just don't get on her bad side and don't crack your knuckles during tests or she WILL crash out
Honestly I think some people are a bit dramatic about Potts-Santone. I think a lot of the animosity people have towards her is just because the class is really hard. She is a lovely human and cares about you succeeding, and you get extra points for going to class. It is entirely memorization but so are most bio classes so I think it was reasonable.
dont take.
Tests are memorization-heavy and VERY specific. You can only do well if you memorize ALL the slides word for word. Lectures are recorded and she gives a lot of extra credit opportunities if you attend in-person. Lectures are a little boring and not engaging. If you're good at memorizing, her class might be ok, if not, not the best class to take.
if you can't memorize she isn't the prof for you. tests are SUPER specific, like she will add content she talked about one like for like 30 seconds. sometimes she can be super sweet and at others times super cold. clearly very passionate about what she does, but also expects everyone to come to class with that same mindset.
Her class is hard + exams are memorization heavy, but so are most bio classes. She gives a HUGEEE amount of extra credit which boosted my grade so much. She is super passionate and knowledgeable, and I really liked her enthusiasm + flexibility. People enjoy hating on her as a way of coping about their grades, but i think her class is very doable.
Her class is manageable if it's the only difficult class you have. It's not a heavy work load besides periodic quizzes but the material/slides are messy and poorly organized for students to learn properly. She moves quickly and unclear while expecting you to memorize previous lecture details. The class is hard but she makes it harder.
RUN. Take ANY other professor for Bio 1 or 2. Potts makes this course unnecessarily hard—harder than upper-level classes. Expects unrealistic memorization. I excelled in other rigorous courses but couldn't do well here despite intense studying and a tutor. Exam questions are purposely confusing. She offers poll extra credit but it barely helps.
She can be super intense, especially on test days. Her class truly is difficult, but she will do her best to help if you go to class and show interest/effort. She was very caring and understanding with me, but important not to get on her bad side... GO TO LECTURE!! Impossible to do well if you don't
I love biology, but her class truly made me question and slowly chipped away at my love for the subject. She goes extremely quickly in class, and you'll likely have to teach yourselves a lot. She records her lectures, which are convenient for studying, because anything she says could show up on the exam. Exams are SPECIFIC, so expect to study!
