I took art appreciation with this instructor and I defiantly recommend it! The instructor is very nice and easy to talk to. They are also knowledgeable and explain the content well. This class is simple and straightforward.
There are alot of assignments weekly in this class
Class is laid out very clearly, and the teacher is very helpful if you need it.
She has been very helpful when I needed help and responds quickly. She also goes in depth about the paintings and chapters that we are lectured on.
She was awesome and helped out. The material was not hard to understand at all.
She was great, helped us through her lectures and emails whenever there was a need.
fav professor
Everything is well organized and she even gives you suggestions on your art pieces and appreciates every assignment you do
I actually really liked this class. She does assign homework that is due every Sunday but before the we were really into the semester I put reminders on my phone so I would not forget to do assignments that were due. Overall easy grader and tests are easy as well, just participate in the discussion posts and do your work.
It is clear that professor Mary cares about her students and wants them to pass. Each class is relaxed and there is lecture/some discussion, with very mild homework. While this class doesn't require too much studying, I have still learned so much just from being in class, and paying attention/ occasionally asking questions.
She was very precise by telling us what she wanted us to do and research on.
Ms. Tidy-Coyle was a great teacher. I am glad I had her for my first experience with online college. I would highly recommend her and would enjoy taking classes from her again.
Very well organized. Able to know what is due each week. Gives great feedback on homework. Explains the work well. She knows the material very well.
Makes learning art history less of a drag with funny commentary. Tests can be kind of hard, you have to study!
She was honestly amazing!!!! I really liked the way she taught. And she was hilarious! Take notes and pay attention and youll pass no problem!
Mary Tidy-Coyle has short lectures with learning material given to read outside of class. Not attending the lectures or reading the extra material can hurt you when taking tests. Other then that the class was easy and I was always able to ask for help when I didn't understand something. How well you get along with her will depend on how you learn.
I really like the way that she did online schooling. It made it easy and straightforward. She also responds in a timing matter and its rude at all. I would definitely take her class again and you should register with her before it's too late.
Great professor, always there to help and made the lectures enjoyable to watch
Professor Tidy-Coyle is a very awesome teacher. She is passionate about what she teaches and I enjoyed her class. There was a lecture, reading assignment, discussion post, and quiz with every weeks work. If you do the work, you will pass. If you choose to skip lessons you won't likely make it. She's awesome and makes the work enjoyable.
She knows the material well and makes the lectures interesting. Also, allows opportunities to make up work as long as you communicate with her. Would recommend this class if your needing fine art credit.
It was easy to know when assignments needed to be turned in, and easy to know what to do for the assignments. The lectures were engaging and interesting to listen to.
The professor was clear on grading, gave exceptional feedback, was accessible outside of class, and actually uses Canvas well. The class requires some time especially if you are not fine art inclined. I have no complaints and would take and recommend her again for Intro to Art.
She is a great communicator. If I needed help, she responded back in a timely manner. I also liked how she used lectures, which were helpful to me.
She's extremely well-versed in her subject and obviously enjoys teaching, be prepared to take notes and pay attention though, other than that the class is relatively easy :).
Mary Tidy-Coyle was easily accessible via email and responded in a timely manor, she was easy to follow along with and I enjoyed her video lectures.
Uses lots of videos and slideshows to teach lessons.Required a quiz and discussion for mostly every week but would do well on them both if you watched the videos and tapped through the powerpoint for that week.
used Canvas for weekly Discussion posts: 150 words and 50-word responses on two other student posts. 20 question quizzes due each week on Canvas. Also used Cengage MindTap for weekly quizzes. She also had power points and video lectures posted on Canvas every week. There was a 50-question midterm quiz and a 50-question final exam quiz on Canvas.
It is easy to see that she loves teaching art. She gives great feedback and is very caring. I always felt comfortable reaching out to her. She is understanding and always willing to help. The class was fun and easy to understand. I would recommend the course to anyone! :)
I loved Professor Mary's class so much! Favorite class ever. She made it easy to understand the lessons and to follow along. She does not grade by exams or quizzes-just homework and projects. She's very open to new ideas and encourages the students to think and experiment outside the box. Participation is important to follow along with the lessons.
I have progressed more in her studio art class than I have in years. She is the best art teacher I have ever had. She gives very thorough critiques. This is not a blow off class I have spent hours working on homework but she is very understanding and lenient with timelines She gives you every chance to succeed in this class.
This professor is amazing. She gives great feedback and is a quick responder. I was having wifi problems at the school (lol), and Canvas automatically submitted my quiz and gave me a horrible score. I emailed her and communicated my problem and within thirty minutes, she had already fixed it. She also has amazing lectures and coursework.
She is amazing and understanding!
The weekly quizzes may seem like a lot at first but they should be pretty easy to do as long as you read the online textbook and watch the lecture videos. Overall, it's a very easy class and Mrs. Tidy-Coyle takes the time to read and reply to all of our class discussions.
Professor Tidy-Coyle is very knowledgeable in her field of study. She provides great criticism that will make you a better artist. She is very involved with her students and is very caring.
She is very kind and is a very goof professor! You will learn so many things taking this course that are extremely beneficial if you love anything and everything art. There are homework assignments every week so make sure you plan ahead so you can complete them on time.
She is fantastic! There is one out of class project due every week, which if you are a perfectionist like me, can be very easily to get behind on. Just stay on top of your work and show up to class. She is VERY understanding and genuinely wants you to succeed. Never had a better professor!
It was a great class, and if you pay attention, you will do excellent! The discussions are critical, and watching the PowerPoint and reading about the art will be helpful.
Such a great class to learn more about art, and if you participate as you should, you will pass the course. By watching the PowerPoint videos and the lectures, you will do good in your weekly discussions.
Very chill class! Work is primarily quizzes based on reading and group discussions which are not especially difficult. She uses two different sites for classwork though, so be sure to stay on top of both. All assignments are available at the start, so if you can, try to get stuff done early.
Class is an easy A if you show up to class every day and do your homework. There is typically one homework assignment due every week and one big final project. She lets you turn things in late up until the last week of school.
This class is an easy A if you just do your work. Not assigned a ton of work per week which is helpful if you. have a handful of other classes. Discussions are critical! Don't forget to do your discussions!
Mrs. Tidy-Coyle is a great teacher who knows her stuff about art! She is very consistent. She is willing to help students with any questions or issues that may come up during the semester as long as there is communication. Homework is assigned every week, but not so much that you can't handle it with other classes. Would highly recommend.
I really liked her class and the assignments were fun. I learned a lot from this class.
She's understanding as long as you try!
Professor Tidy-Coyle is super cool and funny. You cover so many types of mediums with in the semester. Really fun class!
She is really nice and understanding. Just let her know what you need, and she will help to the best of her ability.
I loved this professor. She graded about 2 days after the due date, and she was always available whenever I need to be. She also gave out good feedback, especially on written assignmnets.
Has everything organized, no trouble catching up with assignments, she is vmis very knowledgeable of the materials she teaches, very interesting fun class to take if you are looking for art classes would take it again.
Great professor overall, gave amazing feedback!
This professor was always prepared for class and always gave in-depth lectures. Her grading material was very clear and the class was set up for the student's success.
Professor Mary is one of the best professor I have had at NWACC. This class is structured in a way that allows people that cannot draw stick figures to pass. They grade more so on the effort put into the work rather than the actual art itself.
Mary Tidy-Coyle is a very good teacher. She knows how to help when you need help and gives amazing feedback. She makes me feel very good when grading my assignments. 10/10 would take this course again she is very good at teaching.
This class was an elective, recommended to me by my advisor, and I wasn't expecting much. However, I greatly enjoyed the low-key lecture experience. Your assignments are quizzes, discussion posts, and an occasional writing assignment. That's all. 10/10. Take her class.
She is really cool. You'll love having her as your teacher. She lectures quick then you do your art project. The only bad thing is you always have homework that is a timely art project that you'll then have to hang up in front of the class. If you work and go to school this will be a difficult class due to the time and resources you need for it.
Honestly the class itself was dreadfully boring and attendance was also graded heavily. I would have preferred to take this class online had I known that the class work would be online anyways. The class is super easy and good to just get credits, but it's also a burden to go to. Professor is nice, but as I said boring.
Simply an amazing professor! The lectures tend to be a bit short but she is clearly passionate about what she's teaching. Homework isn't a burden either. Easy quizzes every week, a few discussion board posts, and 2 essays. When asking for feedback on certain assignments, she makes you feel confidant in what you're turning in. Take her class!
Prof. Mary Tidy-Coyle is an amazing professor and really wants students to succeed. The lectures in this class are intriguing if you're interested in art, but has a lot of modern application if not. The classes are concise. She is always available for questions before, after class, + during office hours and is very responsive online.
She's a great teacher and is always ready with a plan of how the day will go. Class is usually over early.
Ms Mary Tidy-Coyle is a great teacher, always willing to help students in class and outside of class. I enjoy her energy towards art and how she views and values her passion. she allowed me to understand her point of view and art as well
I loved the class. You get to learn and explore many new things. The professor is very nice and understanding. They do give a good amount of homework but if you enjoy art then you should be fine.
there are many quizzes, but they are all open notes.
There are quizzes every week along with either a discussion or a paper to write. She is a pretty reasonable professor. Her expectations are straight to the point from the beginning of the semester.
Professor Tidy-Cole, was an easy professor and super caring about outside life if you needed extra time on assignments. Also very easy class to pass, always clear instructions for assignments. And if you had question she would stay after class or could always email her and she responded quickly. I would highly recommend her!!
Professor Mary Tidy-Coyle is a great teacher who is open and honest with their students, has a great lectures and grades fairly
Great professor and overall a great experience taking her class.
She is respectful, positive, knowledgeable, talented, and has a very good sense of humor. She is also very understanding and flexible.
A great environment to be in, I love that she engages with everyone. She is there to see her students succeed!
She is awesome! Easily reachable outside class hours. Very caring and won't hesitate to help her students.
I LOVED Mary!! She is a fantastic teacher and cares for her students. She teaches very well and makes the homework instructions very clear. The grading is very fair and she is very understanding of students. Sometimes the homework may seem very challenging, but that challenge is what helps you grow. I would definitely take her again!!
I have never really enjoyed art but this class was very good. It was super easy to navigate and she was very good at making sure I always caught up and if was out of town was sure flexible too easy to work with. She seems to care about making sure her students do well. Great Class and Teacher!
Professor Mary Tidy-Coyle is very helpful. All lectures and assignments are very clear to understand. Overall I have enjoyed this class and would recommend this class to others.
Lectured base class, but homework is based off the lectures so it's clear and pretty easy to understand. Attendance does matter. She gives good feedback on the essays. 10/10 would take the class again.
She gives great feedback to turned in assignments, and gives tips for future assignments. She is very helpful since she is always there to reach out to. The course was balanced between work and studying, and it was an interesting course!
Very easy if you are willing to put forth a bit of effort, very self-paced.
She is such a nice and good teacher! The lessons and criteria were very easy to follow and complete.
I had a great experience learning from Professor Mary Tidy-Coyle! The art course I took was one of my first online college classes and Tidy-Coyle helped answer any questions I had with clarity. Lecture PowerPoints were heavily used throughout the course; however, all of the necessary information was included to perform well on the assessments.
Great professor. She was very understanding and gave very understandable assignments. Would definitely recommend!
Expectations were clear and challenging- but also always achievable. This class had one of the best work environments I've ever experienced. Easily would recommend anyone who can take her classes to do so.
She shows amazing dedication to the art that she is teaching, showing she knows what she's talking about as well as making it simple and easy for any learner to understand. Went in not knowing much of anything about art or deeper meanings to it and coming out understanding it at a new level.
Overall the class was enjoyable. The work for the class wasn't bad at all.
Always gave out of class assignments every week. If you do your work then the class is easy, you also get graded for showing up as well. Always explained assignments well and always checked if help is needed.
I took her for Art Appreciation and it was overall an easy class. We had lectures every class, along with a discussion and quiz that went along with every module that we did. There were a few papers and a final. Make sure to attend class. But you should do great as long as you show up and do the work!
She is such a good professor. She explains everything so well and makes it easy to pass her class
She is a really good teacher!!
I have loved her. She cares about her students!!
Very easy class and has a forgiving teacher. Mrs. Tidy-Coyle uses lectures every day with assignments being due online. As long as you focus in class, the assignments will be easy and the test will be even easier since they use portions of the lectures.
Attendance matters and can help your grade!!
Super easy as long as you listen and great teacher. super understanding.
She is awesome! She is super kind and caring. I definitely recommend her class!
Great courses fun quizzes helped me learn new things about art in the world
I took her Art Appreciation course and passed. She is a great professor, she's so kind, funny and understanding. If you have anything come up, she is is great with extensions, work and due dates are very clear. She is also very open and fair and likes hearing different opinions. Great teacher, could be a friend if we weren't professional! 11/10
She is very understanding and is willing to work with you. Her art appreciation class is super easy if you just follow along with what is going on and just follow the syllabus
very easy class if you follow the syllabus and she really knows her stuff about art
I definitely recommend this professor! Lecture heavy but shows great knowledge of the course making the lectures enjoyable! very easy course as long as you do the work.
She is a very nice professor, who always grades work quickly and sets clear expectations. There is never any confusion on what you need to do she is always very clear with her explanations.
Homework is a manageable 2 to 4 hours a week. Things were graded fair and there was a lot of individualized feedback throughout the course
Mary Tidy-Coyle gives straight-the-point lectures and grades assignments quickly while providing good feedback.
She sends regular emails with information and uses slides to give the information. Everything is very clear to understand and easy to complete.
She is super understanding and pushes you to do good work. I wasn't expecting her class to be interesting and though I didn't have much interest in learning about art, I definitely enjoyed it.
I would definitely recommend taking a class with Prof. Mary Tidy-Coyle. She is encouraging and pushes your creativity. I was a little unsure how this class was going since I have not had much art experience, but through this class and good feedback, I have found a new passion in art.
She da goat and is cool take her if you can and would recommend her to anyone.
I signed up for this class as a beginner thinking it wasn't going to be too challenging. I was wrong!! This class was really tested my creativity. However, I really enjoyed the class. Everything from what material we learned to the class environment and most importantly Prof. Mary. I recommend everyone to take this class.
This professor gives good lectures on the material and helps students understand the content of the course. They use PowerPoint for the notes and let students have access in case they miss something during the lecture and the professor explains the content around different topics and concepts.
She was very easy to communicate with and flexible to real life, so long as you communicate with her she is available and was willing to help and advise me. I enjoyed her grading material and the way her class was set up just be prepared it is a time consuming class in that to finish your homework you will need extra time and space.
She was one of my favorite professors this semester. She includes students in discussions and values our thoughts and opinions. She treats you like a human being and works with you if you have anything come up during the semester that makes it difficult to manage your classwork.
She is a very kind and understanding person. Will give you many chances to improve your grade. For example, if you have missing work, she will allow you to turn it in late. Easy class over all. You will get a good grade as long as you do your work. Interesting lectures as well. I highly recommend Professor Tidy-Coyle.
Overall easy class to take! PowerPoints are posted that contain all the notes/lectures that will be given over the duration of the whole course. Students have easy access in case they miss something during the lecture. As long as you read over the notes and do the assignments you can pass this class!
As an online honors art-appreciation course, this was great. I am not the most art savvy individual by any means but I actually really enjoyed this class. You will have quizzes over weekly power points which are easy if you take a look at the material. Seems like a wonderful person and is a great teacher. Highly recommend!
Professor Coyle was an alright teacher. I just didn't realize art appreciation is art history. Her voice is monotone and the lecture is pretty boring. But it is an easy A.
Great professor. Clearly gives the criteria for assignments and gives good feedback.
Mary was an amazing professor, she showed me how to hesitate less when drawing and painting which has helped all my abilities broaden.
Mary has helped me a lot with my painting skills. More specifically, Mary taught me to slow down with my paintings and has given a lot of great tips. I wouldn't say that I am a great painter or anything, but I have definitely seen improvement over the semester.
It isn't a super hard course, but it can be easy to fall behind. The instructor is very, but, at the same time, she also helps to try to prepare you the best that she can the first time around, leaving you really no room for questions on what this thing means in that assignment or what that's supposed to show, etc. Great course!
Make sure you do the work and you'll be fine. There are lots of critiques in this class, and she will work with you if you get behind on assignments. The majority of this course is still lives, but there are a couple of variations that you do throughout the semester.
Provides very helpful feedback on artworks and doesn't sugar coat anything.
Prof.Tidy-Coyle is a very caring person and if you pay attention in class to the slides the weekly test are super easy!! She is very understanding and caring of her students.
Is a kind and respectful professor. Expects the best from you. When critiques: is fair and understanding. Clear about assignments, but if you try something different is happy to see initiative. Homework is graded based on effort. The final for this class was a lot... but it really did force us to push ourselves and make something to be proud of.
The instructor was kind and respected the students. The instructor taught the course material in a way that made it exciting and fun.
The instructor explained the course assignments in a way that made it exciting and fun.
I would definitely recommend Professor Tidy-Coyle. I took her honors course in Art Appreciation and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There was a wide variety of assignments that require critical thinking and you will have to put in the effort to do well in this course. The instructor is also very willing to help. Loved this class!
The lecture notes were very clear and directly related to things on the quizzes, they were very concise. Everything in the notes was what you needed to know in order to do well in the class, and was supported by occasional videos. The class was easy, with very few papers and interesting topics for class discussion posts.
Informative material and interesting topics and art history are covered. Lots of reading and slides to learn, but assignments are not insanely hard or difficult to complete. I enjoyed learning about art history through this online course.
Fun and interesting course to learn about art history. Material is given clearly and good feedback and encouragement was received. Lots of quizzes over lecture material. I enjoyed the participation topics and discussions.
I think the professor's teaching style and ability to convey material clearly was fantastic. The lecture notes were very useful, engaging, and provided lots of information in a way that was easy to process while making sure not to overload students with too much at once. The instructions were also very clear in what was being asked of us.
This was a pretty easy and fun art appreciation class. A good grade is very attainable in this class if you keep up with and turn in assignments. While attendance was not mandatory it is apart of your grade so it is worth your time to be in class. The lectures are usually shorter than the actually class time. She also has a good sense of humor.
This class easy as long as you show up and complete work. She has a good sense of humor and tries to make the lectures somewhat interesting. Lectures are usually shorter and do not last for the full class time.
Professor Mary Tidy- Colye is a very understanding and fair professor. I learned so much about art that I would have never learned if I didn't take this class.
This professor is great! Her lectures are mostly PowerPoints but you learn a lot from them. Her quizzes are easy. If you try you'll get A's or B's on them. I recommend her if you need to take this class.
This professor is really great. She is very helpful, any time I had a question she was quick to respond. She did a good job of grading she always gave helpful feedback. I once submitted a very incomplete essay and she was kind enough to give me an extension and resubmit.
She's very nice and creates a good environment. You do have to ask questions if you need any help, she doesn't just freely comment on what you're doing, but she does ask if you need anything and gives you the opportunity to ask.
She gives good feedback on papers. The instructions for the assignments are very clear and easy to understand.
I am glad I took this professor! I did not expect to like coming to art class that much. Her assignments are really easy, just make sure you stay on track. She gives great feedback on most of the assignments, that could help you on the following assignments.
It is a to-the-point class. As long as you do all the assignments on time it's an easy A. Nice teacher and fast grader. Attendance is apart of your grade.
Pretty easy professor. Easy to learn teaching style, including lecture notes, exams, written assignments, discussions, and more.
Pretty easy instructor. Clear teaching style, including exams, discussions, written assignments, and lecture notes.
Pretty easy instructor. Clear teaching style, including exams, written assignments, discussions, and lecture notes.
This teacher was the best to take for Art! I took it as an Honors course and I learned a LOT more than I thought I would. Online lectures, weekly quizzes, midterm/final format, a couple of papers throughout the semester. Great feedback and very clear instructions for everything!
The professor's professional abilities are great! I would recommend this! (coming from a 9th grader) this class was an easy A. There were no text books whatsoever. However, the lectures can be long at times, so be prepared for some reading. The professor has great communication skills as well! Overall a great course and very informative!
This professor provides great feedback in all of the assignments, helping you understand the content better. Any questions would be answered in a timely manner. Great professor, great class for those who would like to learn more about art.
Very knowledgeable and helpful. Great inspiration for serious artists. Provides challenges with great helps.
They're a great professor who's very generous with late work and gives good feedback on work.
Great professor, clear instruction, good feedback, generous with later work
She gives weekly exams, but they're not that difficult usually around 20 questions and she includes lecture notes.
The professor was very knowledgeable and provided me with lots of valuable feedback. I did not know I enjoyed painting until I took this class, now it's a new hobby of mine!
The class was pretty easy, homework is assigned 1-2 times a week and is critiqued at the beginning of the class. Do your assignments and don't rush. If you don't know whats going on she answers questions very clearly. Overall it was enjoyable, and I learned that I enjoy mediums that I didn't like before.
She was always so quick to send us feedback and was actually nice and helpful about it.
She's very kind. She gives clear constructive criticism and feedback that helped me understand how to improve my artwork. She taught us new concepts first by explaining them in a slide. Then we practiced them the rest of the class. She's always there in class if you have any questions for her to clarify. She's straightforward about what is due.
She was a great professor, she was very understanding, and is very good with communication. Would recommend this class
Professor Tidy-Coyle gives great critiques. I was able to improve a lot in her class because she always made it clear what I was doing well and what I needed to work on.
Professor Mary's teaching style is clear and direct to the point. If you are tackling a new topic, she will provide a few PowerPoint slides to give you an idea of what you're about to do-which I like!
This proffesor has a good balance of amazing and strict teachings. Everything is published through the course so nothing is suprising but be prepared.
There are a lot of lectures in the class, but most of them aren't long and the class will end before the scheduled end of class. The class is straight to the point; as long as you show up and pay some attention, you'll pass. All the assignments are relatively easy, and the feedback received on the few short essays is really good.
This class is pretty fast paced and rigorous but learning to work with ink, watercolor, gouache, and acrylic was all a lot of fun. However, new techniques and mediums and introduced through powerpoint slides so you might have a rough time if you are used to teachers giving demos. Mary gives great feedback during class critiques though!
Clear grading criteria, gives good feedback on assignments, also being very generous with late work.
Very easy going professor, which made the class even better! Just remember that end of the year portfolio, so keep on top of your weekly homework. Very accessible about advice on things one can be struggling with in the coursework. She gives great feedback and encourages a culture of respectful critiques which makes the class more enjoyable.
great lecture notes and communication
Overall, this was a very easy and simple class. I did it over the summer, so it was 8 weeks instead of the standard 16 weeks. But it was very manageable and didn't feel accelerated at all. Prof. Tidy-Coyle gives great feedback and I appreciate her use of PowerPoint rather than forcing students to buy a book.
Expectations are made early on. Very clear on requirements for each assignment and does give helpful feedback for improvement. It's an overall easy class but you do have to read a few power points, links, watch a few videos and pay attention to deadlines. I don't understand art very well but if you try and answer the prompt, you will be fine.
The course design with lots of assignments but the professor was nice. Try to do the assignment otherwise, you will live the points, she is helpful in responding quickly.
The class contents are well arranged, and there is a quiz for each chapter, completing quizzes help to understand contents better as quizzes are well related to chapters. I would recommend this course to all.
A great professor. Very easy class. She gives good feedback and allows for growth. Pay attention to deadlines.
This class wasn't too difficult but was also challenging in the right way. Showing up to class, putting in the effort, and completing homework are crucial getting a good grade.
Mary Tidy-Coyle is knowledgeable in this field of study and is professional in instruction and answering questions. She is extremely prompt with grades and stays right in line with her syllabus.
Great class for non art majors. I developed good time management, a higher attention to detail, and became overall more confident. Professor was always very clear with instructions and more than willing to provide in-depth feedback on top of critique when I asked. keep in mind that out of class work time will be a few hours if your doing it right.
This is a super easy class that will get you your art credit. I'm not artist in any way but Mary is a great professor and will make sure you understand the instructions. Participations points are given for every class. You will only get homework assigned before the weekend and are expected to turn it in the next class period.
Professor Tidy-Coyle challenges you to perform your best and to problem-solve. She is very supportive and always ready to help and encourage. Her courses are great learning experiences.
Professor Tidy-Coyle gives great critiques and is very knowledgeable about art and art history. She is always clear about assignments and expectations and lets you know during critiques what you're doing well and what could be improved. Attendance and homework are a big part of your grade.
Take prof. Mary if you'd like to improve your artistic skills or want to start doing art and don't know how to. She is an AMAZING art professor. There's an assignment every week that will be critiqued in class, so be prepared to make time for this course. She is not a tough grader but she does have fair expectations. Flexible and caring.
This course was fun and engaging. The instructor gave a well-rounded course and great feedback. We did daily group critiques which allowed everyone to view one another's work in a positive environment. I would suggest this instructor because they were helpful and graded you based on your personal growth!
Professor Tidy-Coyle is an amazing professor! Her class is fun and the assignments/homework given can really help your drawing improve. As long as you show up to class and do your assignments, you should have a pretty good grade.
Great teacher, very knowledgable, helpful critic. lots of homework though.
Mary has a very sweet and easygoing personality. Although I don't recommend beginners in art take this class, it's all learned by PowerPoint and not so much direct teaching. If you don't already have art experience, this is. Not the class for you. If you have experience in art this is a good class to improve skill but not to learn from scratch.
Professor Mary is very knowledgeable about art and is super chill, nice, and understanding! There's lots of homework so be prepared!
She is one of the best professors I have ever had, she will motivate you with your work and will guarantee you pass her class. Most of her classes lasted 30 minutes and only gave out 3 or 4 essay assignments throughout the semester. As long as you show up and pay attention you will pass her course.
As long as you communicate with this professor and do your work you will pass this class.
Really laid back professor that seems to value growth over anything. Gives clear feedback on assignments and very welcoming to hearing opinions.
She uses lecture notes to prepare us for tests and quizzes that we knew of before hand. This is very helpful. For kids who aren't doin as well, she offers extra credit assignments like essays about certain arts. She once handed us a study guide for a test which helped me get a good grade. The test was over remembering artist names and paintings.
Material was presented well and in an understandable way. Content was very interesting and feedback was very helpful.
She is a great teacher. The class is based on more lectures and quizzes every week. The quizzes are easy if you review her slides and understand the topic. There is not much prep before every class other than looking over the slides so that you aren't lost as she teaches. The classwork is durable. Very understanding with emergencies and classwork.
This professor was a very good one and I can say that I would definitely take her class again. The final exam is just a like the previous quizzes that you take throughout the year.
She is a great teacher. You have homework every week. it is a pretty fast class as there is always some work that needs to be done. It is hard to catch up if you fall behind in this class but the teacher is pretty understanding and tries to work with you. She is nice and welcoming.
She is a very kind professor who wants to interact with her students. The class is super easy if you show up every day and do the work. She does a mixture of group work and lectures that cover the material very well. I would recommend this professor to anyone who is taking an art course.
Participation matters when it comes to critiques in order to get good grades and be on class in a timely manner. Really love her feedbacks and she is very nice to talk too.
Mary is an amazing teacher, she always fully explains each assignment thoroughly and has high expectations for her students. Every question you have will be answered! Amazing Teacher, Highly recommend!!!
Everything is already spelled out in the syllabus. You won't wonder what you'll be doing for the next 16 weeks. Homework every weekend, but she gives you the assignment early in the week to work on before the weekend AND it's in the syllabus. The final projects are LARGE and hard to work within a home environment, but challenging non-the-less.
She is very encouraging and brings good energy to the classroom. She pushes me to do my best and to try more and more each day, and she gives great feedback to help us all improve.
It was a good class, but there was a lot of work.
She is an amazing professor who's always eager to help! Lecture notes always covered absolutely everything that you would need to know, and the discussion questions were always interesting to think about. Overall coursework and expectations were easy to understand.
Mary is a wonderful professor. She cares about her students and is very understanding. She gives great feedback and constructive criticism. She also highlights what you're doing well and when you improve The homework is pretty time-consuming, but if you manage your time well, it's not so bad.
Amazing Professor! She is super accommodating, funny person, patient, and genuinely helps her students improve. I will say it's a fast pace class but if you want to see drastic improvements then I would recommend this class! She would often remind everyone what to do for homework and lets everyone know what to prepare for the next class meeting.
This professor brought a great energy to the classroom. I am a buisness major, I have zero interest in art, I was not looking forward to this class. That being said, Professor Tidy-Coyle made the class interesting. I feel like her interactive teaching method helped me retain the information better than traditional lecturing.
I would recommend Professor Tidy-Coyle. She is very lenient in my opinion and helps you if you need help with anything. The course is easy to pass, all you have to do is show up, participate, and complete your assignments and you should pass easily. She gives very good feedback on all of the assignments she gives. She is an awesome professor.
Mary is wonderful. She treated us all wonderfully and she made the class interesting and engaging. Her teaching was always constructive and well put together. And she was always more than willing to answer questions that didn't have to do with the current homework when I wanted to know how to do things for another project.
She is an amazing teacher. Always so happy to help. Very funny and gives great critque on your artwork for improvement.
Ms. Tidy-Coyle is a great, down to earth teacher! I had lots of homework for this class but that is due to the course work. Ms. Tidy-Coyle is understands the difficulty of art majors and encouraged us to keep giving it our all. I would defiantly recommend Ms. Tidy-Coyle if your looking for a genuinely good teacher that doesn't slack off.
I had a lot of fun with this class! Mary's a really funny teacher but she knows her stuff! Super nice and patient but also a great critic! Always knows how to push you in the right direction. Homework was weekly a bit demanding at times. Overall, a very enjoyable class. Be aware attendance matters as does participation during the portfolio reviews!
Loved this class! Mary's super funny but seriously knows her stuff. Kind, patient, but a great critic too! She really knows how to push people in the right direction. There's homework every week which was a bit demanding at times. Overall though, a great experience! Just be aware: attendance matters as does participation in portfolio reviews.
Mary is an outstanding art teacher who prioritizes both improvement and personal growth. Her insightful critiques cater to each student's needs, reflecting her genuine concern for everyone's artistic journey. Undoubtedly, she ranks among the finest professors I've encountered.
Mary is an excellent teacher who provides insightful critiques on students' artwork. She also is very laid-back to completing paintings, prioritizing genuine learning over just assignment submission.
Prof. Tidy-Coyle was an excellent teacher for my figure drawing class despite having to pick up the class partway through the semester. Gives helpful feedback.
Love Mary. Mary is an amazing teacher, and my art skills have progessed significantly in her classes.
The best class in nwacc!! Love the teacher she knows how to explain very well and is so nice!! Would love to take all her classes in nwacc!! The best!!
Ms. Tidy-Coyle is the best teacher I've ever had. She praises your strengths first and then tells you exactly what you can do next time to improve your artwork. She's kind, funny, and treats every one of her students with the same amount of respect regardless of skill level. I would take her class again in a heartbeat.
Was a fun class to take! I recommend taking this class, it isn't very difficult and the teacher is very fun. There are extra credit opportunities. Just show up and it is an easy class!
My biggest advice is don't wait til the last second for your portfolio and attend classes. Mary gives you a great overview of art fundamentals and even going into figure drawing. It may seem like a lot of work, but your art will improve so fast and it will make you a better artist.
This class is a easy you do in class work with your table group. You learn about different types of art from different time periods. You get a piece of paper with questions you have to answer from the notes that you will do in class.
Very clear with instructions, gives good feedback.
Professor Tidy-Coyle is a great professor and you can clearly see that she truly enjoys art! The lectures/notes she give are long but very informative. I loved learning about the history of art throughout time!!
Very kind, helpful, and willing to work with students. Also provides very clear instructions for each assignment while grading very fair and gives plenty of feedback on any writing assignments.
Prof. Tidy-Coyle is one the most laid back teacher, she gives good feedback on your assignments and helps you to become a better artist. Id take her class again!
Super nice and understanding, grades fairly.
Great class for students with limited knowledge of the art.
Professor Tidy-Coyle is very kind, and you can tell she cares deeply about this class and the subject of art! She is very knowledgeable, and I learned a lot from her. She is very good at responding quickly to emails. And all of the homework and quizzes were easy to understand and follow. I would recommend this course and this professor!! :)
She was nice and answered questions when needed.
Very kind! She gives great feedback as well.
ARHS1003 was an easy class if you read the given power points and completed all assignments on time. All of the homework and quizzes were easy to understand and follow. I would recommend this course and this professor.
Professor Mary Tidy-Coyle's passion for art shows in her teaching an discussions. She is approachable and available when needed and makes learning of different art eras and artists exciting. Assignments are straight forward and tests are easy as long as you read the lectures. Id recommend this class to anyone.
You need to take her class!
Professor Tidy-Coyle makes this art history class engaging. The assignments are straightforward, and tests are manageable if you attend class and use resources like unstuck study ai. Overall, a great option for expanding your art knowledge.
This professor is inclusive and respectful toward students. Her teaching style is inspirational.
She is very nice and helpful. I enjoyed her class!
Gives good feedback on essays and gives clear instructions.
Very fun teacher to take. Just do your work and show up. you'll have no problem if you do those. she is also very understanding if you happen to miss a class day or struggle to finish your work.
She was a very good professor and gave good feedback/ help.
This was a great class and the professor was awesome! She is very helpful and gives great feedback. She always communicated what was expected. Everything about this class was great!
Ms. Mary Tidy-Coyle is a wonderful professor. She is very strict about attendance, but for good reason. When she interacts with students she treats us like adults and not students, she acknowledges the individual. gives very good word critique if you know how to apply it. if it were up to me I would have her for every semester.
Ms.Mary treats her students as if they were adults and not "her students", she sees the individual and I respect that. She is a very reasonable person just make sure to be quite during a critique or you will be in trouble! She cares and that is the most important thing to me.
This professor was one of my favorites! She was quick to respond to emails and gave very detailed and easy to understand assignment descriptions. I would definitely take this class again if I had the chance to.
Very fun professor to take! She is very understanding and kind! Just do your work and show up, easy class.
Mary is a good teacher. She gives good feedback and is very understanding. Do your work on time and you won't have any problems.
I took Painting 2 with Mary, an advanced painting class. Although this is advanced, I did not feel super pressured to over-achieve and I still gave it my best with each piece created. She gives very helpful tips during critiques, as well as artist recommendations for inspiration. Would definitely take a class with her again!
Class was very nice, just wish we had more time to complete paintings. Expect to be pushed to your limits :)
In general, I did really like this class, but the workload was immense. Being a full-time student, balancing the workload was very tricky, but it was doable. During our critiques, Mary was very helpful in providing feedback while we discussed our paintings.
Just do the work and go to class easy win.
Do the work and show up easy win.
Great class that gives a diverse development of studio art skills. Homework weekly but some will be finishing in class assignments. As long as you put effort in to your assignments you will do well.
I highly recommend Mary Tidy-Coyle as an art teacher. She's an absolute rockstar at helping students grow in the art world, even if they're not majoring in it. Her feedback is incredibly valuable, and she's incredibly passionate about her work. She's going to take your artistic vision and make it shine!
Good course with a really nice teacher. A lot of work at home regularly and in class lectures. I think communication was a bit of a struggle with deadlines and in class vs out of class work. I learned a lot and i think this is a good art class for anyone at any stage really its very inclusive to the different levels of artists.
The professor demonstrates understanding in this course. If you're a little confused about what you're supposed to do with certain assignments, she doesn't mind giving examples or just explaining it in another way. Or if you're stuck on (drawing, painting, printing, etc.), she'll show you how to do it. Overall, she makes this course fun to take.
Future Students, this class requires you to be creative, express your art abilities for the class and the subject. The instructor will inform you of the basics of art and then give you a prompt and then you will have to execute said prompt. The instructor expects the students to be on time and use the knowledge you use in and out of class.
She was great! Gave great feedback on all projects, homework every Thursday but allowed time for hw over the weekend. I feel like I really improved over this class and learned a lot!
This professor obviously cared about her students and does a great job of communicating. She responds to her emails quickly and gives grace for late work, even if you don't always let her know ahead of time. This course can get boring, but she keeps the work light and gives you plenty of time to get it done.
There is a lot of homework for the Oil Painting 1 class, but she does not take points off if you bring it in late. She's very understanding that people have a lot going on outside of class, her main goal really did seem to be getting people interested in painting. The class overall was pretty fun honestly
This professor demonstrated thorough knowledge of the course content. Teaching style and format were consistent. There was a lot of homework, but sufficient time was given to complete each assignment given good time management. Helpful feedback was given. This professor truly cares about the students' success in the class and development of skills.
I took this course online and I found the material very easy to understand. Ms.Tidy-Coyle was easy to get in touch with and answered all my emails very quickly. The amount of work is manageable and doesn't require a lot of time to complete with the exception of the writing assignments. I would definitely recommend taking this class.
She's very straightforward, and honest. All classwork/expectations are stated in the syllabus, and discussed in the beginning of the semester. As long as you come to class, do the work, and don't procrastinate, you'll be fine.
Format and homework were consistent. There was a lot of homework but enough time and good feedback were given for each assignment.
There are lectures at the beginning of class. If returning from a weekend the beginning of class is dedicated to critiques of the assigned artwork. Getting a perfect grade is difficult to attain. Which means even the best work has room for improvement. Overall, you do see your progress as the semester advances. Her classes are positive challenges.
Mary is very laid-back and easy-going. She gives good feedback and helps when needed. She is available outside of class and understands if something goes wrong.
You really do see your progression which is satisfying. I really enjoyed this professor because she is respectful and gives you honest feedback that isn't sugarcoated. She teaches in a way that is extremely easy to understand. I am pleased with my progression and have learned skills that I will carry with me for life. Thank you for being you!
Mary Tidy-Coyle is known for her exceptional understanding and caring nature, making her lectures both engaging and insightful. Students appreciate her warm approach, which creates a welcoming learning environment. Her ability to connect with learners enhances their understanding and enjoyment of the material, making each session memorable!
I absolutely adore Mary. She's very responsive to any issues. Clear and concise direction as well as one on one feedback.
Mary is truly an incredible instructor in my opinion. It is super easy to reach out to her if you are having trouble understanding the work or if you want feedback on how to improve. Honestly love how she teaches us how to draw at a large scale because it is super helpful and allows one to appreciate the details that go into large works.
This teacher has high expectations and will encourage you to do your best work. Her feedback is very thorough and helpful. The class was challenging, but very enjoyable.
Very professional who cares a lot about her students and work. Always gives great feedback to elevate your painting skills
Mary is really fun to have as a professor. She gives good feedback and encourages you to trust yourself as an artist. I learned how to paint with oil paint and I've become a better artist after taking her class. I highly recommend her to any students wanting to take a painting course at NWACC.
This was an amazing class to take. It taught me a lot about art that I didn't ever really pay attention too. This class does have a quite a few writing assignments, but they're not too long and really help to get you thinking about the deeper meanings within art while exploring different styles. Overall, I really enjoyed learning about art.
I absolutely love taking classes with Mary. She truly inspired me to pursue painting and an art degree, and I couldn't be more happy. I've already taken two of her classes and am signed up for a third. She creates an environment that makes learning so enjoyable. I'm happy to have had her as a professor!
She is wonderful.
I taken Mary's Painting I class. She truly helped me understood the depths of painting despite being tough, I was proud seeing my work grow along the semester and I am very glad to have her as my professor.
I really enjoyed her class and it's very easy to pass. She teaches the material very clearly and gives very good feedback on any drawing you do so you know where you can improve. She's able to give good feedback on students no matter how long they've been drawing.
It's a challenging but enjoyable course. She graded fairly and gave honest and kind feedback while pushing me to do better.
mary is a really awesome professor! a lot oof the painting techniques you kind of teach yourself, and there is painting assignments every single weekend. also make sure to actually start your final painting earlier than later!! I would definitely take her again
She was organized, gave small lectures, and allowed us to work in class and ask questions when needed. She would reexplain essential details to make sure we understood the material well.
To be honest I have had poor experiences with art teachers in the past. She was not one of those cases. She actually provides feedback, helps understand the fundamental's, and provides helpful tips on the subjects.
She is very understanding, and will communicate with you on a timely manner.
This class is a great professional development opportunity. You will be overwhelmed with the amount of work you are churning through, but you will see the reasons and progress in the end! She is especially good at making sure everyone gets something out of the class, even if they are just taking as a credit requirement! I would recommend!
She is flexible with everything but also provides valuable feedback. In just four months, I learned many different techniques and experienced new things, like live figure painting, which makes you feel like an artist and improves your attention to detail and observational skills.
She's a good professor! Really understanding and caring. She's also funny and makes jokes during critiques.
She is very kind and funny. Gives good feedback during critiques. I would take any class of hers.
I really enjoyed my semester in Drawing 1, and my drawing skills improved exponentially. I would love to take another class taught by her, and am hoping to get into her one of her painting classes in the Spring.
They often assigned some work that wasn't difficult and pretty easy to complete. I had a good experience with the class and the teacher, and I would recommend again!
Mary Tidey-Coyle is an amazing, caring, and knowledgeable instructor. Her feedback is constant and helpful, and she truly supports your growth as an artist. She's understanding with accommodations and life events. The only downside is material costs. Highly recommend her classes.
She was great! It's clear she knows a lot about art history, and is great at fostering critical discussions among the class. I will say there were a lot of essays. Be prepared for some big ones (750+ words) but it was overall an easy enough class.
Professor Mary Tidy-Coyle is a great teacher, she provides insight on assignments both before and after you submit. She is clear with her communication, and answers promptly. As a student that was online exclusively, she made it easy to understand her material with an extensive yet comprehensive slideshow on the concepts we've been learning.
Amazing professor, clear feedback and prompt communication allowed a great learning experience.
Professor Mary is an amazing instructor. Attendance in this class DOES MATTERS which makes sense considering it's a drawing class. We typically had an in-class assignment twice a week graded on participation and an out-of-class assignment assigned. The final takes time so give yourself time to do it. You can tell she cares about our success!
The teacher was nice, caring, and respectful. She was a fun person to have in class. Class participation is necessary; if you miss a day, it will be hard to make it up. But fun class nonetheless.
This teacher is amazing! She helped the class with different techniques and different sections of drawing. I would recommend it to people who love art. :)
Respectful and professional. She knows a lot about the subject she's teaching, and she provides useful feedback/tips throughout assignments. There were a lot of assignments in the course and keeping up was a bit difficult at times, however it was still an enjoyable course and I learned a lot by taking it.
Mary is a wonderful and caring teacher. She explained everything clearly and I always knew what was expected of me when it came to projects. I felt that she graded fairly and was willing to give more time if you approached her about it. I have taken another of her classes, and I enjoyed this one just as much.
She clearly knows what she is teaching students and gives good feedback to all regardless of skill or output. There is a lot of paintings to go through, but it does help your skill develop faster. A little scary doing so much especially if you haven't worked with oil or any kind of paint, and it does get expensive for those who pay out of pocket.
Professor Tidy-Coyle is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She's passionate, supportive, and truly cares about her students' growth. Her feedback is clear and encouraging, and she's incredibly understanding when life gets overwhelming. I'm grateful to have taken her class.
Interested in students learning. Uses her knowledge of the subject to make you a better artist.
Mary was a great teacher. There is a lot of painting (at least one per week, sometimes two), but if you need direction in your artistic style, then Mary's Painting II class is the place for you.
She would always answer questions and provide clarification. She was often supportive and encouraging. Her instructions were often easy to understand.
Mrs. Tidy-Coyle is an awesome professor! Her assignment descriptions and grading rubrics are crystal clear. She knows her stuff well and is passionate about it. Her classes are structured, and the time spent there is well-managed. She is available to help her students with anything outside of class time. Overall, laid back and easy to work with.
Mary Coyle, is a great teacher who grades you base off of your progress and ability to learn the material. She gives example to inspire your work and will always check in on your progress.
