Dr. Tucker is a very nice person, but I think she's more at home teaching advanced classes. She gets kinda frustrated when people don't catch on right away. Her class is hardly chemistry for dummies, but its still worthwhile.
DON'T wear flip-flops if you have her for your lab professor! She kicked half our class out of lab.
ihtought she was a good teacher, and she offers alot of extra credit. i recommend her
She is very unhelpfull...dont take her class
She is a nice teacher, but she gets side-tracked a lot during class. She loves to tell stories that have nothing to do with class.the class is pretty easy, take the lab it helps alot. She changes her mind a lot,so be sure to have your homework done early cause she might decide she wants it a day early
Tests are unreasonably difficult, and there's never enough time to finish them. To challenge students is fine, but to make the class impossible is unacceptable.
She is an alright teacher, but very unclear, class is almost impossible, taking the lab and doing good in it is the only chance you have of passing the class, take it under anyone else if possible or you will probably be taking it again.
By far the worst teacher to have for a entry level chem class. She might know her stuff but she can't teach it to you. She also likes to make fun of people who ask questions or give them a smart A** reply. Don't waste your time in this class with her get a better prof!
Definitely the worst teacher I have had to date... She cannot explain the material, her tests are ridiculous, and she has no patience for questions from students. The one thing she is good at is making you feel stupid!

This is the worst teacher i have had overall. She cant explain the material. She cant use the AV equiptment, and just shows powerpoint slides without explaining them or giving you time to copy them. Take another prof. over her anyday. Nice lady though.
This class is very very hard. almost impossible to pass without a lab. Tests are extremely hard but she will curve them. She offers extra credit which is nice.
She SUCKS.All she does is get side tracked and tell stories that do not relate at all to what we are learning. She doesn't teach at all-just says a few things about something and switches to the next chapter.I would never take her class again
If you screw up on a lab dont ask her for help it is better to start over twenty times than it is to get made fun of the rest of the semester. She is very discriminate against guys. if you have balls she hates you.
I hated this woman! I'm not a science person to begin with...but she was so dang hard!! Never take her class!
She talks to much about stuff not related to the class. She goes through the slides too quickly so u cant write down notes. She doesnt use blackborad so u have to email her about your grade. in order to pass you have to read the chapter and take notes and highlight in your book during lectures.
not a good "teacher"...yeah she told us what to study but never helped us at all...refused to help outside of class....asked to see my grade once and she replied with "ummm..nope"
She goes extremely too quick in her lectures. She has a test with 40 questions covering 5 chapters and does not tell you what to study. She finishes the entire book in one semester. You just have to do a lot, a lot, a lot of outside studying to do well in that class.
This teacher is horrible. She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She doesn't explain anything and only reads off her slides, which she doesn't give you time to copy and doesn't post on blackboard. Take another professor.
Not a good lab instructor at all. If you ask a question and she doesn't understand it, she'll look at you like you're stupid and tell you she doesn't understand and you need to ask her in a different way. Grading is not explained; she'll just make an X through what you did wrong, but won't tell you unless you go and talk to her which isn't easy.
Went very fast off of notes, straight out of book. Nothing she taught was on the exam. She always gets off subject talking about her perm and her kids.
Very unhelpful. Only read from powerpoint slides which were word for word from text. Very little interest in students. I emailed her with a question and she wouldn't answer it; told me to go to Academic Skills.
Absolutely horrible lab instructor. She makes you feel like a dumbass. She doesn't explain the material very well and spends most of the time talking about how succesful her sons are!
Lab is challenging but she teaches it very well. Don't know why everyone's so upset about the difficulty. Welcome to college. Definately Recommend her.
She doesn't make any sense and doesn't know how to teach. She makes u feel stupid if u ask a question and never fully answers your questions. She asks questions on the test that were never discussed in class. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! She is the worst teacher I have ever had!
The absolute worst teacher I have ever had. She makes you feel stupid when you ask a question and then she doesn't even help you to get the answer. She never emails you back re any questions you have either. RUN AWAY FROM THIS TEACHER SHE IS HORRIBLE!!
Overall, this class is difficult, but she pushes you to think on your own. She doesn't help with questions or homework unless she thinks it is difficult. If you know what you are doing, you can get an A. Keep up on the reading and do the extra problems in the book!
She is the WORST "teacher" EVER. i think a monkey could do it better. i dreaded going to her class. she is very unhelpful and one of teh most boring people i have ever met. i felt like inflicting pain upon myself after class. i definately recomend another professor besides this terreble woman. STAY AWAY!!!!
Horrible professor! She doesn't explain the material her lectures are just power points from the book. She is boring and doesn't help students at all. Unless you already know all of the material I would stay away!
I would not recommend Dr. Tucker. I had A's on all tests until (no thanks to her) and recieved a low grade on the one she had to cram in before the final. I spent the most time working on this test than the others combined. She expects you to know material that is not in lecture or the book. You will not learn the material or succeed in the class
She will not answer your questions. She laughs at you if you ask her a question about the homework. Her tests are extremely hard. She talks more about her life and her family than she does chemistry. She knowingly will have harder tests and homework than other professors. 60% of my class dropped half way through the semester. I wish I would have.
She is a nice person but will laugh in your face, she will not fully answer questions, she accuses you of cheating when you and you assigned partner have similar answers. She talks about things we didn't come to lab to talk about such as her family and life. This lab was dreadful, but she seemed like a nice lady outside of chemistry.
I don't know why people think Dr. Tucker is a bad professor. If you read the textbook and understand the material, 261 is a breeze. If you have questions though I would recommend asking a different professor because she will talk to you for 15 minutes about life/her family/flowers, etc.
HORRIBLE i took it online & read all the chapters and did all the HW but the tests were insane you pretty much have to teach yourself B/c she wouldn't return any e-mails so you couldn't get help if you tried she did nothing but post HW no interaction at all it was the worst class I have ever taken and I just graduated so Ive taken a lot
She is honestly the worst teacher I have ever had. She doesn't explain anything and assumes you know everything.
Not Recommended. She assumes you know the material, and your life revolves around the study of chemistry. Stands behind the computer and clicks through the slideshow very quickly with minimal explanation.
I'm currently in her class and am struggling greatly. She is very difficult to understand and moves way too fast. It seems like she is racing to get through the entire book just so she can check off that she covered the material. Not helpful to me at all. :(
Dr. Tucker is VERY HELPFUL! She is not horrible. People who think that probably just do not get Chem at all. That's their own fault.
I would not recommend taking her if you have not had chem. 2 in high school. While she is helpful if you ask questions or go to her office, she speeds through powerpoints like there is no tomorrow. Tests are hard but over the homework. Very good lab instructor, not as good at lecture.
She moves quickly through her PowerPoints and leaves some topics to be understood through prior knowledge and textbook reading. If you've had prior chemistry, passing the class is a lot easier in her class. Reading the textbook would help a lot more.
Dr. Tucker is a great chemistry teacher! The new concepts that were presented were explained until they were understood, she would put the power points online before the lecture and its recommended to read the chapters. The homework that was assigned is harder than the tests by far. Its not an intro to Chem course, be comfortable with the basics.
Dr. Tucker was definitely not my best instructor this past semester. I made it out with a 'C' by the skin of my teeth. I have no doubt that she is a great chemist, but teaching is not the profession for her. The class was anything but clear.
Does not teach well just quickly goes through slides. Does not explain steps from problems. Knows her stuff but not an educator, she may be beyond it all but she doesn't understand that her students are not. The Mastering Chemistry she assigns is trash and does not always go along with the lessons.
Chemistry isn't easy, so I think some of these reviews stem from frustration of the subject and not the professor. Dr. Tucker doesn't spoon feed you information, as she shouldn't since this is college. However, she is very helpful if you have questions. She loves chemistry, and she knows her stuff!
I took 3 years of chemistry in high school. Thought this class would be a breeze, & labs are. Her lectures suck. I understand everything beforehand & then she tries teaching. Not good at teaching. Asking for extra help isn't hard, but having her explain it is more confusing. The textbook is better. Her tests rarely match what you practice in class.
Not a good professor. During lecture she stands up there and reads the PowerPoint. Exams are mostly multiple choice, but they are very difficult. If it's clear that a majority of students don't understand the material, she just moves on without extra explanation.
She breezes through lecture slides with little explanation as to what you're doing. Test have tricky questions that she puts in there just to complicate things.
Very difficult class to take for such an entry level course. If you are looking for an easy A do not take this course. Lots of assignments!
Awful lectures. Expects you to learn by going back and reading powerpoint slides. She rarely explains the difficult topics in class and when she does she gets off topic.
The textbook itself isn't really needed, but the online access code is what you need for the assignments. I found the textbook very helpful for studying & easier to use than trying to read the online one. For the lectures, it's easier to print off the lecture slides and bring them with you than trying to copy her notes, she went through them quick.
Dr. Tucker was a great teacher to take if you have had a gen Chem class before, she was very funny, and enjoyed teaching, she did get of topic in lab at times, but overall a fun teacher.
She's a very friendly & intelligent lady. As a professor though, she expects a lot of you & is a little tough. Read the labs ahead of time, pay close attention to measurement labels, do & show all of your work for your pre & post labs, & record any useful information in your notebook (equations, pre & post lab questions, etc.)
Dr. Tucker is the epitome of sweet old grandma, she really cares for her students, but you must put forth some effort. If you've had any chemistry at all in high school this should be a breeze.
Flies through lecture. Very intelligent lady, but does not teach well. Responds to emails quickly and will always help you if you ask. If you don't put forth effort, you will fail.
Dr. Tucker is tough and makes you do a lot of work but it's worth it. She actually helps you understand is very accessible during her office hours if you need extra help. I feel like I'm actually learning, not just memorizing. She sticks to her schedule as well, so you know when exams will be.
Dr. Tucker is one of the few professors I feel actually cares. I know if I'm having trouble I can go to her and she'll do her best to help. It's finals season right now and she is even having a study session. Bless her heart.
Dr. Tucker will spend time with you outside of class to really make sure you understand the material. She is often in her office even if it is not office hours and is very willing to explain things. She is also actively explaining things in the lab she walks around the room and makes sure you are getting it.
Class is hard because she doesn't teach. If you haven't had Chemistry recently, or weren't good at it, definitely don't get her as your professor. Basically a self-teach class with her as your teacher.
If you only have had one year of high school chemistry, I would not recommend her as a professor. She goes through the lecture material quite quickly so those that do not have much chemistry experience, pay attention. You will have to teach yourself a lot of the material outside of class. However, her labs were good in my opinion.
Dr. Tucker doesn't normally teach this lab so some of the later labs she didn't know much about. Very laid back in lab and lets you do everything at your own pace but it available to answer questions.
Leaves out a bunch of stuff during lectures and includes those parts on the exams
Pros- She knows the answer if you have the right question. She's brief. Her tests are fair. She is old but was more willing to use updated technology than most proffesors. Knewton helped 1000% more than her lectures. Cons- if you are new to chem, RIP. She goes fast. She doesn't teach multiple ways, only her way. Makes her own tests. Every question.
She was very difficult to follow but understood the material. She did however help when you went to her office. Nice woman not a great teacher
I had Dr. Tucker for lab and lecture, and she always seemed to be able to relate the topic to real-life. She often goes off on tangents, and she's eager to talk to you and help. If you haven't had any chem experience, then I would caution you as she moves fast. She doesn't mess around, but she's very kind if you show that you're putting in effort.
Dr. Tucker is a nice lady, but she is not a good teacher at all. She mostly reads off the slides she posts on BB. It's just hard to understand concepts from her lectures, so most of the learning is done from the online hw. That being said, her tests are not too hard. If you have no chem background though, know that it may be hard to keep up.
Despite what everyone will tell you, if you're willing to work in her class, Tucker is nothing to be afraid of. She has high expectations and makes you actually learn the material but, by attending class, taking good notes and studying them, and completing the online Knewtons (awesome and replaces a textbook!), success is attainable.
I ended up transferring labs due to this woman... Every time I asked her a question she gave me the ugliest look and would say "you should know the answer to that" or "are you being serious? How do you not know how to calculate this?". I was new to chemistry and had no clue how to do things and she would make fun of me in front of the whole class.
BEYOND DISRESPECTFUL! I had never taken chem before. One response that I will never forget to one of my questions was, "You guys are going to be nurses! You can't get accepted into the nursing program if you're unintelligent, like this guy right here." I was completely shocked... Reported her to the chair of chemistry as soon as that class ended.
She's a great professor. She is always available to help. Chem 261 is an insanely hard class but she made it enjoyable. You have to work hard, obviously, but she is eager to explain concepts if you approach her. Very helpful. I think professors that teach hard courses get a bad rep but it's not their fault. The material is hard no matter what.
Rude. Expects you to know everything. I asked a serious question and she laughed at me. You basically learn on your own by watching lectures and a ton of knewton assignments. Tests arent too bad. Puts grades in all at once. Would not take again
Makes you feel dumb for not understanding something off the bat. You teach yourself with the lecture recordings and knewton, which isnt helpful. Then you go into class with questions that you have. If you ask her to explain something further, she beats around the bush. Seems like a nice person outside of class though.
Calls students stupid and expects you to know every prior to taking the class.
Dr. Tucker once called a guy stupid to his face and in front of my entire lab. She also laughed when people asked questions. She has the philosophy there are lots of dumb questions. She told us that on the first day. Shes a tough grader, a mean person, and not at all fit to teach. Avoid at costs. You will regret taking lecture or lab with her.
Dr Tuckers class is hard, but doable. Do the knewtons and pay attention to them, they are going to help you more than going over slides. She knows her class is hard so she makes the tests fair. Work hard and show you care and you'll be fine. An A is achievable even if you don't have a chem background as long as you're willing to work for it
Lab: wasn't necessarily difficult, she is just not kind. She'll laugh at you and just generally make you feel stupid. Not understanding at all, people had to miss or leave early for funerals, weddings and she did not care, offer to help, or let us make up the lab. She may be a nice person outside the classroom, but not a good teacher.
I didn't have Dr. Tucker for lab, so I don't know the experiences some students went through, but she wasn't an awful professor for me. She did go through things quickly, but that was because there was a lot of material. Her natural tendency is to laugh, so don't take that as a diss when she laughs after you ask a question. It is natural for her
Get off topic about her life and can rush through lectures. A lot of grading associated you got full credit or none on equation questions. If you are good in science or math you would understand her teaching best.
So rude to students. Laughs at you when you ask questions or don't know answers, etc. Gets off topic about her life, compares school when she was in school to now and how we have it so easy. Quiz during every lecture. Goes through material way too fast as if we already know it.
My experience with Dr. Tucker wasn't bad. I went into this class having taken three chem classes before so my review may be a bit more biased than others.A plus about taking her class is she grades fast. But I do wish she'd give us more feedback on our quizzes so we'd know what to do better. She does like to laugh so if that offends you be ready.
Gosh where do I start?! Dr. Tucker is so disrespectful to all of her students and says stuff like "it's really not that difficult." after asking the class to do math in their heads. She would also tell stories and waste 20-30mins of lecture time which we REALLY need for how hard this class is. She looks down on you & treats you inferior. just no.
I have a soft spot for her because she truly cares if students learn. She stayed late in lab when I messed up and rounded my grade up at the end of the year because she knew that I worked hard. She laughs a lot and can make you feel dumb sometimes. She mocked a student in lecture once. You have to work really hard but it's possible to succeed.
Dr. Tucker is a good person but not the best professor. She didn't properly utilize class time, and it always seemed disorganized. She expects you to know the material without teaching it yet. This class wouldn't be so difficult if she properly taught.
Dr. Tucker was not liked by many but I actually thought she was pretty good. She graded fast, and she was a tough but fair grader. Her lectures go through so many topics but its chemistry so there is a lot to cover. Her slides and knewton are helpful to review for the exams. Do plenty of practice problems and watch the organic chem tutor.
Didn't take her class but ran into her on campus. She was quite possibly the rudest person I have ever met- so rude that I took the time to find her name on the faculty page and write this warning. My 5 min interaction with this woman makes me terrified for what an entire semester would be like. Pray for her, don't take her class. Save yourself!
I didnt even have Tucker for class but she is so mean and horrible. I was eating my acai bowl in the chemistry lounge with my friends and she asked me what I was eating and then said that it didnt look healthy because of all the carbs in it She was like I could never eat that because I dont want to be fat. She made me feel so guilty for eating it.
I've taken chemistry classes in high school, but Dr Tucker was the only teacher that got me to successfully pass Chemistry. Many people are scared of her but she's very accessible (I've visited her office hours very frequently). Simply put, make the effort to work on the material and she will meet you more than halfway if you have any questions.
I took CHEM 261 Lecture and Lab with Dr Tucker, and she's a very good lab instructor. I feel like I was very lost early on, she provided a lot of feedback to my lab work and things turned around very quickly. I've been to her office hours every monday before lab, she will meet you more than halfway to help you understand what to do in the lab.
Has a bad reputation but is actually a good professor! If you try and aren't afraid to ask questions she'll help you out and make sure you get the material. Her exams are a little difficult but as long as you do practice problems you're fine. Final is a standardized test. Also she gives quizzes frequently that can easily hurt your grade!
While not highly rated by others she's honestly alright; tough but very fair. Accessible outside of class & mentions that if you need help to see her during office hours. She gives a good amount of review too (knewton) If she seems rude/mean, don't take it personally, she's honestly pretty nice & becomes more lighthearted when you talk w/ her more.
Overall, she's alright. She's a tough but fair grader, but will help if needed. Can seem rude but don't take it personally, talk to her more and maker her laugh and you'll see she does become more laid back. She's also understanding and overall a pretty good lab instructor, and will 100% help you if you're stuck/something is wrong.
She will help if you ask. Tone sounds rude, she's not. Lectures were boring, got off topic easily, BUT did have the slides posted on blackboard. You can go back and teach yourself. Labs were fun, not when taking the notes. Exams were multiple choice! Barley passed with minimal effort. Do the online work as you learn the topics. Overall it was fine.
