The Best English teacher you could ask for! SHE ROCKS!

She is a nice teacher. She grades papers hard but gives you enough time to do them. You have at least 1 rough draft. No tests. Overall an ok teacher.

Professor Welch is great. She's intelligent, humorous, and easy on the eyes to say the least. The class obviously requires some work, but nothing beyond one's capabilities.

Professor Welch is great. I would recommend her to anyone. She is one of the best teachers at Marshall, or anywhere for that matter. She is fun and easy to get along with. She really tries to get to know her students. A great teacher and a great person.

Great teacher. Really helped alot. Not just for her class, but helped me learn things I will need in the future. Really prepared me for ENG 102 and other paper writing classes.

I enjoyed the classroom meetings, however feedback and grades were not given back in a timely manner. For example, we got our second paper back the day we turned in our final. It was very hard to know her expectations and track your progress.

Just because she is a feminist, that doesn't mean she's a man-hater. She's a wonderful, intelligent teacher who isn't hard at all. Her approach to English is refreashing and interesting. You guys are just threatened by a woman who is independent, strong, and intelligent.

I had Ms Welch for 101 and absolutely loved her-she was the best! It was her first semester teaching-and you know alot of the guys in our class got really good grades too-some people just have to find an excuse! I still say shes the best English Teacher at Marshall! LOVED HER~

Mrs.Welch is a great teacher. She's so up to date with whats going on in the world. Always willing to help and talk. Very cool teacher...decent amount of work, but not hard. She's always cool to cool to help you...and discussions are always good.

do not use contractions, do not use contractions ! nice lady, but one mistake makes you have a C on your paper, got a B in the class though, shes cool though, will help u out

She's great! At first i was confused becuase it didnt seem like an english class, but i ended up loving it. the works not easy but shes a good professor and she'll always help and explain things as long as you ask.

She is very helpful but doesn't allow people to slack off and get by with a passing grade. She loves people who are involved in her class discussions. If you ask for help she will be more than happy to provide it. Take her!

Mrs.Welch does teach a weird type of english but it is a varity of topics. All you have to do is speak up and you will be fine. The whole comments about being a girl and you will be fine is not true, the guys in the class just do not speak up so that is their problem. She is very interesting!!!

Professor Welch is an excellent professor! She embraces traditional English in conjunction with popular culture, and encourages critical thinking in these areas. I highly reccomend this professor! She's not biased at all- it seems only the lazy claim this.

I think that she is a great teacher, She is very helpful and will do what ever she can to help you understand. Her class is great she deals more with pop culture. I loved her class. Highly recommended

i liked her more in 101. she wasnt very clear with a lot of assignments in 102 and we only had 2 weeks to work on our research project that was worth more than half of our grade. i got an A so it wasnt horrible..just know that youre not gonna be talking about English in this class!

Awesome teacher, people who say shes not are crazy, they were probably the lazy ones who didnt wanna do a thing and magically get an A. I would def. recommend her.

Professor Welch is a prime example of the intellect and passion exerted by women in the workforce. She embraces traditional English in conjunction with the other humanities topics to give a more well-rounded approach to college English. She is a brilliant women who is too intelligent for English 101, and I would highly recommend this professor!

If you go to class you will do fine. It only last about 30 min anyway, and you will get quiz and participation points for doing so. If you have questions she is very helpful and knows a lot about English. I would recommend her to anyone.

I liked the classes and she is always there to help you, it seemed that she was more interested in your opinion on papers then anything else, I would recommend her

The ironic part is most only people who did poorly report on their experience. I'm not the best student but I did just fine. Like any other class, you'll have to attend and do the homework. Prof. Welch prepared me for Eng 102, and even if I wouldn't have received an A (Which I DID), I would still reccomend her for new students. A is possible!

Prof. Welch is a good professor. Class is always out early and the work isn't that hard. Just make sure you do the readings she assigns because you will probably have a quiz over it. I think she does a good jon and tries to make class interesting! I would definately recommend her!!

She is a good teacher and she'll treat you fairly. This is someone I'd recommend. If you show up and perform well despite her quizzes this is an A or B class

She makes coursework interesting and challenging. A lot of it requires critical thinking and forming your own opinions, but you really will learn a lot.

Since when did encouraging analytical thought make one a bad teacher? We're in college, its going to be helpful to use our minds once in a while. Mrs. Welch is a great professor. She does a superb job of easing one into the realities of adulthood. She's super cute and nice. I would suggest her to anyone who is not looking for an academic handout.

She's really not a hard teacher. Not understanding? Just ask, she'll help. Don't try to get over on her, she's not stupid. Just attend class, do the homework, and do your best. She also likes to give pop quizzes. And by this, I mean POP, absolutely unexpectant.

She is a great teacher. She makes you think outside the box. She does assign readings and a lot of work,but if you do it then you will be okay. Coming to class is pretty important because you never know what you will miss. I would recommend her.

Mary Welch has resigned and on that day a gloom fell over the historic halls of the university, the lights dimmed within each classroom, the world seemed to shrink, the clouds settled in closer to the dreary hearts of the scholarly masses and the halo of hope surrounding the next generation of students slowly faded away with the sun.

She is a great teacher writings for class are short and are very easy to be motivated about. We had a prompt due on a day and most of the class came in and did not understand it so she spent the class helping us and postponed the due date she really makes me like english

She is a nice woman, with a wierd sense of humor. Her class isn't that difficult. All of her prompts are two pages, and you'll have papers in between those. She gives a few pop quizzes but as long as you read the material, you'll be fine.

Nice teacher. Great in class discussion. You do have homework about every class but its usually little stuff like read 6 pages. Topics for papers are controverisal and she helps out a lot if you ask.

This teacher is awesome. Explains everything very well. Mostly all you do is read and then she assigns around 4-5 prompts over the entire semester, which are no more than 3 pgs long. She has quizes on the readings, but they aren't hard if you read them, only 10 questions if that. I didn't do so well on most of them and I got an A. =)

Love her! She is very quirky, and a little on the weird side, but that makes her great :) Doesn't test, but there is a quiz on assigned reading just about every class. As long as you can read and interpret hidden meaning, you will do fine. There is a lot of reading, but nothing too boring or difficult. I would recommend taking anything from her.

Mary Welch is an amazing professor! Great in class discussions, easy homework, and fairly interesting reading assignments. Doesn?t take attendance but is necessary to do well in class. If you do your reading and come to class it?s easy and pretty enjoyable. MAN DOES SHE HAVE GREAT SHOES!!!

Loves participation-Speak up.Shes very liberal but hears you out and is openminded. Very quirky, knows her stuff. Theres a lot of politics looked at(but from an ENG perspective) She always looks cute and has great shoes. Class is tough- Attend every one and participate and you will get an A. Only wrote 2 papers, but did much hw!Overall, shes cool.

Very helpful and understanding if you participation is 40% of your grade show up and join in on discussion and you will do fine!By far the best English class I have ever had!!

Prof. Welch is a pretty good professor. She is pretty liberal, but enjoys to hear both sides of the story. She is not hard , she STRESSES participation, it is a huge prt of your grade. Just come to class and do the easy homework she assigns. Not to mention she is one Hot Professor!

Great person and teacher. The dynamic of the class is great, mostly discussion and short writing assignments. Only had a midterm and final. As long as you give a little bit of effort an participate in class, you should do fine. Very pretty, so not painful to watch as she lectures. Overall great class and teacher.

Loved her class. She makes the material super interesting and really encourages you to think. Instead of lecturing, she gets into discussions with students and the class is very relaxed. There is a lot of reading but the exams and papers aren't difficult at all.

Absolutely loved this class. She makes class enjoyable and relaxed. Loves opinions and open discussion. The class requires participation so you MUST go to class. Very open to new ideas and topics. Read the materials and participate in discussions and you will pass just fine. Will definitely take her class again.

Mary is one of the nation's top teachers!! She is very open minded and dedicated to your learning. You must attend class and do the work, but she does an outstanding job of making it crystal clear. This is college, you have to do the work. She can't hold your hand and do it for you . Thank Rayne

She is wonderful, uses a completely different teaching method. No tests, but you do a lot of reading, but it's not textbook reading, it's reading you can get into. I've been looking for more of her classes that I could take for my major. Very enjoyable and intelligent, learned a lot

She is super nice, and very helpful. You will read a lot in the class; but it is not boring stuff, it is stuff you can actually enjoy. She is also very open minded and likes hearing different thought and opnions on each novel.

Mrs. Welch is probably my favorite professor at Marshall. If I could take her for every English class I would. She is very passionate about what she does. She has a wonderful personality and will help you in any way.

She is an absolutely incredible instructor. She'll get you to look at novels from alternative perspectives and apply the analyses to life outside of the classroom, too, which makes the work feel more useful and meaningful. I'd definitely recommend taking her. She is always very helpful in the writing process. Her Feminist perspective is refreshing.

Texting the World is an awesome class at Marshall, and taught by an even better professor. The required readings are so fun to read, and the discussion in class is great! You will learn and expand your knowledge, and ability to critically think in this class. GO FOR IT! Professor Welch is just awesome.

The class was super easy. We read three books but I never finished them. The whole class is discussion so make sure to participate, but don't worry if you're shy. Towards the end of the year she lets you out extremely early. The discussions are really interesting.

She's a fair, kindhearted professor. There's a lot of class discussion, but she keeps them relevant and interesting to the students so that you always feel like you have some input. I enjoyed the class and would totally recommend her to anyone looking for an easy A!

Very chill, real, and nice

I only had her for FYS, which is a completely pointless class but she made it so much easier to tolerate. She is very interested in what her students have to say and is always willing to listen even if an opinion differs for her own. Was honestly very disappointed when this class ended, I would love to take a class of hers again!

I took her for FYS, so it was a pointless class. I RARELY showed up, missing weeks here and there. All of the work required was online, some quizzes were given in class. Overall, she was a great instructor when I was there. She was nice and we have discussions every class. Like I said, FYS, so it wasn't all that fun. I passed with an A.

I had Professor Welch for first year seminar. Unlike some seminar classes, her's was actually informative and useful. We talked about critical thinking skills that were actually beneficial to first year students. Even though it was a 90 minute class she rarely kept us past 45 minutes.

Welch is simply a wonderful professor. There's some reading involved (three books you have to buy), but nothing over the top.

Professor Welch is the best choice for FYS at MU. Her section is designed to be informative and actually provide students with relevant information. There are only 4 writing assignments, a midterm and final project for grades, so try your best, show up to class, and participate with the class and you'll learn something and pass.

If you do the essays you can pass. She grades pretty easily and class just consisted of discussions.

Had to choose 3 essays to do but they were not hard at all. Professor Welch is laid back and really nice! She does take attendance. She gave her final about 2 weeks early!

Great teacher. Very good teacher for FYS. Very laid back and does a good job of class discussion. You don't have to read all the handouts, just come to class, be active in class, and write the prompts and you will do fine.

Go to class, contribute to discussion, do the prompts and you'll be fine. Very laid back, awesome prof. would take again.

I got a lot more out of this than I expected for FYS. The entire class was spent discussing relevant and challenging topics in society. It was basically like an English class on argumentation and politics. She was overall great. Just participate. There were some long writing prompts but it was an awesome class.

Professor Welch was such a great FYS professor! She is very educated and I learned a lot, but the class was still very easy. She made us all feel as though our opinions mattered in the class, and I really appreciated that. There are very few assignments, and the only deadlines for them are midterm and the end of the semester. Take her class!!

I took this professor for FYS 100H. Extremely heavy discussion based, lots of group work. Topic was kind of boring, so I did not enjoy the class. Professor very engaging with discussion and very respectful. Lots of controversial issues discussed. Unclear instructions on assignments. I did not like the lack of expectations that the course had.

Dr. Welch was the best choice for FYS. Her class's foundation is based on the FYS final itself, so you are being well-prepared for the test. The class is laid-back and discussion-heavy versus work-heavy. She challenges sociology and philosophy with the discussions and truly teaches you to think. Valuable!

Professor Welch was an awesome choice for FYS. My fellow classmates were not so stellar, unfortunately. However, she was kind, smart, and very engaging. Participation really matters for this class. Her class was unique in that the midterm and the class material was geared towards preparing you for the FYS final (unlike some other FYS professors).

I absolutely loved this professor. When I signed up for the class I thought it was going to be straight politics and I was not very excited. However, it was an amazing class that really opened my mind to so many different topics. The grading is pretty easy too. Overall I loved her.

FYS is a class most people dont want to take but Mary Welch makes it enjoyable. Her class is based on discussion and there is only one project which is toward the end of the semester. The downside is that she doesnt answer emails very well. The class can also get very political.

Professor Welch's class is one of the easiest classes I've taken. As long as you show up and put some effort into the work, you'll pass. There is a group project at the end of the semester, but it is also easy to get a good grade on if you participate. The class is discussion based and we were usually let out 20-30 minutes early everyday.

FYS is an easy class as it is, but Professor Welch makes it even easier. The whole class is based around moral concepts and politics, which sounds like a recipe for debate, but it really wasn't. Easiest class.

Professor Welch is a great teacher. She is very caring of her students. She has a very positive attitude and treats her students with respect. Her class is a very safe environment to share your opinion in. There isn't too much work, you just got to pay attention during class and you will do just fine.
