I dont know what everyone's problem is with her. Our class had a great time. We didn't all get A's but we had a lot of fun! She was very patient and never snapped at us. You just need to show a little interest in her too.

Great teacher! Just don't give her a bad first impression. Otherwise, it will hurt you in the end.

great techer! genuinely cares about your success, lets you do rewrites, grades are fair if you work for them. a lot of reading in short time, but not unreasonable for class only once a week. very caring. i would take her again.

Some of these comments are false and obviously come from SLACKERS. The person that made a comment about not being an immigrant and still got a NC: just because you're white doesn't mean you speak and write perfect English because you OBVIOUSLY don't.You deserve that NC!! ****!

Professor Wilson is very helpful and approachable. She offers a bunch of extra credit and her lectures are clear and helpful.

She's very straightforward and I like that. She's a tough grader because she wants you to do your best. I've had to rewrite a few assignments, but she always gave me proper feedback so I understood my mistakes. What I like most about her is that unlike many professors, she actually knows what she's teaching. These negative ratings are wrong. -BL

She is a great teacher!She is funny and passionate about what she teaches. She is always helpful. Yes, there is a lot of work to be done in this class. But, as a teacher I would highly recommed her.

she's eccentric but that's a good thing because it's fun to watch what she does or say next. she can be funny. she allows rewrites for better grades. the pointers she gives for the tests really appear on the test--no surprises or trick questions. she's approachable and really nice.

These negative ratings are wrong. She is hard, but so are all the other sections of 100W. Blame the class, not the instructor. She teaches you exactly what's expected of you in the exams. Very straightforward. I'd recommend Dr. Wilson.

This teacher is a good professor. She tells you what to improve on, and her grading is fair. If you have problems she'll help you IF YOU ASK! I don't understand why people don't like her, she was great, kept the material enthusiastic, and gives great recommendation letters!

This teacher was great... One of the best teachers I have had in a long time. She takes the time to help if you ask... If you do the reading, H.W., and assignments, you should be able to walk away with at least a B. I ended up getting a B+ with little effort.

This is a great instructor if you want to learn how to write. She is very intelligent, and offers great advice. She will fail a paper to force you to re-write it. This is how she gets students to learn, and it works. I have never learned and retained so much about writing and communication. Not an easy A. Take this class if you want to learn.

Pretty good. I am in the Business world now...she helps you understand what they are really looking for in writing.

If you want to learn, take this class. If you are a hard working student, you should be able to walk away with at least a B. (with min. effort)

Dr. Wilson has a huge heart... A little goofy, which keeps lectures interesting. If you take her class make sure you choose a good team to work with because a large percentage of your grade is on group work. Would have had a B but went to a C because my group paper ended up being a 35/100!

DO NOT TAKE MARY WILSON'S CLASS if you don't want to learn anything and only care about getting your grubby little hands on a degree; because that's what you think you need to succeed in the world. Do not take her class if you have poor communication skills and don't want to improve them. You won't get a good grade. Otherwise, she's great.

She's "brutally" fair in grading. It's not like those inflated grades in many other classes at SJSU that you may get used to. I got an A, it's really worth it. Tips: be open for learning, work hard, be there on time, pay attention. Get bonus points for attendance. FYI, I'm an Asian that only came to US recently. You can get an A if you really want.

Gives very useful feedback on papers and helps improve your writing. Allows you to rewrite all assignments up to a B. Three essays, 30 pages total, you can make each essay as long as you want. Lets you pick the topic for the last essay. Gives extra credit for attendance. Difficult class but not as terrible as some make it out to be.

Pro: Outside essays reasonable 2 5 page essays from chapters in a sourcebook. Cons: Midterm/Final book based 1 essay per chapter including sourcebook. had to study 2-3 essays per chapter. This = 6-8 essays per midterm. She expected a lot of detail on them. Problem: lectures copied from book, should have been going over midterm essay topics instead.

Class: 3 essays total of 30 pages of writing. First 2 essays based on reading she selects, last is your choice. 2 peer edited drafts per essay prior to turning each one in. Problem: No professional input on essays until graded, could only rewrite an essay for a C+/B- grade. Grading: thorough but largely unfair (she does not like direct quotes).

All these complaints...yet she is a great teacher. She is very knowledgeable. If you aren't interested in going to college to be challenged or to learn anything, then don't take one of her classes. She dished out tons of extra credit for people who didn't put the effort in all semester. Including extra credit just for showing up!

Compared to most other classes/professors at SJSU, this class/prof. is tough. Memorize the textbook and you'll do well.

This class was based 100% on the textbooks. She tells you exactly what to memorize (which is a lot). She gives tons of extra credit/bonus pts. Spend a little extra time on this class and you will do well.

I love this teacher. Her tests or EXTREMELY hard. To pass you need to have all the info and dates memorized. Her essays aren't to bad and she lets you rewrite them which helps a lot. Her lectures are really interesting and she makes things easy to understand. Its really important to go to every class!

A lot of memorizing dates and names. Very hard grader. She is a no B.S kind of gal. Though she is hard, you actually learn... well maybe only me because I'm a hist major. If you do take her, go to her office hours, it really helps.

She is so hard!! but very nice and helpful. She gives extra credit if you attend class. Be ready to work your butt off

Her tests r impossible. She expects u 2 know the 5w's for each term onher study guides, but she allows you to use a notecard so its not too bad. go to every class for EC. if you take really REALLY really good notes no need for text, gives you all you need to know in lecture(**ONLY IF U NEVER DOZE OFF) but you do need the one with the documents.

She was light-hearted and nice all the time. Very helpful. She gave the whole class an extension on both papers and 2 different tests. As long as you keep up with the reading assignments and go to the lectures (which I thought were fun) you will do great in the class.

Class was ultra laid back. It was an evening class that met once a week for THREE HOURS. So lectures were sort of boring, since it is a critical thinking/history class. Talked about a lot of religions, and wrote a lot of response papers called ethical responses. We were allowed to rewrite all of our homework assignments, which was very helpful.

an easy going class. just be sure to do her exam review questions and be thorough on the exam. make sure to take plenty of notes in class and you wont need the textbook

She was really nice... She grades hard, but allows you to make things up she is entertaining and knows her stuff.

I really enjoyed her class. Its tough but she is very clear about expectations. She really helped me become a better public speaker. Highly recommend. All tests are open note so take good notes and you will be fine. Kinda quirky but she grows on you

Wilson is a good professor and a great lecturer. She really tries to make the information as easy to comprehend. Attending class is not mandatory but recommended. You can use one full sheet of paper on all exams which is very helpful! She's just very straight forward. If you take notes you will pass but she can be a hard grader.

Her lectures are kind of boring, so do not take any once a week classes. Fallow the syllabus and make sure you are caught up with it. The test are short essay questions and she gives the questions a week before the test. She also allows a sheet of hand-written notes. Her class is simple and not complicated.

Go to class, write everything she says. The test are really easy, she allows you to use a sheet of paper for notes. I think she was funny, she has a funny laugh. She gives a 15 minutes break. Bring food if you want. she uses an understandable vocabulary.

She's super knowledgeable about the subject and very thorough. A great teacher in my opinion! And she lets you use a page of notes on tests!

Very tough grader, but she is very helpful. Come to her office when you are stuck on papers, she will help you find sources (books, journal articles, etc). She will also give you ideas of what to improve on for your next papers. She is very hard, so be prepared. Turn in ALL assignments and do the rewrites, so you can be guaranteed a passing grade.

I really enjoyed this class. I think History is interesting and Professor Wilson made it really easy to follow along. If you go to class and take notes you won't have any problems passing. The tests are short essay only, but don't let that scare you she lets you use 2 pages of notes. I would take her again for 15B, but her section was already full

Professor Wilson was very helpful, extremeley approachbile. Took her for 100 W and first day of class I wanted to leave, but she was never discouraging, she is difficult but fair.

Anyone complaining about the difficulty of the class is correct; it is difficult. This is a class that teaches you how to write and let's be honest, most people don't know how to write well. She has high standards but is very consistent grader. People that get bad grades are the ones that don't understand what she's looking for, and they don't ask.

100W was definitely one of the more grueling classes I have ever taken, but overall I feel like I have become a better writer. As long as you do every assignment, you are guaranteed to pass. She makes this very clear at the beginning.

I really enjoyed her class, dont know why she has a low rating, she was very funny and i liked going to her class. attendence is key just showing up is 5 points, not alot of work at all its pretty spaced out. she talks and writes alot, but not boring . notes is key in her class but she makes it short and simple. highly recommend

List didn't show this course - HIST114 - but wish it had been 2 semesters. Lectures useful, terrific sense of humor, respects students and obviously enjoys teaching. Practical advice when asked. I dreaded group project, but it turned out to be a big help in understanding pretty complicated history. Prof much kinder than reviews seem to say. .

Professor Wilson is a tough but fair grader. The course is challenging, but she provides helpful feedback to improve your writing. Utilize unstuck ai and the free textbook - they were invaluable study aids that helped me succeed.
