Really great, go to class bc she adds a lot to the powerpoints she posts. the TAs are very helpful. both professor wolf and my TA always answered my email questions promptly. the books and handouts make the material more clear. tests arent too bad, but do study well for each of them
go to the classes b/c the ppts do not contain all of the material... she adds more while lecturing. read the books and you'll do well for the tests... the TAs are helpful when it comes to preparing for the tests and papers.
Terrible speaker. Always sounds unsure of what she's talking about. Won't have answers to students' questions in class. Powerpoint not used effectively. Just write down everything she says about the red terms; you'll get an A on the test. Use the book for essays. Pure memorization. Tests are not hard but they are long. TAs more helpful than her.
The class is boring like most lecture halls, Prof. Wolf tries to switch it up by having TAs read quotes. Powerpoints aren't thorough; you should come to class for in depth info. All powerpoints are posted online before class. Tests are pretty straightforward. All you need to do is know the red terms and write a decent essay to pass.
2 tests (all writing), 2 essays and a final. All of it is graded by your luck-of-the-draw TA. Wolf knows the material very well but has trouble conveying it. Class isn't really necessary except to learn why they think certain events are significant (which is needed for each test). Decent enough for completing your history requirement.
Lectures aren't too boring and you get red term information which is crucial for exams. Gives essays on exams ahead of time. 3 essays outside of test- only counts 2. TA is luck of the draw and are there to discuss other history points usually lightly touched in class. Overall, dry sense in humor but fun!
Pretty Good teacher. TA will grade the tests and essays. Class is kinda boring, know red terms and essay topics are given before test. I made a B+ in the class. Read the book and online reserves and you will do fine.
Class was boring. Powerpoints were available on WebCT, but not much content to them. Had to be in class to hear her elaborate. Three tests, three essays (only 2 count). TA grades everything, so it's really up to them. The class was boring and hard to pay attention to. But it was fairly easy. There's no reason not to take her.
You need to go to class b/c she adds tons of info to powerpoints that she posts needed to pass the exams. Exams are all writing, "defining" red terms' significance, & an essay. There are 2 exams, final exam, 2 papers on books, & small responses to readings. This is a heavy reading course. Lectures are boring, but she is nice. TAs grade everything.
DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!!!! she may know about history, but personally i think she is a crappy teacher. paying attention in class is hard since the lectures are so boring. As long as you know the red terms you will be fine.
She was boring, very boring; but she was a good teacher. She got her points across and as long as you pay attention just a little, especially to the red terms and read the chapters you will do fine.
she's rather boring to listen to, however she provides the precise information that you need for each test. when she defines the red terms, LISTEN TO HER AND WRITE DOWN WHAT SHE SAYS. they're for the test. be really thorough with the papers that you write. the tests are easy because she gives the exact information so you don't study superfluously.
She is the most boring teacher I've ever known. Her powerpoints have so little information on them that if you don't go to class and write down what she says word for word then you will fail the class. On the tests, all they look for is that you remember exactly what she said. The tests are all essay based and all the TAs grade ridiculously hard.
Excellent seminar teacher. Very thorough in her grading on the thesis, but fair, provides several chances to turn in the paper and return with corrections. Overall an excellent teacher. Would recommend to any history major needing a thesis class...plus you get to write about music, who doesn't have some interest in music somewhere?
Relatively easy class if you studied and knew the key terms she gave out. Her lectures are available online, but I recommend class attendance because she gives a lot of notes not included online
Hands down one of the best profs I've had. Her classes were really interesting and she was extremely helpful during my thesis writing process. Plus, she's a really cool person in general.
Boring. Doesn't even address wars, just the events leading up to them. She doesn't seem to know at times how to respond to legitimate questions. And quizzes require a lot of extra thinking and studying outside of the classroom.
She is nice and funny, but not the most interesting person to listen to. However, if you take her class be sure to know the red terms really well and depending on your TA you will make a good grade. There is a lot of reading in the class, and I would recommend doing as much as possible of it however, knowing the red key terms are most essential.
Stopped going to class because basically could just go to WebCT and look at all powerpoint slides. Only went to breakout sessions with TA and didn't find it useful. Midterm and final were essays...hate that part. Barely did the reading, seemed pointless.
She spoke really fast. It's important to get all of the information on the red terms in your notes. I hardly ever picked up the book for this class. You have 4 quizzes, 2 papers, a midterm, and a final. For the final and midterm, she gives you a list of possible essay questions ahead of time. The TA makes all the difference and I had a good one!
Dr. Wolf is an alright professor. She isn't there to spoon feed all of the info. If you go to class, take good notes, and study a little on your own, you should be able to pass it with little difficulty. The TAs grade a little differently. However they are there to improve you, not let it be easy.
Good lectures. Breakout groups important. She loves to make you write! All exams are essays and you have to write a couple of papers for the class.
Dr. Wolfe does very little grading, so it's all up to the T.A. that you get, really. She seems like she is definitely willing to help though. You don't have to go to class, but it helped me out a lot. Be prepared to read at least 2 books and write papers on them. The course required outside work that was unrelated to the class which was annoying.
This class was pretty hard. I wished I had gotten my history credit in high school through AP. Essay tests and a lot of supplementary reading of articles and novels.
Pretty easy class, she makes it pretty interesting although it is a big lecture room w/ 250-300 kids. Just know the red terms by quiz and test day. Tests are easy. She gives you a study guide a week b4 with all the red terms and the essay choices so you should have it pretty easy. You gotta write a couple papers for the class too, but they aren't t
Focuses not on wars, but major movements (progressive, civil rights, etc,). TA grades but extra credit and a chance to make up essay grade offered. Quizzes are easy if you know red terms (from book and lectures!) which are essential for doing well on the tests. Lots of writing, but worth it in exchange for an amazing professor. So, go to lectures!
She was dry and I couldn't follow lectures. Her tests were unreasonably specific and way too much work for time allowed. You MUST get a good TA to do well unless you plan to put in several hours a week
This was a very hard class and I would not recommend it for an introductory course. Lectures were boring and your grade depended on the TA, and they DO NOT all grade the same. The tests were extensive and you MUST read in order to make the connections needed to do well. You MUST know the red terms!
Good professor. The class is extremely interesting and she does a good job teaching. Very knowledgeable. Big fan of the Clash.
I loved her class, her lectures were interesting. Her exams are kind of hard, but if you study for it you should be fine. Grades are up to the TAs. I had a good TA, he graded fairly. Overall, I would recommend her class!
Good professor. Teaches US History from powerpoint with lowered lights, which is conducive to sleep. Focuses more on social movements than wars and events. Not a bad class, but the real learning takes place in breakout sessions with the TA.
Not the most interesting subject, but Dr. Wolf teaches it very well. She focuses more on the historical significance of events, which actually makes the class more relevant. My TA was Trae, and he was pretty fantastic. He graded everything, and wasn't unfair about it. Study the red terms in notes, and the tests shouldn't be too hard.
Going to class is pretty much pointless, she posts all of her power points online. But I also took this class in high school. She stumbled through some of the lectures, talked in circles, and had a lot of technical problems. Break out sessions are more helpful and Tim is an awesome TA! He will pre-grade your papers too!
Great for any upper level history. Really laid back and views you as a young adult, not a child. Places a lot of emphasis on the historical and cultural relevance of things, mvmts, etc. She also claims to be a former punk and ate thanksgiving dinner with G.G. Allin during the 80s at the Clermont Lounge. (if you dont know who G.G. is, look him up)
I'm not actually a huge fan of Dr. Wolf; I found her lectures really boring. She posts all her notes online, so going to class isn't really necessary. She's not a great test-maker; she expected A LOT from us on the midterm and final. I found them really hard. You write two papers. Make sure you get a good TA if you take her (Trae is really good)
Typical history teacher, boring as hell, absolutely unoriginal in everything she does. The TAs have more impact on your grade; they score everything, including your two big papers and all exam essays. The midterm and final are difficult, but the formats are explained ahead of time, so you can manage to do well if you work very hard.
She posts the powerpoints online after lecture and that helps with writing papers and studying for exams. She randomly takes attendance in class. As long as you keep up with the key terms and study hard for the midterm and final you'll do fine.
Dont take this. There is a ton of reading&writing,& although attendance isnt mandatory for lecture, she'll do random in class assignments. Advice:become best friends with your TA(they grade EVERYTHING)& MAKE THE RED TERMS YOUR LIFE(flashcards help). She posts her notes, but theyre skeletal so go to class & write down every word she says.
Good lecture style, tests were not easy, but straight forward. There are two major paper assignments, and she is not an easy grader. This class is not an easy A, but the amount of studying you do directly effects the grade you will get.
To be fair, I've always hated social studies and Wolf's class didn't change that. She's a good teacher, but your ultimate enjoyment of the class depends on your TA. Unfortunately, some of the TAs barely speak English and are very difficult to communicate with, but you don't have a choice who you get. As it is a mandatory class, I recommend her.
I hated this class so much. There was an unnecessary amount of group work. I learned nothing from this class and it was a waste of time. The final project due at the end of class was complete BS. She did not give an instruction or examples on what she wanted and expected us to complete it properly.
She lectures every single day. Our tests were essays we got in advance so that was nice but other than that it was very boring and had so many pointless assignments. The TAs were even fed up with the work.
Dr. Wolf thinks out of the box. The majority of the semester was spent in a role-playing historical game, from which I surprisingly learned a ton! There are zero tests but lots of papers, including the final. Dr. Wolf is hard to get hold of for questions, but a very understanding and likable teacher. Most interesting class I've ever taken!
Our class was a "flipped classroom" model. You don't need to pay attention to her lectures at all. She will tell you exactly what is on the test (literally, she gives a list of terms and essay questions). Kind of a lot of reading, and frequent quizzes over it (but they're easy). Lots of dumb little group activities in class but they're easy 100s.
Overall, not a terrible class but lectures are extremely boring and not helpful. You will do a lot of busy work and group projects which are annoying but easy 100s. Must go to class. A lot of reading and studying for tests takes a long time even though she gives a study guide. This class is not impossible but it is no way fun either.
Overall not a terrible class but not the best class i have ever taken. A lot of reading outside of class due to the "flipped classroom" model, and multiple quizzes over this reading. Lectures are too long but very very boring. The rest of the class is spent on mindless group work but they are easy A's.
Honestly, her class was very very hard for me. But I'm not a history major, so there's that. She flipped the classroom and that made it very hard because history is hard to teach to yourself... especially if it's a hard class anyways for you. She's very nice and fair though! She understood the class was tough and didn't go too hard on us
I love history but I hated this class & it was tough for me. It's so boring, & you are forced to go to lectures (which are ZERO help) bc there is group work EVERYDAY. Reading & quizzes before every class, some of the hardest tests I've ever taken, and constant papers! Hated every minute of it. Wayyy too much work for a state required course.
This class is a lot of work, but if you do it it's an easy A.
She grades really tough, her lectures aren't as informative as the reading, and the tests are hard.
The "flipped" classroom style is horrible. Class is mostly group assignments that are the kind of things i'd expect in low level High school classes and NOT lecture halls in college. She lectures extremely fast, but they aren't really helpful anyway. She is also extremely vague about assignments and slow about uploading stuff to ELC.
I took the honors section of HIST 2111 with Dr. Wolf. It is a role-playing game almost the entire semester. It was a super weird concept and at first I was like what is going on, but everyone actually got really into it. She grades really fairly. If you put in the effort for your work, you should get an A no problem.
I LOVE this class. I almost didn't take it because of all the negative comments but I'm glad I did. Her lectures are very informative albeit not very helpful for tests. There isn't a lot of reading (so do it), she uses a free online textbook, and the readings usually include watching videos. The group work is easy and generally a grade booster.
Dr. Wolf is a really great teacher. With that being said, she's tough. I definitely recommend her though!
There are a lot of mixed reviews because everyone has their own opinion about group work and daily assignments. I personally like it because the grades gave leeway to slack off in studying for tests. Wolf herself is a very knowledgeable, helpful professor. I was able to pull a B while knowing I could've made an A with more effort. Not THAT bad.
The HIST2111H course was spent almost entirely on a "role-playing history game" in which we were assigned specific historians to act as. It was an interesting concept though I must say I didn't learn much. As long as you can write a fair argumentative paper, you'll be fine. She loves participation, as well.
Dr. Wolf's lectures are kind of confusing. She moves quickly so taking notes is rushed. The tests contain a lot of vocab words and then an essay but it depends on how your specific TA grades it. She also gives a pop quiz every class to check for attendance. Honestly she was not my favorite.
She uses an online textbook, so you don't have to pay much. There are a lot of lectures, but she evens it out with group work to actually apply the knowledge. A lot more interesting than I expected!
Professor Wolf said the class would be easy but it wasn't. She gave a ton of reading (the textbook is a free online one though) for every class. She would give a quiz over that material to make sure we read and then lecture on that same material. All of the TAs grade the tests differently even if they say they don't.
Ton of reading. We had an online exhibit to make at the end of the class that she barely gave instruction on until the couple of weeks leading up to it (and then it still wasn't much). She talks really fast so it is hard to take notes. All of the tests are short answers/essays. It was too hard/too much work for a intro level required course.
Pros: -Free online textbook! -Extremely helpful study guides and test review sessions before every exam. -Professor is willing to answer questions. Cons: -Extremely boring lecture and hard exams. As as long as you studied a lot beforehand, go to test review sessions, and plan out well-thought out answers beforehand, you'll be okay.
Dr. Wolf tries to make the class interesting and involved, but the lectures get dull. There are lots of low-stakes assignments, many of which are done in groups, and regular quizzes. The quizzes are nothing to worry about if you do the readings. The exams take a lot of work- attend the review sessions and do the study guide. Go to your TA for help.
This class was incredible. Although there was a lot of reading and writing done outside of class, she is a very engaging speaker and is excellent at facilitating the role-playing games done in the course. (Mine were Greenwich Village 1913 and the New Left vs Counterculture)
SERIOUSLY NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS. Biggest mistake I ever made you will spend 3-4 hours on pointless homework every week and then you will fail the tests. Try to test out of this class or do anything you possibly can to avoid taking it. The teacher/ TAs take this gen ed class WAY too seriously. I had a 4.0 before I took this class
Worst class I've ever taken. Lots of homework. Poor communication. Professor doesn't seem to know much outside of lecture slides and seems to wing most classes. TA's grade toughly on all assignments- Don't expect any 100s. First class test average was around 80, and I expected an A. I had a 90 in US History, borderline C before withdrawing this.
Beware if you are a conservative. She's extremely Left-wing. She does make you think on where you stand on political issues which is a huge benefit. There are 2 big papers and a bunch of small ones. I never made below an 87 on those. the midterm and final consist of IDs (explaining a movement/person/etc.) and essays (one on MT, 2 on final) take her
More work than I expected for an intro, and the other HIST 2112 professor is apparently much easier. The tests are graded hard but you get the prompt beforehand so it is possible to do well. 2 big papers, lots of reading and online quizzes, a few smaller papers, 2 tests. That said, the lectures were engaging and she is polite to students
Really nice lady. Lectures are really boring though. She cares about her students & wants them to succeed. Veryyy textbook-heavy class, so lectures aren't necessary to go to, but they take surprise attendance sometimes. Tests are all short answer & essay.
This class is NOT easy. I worked really hard and still ended with a B. There is reading and a quiz every night. There are also A LOT of papers/writing assignments. The class is all lectures but you have to go because she gives random assignments for attendance. Use her study guide for the tests. The class is not impossible, but not at all easy.
HIST2112 is no easy A at UGA like you would expect it to be. Grading is all determined by the TA that you are assigned, so pray for an easy-grading TA (which it is unlikely you get one). The course is essay heavy. Attendance is not mandatory, but it is recommended, since participation is part of your overall grade. Expect a B in this course.
This class was not about history at all. TAs grade everything and theyre very tough. Only a midterm and a final and lots of essays and group work. Class is very boring and difficult.
Wolf is a nice enough person, but that doesn't really matter in this class. Grades are based off of a few essays and related assignments, midterm, final, and final paper. Your grade is heavily determined by your TA, and not all of the TAs grade using the same criteria. She also goes through the information in lecture too quickly. Hard to get an A.
All of the class is graded by TAs and since there are very few, large assignments it can make getting an A very difficult.
This class was a lecture style class so your grading is all based on your TA but this class is all writing. Her lectures were tolerable but her assignments were confusing
The lectures are very boring and long and she goes fast. She gives activities in class for participation points and they do not help you understand the information at all. The grading criteria is not clear and you are not taught how to write essays the way she wants you to.
Talks very fast through lectures. TAs do all the grading.
Dr. Wolf was an alright professor. Her lectures were decent but many of the assignments were a waste of time that didn't weight much (except for like one paper, mid term, and final), and everything is pretty much graded by the TA. Course was also disorganized, but if you put in some effort and do the in class activities, an A is doable.
I truly enjoyed Dr. Wolf's class. Her stories are quite interesting and her tests mimic your practice writing exercises. I don't see how you could get less than a "b" in this class.
She teaches history in a different way that made it easier for me to learn. You're given everything even study guides which aren' easy to come by. The trick to getting a good grade that I wish I would have known is meet with your TA and see how they grade bc your grade depends on how they grade!
Dr. Wolf's class was not my favorite. Her lectures in my opinion were not great, and I tried to visit her in office hours. The first time I went she did not show up and the second time she told me she had a meeting and to leave. She was not the nicest, nor went the extra mile to help her students. Your grade depends on your TA.
This class was based on historical games: Jumonville Incident, Acid Tests, and Greenwich Village. In each class, we were assigned to play a historical figure. In each game, we had to write papers (that add up to 6-10 pages), deliver speeches, and listen to other speeches. She made the final assignment optional. Overall, she is a fair grader.
I felt this class was harder than it needed to be. we usually didn't have homework and didn't really have to go to class, but sometimes we had to do group work in class that was basically attendance. What made it so hard was that the prompts for the essays were really specific to her lectures so it was hard to find outside information.
Took this class as a Junemester. It was a lot of work, but less than what the normal class would have been. Quizzes and tests are easy IF you read the textbook and take detail notes (both are open note)... follow her study guide that she gives and the class is an easy A- or B+. This class is great for fulfilling the requirement and not boring!
There was a lot of work that went into this class. I dont like history but I get that Dr. Wolf is trying to make learning it more interesting by tieing in pop-culture aspects. Studying and looking for information for papers are mainly off of the notes you take in class or googling. The textbook is literally no help at all so take some GOOD notes.
She was a fine teacher for the most part, it was just her lack of helping any of the students that was truly the problem. Her lectures and powerpoints are very general, and then the tests are specific. The TAs grade your written assignments, and they were very harsh on grading this semester. If you have another option, choose a different professor.
I LOVE DR. WOLF! Her class was not easy, but so worth it! If you think you hate history, consider taking Dr. Wolf, she made it really fun (for me at least). GREAT at keeping to her syllabus, no surprises at all. 3 tests (including final) and they were all open (written/printed) note. 25-word summaries were tricky at first, but easy after one or two
The class was pretty easy but there is way too much homework and busy work. Most of the communication is through your TA and there were several issues with grading this semester for just about the whole class. Sure, the class is super easy, but the amount of homework was excessive.
Dr. Wolf does not make her instructions clear, but then expects students to know specifics on certain things. She's been rude to me, personally, and has not been helpful regarding assignments. I've been better off just contacting my TA instead of her. If you have the option to take another professor's class, do it.
This class honestly just confuses me. She is very scattered as a professor and seems unconfident in her teachings. Your grade just depends on your TA, and the class is honestly just a hot mess.
Not a hard class but very boring and unnecessarily complicated. TA's do a majority of the work.
Dr. Wolf's approach to teaching history is unique, and if it had been executed well, the class could have been very informative and interesting. However, this class is a hot mess. There seems to be little communication between Dr. Wolf and the TA's, and there is lots of uncertainty about what is expected on assignments. Insane amount of busy work.
Wolf is very lecture heavy and they are not interesting at all. lots of homework and reading. Honestly, your grade is based on the TA you choose. If you stay on top of your work, you will do okay.
Do not take this class if you want to actually learn or enjoy history. There is no cohesiveness and every lecture seems like she only reads the powerpoint script. There is no elaboration from her on the PPT information. Lots of busy work assignments. My TA is an angel, but Dr. Wolf needs to rethink how she teaches this class.
Loved this class...super easy. I stopped going to class and just read the textbook and got an A. This class isn't difficult as long as you read the textbook and write notes on it. Tests are online and you can use your notes. IDK not difficult at all and she is an interesting lecturer. I liked this class.
There isn't anything material-wise in this class that is hard to grasp, but Dr. Wolf doesn't allow you to type out your notes in class, so everything has to be handwritten. She also doesn't provide much information on her slide shows, so if you miss something she said you're kinda screwed. I would recommend another prof. if you have the chance.
There are so many papers and busy work in this class. She does not allow you to take notes on your laptop and makes history more complicated than it needs to be. There are role play activities that are time consuming and not helpful as well as very controversial. Take someone else.
Be prepared to write tons of papers and then have them graded as if you are in a high level English course. She assigns so much homework and even assigned an entire essay the Saturday of break and then made it due the day after Thanksgiving break, leaving no regular school days to do the work. Stressful class.
Dr. Wolf definitely lectures a lot but she often gives activities at the end of class to break up the session. She gives helpful information about things that will be on exams during lectures. There aren't a lot of papers and our homework is always very easy and quick. This class is easy if you pay attention in class and get your work done on time.
Dr. Wolfs lectures were boring and she would put little words on her slides. Her lectures consisted of her talking with in-class activities that were not clear. You have a Perusall reading due the night before every class. This class is graded by the TAs. My TA worked with me and was more helpful than Dr. Wolf. All test material is given beforehand
Too much work for a non-major course. Just too much reading and too much work. Exams include in-person essays.
Dr. Wolf was great! There were 3 exams & a final, & we were given a list of possible questions beforehand & were able to bring a notecard w/ notes front & back to use. There were games in class that gave you a good bit of extra credit if you participated, & they weren't much work. Make sure to introduce yourself to your TA as they will be grading.
She made this class way harder than it needed to be and made it impossible to receive an A on her test which were completely essay questions.
Given that this was a lecture hall of 300 students and not an English class, I didn't like that written assignments were graded by TAs bc the grade you got really depended on your TA who you don't even get to know before they grade you. A lot of busy work and games that are meant to be engaging but just felt pointless; however, I did like Perusall.
Wolf is good, lectures are interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should go to get an A.
Lectures were all over the place. Lectures do no prepare you for exams. It's almost pointless to attend class, but you have to in case she gives an in-class assignment. Lots of reading.
Prof Wolf is knowledgeable but often comes off as if 2112 is not the subject she wants to be teaching. As such the lectures come off as stale and lifeless, and with random assignments in random lectures you want to be there regardless. Required small group sessions on fridays are not the worst, but like the class they are reading heavy.
I genuinely think her class is fair, and tests are very easy to do good on. The only thing is there is so much participation stuff, if you don't want to go to class, don't take her. It's definitely a class you can do good in without going to class, and she knows that, so she makes a ton of participation assignments.
Literally do not take her. She is one of those professors who thinks only her class matters. It is way to difficult for an intro history class. Your grade comes down to three tests and a big paper with hw and participation barely helping.
I'm a senior and I can confidently say this is my least favorite class I've taken in college, thus far. Exams are completely written and are graded ROUGH. The final you had to write two essays in class over the given prompts. Textbook reading/ annotations required every other day. Professor does not allow you to have computer out in class.
She is just literally so uninvolved in her classes, the TAs do everything. It's really easy not to go to class because the study guides she gives before tests tell you everything you need to study to make an A. Don't waste your time on her lecture, go to breakouts instead. Overall easy class but really mid prof
There are breakout sessions on Fridays which you have to attend and you do group discussions. As for the lectures you don't really need to go because the midterms (2) and final are both writing based off of study guides given to you to fill out. Easy A you just need to do online annotations and a final paper. Would reccomend!
There are readings due every other day, attendance is randomly taken during the lecture. I enjoyed the breakout sessions with the TA though. The tests were honestly the most difficult part because of how heavily timed they were. TAs do most of the grading which also seemed unfair at certain points. It is still overall a relatively east class.
Loved this class because it was so so easy. Lectures are mostly optional, she gives you the test questions before the test, and all the homework can be finished in 10 minutes. There is one recearch paper that was killer, but overall one of the easiest classes i've taken here. Put in a little work and it's fine. Good lectures too, if you go to them
Such a great professor and class! Absolutely take for the easiest honors credit. There are lots of papers but Dr. Wolf is super understanding and a very very fair grader. Our class had fun with the reacting to the past games and I actually looked forward to going to class.
Lectures were boring but it's necessary to go to class because missing in-class assignments will drop your grade. The exams were all essay-based, and preparing for them took a long time. This class had an unnecessarily large workload for a basic university requirement class. I'm very relieved it's over but not the worst class ever.
This class is lecture heavy, but the lectures do nothing to prepare you for the exams. Attending class is pointless because it doesn't prepare you for the test, but you have to go because of the in-class assignments. Grading is all done by TA's and it seems to be all over the place. Prof Wolf makes this class way too hard for an intro history class
way too much for a basic level class, do not take this professor.
All TA based grading with tons of writing. You never know what your gonna get on the tests, seems random.
LISTEN, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She gives out so much work just for her TAs to grade and her TAs grade hard. My TA especially was very inaccessible outside of class time and sometimes even during class time. Her exams are too much and overwhelming. THIS IS NOT AN EASY A. She makes history boring and that with the HW is aggravating
I took this class just as a requirement, it was very overwhelming. A lot of content memorization for tests, there's an additional oral history project, no other professor does this. There are in-class participation points so you have to attend and there's a lot of outside-class reading. Very time-consuming for just a requirement.
This class is way too hard for an entry-level course. Homework is due at midnight the night before every class, exams have so much content with no real rubric/criteria, and she reads straight off the slides. In-class activities for participation, but they don't help and usually are a waste of time. TAs grade everything so go to their office hours.
The senior thesis is almost entirely based on discussion during the meetings at the beginning of the semester, and the information the class reviews is very helpful for writing the thesis. She has regular meetings during the research and writing process for the thesis and provides good feedback. She helps students feel supported.
I'm not sure why Wolf gets so much hate. She is really nice, and her lectures are good. There are only two tests and our biggest assignment is the history paper that acts as our final. Textbook annotations are weekly assignments; they are not fun but inform you for the next lecture. Overall, it's not a bad course.
So Dr. Wolf is not as bad as all the reviews are saying but she definitely is a tough teacher. She makes the requirements of the class very clear in the start. Oral History, Readings, Lectures, and Midterms. Midterm was scary at first but light tbh. The TA's will help you and proofread your oral history so its ery easy to pass if you make an effort
Dr. Wolf is good but her class takes lots of effort. There's a project that requires an interview and an essay. Also, her tests force you to learn a lot of material, write 3 short responses, and then an essay. Everything you are graded on involves writing even the in-class assignments and homework. If you put in the effort you can get a good grade.
Idk why Dr. Wolf has bad reviews, but don't listen to those. Dr. Wolf is a great lecturer. She's super knowledgeable. There are two exams and a final paper, but because of their format, I only ever studied the day before for the exams, and I aced both. There is a lot of HW, but it's SO easy. This class just never gave me any strife. TAKE HER.
Aka Montgomery Wolf btw! Took her 1945-Present class & liked it a lot bc it was a smaller class where we could split the readings equally/learn from each other. We also played 2 React to the Past games which I thought I would hate, but it was actually chill bc we had no tests. If u hate reading & writing, don't take. Dr. Wolf is awesome tho!
Prof Wolf's 2112 class is demanding, but engaging if you put in the work. Lectures are helpful, and Unstuck AI was a game-changer for exam prep. Grading can be inconsistent, but it's a fair course overall.
Professor Wolf is so passionate about history and HIST 3073 is extremely interactive as it is set up as game simulations which was a creative way to learn. She just wants all her students to succeed and learn something new. I would 100% take this class again and highly recommend it if you are looking for a unique way to learn history.
The class was graded by TAs, and it was harsh grading for a requirement taken by everyone. We had two tests as well as a final paper. It was not an easy A and took a lot of studying and meeting with the TA. You had to attend lecture for activities that counted as participation, but the textbook material was what mattered for the exams.
Decent amount of homework required, and lecture slides are posted online after each class. Lectures are a bit monotonous, but not that bad. Two essay-based exams and a final research paper, all graded by the TA, which can be harsh sometimes depending on the TA. Study guides are posted before both exams, so lectures can sometimes feel useless.
The class is easy, she practically gives you the test in the study guide so you know exactly what to study. The random assignments for attendance are annoying. For the readings you have to leave annotations that prove you did it but she drops quite a few. There is a semester long project that is pretty involved but overall an easy A.
Loved this teacher, you could sleep through most lectures and pass. There's a semester long project but it's easy and the final essay can easily be typed within a night. Her tests are very similar to what are on the study guides. The TA's were helpful and the in-class participation is easy. Also for Perusall you can skip ahead and finish it early.
I will tell anyone who will listen: TAKE WOLF FOR HISTORY. She actively WANTS you to get an A. She gives you the test questions beforehand, helps you study, and her TA's are usually pretty nice graders. She has an annoying amount of homework (like textbook reading) and a huge paper final, but she is the best, easiest, nicest history prof here
I find history classes in general boring, but Professor Wolf does a good job explaining content and highlighting what's important. Her study guides are basically exactly what's on the exams. The only drawback is there's a lot of writing (3 exams with essays and ID questions, weekly reading and response assignments) but none of it is difficult.
Dr. Wolf is very nice and teaches well, but majority of the class is based on participation and tests. The study guide gives you what's on the test. She randomly does assignments in class which count as participation and you can't miss more than 2. The rest of participation comes from readings in Perusall.
Her lectures are very boring and honestly not needed, but there are graded assignments so you should still go. The exams a essay based, but she gives you exactly what's gonna be on it in the study guide. Not the nicest and honesty kinda rude, but you mainly talk to TA more so I just ignore her.
At first, I thought history was boring and put off this class until senior year. I should have done it earlier... it was all freshmen of course. TAKE WOLF. She honestly rocked- and my best advice is MAKE FRIENDS WITH YOUR TA. Go to review sessions. I got great grades on my exams bc she posts what will kinda be on there. TAKE WOLF
She teaches content well. She gives 3 in person exams which consist of two term writing questions and an essay prompt. Before exams she gives study guides with list of terms and two essay prompts one of which you could get on test. She gives discussion questions that you write down and turn in most classes. Class is easy if you come and study.
I throughly enjoyed Dr. Wolf's class. It was easy and she made the class very interesting. I would highly recommend taking her for any of her classes. I am excited to take another one of her courses next semester.
