She was one of the hardest teachers I've ever had, but also probably the best. She had high expectations, but she helped me meat them.
Marylynne is a wonderful teacher. I would recommend her to any student taking an english class. She is so helpful and she wants to help you become a better writer. Great teacher! Take her class!
Dr. Diggs is a terrific instructor for anyone looking to perfect their writing skills in a college atmosphere. However, I would only recommend her to someone willing to put a lot of time into her class as it is not a walk in the park.
I actually enjoyed her class and I learned a lot in it as well. My writing skills improved so much. She also makes it seem easier to write a 10 page paper by taking it one step at a time.
I am currently in her class and so far she is totally cool. She seems to have fun teaching english, which in turn makes it easier to learn english. I have high hopes for the next quarter.
Wonderful!
She's very helpful and doesn't give out very many assignments.
She won't give you and "A".
Very nice, very helpful, hard grader.
Difficult to get a good grade.. I have always been an "A" english student, and I ended up with a B-. I didn't get as much help from her as I should have since I procrastinated, but your best bet is to stay on track, and get her advice on everything. Try your hardest to get your rough draft in perfect condition so she can give you optimum response.
GREAT teacher! She is more than willing to explain further an assignment if you don't understand. Goes out of her way to make sure that you're comfortable in the class as well. Keeps things interesting too. Makes great funny jokes in class to keep the class awake since it is at 8 am! Never fails! GREAT teacher!

loved her!! is very helpful! my advice, when she asks to have you put your stuff on the board, do it. it is so helpful!!
Was awesome. She was very clear in what she wanted and what she expected you to do. If you don't attend you get marked down but come on it was one night a week. Would definately take any class she was offering again.
Excellent teacher, highly recommended, made the class very interesting!
She is awesome! VERY helpful and very nice. She is funny and she makes everything easy to understand!
Great teacher! Teaches by example, using text and your peers.
I took Dr. Digg's English 102 course two years ago and loved it.
AWESOME! She truly teaches above a college level, and if you can keep up, then you are set for the future. Oh, if you show up early to class with her, ask her to show you the exploding whale.
She would let the students run the class, she let them play with playdough and even once someone brought in a rabbit. We had to have class in the dark due to someone who was "light sensitive" Mmm hmmm . She allowed the students to bring friends/lovers/whoever into class with them, it was very distracting and unprofessional.
This is my 3rd class with Marylynne. If anyone can express a real opinion about her, IT'S ME!!! She is a very laid back teacher, who stays on track with her schedule and on the syllabus. She'll always give you an honest answer and she puts her students first. She's not difficult, but you are expected to make the grade. Take Marylynne Diggs class!!
I learned more in the first 2 wks than all of English 101. She has a "progress bar" idea like when you buy something online, but with familiar, understand, and skillful practice. I always assumed if something was familiar, I knew it. I didn't ever think about it that way before. I use that idea other classes to help me ask questions.
she grades soooooooo hard. I didn't learn anything new except that my ideas sucked and they cost me my grades. You have to agree with her thinking because she's so close minded. The lecture is useless because it's so focused on like commas and nothing important
Diggs is the bomb. She is so helpful and willing to go above and beyond for her students. go to class, ask questions, pay attention and you will do great. Anyone who does bad in the class either never shows up or doesn't pay attention.
she is the best english teacher on campus and i AM planning on TAKING A SECOND CLASS WITH HER FOR SURE!!!! i have never felt more prepared in my life. she does workshops and gives preparedness credits which motivates us to be prepared for class.... and i never recall any playdough, partners, or animals in the class...at all.
This class was so eye opening. I originally took the class because I was interested in GLBT life. Now I'm so passionate about it because of what I've learned. Marylynne is excellent at teaching and is very funny. It's my absolute most favorite class that I look forward to everyday because of her and her ability to share her knowledge.
She's not the easiest, but she really wants her students to succeed.
Helpful, clear - inside and outside of class. Don't expect to just "win her over" and pass the class, she -wants- to help you and she wants to help you pass. Learned things and have -retained- things from her class that i have been struggling to remember/memorize for years.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Every time I had any questions at all she would be willing to answer them asap even in emails. She keeps up with everything and is hilarious. Very approachable and glbt friendly. She will help you as much as you ask with all the material. Staying after class or emails or in class.
Very, very cool teacher! I wore out my participation points in this class it was so engaging. Broad spectrum of GLBT literature, without over emphasizing the boys or the girls. Novel read at the end was awesome. Papers are short but doable. Totally recommend Marylynne for any class!
hard grader, make English class interesting, good instructor take her class to gain knowledge not good points.
Very nice and helpful teacher. She was well organized and efficient. However, she is a bit of a harsh grader! My advice would be, make sure you do a really good job on the first two assignments.
This class was amazing, and Marylynne was super helpful. It was hard to determine your grade through the term because there weren't a lot of assignments to be turned in and most of the grade is participation. Still, she's probably the most amazing teacher at Clark. Super helpful and understanding. Basically took the final during lecture. Twice.
marylynne is one of the best teachers I have ever had.
Second class with Diggs, and she is freaking amazing. Couldn't recommend her more. Nothing negative to say. One of the very best teachers at Clark.
2nd class I have taken from her, wonderful professor and a lot of fun.
I took her class because everyone said she was the best 102 teacher at Clark. She was hard and cared a lot more about nit picky things like punctuation than my 101 teacher. At first I thought I made a big mistake taken it from her, but I learned a lot, and she as always friendly and helpful. I don't know how she smiles at 9 a.m. but she does.
She was hard grader, but it pushed me to wrk harder. I had to get lots of extra help in her office and the writing center, but I passed with a C. I think I could do better now. I had a hard time with my grammer and punctuatin. At east she was freindly and didn't make me feel stupid.
This class was very interesting for all people gay and straight. she is a very good teacher and grades fairly easy. i highly recommend the class whether your interested or just need a humanities class.
While there is plenty of reading in this class, it is not dole-drum or condensed. She is fair and generous in grading from what I've seen. She sets you up for success if you stay with the program in effort and attention.
I took the class because I thought it would be fun and different, but it was harder than I expected. Some of the reading was long and dense, but interesting once we discussed it. I never thought about most of this stuff. I did the research paper proejct, and it was harder than I thought it would be. I wish I did service learning instead.
I'm so glad this class is over. It was sooo hard and she doesn't let anything go by the wayside. She was helpful, but who has time to get that much help to do well. I put more time into this class than all my other classes together and Im hoping for a C.
I took the class because it fit my schedule and seemed different than the usual. the reading was a challenge but i learned a lot about law and science I didn't have before. The films were good, and I got to know people I wouldn't of known otherwise, which was cool.
I took Diggs because everyone said she is the best 102 teacher at Clark. The class wasn't always fun, bit I did gain confidence in my ability to write 10 pagers. She tells you what you need to know without a lot of fluff or fanfare which I appreciated.
Awesome instructor!! A lot of enthusiasm, makes class interesting. Very helpful if you ask for the help. The more you talk to her the more you'll understand the assignment. Simple, straight forward.
Diggs rocks! She is so cheerful even when talking about plagiarism! LOL. I fell like I was in good hands and I learned a lot.
MLD was such a great professor. You have to show up to her class; missing days will eventually count against your grade. Highly, highly recommend her. She was very helpful and made the class a joy.
I have Diggs right now and so far so good. She doesnt give away good grades but it's always obvious why you didn't get more points. She seems very fair. She's funny too. She has this qwerky sense of humor and yet she can be serious and expects you to take the class seriously too.
I have Diggs now and so far so good. She doesnt give away As but it's always obvious why you didn't get more points. She seems very fair. She's funny too. She has this qwerky sense of humor and yet she can be serious and expects you to take the class seriously too.
I was dreading having to write the 10 page paper but Marylynne made it seem so effortless. She is truly there for help along every step of the way. She is very fair at grading, and by the end of the class you come out with so much knowledge on writing the research paper.
Diggs rocked. She helped us without codling us. She was aways available for questions. I learned so much and laughed often too!
She is a fair and helpfull intructor, you would be fair if you attend all classes. One mid-term text worth 5-10 percent for final grade. It would never be an easy class that English instructors suppose to pick on something in Englsih field in order to reveal their profession. The paper is a nightmare which I never want to do again.
This delightful class is mostly discussion based, revolving around the assigned prose. Marylynne choose wonderful pieces and for our major project, we did a short report on a book of our choice (from a large list). It's been 2-3ish years since I've taken the class, but I still have to say its one of my favorites.
Professor DIggs by far is the best instructor that I have ever had! She is very clear on what she expects and is always there to help her students. When I would email her questions, she would get back to me usually within the hour (even on Sat. and Sun). She sets up small workshops which makes writing the 10-12 page paper seem way easier.
You are required to do a 10 to 12 page research paper with at least 10 resources half of them scholorly. Be prepared for it. Rough draft is due about 2 weeks before final draft. If you do the discussions and the 3 writing assignments you will do fine just be prepared the final paper is 80% of your grade don't procrasitinat. Very wiling to help!
great class, took it online and she still made it easy to follow and be involved in
Ms. Diggs is an amazing teacher. She responds to emails very frequently including weekends. Hands down a great teacher but you do have to work for an "A" grade. Would recommend !
She is a tough grader and expects that you are perfect by the end of the class. Her expectations are a high. She will provide suggestions on your paper and will grade you down after following her advice, so it can be frustrating. There is a lot of busy work in the class of posting but the responses aren't checked and most of the time are wrong.
Professor Diggs is really great! I took Queer Literature with her and is was by far the best class I've taken at Clark. You do have to work for that A, however, most of the work is in the class participation. I would recommend her to anyone wanting to take an English class at Clark.
Really enjoyed my time with her, and would take her class again. She is a fun instructor and actually talks about interesting topics. She is very friendly and very open to working with students. Highly recommend!
Wide ranging, but interesting class. Great use of TEDTalks and video as well as archives of art from Japan and architectural models. If you like nature or are commit to the environment, you will have fun and learn a lot. I did an art project for my final, but some people did volunteer work or research. Overall, it was a fun class.
This was the best class I have ever taken. I'm so glad it was how i finished my time at Clark.
Good teacher and professor, seems to really care about what she teaches. She is a really tough grader though and gives way too much reading for the amount of credits. It would be fine but she doesn't provide much feedback on how to get a better grade in the weekly discussions.
I took her new Nature and the Humanities online class and it was really fun. She helps you if you need it and the learning criteria was fun. There is a huge project due near the end so make sure you do not procrastinate on it. I would definitely take another class with her.
Marylynne is one of the best professors I have had the pleasure of learning from and with. She facilitates but doesn't run the discussion forums, which makes it more student-driven. She makes you work, but the tasks aren't unreasonable or too time-consuming. Her approach to this course is very inter-disciplinary and she makes learning fun!
I was very excited to take this class. Unfortunately, Marylynne is a very tough grader especially when it comes to participation. This is a very touchy subject matter and it's unfortunate that just because you may not feel comfortable speaking up in class she'll mark you down.
I procrastinated a lot to where I was writing my entire proposal the night before and the rough draft 2 nights before it was due. Otherwise, her grading is fair and she gives plenty of time for assignments. I didn't look at the book that much, so it's really only essential for a couple things.
She is a hard grader, but she is willing to help you. The textbook is used, but not a whole lot. She gives detailed feedback on every assignment.
As someone who has taken numerous math and science classes, and a previous English class, this particular English class with Marylynne Diggs was the hardest class I have taken so far at Clark College. She assigns a bunch of reading/assignments within a week, and makes you feel dumb for asking any question. She is a tough grader, wouldn't take again
Marylynn is a great teacher. I've had a ton of questions and he always gets back to me within 24 hours. Her coursework is about the norm for an online class. There is a lot of reading. One thing I didn't appreciate was the wording on the quizzes were very vague. Pay close attention to the readings and participate in the discussions.
GREAT teacher! If you want to learn about LGBTQ community, this was a great class! Great information and group conversations. There was some reading and once a week tests but if you took notes and payed attention, you'll do good! Very caring and kind. She really cares about our community, good stories and answers any questions. Very open.
Queer Literature - this class is 99% poems, so if you have trouble understanding and analyzing poems (like me) - beware! Marylynne is an amazing instructor, though. Always responsive and gives great feedback. She also gets actively involved in class discussions.
Queer Literature - Diggs was an awesome instructor, she always left feedback for all of our weekly short "essays" and got involved with our discussions to keep them more lively and interesting. She is very kind as well and understanding when it comes to students' busy schedules. Pretty easy class too, it's the same assignment every week.
There are about 7-12 readings (all online), quiz, and 400-word discussion post each week. There is also a project that you work on throughout the quarter. You can choose between an art project, making PSAs, doing a research paper, singing a song, and more about environmental issues. Overall, it's a pretty easy class if you don't procrastinate.
I had her for Queer Lit online and had a great time. You do read two novels during class that you will need to buy yourself. Both books are worth the read. Class discussions were in-depth and insightful, if you miss a discussion it will really hurt your grade.
I loved having Dr. Diggs for Intro to LGBTQ Studies! Would highly recommend taking her class! She is incredibly caring and passionate about LGBTQ issues. One quiz and one discussion post per week, and the content are incredibly interesting to learn about. Gives a lot of flexibility to the final project and you are able to have fun with it!!
I took Marylynne Diggs English 176 class online. She was a fair and straightforward teacher who truly cared about her students and was respectful when I told her I was having mental health issues and was therefore struggling here and there. She helped me out and would always communicate back to me quickly and be willing to help me. Solid choice.
Like the class a lot. The reading is pretty hard sometimes, but discussions are good, grading is fair, and she is wicked fast with email and grading things. I would recommend to anyone who like LGBTQ literature, or any literature.
One discussion and quiz per week. Sometimes we watched films/videos; other times, we read articles. Most were easy to consume and understand. Discussions were fun and insightful! She is very quick at grading and responding to emails! The final was a group project but there was a lot of freedom with it. 11/10 would recommend taking her!!
One of the best professors I've had really. The group project at the end was a tremendous experience, and likely the best assignment I've done in my life. She's very nice and helpful, and not a difficult grader. Discussion assignments absolutely required thinking and effort but if you read the material and are a creative writer you'll be fine.
There is a lot of work, reading, watching videos, a group paper early in the semester, but she is clear and approachable. She responds to emails so fast. I learned so much already. We get to choose our research topic, and she provided a basic problem and solution structure. I think I will be in good shape for writing when I finish the class.
Interesting course content to read each week with a discussion board with a clear rubric to get an A. 8-week project with multiple options and is your 'final'. As long as your project relates to what she asks for and visible effort is put in, it's also an easy A. I did an art project for it, made 5 pieces and a quick purpose statement and got an A.
This was a great class. I was nervous to take a research writing class but this teacher is wonderful&dialed in. It is a lot of work but u learn so much&it set me up in every class, to write with sources. This teacher is a 10/10. It's obvious she cares&puts effort into her class. Most of the class is working on your research paper! U can work ahead!
ML is so incredible. Her feedback is very helpful and she deeply cares about the success of her students. You will have a have 5 question true or false quiz each week, as well as a short essay shared as a discussion with replies. I didn't find the workload heavy and I felt I learned a lot, even with being online. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
ML is the most responsive teacher I ever had in an online class. Answers questions fast, even on weekends. Gives good feedback, made the work feel relevant. A group paper early on and a lot of online reading, lectures written out and video. Overwhelming at times, but it's a class that I needed & learned things I used already in other classes.
very nice prof, easy grader, not a heavy workload, gives good feedback, overall great
I liked the material. Very inspirational content. No tolerance for AI though, she called me on it twice, and I didn't use it that much, just to get ideas and flesh things out.
