Professor Cook is just amazing. I was so glad to have added her summer anatomy class because I learned so much and she was extremely helpful. She makes her class a great learning environment. She put a lot of effort to help her class do well. Attend class, participate especially in lab, listen to her exam reviews and you will pass with a good grade
Funny professor, gives lecture with extreme clarity. Takes the time to make sure that the labs are understandable and in correlation with what we are currently learning. Lets you know in advance what the next quizzes will be tested on and gives awesome reviews on the materials. I would definitely recommend her to any student.
Prof. Cook is of a rare breed. I graduated from UC Berkeley and she is definitely up to par with those professors, if not better. She truly cares that you understand and she wants all of her students to succeed. Sure--it's an anatomy course. If you're not dedicated, you're not going to do well. She breaks it down for you. She's also hilarious.
Ms Cook is an excellent professor. She is so caring and patient with her students. She will try to give you tips on how to remember difficult concepts, and makes sure she reviews difficult concepts more than once. This class is not easy, but it's not hard to get an A if you study her notes and listen to her lectures.
I really enjoyed learning and being taught from Dr. Cook, by far one of the best professors I've had. She is highly intelligent such that she can become gregarious in her teaching and word play on her lessons using helpful analogies and storytelling. Anatomy can be dry, difficult, tedious but she sure changed that for me.
TEACHING PROFESSOR AWARD GOES TO PROFESSOR MARYN COOK! As a graduate of UCSD-She equally pars with my hard sciences professors there in her background, education, knowledge, and teaching. She belongs in the rare breed of professors who care and will see to it that you succeed to your best effort! You'll be glad to have taken her.
Best professor ever! She really cares about the students and does everything to help us do well. Her tests have no tricky questions. Her lectures are amazing. She is friendly, accessible and goes out of her way to make Anatomy not boring. I wish she thought other classes as well, cuz I would love to take her over and over again!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. I've tried Daftari before and he was a definite no go for anatomy 1. Cook, on the other habd, simplifies everything! And she's also really funny, which helps with remembering some contents in class and making class enjoyable! With labs, she helps you a lot. If you ask for help for anything, she will DEFINITELY help you out.
I wish I could have professor Cook for every class I take. She is super nice and very upbeat. She made a boring class like anatomy pretty fun. She also makes funny jokes, usually at herself. As for the material, attend every class, pay attention and study. The usual. She does not trick you. Wonderful professor. On par with great UC professors.
Anatomy is a hard class- don't let this high rating fool you into thinking it's an easy A. It's not. You'll have to study for at least 2 hours a day- but Ms. Cook is a one of a kind professor. So helpful, has a very sweet voice, and attractive! You don't need a book, just study her notes and take notes in class. I very much enjoyed her class.
She's by far the best teacher I've ever taken. Her study notes and lab manual are precise and up to standard with the material she teaches and that which is required. I took a summer class which was pretty fast pace and long hrs in lecture but I never once fell asleep because we were always engaged in her lectures. It felt like a normal semester.
Absolutely phenomenal! I've never had a class feel so comfortable, friendly, and enriching. She is respectful, funny as hell, and is a fair grader. Her tests are not easy, but as long as you study and show up to class you'll be fine. If you have the chance, take this class!!!
Prof. Cook's class was great! All you need is to be present, print out her slides so you can write and follow along, as well as purchase her study notes & lab book. I took it for 5 week course, intense heave lectures BUT very well explained. Study her notes and you will do great! Cook is very nice and charismatic!
Had her at Pasadena CC, totally in love with her! Designs her own lab and note outline. She is also very hilarious and love talking with student. Exams has test and practicum, it's lab works. She drops the lower test/practicum, has extra credit on test. She gives quizzes everyday and you can meet them again in test. She's very nice.
Professor Cook is such an amazing person. She makes the subject of Anatomy fairly simple to understand. Yet, her class is not easy. Memorization and styding 3-4 days before her tests are surely mandatory. A great feature about her class is that the new version of the textbook is not required. She's funny, attractive, and inspirational.
I took Prof. Russel over winter and she was AMAZING. I loved coming to a 3 hour lecture. Say what?? Take her, you won't regret it. But don't expect to breeze through it. You'll need to work hard to get an A. She makes it doable though.
I signed up for Anatomy with a mindset that it's going to be extremely intense, but she made everything so easy to understand. She genuinely cares about her students and wants all of us to succeed. Don't rely on her kindness because you still need to work hard if you want an A in the class. If you're a complainer/slacker, don't waste her time.
Shes great! Best anatomy teacher ! Please please take her. Test is based on lecture hust pay attention she tells you whats going to be on the test
jst finished her this summer 2017, study the material everyday. clear grading criteria, dnt skip class, and focus. 3 hours of class everyday was hard but, stick it out and you will pass. great teacher to learn from. she makes anatomy understandable.
Great professor! She made anatomy a lot easier to understand and tells you what is going to be on the test. She really cares about her students and is very helpful.
The course contains a ton of information and is not easy. However, Professor Cook is very good about being specific regarding what you need to know for both written tests and lab practicums; no surprises or ambiguity, just clear and organized lessons.
Maryn is an AWESOME teacher. She relates the material in a way that is easy to comprehend. I really enjoyed the strategies she uses for helping students remember things. Cares about the material she teaches. I highly recommend buying the book/notes. They make studying for tests VERY easy. This was such a fun summer class.
Love her so much
Maryn is probably the best professor at LACC!!! If i had a teacher like her for every class, Id never miss. Thanks Maryn!!!!
Honestly Best anatomy professor!!! Must take her! She is very encouraging and wants students to learn. She makes it less challenging so we don't get discouraged in learning such a hard topic. Attendance is graded by group quizzes with extra credit. Tests are mildly hard review study notes and lab manual which she provides! Highly recommend!
Amazing teacher. Maryn has a way of explaining the subject in a way students can have a better understanding. Very straightforward on tests/ grading and is very knowledgeable. She even provides a study guide and lab manual that you can purchase which makes it much easier to study! Not the easiest A you must study but she's so great at teaching!
Im really not sure how this Prof. received 5 stars. She is not helpful she assumes everyone already has a degree, and doesn't help you understand the material. She talks you write then she tests nothing else. She knows her material but she doesn't know how to teach it that you would retain it or would even want to Don't waste your time
I never review teachers, but she did such a great job I couldn't leave her hanging. She's funny, encouraging, and engaged with her students. She really loves what she does, and it's evident! I loved her class and it was pretty easy to learn the subject from her. She's a goofball, and everyone loves her....
Great professor! This course is worker friendly for those of you who have to work. The professor gives you everything you need to do well in the course. also, the course is not overwhelming like other anatomy teachers. The class average was a C+/B.
Professor cook is the MOST intelligent professor Ive ever had. She loves what she does and she teaches w/ passion. She cares for students and she wants them to pass from the start. She gives you EVERYTHING you need to pass the class. This class is difficult because you need to STUDY a lot but she makes the labs/lectures easy and not overwhelming.
Professor Cook is one of my favorite professors I've ever had. She is professional, detailed for things that matter, and caring. She really wants her students to learn and pass Anatomy. If you don't learn and pass in this class, I've got news for you, perhaps you are not trying hard enough. She gives you everything you need to succeed.
This class is all memorization and she gives you everything you need to succeed. Just study the lecture notes she gives you because she's crystal clear on what she will test you on! She's very enthusiastic and explains things well.
Shouldnt be this easy. Total 1000pts; 4lecture, 4lab exams(100pts each), 13lab quizes(10pts each), and 200pts final. Drops the lowest midterm or practicum. Lecture exam; lots of obvious mcq, short answer(she will tell u during lecture), Lab exam; so easy. Quiz:free pts being in lab. 80free pts here and there, avg is above 90%. What more I can say
Wow! Want a motivating teacher. TAKE HER! You won't regret it! Memorization is key. Goes over short answer questions in class for test. Helps you succeed unlike other professors
Shes amazing, really wants her students to succeed, tests are based on lectures. Practicums are super easy, extra credit questions. Makes her lectures interesting and easy to follow
Best prof i ever had, she knows her material, very well organized, explains everything in depth. take her class you wont regret it
Theres nothing else I can say except SHES AMAZING! I never think Id be this interested to Anatomy till I took her class. She is the best Anatomy Professor ever! She really wants you to succeed so go and take her :)
She expects you to be present at every lab and lecture. This way you won't miss the quizzes she gives during labs. She also provides a list of words for each practicum, make sure to study for all of them. As for the final, the study guide is very helpful.
amazing teacher she goes far and beyond for her students . anatomy itself is hard but she teaches it as easy as you can understand . her personality is amazing . I took her for summer . I just wish she would teach physiology at LACC . Im going to miss her . She is my favorite teacher throughout all college. Shes so funny she makes class fun.
The best prof ever, her exams & practicums r easy if you study, offers a lot of extra credit, easy group quizes before & after lab, her personality is amazing, she goes above & beyond for her students, she loves to answer questions, she is funny and lively which made lectures & class very enjoyable, summer felt short, take her i highly recommend!
One of the best Professor's I've ever had. Don't even consider another Professor for Anatomy at LACC get into her class if you can. She will give you her own study guide and Power Points needed to pass the class.
She gives you EVERYTHING you need to get an A. Start studying day 1. Quizzes are ez, tests are multiple choice so just a matter of actually reading the material. She likes hard working students, hates lazy ones. Shes perfect for medical majors
I took this class during spring 2020 which transitioned to online b/c covid. She is outstanding. I was afraid to take a science class but she made it so easy for us to pass. She had us print out the workbook being used (112 pages) and has us print out the lab & label it each chapter. It was SUPER useful and more helpful than a $300 textbook.
Professor Cook is the best professor Ive had! I took her class in Spring 2020 where it was transitioned to online halfway through the semester. She has quizzes each week for each chapter, but theyre easy as long you have the study guide. Make sure to attend her zoom lectures, especially the lab ones. Also she gives you the textbook, no buying.
She is a very understandable professor. She goes beyond her scope of practice as professor, she want her students to understand the elements of the real world of anatomy special if you going into the medical field. She is amazing professor.
Took Professor Russell for the 5-week summer course. A little intimidated because it was online, but she really made things easier to understand! Grade was composed of assignments, quizzes with unlimited chances, and 5 exams. Extra credit was given as well. Super organized, nice, funny, and caring! Put in the work & you'll get grade you deserve!
I took her 5-week summer course and it was one of the hardest things I have done. She is very understanding. The tests are remotely proctored with proctorio and the tests are super hard. For the summer course, she gave a test each week but had low stakes quizzes and some discussions which were easy. Her lectures really help but do not cover all.
The online HW is majority a big part of your grade!
She is a nice person, but some unrealistic expectations made me feel she doesn't care about the hard times we are in. She started to make her exams harder toward the end of the semester and added some " choose all that apply" questions that are very confusing in order to control the cheatings she thought were going on for the exams.
Class was online because of covid and she knows how to use the online platform to teach well. A lot of lecture time, but covers most of what you are tested on in them. Tests are hard and get harder as the semester goes on. Homework is meant to act as study guides, but you need to study more than what is assigned. Several chances for extra credit.
Amazingly curated & streamlined modules made the curriculum accessible and enjoyable. A dedicated professor who will hang out online after lecture answering q's and making sure you understand. She is great at explaining! An amazing professor. She attached pdf of other texts for further reading, and provides many other helpful resources. highly rec!
She is a good teacher but the test getting harder and harder -_- some questions were really confusing.
Professor Cook is a caring professor who wants to see you succeed. Her tests do get harder each time but she provides so much extra credit (60 points worth) I would take her again!
Took the summer class and it was difficult. But by listening to her lectures and reading the text she provides, I was able to get a good grade in the class. Her tests just get more difficult as the semester goes on. But if you work hard and fully focus you will pass. The EC at the end of exams really help!
This professor is amazing. Yes, I agree with other reviews that her tests gets harder as the semester comes near the end, but if you listen to her lectures, and put in the effort then you should do great. And Extra credit opportunities along with exams and practicums helps with grades. Students that dont work hard, you not even trying.
Wow one of the best structured online courses I've ever taken. Very well organized. Appreciate how she teaches us everything we need to know, and we don't have to look into a textbook for every single thing. Love her energy. Lots of material, but she gives small assignments to keep you on track. Responds quickly. Grades quickly. She's the best!
Professor Russell was a real gem. Took her for Winter which was challenging of its own because it is very fast paced. She divided the class into 2 units. Her online structure is amazing and very well organized. She does do proctorial but this session she didnt.
Professor Russel (Cook) is exceptional. Took her for the 5 week summer hybrid. 2 Major canvas unit exams that are non-proctored (1&2) and 2 in-class practicums. Canvas tests are super hard; it was made very hard to prevent cheating. Practicums require the most studying and memorization. She does hand out a lot of extra credit and 2 writing papers.
Most caring and understanding professor I have ever had. Made lectures fun because of her amazing personality and made learning enjoyable and always helped and answered questions. Test and practicum reasonable. Lots and lots of info but she gives you everything you need to study. Her being so awesome made me want to learn.
Gives generous grades for lab, provides extra credit on the first half of the course.. tests gets heavier at the end of the class so make sure u get good grades on the first half.
She is the most amazing professor I have came across in my life. I can't express how amazing she is, very helpful and understanding. STUDY STUDY STUDY, tests do get hard, but put in the work, come to class, and you should be able to pass. She offers extra credit.
The best professor I ever had in my entire life.
AWESOME professor! Honestly shes an easy professor. Everything is neatly organized in Canvas. She had two difficult in-person lab tests, but she has open labs the week of the tests and you can study there. The other two lecture exams plus the final were all based on the modules...super easy just study study study study.
Took this class 3 years ago. Very low standard for Anatomy course. Not sure I got much out of this class. It was lower grade of high school at best. I don't think students get prepared at all. I am in nursing program now and I realized now how awful she was for my education even though I got an A in the course.
She's a very cool professor but you have to study very very hard for this class. Its a lot of self teaching & memorizing. There's a practicum & an exam each semester. There's also open labs to study before the tests. Take lots of pics of the models & STUDY you can't pass without studying. Missing a class is not an option.
She is funny and makes her lectures interesting. I definitely recommend!
She generates a class worth attending. Vibrant, charismatic, engaging. Undoubtedly kind. The class is hard, of course! But she supplies all the tools you need to succeed. A gem. Things to memorize to get ahead of the game: The Bones, Landmarks, and Muscles of the body
Aspiring Nurses, Pre-Physical Therapy students, Pre-Med students, Pre-PA students sign up or waitlist Ms. Cooks class ASAP! Ms. Cook is the mentor and guide you are looking for, especially with a class as dense as Anatomy. She is a gem.
Professor Cook is professional, organized, and punctual. She stays current with technology, the Canvas platform, and recent scientific research. Her use of an online student anatomy program should be a must for all scientific studies!
Best thing about this class was the anatomy education program she had us use (Draw it to Know It) but she was awful at using it herself, doesn't know how to navigate outside Canvas.
Professor Cook, is very passionate about anatomy and cares about her students. Labs are mandatory, try not to miss any and participate to get credit. Very lecture heavy but as long as you understand and put effort into studying you will pass this class. You cannot pass this class if you're not willing to put time and effort.
Truly one of the most remarkable individuals that I have ever had the fortune of learning from. Not only does she have a heart of gold, she's also one of the most enthusiastic and charismatic educators in the world. She utilizes the latest technology in her teaching method and made the daunting task of learning anatomy into an enjoyable experience.
There truly aren't enough kind words to describe how amazing Professor Cook is. She does an amazing job keeping you engaged with her enthusiasm and it makes it so much easier to learn and digest the material. I LOVED her use of 3D tech opposed to using EXTREMELY outdated plastic skeletons. 10/10 would take any class she teaches!!
Highly suggest to practice everyday for 1 hour. I found this course was all about memorization. She encourages you to work in lab with teams and while she does give extra credit the workbook should not be overlooked. If you start strong you will end strong. I truly wish she was teaching physiology!
Before Professor Cook, I found anatomy to be very difficult. I even doubted my ability to learn it. But after taking her course, I excelled at it. I was able to easily digest all her material and thoroughly learned anatomy. She made the class so enjoyable and was very involved with her students. I wish I would've found her sooner.
Best professor I have ever taken. She is truly passionate about the subject and makes it so fun for you to want to learn. Very organized with modules. As long as you stay on top of your work, you should be good.
She is a ten out of ten recommend! She is super cool. I have nothing bad to say about her. She's so awesome that I had to give her a rating here for the first time ever. She makes Anatomy fun! I enjoyed every second of it!
The crown jewel of the anatomy department – literally the only professor who teaches with an online 3-D model you can use at home. It's a game changer! The other professors are dinosaurs whose students run to tutoring in a panic & only can access models M-Th 9-6. Cook is intelligent, caring, gives ex credit, & wants you to succeed. Look no further!
She is amazing and really cares about the subject and her students. However would not recommend this class to anyone that has any responsibilities other than taking this class. There is a ridiculous amount of content to learn and the midterm/ final are basically the entirety of our grade. She is an amazing teacher but this class is extremely hard.
Professor Cook is very fair, organized, and genuinely wants her students to succeed. The class was an accelerated 5-week Anatomy course, so it was challenging and memory-intensive, but her optimized schedule made it manageable. Labs were interesting and hands-on. She's easygoing but sets clear expectations.
Professor Cook's 5 week course was amazing. Students might give her a bad review because they didn't realize the intensity of the course, but it was five weeks and anatomy so of course it's a lot. Don't take her in the summer if you have other priorities but you can easily pass her class if you read the material and have critical thinking skills.
Such a great professor! Took her 5 week summer course and it was definitely a lot of work but doable. She's very caring and easygoing. I would recommend taking this course during the regular period rather than summer if you do not have time to study; but if you study and dedicate time everyday, summer class is totally doable!
literal GEM. the course material is pretty heavy and you will definitely have to put in the time to study! however, she is such a great professor and made this class extremely enjoyable. awesome teaching style and an even better person!
