She is Japanese, so if you have trouble with accents don't take her. Only one essay required all semester. Lots of reading, but not too hard overall.
ONe of the worst teachers at Kennesaw State University....NEVER EVER TAKE THIS TEACHER
She has a thick accent but is not hard to understand.
if you are looking for an easy history class do not take her! Don;t get me wrong.. she's a very nice lady but it is a class you must work at to get an A. theres is no extra credit at all. her tests killed me! take someone else if you can
Very organized and fun class..quizzes are very easy...tests are fair...It is not hard to ace the class if you take good notes and read assigned pages on the textbook
By far the worst class at KSU. She is very nice, but tests are impossible, and all you talk about is Chinese and Japanese Dynasties. Very boring and repitive. Does not curve I had an 79.4 and she would not raise me a .10 of a pt. Accent is very strong!
If you have a brain & use it, you'll do fine. Accent is a barrier, but she's aware of it & makes an extra effort to be understood. Best part of the class was the moron who didn't know the difference between the Ark of the Covenant and Noah's Ark. If you're like that guy, rethink your 5 yr plan.
Lots and lots of notes. Missing one class can throw you off big time. Tests range from medium to hard. Lots of questions are about insignificant details. Didn't mind her accent. Plus she's kinda cute.
First off she is so cute. she has accent but who cares.both class are very easy you know what to do and when to do it. test is easy. if you are a moron.dont go to college. if you say her test is hard maybe you should really think about droping out of school. she covers a lot of stuff but short.nice
Too many notes, too much information for a 1000 level course. Her accent is somewhat hard to follow at times. I took a summer course which makes it even harder to follow for 21/2 hours. I hope there is an easier history teacher out there!
Awesome teacher. Really knows her stuff. This is not an easy class, though. She makes you think!
This is the worst class I have ever had.Teacher very hard to understand, test made absolutely no sense, and she did not seem knowledgable on the subject. No textbook so take good notes if you can understand her.
Her accent makes understanding the class difficult because she speaks and requires notes to follow. She covers and spends a lot of time discussing how wonderful china and japan was in history. She test and quizzes on insignificant terms and simple stuff often from chapters not mentioned in the class. History is easy but she makes it more difficult
Very difficult to understand due to her heavy accent. Her test were fairly hard and the notes were crazy! My hand about fell off@!
This class isn't too hard, as long as you do what she asks. Just DO NOT be late on a quiz or test day, because she won't let you into the room!!!
She is sometimes hard to understand. She wants what she wants!! On test she won't take anything other than what she wants, and that sucks, cause she is not open at all!!! Her test is too much detail!!!!!
Sometimes hard to follow, but makes up for it in willingness to help you get through. Very smart and funny.

This class was the most aweful history class i have ever taken, i liked history until i took this class. She is from Japan and the whole class should have been called Japanese History rather than world civilizations. Her accent is very hard to understand as well.
Very good teacher - funny, helpful. Yes, there is an accent issue but after a day or too you become acclimated if you try.
The accent isn't an issue after about 2 classes, if one tries to understand. As far as "too many dates, too specific," whatever, this is HISTORY, people, not theory ... geez ... reading this list of complaints, one immediately understands that this is a core class and is dominated by freshmen/sophomores ... most of these complaints are just silly.
Accent very annoying. tests are multiple choice, pretty easy. Final not cumulative. She has a sense of humor, but a boring class, no make up quizes, and will lock you out of class if you are late for test.drink coffee and bring a laptop for entertainment, and you should pass with flying colors.
She is okay. There are guest lecturers and the readings help alot, ACTUALLY she says whats in the book! Test are from the book and guest lecturers, but some of the stuff on test seemed unimportant.
If you can get past her accent, then this class is fair enough. I almost broke my neck several times from falling asleep. I sat in class many times and had to go home and re read what she taked about, just to understand. She locks people out of the class if they are late for tests. No discussion room on webct. find another professor unless no choic
GET OVER IT PEOPLE, NOT ALL PROFESSORS ARE FROM THE US!! This is a wonderful teacher and she is excited about the material, don't you all want a teacher who loves what they do? She loves history and loves teaching it. If you copy everything off of the power point, you will get an A!
The accent is only an issue if you're not paying attention. If you're focused you can understand her very well. She is an excellent teacher and very helpful. I would recommend her to anyone.
Accent is not that bad if you pay attention. GO TO CLASS, you will be glad you did at the end of the semester when you see your grade. She does not explain the grades she gives and do not expect her to. Tests can be long with irrelevant questions that are easy to get wrong.
i understand history is hard but this class is dumb. she has a very thick accent and it is hard to understand her, escpecially when you're not paying attention from complete boredom. so so boring. missing class is hard because you take notes everyday. it just sucks. unless you can't help it, get someone else.
She is one of the best professors at KSU! She's nothing but nice, and tests are over her very easy powerpoints...which she posts on webCT as well. She gives study guides for the tests which you can do from the notes, but you need to go to class. She loves history and it shows. I never touched the book, and got an A. take her!
Racel is an excellent professor. She really strives to be respectful to all in the Religions class. Very nice, and very fair grader. Keep up with the reading as she has pop quizzes if she feels people aren't.
Sorry. Put the wrong class in before. And her accent isn't a problem if you are attentive.
She is a very cute little asian lady. she likes to talk and kind of tends to rant but eventually she does get the point across. at first i was worried her accent would make her hard to understand but you kind of get used to it. she is a pretty leniant grader and tests are multiple choice, non cumulative. make sure to study for the map quizzes.
I really like Racel. She is completely straight forward, you know exactly what is expected of you. Go to class and study and you will do fine. She is pretty cooky & funny also.
Worst Profeesor I have ever had in my life WORST. She is knowlegable but you cant undertand a damn word she says. I dont understand why KSU would allow a professor to teach when the students cant understand a thing. I would not recommend anyone to her the only thing i would recommend is firing her cause its a waste of my money to take her
Multiple choice tests in a 3000 level course.. Hell yes! And she's not hard to understand at all. If you like history, you'll do well.
She is very into what she is teaching and you can understand her accent fine after the first day.
Cute lady... Funny accent but really sweet... her tests are easy if you call for an appointment before to review for the exam. She is a great teacher... she gives Primary Sources to study notes from. loves to study ancient egypt! This is all she talks about.
She is a little hard to understand but she is amazing. I went in kind of liking world history, now I've declared my major in it. She is hard to understand but you get used to it. People who get annoyed at it just don't pay attention in class. The Geo. quizzes are really easy if you do the study game. I recommend her to anyone that enjoys history!
She's a bubbly little thing! She's high-paced and energetic. She lectures straight from the book... Power point lectures. 2 tests and 1 paper. Go to class every day and get an A! I did!
Strong accent but u get used to it. VERY ENERGETIC and passionate. goes off tangents sometimes but shes hilarious. TEsts are REally difficult. take lots of notes of what she says. NOT lenient with grade as far as Ex Credi she says "youre in college now get over it". teaches "bell to bell" rarely pauses when speaking. Take her..
Strong Accent. Tests are Really hard unless you make an appointment before tests to review with you--this is really helpful that you must do so you can review one on one the material with her... call her for an appt to review for tests and shell do it... Loves China History and Egypt... Thats all we learned...
She is really adorable and passionate and funny! If you have no problems understanding her, you'll be perfectly fine. Her tests come straight from the lecture powerpoints and are pretty easy. She gives some wiggle-roon as far as attendance and quiz grades, but you should probably miss as little class as possible she goes through information quickly
Good teacher. The accent is easy to understand if you give her a chance. She has a lot to teach so she did not get through all the material by the end of the semester. DON'T BUY THE BOOK. I didn't and we never used it. Test ?s come straight from notes. All mult. choice except for one test that has 1 essay...Make note cards. Learned a lot!
Her passion for history makes the students enjoy learning it. She covers alot of material and is pretty funny. Her class is on the more difficult side so you have to study. Also if your final grade average is an 89.99 she will not round you up to a 90, you are getting a B.
It's easy to tell that Professor Racel truely enjoys teaching History. I highly recommend this professor if you are a history major or if you just have a general love of history. Otherwise...take another teacher. Grades consist of 3 tests (one of which has to have an essay part...your choice though) and 4 geog quizzes. Perfect attendance curve. ^_^
She is a nice lady and you can tell she loves history but i don't recommend this class. The tests are ridiculous and she doesn't give you a real study guide she just outlines the lectures so she pretty much tells you to know everything about what she's told you from all the powerpoints. She gives random pop quizzes and intense geography quizzes
She was always excited to teach the content of our class, and the textbook and primary documents reader we had were so so helpful. Some might find her accent (Japanese) hard to understand, but I loved it. The paper we wrote focused on primary sources, something history profs don't stress enough in lower-level classes; great prof!
professor racel enjoys teaching history. the geography quizzes were easy but the tests are really hard. the study guide is pretty much an outline and so are her notes. class tends to get boring but if you miss a day you missed alot of info
Tests are tough, but fair. Write down everything she says, read the chapters, then study and you too can get an A. Her enthusiasm for history is infectious!
Nice lady and also pretty funny. She is also very passionate about History and is very knowlegable about the subject.Quizzes are easy and test are hard so studyy. She gives you a studyguide for the test but that won't really help.Basically, write down he every word during lectures and you will do fine.I recommend her especialy if your a history major
She was very unorganized with her powerpoints. Most of the time she was unclear and test questions were really difficult. She gives you a quote and you have to name the author, time, and describe what its talking about but yet you had about thirty readings. She was also very disrespectful of the Christian students because of the comments she made.
History has never been my "thing" and I hate memorizing things. But Racel made history class more interesting. Tests were doable. At least she didn't make you memorize the date/year. She is funny too and very energetic.
Mrs. Racel is a wonderful teacher who is passionate about history. She is a funny and adorable asian woman that makes class just a little more exciting. To do well in this class however, you have to study hard and take good notes. Tests are 80% of your grade and can be hard. Notes are based on the lecture. If you do that then you wont have a prob
She is an awesome professor who is passionate about her subject. She does have an accent, but I found her easy to understand and has no problem repeating something if you need her to. She is funny and sweet and compassionate. Her tests are challenging. I would definitely recommend her to history/history ed majors. Attendance is mandatory.
So much reading in this class! And most of it isnt on the test! Boring class, but attending sites were neat. She is very nice and understanding.
Dr. Racel was very unclear with her powerpoints and when receiving the test most would wonder where the questions even came from. She grades papers and does not want to discuss with you why you received the grade. She did however, make a good effort to improve her English.
Dr. Racel is a great professor. Her midterm & final , while multiple choice, are incredibly challenging. However, they don't weigh very heavy on your final grade. Research paper is straight forward and she is more than happy to provide help and guidance. Do the work, show up, make sure she knows you exist, and you are on your way to a good grade!
This is an amazing class, especially if you like history. She's great. She breaks up the powerpoint with videos and documents so class in interesting. She's cute and enthusiastic and the class is fun. Two tests, a paper, and a few quizzes (geography, review). She grades sort of tough, but still so worth it.
Dr. Racel is cool. She is a tough professor, but she is alway there to help. Her exams are tough, they consist of multiple choice and essays. Overall, it was good class, but be ready to work for your grade.
LOVE HER! Her class is tough, but it is an upper level class. She is very helpful though. Put in the effort and you will get a lot from this class. Love that she is excited/knowledgeable about material and love her use of music in the class. Very funny, and adorable. Overall the class is well worth the effort.
She is hard ! quizzes so easy test are so hard! Study guide is just topics not facts and its so worthless. Test require 10 hours of study just to pass. I like the class but tests super super super hard save your GPA don't take
DO NOT TAKE. Save you GPA. She is a TERRIBLE teacher. Her quizzes are easy but tests are extremely hard. She is an unfair grader too. I took notes, recorded the lectures, rewrote notes and read from the book before tests but I still got a C all 3 tests. Her study guides don't help you. I've taken 18 credit hrs every semester and this is my first C.
I have taken over 40 classes in college and never had a teacher as bad as this one. Her speech was barely comprehensible, she read straight from the book or power-point and was basically useless. She knew less about history then most of the students and would be better teaching 3rd grade. Avoid this incompetent mess of a person at all costs!
I had Dr. Racel for the Modern Japan class. I also wanted to day that not all of the lecture material was straightforward. Sometimes there was a language barrier. She really should have been more lenient with grading. Even if you take good notes and have perfect attendance, the Exams can be confusing. Also, the research paper is very important.
It's hard to understand her. Her tests are pretty difficult, and with only 3 exams in the summer semester it was impossible to get an A unless you aced the exams. She's an extremely hard grader on essays as well. Try to take someone else
awful... so confusing and unclear about assignments and what is expected. she is also extremely hard to understand and the rambling does not help... i could barely understand her the whole time. you may be able to do well if this is the ONLY class you're taking. save your GPA. do not take this class!!
Worst professor so far. She essentially puts the textbook on the overhead and reads it, but doesn't teach anything based on her own experience. When she tries to make a point that may change your perspective she is too afraid to contradict what we have been told. Also, not her fault, but her accent is almost unbearable. Lastly, god for bid you have a legit emergency requiring a make up exam she makes it more difficult and time consuming.
Dr. Racel is amazing. She is very funny and interesting! She is hard on exams, but she grades her papers easily.
Worst professor I've had at Kennesaw. Spends almost the whole semester talking about Asian traditions. If you are taking HIST 2206 to learn about world cultures do not take Racel. Essays are graded terribly. She does not speak proper English and it shows when she grades an essay. Other professors are better for HIST 2206.
Dr. Racel is adorable. Her grading system is extremely lenient and as long as one pays attention in class, there is no need for the textbook. Her accent takes a bit of time to get used to, but once you catch on, she's quite funny.
By far the hardest class I took this semester. Great teacher, interesting and she keeps the mood light in class. HOWEVER, if youre looking for an easy A, this isn't the class. Her tests are extremely difficult even if you attend every class and read the book even though it isn't mandatory.
Nice lady, but very difficult class. If you don't go to class you will not do well. Test are difficult and are based on lecture notes. I do not recommend this teacher.
I've had Dr. Racel for two classes now. She is sweet as can be, and is willing to help you if need-be. Yes, she can be hard to understand at times, but her accent is not as difficult as one may think. She's very intelligent, and she requires her students to be critical thinkers, as well. Not an "easy A," but you will definitely learn something.
Professor Racel is VERY enthusiastic but she suffers from a lack of organization and poor communication. A single assignment could have instructions for it spread across 3 different documents you needed to download from her website. Some of these sheets still had the wrong due dates. She expects a lot and is a brutal grader. You will work very hard
Dr. Racel is very knowledgeable in this class. The tests are hard and the papers are intense, but if you work hard you can do well. She will help if you ask for it, so don't be afraid to. She is a good professor and I will take her again given the opportunity.
If that class was not required for my major I would have dropped the class immediately. A complete waste of so much stress and so much time. I sat in the front row and brought coffee every day and still fell asleep. She was unclear and horrible at answering questions during lectures. Tons of assignments that don't help on the tests.
Lectures are all over the place, tests are extremely rough, online readings are sometimes impossible to read, no textbook required for the class but the course is just a glorified world history class. Try to get another professor.
You must come to class everyday, and I recommend participating in class discussion. Her research paper was a breeze, but the midterm and final, especially the final, were brutal. If you want a high grade, you need to know your stuff and take good notes. Avoid her if you have trouble with heavy Japanese accents, as you must understand her lectures.
Sign up for another professor if you can. Accent is impossible to understand at times. Possibly doesn't possess the ability to give you a 100 on any assignment. If I didn't need this I would have dropped this course already. BEWARE!
She's funny and interesting, but can be a little scatter-brained. She does have an accent but you'll get used to it. There are map and online country quizzes but they are easy, so getting an A on those are very possible. Her tests can be a bit tough, but just go to class and take good notes. Relax, she's good.
Absolutely awful. You won't be able to understand her. Her tests are so hard.
If you can avoid taking her, definitely avoid it. This class is by no means impossible but the tests are hard. The best way to get an A in this class is to attend every class, bring your laptop and just type everything she says. You don't need to book at all, its a waste of your money, but if you skip class you will fail the class
Three things due each week and she grades tough. There were two tests a mid term and a final and they were so hard. Expected to remember quotes from the Bible or Torah or other holy books and be able to tell her exactly what theyre from. Test were recorded through video and lock down browser. multiple questions were random and no way to study
Studying abroad, I spent every day with her for a month. She definitely makes you work for your grade; I'd say if you're putting forth effort then you can expect a B unless you go above and beyond with your efforts for an A. She taught me a LOT of stuff, though. As someone interested in history, I'd take her again. I really came to respect her.
Dr. Racel is great!! I took her online OGT class and learned a lot! She is a tough grader, but she explains clearly what her expectations are so that you can meet them if you put effort in. Study hard! Take good notes because all of the information you will be tested on is mentioned in the lectures, which she recorded for the online class.
Professor Masako knows a lot about her field and is passionate about history. I enjoyed her as a professor, and the class in general, but the class was very difficult for me. I had to take notes on everything she said, because if I missed one thing it was on the tests. The tests are incredibly hard but she is open to answering any question you have
I am currently taking her class. It is not easy, but if you take you're time and put in the effort you will be fine. The exams are difficult, but the other assignments are fine as long as you like to write and read. As a history minor it is a cool class class overall!
Professor Racel really enjoyed teaching history which I appreciated, but it was difficult to follow her lectures. Her powerpoints would jump around from 1 topic to the next and then back again, so my notes were very scrambled. Her teaching style did not work for me, and I found her tests very difficult.
She was impossible to understand and got off on a tangent way too often. Threw assignments in to our schedule in clusters when the tests were coming up. Would just decide we needed extra work around the time of our papers and final. She told us that she's preparing us for grad school, which she took a poll and one person out of 25 wanted to.
To put it bluntly, she a TERRIBLE teacher! This "professor" rambles on and on during her supposed lectures. She reads from the book often, and has a habit of not being straightforward in her lectures. She is terrible when it comes to time management and is unorganized. I have had many other professors, but she is the worst professor I have ever had
By FAR the WORST professor I have ever had. She is moderately hard to understand and her lectures have nothing to do with the tests. All of the assignments are pointless because if you do them, they are no help for the tests either.
Easily the worst professor I've ever had. She constantly goes off on ridiculous tangents and rarely finds her way back to the lecture. And it's not like one can make up for that by reading the textbook because she refuses to reference it. To top it off, she gives geography quizzes without even mentioning the geography of whichever region we're on.
Do NOT take this professor online. When I would email her with questions she would reply with the most passive aggressive and demeaning answers. I was the 12th person to drop the class within the first month. She takes off an insane amount of points if you don't watch her lecture videos, and even though I watched them ALL she said I didn't.
Dr. Racel is certainly knowledgeable about the topics she teaches, however she is very unclear about her standards. Her video lectures are distracting due to the birds she keeps as pets. The assignments are based on readings and lectures she presents each week. I reference both in my answers and the best grade I've received is a C.
AVOID! Between the heavy accent and the power points, which weren't uploaded (only a super condensed version i.e. 1 slide for a whole ch.), she was absolutely god awful. She goes by Kennesaw's 3 strike attendance policy which means you miss 3 days then you fail automatically. There is also a research paper for a historical figure due mid semester.
On the first test, the average score was in the 60's. I went to the professor's office hours and she insisted no one studied and didn't help. My class almost went to the dean. Her 2nd and 3rd tests weren't much better. I also have a problem with the organization of her class and the fact that she doesn't post her powerpoints or any study guides.
whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. Her test are hard and she doesn't grade papers if you miss 6 classes. I thought this class was going to be a breeze but i'm sorry i am a senior and by far this class is the most strict, demanding and hardest general education class i have taken in my 4 years.
Over 6 Absences, You Fail. Powerpoints Only In Class Not Available Online. Tests Have Nothing To Do With Her Lectures. Heavy Accent. Highly Recommend You Chose Another Professor :)
Hardest class Ive ever been in and the most Ive ever studied. The tests have nothing to do with the material she covers. Very heavy accent, does not post her powerpoints, goes on random tangents that have nothing to do with the tests, and does not make any effort to help her students succeed. I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO AVOID HAVING HER!!
Not recommended. Annoying birds in the background of her lectures. Mispelled words, incorrect punctuation and grammar usage in her PowerPoints make for a really "fun" experience. Run Forest Run! Run like hell.
General education classes should not be as hard as this one was. Missed only 2 classes early in the semester, highest grade I got on a test was a 64(and that was after studying EVERYTHING 4 days leading to the test). Not much help with answering questions.
Literally the WORST professor ever. I could say some really mean things about her, but my biggest advice is to say away. I am an A student and this class was almost impossible for me. She barely speaks english,*THE TESTS ARE ALL LOCK DOWN BROWSER W/ A WEBCAM*. The tests are impossible to take. Don't bother studying either bc the tests are IMPOSSIBL
SUPER lecture-heavy. Has a difficult to understand accent, which doesn't help. Attendance is mandatory and for a grade. If you don't show up, you WILL fail. She will not grade your assignments if you miss a certain amount of class. Doable if you work hard, but I would not recommend her.
Do. Not. Take. Her. !!!STAY AWAY!!! Worst teacher Ive ever had!!! I would go out of my way to avoid having this professor.
What was supposed to be an easy gen-ed requirement turned into my lowest grade in the semester. EXTREMELY tough grader, if your work is not perfect, it wont get a good grade. The tests are extremely detail oriented so make sure you write absolutely everything down.
I took her online class and oh my god did i regret it. The work load for each week is a ton, and it isn't very clear what exactly you need to pay attention to for the quizes. Then she grades all discussion posts and papers so hard. I emailed her and she isn't reasonable at all. This class is so much unnessecary work, like it's a 2000's level....
I highly recommend that you DO NOT take this professor. She goes over notes and PowerPoint in class that is supposed to relate to the test but the test have nothing to do with the notes. Extremely hard to pass her tests.
This professor does not hold your hand. In fact, she drops you off at the fire station. Her lecture videos do not help at all she discusses around 10% of what you actually need to know for the exams. The rest you should just already know apparently. This is the only class I have EVER failed and the hardest class I have ever taken.
Truly awful. For your own sake, DO NOT take her. Her power-points are useless as they don't involve what is actually on the tests (of which there aren't any effective study guides for), and her required written assignments are convoluted messes. Dr. Racel takes what would be an otherwise easy-A introduction class and makes it a 3000 level course.
The tests are online & absolutely BRUTAL. 4 tests (many people in the class didn't get above a 50 on ANY test), one research project (she got them three weeks before the end of the semester, didn't have them graded by the Final exam), & a final essay (also not graded before the final exam). Please, take legit ANYBODY else, this class will end you.
Professor Racel was an okay professor. The class consisted of lectures everyday which made the class less interesting. Every quiz/ test is online through the lockdown browser. Test were difficult if you didnt take detailed notes. She makes her tests more based off what she says not want she puts on the powerpoint. For essays shes a tough grader.
TERRIBLE!!!! DO NOT TAKE!! stay away.
This teacher is a horrible teacher. I failed this class and its suppose to be a grade boosting gen ed course. This was the hardest class I have taken in a year and a half at college. She formats her class so you fail. She said that my final grade of a 50 was a good grade and that it was higher than average. She saw nothing wrong with this....
She said herself she teaches and grades as if her students are historian majors even though its just an intro level class, unreasonably low grades, expects papers to be as good as professionals would write, isnt afraid to fail everyone on assignments, honestly the worst professor Ive had.
She makes this course way more difficult than it needs to be considering its a gen ed course. If you miss more than 6 classe she fails you. Gives difficult geography quizes. Test questions are very specific so if you dont write down literally everything she says, you wont pass. Doesnt post powerpoints on d2l. even if she did they wouldnt help.
She doesn't seem like a bad person, but should not be a teacher! She doesn't teach everything on exams. She is not afraid to fail everyone and acts like everything she teaches is incredibly easy. I had perfect attendance and took notes of everything she said, but could barely pass her exams (with days of studying). Don't take her!
Her lectures are based on what the test format will be. No textbook is required just pay attention and take detailed notes. A b is possible but an A will require a lot of work.
I am a history education major, so this class' material was not difficult, but the materials on graded assignments were absolutely ridiculous. You would learn of broad topics, and be tested over specific details. Very difficult to get any responses back on email or in person. "Just do it better" was a very constant response and feedback is nil.
She was quite possibly the worst Prof ive ever had. You'll take several quizzes off the bat, all easy. But, her tests are another story. She talks a whole lot about things that wont be on the tests. Her tests will hurt you deeply. Her grading is VERY test heavy so it is painful. She knows everything, so she expects you to as well. DO NOT TAKE HER.
One of the absolute WORST professors that I've ever taken. I had to withdrawal from her class because i didn't want to risk failing. Nothing on her power points match the actual test and shes very lecture heavy. Her quizzes are very easy but if that the only thing you can pass, then drop her class IMMEDIATELY.
One of the worst professors Ive ever had. Gives very vague instructions on assignments that heavily affect your grade, and gets annoyed if you have any questions. Puts down students for asking questions that seem obvious to her but not others. Doesnt give feedback so that you can make improvements on future assignments. Dont take this professor.
This is a lecture heavy course, I'd say take notes but just try and study your notes and see how well you do. I took notes and actively paid attention per class session. Before each test, I would diligently study my notes and other resources and still do poorly. If you can, choose another professor!!!
I've never been so negatively moved by a teacher to leave a review before. If you're trying to get an A for the course, you won't get it here. Straight up. You can work your tail off taking notes but it won't matter because the test questions cover topics that weren't in the lecture, and the lecture is all the information you get. No textbook.
Professor Racel is the worst teacher I've had by far. She teaches the class from powerpoints which are hard to follow and filled with fragments. She is not caring or understanding of student's circumstances and continues to grade harshly without leniency. Her class should not be as difficult as she makes it. FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR GPA, don't take her
She expects you to know everything she teaches like the back of your hand and grades like we do. Terrible at communicating until last minute. Doesnt seem to care about the students. Worst experience Ive had with a professor. Do not take her course.
Do not take this teacher unless you have no other choice. She makes World History harder than it needs to be. Literally all of these ratings are bad and the ratings that are good have a lot of dislikes on them. That means something.
By far the WORST professor I've ever had. Never have I been so motivated to write a negative review. She has no problem failing an entire class. She will blame failing test averages on the students for having terrible note taking skills. History is supposed to be about capturing a main idea however, not with the 70+ question tests that are given.
Never have I wanted to drop a class so badly. She has the audacity to blame an entire class failing on OUR COLLECTIVE FAILURE to take good enough notes. She doesn't provide study guides (which would be nice since she has 60+ questions per her 3 tests) and treats us like we should already know everything every subject. Just an overall bad teacher.
This is a lecture class thatll test your listening, recall, and attention. Though we are on zoom, its still a lecture + note heavy class. She moved through the PowerPoints by date, region, and period often stopping to go into more detail about whatever the topic may be. So when she rambles: listen. I think shes well versed in world history.
I bombed the first test that she gave but I managed to rebound pretty smoothly. The key to passing her class is combining what she says with her powerpoint. Do not, I repeat do not rely only on the powerpoint. She does not post her lectures after class but if you have a valid reason she will allow access to you. I would choose her again.
I didn't really enjoy this professor, she was hard to understand. She didn't allow us acess to the power-points. She wasn't really understanding either.
This was by far the worst professor of my freshman year. Her lectures are very heavy and if you miss a class, go ahead and make a buddy in class because she will not give you access to PowerPoints or notes. She also will you give quizzes on topics you dont in class, she expects you to learn then on your own. I had to drop the class.
I liked her but the class was difficult. You have to take notes everyday, and the slides are not available on d2L. For the exams you have only your notes to study. So you cant really skip or youll miss material. Some days I fell asleep from boredom.
I didn't find the course extremely difficult but I didn't prepare to actually study. Lots of dates to remember in this class but if you actually study and memorize the info you shouldn't have issues passing. Lectures were sometimes rambly but information is mixed into the lecture that in't on the powerpoint.
I can see where the other reviews are coming from if you aren't a history major and get her, shes tough. She is fair when it comes to grading papers though and her lectures are solid and shes was very nice and happy to answer any questions. Maybe just skip her freshman level classes especially if you won't put in the extra work theres easier alts.
Wors professor I ever had, no offense I can't understand the lectures. Th test are hard for no reason. PLEASE FOR YOURSELF DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. YOU WILL REGRET IT. She also teaches till the end of every class.
Do not take this professor no matter what, the worst teacher I have ever been with, in my 20 years alive. Her lectures are a joke, you can barely understand her with her thick accent, and the tests include questions that were never in the notes.
Though it may be hard to understand her due to her accent, she gives such in depth lectures. She really does enjoy history and it shows. The class is pretty easy and the tests are too if you pay attention in class. She does a few discussion posts and like 9 geography quizzes as well as an exam every 2 units and an essay final.
The class was easy but lots of work. Quizes every week in the beginning. Tests are hard. Have to listen to lectures and take notes. She has a heavy accent but is very enthusiastic about teaching. There is a final and a final essay. Have to put in lots of work outside of class. All tests and quizzes are lockdown browser and camera recorded.
She has a poor accent and constantly fluctuates her voice. The entire class is note based and she cant even form an organized lecture/powerpoint. Gives assignments with little to no guidelines with a lot of work for little points. She's one of those teachers that thinks everyone should be obsessed with their class. Just avoid
As a person she is incredibly kind, polite, and has a clear passion behind what she does. The issue is, the exams are tough and there are very few of them, which means theres little chance for recovery if you fail one. You'll pass if you prioritize this class over all others and can understand her thick accent. If you don't want to do those, avoid.
I am taking her now for the Spring 2023 semester, she loves to talk and has a passion behind her teaching but half the time you won't know what she's talking about between her accent and how much she loves going off topic. Attendance is mandatory and her PowerPoints consist of bullet points. No textbooks is provided.
She will read you an absurd amount of PowerPoint slides and expect you to remember every single bit of it over 3 weeks or so until the test. This is coupled with her thick accent. She uses face-cam required Lockdown Browser for exams. Tests are unreasonably hard and there are so few of them that if you mess up on one, you've messed up the class.
Impossible tests, the things on it are the things that she verbally says in class not the stuff on the horribly made slideshows. It is hard to take notes because her slideshows make no sense, and she also talks so much that you don't actually know what she is saying because at some point it just jumbles all together. Don't take if you want to pass
She doesn't actually teach material. It's mostly Wikipedia articles, Many long primary sources to read and discuss, most of which are borderline unreadable due to the ancient japanese nature of texts. Her tests are ridiculously hard for what she teaches in the class, multiple choice, essay, and quote analysis in both tests.
Notes and tests barely match up. She speaks very fast, but is not good with time. She never knew when our tests were and they were never on the syllabus, anytime someone asked she would say "maybe this day". She does not upload notes online so if you miss a class you either need to ask someone for their notes or you're stuck with nothing.
graded only on a few big assignments, midterm/final is a long multiple choice test and then a separate long answer form. no study guides, lectures are hard to follow along with
Nice and pleasant woman but lectures are unorganized and barley helpful for the exams which are most of the final grade. Will talk about one thing for way too long, but mention something once. The things she brushes over or things that she didn't even cover are often on the exams. Powerpoints are just pictures and studying for exams is impossible.
All I can literally say is stay awayyyy. I have always been a straight A student, and I just barely managed to pass this class. Do NOTTTT take.
She doesn't know how to use D2L her tests make you submit answers one at a time and if you get something wrong you can't go back which would normally be fine but there are 50 QUESTIONS She goes off on unrelated tangents in class and then gets angry at us if we don't remember the smallest details she mentions once she is an extremely harsh grader
She does not post the same lecture slides as she uses in class. I missed a couple days and asked for the correct slideshows and she did not help me at all. I had to get a lot of outside help. Would not recommend because she is not helpful and her lectures are very disorganized as well.
The professor is engaging but lectures can be disorganized. Exams focus heavily on material not emphasized in class. Attendance is mandatory, and notes are crucial since slides aren't provided. unstuck AI helped me prepare for this class.
Don't take the class with this professor. Doesnt provide any study guides or the correct presentation slides used during lectures. The test questions are not even remotely similar to what are written on the slides. Also the test are webcam required, lockdown browser required, and they are due at the most random times ever. Save yourself.
Do not take this professor! She lectures the entire class and does not provide the taught PowerPoint to you. She is very strict on grading and doesn't give any guidance for the tests. Also, no study guides. She says you only need a note card, when there's actually tons of power point notes that need to be noted. The notes are not detailed.
do NOT take this class
Do not take this professor for this class. She did not use a textbook and was so far behind. This class in World after 1945, we didn't reach 1945 until WEEK FOUR. Her PowerPoints can barely be considered that and barely hold any information we need for exams. She would not give a syllabus nor an assignment timeline.
She's nice however when it comes to her class many things could be improved. Her tests are lockdown browser and you cannot look over your work after you answer a question. She doesn't give out study guides. Her notes are very unintelligable if you dont understand the context of what she writes.
As long as you show up to class, pay attention, and complete the assignments, the class is pretty easy. She cares about the students actually learning something and does her best to make lectures interesting. Her study guides are sparse but have key insights in each unit.
Dr. Racel is a great professor. As long as you pay attention and take notes you will be just fine, and that's coming from a student who is pretty lazy in first place. The people in these reviews would have done well if they actually tried, a bad grade in this class is the student's fault. She's an easy grader as long as you follow the rubric.
People who give this woman good reviews must be bots or herself. If you don't make this class your top priority and have a life outside of it, then good luck. I wouldn't take her if you had a choice between other professors to take. The midterm/final is atrocious.
She provides a heavy load of materials only for the exam to have questions based on some vague information she may have mentioned verbally once in class and the exams take up a lot of the grade's percentage so it's difficult to do well on this course. An elective course should not be this pretentious and difficult.
Do not take a class with the professor! Im an A and B achieving student and I have never been so close to failing. She does nothing to prepare you for her exams. They are very difficult and weighed a heavy part of the grade compared to minimal assignments she provides for credit. Her assignments are also told to use less than a week in advance.
Professor Racel does NOT convey material well. Everyday is a lecture of a PowerPoint that she does not share with you. Each slide she goes off on a tangent about the topic and THAT is what she will expect you to remember for the exams. The exams are hyper specific on the topics covered so if you are not an expert on the topic, you will struggle.
I have never been in such a dysfunctional class. From the beginning we were off schedule and she did nothing to fix it until the last week. The lectures rarely covered the topics that were important for our tests and despite multiple people asking, she refused to post slides for us to study with. Do not take this professor unless necessary.
Grades assignments lightly as long as you provide proof of reading, but the tests are brutally specific. Only 2 tests which are midterm and final, 24hr to complete, online, webcam on. Classes are easy to get distracted since its powerpoints everyday. Do not be late/absent because they remove the ability to complete the course if missing 6+ days.
