His tests are pretty easy and are directly from his notes. You don't need to buy the book for this class. Save your money. Good class
No Comments
Tests are straight from his lectures, no need for the book. Take good notes and you will do fine.
Boring class, but all the test stuff is from what he puts on the board. TAKE NOTES!!! If you like Econ its cool. If you dont, its a long semester but not a killer. take notes!
Taken Spring 03Prety laid back teacher, but really boring if you're just taking it for GE. He talks with a really monotone voice in my opinion, might fall asleep. If you have a questions he will answer it,always available to helpduring office hours. Tests canbe really tricky, because the wording is tricky. Read the q a few times before you answer it.
sometimes his exam are confusing but you'll be fine if u always listen to his lecture and always keep track of your notes. easy to get an A .. so take his class
He is a great professor, he teach as a high school teacher.
His class is fun! make sure u read the book and take good notes. good memorization is all u need... maybe dun need the book if u remeber everything... toward the end is kinda hard since he goes hella fast at the end and really slow in the begining
He is a very organized teacher. He gives great notes - so copy them down because they are all helpful for your exams. He makes class and the subject interesting. No homework, except read to prepare for lecture and exams. Very fairly easy and straight forward exams.
DO NOT buy ANY books, go to ALL classes, copy all his notes, memorize/study and you can get a guaranteed A in his class. I wasnt interested in econ before I signed up, but Suzuki helped to make it bearable
This class is pretty easy, just go and write down all the notes on board and memorize them all, don't really need the book. On his tests, he allows one sheet of notes, which is very helpful. Sometimes the questions are hard. but most are pretty easy and common sense.
DONT BUY BOOKS JUST GO EVERYDAY AND U WILL PASS WIT AN A. IM A LIVING PROOF
Very good teacher, he gives you time to do all the work I just wish I would have known not to but the econ book and saved myself $200, but hey you live and you learn.
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! Just go to class and write down the notes that he gives you and you will be fine. He is the greatest guy ever and is really smart about anything. He's kinda of funny too.
He takes notes on the board with lectures. Don't need the book. Allows notes on midterms. Gives out a study guide ahead of time before midterms and reviews them before the midterm on the next class meeting. No homework. Funny. Relates to current issues.
Suzuki is a pretty cool teacher. Funny and somewhat interesting. His lectures are full of notes, pretty clear, sometimes dry n boring but hey thats econ. No hw, quiz, test. 3midterms and a final. He drops the lowest midterm. 2 special assignments. He lets u use 1 page notes on midterms, take advantage of it cuz u'll need it. His midterms are tricky
Hes a really cool teacher. Really relaxed and knows the subject well. His entire class is lecture and it gets very boring, but i think thats just econ in general. I didnt read the book at all, just took the notes and used them on the exams. He uses the same pool of questions as previous semesters as well. Good class if you can stay awake.

This professors really good. Lectures everyday. Three midterms spread throughout the semester and one final. Closed notes but you can use a cheat sheat. There's a study guide given before hand. Suzuki's class system makes a lot of sence and he's nice and funny too. Go everyday and take notes, you'll walk out with an A.
Took macro to fullfill a requirement. I didn't buy a book after reading the other reviews here. Got a decent grade, probably would have got an A if i looked over notes more. The attendance wasn't mandatory, a lot of people showed up just for the exam for my semester. Good teacher, not boring at all. I recommend him fasho.
Lectures Clearly, test are a little tricky, no text book needed just go to class everday and put all notes and review on the cheat sheet, should be an easy A, just go to class
Took Micro with him right after his Macro class. Clear notes &lectures. Internet Assignment #2 is a little tricky, but as long as you do both, you should be okay. Gets to know the students a little. Really funny. Don't buy the book; use it on reserve at the library.
The best econ instructor at SMCCD and arguably the most handsome.
Suzuki is the greatest. He's funny too I took him for macro but i'm also takin him for micro. TAKE HIM he writes down all the notes on the board that will pretty much be on the test. as long as u put down all the notes he writes on the board on your studysheet front and back you'll do fine.
Suzuki is great, he has really clear notes with great examples. Tries to make jokes sometimes but usually related to econ. The tests come from concepts that he goes over in lecture so try to attend every class. Allows a cheat sheet for tests.
He's a great teacher what I'm looking for.
Always lookin forward to going to class. He doesn't give any HW. A few midterms throughout the semester.
Great prof. Don't miss the class, easy "A". Very helpful. Barely used the text book (only a few study guide questions from it).
GREAT TEACHER! Actually interesting to listen to. Don't buy the book cuz everything's written on the board. You have to be stupid or lazy to fail. Let's put it this way: A = 85%, B = 70%, C = 55%. All you need is a 55% to pass the class! He even drops the lowest test score!
easy b. love this topic. gives you practice tests where a couple questions will show up on the real exam
great teacher. nice guy. he really tries to help you by letting you have a whole page, front & back, of notes during exams. i recommend reading the book, esp if you don't really get economics. go to class, take good notes, study from them & you should definitely pass!
great teacher. i got b's in both of his classes. grades are based on all tests with one test thrown out. i hate multiple choice test, but i still got b's. ill take it. just attend class take the notes and youll pass
I really enjoyed the Econ course I took with him in Fall 2008. I'm now an Econ major at UC Berkeley and I owe him for really helping me learn basic Microeconomics well. If you want to excel in his class, just write down everything he puts on the whiteboard verbatim, then recopy it onto the notepage he gives you for tests. Nice guy, I recommend him.
Very easy class, very nice teacher. If you show up everyday and take notes you can easily get an A. I have yet to open my textbook but have almost perfect scores on all the tests so far. No hw, page of notes, drops lowest score, and the test are right out of the lectures, I don't know how you can't get an A in this class.
i took him for macro and micro econ, BEST TEACHER EVER. teachers should learn how to teach from him. u get one cheat sheet of notes for the exam which isn't even hard. he's VERY fair and VERY cool, BEST TEACHER AT SKYLINE!!!!
If you take notes, you're set. Overall I think he's a great teacher. He takes the time to explain and uses enough real life experiences. Definitely recommend.
Out of all the teachers i had in skyline, this is by far the best teacher i had. Suzuki is very fair. His teaching methods are what i look for in teachers. He drops lowest grade from your exams. Writes notes on the board so you can visualize (unlike other teachers who uses a screen). Very organized. Take this class. Very friendly.
Very good teacher, writes all the notes that you need on the board. Doesn't use the book very much... not necessary to buy. Very engaging and up to date.
I took the honors macroeconomics course, and it was fairly difficult. No homework or classword, so his grades depend on 4 midterms and a final, but he drops your lowest midterm. I never opened the book because his lectures are his tests, so if you pay attention to the lectures you will do well on the test. I got a B, but thats without studying.
So. ****ing. Easy. Just take the notes down verbatim from the chalkboard. No homework, projects, or anything. 4 "midterms" and one final - lowest midterm gets dropped. Each test worth max of 250, and your final grade is out of 1000 (851 being the lowest for an A). Tests are only ~25 questions, though, so make sure to get them right! USE CHEAT SHEET
Overall nice guy with a golden personality. I do not even have to pay a single attention, but just be there and keep my pen moving. Day before midterm, i just copy all my notes i've written onto cheat sheet. come test day, i use a lil brain work with my cheat sheet and write answers down on test. EASY. during class, turn off brain & give it rest
Got a B.. Grades hard, 10pts per multiple choice question. But if you put in more effort, you'll get an A.
Suzuki is the man! great class, just show up everyday and take the notes down, use those notes on the test and presto you should be fine. He is helpful and encourages questions. I hated econ before this class but he was a great teacher.
I've taken Macro and Mirco with Suzuki. Excellent teacher. His class is very straight forward, you don't waste time on BS assignments. Everyday is a lecture, very easy to follow and he's organized. Just take good notes and study the notes before the exam. He allows a cheat sheet on the exams which is great to help you study.
Grades hard. 4 midterms and a final exam. Drop the lowest of the midterms. I failed the class last semester. He is not easy as everyone thinks he is.
Talks for 3 hours straight from his notes. Even with reading the book, taping his lectures and taking notes, I had a hard time learning and applying the topics. So many people had low scores on exams. He def needs to change his teaching approach! Wont email lecture notes if u missed class, but you can read them if you go to his office? OK?
More of a lecturer and less of a teacher. Does not give out assignments, only exams. This is more like an independent self study course. Listen to lecture, figure it out on your own, take the exam. Fun! :/
Suzuki is a great guy and really knows his Economics, but to be honest this class simply is listening to his life story while trying to learn economics. He doesn't teach, he talks at you. If that is how you prefer to learn, you will like the class. Otherwise its dreadful.
He is a good teacher and very helpful if you don't understand things. However his exams are really difficult you need to put a lot of effort to get a decent grade. I would advise you to get the book to help understand things more clearly.
Book required, and yes, it's helpful to actually use it. Others make his class seem "so easy", but you do need to try in order to pass his tests. The only way to fail this class is if you don't try to study or take notes and refer to them often before a test. Class is sometimes slow, but it's economics, what do you expect? He's nice&helpful though.
He has a great personality but the class is based on test.. He drops the lowest test rather you need them points to pass or not.. He drops it anyway.. His grading scale is kind of funny to get an D you need 401 PTS but to get an C you need 560.. His class is one a point scale.. If not good with test don't take his class.. Cuz he don't care to helpU
His Class is really really hard. It takes you forever to Get an A.
Where do I even begin. If your fear is a teacher that grades you for every word and period you put down, this is the guy. Absolutely terrible. If you want an A, don't take him. He will have you turn in assignments and take off points for everything. Took him for Macro/Micro. Stay away.
Easy B but not an easy A. Can't understand the lectures. the tests are tricky even though you can have one page of cheat sheet coz they are different from the notes. No homework, so you must do well in your tests. He looks tired every Monday. Don't think he has so much passion in teaching
HE's actually not that bad. You take 4 exams he drops the lowest exam.. the final counts no matter what so it comes out to 5 exams.. can use sheet of notes i prefer graphing paper it fits more on front and back. final exam you can have two sheets of notes front and back and exams are only 22 question with like two non multiple multiple choice quest
easy class. 561 to pass each exam is worth 250 points 22 questions on exams 10 pts each the remainder is non multple choice usually a graphing question in 100 he doesnt make you solve to different things on the same graph but in 102 he does No HW Dont have to buy the book cuz he only test you on what he puts on the board I Promise trust your notes.
He is super friendly, and has great energy. He's definitely more than willing to help. HOWEVER unless you know econ you will NOT get an A or B...his tests are very hard, because, his class only is lectures, no practice problems to practice the graphing and mathematical parts to the test and no additional resources to study from.
Fall '14. took him for econ 102 as well. he lays out how to pass the class clearly on the syllabus. no hw, which can be a good thing as the subject is dry. 5 exams, but drops the one with lowest score. textbook didn't help at all, so you'd be wise to rely on notes for studying for exams. want a B or A? understand and memorize what you write.
5 Exams, drops lowest one, it can't be the final exam. Exam grades your final grade. 1 page of notes, front & back for the exams. Take good notes in class & understand what you're writting. FORGET BUYING THE BOOK. You'll probably get a clearer understanding by googling the concepts. Ask and he'll help you. If you don't show.. Good luck! LOL
Took Suzuki for Econ 100 and Econ 102 and it was the exact same thing which is good because you know what is coming. Dont buy the book you won't need it for Econ 100 but for 102 you will need it slightly (borrow a friends. No Homework everything is notes so understand and write everything down. Clear grading - ask questions for clarification.
He goes kind of fast during lecture, but if you can keep up, you'll do great. You skip class and still pass. I only showed up for the midterm review, (4 of them) and the final review and got a high B.
Class is not that difficult. He allows one sheet of notes on every test. His test are basically based off of his lectures so it is very important to go to class and take good notes. The book is not required. Overall, great teacher and class.
The class is based off of 3 midterms and the final. His exams are based off the lectures so it is very important to go to class. Take good notes, make a study sheet and study that and you should be fine. Does not give homework too.
Honesty, I hate econ class, I used to fail my tests during my high school years. But this class is pretty easy, as long as u go to class and take good notes! The thing is HE DOES NOT GIVE HOMEWORK AT ALL!!!
Suzuki has a very loose grading scale (85-100 is an A, 75-84 is a B, 65-74 is a C, 50-64 is a D, I believe). HOWEVER, his exams are tougher than they seem, even though you are allowed a cheat sheet to use during 5 exams, they are tricky sometimes, theyre all about 250 points, multiple choice will make or break your grade, 10 pts each, with 22 of em
Professor Suzuki has heavy yet informative lectures. If you take decent notes in class, you'll be sure to pass his midterms. The course is solely test based, so make sure you do the reviews because they're super helpful and make sure you utilize your ability to bring in a full page of notes (front and back). Loved this class.
no hw, all exam material on lectures/no book. take good notes. 5 exams, lowest score dropped, excluding final. focus on the multiple choice, since it's very heavy on exams (22 questions worth 10 pts each) while entire short answer portion is only 3 questions worth 30 points, with partial credit given. great for visual-auditory learners.
He is well organized when he lectures on the topic we are covering for class. In the syllabus, it has information of what the schedule will be like for the semester, such as midterms and finals. When theres an exam coming up, dont rely on the textbook, just rely on his lectures instead and youll do good in the exams.
Professor Suzuki is a very nice instructor who can teach the lectures well. He never gives extra credit during class, but instead, he curves the grading scale which is 85% of your grade is an A. He drops a lowest test score and final is mandatory to take it in class because if you don't take the final, your grade will be going down low as possible.
Suzuki is great teacher, he's hilarious and really knows his stuff. Attendance isn't mandatory, but like all classes, you have to be there in order to learn. Overall, he is a great teacher, and he is always there for you when you have questions. For the tests, he let's you use a page of notes, which is great. You really learn in his class.
I got a B and I never used the book, I just payed close attention during class lectures and took good notes during his mid-term review days. He gives no homework, just tests so make sure to fill up your double-sided 1 sheet of notes with as much information as you can and you should be fine!
Easily one of the best professors Ive ever had. Hes very knowledgeable about his crafts. Hes gives out great reviews before the tests to study from. Hes very funny and great to talk to outside of class. Ive made him laugh a few times. Pay attention in class and take great notes. Ask questions and hell answer them thoroughly. Dont miss class!
Professor Suzuki cracks a lot of jokes in class. He's a very good lecturer for a topic like Economics. Class is based solely on tests and if you're confused, he's always accessible at office hours. Allows cheat sheets for tests, but still need to understand the material to fully get an A
Loved this class! Pretty easy, just don't skip class and make sure to take good notes. He's also really good about letting you take tests late, no extra credit though so be prepared! There is no homework only 4 midterms and final but he tells you all the material that is going to be on the test and allows a page of notes! Very nice guy, funny too!
I took him for ECON100 and Suzuki as a professor himself, he is funny and very informative on the topics we talked about on every class meeting. His grading criteria is curved and is on a point system. 3 midterms (1 midterm will be dropped with the lowest score) and 1 final exam.
Rented the book but didn't use it. Lectures are HEAVY and he tends to be late. His lectures have minimal examples and he's condescending with a corny sense of humor, borderline inappropriate. Lecture info consist of TOO many graphs, the material is extremely different from exams. No homework and no classwork - grade based on exams only.
He gives good lectures. Your grade is pretty much based on your test scores, so relax.
Suzuki's lectures and exam reviews are the only thing you need to pay attention to. No need to buy the textbook, but he wants you to buy a "reader" for the class. I found that the reader had almost exactly the same information as his lectures. You get a sheet of paper note sheet for each exam. He shows up late to class often. Final is cumulative.
I have never Failed a class until this one. I read online he had good ratings but little Did I know how stupid his grading was. To sum up his class, it's just a lot of notes and 3 Test & a Final! So if you fail one or do bad on 2 good luck because it just gets harder and harder. And get this, when I asked him for help he told me to just Drop.
Kind prof, but doesn't take attitude. Show respect and get respect. He's very much a socialist, but didn't really see any favoritism towards it when he lectured different economic ideas through the course. I got a C- because I didn't study enough, but still use what I learned in my daily life constantly so props there. No real issue with him.
Taking him during quarantine. Just wanted to let y'all know his exam mc questions are 10 points each, so if you get even a few wrong you're kinda screwed for a B or C. Exams are out of 200 points, 18 mc and 3 frq. They're not hard at all, it's based off of the notes, but for some questions you'll often be stuck between two answers.
Good luck. I have never gotten a B and now will receive my first. His homework is timed 30 minutes worth 25p with 2 MC questions at 10p each, and 1 short answer, if you get one question wrong, youre screwed. Tests are average at best but they are worth 80% of your grade. 1000 points offered 250 per midterm (2 counted) + 300p final + 200p homework.
Not too hard, but not too easy. If you don't ask questions, self-study, and attend zooms, the class will be extra hard! Lectures/modules are straightforward and the hardest concepts to grasp are the graphs. Point based grades (NOT weighted) & 85.1% is an A. If you practice & grasp the concepts, the tests won't feel extra hard, and you'll get an A!
Very fun professor. To get an A, make sure you listen to his lectures and submit assignments on time.
Goes off topic. Skip Class? You won't pass! Had an 8am class w/ this prof. & skipped a handful of classes since it was early & had work, etc. Guess I missed a ton of critical info. Even tho I would get notes from my classmates, it wasnt good enough for reference on tests. No I wasnt skipping class every single week. Grade based on 4 quizzes &1 test
Had Suzuki online 2021 so it was still pandemic. I switched majors (mech e to econ) but thankfully his course didnt drive me away. It's important to participate during his lectures as it makes it easier to pay attention. Read the content page and formulate questions before the respective lecture. The grading system is pretty lenient
Def recommend taking him for 102 if you had him for 100. Class format for 102 is similar to 100, and I believe having that familiarity is a huge advantage. He said most people who do well in macro do worse in micro and the reverse as well, but if you put in good effort you'll be fine. Ask for real life examples to help you understand micro topics.
Class materials were excellent; the examples updated for current events (pandemic, Russian oil squeeze, etc.) made it much easier to contextualize scenarios. He gives great feedback on assignments and will reply to questions promptly. All the stuff you need to learn are posted in a short article format; the textbook is almost completely irrelevant.
Your grade is very very reliant on tests. He issued about 5 total exams and they were all weighed very heavily
